I fully believe Bart Allen should be an autistic character because the way he's written and treated by people around him lines up so well with a lot of autistic experiences.

Pre-Orders for "Relay Race: A Flash Zine" open in a few days, so you should go follow @flashfamevents to not miss out on that. Here's a little sneak peak at one of the two pieces I did for the zine.

the more I learn about the Flashfam from you, the more I think it would make a really interesting horror comic if only DC were brave enough to go through with it
I think if this announcement of a new writer had happened when the current writer had finished his run, I would feel differently about it.
Because, yeah, I would genuinely like to see this kinda stuff explored. The Flash mythos is insane and it's pretty dark at times.
It seems like the new writer will dip into that a little bit, which is great, but I'm not really sold on the idea of horror for horrors sake. I'm super into the idea of using horror to flesh out the lore and see how that impacts the characters but just random horror? I'm just not into it.
I don't know. It'll really depend on what the plot is. If it's just throwing Wally into random spooky situations then I'm 'meh'.
If it's Wally confronting his inhumanity and the eldritch being that is the speedforce? I'm here for it.
But again, I'm not into horror for horror's sake. So this'll hinge on the plot for me.

Sunday, September 1st - People of Manchester, Alabama & The Ravers // Nightmares // Accidental Kink Discovery
Purpose?
Continuing to celebrate the BartKon Renaissance in the modern era. Since the ship has historically been a rarepair since its conception in the 1990's, this fanweek acts as both a way to celebrate the BartKon narrative in DC Comics, as well as engage new fans in our small yet mighty collective.
Why should we participate in this?
Because you like BartKon. Because you saw fanfiction and fanart and shitposts, and decided you wanted to see what's poppin' in the BartKonosphere. All creators are welcome. Our romcom lovers, the darkfic connoisseurs, and of course, our smut specialists.
So how does it work?
The release date for fanworks is from Monday, the 26th of August through Sunday, the 1st of September, 2024.
You have four months to write, draw, and create fanworks. On top of fanfiction and fanart, we also encourage meta, essays, ship manifestos, playlists, and poetry.
This is also an opportunity for new fans to engage with an old ship with a robust body of work, hence why this fanweek is dedicated only to BartKon depicted in DC Comics from 1994-2024. This is not a YJ-centric week, nor it is a BartKon+third week, nor is it a my-ship-is-better-than-your-ship week. Please be courteous and treat each other with respect when engaging with fanworks and their creators. If you misbehave, I will be cursing you with ten thousand years of bad luck on top of car/train/transportation trouble every day for the rest of your life.
BartKon of ANY comic book universe is acceptable. If you want to spend the entire fanweek exploring Luthor-El and Bart because you love horrific love, then be my guest! If you want a crazed version of Bart to kidnap Kon from Gemworld, go for it! Let that imagination run WILD!!!
Both safe and not-safe-for-tunglr dot hell tropes are welcome. Just make sure that you post any Mature content on a landing page that doesn't restrict Mature content (like AO3). I don’t want anyone getting their blog banned. We cannot defeat our capitalist overlords, but we can definitely work around them.
This fanweek will not have a dedicated blog. These prompts are free for anyone to use. Because it is a non-traditional, non-monetized, and free-to-opt-in casual event, there will be no mods but moi, no advertising of paid services, and no ratings or participant restrictions. I will open a collection on AO3 in August for anyone who wants their work collated for this event.
In order to ensure that both creators and the audience are making informed decisions about what they engage with, all creators are encouraged to include triggers and any other squick warnings.
Please utilize the read-more function for fanworks that are longer than 250 words. We're tryna read yer stories, not get spammed with a wall of text. Please Be Courteous.
And last but not least - if you are engaging with any of the fanworks, reblog, reblog, reblog! Share the work with your followers. Send all the love to the creators for crafting their masterpieces!!
What can I contribute?
Fanart (standalones, comic strips, etc.), fanfiction (one-shots, multichapter, etc.), fanmixes, gifsets, graphics, meme collections, fanvids, ship essays and meta, songifics, playlists, poetry, whatever your heart desires! Go wild!!!
Can I create/write not-safe-for-tunglr dot hell content?
Yes!!! All creators are encouraged to include triggers warnings, sub-genre specifications, and other warnings in their posts. I will not discourage you from writing your 16k Bart Goes Insane Over Kon fic, but please... Be Courteous and tag your fanworks appropriately so people can make an informed decision about what they're comfortable with engaging with.
What does (X) prompt mean?
Each day has three prompts!! You can either pick a prompt OR you can combine prompts in different ways. Although the prompts range from The Basics, to Things That Frighten The Barts and Kons, and end with They're Fucking Nasty in Cissie's Basement Because They Can't Afford a Motel, I challenge you to let your imagination take you where you want to go with each prompt!! If you want to explore all three in the same fanwork, then be my guest!! I will not stop you :'>
Mainstream Canon, Elsewords, and AU content is acceptable! Just make sure to stay within the comicsverse. We have SO MUCH BARTKON MADNESS IN THE COMICS, SO PLAY AROUND WITH OUR BEAUTIFUL CANON!!! Creativity is key! Have fun!!!
Can I crackship/multiship/harem/OT3/polyam the characters?
No. It's literally BartKon Week, Heart & Bones Edition. There's like six active fans left on this bitch of an earth. Don't do this to me :'<
Does this have a tag?
During release week, use the general “bartkon” and "konbart" tags to share your work with the wider BartKon fandom on tunglr. You can use whatever other tags you fancy. The best way to share, however, is to directly @ me so that I may reblog it.
I didn’t read a damn thing before this, Ava.
TL;DR: Nearly four months until the fanweek!!! For all fanwork creators out there, now’s the time to start thinking about what prompts you want to utilize for your creations. There are no creative restrictions, but I do ask that you follow these posting tips:
All fanfiction should be under a read-more.
Not-safe-for-tunglr fanwork should be LINKED to whatever landing site the content is being hosted on (Twitter, AO3, etc). This includes both fanfiction and fanart. I don’t want your blog getting flagged bc tunglr hates gay people.
Provide content warnings for all triggers, squicks, and sub-genres. Unfortunately, in my ten odd years away from DC Comics, the fandom's seen a resurgence in puritanical behavior and tons of censorship and self-censorship. Please list content warnings on your work but do not be discouraged in sharing your work. If a fancop gets on your ass, block them. Please block as MANY as you can. They're like pests, they're always gonna be there, but their influence can be diminished by staunch blocking and reporting.
You can participate as much as you want!! Maybe you only wanna create for one day? Cool! Maybe you’re an overachieving corporate clown insomniac like myself, and wanna create for every day of the week? Go for it!!!
The most important thing is to have fun :)
Closing Remarks
Like all my other events I host, this event, too, is entirely selfish. I've loved BartKon since I was a child when I was first introduced to it in the form of Bart/Clark on Smallville. Although I only recently came back to reading DC's mainline comics, BartKon still holds a special place in my heart even after all these years, and the few who still create and engage in their fanworks inspired me to host a little something-something for our small community.
Take your time, look through the prompts, and get your creative juices flowing! I will be sending out reminders until the go-live date.
For the people who showed interest during the initial interest check, I hope you're able to participate. To the people who hate me, your mom's a hoe. Thank you.

