Hello!! A brief(ish) recap before the actual list. It’s been a pretty wild year in wingsland, mostly thanks to finishing up my second master’s degree in December (finally, BYE!). Looking back, I’m surprised at how much content I actually created, but this has been a refuge and source of comfort for me while running on fumes between work and school and general adulting. 2023 also marked some changes in my listening and sources of inspiration. I fell more out of interest with txt (apologies to all followers who were here for them… this is the second time this has happened, oops?) but fell even more in love with Monsta X while discovering some other new or new-to-me artists (more on that in another post). Reason was my first official comeback with them, and it really lit a fire in my brain. I have a few ongoing series that I intend to continue, whether they’re gifs or audio compilations. I giffed a LOT of besties (minhyuk + hyungwon, the soulmates of soulmate besties). It brings me so so much joy to work on those sets and the various audio edits or just being excited about musical details in my music box tag. I also managed to squeeze in a few angsty mv sets along the way, because tbh I feel like I am thriving most as a creator when something is pulling at the heartstrings. I know mbbblr has been quiet lately (and must seem exceedingly so to those who were around years ago), but I will keep being noisy about them until mx6 is reunited and beyond. Thank you for sticking around with me ♡

Day 30: Partners (MONSTA X: Chae Hyungwon)

this is horrible HAHAHAHA it's the second-to-the-last day of MTM and today's prompt is:

Day 30: Sports Setting

and i was going to make like an "i can do anything better than you" plot, but this is the most i can do with the time i had today. was super busy and this deformed baby is what was born. hayyyy idk, i was really looking forward to this prompt bc (1) the premise i made was really fun and (2) it's hyungwon HAHA but apparently my brain juices have run out

ALSO IF Y'ALL ARE WONDERING, the sport they're doing is dancesport aka competitive ballroom, which i also practice hihi i'm so predictable, trying to insert dancesport into every sports related thing lmao. it is 100% a sport and south korea is also a member of the world dancesport federation. it was so hard trying to describe the steps without being overly technical and using the actual names man, brain hurty

“Two—three—cha-cha-cha! Two—three—cha-cha-cha! One more—cha-cha-cha!” your coach chants, clapping in time to the beat as you and Hyungwon spin around the dance floor. You end with your right feet forward and in an open hold, your hands held lightly in his. The music stops and all that’s audible is your labored breathing.

“Oh my god, fuck,” Hyungwon says, letting go of your hands and doubling over to take in deep breaths. You drop your hands to your hips and walk around, trying to slow your heart rate before sitting down to grab water. “How long until the end of the combo?”

Your coach leans on the wall next to the sound system, leisurely scrolling through his phone. “Not long, just a few more steps,” he says. “Ten minute break and we’ll try the rumba. And let’s try to finish it today, shall we? So we can work on your jive on Wednesday.”

You waddle over to your bags and crouch down to grab your water bottle and squirt some much needed liquid in your mouth. You let out a satisfied sigh after swallowing, breathing out slow before standing back up and wiping your sweat with a towel.

Hyungwon does the same, leaning one hand on the mirrored wall as gulps down water. He rests one foot on its heel and turns it this way and that, flexing and pointing his toes to stretch the muscles; the other foot gets the same treatment.

You go up to the mirror, a little ways away from your partner, and lean your weight on both hands to practice your swivels. Left foot steps to the right and as you change weight, bring the right foot in and face to the left side; repeat starting from the right foot; repeat starting from the left foot.

It’s quiet in the studio as you mind you continue your swivels and Hyungwon reviews the choreography on the floor. For the nth time these past two weeks you wonder how you ended up with him as a partner. You still somehow can’t believe that there isn’t another guy available in the club to compete with you for the Lilian’s Cup this season—and you still somehow can’t believe that Hyungwon of all people offered to partner with you.

It’s not like he’s a bad club member—far from it, actually. He shows up for every club meeting, sure sometimes he’s late but he participates the whole time and even asks to stay behind to work on the choreography sometimes when it’s a particularly tricky variation. You just. Never really talk. He hangs out with the couple of friends he has in the club, and you stick to the club officers who you know from some of your classes.

There’s this tiny voice in the back of your head that’s nagging at you to just talk to him. Because in the five training sessions you’ve had this month, not once have you spoken to each other save for the cursory greetings before and after practice. It’s mostly you both talking to your coach and not acknowledging each other.

Which is really bad, given that you’re supposed to be partners and have chemistry, especially for a dance like the fucking rumba.

You sigh, closing out the couple of cucarachas you did to stretch out your hips and slide over to watch Hyungwon.

He’s just starting the second combo you’ve learned for the routine, the natural top. So you slide into the ballroom hold and do three sets of rumba walks forward in time, looking at anything but him, though you can imagine the surprised look on his face.

After the natural top, you slide into an opening out and prepare for the sliding doors step, when you see Hyungwon stop from the corner of your eye.

His arms are outstretched in the proper positions, his left hand still holding your right, but the rest of his body is stuck in an unflattering stance, eyes flitting about and brows furrowing in frustration. “What’s the next step again?”

“Sliding doors,” you say, and step forward. He steps back as you lean your weight on your forward foot and lift your connected hands up and over your head. You step slowly, allowing him to find his footing in the step, and after a moment of fumbling, you watch both of you in the mirror, properly meeting in the middle and splitting with every side step. After the second sliding doors step, you halt, coming to the end of the choreography so far. There’s still a ways to go, seeing as you’ve only been taught around sixteen bars.

Despite the rumba being a slow dance, you’re still somehow breathing heavily. You lament sometimes that the rumba is your favorite dance because the muscle control it requires is insane. The push and pull between slow and sharp movements gets you off kilter at some points, especially if those difficult turns have to be done without support from a partner. Therefore, communication is necessary to build a solid foundation of give-and-take.

Which means you really have to open your mouth and talk to Hyungwon sometime soon if you want to do well for the Lilian’s Cup.

You pivot to face him, the canvas soles of your heels helping your sharp turn. “Do you need help with the choreo?”

Hyungwon had been staring at the ceiling, no doubt running through the routine in his head once again, but looked down at you when you spoke. He shrugs, bites his lips and says, “Yeah.” He sighs, resting his hands lightly on his hips as he leans on one foot, the other tapping the floor in agitation. “I have a tough time memorizing choreo unless I make it, so…”

You blink. “You make routines?”

Another shrug, and he holds up a hand with the palm down and tilts it from side to side. “Eeehh, sometimes. I’m still learning, and it’s full of basic steps. Definitely not competition caliber yet, not even bronze.”

You purse your lips, nodding. “Still, though, that’s pretty impressive. I’ve been dancing for a while and I can’t create choreo yet.”

“Well,” Hyungwon says, bending his lanky body backwards to open up his chest. “The first step is always the most challenging, I’d say. Once you actually try, it’s easier to take the next steps.” He intertwines his fingers and raises them above his head, groaning from the strain.

You smile at that, and decide that maybe Hyungwon is a better conversation partner than you initially thought. “How about we set like, a day in the week to practice. Just us, you know. I can help you memorize the routines for Lilian’s and you can teach me the stuff you make.” You clear your throat, gaze stuck on your feet, pointing and flexing and looking for something to do. “You know. If you’re cool with it.”

Hyungwon hums. “Yeah, sure.” You look up to see him looking into space, finger tapping on his chin as he thinks. “Can we meet up in the afternoon, though? ‘M not much of an early riser.”

You chuckle. “‘Course. I hate mornings, too.” You wipe your sweaty forehead with your towel and let it hang over your head like a veil as you jog to your bag. You come back to Hyungwon’s side a moment later, holding your phone out. “I also just realized that I don’t have your number yet. It’ll make setting up a date way easier.”

“Mm, you’re right about that,” he says, slender fingers taking your phone and tapping on the screen before handing it back to you. His contact is saved as Dance Partner Hyungwon. “Just a warning tho, I might not reply sometimes because I forget to.”

You tap your phone against your palm and shrug. “S’all right. I’ll just ask one of your friends to pester you then, like Minhyuk. I know he’s pretty… persistent.”

Hyungwon scoffs, but he has a fond smile on his face. “Yeah, that’d do the trick. I’ve known him for years, he won’t shut up unless I humor him.”

You’re about to reply when two loud claps echo through the room. “Okay, you two, break’s over,” your coach calls. “Starting positions please, and let’s finish up this routine today so we can just keep polishing.”

After dumping your towel and phone on your bag and sliding your hand into Hyungwon’s as you get into position, you whisper to him. “I’ll text you later about that after-practice practice.” As the sultry music starts, you have a thought. “And don’t you dare pretend you don’t know me when I finally message you, Chae Hyungwon.”

He bites his lips and looks over your shoulder, fighting a laugh. “Fine, fine,” he says, and composes himself, just in time for your cue to take the first step.

“The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are described by John of Patmos in his Book of Revelation, the last book of the New Testament. The chapter tells of a “‘book’, or ‘scroll’, in God’s right hand that is sealed with seven seals”. The Lamb of God, or Lion of Judah, (Jesus Christ) opens the first four of the seven seals, which summons forth four beings that ride out on white, red, black, and pale horses. Although some interpretations differ, in most accounts, the four riders are seen as symbolizing Conquest, War, Famine, and Death, respectively. The Christian apocalyptic vision is that the four horsemen are to set a divine apocalypse upon the world as harbingers of the Last Judgment.”

↳The White Horse - Conquest

He is the bringer of the beginning of the end. The first of the four to ride upon the wings of the apocalypse, he rides out on a glimmering white horse and looks like an angel sent from above. He is the one who doesn’t scare the masses and lulls them into a sense of beauty. However, he opens the path for the rest of the horseman to ravage the world.

I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, “Come and see!” I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest. (Revelation 6:1-2)

↳The Red Horse - War

He is the bringer of devastation. With a large army on his back, he rides through the gates with fire in his steps. He destroys cities and causes the war-mongering nature of humankind to spring forth. Forcing nations against each other, he brings about mutually assured total destruction. His symphony is the screams of a battlefield, his perfume the stench of blood.

↳The Black Horse - Famine

He is the bringer of starvation and cries of help. The innocents are his victims as he rides in on the heels of War. He takes the agriculture and burns supplies in his wake. Turning the Earth against humankind, he pushes harvests back into the ground and spoils their work. Forcing leaders to tax their people heavily, he topples economies and brings swollen bellies and dead children. 

When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come and see!” I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand. Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, “A quart of wheat for a day’s wages, and three quarts of barley for a day’s wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!” (Revelation 6:5-6)

↳The Pale Horse - Death

He is the bringer of the end. Resting at the gates, he watches the three other horsemen prepare humankind for his cold grip. He rides in on a skeleton horse offering those who are suffering a sweet release into the next world. Mothers and their children call out to him to end their pain. Leaders call out to him to end their wrongs. The world yields to him when darkness takes over. 

When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, “Come and see!” I looked and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine, and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth. (Revelation 6:7-8)

So I decided to do a modern setting inspired by the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. It was a fun scenario to write, so thank you again for sending it in. I hope it lives up to your expectations. Enjoy~

All epic love stories are found throughout time, repeating itself to continue to inspire love. One such love story is that of Orpheus and Eurydice. Orpheus was an extremely talented musician whose voice and talent with a Lyre moved all: People, animals, and even the Gods. Eurydice a nymph, was drawn to Orpheus through his music. All stories say that they fell in love, one so perfect it was never meant to last long, and it never did. The tale that is known to all is the tragedy that befell the pair. However, no one knows much of how, when, and where they fell in love. That is a story reserved for those who are in love, though each time we see this story, they get closer to their well deserved happy ending.  This time we will get to see our happy ending, but allow me to let you in on our little secret: Our beginning.

“Okay,” you said aloud to yourself, “I need a break.”

You took a moment to look around your room, inspecting your progress and planning what needed to be done next. You took a deep breath, trying to commit the smell into memory. After all, you only get to move into your first apartment only once. You were satisfied with the work you had done inside and despite more needing to be done you felt an urge to get outside. You had the window open and the slight wind that was brushing the leaves could be clearly heard, as was the birds, and the children playing at the park across from the apartment complex. Every sound that drifted in through your window was like a beckoning call, telling you to come and see your new home.  Not wanting to wait any longer, you grabbed your bag and headed for the door.

