endgame Thots spoilers ahead...................................
.......................
..............................
so honestly i think the quote that best sums this up is thor’s quote about stopping trying to be what’s expected and just being who he is. i’m aware that characters are written and ultimately the writer controls what happens BUT i think that perfectly sums up the difference between character arcs & in character actions.
everyone is complaining about thor and steves arcs and it’s like..... arc wise yes thor shouldve been king & steve shouldve acclimated to the future. but arcs are ALSO written and most of the time characters are forced into situations and it’s a completed character arc bc it rhymes/it’s poetic/it completes a cycle. BUT that is not the same thing as a character doing something in character. steve WANTED to go back and live with peggy. thor WANTED to explore the universe away from duty. maybe they didnt complete specific arcs that everyone expected but... they’re being who they are. in contrast to that you have tony who WANTED to stay with his family but chose to sacrifice himself & this completed his character arc beautifully. but those two kinds of ends for characters are not at odds with each other and one is not automatically bad writing bc the other one exists.
that being SAID here’s some more general thoughts
thors appearance was p bad im gonna be honest that was like. the one uncomfortable thing to watch
i literally sat there bawling and hiccuping when tony died like..... im an iron man stan now and im so fucking sad what the FUCK
the whole theater lost their collective minds when carol showed up & then at the end when t’challa showed up which just shows you where everyone is
but the MOST applause was when steve used the hammer. my hands hurt from clapping. everyone was screaming.
whats the deal w peter??? like he went back to school & in homecoming all his old classmates are there like did his entire class get snapped fhasdfsdf
a bitch was crying about scott and cassie what the fuck
MORGAN????????????
FUCKING MORGAN OH MY GOD THAT POOR SWEET BABY. SHE WAS SO CUTE AND ILOVE HE R RR R AND TONY IS SUCH A GOOD DAD? HELLO?
the scene where all the mcu ladies go to beat up thanos healed my gay heart and idc if its pandering i want it
HOWEVER the promised gay rep was THE stupidest thing ive ever seen in my life like i get that disney sucks but dont promise smth amazing and build it up and then have it be some random fucking man at a group therapy session
loki................... he just straight up left hfasdofsfd is he okay out there
VALKYRIE GOD I AM. SO FUCKING GAY YOU GUYS. HER HAIR? MAAM???
also im a bit confused on the time travel thing? they said it wouldnt affect their present if they went to the past & established that its different timelines. but then.... how did steve end up old in the future? i mean this isnt a major gripe though ANY show dealing w time travel literally always has time travel plot holes so if i see u guys saying this means its bad writing im gonna lose my mind. time travel is impossible for a reason (unless its to the future but even then its bc of time dilation) and its gonna end up w plot holes when ur trying to write a show w it
am i the only one that got the “blue meanie” reference? tony said it about nebula and my obscure knowledge from being a misguided 12 year old obsessed w the beatles. came in handy. blue meanies were the villains in the beatles movie yellow submarine. theyre these motherfuckers.
I LOVE YOU 3000...............
i never cared abt clint or natasha but wow that shit hurted
literally the entire funeral scene was the worst thing that ever happened to me i sat there sobbing so hard my throat started hurting
i am iron man...................... u sure fucking are man :(
SAM. GOT. THE SHIELD. SAMS CAPTAIN AMERICA BITCHES WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUUUCK HELLO????? IM SO HAPPY. I WAS HOPING FOR THAT
bucky looked pretty for his 3 seconds of screentime
im as much of a st*cky fan as anyone else but did you guys truly think disney was gonna do that like....... if u think the movie sucks and is bad writing bc ur ship isnt canon u r gonna have a real bad time watching just about anything. i get being upset abt queerbaiting bc there was a bit of that wrt cast interviews and writer interviews but in the actual movies like...... it wasnt gonna happen idk what u guys expected :/
also fanfiction still exists u cant let canon stop u from having ur own imagination like u can literally write WHATEVER u want. half the fandom still writes 2012 avengers fics where they all live in the same tower. its fine. its okay. the actual movies arent the be all end all u can choose ur own adventure
HE WENT FOR THE HEAD
tony & peter hugging was so much for me and im so fucking sad right now yall. and peter telling him goodbye. ouch! he looked up to tony even if that was misguided at times
also i didnt care abt tony and pepper either and here i am. caring. endgame truly just made me Care.
gamora is BACK & her being her past self and missing is just fodder for quill/gamora fanfiction i cannot WAIT to see the next guardians movie and watch them fall in love again.
i love nebula so goddamn much what the fuck. daughter.
i personally dont care for steve/peggy and in my own personal headcanons and preferences im gonna do away w that whole...... thing bc i dont personally like it but it still isnt really bad writing imo & guys hes been in love w peggy from the start that cant be shocking now
SAMBUCKY RISE...........
on your LEFT everyone also lost their minds on that one i think thats when they started losing it and then when tchalla showed up the screams went even louder and i think everyone was just screaming for 2 minutes
i know i already said it but I LOVE YOU 3000. FUUUUCK ME
pepper as iron man was sooo fucking good she better take up the mantle like ooooh fuck. oh my god. that was amazing and i love her sm
okay okay i think that sums it up im done now but anyway endgame is good & most of the ppl complaining are just the type of ppl that like to Hate Absolutely Everything bc its edgy and cool to be like that. go see it. form ur own opinion. dont feel obligated to follow the masses (at least on tumblr. everyone else seems to love it lmfao but theyre not pressured by this website to act like everything is Bad and Terrible) & be bitter about it. like what you like and take out what you dont like it is That Simple. its a good movie

Am I the only MCU fan who, when deciding whether I like a character, asks not “How morally pure is this character?” but instead “How interesting is this character’s story?”