i'm so new to comics so do you have any arrowfam and green lantern recommendations? you seem like an expert so i thought i'd ask! thank you!!
i’m very flattered you think i’m an expert 😭 luckily i’ve answered this before so i have reading lists for you readily available!
this is the reading list i made for the arrowfam. i kinda separated it into individual characters so you can choose which ones to read based on who you wanna read more about. there’s also flashfam recommendations in there so you can read about them too if you’d like!
this is the reading list i made for green lantern comics. be warned that i’m not as well versed in gl comics and there’s a lot more lore when it comes to these funky little green guys so it’s much more of a process.
happy reading!

Chapter One: We Were Six
We were six years old when Bart nearly died. Six. He was in the hospital for four days. It was the longest we’d ever been apart. I might’ve lost my mind if Owen hadn’t been there. I still feel like that sometimes when we’re apart… Like he’ll die and leave me missing the other piece of me. Bart’s never been careful, and I guess that’s why I’m sitting here writing all this. Someone has to write Bart’s story, and it should be me. Maybe it’ll help me be less afraid of losing him. Maybe it’ll make him more careful.
Okay. How do I start? Let’s try this:
We’re mirror-image twins. An extremely rare occurrence among twins. He was right-handed, and I was left. He had a birthmark on the left side of his chest at the bottom of his ribcage. I had the same birthmark on the right. Bart had a crooked grin where his lips curled up toward the right side of his face, and my grin curled up toward the left side. We did everything together, but we couldn’t be more different. I was shy, boring, and prone to emotional outbursts, while Bart was outgoing, odd, and unruffled. I wanted to be him sometimes. Absorb the best parts of him and walk around smiling his smile and laughing his laugh. But that’s beside the point. We’re mirror-image twins… And no one knows my twin better than I do. That’s why I know he’s not hallucinating. So don’t assume I’m writing this about my poor sick brother. I’m writing about the tragedy of strange gifts.
Bart was sick with pneumonia when we were six years old, and I was sure he’d die. I could feel it. It felt like the moment before you pass out, and your heart flutters and your head goes all fuzzy. I remember gripping the hospital bed's railing as the doctors tried to separate us. I couldn’t leave his side. The monitor beeped, alerting the nurses to his low oxygen level, and his eyes rolled back. I was twinless for eighty-five seconds. Eighty-five agonozing seconds. My body went cold, and Owen dragged me out of the room, kicking and screaming, but I couldn’t hear myself.
Then Grandpa Barry came out, and he rubbed my back. “It’s okay. Bart’s okay… They’ve got him back. He needs to rest, but he’ll be better once they stabilize him,” Grandpa Barry reassured me. He got us a pizza, and we ate in the parking lot that night because I refused to leave the hospital. Bart slept in a medically-induced coma for two days until the doctors said my brother could breathe without assistance, and I visited him on the third day. He sipped warm apple juice through a straw, and Mom held the cup.
None of us spoke. The room was eerily silent as we waited for Bart to speak. “Don’t go,” Bart rasped as he stared straight ahead. None of us moved. It was like he saw straight through us.
“Who’re you talking to, Bubba?” Dad asked.
“My friend… The lady,” Bart whispered, “She’s right there.”
Mom smiled and exhaled gently. “Oh, is she your age?” Mom questioned.
“No. My friend’s almost a grownup… Like Wally… Do you know her, Wally?” Bart asked. Wally knit his brows together and shook his head.
“Is she cute?” Wally asked. I couldn’t speak. They were all making jokes, and Bart was serious. I think he knew they didnt believe him.
“She’s not laughing,” Bart muttered. I climbed into bed with him and laid my head on his shoulder.
“Bart? Do you want me to stay?” I asked. I wanted him to ask me, but I knew he wouldn’t. I wanted him to tell me he needed me, but he didn’t speak. He linked pinkies with me. That gesture meant everything to me. It was our I love you. It was our Never leave me.
It was the first time he mentioned his friend, but it wouldn’t be the last. To be honest, I was so preoccupied with being jealous of her that I never once doubted her existence. Bart didn’t get released from the hospital until the end of the week, but no one told me why he couldn’t come home. Not the real reason anyway. I was much older when Grandpa told me Bart had a brain examination. I felt terrible for all the years I joked about him getting his head checked.
Grandpa stayed home with Owen and me, playing games with us, while Mom, Dad, and Grandma stayed with Bart. We sat on the floor, gluing jigsaw puzzles with wood glue and small wooden boards. The jigsaws taught me a lesson. You start with the edges to see the picture. That was how people had to see Bart. Once you got Bart’s outer pieces, you could see him for what he was. And that’s how I managed to make sense of Bart’s gift my whole life.
Everyone thought he came back wrong, but no one would have known this was his gift all along. Even when the hospital discharged him, Bart didn’t get to come straight home. He got to stay with Uncle Max and Aunt Helen. Mom said he needed the extra attention and the wide-open space. I cried constantly during that time.
It wasn't until I stopped eating that they brought him home. I never had the words to say what I wanted from my parents, and it frustrated me to no end. Owen tried to understand, but no one knew the bond I had with Bart. No one could possibly understand how I felt. Not even Dad.
I had to be there when we picked him up at the airport. His eyes never fixed themselves on me. He always looked elsewhere. I wanted him to see me. Run to me. I wanted him to show signs that he loved me like I loved him. "Helen, she is real! You can't see her, but she's there! And she's not-!" I touched his hand.
"I missed you," I whispered, "Could you-?" I couldn't ask him for a hug. I was so terrified he'd say no.
"Let's go play," Bart replied angrily as he grabbed my hand. He led me away from the adults and toward the treehouse Grandpa built. We climbed up the ladder and shut the door. "They want to make her go away… I like her." He muttered something after that, but I couldn't understand it. To anyone else he would've seemed crazy, but I couldn't see him like that. It seemed strange to me that the adults were so frightened of Bart's friend. He liked her and they wanted her to go away. It didn't make any sense.
"Bart? Are you angry?" I asked. Bart looked away from me and nodded at the window before cradling my cheek and kissing my forehead. It was such a tender and compassionate gesture. Completely out of Bart's character.
That's how I knew she wasn't imaginary. I smiled our crooked grin and threw myself into his arms. "I can't see her, but I know she's there," I thought. I wanted to say it aloud, but I couldn't.