You decided to head where you heard the most noise, your feet carrying you to the park. The park was rather big with a playground in the center, fully equipped with what any child sought.

You took your walk around the grass field that lay to the left. There is a cluster of trees outlining the outer rim of the park, and just before that the was a few benches that sat in front of the trees, a safe spot out of the sun to take a rest. You took a seat on one of the empty benches, letting out a huff of air as you took in your surroundings. A smile tugged at the corner of your lips, as you knew just how much you would like your new home.

It was about 1 o'clock when you left your apartment, and a little over an hour has passed. You sat back and listened to the kids at play mixed with the natural sounds of the things around you. Anything natural flew out the window as the first notes of a song caught your attention. The music that was being played was a soothing tune, it’s soft melody was quietly asking for attention. Whoever was playing was good at what they do because you could see people walking towards the direction of the sound, trying to see the person responsible. It should have been expected, someone so talented with music could be also a good singer,but you were completely taken by surprise when he started singing. His strong, confident voice accompanied the music like the world’s best pair and just like the rest of the crowd your curiosity took control. You got to your feet and tried to see if you could get a look at him, just so you would know. With the crowd in front of you, you couldn’t see a thing, so you made your way through. He sat on a bench, much like the one you abandoned, with a guitar in hand. He sang with his eyes closed, trying, and succeeding, to convey his message to the crowd. His foot tapped, in order to keep rhythm and his head bobbed slightly. As he ended the song with one final strum, the crowd immediately began to applaud. He now seemed a bit shy as he let out a laugh and bowed in every direction. He reached one arm up as he stood straight, reaching behind his head and he smiled genuinely.

Call it what you want: intuition, fate, an educated guess. When you saw him, you knew he was somehow important to you, just how important was to be determined. The way your heart beat different now, as if following the rhythm of a new beat, was enough to let you know. Just thinking of the possibility of everything was interesting and new. How could it play out? What could you be to him? And he to you? So many possibilities.

And that scared you.

Like a splash of cold water, he looked at you. He locked eyes with you, and tilted his head to the side slightly, it was a movement so small he probably didn’t notice, but you did. The amount of attention he has already garnered from you was enough to confirm your previous thoughts, and you were incredibly unprepared. So, like previous situations when you were unprepared, you resulted to your go to move. You ran away.

You avoided him by turning into the crowd and walking as quickly as you could in the opposite direction. You headed in the direction of home, with one hand brought to your chest attempting to calm your bothered heart.

He looked through the viewfinder, trying to find a few good pictures on his way to meet his friends.

*Snap*

He quickly reviewed the picture with a smile, children always made good subjects looking so happy and unbothered. He looked into the viewfinder trying to find another shot, as he glanced, he noticed someone move out of frame. He saw a person walking through the park with a soft smile, and admiring eyes. They were most likely new to the area, since no one who has been living here all their life take notice of all the small, yet beautiful, things. They sat on a bench over by the trees, and without much thought he raised his camera and captured a sight so rare. When he looked at the picture he smiled brightly, everything in the picture could be perfect, at least for him. He wanted to get closer and try to see the greatness in the things you saw. So he sat on a bench, not too far from you. Whenever he saw a smile make it’s way on to your face he would look, just to see what had made you smile.

He felt his phone vibrate, and he saw his reminder of his meeting. He sighed as he glanced in your direction. He could almost laugh at his antics, he wanted to go up and start a conversation yet here he was sat away from you doing the opposite. Though small, learning the things that did make you smile made him happy. He glanced at the guitar next to him, and reached for it. He had noticed you and he knew now that he wouldn’t soon forget, so, even if it seemed selfish, he wanted to be noticed by you too. That is what everyone wants right? To be noticed by superiors, peers, and possible lovers. In that moment he was noticed.

As he finished the song he felt a bit of embarrassment make its way through him, he couldn’t believe he actually did that and with as much confidence as he had. He quickly bowed in different directions thanking the people for their attention. He steeled himself and looked in the general direction of where you had been previously. He hoped he could gain your attention, and as he met your eyes he was unprepared for the reaction his heart had. Your stare had breathed new life into him as his heart kicked answering his question of what this could be. Just before he could fully realize, you were gone like turning the lights off in a room.

Despite feelings to do otherwise, he let you go, hoping this wouldn’t be a decision he would soon regret.

It was always there when your thoughts became quiet, that boys voice. When you were doing dishes, walking to work, or laying down for bed. It had been a couple days and it still wouldn’t leave your mind. Of course after you ran, you wondered why you let the scared side of you take control. In that moment you’ll really thought he could be something to you, you could only hope that you hadn’t messed up your one chance of finding out. You sighed it was getting late, nearing 10 pm, and you felt restless. So you decided to head out to the park, figuring that being in the area of concern would help you sort out your thoughts and conclude your restlessness.

There was a slight chill in the air, but the weather was still comfortable. The atmosphere of the park at night was completely different, with the absence of light and children. There was a couple teenagers on a bench and a few late night joggers but other than that there was no one else. You walked to the playground and sat on the empty swings. As you moved back and forth on the swing, you came to a conclusion, if you were ever able to meet that singing boy again you would at least say hello. The worst thing that could happen is him saying hello and going on his way. 

As your momentum slowed, it took everything in you to not react as something brushed against your leg. Your heart sank as you quickly looked down and lept, hopefully, away from whatever was on the ground. When you looked down you felt your adrenaline spike as you saw the one thing you were deathly afraid of, a snake. You nearly ran, but you felt a bit of embarrassment flare as you saw its cartoon like face. It’s silly grin seemed to mock your terror as you reached down to grasp it. It wasn’t in your grasp long as you chucked it as far as its rubbery body could fly. A bit of triumph began to rise up in you, you turned with a bit of a grin on your face. You felt satisfied about, sort of, getting back at the thing that scared you most.

“What could a toy possibly have done to deserve that?” A voice called out from the opposite direction of the toy.

You quickly turned ready to reply, when you caught a saw who directed the question to you, “I…”

The words stopped as you stared in a state of disbelief. Just how was this happening, you wondered. The one person you were thinking of out of the thousands in the area was here now with you. Your previous words left your mind completely as you uttered, “You.”

He smiled brightly at the obvious recognition, “Hey.” He raised his hand to accompany his greeting. He asked, clarifying, “You were here at the park when I played the song, right?”

“Yeah.” You replied before quickly adding, “You were great by the way.”

“So were you,” came his reply. You were confused, for a moment and you watch as he seemed to process the words. His eyes widened, “No..I….What I mean…” He released a sigh, and covered his eyes with his right hand.

It slipped before you had time to catch it, a laugh was making its way from you. You don’t even know why, but you were glad when you saw his eyes crinkle and a smile stretch across his face. He throws his head back slightly letting out a laugh of his own. In this moment, you can feel everything change. The awkward, shy feelings leave as the smile stays on your face.

“Hoo,” he takes a breath to calm himself before reaching out his hand, “I’m Kihyun.”

You smile reaching for his hand, “______.”

Your hand met his as he grasped it. Your heart picked up a beat, as you feel the need to redefine warmth.

“I know its late, but there is this cafe around the corner. I could go for some food, you could join me if you’d like?” He asked like it made little difference if you did go, but the way he his lips seemed forced in a straight line and how he held eye contact said otherwise.  

“Sure.” You replied. You both began walking in the direction of the cafe. For a moment, you were walking a step behind him. He paused for a moment and looked over his shoulder at you, letting you catch up. Perhaps you were right in the beginning.

Pairing: Shownu x Reader

Genre & Warnings: This series will have a little bit of everything, although nothing too heavy. Angst in later chapters. Shownu will be a bit of a soft dom. Fluffiness overload. Comedy because it’s Monsta X. 

“Do my lips taste like Doritos?”

That was his only warning before Shownu was rudely awakened by a pair of wet lips that did indeed taste like Doritos.

“Minhyuk, what the fuck?” Shownu shot up off the couch, wiping crumb residue from his lips. He glared at his friend, the answering grin not faltering in the slightest. 

“Time to get up Papa Bear. We have a guest.” Minhyuk nudges him and gestures towards the front door where a middle age woman looked at her surroundings and at the boys with distaste. She nods curtly to Shownu as he makes his way to her. 

“Sohn Hyunwoo, the President of this Fraternity?” Her nasal voice asks, thick with disdain.

“Yes, ma'am.” 

“I’m here to inform you that your House director has quit. Again. As this is the fourth house director you’ve gone through is two years, and you have yet to obtain a new pledge this year, we will be reducing funding to your house. Furthermore, until you obtain some new pledges, we will not be assigning another house director. Since there are only five of you, we’ve decided that’s a waste of our resources. Once you obtain more, we’ll reconsider our decision.” 

Without another word she left, slamming the door behind her. Shownu stared at the door, trying to process the news. No house director meant no one to cook, or clean, or help keep the others in check. It meant no one buying groceries or other things they needed. Reduced funding meant they were in serious trouble. He supposed in the meantime he could start assigning chores. Kihyun could handle cooking and cleaning, with help from Shownu and Wonho.  Minhyuk could help Hyungwon grocery shopping. They’d have to come up with some sort of fundraiser to handle any other activities. 

Shownu sighed and ran a hand down his face. This was seriously driving him crazy. He didn’t even understand WHY the house directors kept quitting. Sure, the boys could be a handful sometimes, but they weren’t bad. More likely, it was that the directors came in thinking they were in for some sort of crazy college experience with a wild fraternity. Instead, they got five boys in the music program whose idea of a wild time was video games and bingeing on ramen. Shownu was actually starting to wonder if the college was considering closing the house for good. They needed new pledges. He just didn’t know what to do.

“Hey, who ate the last ramen? Seriously, guys, there’s nothing else to eat in here! You can eat anything else that you wish, but not all my ramen” Wonho yelled from the kitchen. 

“My only wish is that you shut your cakehole,” Hyungwon yelled from the other side of the house. “And you ate all of my ice cream, Mr. “I only eat healthy,” except for ice cream apparently.” 

Shownu grabbed his wallet and keys, sighing again as he headed out. He was going to have to find a job. He had kids to feed. 

Tutoring, nighttime warehouse work, and retail seemed to be all that was posted on the job board. He supposed if he had to he could apply to one of these retail jobs in the mall, and hope they’d be flexible with their hours. 

He was about to leave with a flyer for a clothing shop when he noticed another flyer underneath it. He pulled it out and saw it was a call for a nanny. The pay was ridiculously good. He supposed he could try something like this. He was pretty good with kids, and his frat brothers were basically his children at this point. It was worth a shot. 

He called the number on his way home, setting up a day to come interview. He was going on Friday, after his last class, to give them a chance to make a decision over the weekend. He emailed his resume as he walked home and tried not to think about the fact that the woman who answered had probably the sexiest voice he’d ever heard. 

It had been an incredibly long week. An incredibly long and loud week. With Kihyun essentially being promoted to house mother, he’d been nagging even more than usual, and that leads to everyone else being frustrated and taking it out on each other. It was an endless cycle of Kihyun bitching to Shownu about the boys, the boys bitching to Shownu about Kihyun, Hyungwon bitching about having to clean and Wonho bitching about there never being enough food in the house. He’d finally lost his patience and essentially kicked everyone out of the house today. He needed to calm down enough to handle this interview today. 

He stood in front of the little townhome. It was a pretty cute looking place. It was a warm brown with aged brick steps. Probably didn’t have more than three rooms inside. It looked like a comfortable home. 

Shownu took a deep breath and walked up the steps, knocking lightly. There was a bit of shuffling with the door and it sounded like someone was having trouble with the lock. When it finally swung open, there was no one there. 

“Hello.” A soft childlike voice whispered, followed by a pair of huge brown eyes peeking around the side of the door. 

Shownu smiled at the little boy. “Hey there. Is your mom home?” 

The boy nodded yes but didn’t move or say anything. Just watched him.

“Uh, can I talk to her?” Shownu shuffled his feet a bit, not sure if he should just walk in. 

“Jae, how many times do I have to tell you not to answer the door?” 

And there she was, the person to go with the voice he’d totally not been thinking of all week. God, she did not disappoint. She was stunning and looked much younger than he’d thought. As her welcoming smile dimmed with confusion, he realized he’d been staring and quickly snapped his mouth shut. He cleared his throat and bowed politely. 