Because if we are just all going to stan or hate based on how pure each character is then we could just go through the movies one fucking time, add up the good each character did, send a memo about who you are and are not allowed to like, and end the discourse.
Like, I’m sorry. But the rumors are true.
Steve Rogers is an annoying self righteous shit who demands moral perfection from others but allows himself his own irrational biases (for example, Bucky Barnes).
Tony Stark is an oblivious privileged sad boy who makes everything about his own guilt.
Loki is an edgy emo wannabe tyrant who does awful things for emotional motives.
Wanda Maximoff made some extremely shitty decisions. (I can’t say more about her character but that’s because of thin writing rather than the character herself.)
And I love all of them. I could say good things about all of them as well. But y’all already know all the good stuff, if you’re ever going to.
I truly love them all. I love them so much. How boring would the MCU be if all my fictional faves were unproblematic? Why do some people feel the need to only stan pure characters?
And – a question that bothers me even more – why do people feel like they need to constantly prove that their fave is the most morally pure of all the faves?
You do not need to do that. Stan who you stan. Let others stan who they stan. These are fictional characters. We invented fiction to explain experience, not just to create pure aspirational heroes. The only conception of fiction that allows only for pure aspirational heroes I can think of is certain kinds of propaganda.
Like if the real debate we’re meant to be having is, “Where is the line across which you cannot like a fictional character because the things they’ve done are too bad?” why aren’t we ever actually having that debate? The answer is that it’s because, instead, we’re too busy holding characters up and saying, “Look, mine’s purer than yours is”!
It’s almost like we all have this unconscious, unexamined, unacknowledged belief that you OUGHT to only like pure characters, and so we retroactively try to make sure that are fave is pure.
I’m sorry. Your fave is not pure. And if they are, congratulations. You won a contest no one is willing to acknowledge they’re in, and that serves no function I can understand.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Heyy so i've been a long time fan of your writing and aus and a sort of long time follower of your blog. I just wanted to ask your opinions on infinity war? Because even as a major marvel fan i felt like this movie had a lot of lost potential and in the end wasn't as good as fan reactions have made it out to be? Also while i do love tony what made me slightly annoyed by him in this film is his lack of ability to think clearly and just panicking anytime asked for an opinion or plan?(1/2)
(2/2) and i just felt like it’s wrong the way peter has to fear disappointing him at every turn and just that kind of pressure being placed on him? so yeah just looking for some friendly opinions if this is rude just ignore it. Thank you! (oh also i think i missed when steve called tony the best defender? i cannot for the life of me remember where he says it? thank you for any help!!)
ajsdhjsdsfj anon!!
xDD okay hi, um, idk why youre looking to me for counsel lol im not qualified enough for this, im just a marvel geek but hmm lets see. im one of those fans that really enjoyed the movie?? oop. sorry yeah, i really really loved it for what it was, at least i can tell you why;
1) the villain. marvel has a way of getting me invested in their villains or at least getting me to like them even when theyre hurting the ppl i love. i enjoyed thanos a lot–he was an actual threat (terrifying grapes be terrifying), he wasnt even really pursuing the avengers (only fought them because they were stopping him from achieving his goal) and also i love villains that are morally grey/dark-grey. as far as thanos was concerned he was doing the right thing and so he continued with his plans, these pesky mortals can just *smacks them down*
2) the fighting. you can tell when The Russo Brothers directed a film because the action scenes are always on point *flash back to the fights in winter soldier + civil war* so for the fights alone i was really pumped for that. and they delivered, as tense as i was during most of the fight scenes, i still enjoyed them (esp when people teamed up with their powers/put them to good use: e.g. peter + strange’s portals)
3) the character interactions. i loved the interactions they managed to put in despite the whole Thanos Be Among Us looming threat thing, they checked most of my boxes for those anyway (i.e tony + strange, starlord being starlord, drax being drax, rocket + bucky’s arm, etc.) these little things were what i was actually excited for and i got them so why would i be displeased?? lol
4) flow and character control. with a bunch of characters running around in one film from different universes its easy to become a train wreck and while they were even set in the different countries and planets the story and plot flowed into each other smoothly and it didnt feel like they just shoved a bunch of random supers into one movie just because they could, but have no idea what to do with them (no shade justice league, no shade). Also bearing in mind that these superheroes come from different mcu series with different directors yet they still stayed in character + within their abilities was really relieving to see, it didnt feel like different directors manipulating the characters
5) SOME. OF. THOSE. SCENES. just the scenes in the movie itself made the movie epic for me?? like when we first experience the flying donut and the whole city is in mayhem (i got chills) or when thor crashed into the gotg’s ship or the fight with peter/tony/gotg/thanos, like. there wasnt a time in the movie at all where i was bored or uninterested in the ‘narrative’ i was like yes please give me more.