Dad: "...You know more about comics than I do these days. Well, at least when it comes to Thanagar, the Flashfam, and the Batfam."
Me: "Well, I'd say 'the Titans' more than 'the Batfam', really."
Dad: "But there aren't any Thanagarians in the Titans, are there?"
Me: *deep inhale*

This is probably gonna sound like a dumb question (and I’m sorry in advance) but I literally know the bare minimum about the Flashfam and their lore, so here we go. You’ve talked before about Kon being Bart’s “Lightning Rod” and from my understanding, it’s more or less a soulmate. Can you tell me more about that?
Hello and apologies for taking so long to get on this one.
A "lightning rod" when it comes to Flash Lore is basically someone who prevents a Speedster from becoming one with the speedforce, or acts as an anchor to find their way back when otherwise lost in speed related... debacles. Like a bolt of lightning to a metal pole they are attracted to them. They are people of whom a speedster has an emotional bond with, romantically, platonically or even antagonistically.
The comics naturally focus more on those that share a romantic bond with a speedster, but there is evidence to support that any strong bond can make a lightning rod regardless of the type of bond they have.
Jay's lightning rod is his sweet Joan of whom being his lightning rod had her own aging 'slowed' to match his (it's a little more complicated than that but for simplicity that is what is going on).
For Barry, Iris is his lightning rod which he was able to use on several occasions to pull himself out of the time stream and back to his own time.
Wally's legendary bond with Linda as a lightning rod is blatant as she helped pull him from the speedforce after he had already merged with it.
There are other instances of Iris and Linda both being lightning rods where not only do they help their speedsters manage their own powers, but by being lightning rods it helps the speedster keep them safe and prevent their own deaths or grievous harm, or in Jay's case extend Joan's life.
The tell-tale sign of a lightning rod for a speedster is of course a romantic bond, or a persistent attraction bringing the two together.
The comics will also blatantly tell you who a lightning rod is eventually using those words, where by then they get... bonus features (like Joan having her aging impacted, Linda getting powers etc).
For Bart we don't have the comics using those specific words for anyone, but in looking at the behaviors of other lightning rods and their speedsters we can sort of extrapolate that Kon, Cassie and Tim are his lightning rods with possibly Cissie (realistically she would be one but she dropped off from continuity so we didn't get to see her much after 2003).
Kon being one with an intense 'pull' for Bart is something that has the most evidence in Young Justice 2019 when Bart worked exhaustively to find Kon and to bring Young Justice back together.
When the newly formed Young Justice sans Kon were all zapped to Gemworld they were all scattered but it was Bart who appeared literally right next to Kon. Everyone else had been deposited in more random places, but not Bart. This suggests that while he does have a bond with Tim and Cassie, it is to Kon that he may have a special bond with.
There are other instances of Kon's existence being a focal point for Bart throughout their comic relationship such as during the World Without Young Justice arc where a de-powered mundane Kon was able to give Bart the courage and strength to overcome his deep paralyzing fear to reabsorb his dying scouts.
Also Kon and Bart have an intense friendship where there are multiple instances where they pick each other up and seek each other out which is at least the grounding basics for a lightning rod. For further reading on that you can look at the Konbart Manifesto.
To quantify if a lightning rod is a soulmate is a little mushy. If you are a romantic sort and the idea of soulmates pleases you tremendously then yes a lightning rod can be used to describe one, but there are more 'extras' that come with a lightning rod than just an intense burning love and a 'meant to be' attraction.
There is something more physical, metaphysical, spiritual and atomic about their bond than it being a divine uncontrollable force. There is an element of spookiness involved for sure, but there also is an element of choice about who become one based on built up love.
A lightning rod is something as profound as a gravitational pull for a speedster; their relationship is like Earth and our moon where Earth is a speedster and the moon is a lightning rod. Without the moon as a ballest Earth's stability in orbit would likely change catastrophically and for a speedster this is also the case.
I hope this makes some semblance of sense.
TLDR: A lightning rod is like a soulmate that a speedster has semi-control over but is no less spooky and endearing.