“Hello, I’m Sohn Hyunwoo. Everyone calls me Shownu though. I’m here for the interview?” 

She looked momentarily surprised but ushered him inside the house. It was just as inviting inside. It had that warm and cozy lived in vibe, with a toy here and there. It smelled like cinnamon and lemon polish. Shownu couldn’t remember the last time he’d been in a home that didn’t smell like a locker room. She gestured to a comfortable looking brown leather couch and Shownu sank into it. He caught her staring but she’d quickly looked away, a light blush blooming on her cheeks. 

“I’m Y/N. I have to say, you’re nothing like what I’d pictured.” She chuckled. “I’d imagined some…I don’t even know. The opposite of you. Tiny and feminine. Talkative. You look like an athlete.”

“Not really. I like to work out, keep in shape. It’s calming for me, I guess.” He smiled softly, blushing a bit when he noticed her staring at his forearms. She cleared her throat, and grabbed a paper off of the coffee table in front of her, fanning herself lightly.

“Anyway, you sent me your resume and I looked into your references already. I don’t really need the weekend to make a decision because everyone gave you rave reviews. We’ll give it a trial run for…two weeks? See if the two of you fit. You said the only day you aren’t available is on weekends, right?” She asked.

“I have my dance classes on the weekends, but if you needed me to I could just bring him with me. He’d probably have fun.” Shownu suggested and she nodded. She looked him over, biting her lip and obviously thinking hard. 

“Ok, well, I think everything is settled then. You’ll start Monday. I’ll have everything ready for you. His schedules and stuff like that.” 

“Thank you. I appreciate this chance, really.” Shownu released a heavy breath, feeling some of his burdens lighten already. He got up, gesturing for her to go ahead of him and they walk back to the door. As he passed by the staircase, he saw the big pair of brown eyes watching him from around the corner. He winked at him and heard a cute little giggle. 

Y/N swung open the front door for him and he smiled at her as he zipped his jacket up. 

“Will I be meeting your husband on Monday as well? I just realized I hadn’t heard of him yet.” 

Y/N’s frowned, scrunching up her face. “That’s because he’s not in the picture. We were divorced when Jae was a baby. You don’t have to worry about him.” 

He felt like an ass. 

“Sorry. I probably shouldn’t have said anything.” He apologized softly. 

She shook her head. “No, it’s a natural thing to question. I’ll see you on Monday. It was a pleasure meeting you, Hyunwoo.” She reached her hand out and Shownu grasped it. Her’s was small and soft, wrapped completely in his large hand. He barely stopped himself from brushing his thumb across the back of her hand. Looking up, they locked eyes before his dropped to her lips. Never before had he felt so drawn to someone. 

Shownu cleared his throat and dropped her hand, thinking he was coming off rather creepy. He smiled one last time and nodded before rushing outside. He made it to the bottom step before he realized that he hadn’t heard the door close. He looked back and she was still standing at the door, watching him leave. He could see the blush when she’d realized he’d stopped, and she sent him a quick wave before practically slamming the door shut. 

Monday couldn’t get here fast enough.

“You got a what?” Kihyun growled. 

“A job. A nanny job specifically.” Shownu answered as he sprawled across his bed, scrolling through his phone for nanny tips. 

“What the hell are we going to do around here. You’re the President. The FATHER. I can’t do this by myself!” 

“I’m not moving in there. I’ll still be attending my classes and coming home every night. I’ll just be there from when classes are over at noon to whenever she gets off work.” Shownu snapped.

“Don’t get pissy with me. because I cook the food…and I could technically poison you.” Kihyun stood glaring down at him. Shownu sighed and set his phone down. 

“Look, this is for the good of everyone. Without the proper funding, we have no groceries or money for activities. Without activities, we’ll have no pledges. With no pledges, we’ll have no house. With no house, we’ll lose our brothers. I know we’re at each other’s throats right now, but I love all you guys and I don’t want to lose the house.” 

Kihyun sighed and patted Shownu’s shoulder, pausing when they heard whispers on the other side of the door. He rolled his eyes and silently walked over and flung the door open. Minhyuk and Wonho crumbled onto the floor. 

“Were you expecting something interesting?” Kihyun droned. 

“Just seeing what Mom and Dad were up to.” Wonho lisped cutely, sending them both a finger heart from his awkward spot on the floor. 

Minhyuk was frowning, however, an odd enough occurrence that Shownu felt the need to comment on it. 

“What’s the matter, Min?” 

“I didn’t realize things were so serious. I feel bad now. Maybe I should get a job too.” 

Shownu shook his head. “No, you guys need to focus on studies. If you really want to help, start coming up with ideas for fundraisers and a way to gain pledges.” 

Minhyuk saluted him cheekily.

“So, what’s the family like? Do they seem nice?” Wonho asked.

“Yeah. Single mom, toddler boy. Seems like a cute kid.” 

“Single, huh? Is she hot?” Kihyun grinned. 

Shownu didn’t answer, but the blush on his face seemed to give it away.

“OMG, she totally is. Shownu’s got the hots for a mom. He’s going to be the cliche Nanny sleeps with the parent!” Minhyuk giggles. 

“Shut up, guys. I have to study.” Shownu tried to block out the three monsters. 

“What’s going on in here?” Hyungwon pokes his head in the room, observing the giggling men.

Make that four monsters.

“Oh, nothing much. Shownu got a nanny job. And he’s totally in love with the Mom.” Kihyun grinned.

“Oh shit. Are you guys going to do the frick frack?” Hyungwon laughed.

“No.”

“The crickety crack?” Wonho chimes in.

“Stop.”

“The thingamabob? The slip n’ slide? The shake and bake?” Minhyuk giggles.

“I swear to god!”

Shownu got up and shoved them all into the hallway before slamming and locking his door. 

He slumped back down onto his bed, resuming his search for how to be a Nanny. He could still hear them whispering outside of his door. He smiled and shook his head.

He loved the monsters, he really did.

REVIEWING THE CHARTS: 28th July 2019

This is going to be pretty short and rushed I imagine, but we’ll see.

Top 10

Now, we have a funny top four, similarly to last week, full of Ed Sheeran, but not at our top spot, as “Senorita” by Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello is back at #1 for a second week after our number-two took it last week.

Our number-two, by the way, down one spot from last week, is “Beautiful People” by Ed Sheeran featuring Khalid. Now, the rest of the top four is Ed Sheeran.

First of all, at number-three, we have “I Don’t Care” featuring Justin Bieber returning at number-three, which, due to nonsensical chart rules, must be some kind of record for highest re-entry ever on the chart. We’ll talk about this more in the dropouts section.

Oh, yeah, and to my surprise, “Cross Me”, also by Ed Sheeran, featuring Chance the Rapper and PNB Rock is not moving at number-four. I figured this one would be in freefall.

Thanks to a Justin Bieber remix, and well, not much else, Billie Eilish’s “bad guy” is up eleven spaces to number-five? I’m puzzled about this one, honestly, if anyone could tell me what happened here I’d appreciate it; this should be floundering in the top 30 right now.

Thanks to the rise of “bad guy”, however, Lewis Capaldi’s “Hold Me While You Wait” is down a spot to number-six. Please drop off quicker, I’m begging you.

Also down a single spot on the chart is AJ Tracey’s “Ladbroke Grove” at number-seven.

Eilish claims another victim as MIST and Fredo’s “So High” is also down one spot to number-eight. Don’t worry, all of these songs will rebound.

Oh, and “Wish You Well” by Sigala and Becky Hill is also down a space to number-nine, but I’m still disputing the fact that song exists.

The #10 spot is, once again, held by Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, Young Thug, Mason Ramsey and now that guy from BTS. Congratulations on a record-breaking 17th week at #1 in the US, but here in Britain, it seems oddly stable at #10, I expect streaming cuts to kill it any time now.

Climbers

Freya Ridings’ “Castles” is up eight more spaces off the debut two or so weeks ago, entering the top 20 at #18 and becoming her second ever single to chart there. I’m not complaining, it’s a pretty good song. Outside of the top 20, we have only one other gain here, and that’s “Ritual” by Tiesto, Jonas Blue and Rita Ora gaining more traction than I expected 12 spaces up to #28. I hope this doesn’t reach the top 20, it’s pretty trite and honestly would make an awful fit for Ora’s next album whenever in the next decade that comes out.

Fallers

We have plenty of these, however. First of all, “Goodbyes”  by Post Malone and Young Thug continues its unfortunate slow-burning dive down five spots to #17, with “Someone You Loved” close in front by Lewis Capaldi at #19, thankfully down five spaces from last week. It’s not fast enough, but I’m just glad this is on its way out. D-Block Europe’s “Home” is down five to #25 after surprisingly staying pretty stable on its second week. The biggest surprise here, yet at the same time not a surprise to me at all, is Krept & Konan’s “I Spy” with Headie One and K-Trap collapsing down 14 positions to #32. While most British trap has a pretty short chart run, I at least expected this to last longer than any given D-Block Europe song. Oh, and “One Touch” by Jess Glynne and Jax Jones is on its way out down seven spots to #35 after pretty much flopping, especially considering it’s a Glynne lead single.

Dropouts & Returning Entries

Thanks to a nonsensical UK chart rule that to be fair made sense for situations like an Ed Sheeran album bomb, “Take Me Back to London” featuring Stormzy disappears entirely from its number-three debuts last week, and was replaced by “I Don’t Care”, which dropped out from #2 last week. It must be really confusing for those who don’t know all the chart rules to see stuff like this. Elsewhere, we have a couple dropouts so the new arrivals can move in, with “Bounce Back” by Little Mix proving that the damage control single doesn’t work, after dropping out of the top 40 in its sixth week from #34. Miley Cyrus’ “Mother’s Daughter” is out from #36, which isn’t a surprise, and neither is “Love of My Life” by Remedee, Not3s and Young Adz dropping out off the debut at #37. Young Thug’s “The London” with J. Cole and Travis Scott is also out from #38 and since we have no returning entries, let’s get straight to the new arrivals.

NEW ARRIVALS

#40 – “RAN$OM” – Lil Tecca

Produced by Nick Mira and Taz Taylor – Peaked at #11 in Canada and #19 in the US

I really did not want to talk about this song. This is... “Lil Tecca”’s first UK Top 40 hit (Yes, that is his name, it’s dreadful) and the 16-year-old’s first major-label single. He has like eight songs out and he’s essentially a younger, less interesting or even convincing A Boogie wit da Hoodie clone. A Boogie even has a song called “Ransom” that sparked a lot of buzz in him back when he started out. Some may say it’s the melodic New York trap scene repeating itself, I say it’s a clear “Homage” (Read: trend-hopping and copying another rapper for the sake of this complete nobody getting a lot bigger, especially now he has a label behind him). Nobody is talking about how he’s probably some kind of industry plant because nobody cares about the person, Lil Tecca, they care about the song, “Ransom”. This guy has no star power at all or even any potential as a legitimately interesting artist. Okay, let’s stop stalling and get to the meat and potatoes of this song, which are that hook and that video. The video, while uninteresting, was directed by Cole Bennett of Lyrical Lemonade and hence propelled the song to, you know, any sense of popularity, which it wouldn’t have gathered before at all, at least not to the heights of a worldwide smash and top 20 hit in the US. God, this guy infuriates me. I’m definitely going to talk about this song a bit more in January, if you catch my drift, but essentially, this song is melodic trap boiled down to its essence, with a Lil Tjay type beat carrying a Juice WRLD type rapper. There’s one barely-a-verse which lasts about 24 seconds, but the issue is the song is two minutes and 11 seconds long, and, yes, that chorus is infectious but not nearly as powerful as he thinks it is to carry the song for this long, especially since he has no charisma. It sounds like a Python programme wrote and performed a rap song, it really is some of the most monotonous, non-descript garbage to come out of SoundCloud rap. I hate this, it’s definitely on my worst list for 2019, and next!

