HOLY SHIT I JUST READ THE LAST CHAPTER OF MONSTROUS. the fact that you’ve opened the universe up MORE as you ended it makes me so frikkin excited but also sad because I could live in this world you created forever. I absolutely LOVE that you play with the rules of destiny throughout this piece: Calanthe thought she was the gate and that her child would destroy the world, but she is the gate for the child that will mend the world (well actually for a couple of children who will mend the world). Calanthe has resented herself and her destiny for so long because she always believed that she was bad— as you address in the epilogue she only believed this because she was taught to believe this— but now she knows that you’re not born one way or the other. You choose your path. You genius. This entire story is about choosing love, choosing trust, choosing the path you take (whether you feel your moving toward your destiny or away from it). Calanthe cannot help her destiny as gate but she CHOSE not to raise her children in the image of her father and the other dragons, instead she chose to love them and protect them and the result of that is goodness. She is a harbor, as you wrote, from which these women will leave and bring about peace where there was violence. A harbor to which they can return always when they need love and safety and company. BRILLIANTLY DONE.
Anyways I will stop rambling now because I could write a fucking essay about this- hahaha. LOVE THIS SO MUCHHHHH ❤️❤️❤️

I love all of this ask. All of it. I wanted to wait and give people a chance to read the end before answering but enough time has passed so here we go!
YESSSS the whole entire point of the story boils down to two things: first, that you can be who you are because of what happened to you, or in spite of it. In both Eist and Calanthe, we see both sides of this, in the various ways they accept and reject their legacies and their childhood traumas. Second, that love itself isn’t a cure-all and no one else can ever “heal” you, even though they can give you the courage and support to do so on your own. At the center, Choice is the key component of both points. Finding choice even amongst the immutable things like “fate” or “destiny” is something I personally find immense comfort in.
And interestingly enough, when you think about it: the changing of the world doesn’t begin with Calanthe’s daughters or granddaughter. It begins the moment she CHOOSES to give Pavetta more choice than she ever had. It solidifies the moment she chooses to comfort and reassure Ciri and tell her all the things that she wished she’d heard at such a young age. And by choosing to respond with love and compassion and a genuine concern for the child rather than her own wants and ego and opinions, she changes the world by in turn showing these descendants how to approach the rest of the world around them.
She’s still gonna teach Ciri how to fight, though. And Eist is going to be filled with both adoration and terror once their own daughter arrives and he watches this group of women he loves beyond measure go off to literally take on the world.
The story itself can be boiled down to one of my fave quotes of all time, from the movie Suckerpunch:
“And finally this question, the mystery of whose story it will be. Of who draws the curtain. Who is it that chooses our steps in the dance? Who drives us mad? Lashes us with whips and crowns us with victory when we survive the impossible? Who is it, that does all of these things? Who honors those we love for the very life we live? Who sends monsters to kill us, and at the same time sings that we will never die? Who teaches us what's real and how to laugh at lies? Who decides why we live and what we'll die to defend? Who chains us? And who holds the key that can set us free... It's you. You have all the weapons you need. Now Fight!”

Monstrosity by Emre Erol
The term “monster” as a piece of fiction goes back a long way in history. Even in the earliest cultures monstrous pieces of art can be seen such as Humbaba in The Epic of Gılgamesh. And the reason for this may be the need for human beings to make sense of the world around them in the sense that they need a story that serves their lives. This is partly the factor that created religions actually and even before the three big religions of the world, there was mythology. In pre-historic times, in a world where all the things around the world and sky were a mystery, people came up with their own answers to this mystery according to their cultural reference points. Therefore, it can be said that “the monstrous” or “the monster” used to stand for a very specific belief, the belief that the evil and all the bad things that happen in the world stem from these monstrous creatures or objects. However, this belief was different from culture to culture. For instance, in the Ancient Greece there were lots of gods that were responsible for many things in both worlds and some of them were responsible for only the bad things but very few can said to be responsible for only the good things. People who live in this society saw their gods as humanly and godly at the same time and created their stories accordingly. Therefore, many gods had both characteristics of the good and the evil. In a sense they were the first monsters that used to reflect a truth in the world.
This tradition of creating mosters continued and spread in the field of art and literature, and what these monsters stand for or reveal has been changing since it did. Many artists along the way played their part in the creation of monsters and the monstrous in order to express themselves, reveal their doubts and fears, show their vision to warn people about what might happen in the future or what is happening now, or simply have fun and entertain people. Perhaps the most surprising thing that these creations revealed is that monsters hide a part of humanity inside them in the sense that these tags that people attach to them is actually inside them as well. Because we live in a world where nothing is one thing-black or white for example-and everyone-people, and even monsters-contain multitudes, these monsters point out our fear and insecurities, and represent our hidden animalistic impulses. And in some cases, they are less monstrous than us. Therefore, the etymology that the word “monster” has, gives some clues about the ways in which these creations take place in our inner and outer worlds.

Have you ever seen volcano lightning?
Once. A long time ago. And the Susano’o creates something similar, when weather conditions are right for it.

wait... ok, hold on, sir. so, which other side effects do your other jutsus have? i mean, coughing up blood is pretty bad, but does your taijutsu have any side effects? your ninjutsu? perhaps headaches bc of your sharingan? 👀
Wait until you hear about sharingan migraines. And without fail the Susano’o produces the sensation of one’s body having been placed on a bed of hot coals, approximately 5-7 hours after use.

YES Kira kicking ass, protecting people, ON HER OWN not just helping a dude I love it MORE OF THIS PLEASE
Not much makes me softer than Mama McCall mom-ing Stiles. My mom’s a nurse and raised me pretty much by herself. She stepped up and mommed the shit out of my best friend when she needed it. TW gets a lot wrong, but I love Melissa so much and I’m happy to see a lot of her this season 💜
DAMN GIRL Kira did some work 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I know a lot of folks don’t like Daddy Argent but OOF SIR 🥵
Every time I’m like this is dumb maybe I’ll stop watching, Derek comes on screen for one second and I’m like hmmm no that’s fine I’ll definitely watch infinite episodes of this show. GOOD LORD HE’S SO ATTRACTIVE.
Stiles’ hair in S4 looks like what would happen if I gave my kid some gel and let her loose on his head.
Scott’s claws look like bad acrylics in this shot 🤣