All these arguments about whether Barry or Wally is the best Flash but have they considered Wally will say it's his beloved Uncle Barry and Barry will say it's his amazing son Wally, he's so proud of him (but he also still has his favourite superhero Jay and there wouldn't be any Flashes without Jay). "Oh Barry should be dead again so Wally is the only Flash" actually Wally would be really sad if Barry was dead again and Barry should get to be an old man and be as good at retiring as Jay is
I think the funniest part of that statement is that Wally has never been the only Flash, and even if they did get rid of Barry (Which. Even after that disaster of a movie I don't think we're in danger of, because bringing the comic book character back has made the Flash franchise more lucrative than it's ever been and DC sees sales and merch movement not Tumblr complaints) there would still be three Flashes. Unless they plan to kill off Jay and Avery for the sake of Wally being the only Flash. I think Barry and Wally are both at their best when they have each other to lean on, and it's absolutely criminal how underutilized that fact is in the comics right now. The real solution to all of the problems is to give Barry and the rest of the Flashfam a spinoff ensemble title so that there's room for more development of those characters, in addition to the big dramatic stuff happening in the main title with Wally. Wally gets the spotlight, Barry gets to actually interact with his family for a change, everyone else actually gets more than one appearance in a year. (To be clear, I'm not suggesting the spinoff would be Barrycentric, I'm saying put him in with the rest. He's so lonely. He needs hugs. He needs a break. He needs like 3 good days in a row. And he needs to make babies with Iris.) Problem solved, DC. And yes. Dear God, yes. Barry is Jay Garrick Fan #1 and I really miss how prominent Barry's comic nerd geekery used to be. Let him be Jay's cheerleader they should hang out.