#38 – “Sorry” – Joel Corry

Is it bad that my first observation about this song is that some rapper is going to mention this in a sappy out-of-character love ballad? I mean, think about it, “Sorry” and Joel Corry rhyme. It’s going to happen. Anyway, who’s Joel Corry, you ask? Good question. His Wikipedia page or lack thereof redirects me to a record label called Ostereo which seems pretty successful, and they have a tiny paragraph on Corry. Apparently, he started establishing himself as a DJ on the MTV reality show Jersey Shore. This isn’t looking great, I know, but bear with me, he’s also a body-builder and now presents a radio show on KISS FM. Okay, so, really, much like Lil Tecca, he’s a complete nobody who got picked up by some big label who couldn’t care less about artistic intent, except this is a little more intriguing, considering Ostereo is an independent label and Joel Corry is a DJ, so I’m assuming it’s EDM and I’m right, but it seems snipped from a DJ set. You can tell in the intro, it sounds like the end of a song and an abrupt bleep transition, maybe that’s just for artistic effect but it doesn’t sound great. This is pretty standard deep pop-house, with an unnamed female vocalist singing over a lot of snare and keys, with plenty orchestral stabs to remind you a song is playing. Albeit oddly-mixed at times, the build-up is pretty affective, the drums sound cheap as hell though, as does that drop, it’s really anti-climactic and doesn’t really work at all. The final build-up and drop is admittedly pretty epic though, it gets rid of the anti-climactic minimalism and leaves just a club-ready synth melody over a lot of strings, it sounds really cool is what I’m saying. The build-up itself is manic as well, very interesting, and the singer seems to be a sample from Monsta Boy’s “Sorry! (I Didn’t Know)” featuring Denzie, and, yes, I know samples aren’t typically considered guest spots but the female vocalist is instrumental to this song and its success so surely a featured credit wouldn’t hurt. It’s not Denzie, and by the way, this is so much better than that Monsta Boy song thanks to how Denzie is one of the most incompetent singers known to man, and this female vocalist is actually pretty talented despite singing the exact same lyrics, and referencing Brandy, as in “The Boy is Mine” Brandy, which was unexpected. I’ve searched it up and I can’t find her anywhere, not even on the Genius page, so to me this is just a bit of a douche move.

Edit: I’ve done some extra research and the vocalist is Hayley May. It’s also from the Love Island soundtrack apparently, which makes me like the song a lot less on principle. I’d love to see more from May though, she doesn’t even have a writing credit on this song.

#36 – “Hate Me” – Ellie Goulding and Juice WRLD

Produced by Jason Evigan and The Monsterz & the Strangerz – Peaked at #18 in Hungary and #82 in the US

Oh, Ellie Goulding exists. Yeah, I forgot about that. Listen, I don’t hate Ellie Goulding, far from it, I think she’s fine, but at least lately after about 2015 or so, she has not been nearly as interesting as I want her to be, especially because the songwriting chops are definitely there. When I saw her collaborate with emo-rapper Juice WRLD of all people, I knew this would be far from interesting or good so I’m honestly starting to lose hope in that upcoming album, especially since her other singles “Sixteen” and “Close to Me” were far from special. This is Goulding’s 22nd(!) UK Top 40 hit and Juice WRLD’s third, and, yeah, this isn’t great. That hook is really desperate and this would work if her delivery wasn’t bratty and the lyrics really don’t fit and it feels very cluttered and rushed, like they’re just trying to get it over with... which makes sense, I mean that’s the topic of the song but it’s not convincing, because she wants an answer and she wants it quick, so she’d stop at nothing, surely, but the song’s really short and doesn’t really have any lasting impact. Juice WRLD doesn’t freaking exist, gladly, he doesn’t even join in with the chorus really, which by the third repetition gets really aggravating. The production is an airy mess with trap percussion and cloudy synths that cover Juice WRLD’s vocoder-fuelled performance to the point of not being able to recognise him. It’s not good at all, but I feel it’s just tolerable and bland enough for me to not dislike it. I never thought I’d say this, but Lil Peep did it better.

#12 – “How Do You Sleep?” – Sam Smith

Produced by Ilya – Peaked at #4 in Singapore and #29 in the US

Sam Smith’s second single from this upcoming new album and era, after the success of “Dancing with a Stranger” with Normani, seems to be a lot more energetic especially in comparison with his other two albums he’s released. He seems to have ditched the shoddy pop-soul and has gone straight into more danceable territory, which I’m not complaining about. I loved him on “Latch” and “La La La”, and thought “Dancing with a Stranger” was pretty cool, but other than that there’s not a single song by Smith that I like. Anyway, this is his 14th UK Top 40 hit, and you know what, it’s not bad at all. I love the twinkling synths that carry the song’s main melody, they’re cute but paired with trap percussion and intense sub bass can come off as both oddly sinister as well as infatuated, fitting with the content and subject matter of this song, in which Smith questions how his partner sleeps when he has Smith tangled in a toxic relationship which he can’t get out of, and that “love will keep them up tonight”. I love the second verse, where Smith admits he’s lost himself in his relationship through his subtly Auto-Tuned vocals that are still pretty impressive. The chorus is incredibly catchy while still being powerful and despite all this, that drop kind of sucks. After a great vocoder vocal bridge, the drop is really weak and squeaky, especially with that screechy synth tone, which doesn’t sound as melodramatic or pained as the rest of the song, and instead sounds incredibly lazy. It might grow on me, as the weeping of the drop is kind of humorous right now but could easily fit in with the song’s overall tone and mood, but we’ll see. Overall, this song surprised me, it’s actually really good bar from the trap and EDM elements possibly bogging it down a bit, I think Smith’s songwriting is definitely what shines here instead of Ilya’s production, which is disappointing since I usually love his production.

Conclusion

Yeah, I’m shocked too, but Best of the Week goes to Sam Smith for “How Do You Sleep?”, and Honourable Mention is reluctantly going to “Love Island anthem”, “Sorry” by Joel Corry featuring Hayley May, even if it’s not all that good, only decent. Dishonourable Mention is going to Ellie Goulding and Juice WRLD for “Hate Me” because of course it is, and Worst of the Week should be pretty damn obvious, it’s Lil Tecca’s for “RAN$OM”. Part 3: Bullshit, bullshit, and.. oh look, more bullshit.

“That feels so good!” The girl beneath Hoseok moaned for what seemed like the millionth time that night. She was entirely too loud for his liking, but she had a nice face and a decent body. Besides, how loud she gets doesn't matter. So long as the boys don’t realize he's left the club early and decide to come looking for him, everything will be fine.

“Hoseok!” Hyunwoo’s angry voice yells through the small apartment the slam of the door echoing behind him

Did he just jinx himself? Seriously what are the chances, they've got to be slim to none. Hoseok quickly jumps from his position and throws a cover over the girl whose name he's a little bit too drunk to remember. Doesn't matter anyway, he probably won't be seeing her again.

“Heeeey hyung!” Hoseok slurs when Hyunwoo’s massive figure come into view. He tries his best to play up his drunkenness in hopes he’ll be cut a bit of slack.

“Cut the shit.We heard her from the hallway, you're completely naked, and there's a human shaped lump under your cover.” Hyunwoo sighs.

Hoseok’s face falls. Hiding the girl under his cover probably wasn't the best idea but thinking on his toes when drunk isn't really one of his strong suits. Hell had he been a bit more coherent and had the girl he was sleeping with not been so loud, he might've heard the door opening and thought to get dressed and hide her in a closet or under a desk. Speaking of said girl… after realizing her cover had been blown she flung the hot material from her naked body and stood proudly showing off her figure.

“Why?” Hyunwoo sighs again looking back and forth between Hoseok and the girl.

“She kicked me in my dick! I had to make sure it was still working properly!” Hoseok explains.

It was true to a certain extent. You had kicked him so hard he was worried his dick would stop working, but he'd quickly disproved that theory 10 minutes later in your bathroom.

“You probably deserved it,” Hyunwoo said. “You don't think! You're in a public relationship! What if someone had seen you take this girl home? What if she decides to go tell?”

“She's not gonna tell. Isn't that right sweetheart?” Hoseok coos at the still naked girl.

“Right! He explained everything.” She beams.

“Oh, he did?” Hyunwoo asks crossing his arms.

“Yeah. He was going to break up with her but they got outed. So he has to stay awhile longer. He really wants to be with me though. I just can't tell anyone about us.” She smiles looking at Hoseok.

Hoseok has a proud smile on his face, clearly, his explanation was impenetrable and no one would ever find out about this night's small escapade.

“You're a fucking idiot,” Hyungwon mumbles walking into the room and plopping down on a bed. “Can you get her out? I'm actually really tired.”

“The hell did you just say?” Hoseok asks, turning to face the younger man.

“Get her out.” Hyungwon repeats.

Hoseok scoffs, “You've been really disrespectful lately, you know that?” He says and moves toward him.

“Cut it out,” Hyunwoo says grabbing Hoseok's shoulder and stopping his attack. “Both of you. Hoseok, get the girl out of the here. Seriously, stop bringing them to the apartment.”

“Yeah, yeah,” Hoseok says waving his arm. “Come on baby girl, you've got to get dressed.”

The girl pouts but picks up her dress and underwear.

“Don't walk her down. That's how you and your girlfriend got caught.” Hyungwon warns.

“He’s still naked,” Changkyun says shaking his head from the doorway.

Hoseok looked down to see that he was indeed still naked. No more drunk sex. It's confusing and un-enjoyable.

Monday’s… The start of a new week but everything is kept the same for you. You're washed, fed, and out of the door at the same time, you are every other day.

“Hey, honey.” The librarian greets you with a smile as you walk in.

“Hey,” you wave back and stop at her desk. “Um… if that guy comes, can you just show him where I am?”

She crinkles her nose, “I don't like him for you.”

“Honestly I don't like him that much either.” You say and it makes the librarian laugh.

You're being honest. Although you're not exactly sure what, something about him rubs you the wrong way. It could be all the innuendos and his flirtatious behaviors. It's not something that you aren't used to. You've dated before and dealt with guys who were a bit similar but Hoseok seems to be an entirely different ballpark. It's the handsome aspect. The men you'd dated before weren't nearly as good looking as he is. They were horny high school boys with patchy beards and squeaky voices trying to get their nut off, at the time. You'd seen pictures posted on Facebook and Instagram showing how they'd grown up. A few of them were already married. Some of them had a kid or two. Most of them were in stable high paying jobs and constantly venting about their bosses or coworkers giving them shit. All of them looked nowhere near as handsome as Hoseok.

You'll give credit where it's due. The man has a smile that lights up a room and a body carved by Ancient Greek sculptors. He's a spectacle, a sight for sore eyes, simply put… he's fine as hell. He makes everyone around him look like Gollum in comparison. This could quickly become two pages about how attractive he is, so let's stop here.

You're already terrible at socializing. Long talks about life and actually getting to know people just isn't something for you, but it's a million times worse in his presence. Your mouth dries up, you can't look him in the eyes, and you fiddle with your fingers in your lap, snagged fabric from your sweaters takes longer to get rid of, and you suddenly realize how much you're in need of a manicure. It's only like that with him. Although you don't socialize you still know how to… well enough not to make yourself look like a fool. But socializing with Hoseok makes you look like a complete fucking idiot. You hate it. You hate talking to him.

You move toward to back of the library and wait for it to turn 9:15 so you could start your trip to your Psych class. Usually, you'd review work from Wednesday to refresh your memory, but today you can't seem to get yourself to focus. Saturday at your place with Hoseok… ugh!! You dropped your head feeling guilty. Of course, he'd been joking, girls flocked to him like birds to warm weather. Why on earth would he try to make a move on you? It was illogical. You didn't realize how much it would hurt him either. With your nervousness, you hadn't even measured the strength of your kick and just swung your foot forward. You kept giving the excuse of “it couldn't hurt that bad” to which Hoseok would shoot you a meaningful glare and hiss: “Shut up. I'm pretty sure you broke my dick.”

You shook your leg anxiously, worried about his health. Before you knew it your phone was vibrating with your alarm. You quickly packed up and made your way to class.

According to your plan, stares to the back of your head during class should have died down quite a bit. But as you sit in you psych class, you feel more eyes on you than ever. You think maybe it'll just take a little while longer for people to get over the news, but it happens all day long. Throughout campus, people will look at you and whisper to their friends. Some laugh, some shake their heads, and others just stare. Point is… everyone is looking. This isn't normal. Something had to have happened. You pull out your phone and press the internet app for the first time in 4 days. As soon as you hit enter for your search of ‘Monsta X Wonho’ news articles from portal sites flood the page.

“Wonho Cheating on Girlfriend”

“So let me get this straight.” Mary starts as she packs a box full of male clothes she has laying around her house. “He's paying you $10,000 dollars to be his ‘girlfriend’ for six months?”

