<<you can call me zee I guess, she/her
<<postin' some of the little worldstuffs I made here 8)
<<notes:
<<(most of my original posts are just weird memes so watch out if you're expecting worldbuilding or something)
List of current fandoms and corresponding AUs (under the cut):
Monday Fight Rankin (possibly an ex-name) - Ghost Town
Based on the lore around spirits. The main characters are chilling in a once-abandoned village (possibly fishing-based, but I haven't decided.) now inhabited by spirits called Ghost Town (literally). Mostly hidden from the rest of the world to prevent disruption of their peace, but regularly interact with the regular human-inhabited village nearby.
Rainworld: Hearth
Set around/after the Saints campaign, a still living iterator managed to move on from the Triple Affirmative, now taking care of a slugcat and scavenger colony, and is trying to rally other groups under her since y'know, the world is a freezing wasteland now.
A hidden monster village on the surface managed to survive due to the power of said tinged souls but ended up getting discovered after the underground monsters were freed, now they have to adapt to modern society, or rather had.
Undertale- Tingetale
Homestuck- Aphtraldis
Trolls are a bit different now, especially the hemospectrum/caste system, part of a group of species called Cinerians and are related to Carapacians through this.
Traditional trolls mostly exist in folklore only, as the Duskhorned.
Solarballs- Rhamnousian System
Set in the far future, in a red giant system, if you check the etymology of Rhamnousia, there are extra hints for lore. Otherwise, they are just chilling as the universe slowly dies.
Flatland- 6 Pal Perspective
Over many years in the past, some flatland refugees managed to escape the 2nd dimension, eventually accumulating. This resulted in the first flatlander village in the 3rd dimension being founded. The story is from the perspective of 6 kids in this village of varying shapes, from a triangle to an octagon. The biggest difference here is the saying "once a line, always a line" no longer holds in the 3rd dimension, the once lines collapsing into simply slimmer versions of shapes (painfully if they weren't born that way), like an in-between of Flatland the Movie and the Film, and everyone is somewhat irregular due to not being built for 3rd-dimensional gravity. Clinical irregularity, (not important anymore either, unless related to something like scoliosis or developmental issues) starts around a 10° deviation but also depends on side amount, basically if it looks lopsided enough, it's lopsided.
Dayshift at Freddys - N/A
Not quite a full AU but an idea where everything stays around the same, except there's a character that can interact with and get possessed by the kiddie ghosts willingly. She has to avenge their deaths or get pestered by them for the rest of her life, which would've been cut short already had The Incident leading to the ghost-seeing been successful.
DND - Whatever the DM (my classmate) calls it
The characters I've played as so far are:
Not my au, just characters but I'd like to spill how ridiculous mine are
And my personal favorite, a tabaxi warlock named Dog who is JUST A KID and WORSHIPS A RAT, he hasn't been used yet actually but guy is literally a poor little meow meow, I got some sad lore for the two of em (even the patron) but I'll reveal that eventually ;) ALSO IN THE GROUP HES IN THERE A GUY THAT SACRIFICES CHILDREN SO PRAY FOR HIM-
A goblin ex-cleric monk (who became a monk because of going through the grilled cheese dimension) named Ooga Booga with freakishly high stats.
Warrior Cats - Feline Fellowships
OH MY GOD HOW COULD I FORGET THIS MY WHOLE SHTICK IS CATS-
Cats live in groups called Fellowships, which are further divided into smaller groups called Sects. There are only two Fellowships, those who live in the west of a mountain called the Nightlongers (not the final name including the other one, it's called that because the mountain blocks any sight of the actual sun for a while), and those who live in the east part are called the Daybracers (I think you can connect the dots)

Crude Comments From Europe’s Top Diplomat Point to Bigger Problems
Josep Borrell Fontelles said Europe was “a garden,” and the world “a jungle,” triggering charges of neocolonialism and racism just as the E.U. tries to drum up support in the developing world.
By Matina Stevis-Gridneff
Oct. 17, 2022
BRUSSELS — European efforts to rally global support for Ukraine are being met with resistance, in part because of the long shadow of colonialism and the impact it still has in large parts of Africa and Asia.
The top European Union diplomat calling the world “a jungle” and Europe “a garden” at risk of being overrun isn’t helping.