talia is your top 5 dc characters!?!? how iconic!! i actually stared following you recently because I ran into a really old talia post by you (and like your name (watch it would be so embarrassing if you "starberrytaila" was a reference to something other than talia in her pink outfits)). talia is also a character that just came out of nowhere for me. i got into dc/ batfam for dick, and i fell in love with his relationship with damian. after reading a bit more stuff i realized that jason speaks to me more, and i was just gonna leave it at that. bUT THEN TALIA HAPPENED????? i just get so emotional over characters who grew up in not the best environment having the biggest heart possible and their love and loyalty being the reason why they do things. to have the courage to be kind when they were specifically taught/ or raised otherwise. SEEING CHARACTERS BEING THE PEOPLE THEY WANT TO BE, SHOWING THAT THEYRE MORE THAN THE PEOPLE WHO ARE AROUND THEM I JUST *gnaws at the bars of my enclosure* man i miss "heart on her sleeve" talia.
i know you said you don't wanna get too much into your thoughts on talia (I know we can be very protective of her) but what are your favorite things about her (that's not exactly thoughts right? its just a list)
also for the other characters you gush about would you be willing to do a reading list or reblog the reading list you're following. i'm trying to expand out of the batfam (I feel like in this scenario the grass is greener on the other side). I've been thinking of either the flashfam, arrowfam or wonderfam, but seeing you post about the lanterns makes me wanna start reading them too
Omg yes!!!!! Talia has always been one of my favorite DC characters!! Back in 2019-2020, I like devoted all my time to reading her preboot appearances!! LMAOOOOO dw the name strawberrytalia is a Talia reference!! 😭 My old icon was a pink Talia one lol, and then I changed it because it felt too misleading since I don’t really post about her anymore.
And the reason is because there’s this really big contradiction when it comes to Talia and characterizing her. Yes, I go by preboot Talia who was a much more complex and sympathetic character and I hate what Morrison did to her. But if I want to accept Damian, then I have to acknowledge Talia as a shitty mother and that doesn’t sit right either because this woman didn’t even want kids lmao. So to avoid everything that makes my head hurt and all the pretty abominable takes here, I don’t post about her often. I think the last time I did was calling out her fans who call her Chinese rep instead of Arab rep.
No but I 100% agree with you!!!!!! Talia is very dear to me, and honestly for a personal reason, I associate her with happier, easier memories in my life and when I read all her comics. She really is for the people who have been forced to make due with their circumstances. She is so loving, and I love that similarly to Bruce, loving too deeply is one of her biggest flaws. I really loved her Lexcorps era, and I feel like she’s such a versatile character that has the potential to be a really interesting view of nature vs nurture, and I also think Damian has this potential but they’re both misused by DC. I also love her personality because honestly she’s really enjoyable in that same dramatic flair kind of way that people praise Jason for, but like Talia was the og!!!!! She has a place in my heart for sure, which is also why I avoid her tag lol because I also can’t help but feel really sad and take it personally when people hate on her. And this isn’t me saying Talia is 100% perfect or good, but I just don’t subscribe to what racist writers portray her as.
I love the Talia who saved Bruce’s life multiple times, who defied her father even if she was caught in a loop when it came to him and the League, I love how well-read she is, I LOVE how passionate and short-tempered she can be, I love that she’s both extremely selfless and selfish in the worst way possible sometimes, to her own detriment. I really love how in a lot of ways, she did subvert the dragon lady trope when she was written at her best, peak time in terms of characterization.
ALSO EEEEEEE I love that you’re looking for recs!!!! That makes me so happy!!! I’m gonna add a read more now because this part might get a little long lol!
OMG okay so I used to be a hardcore bat stan for a couple of years, so I’m speaking from personal experience when I say:
The Batfam -> Arrowfam pipeline is REALLLL
And it’s because the two families are similar in the sense that they are the only non metahuman majority, the families that pretty much carry weapons and intellect and that’s it. So therefore many of the elements and dynamics you may like in the bats are there in the arrows, enhanced even!
It’s less of a weird transition when you’re expanding genres, and another thing that helped was that the arrows are super entertaining!! They all have really strong, out there personalities, a lot of depth, and stories that touch on various political topics. The family element is also a lot more present 😭🫶 They’re not perfect, but they would def kill for each other
Ah!! But tbh I’ve started not trusting detailed reading lists because the ones I’ve followed tended to let me down a bit 😭 A lot of comics listed didn’t even have the character in them, let alone any valuable moments :(
So I think it might be better to start off with 2-3 really good, really well-loved works, and see if it’s a fit, and then maybe the reading lists will work!!
Arrows:
1. Green Arrow: Longbow Hunters is super short but it sets up really important events, has the best Ollie characterization, and is pivotal for DinahOllie imo
2. Green Arrow: Quiver. This is heavy on Mia’s introduction, and it’s very much loved by Arrow fans and it’s pr much the only good part of GA 2001. This is the first 10-12 issues of GA 2001 I believe. Sets up family dynamics!
3. Green Arrow Rebirth. I was debating on between this and GA Vol 2, arguably the best arrow iteration, but I decided Rebirth is a better place to start for beginners. Not the best characterization, but it sets up the dynamics and it has Emi!!!!
I would recommend GA Vol 2 because it is really good!! But it’s a pretty loaded run because Ollie…um dies lol and is gone, so Connor steps up and takes the mantle of GA. I’d save this for after you read the beginner ones. Also optional is GA/Black Canary which isn’t HORRIBLE, but it has a lot of weird writing inconsistency and behavior that comes out of nowhere.
For the Flashfam, I’m admittedly following a Bart reading list and going off recs from people I asked here!! The Bart reading list is a lot more legit than the ones I complained about, and I can def rb it!
I started with The Flash 1987 #92 and I’m still working my way through the run!! It’s a lot more enjoyable than I expected! Wally and Linda are fun, and Bart’s story is so interesting. I haven’t gotten to the part with Max yet but every Bart fan I know loves their relationship.
I’m a beginner to the Wonderfam still myself, but I’m planning to read Trial of the Amazons story, and then Nubia’s books, and then some of Diana’s best recs. They are sooooo fun, I’m really enjoying the Wonderfam a lot.
ALSO I might get side eyes for this but honestly I never paid attention to the Wonders or Diana because I always thought she was so boring and uptight when she’s with the League. Then I read The Witching Hour and JLD 2018 and I fell in love with her 😭 I saw her in such a different light omg.
Wonder Girl 2021 is also a really good place to start because YARAAAA <333 It’s super short too, only about 7 issues!
Trial of the Amazons story reading guide:
1. Trial of the Amazons #1
2. Nubia and the Amazons #6
3. WW 2016 #785
4. Trial of the Amazons: Wonder Girl #1
5. WW 2016 #786
6. Trial of the Amazons: Wonder Girl #2
7. Trial of the Amazons #2
Now for Green Lantern recs…that is HARD because it’s a bit of an acquired taste lol
Okay let’s get this out of the way because this is like the only definite yes I have: FAR SECTOR ‼️ ITS SUCH A GOOD STORY AND JO IS AMAZING!!!!
Other than that…. uhhh Green Lantern: Blackest Night was one of the stories that got me REALLY into the lore and the electromagnetic spectrum (whatever it’s called lmao) it’s also a pretty fun introduction to the characters, esp Hal, Carol, Sinestro, the other Lantern corps leaders.
After that I moved onto GL 2011 except I skipped Venditti’s part lmao, and honestly this era isn’t even good, it’s just fucking insane. Wild shit happens and it’s like kind of funny.
I would definitely recommend GL Vol 3, but specifically the Emerald Twilight arc and everything to do with Kyle (he was actually the iconic GL up until they brought back Hal)
I admittedly haven’t finished the major readings for Simon and Jess yet, but I think GL Rebirth is promising for them (as in: you might like it)
There are a few others but again I don’t wanna make this overwhelming. I’m gonna go back and condense it into a smaller, more concise list soon but again…GL recs are hard 😭 they’re not very good LMAOOO
But yeah!!! If you’re looking for hero family dynamics outside of bats, the Arrows are really fun and interesting. The Wonderfam has super fascinating lore and a really good cast too. The Flashfam is my least knowledgeable sphere, but their stories and concepts are so cool and they’re very fun to keep up with. And the Lanterns are so <333 I still love them
I hope this response helps in some way!!!! I’m so happy I got this ask, it’s so sweet!!! 🫶

jaybart headcanons pls
Ffs I just saw this cause tumblr didn’t notify me of any requests and I checked manually, rip. anyways, ABSOLUTELY! You’re in for a treat
• Bart has an oral fixation, which means he has a bad habit of biting the inside of his cheek or his tongue. Jason always has sucking candies (suckers, mints, life savers, etc) on him to keep him from doing that
• Jason is a classical literature geek while Bart is a comic nerd, and they often debate over plot devices used in their respective books
• Both of them have different comforts when it comes to calming a nightmare. When Jason wakes up, images of green tinted vision and uncontrollable rage pushing him to the brink of insanity, Bart knows not to touch him since that could be a trigger. Instead he sits some ways away from Jason and asks him simple questions (what colour is the sky? How old are you?) or walks him through the 5 senses trick until he’s grounded back to the present. When Bart is startled awake with a choked off scream, as he watches himself die over and over again and it feels like his body is being torn apart down to the molecular level, Jason has to hug him from behind tightly, staying silent and breathing exaggeratedly to get Bart to match to remind him that yes he’s alive and still there, not in a VR simulator or dead in the speedforce
• They don’t have constant contact with each other since their schedules are very different and both of them have missions at different times, so all of their texts are spread far apart and never say a typical ‘hi’ or ‘miss you’. Most consist of complaints about their day or a sudden random thought (“your brother is being a real dick, pun intended, planning on pranking him. How does he feel about paint in his hair?”) the other won’t see or reply for hours but they are perfectly content with that, they still see each other in person often enough.
• Bart has a way of getting Jason to do absolutely anything and it’s not by batting his ridiculously pretty doe eyes like one might think (though that is one method) Bart just challenges Jason into bets or trades and Jason caves cause his competitive, chaotic side wins over every. Single. Time.
• Bart doesn’t hold it against Jason not getting along with the rest of the bats like people typically do. (Mostly cause Bart’s got his own issues he needs to iron out with the flashfam even if him and Wally are on semi decent terms now) Even though Tim is one of his best friends, he listens to Jay’s complaints without bias and laughs at the dramatic retellings of their outings
• Similarly, Jason doesn’t hold Bart’s villain heritage over him like a lot tend to do when they find out about it. (Seeing as most of his family has some sort of bad blood) and he encourages Bart to reach out to his brother (Owen) despite him being a rogue (cause Bart deserves some family damnit!)
I have more but I didn’t want to overdo it in one. <3