“Yeah. Apparently, people would flip shit if they ever found out the reason he was really outside. Shirtless. At eleven o’clock.” You squint and take another shot of the alcohol Mary has so kindly laid out in front of you.

“He's a hoe,” Mary says. “And a stupid one at that. He should've known better than to sleep with a fan. There's no way in hell she's keeping that a secret. She wants to rub it in every other fans face like ‘I got oppa’s dick and you didn't!’ That type of thing.”

You had to agree. He's a dumbass. Obviously, you two aren't in an actual relationship but the rules of one still stood. And if he was going to cheat on you, he should've been way more careful as to not be caught.

“So, why do you need the clothes?” Mary asks as she throws a hoodie into the cardboard box.

“Got to make the breakup convincing.” You say and take another shot.

“That why you're getting drunk too?”

You nod, “I don't play a very convincing heartbroken drunk girl. I should at least be one of the two.”

Mary laughs, “Well I've found about as much as I can. The guy the belong to won't miss then so just… do as you please.”

For once in this whole elaborate ass plan, you hadn't thought everything out. Going to his apartment while you're drunk and handing him back his things would make a great story for any portal site and the news of your breakup would spread relatively fast. Problem is… you know the complex, just not the apartment number. Also… you're pretty shitfaced right now.

“Hoseok! Shin Hoseok!” You call as you stumble through the hallway the big box of clothes larger than you had expected it to be. “Shin Hoseok! You no good cheater, bring your ass out here!”

“Hey lady, shut the hell up!” A voice calls to you.

“You shut the hell up, I'm trying to find my boyfriend. Shin Hoseok!!!!” You yell.

A hand grabs your forearm and pulls you back. “Oh gosh, you're actually drunk.” The voice says.

You pout and look up to see a rather handsome guy staring at you. His face looks familiar but you can't exactly pinpoint where you've seen it before.

“Fourth floor. Apartment 426. Waking our entire apartment building isn't a very good idea.” He says and pulls you to the nearest elevator.

“Hey…” you start and blink a few times to focus your eyesight. “Do I know you?”

“You should. You're dating one of my members.”

“Ah! You're in Monsta X! I knew you looked familiar. Hey, did I seem brokenhearted enough? I'm too drunk to tell.” You admit.

He laughs, “It was an award-winning performance.” He says just as the elevator dings. You chuckle and make your way into the hall.

“Shin Hoseok you shithead!” You yell charging toward the end of the hall in search of apartment 426.

“It's right here!” The members voice calls and you quickly turn around and run toward him. He laughs and punches in the code to enter. You barge in behind him.

“Shin Hoseok!” You call and once again the member beside you laughs.

Hoseok’s head pops up from the sofa. “What are you doing here?” He questions as he stands and makes his way toward you.

“Saving face. I came to break up.” You say and push the box in his direction. “I figured bringing a box of your stuff would be convincing so I asked Mary for some help.” You pause and look up at him. “Let's break up.”

Hoseok smirks, “Sure okay. Let's break up.”

“I think you owe me something. Cash or check is fine.” You say and hold out your hand.

“What do I owe you?” He questions with a confused expression.

“The money you promised me for playing along.”

He laughs, “I said six months! If you think I'm paying you $10,000 for 4 days, you've lost your mind. In fact, you should probably be paying me… for breach of the contract or something!”

“It was a verbal agreement dumbass! And that's not fair! I would've done the full 6 months but you got caught cheating!” You whine.

“Yeah, I slipped up. But you're good at solving problems like this. You knew what would happen and what sites would report each day of our relationship. There has to be some situation in a book you've read before to fix this. I can't have the public hating me.”

You sigh, “I just came for the money.”

“You're not getting a cent from me until six months of us dating has passed.”

Bullshit.

“I suggest you start thinking of ways to get us both out of this.”

Bullshit.

“I'm serious. If you end things now I'm not giving you anything.”

MONSTA X ‘Beautiful’ Comeback Review

It has been three weeks that MONSTA X finally released their first studio album and unfortunately the promotions are almost over. The Clan Part 2.5, which is the final chapter in this series, is a very refreshing and colorful album. Their title track, Beautiful, brings a new style to MONSTA X where they drop the heavy and powerful concept, just like their coats, and instead, they show their sensitive and irresistible sides even more. There are many great symbols and creativity in this comeback, which I would like to break down, so keep on reading if you are interested!

MUSIC VIDEO Although I was waiting for a music video that follows a similar plot line and setting as All In and Fighter, this time we got something more aesthetic and less narrative like video. Though, if you want to search for connections to the whole Clan concept, you can easily find them especially in the symbol of the blue flower. I love the music video because it is true to the whole Beautiful concept as the creators did so many artistic choices. The cinematography is incredible with the vivid colors but then with the black and white shots as well. Each of the members have their own settings and symbols, which I really liked. I think we can agree that again Jooheon is in the center of power especially in the shot where he is walking up and down on a hallway where the members are behind closed doors, but then they join him. This can be a connection back to the whole Clan concept and we could go more in depth, but I just mainly wanted to highlight the technical points of the video. I also enjoyed the shots where they were dancing the choreography of Beautiful and they were in a big open space on a small platform. In different shots, the colors changed and even the black and white scenes had different tones. I could watch this music video forever because every time I discover something new. 

BEAUTIFUL TITLE TRACK  Most of their title track songs for MONSTA X were a bit heavier in sound and in rap, especially in choreography where they showed their strength and brought a powerful performance. However, Beautiful has more of a sensible side regardless of the lit rap parts from Jooheon and I.M. 

The line distribution seems fair at this time, as Hyungwon (who got the least lines in almost every comeback) had a fair amount of share in singing. Besides he also became sort of the center and the symbol of this comeback. It is also said that Shownu actually sacrificed some of his lines for Hyungwon, which is a very leader-like thing to do and I was impressed when I read about that. What I also really like is how Minhyuk gets the ‘so beautiful’ part as later in the performance we can see that he gets an important center role during those parts. I actually liked the lyrics and this whole symbolism with the rose. But as there is a big part of the rose in the lyrics and even in the choreography, to me that was lacking in the overall music video and in the whole Clan concept. If that blue flower would be more like a rose or if they would have just made this comeback separate from the Clan series, then it would make more sense and would have been perfect. But this is only a side note from my critical and artistic self, so it doesn’t take away anything from the overall comeback. 

STAGE PERFORMANCE  I was probably the most impressed with the choreography for Beautiful. There are so many clever elements to it that when I saw it for the first time I was like ‘hell yeah!’. Some of my favorite parts from the choreo is when Kihyun has a center role while singing and when it’s Wonho’s turn he sort of passes onto him the role of a center dancer. (I mean I love Kiho in general… ) But what I liked the most is how they dance with their coats and when they get into that sort of V formation, first Minhyuk throws his coat in the audience (yeah boy) and then the others pass their coats back to each other while the last two throws them away. I think that is very creative in the choreo and makes it so much more exciting. 

Then the end pose is very clever too when Hyungwon’s two hands and I.M’s one hand creates a rose. But first I didn’t know how Hyungwon got three hands so I had to replay that part haha. I really like their stages as it’s clean and simple, but their outfits bring a nice color in the performance.

I also just want to mention I love how they shared a few weeks with GOT7 so we could see their interactions, like when they had a moment together at the monitoring of Show! Music Core. I live for GOT7 x MONSTA X friendship, and I wish that there weren’t some people in each fandoms who make it harder to be peaceful and to show an example to other fandoms. 

ALBUM + ACOUSTIC VERSION

I truly love this album so much. First I was outraged because of the three different versions and how we need to buy more albums in one version just so the transparent photocards can make sense, but overall I really like the album design. I own the Beside version because I just HAD TO get those couple pictures. I mean I live for mom and dad Showki and hands down Minhyuk and Hyungwon make one hell of a visual (and kinky) couple. I was even more ecstatic when I got Jooheon in the regular photocard version, who was my first MONSTA X bias and he is still really high up on the list of biases haha. 

As of the songs, my top 5+1 bonus looks like this:

1. Need U 2. Miss You 3. Beautiful 4. All I Do 5. 5:14 (Last Page) + I’ll Be There

(Yes, as you can see I’m more of the calmer romantic type lol)

I want to especially mention Wonho who worked a lot on this album as he contributed in both Last Page and I’ll Be There. In I’ll Be There he helped all in with the lyrics, composing, and arranging. I’m really proud of him and I’m sure this is just the beginning and in the future, he will work even more on his own songs that will make it to their albums! 

Also, let’s not forget about Beautiful acoustic version that made a total twist in the whole meaning of the song and we even saw the boys cry, especially Wonho. I don’t know whose idea was that, but that person surely wanted to see heartbroken Monbebes crying all over the internet. Way to hurt innocent hearts!

But we got many great things as the boys appeared on Weekly Idol, and a day ago they were guests on After School Club. They also had a cute pajama party episode in the New Yang Nam Show. They also gifted us with video chat calls on V-Live and aesthetic pictures both on Twitter and on the Fancafe. MONSTA X boys surely know how to do fanservice well and show love for the fans.

STREAMING AND WINNING - MONBEBE DON’T BE SAD Monbebes were very positive that this comeback will bring the greatly anticipated first win for MONSTA X. Myself too was very looking forward to it and although we haven’t achieved the win yet, the boys got to break new personal records. To them, even the nomination on music shows was enough, but we know that they deserve so much more.

I procrastinated a lot on watching No Mercy because as my friend said it is such an emotional roller coaster, I was afraid to go through it. But I still did by the time they started the promotions. Watching them go through all those struggles in the show and so many humiliations and heartbreak at some times, I got a lot more motivated on helping them win their first award. I think we started to work great well together and it seems like the fandom grew bigger with this comeback. I know we all love our boys and we want the best for them, but it seems like we still need a little more time and a bit bigger fandom to make this work. The boys know we work hard and the moment they will get their first win, it will be a lot more meaningful achievement in their lives as they waited so long for it.

So don’t be discouraged Monbebes. Even our Kihyunie said so that we shouldn’t be. If this comeback won’t bring the win for them, I’m sure at least this year they will get it. Beautiful promotion was a great beginning for getting even more recognition and showing another side of MONSTA X. From here, things will only get better!