In a speech to aspiring diplomats on Thursday, Josep Borrell Fontelles, a septuagenarian Spanish Socialist who is the bloc’s most senior diplomat, used an extended metaphor premised on this very idea.
“Yes, Europe is a garden.” Mr. Borrell told aspiring European diplomats in the Belgian city of Bruges. “We have built a garden. Everything works. It is the best combination of political freedom, economic prosperity and social cohesion that the humankind has been able to build — the three things together.”
“Most of the rest of the world is a jungle, and the jungle could invade the garden,” he added, calling the young European diplomats “gardeners” who “have to go to the jungle. Europeans have to be much more engaged with the rest of the world. Otherwise, the rest of the world will invade us, by different ways and means.”
The comments were scripted, and it wasn’t the first time he made them. He had employed the jungle metaphor in more limited remarks in August.
On Monday Mr. Borrell stood by his comments, insisting that he had been misunderstood.
He said that Europe was a privileged place to live and that his message to the aspiring diplomats was to cultivate relationships outside it, because it cannot be “an island in the world away from what was going on elsewhere.”
“I do not understand the interpretation that has been given to what I said, I certainly do not share the allegation that it is somehow imperialist, white supremacist or a retrograde message,” Mr. Borrell told reporters in Luxembourg on Monday.
Thursday’s speech circulated broadly on social media, a gift to Europe’s detractors. Among the first to seize on it was the Kremlin’s spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova.
“To continue the analogy, the European gardener is in a vegetative state,” she quipped on Telegram. “And now seriously. The ‘garden’ was built by Europe due to the barbaric attitude to the plundering of the ‘jungle.’ Borrell could not say it better: the most prosperous system created in Europe was nourished by its roots from the colonies, which it ruthlessly oppressed,” she added.
In Africa and beyond, government officials and citizens vented on social media. In regions where the European Union is clashing with local governments, the comments were fodder for a broader repudiation of Western meddling.
Ethiopian and Eritrean officials, whose governments are allied in fighting a brutal war against an insurgency in the Tigray region, jumped on the comments.
“Is Africa still a jungle only meant to furnish someone else’s garden as it has painfully been?” quipped Redwan Hussein, a senior adviser to the Ethiopian prime minister, in a tweet.
But Mr. Borrell’s garden/jungle talk also shocked traditional European allies who quickly denounced it.
“What a terrible analogy Mr. Borrell has made,” said Bob Rae, Canada’s United Nations ambassador, in a tweet on Sunday. “Surely history and our own lived experience teaches us that no part of the world is free from violence,” he added.
A spokeswoman for Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, who is basically his boss, said that she retained confidence in him and did not offer any corrections to the garden metaphor.
Still, many politicians and experts within the bloc were outraged.
“This abhorrent, colonial language is unacceptable from any representative of our union, least of all our highest-ranking diplomat,” said Alice Bah Kuhnke, a prominent Swedish member of the European Parliament with the Green Party.
“It’s not the first time that Borrell’s behavior reflects poorly on the E.U.,” she added, referring to previous instances where Mr. Borrell’s comments drew ire for being clumsy, inflammatory or crude. “Once again, this raises questions about whether he is suitable to continue as high representative.”
Experts also said that alienating nations in the developing world could undermine the European Union’s efforts to bolster global partnerships in its search for its own independent place in the global power structure, as well as drum up support for Ukraine against Russia.
“This kind of comment puts a serious dent in the enterprise of European strategic autonomy,” said Mohammadbagher Forough, a research fellow at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies. “It upsets at the most profound level countries in the rest of the world, because of the history of colonialism.”
In United Nations General Assembly votes, a bellwether for how well Western allies are doing against Russia’s own diplomatic efforts, the European Union and the United States have struggled to rally support from African and Asian countries they would normally call allies. High-profile partners like South Africa and India have chosen to abstain on key votes, for example.
Seasoned E.U. observers point out that Mr. Borrell is not an outlier when it comes to the dominant thinking at the heart of the bloc’s policy machinery.
“My sense is that Borrell is not fundamentally different from what this commission thinks more broadly,” said Shahin Vallée, who heads the German Council on Foreign Relations’ Geo-Economics Program. “More broadly, I think Europe is at a point of trying to define its identity and its contours.”