C, T and X!!!
BOY OH BOY 😈
C - A ship you have never liked and probably never will (be nice)
BATLANTERN. respectfully, what the hell is up with that? i've never seen any chemistry between them beyond thinly veiled irritation and professionalism on a good day. there's obviously moments between them of genuine kindness and respect, but..... hal is a very closed off person, despite what he may display otherwise. he has a small circle of extremely close friends that probably know more about him than his own family. and Bruce is Bruce. it just doesn't really make sense to me and never ever will
T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending, about anything at all (gender identity, sexual or romantic orientation, extended family, sexual preferences like top/bottom/switch, relationship with poetry, seriously anything)
I have plenty! but i'll narrow it down to a few.
1. Jason Todd is trans. i won't elaborate.
2. 80% of heroes AND villains have autism. there's just too many characters with Behaviors and i love representation. specifically with characters having fixations, stimming, having empathy issues or being bad at reading rooms. ALL of the gotham rogues have some sort of autism/adhd/ocd going on. (as someone with all of those it makes me so happy to see rep!! and often the OCD is portrayed just fine imo. which is rare)
3. lanternfam is just as close-knit as any other "dc family" (hero group). i think that recent comics have really fucked up GL's as a whole. i haven't enjoyed much that's come out in the last 10 or so years for them outside of some little spinoff stuff. (geoff johns...... count your days) but in my own little fantasy world they treat each other like family the same as flashfam batfam arrowfam whatever. like 4 really annoying brothers in a college dorm and the dorm is a giant green planet and college is Not Dying. they genuinely love each other and open up a lot. when simon and jessica join they are welcomed with open arms and instantly get invited to poker night that evening. i think comics (recently) have this weird give and take with love vs. disrespect with the lanterns and like..... they have been through WAY too much to hold even an ounce of animosity towards each other.
X - top 5-10 characters who are yoUR PRECIOUS BABIES AND YOU WILL DIE
BARRY ALLEN‼️‼️‼️🔊🗣 KYLE RAYNER. eddie nygma. koriand'r. jason todd. hal jordan. wally west. donna troy. saint walker.

as someone who clearly enjoys batman, who do you consider to be a part of the batfam? and what are your opinions on fanon batfam? anything specific in fanon that you just absolutely hate?
if by who do you consider you mean in my idealised world: bruce, alfred, dick, babs (as oracle), tim, damian, steph, cass, duke, luke, kate.
i think fanon batfam just sucks because they take these characters who are really interesting canonically and just reduce them to a few traits and exaggerate them greatly. it takes away from a lot of what makes the batfam inherently interesting. they’re not meant to be a well-oiled machine the way the flashfam or superfam are, they’re meant to be fucked up and have grievances with one another in some regard (that they can grow from obviously but you know what i mean).
like, i think dick (and cass) should always be in odds with jason. dick and jason both have problems with bruce and respect him in their own ways but where dick lives up to the ‘batman code’, jason shouldn’t, because the code failed him. the code wouldn’t allow him to gain catharsis in any way for what was done to him; and he’s a fundamentally better character when he’s away from most of them and does things with his own methods.
also a big hater of how fanon batfam looks at duke. that’s a kid with his own family (who’s cured of the joker toxin now)! why should he be adopted by bruce wayne? not only does it take away from what makes his character interesting, but it also leans into a problem the batfam already has - where a white father is somehow better than the character’s other bipoc parent (or in this case, parents).
also generally i think the batfam shouldn’t be around each other together as often - especially in the comics as of recent. these are all characters with very similar skillsets, and it leads to uninteresting story and team-ups, because they’re all providing the same utility. (it’s also why gotham knights’ as a video game doesn’t work at its core but i digress.) it’s also generally more interesting if they’re all spread across, meeting up every once in a while, but in the meantime they’re all across trying to save the world with the lessons they’ve learnt.
i also don’t like how fanon (and current comics!) handles steph and cass. these are two characters who are interesting individually too, but this obsession with having them be two halves of a whole who can’t exist without each other is extremely irritating.
the fanon i do like is talia being a good parent to damian. there are parts of morrison’s batman i enjoy (final crisis/batman and time/batman and robin/return of bruce wayne) but the way they fucked over talia is genuinely so awful that it paints a poor light on the rest of the run. but also i think there’s an interesting story to be told where talia raises damian as a good parent but still keeps him from bruce because ultimately even though he’s a good man, like her own father she feels like he’s too dedicated to the mission to ever truly settle down - which lines up with my idea of bruce anyway (that scott snyder’s batman also really expresses), the idea that he can’t have the perfect life in a nuclear family or whatever, it’s either that or the mission, and he’d choose the mission every time with the family he’s already made.
i do enjoy the cutesy fanon stuff every once a while even i’ll admit that, it’s just an issue when people don’t even interact with any of the canon and pretend like the characters are like this, or even somehow ‘better’, when most - if not all - of them aren’t. it’s why WFA didn’t work for me, i’ll read an issue here and there, but i can’t read it weekly. it’s too much.