6) when i was waiting to see iw i didnt even study plot i was just theorizing over who would die and if thanos tortured loki into the Invasion of New York lol so honestly anything that would have happened in this movie would have blown my mind, but even then if it was crap i would have called it out (*cough* thor dark world, avengers age of ultron)
7) its just the first part. i feel like this movie is nothing compared to the epicness thatll happen in part 2 “first we’ll break your hearts, then we’ll blow your mind”. this was like set up to the Real battle you know? and i can safely say none of us are ready, but bring it 2019.
honestly, i enjoyed this movie a lot. i loved the plot, the action, the interactions, the pain and the suffering lol just all of it was phenomenal for me, but theres always difference in opinions and thats okay too but for me this was by a long shot nothing at all like a bad movie; i laughed, i cried, i was in suspense, and i want to see it again honestly thats two thumbs up for me.
(also i didnt find tony was panicking like all the time? the dude straight up was like chillin with pepper–okay bruce came out of a portal, weird–theres a wizard *follows him into portal*–ughhh call steve?? i hate all of you–chaos in the city, lemme just help this lady up real quick–dammit squidward, hulks not working so imma just *nanotech*–wow im trapped on this ship and probably gonna die so okay guys heres the plan, oh wait peter has a better one lemme hear it *actually listens to peter AND strange eventually too like, he was pretty chill to me lmao)
and peter doesnt fear disappointing tony in a severe way; because he doesnt even listen to him half the time LOL yeah tonys his idol, he wanted to make a good impression in homecoming (you wouldnt want to disappoint anyone you love/respect) but like generally peter and tony are cool–their relationship/interactions arent powered by peter wanting to be ‘good enough’ lol he IS good enough, just that sometimes IronDad wants him to be safe and Peter’s like hell naw, imma fight this baddie real quick and you’ll just have to get over the fact that i snuck on board the ship lmao. its a very do first, ask later thing that all teens do–i dig it.
But yeah like i said, maybe the fandom got something from the show you didnt, maybe we saw everything in a different way idk my dude–we just came to have a good time and cry and stuff, because i guess thats what marvel fans do lol. hope that helped you with your own feelings about it ?? at the end of the day, its just a movie (HAHA yeah right) and im not a critic or an expert, just a marvel fan sobbing in misery and anguish–but like,,,the good kind.
;)

Jessie, I never asked you or I saw something like this on your blog but what do you think about the GotG movies? You like them? I understand that they also changed the whole story with respect to comics
god why is this so long!!! i love the sound of my own voice
im… bitter about the guardians movies. like when u sit down and watch them in the theatre you laugh and you thoroughly enjoy them but when you think about them theyre fucking awful??? i thoroughly enjoyed the first one, there was some super emotional elements to it despite the fact that it wasnt anything like the comics, but you kind of expect that from the mcu thats just how it is. but really the pre pubescent teenage boy jokes, the ‘oh i actually forgot you were here because women leave my mind as a concept after ive fucked them’ the whore line and the general acting like peter quill is the best shit since jesus christ….. should have been a warning???
the best thing about comics peter is that he’s so fucking normal like his dad’s king of a planet but he still flies around in his little ship in his ugly ass outfit and he’s not this fame hungry womanizer. he’s one of the most genuine and least annoying men in comics (or he was before they made the comics like the movies) and gunn (whedon for people who think their fav characters are super niche when they arent) made him into every single action movie male lead that gets a lot of girls without being likeable enough to genuinely warrant their attention and the one who leads and carries the team when literally EVERY FUCKING MEMBER of the mcu guardians are more skilled and smarter than him. then as for the rest of them….
why is mcu drax a fucking dumbass. why is gamora so watered down and why on god’s earth is she being even SLIGHTLY nice to mcu peter. gamora/peter is… bad. they left out some of the best members of the team to give diet peter more of a spotlight???? adam whom? richard where? phyla and heather?? talking raccoons are fine but gays in space…… a reach.
the second movie was objectively pretty horrible??? and not even just w the different origin for peter. they used ayesha and wasted it. they used ego and wasted him on being obsessed with peter. further reminded everyone that a woman’s death was the catalyst for the entire series because the mcu loves dead women. sure they TRIED with mantis but even that??? diet. mantis for babies. her personality was self deprecating and people telling her she was ugly like does anyone know what tact is??? hello??? mr gunn????
it all relies on trashy, cheap humor, innuendo, men with nothing beyond basic skills and personality, predictable plots, changing comics facts that have worked for years and women with more skill than the entire team being put down. and then forcing the comics to change as a result. so…… an avengers movie in space??that being said they do the job for like… fun Dont Think About It entertainment like it does what it sets out to do. its a big budget action movie not crime and punishment so me being a bitch about it is kind of inconsequential lmao my main takeaway would just be enjoy them but dont think about it. i miss the guardians so much i havent seen then in like 10 literal years where is my team