“To me these comments echo two things: One is a civilizational turn and the resurgence of neoconservative sentiment,” he added, noting that the garden-jungle analogy used by Mr. Borrell was first employed by the prominent American neoconservative scholar Robert Kagan.
Mr. Borrell on Monday rejected the idea that his comments were indicative of a neoconservative stance.
“I have been disappointed by the interpretations that have been bandied around, I reject them totally,” he said. “I think everything I’ve done in my life completely goes against being called a neocon.”

Carbon tax countdown: reprieve unlikely for big jump at the pumps
It seems unlikely Nova Scotians will be getting a last-minute reprieve from the federal carbon tax, set to take effect on Saturday.
Waiting for her husband at a north end gas station Monday, Andrea Hay couldn't help but notice the current price of gas around here, and balk at the idea it will be at least 12 cents higher Saturday morning.
"Pretty concerned, especially when you're driving a V-6," said Hay.
"The gas prices have been pretty atrocious, especially when you're trying to get back and forth to work."
The federal charge is expected to impact Nova Scotians far more than its maritime neighbours, but the government and opposition have very different views on how to ease the burden for residents.
"This will be the biggest jump anywhere in the country," said N.S. Liberal Environment & Climate Change Shadow Minister, Iain Rankin.
"Previously we negotiated the cap and trade system that limited the cost the pump to one cent a litre, while bringing in revenue to fight climate change, while everywhere else had the backstop, so six or seven cents a litre, and then they've increased to about ten cents, so you're going to see about a four cent increase, whereas here, we're going to see almost the full 14 cents," said Rankin.
"So, it'll be a 13 cent to 14 cent increase here."
Prices in New Brunswick and P.E.I. are only expected to rise about three cents.
The steep hike in Nova Scotia was also predicted by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation last week.
Concerned about a disproportionate impact around here, the four Atlantic Premiers wrote to the Prime Minister last week, requesting an urgent meeting and a delay in implementing the tax because of ongoing high inflation and an apparent discrepancy in the expected costs.
CTV News reached out to the Prime Minister's office to confirm receipt of the letter and inquire whether a meeting was being arranged.
There was no response before deadline.
"It's a bad thing. It will punish Nova Scotians unnecessarily," said N.S. Premier Tim Houston from his office in Pictou.
"The price of gas will go up. Diesel will go up, [and] Home heating. And that means that the price of everything will go up. Everything that needs to be moved from where it's produced or grown to a market is going to cost more," said Houston, noting none of the Atlantic premiers dispute the climate is changing and action does need to be taken.
"We don't believe a carbon tax is necessary. We put forward a plan to the Federal government that is actually better for the environment and certainly more affordable for Nova Scotians, but that plan was rejected because it didn't include a carbon tax," said Houston.
But Rankin says the PC plan had other shortcomings.
"I think time is up for them to come up with a plan that's commensurate with the federal guidelines. I think it's just politics at this point, the last few days before it takes effect."
Houston argues the carbon tax concept simply doesn't fit in the maritime region.
"The carbon tax is meant to deter behaviours. Put a tax on it and maybe people won't do what we don't want them to do. But in this province, a very rural province, we have to drive to work. Public transit? Not an option for most Nova Scotians. Walking to work? Not an option for most Nova Scotians. Biking to work? Not an option. We still have to drive, we still have to heat our homes. So the carbon tax makes things more expensive, but it won't modify behaviour, therefore it doesn't improve the planet," he said.
Even with quarterly rebates as the tax is fully phased-in over the next seven years, federal officials estimate Nova Scotians will be shelling out $635 more, with P.E.I. at $569 and New Brunswick at $501.
But, there are options to provide relief, say the opposition Liberals.
"There's a number of different things under the provincial control. One of them is the gas tax. Another one would be income tax," said Rankin.
But the Premier dismissed the idea.
"We're running a deficit. That means we're investing more in Nova Scotians than we're collecting. So to hear the opposition suggest that we reduce healthcare spending, just so we can send more money to Ottawa, it doesn't make any sense to me," said Houston.
"This Carbon tax is unnecessary. It will punish people, and any suggestion that we should roll over and accept that, and reduce healthcare spending, and reduce investments in housing, and reduce investments in roads and poverty, it doesn't make sense why they would take that position."