hi i was wondering, i’ve been getting into writing lately, and i wanted to know, how do you decide on how to characterize your dc characters? i feel like you do such an amazing job and characterizing them all but when i try to write i can’t help but feel like I’m not quite doing them justice 😭
hiiii first of all thank you SO much for saying that you are too kind <333 also know that i am constantly trying to find my footing with that because it really can be so difficult.
and tbh.. hmm all i can really recommend is doing reading for whichever characters you’re interested in. for tim i did sooooo much reading and to be fair a lot of that reading was for a big oc project i had planned which has now been put on hold… unfortunately… and the fics i have for him were then practice to get into it since i felt like i was at a good point to start.
writing is also something i would recommend in conjunction with it, like build a foundation, then start writing, and adjust from there! i’ll be the dangerous ledge was really me finding my footing for his character and in circle k i felt like i finally had a solid grasp on him ^_^
but i also know the prospect of following reading guides can be intimidating… if you’re going for the bats, there are guides that showcase a general view which might be easier to get into.
like no man’s land, while a massive event, was pretty solid in terms of batfam representation (well, og batfam without jason and duke and damian). but there’s also gates of gotham, which is a little more ‘modern’ and just four issues and features some really great dick, damian, tim, and cass!!! also bruce wayne: murderer?/fugitive and batman: contagion!
team comics can also help i think so that might be something to look for? young justice (1998) is a lot of fun if you’re leaning into tim, there’s probably something with the teen titans for dick but i can’t speak too much on him. and like birds of prey for babs, that kind of thing!
there’s this guide i’ve mentioned for the batfam that has a general section for the batfam then breaks down by character. i also have a reading guide tag with some random characters, i think i have like, supergirl/kara danvers, roy harper, talia al ghul, wally, etc.
@lornahs also has a bunch of reading guides for a whole slew of dc characters that are also a little easier to approach too! for the flashfam and superfam and arrowfam (there are probably many others i am forgetting rn) i personally don’t have much for that (and you could find stuff for them on that blog i think)… though i will say, regardless of who you’re interested in, you can still glean a lot of information about others even in individually-focused comics ^_^ and wiki is useful here and there too! a small shortcut i wouldn’t recommend you lean too heavily on is basing characterizations off fics just because that can get.. tricky. i mean ultimately you can do what you’d like but personally!!! i try to stay away from that and stick to canon! some influences are okay but. it’s a balance. you know
another thing, with canon, is i would honestly recommend pre-flashpoint appearances. new-52 and rebirth can be tricky. tim was like, an entirely different person in new-52 and people hated it so much that when they did rebirth (well there were many reasons for another reboot and ooc-ness in Many Characters was a large factor) they restored him to his original origins. but also the tim in the rebirth now is just….. Hngh.
almost all of my characterizations are based on pre-flashpoint canon basically. dgmw the writing can be bad and so can the politics but idk i’m not fond of rebirth/modern comics LMAO so it’s a little like the lesser of two evils??? either way i’m definitely biased but this is what i do!
with this and lots and lots of practice (even if it’s not good!! maybe especially if it’s not good because you can look at it and see where to improve!!), that’s the best way to get into it i think!!!
i hope?? this was a little helpful!! if you have any questions, lmk i’m happy to help <333 and good luck too!!!