alright well, today was WILD. mostly in a good way, lol. I originally had my alarm set for 9:30 am with the intention of meeting Jess for brunch at 10. She was taking the day off from work because tickets for the KPop band’s she’s like the most into (aka Monsta X (MX) they’ll be talked about a lot today) concert was going on sale today and given our past experience trying to buy tickets for similar concerts (read: bad) we knew we were gonna have to try really hard for these, so we had a whole plan laid out. But when my alarm went off I had a message from Jess saying she got a note to be waiting for a package till like 10:30, so I went back to sleep until like 10 at which point I got up and got dressed to head out. We were gonna go to the vegetarian place but when I walked out to the street the intersection going to main street was like, completely blocked off, sidewalks and all, so I’d have to have gone one block west and then south and the east to actually get to main street, and instead of doing that we said fuck it we’d just go to the usual place that was like two blocks west of the intersection, so we met there instead and had brunch. Once we finished we returned to my apartment, the two goals for the day were to get caught up on tv shows we were behind on (Supergirl and Arrow in this case) and get tickets. So we started with Supergirl and watched the last 4 episodes of that, I’d seen the last two but not the two before that and Jess hadn’t seen any of them so we just watched them all through. We started getting geared up for the ticket purchasing, I think I explained this before but I don’t expect everyone to read every post so I’ll explain it again, basically ten minutes before the tickets are set to go on sale you can join a “pre-queue” and when it turns to the time everyone in the pre-queue is randomly placed in line, with anybody joining the queue after that goes to the end. The default position tends to be “2,000+ in front of you” which can differ widely because the venues for the smaller bands are like 3,000 seats whereas the big groups like BTS were playing in the fucking football stadium with like 50,000 seats, so 2,000 in front has a very different context depending on the size of the place. But you get advanced in line wherever you were placed it’ll start moving up and eventually get you to under 2,000 and then let you in, at which point you have to pick your tickets and pay for them, but there are a bunch of other people in there at the same time trying to pick tickets, so it can be kinda difficult to find ones that someone else didn’t just grab. so to give ourselves the best chances of getting this we had created multiple accounts so we could have the queue up in multiple windows in hope that it would give us a better chance of getting one placed further up in the queue. The tickets went on sale at 4 pm local time of the concert, and we were gonna try for New York tickets at 3 pm our time (because my parents live there and it’s always an easy excuse for a trip) with potentially looking at Atlanta at the same time, and then when it hit 4 for us we’d try for Chicago. So this whole time Jess is a giant ball of nerves and just generally freaking out, because yes she wants tickets, but she really wants the VIP tickets that let you actually meet the band and you can do this thing called “hi-touch” which is basically high fiving them from what I understand, but of course there are very few of those tickets and it was all up to the randomized queue. so I’m sitting there with my two laptops open and two windows open on each where Jess has ones on her laptop and her phone. It turns 3 pm and all of the windows refresh.....all of them are 2,000+. damn. the New York theatre has a capacity of 5,600 (I just looked that up, but that’s about what I thought at the time) so it’s no football stadium but the Chicago venue was only like 4,400 (again, just looked that up) so we potentially had a better shot in NY but there would probably also be more people trying for tickets. So we’re sitting there hoping for our things to advance, and one of my windows, the one attached to my main account starts moving forward slowly but surely (or quicker than any of the others at least) and around 3:20 we get inside, at which point we were able to grab like second tier tickets, which were good, but of course didn’t include the hi-touch Jess really wanted so we’d grab the tickets for now (we could always resell them later, they’re going for a ton on stubhub right now) and see what happens in Chicago. The one browser we had up for Atlanta had just been a total bust so we ignored that one. so the hour advances and it gets closer to 4 and everyone is so anxious!!! but we got this, I know we do, and when it hits 4, to our amazement, my main account (again!) instead of showing up with 2,000+ showed “1″ for a second before immediately letting us into the tickets!! I was in beast mode at this point and just let my super fast reflexes do all the work and click in the right places as fast as I could and a few seconds later we had confirmed tickets that were- get this- not only ultimate VIP with the hi-touch and a bunch of other shit, but were actually IN THE FIRST FUCKING ROW, AND THEY WERE LITERALLY SEATS 1 AND 2. WE GOT THE FIRST TICKETS IN THE ENTIRE DAMN PLACE. And like we looked at the map of the venue and the front row has like two or three off to each side and then like 8 or so right in the center right in front of the stage and since we were 1 and 2 at first we thought we had one of the side ones....but nope, we were in that middle section (I’ll post the screenshot Jess took of them after this to give you a better idea if you’re having trouble picturing this). But yeah, basically we got the best damn tickets in the entire fucking theatre, and we were both pretty much just having meltdowns at this point (I mean, mostly Jess, but I was kinda freaking out too because this was nuts). And I was just like man, I knew we could do this, we put up with some much bullshit and failure with the other concerts that was so frustrating, but when it really counted with the favorite band in our city, we get the best seats IN THE FUCKING HOUSE. Because that’s how I roll, when I set my mind to something I get shit done, I don’t always know how but somehow it always gets done, and I knew we could do this and we did. So needless to say it was a very exciting afternoon, lol. We had been playing like episodes 3 and 4 of The Umbrella Academy during this mostly just as background noise because Jess hadn’t seen all of that yet but we weren’t paying much attention given everything that had just happened. So yeah, we freaked out for a bit, and then cemented our plans for the rest of the night (because if Chicago was a total failure we were gonna wait 2 hours and try for the LA show) and I then baked the angel food cake I wanted to make for my birthday because I always have angel food cake with whipped cream and strawberries for my birthday (given that I’ve rarely actually celebrated with my family on my actual birthday it’s usually not on the actual date, but as long as it happens) because it’s my favorite and what we always had when I was little and reminds me of my grandma and grandpa and just happy memories that weren’t corrupted by other bullshit. So I baked the cake and when it was done I figured out how to stick it upside down on a bottle (you have to cool it like that or it won’t come out of the pan, they’re complicated like that) we headed out for dinner, we were originally probably gonna order in but given all that had happened we wanted to celebrate a bit and we knew there was a Korean place a few blocks down that we hadn’t tried yet so we figured now would be the perfect time. So we get there and we’re trying to decipher the menu to the best of our ability lol but ended up asking our waiter for his thoughts with our given dietary restrictions and he was great and very helpful, everything was super delicious and very much enjoyed, and he was just really cool and awesome so I tipped him extra (and by that I mean like 30% because 25% is my default, so, we know how I feel about tipping waiters). so it was a very enjoyable meal, I took some home with me because I didn’t want to stuff myself too much and not be able to eat cake later, we’ll have to see if I end up eating my leftovers though because my acid reflux has been kinda bad tonight so I’m not sure if that’d be a good idea (it’s strange though because none of it was a typical trigger for me). We watched the second to last episode of Arrow and then I checked to see if the cake was fully cooled, then set it up with the whipped cream and strawberries and we ate cake (I made Jess eat a little but she doesn’t really like cake so I just let her eat the strawberries). so that was highly enjoyable as it always is for me. We then watched the most recent episode of Arrow, I had the benefit this time around of having listened to the “Quiver: The Green Arrow Podcast” review of the episode since I watched it the first time so I understood things a little better, they’re not always great at actually explaining concepts and fleshing them out in a way that makes a little comic book knowledge go very far in understanding where the show writers actually want to take you (and they just aren’t). For example, in the comics, the Ninth Circle (aka “the bad guys”) is actually like a supervillain bank that funds such evil operations, and that makes a hella lot more sense than the non-descriptions we’ve had of it up to this point. But anyway. Once we finished that it was like 9 pm so Jess headed home and I watched tonight’s episode of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend that I had forgotten about lol then just watched the news into Jimmy Kimmel  (it was an old episode though) before showering and starting to get ready for bed and now I am here. so yeah, big day to say the least. pretty wild I’d say, and I’m gonna be so thrown that today was only Friday and not Saturday lol and that we have Saturday as a whole other day tomorrow. The plan is to go up north to the Cheesecake Factory, we decided against seeing a movie because there really wasn’t anything we wanted to see (I’d have been fine seeing Captain Marvel again but Jess has already seen it twice and doesn’t really want to do it again which is valid). So we’ll just do Cheesecake Factory and shop, should be fun. It is 1 am now though and I should probably be getting to sleep if I want to get up and do things tomorrow (which I do) so I will call it a night here. Goodnight friends. Happy weekend.

“Get Away” by Seven O’Clock

Seven O’Clock has officially made a video featuring the newest member, Andy. Since Vaan’s departure, the group had released a song with the remaining five members. Now, they’ve welcomed a new member, Andy, who seems to be another vocalist. However, the MV left something to be desired and the group’s recent comebacks just haven’t been something I can truly enjoy. I’d easily give this comeback a 4/10 if there was a grading system.

Overall Sound

The song itself sound extremely nostalgic. You know those songs where companies will gather as many artists as possible to sing together for a good cause? Yeah, that’s what this sounds like. It can also be compared to an OST for a drama - loud, summer music but hard-to-hear lyrics that you may just plat in the background while characters shop. The music’s too loud, drowning out the vocals, and it doesn’t sound like most modern groups. Sometimes different is good, but I feel as though Seven O’Clock’s past two comebacks since signing their new company both sound too nostalgic and fail to fully realize the members’ potentials. Ultimately, the song doesn’t sound strong enough to stand on its own and it suffers because of that.

MV

Don’t watch the MV if you get dizzy easily. The camera changes too fast and it feels as though the person behind the camera couldn’t stop moving. A still camera can do wonders for an MV, especially when you’re going for more of an upbeat, summery sound. You don’t want the viewer to be unable to watch because you couldn’t stay still.

I’ll be honest, going into the video, I didn’t realize that it was the firs MV with Andy. As such, my first thought was that it felt like a debut video. The usage of the members’ names in the video is a great way to introduce fans, but it felt extremely broken up due to how the video was edited. Additionally, the heavy filtering made the boys look white as can be in some shots and then orange as...well, an orange in others. I understand wanting to add a filter to adjust for any inconsistency in filming time, but there is such a thing as filtering too much. I honestly felt as though the video was done by an amateur. It didn’t do any of the boys justice and there wasn’t enough solo-time for each member for fans to really get a taste of who their bias could be. It’s vital that, if you’re presenting an MV as a “re-debut” in this sort of style that fans really get time to know and love the members. If SEVENTEEN can do it with Mansae and 13 members, Seven O’Clock can do it with six.

Lyrics Meaning

It’s a bit of a confusing mess, these lyrics. It seems to be a breakup song, which is fine. I want to say it’s about being conflicted when you see your ex and realizing you still have feelings for them. It’s not something that’s often talked about, but I don’t know if the lyrics really fit the song’s sound. A breakup song should sound a bit more pained or dark. Not like you’re on the beach with your significant other and the relationship has never been better. It conflicts, to me, and makes it a bit harder to really focus on the lyrics when hearing the song.

Choreography

I feel as though Seven O’Clock’s choreography doesn’t do justice for the members. There isn’t enough focus on individual ability like other groups have. The dances are nostalgic, just like their sound. It’s mostly synchronized moves with the singer in the front. There’s nothing to really pull the viewer in and engage them. For example, Monsta X’s dances usually draw me across the stage and force you to keep your eyes peeled because I don’t necessarily know where the next person to sing/rap will pop up from. KNK’s dances move around a lot and find a way to lead the viewer’s eyes to the person singing at the time without always keeping them center. Even M.O.N.T, which is a trio manages to mix things up so the members aren’t just doing the exact same thing together.

I’m not saying I want them to go crazy. I’m just saying, have the members get on their knees around the rapper or something once in a while. When you’re from a small company, you have to try that much harder to stand out. Choreography and the music both must be unique. If you’re making yourself sound retro, at least stand out in terms of the choreography. I’d like to give them the benefit of the doubt since they have been going through a lot and Andy is a brand new member, but I’d have liked to see things mixed up a bit.

I’d listen to this song if I was...

The most I can think is the same scene I mentioned earlier: sitting on a beach. It’s a summer sounding song. However, the lyrics don’t speak to me. If you don’t know any Korean, I’m sure you can listen without an issue. However, knowing the lyrics is half the love I get from music, which is why I’ll often search them up. As such, this song is a niche listen.

You might like this song if you like...

This song has a nostalgic sound to it. As such, older songs such as “Hello” by SHINee would be great. Older songs by B1A4, like “Beautiful Target.” I’d also say “1 2 3 4 5 I Love You” by the Bottom Blues, which is a Thai song (featured in 2Moons). Overall, though, I can’t think of any breakup-sounding songs with this sound, which makes it hard to suggest any that are similar.

Final Words

I wanted to see great things from this group when I first got into them. However, I feel as though their roster is changing too much for fans to keep track of them. It’s as if each music video is a new group or a fresh debut. It’s hard to form a lasting love for the members when things get mixed up.

Additionally, I’ve seen many fans agree that the group should have a darker concept for their videos, as it suits them better. When Seven O’Clock debuted, they had this dark concept that fans fell in love with. It’s what drew many fans in. I don’t think this bright concept suits the group and it ostracizes fans who originally fell in love with the group’s original concept at their old company.

I also want to say...they should have added another rapper, not another vocalist. 5 vocalists to 1 rapper is too uneven. Andy is adorable and I definitely want him to succeed with the rest, but I would have added another rapper in addition or instead. It only adds to the old school sound of the song. I understand there’s not replacing Vaan and it could be a gamble, but I feel as though it’s just as big of one to not add another rapper since Hangyeom either has to do twice as much rapping or risk having a song that just doesn’t sound balanced.

Korean Survival Show

Selamat hari Minggu!

Jadi, hari ini aku gatel pengen cerita tentang ajang survival di Korea karena kemarin Mixnine akhirnya final dan Jinyoung debut:3 Yeay!

Mungkin kalau di Korea ini cuma ajang survival biasa. Cuma entah kenapa aku malah suka semua peserta yang ada di acara-acara ini. Malah kayak 1 grup menurutku sih. Perusak list bias memang wkwk

1. Produce 101 Season 1

Produce 101 Season 1 ini ajang survival yang tayang awal 2016 di channel Mnet.

Jadi disini ada 101 peserta dari berbagai perusahaan. Mereka ini bukan bentukan satu agensi gitu. Nanti dipilih 11 trainee untuk debut berjangka gitu.