Hay says she's not considering a different vehicle yet, but acknowledges fuel prices are painful.
"Even if you live close to your job or further away, it still impacts family. Your ability to make money to pay for the gas," she said.

Charlene Quarles was getting ready to spend a hot day at the lake with her family on August 21 when two sheriff's deputies showed up at her home, barged in uninvited, and shot her grandson dead.
Six months later, Quarles is still waiting for answers about who shot her grandson — and why.
The shooting death of 28-year-old Trevor McKinley is complicated. He had a warrant out for his arrest, and his grandfather, Sonny Quarles, admits complaining about his angry behavior on a 911 call before deputies arrived at their home.
But Trevor's family are largely in agreement that he was not a danger and that deputies should have tried to deescalate the situation to prevent the confrontation turning deadly.
"I'm not saying that my son was an angel by any means," Trevor's mother, Jackie McKinley, told Insider. "But it could have been avoided."
Trevor is one of at least four people who died after confrontations with sheriff's deputies in Rankin County, Mississippi, last year. Insider previously reported on the death of Damien Cameron, a Black man who died in police custody in July. Two months prior to that, another Black man, Cory Jackson, died in police custody as well. Most recently, officers responding to a call of a drug overdose in December shot and killed Robert Rushton, who they say was armed with two knives. No charges have been brought in any of these cases, which remain under investigation.
"I don't understand how they can kill somebody and then keep the case open and active so they don't have to release any information. And it's not like this is a one-time incident," Trevor's former fiancée, Ashton Durr, said. Durr said the sheriff's office has "given no explanation and proven nothing about why any of these killings were valid or necessary."
The sheriff's office did not respond to Insider's request for comment on this story, and resisted our efforts to get more information on the McKinley shooting.
Trying to get clean
The story of Trevor's death begins on June 1, when he and his fiancée got into a fight that turned physical.
Durr told Insider that the fight was about drugs. She said Trevor had been clean for several years, but that she found a stash of pills and confronted him about relapsing. She says he responded by chasing her around the house, hitting her. At one point, she stabbed him.
Police weren't called to the fight, but learned about it later through one of her friends, Durr said. She said police showed up at their house about two days later but she refused to talk to them. After that, she decided to go stay with her parents to get some space from Trevor.
"I left because I figured me staying, he wouldn't go and get the help he needed," she said.
Within a week, she said Trevor had checked himself into rehab.
After completing the program, Trevor went to stay with his mother in Tennessee and it was there that he first learned that there was a warrant out for his arrest. Jackie McKinley says her son planned to turn himself in when he returned to Mississippi.
Tumblr media
Trevor returned to Mississippi on August 7, after his mother got COVID. His father, Shannon McKinley, says that his son tried to turn himself in after returning, but was told that he would have to get two negative COVID-19 tests first. The sheriff's department did not respond to questions about this policy.
Trevor's lawyer, William Andy Sumrall, told Insider that he left a message at the Rankin County Sheriff's Office before the weekend Trevor was killed, telling them that his client planned to turn himself in on the following Monday, but he isn't sure whether they received the message.
One last get-together as a family
On the morning of August 21, Charlene Quarles said the plan was to take Trevor and his kids to a lake where Trevor had spent a lot of time as a child. Durr would join them and stay the night with Trevor in a hotel at the lake.
The couple was realistic. They expected Trevor would go to jail "for awhile," Durr said, so this was one last opportunity to be together as a family.
The morning got off to a rough start though when Trevor and his grandfather got into an argument.
Sonny Quarles told Insider that his grandson was looking for some documents in his bedroom that morning, and took out some drawers in the process. Quarles said when he asked his grandson to put the drawers back when he was done, Trevor snapped.
"He started one of them cussing fits," Quarles said. "He throwed me down, hit me in the back of the head, and kind of dazed me."
The heated exchange caused his wife to start having chest pain, and she asked him to call 911.
"I couldn't seem to get my breath that morning, and it scared me, and I told him, I said, 'Sonny you might better just call the paramedics,'" Charlene Quarles recalled.
But while her husband called 911, Quarles said she recovered and told her husband to tell them not to come.
What happened next is somewhat unclear. Sonny Quarles said he made a second call to 911, but was vague about what he told the 911 operator.
