Un char allemand Panzer VI Tigre I du 101e bataillon SS de chars lourds de la 1ère Division SS Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler fait une halte dans la commune de Morgny sur la route pour rejoindre le front de la bataille de Normandie – Morgny – Eure – France – juin 1944

La 1ère Division Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler est retirée du front de l'Est en avril 1944 après la bataille de Jitomir alors qu'elle est totalement décimée (tous ses chars lourds sont détruits et ses meilleurs équipages perdus) et est envoyée en Belgique dans le but d'y être reconstituée. Elle fut ensuite basée pour partie au nord de la Seine à Beauvais avant de faire route vers la Normandie en vue de repousser les Alliés à la mer. Après une route soumise aux attaques incessantes des aviations anglaises et américaines, la 1ère Division prend part à l'opération Lüttich avec Mortain comme objectif et se retrouve totalement détruite dans la poche de Falaise.