Grup debutnya adalah I.O.I alias Ideal of Idol. Anggotanya ada Somi, Sejeong, Yoojung, Chungha, Sohye, Kyulkyung, Chaeyeon, Doyeon, Mina, Nayoung, dan Yeonjung. Mereka lumayan eksis lah ya, untuk pendatang baru. Karena mereka cantik-cantik, terus berbakat juga.

Sejujurnya, aku nonton acara ini karena aku nonton Season 2 nya duluan. Dan itu bener-bener bagus dan bikin nagih wkwk Jadi karena aku kepo, aku nonton deh season pertamanya. Ternyata setelah dibandingkan ya... aku lebih suka season 2 sih wkwk Cuma trainee disini bener-bener cantik.

Kalau ditanya siapa ultimatum biasku disini, jawabannya banyak!

Di awal, aku suka banget sama trainee Cube yang nampilin Crazy nya 4minute. Itu bener-bener bagus gaes! Jeon Soyeon bener-bener Crazy dan Eunbin cantik bener lah di evaluasi pertama ini<3 Aku juga suka sama Jellyfish trainee karena suara mereka beneran bagus. Sejeong, Nayoung, Mina. Sayangnya Nayoung nggak debut gaes:(

Dan semakin ke belakang, aku sih suka Sejeong, Doyeon, dan Chungha. Chungha ini beneran cuek, sering banget nggak make up, polosan gitu. Tapi tetep kelihatan cantik! Mereka sih debut di I.O.I

Kalau bias yang nggak debut, jelas CUBE Soyeon, Jellyfish Nayoung, LOEN Soyeon, Pledis Siyeon. Kalau mereka bisa debut di I.O.I sih, pasti I.O.I lebih meledak lagi. Mereka lebih berbakat dan nggak kalah cantik kok.

Selain I.O.I ternyata para fans juga membuat beberapa trainee lainnya debut dengan nama I.B.I. Cuma kayanya sih sebentar doang mereka debutnya.

Sayangnya sekarang I.O.I udah bubar dan mereka udah punya grup masing-masing.

Sejeong dan Mina di Gugudan.

Nayoung dan Kyulkyung di Pristin.

Doyeon dan Yoojung di Wekimeki.

Chaeyeon tetap di DIA.

Yeonjung di WJSN.

Chungha bersolo karir.

Sohye main di drama web karena dia emang dari agensi aktris sih.

Somi nih dari JYP tapi belum debut juga. Cuma dia eksis sih nongol di banyak acara reality show. Semoga Somi cepat debut yaaaa!

2. Produce 101 Season 2

Yang kedua nih! Sebenernya ajang survival pertama yang aku tonton tuh ya ini! Aku pun nontonnya setelah acara ini tamat dan udah mengungkap finalis yang akan debut. Dan entah kenapa bikin nagih. Aku udah ngulang nonton acara ini lebih dari 5x wkwk sampai hafal.

Kalau ditanya biasnya, semua! 101 trainee semua biasku. Lebih dari 70 trainee aku hafal namanya gais bayangkannnnn. Dan untunglah aku nonton pas udah final. Kalau nggak pasti bakalan bingung banget mau dukung siapa buat debut.

Sama kayak season sebelumnya, dari 101 finalis diambil 11 trainee untuk debut. Grup debutnya bernama Wanna One dan mereka akan bubar akhir 2018 ini guys:( Nggak tega sumpeh. Terlalu suka dengan Wanna One. Aku kudu ottokeeee.....

Dari sekian banyaka acara survival di Korea, kayanya sih yang dapat perhatian paling besar itu ya Produce 101 Season 2 ini. Buktinya waktu debut Wanna One langsung jadi Monster Rookie gitu.

Mungkin penyebabnya karena publik teribat langsung gitu kali ya, dalam voting, dalam pemilihan lagu juga. Bahkan sampai debutnya Wanna One masih memperhitungkan suara publik guys.

Dan acara ini beda dari yang lain karena selain kumpulan dari banyak agensi, di acara ini juga lebih nayangin story behind trainee gitu. Jadi kita kayak tau kedekatan antar trainee, kegiatan mereka, permasalahan mereka.

Mnet ini beneran jago kalau masalah evil editing. Cuma ini yang bikin Produce 101 Season 2 jadi menarik. Bahkan season 1 aja nggak se evil itu editnya. Di season 2 beneran deh... bikin geregetan. Tapi seru. Konflik diantara mereka bahkan ditayangin nggak kayak di acara lainnya.

Sewaktu aku nonton, pertamanya sih aku suka Ong karena dia tampan dan berani haha. Terus suka Jisung dan Kang Daniel trainee berambut pink. Cuma semakin ke belakang, malah makin suka sama mereka<3 Pokoknya semua biasku lah!

Kalau trainee yang aku suka tapi gagal debut di Wanna One sih.... siapa ya? Susah:( Semua suka.......

Di Korea sih yang disayangkan nggak debut itu Brave Samuel, Pledis Jonghyun, dan Starship Sewoon. Iya sih, mereka selalu ada di dekat 11 trainee cuma sayang gagal debut:( Gapapa sih, sekarang mereka udah bisa debut di agensi masing-masing kok. Selamat!

Dan semoga Wanna One bisa semakin sukses yaaaa. Doakan Wannable juga supaya kuat menghadapi kenyataan Wanna One disband akhir 2018 ini:”””

Ohiya, selain Wanna One fans juga membentuk grup lain semacam I.B.I gitu. Bahkan ada 2 grup dengan kontrak yang lebih lama juga. JBJ dan Rainz.

Dan aku nggak nyangka kalau antusias publik ke mereka cukup besar. Apalagi JBJ. JBJ udah hampir setara kayak I.O.I gitu. Udah kayak grup debut utama aja. Sayang Taedong nggak bisa debut bareng JBJ karena agensi dafuq nya:”

JBJ ini rata-rata masuk 35 besar dan karena mereka dekat juga fans jadi bentuk mereka deh. Mereka ini grup lawak gaes, percayalah. Untungnya agensi yang menangani mereka bagus ya... bahkan lebih bagus dari Wanna One hikz.

Ini Rainz nih. Tadinya cuma 6 anggota eh malah jadi 7. Terbailik sama JBJ:(

Grup ini rata-rata cuma sampai 60 besar. Kecuali my lovely Sunghyuk yang sampai 35 besar. Woontak sama Daehyeon yang tereliminasi tahap 1.

Rainz ini nggak kalah kok sama Wanna One dan JBJ. Rainz ini punya vocal yang kuat. Tengoklah Sunghyuk, Kiwon, Seongri, Woontak. Mereka nyanyi dengan merdunya di Produce 101 Season 2. Aku jatuh cinta sama suaranya Seongri di Call Me Baby. Dan Sunghyuk yang suka nangis.... Uh!

3. No Mercy

Setelah nonton Produce 101 aku akhirnya mulai berburu ajang survival lainnya. Dan akhirnya aku nonton No Mercy nya Starship. Mereka sekarang debut dengan nama Monsta X. Anggotanya itu ada Shownu, Jooheon, Ki Hyun, Wonho, Hyungwon, I.M, dan Minhyuk.

Awalnya ada 12 trainee disini. Mereka selalu dipanggil sesuai peringkat mereka gitu. 1-12. Mungkin No Mercynya disini kali ya. Selebihnya sih sama kayak ajang survival lainnya.

Bahkan ada evaluasi yang bikin choreo sendiri untuk timnya. Dan itu bener-bener bagus. Coba deh cek di Youtube. Grupnya Shownu pakai tema kabur dari penjara, terus grupnya Wonho pakai tema profesor gitu. Keren!

Oh! Setelah banyak yang tereliminasi, Starship malah nambah 1 trainee baru yang bikin trainee lainnya geram.

Saat itu sih aku mikirnya pasti I.M (trainee yang datang diakhir dan berhasil debut) bakalan nggak akur sama anggota Monsta X lainnya. Tapi ternyata.... mereka selalu berhasil ketawa karena I.M si maknae yang savage.

Setelah baca-baca banyak review, netizen menilai No Mercy ini cukup kejam karena manggil para trainee nya berdasarkan rangking. Acara ini juga sering dinilai berlebihan karena menampilkan Shownu yang mendadak ketemu GOT7 karena dulu dia dicalonkan debut bareng GOT7 tapi gagal. Terus masalah nambah trainee di tengah juga. Dan mereka banyak melibatkan artis lain kayak K.Will, Sistar, Vasco, Giriboy, dan siapa lagi lupa artisnya Starship dan rapper lain.

Aku sih nonton pas udah terbentuk Monsta X jadi ya suka-suka aja...

Biasku diawal itu Jooheon karena dia imut banget gaes wkwk padahal dia rapper... Tapi semakin kesini aku semakin suka I.M dan Kihyun. Suaranya Kihyun itu lho.... padahal tampangnya dia yang paling menyeramkan kayak ibu tiri wkwk

Ke depannya, mari dukung Monsta X yeep!

Dan ONF juga. Minkyung trainee No Mercy sekarang udah debut bareng ONF lhoooo

4. Mix & Match

Sebenernya Mix & Match ini kelanjutan dari WIN. Jadi di acara survival WIN: Who Is Next itu ada 2 team yang bersaing untuk debut. Dan tim yang gagal debut di WIN akhirnya kembali ikut acara survival untuk akhirnya bisa debut.

Sama kayak di NO Mercy, disini YG tiba-tiba nambah trainee baru setelah trainee baru. Bahkan 3 orang. Dan ini membuat B.I sebagai leader jadi stres berat.

Kata orang sih acara ini kejam... tapi menurutku nggak terlalu sih.... Mungkin kejam bagi iKon karena sebelumnya udah dibentuk team B di WIN tapi malah ada trainee lain di Mix & Match. Jadi mereka harus bersaing 2x  YG disini terlalu mengelukan B.I, Bobby, dan Jinhwan. Mungkin karena mereka adalah trainee terbaik disana.

Akhirnya mereka debut dengan nama iKon dengan 7 anggota B.I, Bobby, Jinhwan, Junhee, Yunhyeong, Chanwoo, dan Donghyuk.

Awalnya disini aku suka B.I karena leadershipnya. Tapi lama-lama aku suka Bobby karena friendly dan peka. Dan aku suka Go Junhee karena suaranya yang khas! Uh! Lagu-lagunya iKon ini lho bagus-bagus.... Sayang mereka lama comebacknya.

Mereka habis comeback deng kemarin ini dengan lagu Love Scenario. Jangan lupa dengerin yap!

Dengerin lagunya pentagon juga! Hongseok, trainee baru di Mix & Match ini akhirnya masuk Cube dan debut bersama Pentagon!

5. WIN: Who Is Next

Sebelum nonton Mix & Match lebih baik sih nonton WIN dulu ya. Untuk mengenal team B lebih dekat.

Jadi disini ada 2 team yang bersaing untuk debut. Mereka sama-sama trainee YG dan sama-sama berbakat.

Acara ini dinilai survival paling kejam. Mungkin karena per grup dan banyak hal nggak terduga. Kayak waktu battle sama JYP tapi mereka nggak dikasih tau siapa yang akan battle. Pokoknya disuruh persiapan aja gitu.

Team A akhirnya debut dari WIN dengan nama WINNER. Dan mereka beneran jadi Winner guys! Mereka berhasil jadi grup idol tercepat yang ternominasi untuk bawa trophy di acara musik. Lagu mereka juga selalu hitz.

Dibanding iKon, kayaknya Winner ini anak kesayangannya YG deh. Sayangnya Nam Taehyun keluar dari Winner dan menyisakan 4 anggota aja. Padahal aku suka sama Taehyun nih sewaktu dengerin lagu mereka yang judulnya Sentimental.

Di awal sih aku suka Kang Seungyoon karena suaranya bagus dan dia ganteng wkwk Tapi semakin kesini entah kenapa semakin suka Mino dan segala rapnya.

Ternyata Mino itu mantan calon anggota Block B. Untunglah dia udah di Winner sekarang.

6. Sixteen

Kali ini acara survivalnya JYP untuk mendebutkan girlgrup.

Ada 16 trainee yang ikut di acara ini. Mereka dibagi jadi grup Minor dan Mayor. Menurutku sih, acara ini lebih kejam dibandingkan yang lainnya.