He said while he was on the call, Trevor started "cussing again."
"I said, I just can't put up with this today. And I called 911 again and asked them to come down here," Quarles said.
When asked whether he told the 911 operator that Trevor had hit him or was being abusive in any way, he said that he couldn't recall exactly what he said.
Charlene and Sonny Quarles were outside the house when police arrived on the scene. Charlene said her husband was holding the baby while she fetched a diaper bag for their trip to the lake when the two deputies rushed into the home uninvited.
"They just come flying up in the yard, two of them," Charlene said. "They jumped out of the car, didn't say one word, show nothing. One went for the front door, one went for the kitchen door."
Within minutes, the couple said they heard four shots and their grandson was dead.
Durr said she was on the phone with Trevor just before he was killed.
"He sounded like he was crouched down in a corner, hiding almost. He was like, 'I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry … I love you, I'm so sorry.' And then I heard some man come in, he sounded like he was right beside him and he was like, 'Don't fucking move Trevor, don't fucking run.'"
"Then I just heard scrambling and the phone dropped and it hung up," Durr said.
Ten minutes later, she said she received a call from Trevor's aunt, saying he was dead.
Tumblr media
In its press release after the incident, the Rankin County Sheriff's Office said that deputies were dispatched to the home for a "medical call," but before arriving on the scene, a "caller" indicated there was a "domestic disturbance."
The press release goes on to say that deputies learned that Trevor had a felony warrant for domestic violence, and that he refused multiple commands to come out of the home's attic.
"McKinley then attempted to climb down and flee deputies," the press release said. "McKinley then displayed a handgun and fired at the deputies who then returned fire, striking the suspect. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene."
Insider was only able to obtain scant pieces of additional information in relation to McKinley's shooting, mostly from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.
Insider obtained an MBI incident report, which includes information one of its special agents gleaned about the shooting after being called to the scene.
The special agent recounts what the sheriff told him about the shooting, an account which largely echoes what the sheriff's office said in its press release.
However, the MBI agent was told that the two officers involved first tried to use a Taser on McKinley but that "it did not have any effect on the subject."
McKinley then "turned around and fired multiple rounds at the officers" before one of the officers returned fire, striking McKinley in the head.
Threats of violence
The Quarleses believe their grandson hid in the attic because he had been warned that officers would beat him up if he didn't turn himself in.
Tumblr media
Charlene Quarles said someone in the department told Trevor's father that "if they had to come pick him up they was gonna rough him up real bad."
"Trevor knows how they work up there. He's been up there many times in his life, and he knows they do that. They're famous for roughing people up when they go to get 'em," she said. The sheriff's department did not respond to questions about this.
Quarles believes her grandson fled to the attic because of the fear of being beaten up, and wasn't trying to resist arrest.
"He has never, in the five or six times he's been arrested in his life, has never resisted or done anything," Quarles said.
Both Quarles and Trevor's father suggested that Trevor may have accidentally pulled the trigger after officers tased him.
"Did he only fire because he was getting jolted from some electricity … is that what caused his muscles to tense and squeeze the trigger?" Trevor's father said.
But Trevor's father also admits that it's possible his son relapsed, or had finally reached the end of his tether with law enforcement.
"He's been in trouble now most of his life. Maybe he had had enough. I don't know if he had gotten a hold of some drugs and was out of his normal thinking or just reached a point where he'd just snapped."
Did officers have a right to enter the home?
The Quarleses question whether the sheriff's deputies had a right to enter their home that day.
"The very idea that they can go bust in your house, not say one word to you. I mean where's my rights?" Charlene Quarles said of Rankin County Sheriff's deputies.
But Sumrall, Trevor's attorney, told Insider that if cops had reason to believe that a person with a warrant out for their arrest was inside, cops had a right to enter the home.
Even if they did have the right to enter the home, the family believes the police should have tried to deescalate the situation first, before bursting into the house guns-blazing.
"There was no one else in the house. What's the purpose of going in and trying to flush him out?" Shannon McKinley asked.
Waiting for answers
In the more than six months since Trevor's death, his family say the only information they've received from Rankin County is the information in the initial press release.
"I want some answers," Charlene Quarles said. "If it was all upfront and done by the law, why would nobody tell you anything? It's been six months."