Chapter Five: The Omen (Lilith's POV)
Donna suggested the trip, and Roy insisted on driving us. I invited Bette and Kole, and Donna requested Raven join us. It was the only time we all had off to vacation. We planned on spelunking and walking the beach and doing all sorts of things, but the closer the trip got, the more we all started feeling uneasy. Raven read a book, Bette nibbled on trail mix, Donna messed around with the map, Roy ignored her directions, and Kole slept soundly on my shoulder. Occasionally, I'd lean over and glance at Raven's book or check if Kole was alright, but the car was mostly silent.
Roy stopped in the middle of the road, and everyone looked up. "Injured animal in the road... Hold on," Roy whispered. He rolled the window down partway. "Hey! Do you need-?"
"No, thanks! Can you get around?" a man yelled, and Roy answered back before driving around them. Raven grabbed my wrist.
"Did you feel that?" Raven questioned. I shushed her. Where she came from, those feelings weren't as foreign to normal people. But yeah, I felt it. A full-body cold started in my frontal lobe and penetrated my scalp, trickling down my neck, shoulders, and chest like ice water. Fear. Primal. Final. It was different than regular fear. It was dreadful, helpless, hopeless. That was a fear, unlike anything I'd ever felt before.
"Mhm," I mumbled.
Raven and I felt things. Other people's feelings, the feelings of animals, and sometimes places. Empaths. Raven was more in tune with it than I was, but it came at a cost for both of us. She was heavily affected by the emotions of others, and it showed on her face all the time. I could mask it, but she never had to. Donna touched Roy's arm for Roy's comfort. Not hers. I could feel his distress.
He sighed. "Call me superstitious, but I've only seen a dead coyote a few times before, and nothing good ever comes from it... And that coyote isn't gonna make it. Looks like something ate it up," Roy stated. Donna whispered in his ear, and he shook his head.
The car fell silent until we reached Happy Harbor. I woke Kole, and we walked in the dark to our cabin. Raven had a dizzy spell as soon as we walked in, and I reached out to help her, but I felt it too. Bette grabbed me, Kole grabbed Raven, and they sat us down. "Yikes, you guys good?" Bette questioned. Raven and I nodded. The energy there was outrageous. Raven's hand brushed mine, and I saw a flash of Bette covered in blood and screaming. I recoiled. Raven stood up and took a deep breath.
"Let's go make s'mores while it's still early," Raven suggested. Everyone eased up, and we grabbed our jackets and the bag of roasting sticks and walked to the beach. Roy and Donna lagged behind, so we couldn't see them holding hands. We all knew about them, but they were worried about being labeled as an item and messing up their friendship. I didn't have to be an empath to see it wouldn't last.
When we got to the beach, a girl and her three male friends had already started a bonfire, so we shared our s'mores. They were calm and collected, so it helped everyone else relax. Then, a brunette and a redhead with a bowl cut came to the beach with hot dogs, and the brown-haired guy made a pass at me. Bette lied and told him it was a gay beach, but I don't think she had to lie to this one to leave me alone. He looked like the type of guy that was more than willing to take no for an answer and move on. I could feel the grief coming off his body, so I could've let him down without hurting his feelings.
We were at the beach until it got too cold to be outside. Once we returned to the cabin, we divvied up rooms and beds. Three rooms. Three beds. Bette and Kole wanted to stay up and paint each other's nails, so they bunked together. I asked Raven to stay with me, so Roy and Donna wouldn't have to find a way to lie to be together. The worst kept secret in America. Roy took his jacket off, and I glanced at his tattoo. Roy met eyes with me, and I leaned forward. I wanted to get a closer look and get a laugh from him. "Can I help you?" Roy laughed.
"Just getting a look at the details," I replied.
Roy nodded, and everyone got ready to take their showers. First, Roy, then Donna, Raven, Bette, Kole, and finally me. I didn't mind. I climbed into bed with Raven, and she turned to me. "What did you see?" Raven asked.
"You first," I whispered.
"I think Kole is going to kill someone," Raven whispered. I knit my brows.
"I think Bette's gonna kill somebody," I replied, "Maybe we should talk about something else..."
Raven looked at me, and we held eye contact for what felt like forever. "Do you think it'd be the same?" Raven questioned. I took a breath. I knew what she meant. I thought about it before.
She drew my hand to her chest, and I let her touch mine. I could feel the smooth outline of her breast beneath the thin, satin fabric of her lingerie. I passed curiosity and ventured into arousal as my hand slid down her stomach and came into contact with her thigh. Her skin was as icy and silky as it looked. "We should stop," I whispered as I tried to gain control of my senses.
"Do you want to stop?" Raven questioned. I shook my head, and she leaned forward so close that our lips brushed against each other. Our eyes were wide open at first, but her lips were so soft. When she ran her foot against my leg, I shut my eyes and melted into the ecstasy of the moment. And then I felt it. Her arousal interlaced with something else. Something innocent and sweet.
"Are you-? You're a virgin?" I questioned. She nodded. "You want me to take your virginity?"
Raven answered with a tentative kiss, and she pushed me down further into the center of the bed by my shoulders. I pulled her nightgown up underneath the sheets and let my fingers brush against the front of her panties. My middle finger ran up and down against the cotton fabric as she lifted her leg, throwing it over my thigh. We kissed a third time, with confidence, as I hooked my thumb in her waistband. I could hear her breathing in between kisses. Then thunder crackled, and lightning flashed, scaring us apart. We turned, facing opposite sides of the room.
I don't know if Raven slept afterward or if she lay awake. But I know one thing for sure. I still wanted to fuck her. That feeling was mine. Undeniably mine.

I always think of this comment by you about if Wally did come back. And like, I always would have wanted Wally storming away from everyone else and just ending up where else but….keystone city, feeling like he’s hit rock bottom but willing to dig and just so happens to run into Hartley Rathway and Linda Park and that’s when you realize he’s always gonna have that five year gap from his old friends but that doesn’t mean…he can’t truly start over.
And Wally’s powers have always had a element of clap if you believe to them so I think a part of him needs to get away from others to come into his weird speedforce powers, maybe run into Max or something. Like he needs to fight Zoom behind a Dennies, and uncover like 10 cults in 2 months like Wally does in the comics.
Plus, like Jesus Christ in heaven all I want is for Wally and Linda (and Hartley) to be known as besties again
i just want wally and the flashfam to be taken more seriously by the young justice writers. literally every single family unit in yj has had its moments in the sun; this last season had a big emphasis on the supers and martians, the previous season with the arrows, s2 with the atlanteans... surprisingly the batfam has had little screentime but dick has always been a main character and i think the batfam's strong presence in pretty much every other dc property makes up for it.
but the flashes?? i'm racking my brain. there was "coldhearted" in s1 which featured mary and rudy eating breakfast with wally. they showed up again in the season when the adults were sent to a different dimension,, and they showed up when wally died. bart had one conversation with jay about being an outsider but that wasn't even one-on-one. the flashes appeared here and there in season 2 when bart was first introduced and then nothing really happened, nothing about the tornado twins or bart's past or anything...
the flashes are all about family but when has that ever been represented? every single episode or scene featuring them aside from the wally + wests moments has had some element of tension. bart and jay's convo, bart's interactions with barry, even wally's interactions with barry, but they're supposed to be like father and son!!
and then you add the fact that the characters are never in central, the only flash villain (aside from Grodd who never shows up) who's around is Captain Cold but he barely has any lines and is never solo. there's been no zoom, no rogues, no trickster or reverse flash or weather wizard. max mercury has never showed up. no mention of hartley or linda.
i love spitfire and i love them together and i love wally's friendships but i want the emphasis on /him/. his origins were briefly discussed in the denial episode and in a comics attachment but we never talk about wally's insecurities, or his backstory, or why he retired, or his idolization of barry— all of the things that have been historically key to understanding Wally West. I'm still upset that every other character got a good therapy session with Dinah after "Failsafe" but Wally. Why deny the audience a chance to learn more about the serious sides of him only to make a joke about him being in denial which we already know?
Ugh.
I agree with everything you said, Anon. I want Wally to figure out who he is away from the others on the team. What place does he have in the world now? How much catching up is there to do? Can he still get his degree, his dream career? How does Wally, whose pride is so easily hurt, come back from these blows?
