Grumpy Sliver and Slice don't like visitors. They are perfectly content, alone, in their dreary Mousery . . . until four shivering mousekins appear at the door. Sliver and Slice agree to let them in from the snowy cold for just one night. But after a dose of warm fires and lullabies, will they really send the adorable mousekins away?
Award-winning author Charlotte Pomerantz has created a heartwarming story about two mice who learn that sharing makes things twice as nice.
Beautiful hardcover edition
First edition. No DJ, pages are clean and bright. Binding is tight. Vgf.

me: I am a disgusting being of pure malice. I was put here to suffer and upset others by simply existing. The decay of all the atoms that make me up would greatly benefit society and the world as a whole me after showering and exfoliating: I am a soft princess who brings joy and happiness into all the lives I've touched. I am loved. I am a big soft plushie who will one day be added to someone's hoard

I used to work in a rattery/mousery?? Where I basically cared for feeder mice and rats, counted the population each week, etc (everything was very humane of course, but as a mouse and rat lover I had to leave) but I'm curious after reading ur post, we had racks of mice populations and they never fought or were particularly aggressive with each other? but I'm wondering if that's just because they were culled before getting too big, so aggression/territory disputes didn't have a chance to happen?
yeah the fights only start to happen once the males reach maturity, so if you remove them before then everything can be okay and totally redwall

michaelphone (blind cat) is really fortunate to live where he does, because we are a mousery, and there are literally a hundred mice he can just hang out and listen to all day
right now he's sitting politely next to my bins of pet mice, listening to them scramble, being very enriched and, for once, not running around the room, up the curtains, and unplugging my computer in his boredom

I keep seeing your posts about mice and I was wondering, what enclosure size and group size do you recommend for beginners? I've been really interested in keeping mice for a while and your posts have reignited that for me. (Also if you have any tips on where to get mice I'd love to hear them)
I'm VERY excited to tell you that someone recently found what I would consider to be an ideal cage minus one issue that's easily fixed!
This 23g Oiibo cage!
It's the perfect size for a group of mice, front-opening with a screen top that also opens, and wire cage sides but only halfway up, which provides airflow while reducing the amount of bedding they're capable of kicking out. It's also FULLY disassemble-able which means even the glass can slide out of the metal, and you can thoroughly actually clean this sucker properly if you need to. The only problem is that the bar spacing is 1/2" instead of 1/4", so you'd need to apply some 1/4" hardware cloth over the bars. It's also all glass and metal, which means it's chew proof unlike bin caging. I want these so badly, but at $200 a pop, they ARE a bit out of my current price range for justifying on mice that already have cages. But if I was buying fresh, I'd get this.
That being said any 20g long will work fine, or even a 10g aquarium. You can also make your own cage out of a plastic storage tote and some hardware cloth/zip ties, though if you're just starting out, go with a 20g. They're common, fairly cheap, and easy to clean, plus they easily hold 6-8 mice but 4 can still be fairly comfy in it without feeling stressed about the lack of population.
If you go with 10g, 2-4 mice, never below 2 for any enclosure because they always need a buddy. Ideally, you would get at least a trio. This isn't because the group dynamic is any different, but because someone always leaves first. When you lose your first mouse, you don't want the one you have left to be alone while you look for a replacement, and having 3 to start out with solves that issue.
To find a breeder, it depends on where you are. If you're in the USA, that's easy; you can look up the FMBA or ARFMA breeder listings, and locate breeders there, or hop on facebook and look for mouseries or ratteries that have mice, and message them. Sometimes craigslist also has listings, but you're taking your life in your hands doing that. Same with going to reptile expos... you MIGHT get a good, solid pet-type mouse, or you might get someone who's just picking for fancy mouse colors on their skittish little feeders.

I went to go pick up some mice today to freshen up some of my genetics. Everyone is getting a little too related so it's time to retire some oldies and add some new blood.
While I was out there I got talked into adopting a trio of male rats. They're in quarantine right now but once they have a chance to settle I'll get pics of everyone. One of the rats sounds like he's got a URI so I may have to go get him some meds. They're nervous but gentle and non aggressive. They're going to live in the mousery- but well away from the mice.