"We don't have a toxicology report, we don't have any information whatsoever," Jackie McKinley said. "They've released nothing to us. They wouldn't even release his body to us. We weren't able to have a funeral for three weeks."
Trevor's mother said she's concerned that her son is just one of multiple people who were killed in confrontations with Rankin County Sheriff's deputies.
Jackie McKinley said Rankin County has gotten "a bit of a reputation of killing people lately" and "it's really becoming an issue."
Soon after her son's death, McKinley said she called up Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey to discuss the recent deaths with him, but says he "basically hung up on me."
"I wanted to speak with him about his officers and maybe them being trained better," she said.
Insider requested the incident report, arrest warrant, 911 call log, call audio, and a call transcript from Rankin County. We were met with resistance from officials, who turned down most of our request, save for the arrest warrant and a heavily-redacted 911 dispatch call log.
Under Mississippi law, incident reports are public information. Rankin County, however, declined to release the report because, it alleges, the incident report in this case is an investigative report and therefore exempt from public review.
Since an officer was involved in the shooting, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation. As of March 3, the agency said the investigation was ongoing.
Trevor's father is trying to reserve judgment until he's heard all the facts.
"I've been trying not to pass judgment till the facts come out and are made public ... then I can make my determination as to whether I think it was justifiable or not," he said.
Charlene Quarles said she's considered suing the county, but hasn't been able to find a lawyer. She said she doesn't like the idea of suing, but believes "drastic" change is needed at the sheriff's office.
"I've lived here my whole life … the sheriffs, they still act like it's 1950," she said. "They act like I got a badge and a gun and I can kill you and ain't nothing you can do about it."
"My son had a lot of issues, he wasn't perfect. But he didn't deserve to die," Jackie McKinley said. "Now my son's life is gone and his children don't have a father. It just could have been handled differently."

Excalibur 123
Ben Raab writer, Trevor Scott penciler
Tumblr media
Apologies for the number of blurry images.  My camera may be dying on me, not sure.  Also, there will be a brief hiatus after this one while I’m out of town.  I should be able to resume posting either Sunday or Tuesday, depending on how long it takes me to catch up (and I watch a baby on Mondays so it kind of eats my free time to do this)
Meggan and Brian embrace on the dock.  They are so happy to be reunited!
Tumblr media
They have floated up into the air while kissing, and Brian requests they land.  He informs Meggan that his powers aren't coming back and she's pretty shocked.  Brian thinks she's disappointed but she isn't.  She loves him.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile in Peru, the guy Nightcrawler and team just discovered attacks them using every power he's ever come in contact with against them.  Kitty yells “Nightcrawler look out!” and he leaps away.  This is....The Mimic.
Tumblr media
Nightcrawler tries to tell him they aren't his enemy.  Douglock says his mind is so messed up by the prime sentinels that he doesn't know who the enemy is.  They fight him, mainly in self-defense.
Kitty manages to free him from his bonds.  He calms down.  Kurt talks to him.  He knows the man's name is Calvin Rankin, and he was once an X-Man.  He says they aren't his enemies and they are here to help him.
Tumblr media
He starts to remember, kind of.  Then Kurt reminds him of Charles Xavier, hoping he's seen him in this research center, and then Kurt has to go and remind him about the sentinels—the “robot people”.  And Mimic flips again and shoots Cyclops beams from his eyes.  He hits Douglock, but he's okay.
Tumblr media
Back on Muir, Meggan and Brian are having tea with Moira and Rahne and y'all I love that.  TEA is my life.
Tumblr media
(This image looks weird because it’s a view through a window)  Anyway, while they're chatting, Moira asks about a wedding, Meggan teases Brian about marrying her or losing her forever, and he says fine, how about next week?
Tumblr media
Meggan's first thought is she has nothing to wear, but the other ladies take her off to help her out starting right away because a week isn't much time to plan a wedding, especially not one as lavish as the one you're going to see in issue 125...only two issues away (How is that possible that we've gone through 125 issues already?).
Tumblr media
In Peru, sentinel #5 is angry and wants to kill Excalibur, but the other one with long hair tells him to shut it and stop being a dick, because they fell for Bastion's lies and now they're stuck, with only Excalibur as their hope of rescue and redemption.