Grup Mayor dan Minor ini bener-bener berbeda. Dorm mereka beda, jadwal latihan mereka beda, kendaraan, dan ruangan mereka pokoknya beda semua.

Masa iya grup Mayor latihan siang dan grup Minor malem-malem latihannya.

Tapi akhirnya mereka debut sebagai Twice dan bener-bener eksis mereka. Masih rookie aja udah jadi trending topik. Bahkan semua MV mereka udah ditonton 200juta kali. Hebat bener emang.

Tadinya Twice itu diisi 7 orang, Nayeon, Jihyo, Momo, Mina, Jungyeon, Dahyun, dan Chaeyoung. Tapi JYP nambahin 2 orang lagi Sana dan Tzuyu karena mereka selalu punya vote yang besar.

Tapi selain yang debut di Twice, ada beberapa trainee yang sekarang jadi terkenal.

Somi yang akhirnya masuk Produce 101 dan berhasil debut di I.O.I

Chaeryeong yang nongol di Stray Kids episode 1

Dan Natty yang nongol di Idol School. Sayangnya Natty udah keluar dari JYP.

7. Seventeen Project

Ini sebenernya bukan ajang survival sih. Cuma project menuju debutnya Seventeen. Jadi sebelum mereka resmi debut, Seventeen dikasih beberapa misi untuk melatih kemampuan mereka pas jadi idol nantinya.

Lumayan menarik sih menurutku....

Sebelum ada Wanna One, Seventeen ini termasuk ke Top3 group favorite para yeoja bersama BTS dan EXO wkwkwk

8. Stray Kids

Stray kids adalah acara survival dari JYP untuk membentuk grup baru. Di episode 1 menampilkan showcase JYP untuk mendebutkan grup baru. Ada grup cowok dan grup cewek. Dan akhirnya yang berkesempatan debut adalah grup cowok ini.

Di grup cewek ada Chaeryeong yang pernah muncul di Sixteen juga.

Jadi di Stray Kids ini mereka dikasih misi untuk menuju debutnya gitu. Pada setiap misi ada eliminasi. Dan korban yang tereliminasi itu Minho sama Felix.

Tapi alasan Minho tereliminasi ini bikin netizen gregetan karena nggak bermutu. Jadi Minho ini masternya dance diantara trainee lain, dia juga seorang vocal. Di misi pertama, tau-tau JYP nyuruh Minho untuk ngerapp. Akhirnya karena rap nya Minho nggak bagus-bagus amat, di misi kedua dia dieliminasi. Kan dia bukan rapper -_-

Dan kedua alasan Felix dieliminasi karena katanya pelafalannya Felix itu nggak bagus, nggak kayak Korea. Yaiyalah.... orang dia bukan orang Korea -_-

Makanya netizen geram sama JYP.

Untungnya, Minho dan Felix kembali lagi setelah diberi kesempatan kedua. Dan akhirnya mereka bersembilan bisa debut dengan nama Stray Kids, sama kayak nama survivalnya.

Di awal sih aku suka sama Bang Chan, jelas. Karena dia leader yang baik, dia juga yang paling jago bikin lagu, dan sebagainya. Tapi semakin kesini, malah semakin suka sama semua. Minho, Hyunjin, Jeongin yang punya pesona luar biasa. Bang Chan, Changbin, Jisung dengan kemampuan membuat lagunya. Seungmin dan Woojin yang suaranya beneran bagus. Dan Felix yang punya suara rap berbanding terbalik dengan wajah unyunya.

Stray Kids ini grup yang ideal banget! Mereka masih muda, berbakat, dan bener-bener beda dengan image JYP. Lagu-lagu mereka itu bagus.... Harus dengerin Your Wings pokoknya!

Untunglah mereka debut bersembilan. Sekarang tinggal nunggu kepastian tanggal debut mereka. Kayanya sih.... mereka bakalan meledak gitu.

9. Mixnine

Kali ini aku mengikuti ajang survival dari awal mulai sampai tamat. Mixnine adalah survivalnya YG yang tayang di JTBC berbeda dari acara lainnya yang tayang di Mnet. Dan mereka baru aja tamat beberapa hari yang lalu.

Jadi di Mixnine ini ada banyak trainee dari berbagai agensi, mirip Produce 101 gitu. Cuma ini cowok dan cewek bareng dalam satu acara. Setiap vote juga boleh vote 9 trainee yang paling disuka cowok-cewek campur. Cuma nanti pas debut ya sendiri-sendiri. Trainee cowok sendiri, trainee cewek sendiri.

Aku sih suka-suka aja ya nonton ini.... traineenya pada berbakat menurutku. Apalagi ada beberapa trainee Produce 101 yang ikutan ajang ini, kayak: Woo Jinyoung, Jo Yonggeun, Yoon Yongbin, Lee Gunmin. Ada trainee ceweknya juga Heo Chanmi, Ng Sz Kai, Lee Soomin dan kayaknya masih ada yang lain lagi tapi kurang disoroti di Mixnine maupun di Produce 101.

Dan Jinyoung selalu rangking 1 gaaaaaes. Keinget banget waktu dia gagal masuk top 35 padahal penampilan dia di position eval berhasil menarik perhatian. Dan ketika di Mixnine banyak yang kenal dia, bahkan trainee lain pun antusias menyambut Mitcheotci Jinyoung.

Ada trainee JYP juga yang selalu jadi nomer 1 diantara trainee cewek lainnya, Shin Ryu Jin. Dia juga nongol di teasernya BTS Love Yourself.

Entah kenapa ratingnya Mixnine jelek banget. Dimulai dari 1,9 dan diakhiri dengan 0,9.

Iya sih, diawal emang kejam dan nggak banget. Cuma dateng ke agensi dan rebutan posisi. Pokoknya cuma bersaing menjadi yang terbaik bahkan sampai kelelahan. Kejamnya lagi adalah YG langsung mengeliminasi setengah dari trainee yang ada. Pokoknya langsung drastis gitu.

Tapi acara ini itu bagus..... trainee nya sebagian besar udah debut dan dikenal, mana mereka ganteng dan cantik. Sumpah, trainee ceweknya lebih cantik dari Produce. Cuma kalo yang cowok mah, masih gantengan di Produce wkwk

Semakin ke belakang juga mereka nayangin hal-hal yang terjadi diantara para trainee kok kayak di Produce 101. Jadi nggak melulu tentang misi dan tanpa hiburan. Bahkan tempat tinggal mereka lebih elite, di hotel broooo!

Lagu-lagu yang diproduksi selama misi juga bagus. Apalagi pas konsep evaluasi. Uh!

Aku lebih menyoroti trainee cowok sih daripada trainee ceweknya. Maklum lah ya..... Terlalu banyak yang berbakat dan tampan disana. Yang cewek juga cantik. Sayang aja pake sistem vote.

Sayangnya Yongbin, Gunmin, Yonggeun, Changmi, Kai, kembali tereliminasi. Gagal di Produce 101 dan di Mixnine juga. Padahal Gunmin itu diawal eksis banget, sering masuk Top9 dan selalu dapet banyak vote. Apalagi pas tampil di Love in The Ice. Wuh! Itu masterpiece banget. Coba cek di Youtube guys! Love in The Ice sama Born Hater coba. Keren banget!

Kemarin, akhirnya Mixnine tamat setelah mengumumkan top 9 trainee cowok dan top 9 trainee cewek. Ada Jinyoung dan Soomin disana. Sayangnya trainee cewek cuma menang aja. Yang debut adalah trainee cowok.

Ketika nonton ini sih aku excited karena ada Jinyoung. Woodam juga ikut audisi, cuma nggak lolos. Dan aku selalu suka Jinyoung dari awal sampai akhir semenjak Produce 101.

Cuma pas di awal aku tertarik sama trainee Banana Culture Chae Changhyun dan Lee Jaejun. Mereka beneran menarik perhatian banget pas audisi. CL aja sampai terpesona. Sayangnya Changhyun tereliminasi duluan. Padahal dia sering di debut bus pas di awal-awal. Jaejun malah selalu lolos eliminasi tapi selalu ada di rangking akhir. Kayaknya Jaejun ini kesayangannya YG dan pengen buktiin sesuatu ke YG deh wkwk

ACE, ONF, dan KNK juga termasuk yang paling bersinar disana. Bener-bener deh mereka ambil peran banget.

Kedepannya, mari tunggu mereka debut!

Btw yang berhasil debut itu Woo Jinyoung, ONF Hyojin, ONF Minseok, ACE Byeongkwan, ACE Donghoon, Lee Rubin, YG Hyunsuk, YG Byeonggon, dan 7OClock Hangyeom.

10. The Unit

Setelah Nu’est dateng ke Produce 101 dan Minhyun akhirnya debut di Wanna One, sekarang banyak orang yang lebih memperhatikan Nu’est. Mereka adalah idol yang udah 6 tahun debut tapi belum banyak pencapaian. Tapi karena Produce 101, akhirnya mereka bisa terbang sekarang.

Nah karena itu KBS membuat ajang survival untuk menyelamatkan Nu’est Nu’est lainnya.

Jadi disini namanya The Unit ada trainee cewek dan trainee cowok, mirip kayak Mixnine dan tayang hampir bersamaan dengan Mixnine. Cuma The Unit lebih digemari. Mungkin karena tayang di KBS dan lebih sering menampilkan keseharian para trainee jadi netizen lebih suka.

Banyak banget grup idol underrated yang ikutan acara ini. Tapi ternyata pas udah dateng ke The Unit mereka berbakat. Mereka cuma belum berkesempatan aja. Entah karena pasar atau agensinya. Nyatanya setelah di The Unit fans mereka mulai bermunculan.

Kalau ditanya biasku disini... susah:” Banyak yang kusuka....

Alasan aku nonton awalnya karean ada Timoteo dan Hojung HOTSHOT. Taehyun HOTSHOT berhasil debut di JBJ dan Hasungwoon HOTSHOT berhasil debut di Wanna One karena bergabung di Produce 101. Karena itu aku nonton The Unit. Timo sama Hojung pasti lolos juga kan? Dan ternyata Timoteo itu sahabatnya Kai, Jimin, Taemin gaes....

Di awal, aku suka banget sama Timoteo dan Hojung. Setelah itu mereka membentuk Tim Merah untuk misi pertama. Ada Kanto, Rockhyun, Lee Geon, Hansol, Kijong, Donghyun, dan Feeldog. Mereka cukup di notice di awal. Apalagi Donghyun yang anggota Boyfriend dan Hansol yang mantan SM Rookie. Dan karena strateginya, red team ini jadi center di lagu tema The Unit.

Tapi semakin kesini gaes.... semakin banyak yang bagus. Nggak cuma red team itu aja. Sebagian besar blue team, black team, dan yellow team yang cukup mendominasi.

Timoteo sempet rangking 1 selama berminggu-minggu sampai dia kaget pas tau rangking 4. Terus kandidat lainnya itu Jun U-Kiss dan Euijin BIGFLO yang jadi rangking 1.

Red team yang tadinya sering masuk top 9 dan disekitar itu mulai tergantikan.

Uh! Mereka itu beneran bagus....

Ada Dongmyung juga. Iya Son Dongmyung yang ikutan Produce 101 Season 2. Dia sempet bermasalah kakinya saat battle grup, dan akhirnya tersingkir di eliminasi pertama. Tapi pas masuk The Unit rangkingnya cukup besar sama kayak peserta lain yang di Mixnine.

Untuk peserta cewek... aku suka sih. Tapi nggak begitu. Lebih suka trainee cewek di Mixnine. Cuma di The Unit suka juga. Mereka sebagian besar idol yang cukup dikenal. Bahkan lebih underrated trainee cowok dibanding yang cewek.

Berhubung The Unit belum tamat.... jadi mari tunggu kabar mereka dan terus dukung mereka supaya bisa lebih dikenal lagi!

Aku sih pengennya diantara mereka ini nanti debut ya...

Dari semua ini... dapat disimpulkan ajang survival paling disukai adalah Produce 101 Season 2. Walaupun nggak semewah dan sehorror yang lain, Produce 101 Season 2 tetep juara lah di hati. Terbaiq memang. Bahkan trainee yang tereliminasi di evaluasi pertama mendapat banyak perhatian dari netizen diacara lain. Jadi nggak heran ketika Wanna One bisa sesukses ini.