Tumblr media
Kurt tries teleporting fast to distract and confuse Mimic but he just starts turning blue.  And he has figured out how to phase and knows all Kitty's martial arts, too.
Tumblr media
Kitty and Kurt crumble in a corner, cowering, calling to Colossus.  (Sorry, had to do it)  Piotr starts to hit him, but he's already learned to mimic his metal skin.  Piotr goes down.
Tumblr media
Just an aside. This issue has more ads than radio these days.  Seriously, like every other damn page.  Anyway.
Mimic says they're like the other X-Men and he thinks they're going to try to shock him.  He tosses Douglock at Kurt, who says he's discovered Mimic's weakness and whispers to Douglock what it is.
Tumblr media
In London, Meggan is trying on wedding dresses and hates basically all of them.
Tumblr media
She's tried on 15 dresses in three hours, and one by one they are rejected. Too prissy, says Rahne; too trampy says Moira.
Tumblr media
Then at last...she finds the dress.
In Peru, Douglock leaps onto Mimic's back, Kurt yells to Piotr to help Douglock. Douglock shocks him with everything he's got.
Tumblr media
The dome disintegrates and the sentinels realize they're free at last.  They fly away and the one with long hair feels sorry for what they did.
Tumblr media
Kitty says they're escaping and Kurt says to let them go.  He says they have to find a way to forgive them and pray “they never find it in themselves to commit them again.”
Tumblr media
Kurt starts to ask Mimic, who's finally reverting to a human-looking state, about the professor.  Kitty and Piotr both advise against grilling him, but Kurt just wants to know if there was any mention of the professor.
Tumblr media
Mimic says no. Why?
Kurt walks away pretty sad.
Tumblr media
On the flight home, Kitty and Kurt have a talk.
Tumblr media
She says the mission wasn't a complete failure.  They saved the prime sentinels and saved the Mimic, which are both good things that wouldn't have happened if not for him.  She says, “It may feel like you let the professor down by not fighting on the front lines during the war against bastion. Which you probably think means you're less than the leader—less than the X-Man—he trained you to be...but you were out there fighting for his dream.  You just did it on other fronts, with the rest of us.  We don't have to be “X-Men” to do that y'know.”
He says it sounds like she's trying to justify Excalibur's existence.  She says maybe but remember what Charles always said, “Once an X-Man, always an X-Man.”  Kurt says he couldn't forget that.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile in London, they've finished shopping but Meggan's acting a little down. When pressed, she says there's something she should probably tell Brian.
I think it's Moira who says, “About Piotr?” and Meggan is surprised she knows. She says it wasn't hard to miss the sparks.
Tumblr media
Meggan says it was just a crush when she was lonely and she never stopped loving Brian.  She wants to know if she should tell him, and they don't really answer.  Well shit, thinks Meggan.
Tumblr media
Does this remind you of anything?  Maybe....Kitty and Pete?

Bushfires reach Melbourne as heatwave fans Australia blazes
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hundreds of blazes are burning across Australia, which is experiencing a devastating summer bushfire season fuelled by a prolonged drought and climate change
Around 100,000 people were urged to flee five Melbourne suburbs on Monday evening as Australia’s spiralling bushfire crisis killed a volunteer firefighter battling a separate blaze in the countryside.
Authorities in the country’s second-biggest city downgraded an earlier bushfire emergency warning but said residents should steer clear of the blaze, which has burned through 40 hectares (nearly 100 acres) of grassland.
In Bundoora—just 16 kilometres (10 miles) north of the city centre and home to two major Australian university campuses—the fire‘s spread toward houses had been halted for now but it was yet to be brought under control, said Victoria Emergency.
Local media showed images of water bombers flying over neighbourhoods, and families hosing down their homes in the hope of halting the fire’s spread.
A volunteer firefighter died in New South Wales state and two others suffered burns while working on a blaze more than five hours south-west of Sydney, the Rural Fire Service said.
“It’s believed that the truck rolled when hit by extreme winds,” the agency said in a tweet.
Ten others, including two volunteer firefighters, have been killed so far this fire season.
The crisis has focused attention on climate change—which scientists say is creating a longer and more intense bushfire season—and sparked street protests calling for immediate action to tackle global warming.
Tumblr media
Bushfires have brought destruction to millions of hectares of Australia this summer
While conservative Prime Minister Scott Morrison belatedly acknowledged a link between the fires and climate change, he has continued his staunch support of Australia’s lucrative coal mining industry and ruled out further action to reduce emissions.
The blazes have also destroyed more than 1,000 homes and scorched more than three million hectares (7.4 million acres)—an area bigger than Belgium.
A heatwave sweeping the country Monday fuelled the latest destruction in Australia’s devastating summer fire season, which has been turbocharged by a prolonged drought and climate change.
Conditions worsened on Friday with high winds and temperatures soaring across the country—reaching 47 degrees Celsius (117 Fahrenheit) in Western Australia and topping 40 degrees in every region—including the usually temperate island of Tasmania.
More than a dozen blazes are also raging in Victoria’s East Gippsland countryside, where authorities said “quite a number” of the 30,000 tourists visiting the usually picturesque region had heeded calls to evacuate.
Some of the fires were burning so intensely that hundreds of firefighters were pulled back beyond a front estimated to stretch 1,000 kilometres (600 miles).
It was deemed “unsafe” for them to remain in bushland areas, Gippsland fire incident controller Ben Rankin said, describing the situation as “very intense”.
Tumblr media

‘Too late to leave’
Authorities had warned tourists enjoying Australia’s summer holidays in East Gippsland that the fires would cut off the last major road still open.
Victoria Emergency Management commissioner Andrew Crisp said residents and holiday makers still in the area faced being stranded as it was now “too late to leave”, with his agency warning it was “not possible” to provide aid to all visitors in the area.
Neighbouring South Australia is also experiencing “catastrophic” fire conditions.
The Country Fire Service’s Brenton Eden said it would be a “very dangerous” day for people in the state, with “dry” thunderstorms—which produce thunder and lightning but no rain—already sparking a number of fires, including an emergency-level blaze on Kangaroo Island.
“Winds are gusting and unfortunately this is a dry lightning front that is going to move rapidly across South Australia,” he told national broadcaster ABC.
Conditions were also expected to deteriorate in worst-hit New South Wales, where 100 fires were burning Monday morning including more than 40 uncontained.
Tumblr media
This season’s bushfires have killed 10 people, destroyed more than 1,000 homes and scorched more than three million hectares (7.4 million acres)—an area bigger than Belgium
Sydney and other major cities have been shrouded in toxic bushfire smoke haze for weeks, forcing children to play indoors and causing professional sporting events to be cancelled.
The capital Canberra has cancelled its New Year’s Eve fireworks display due to a total fire ban in the Australia Capital Territory, while several regional towns have also followed suit.
A petition to cancel Sydney’s famous New Year’s Eve fireworks and use the money to fight bushfires ringing the city has topped 270,000 signatures, but officials say the show will go on.
Sydney has spent Aus$6.5 million ($4.5 million) on this year’s fireworks display—funds that the Change.org petition argues would be better spent on supporting volunteer firefighters and farmers suffering through a brutal drought.

Chicago Police Officers Save 13-Year-Old Boy In South Chicago CHICAGO (CBS) — There’s new video of the moment two Chicago police officers made a decision that saved the life of a 13-year-old boy in South Chicago. Swaysee Rankin was walking with his 14-year-old cousin Monday night at 82nd and Coles when someone in a red Jeep shot the teens then drove off. Two CPD officers were first to the scene. READ MORE: Community Group Offers Small Business, Summer Event Grants To Fight Financial Toll Of COVID-19 Pandemic They said Rankin’s injuries were very serious. In video shared on the Citizen app, you can see Officers Julius Givens and Rhonda Ward from the 4th  (South Chicago) District carrying Rankin to their squad car. They said they didn’t have time to wait for EMS, so they took him to Comer’s Children’s Hospital themselves. Both officers talked about that quick response. And that sped up our process.” Both teens are recovering in the hospital. The Daily Thistle
The Daily Thistle – News From Scotland
Tuesday 3rd July 2018
"Madainn Mhath” …Fellow Scot, I hope the day brings joy to you…. Not a drop of wind is blowing this morning and it’s warm, 26c it’s been similar weather in parts of Scotland for quite a few days now, so you would think that people who share their lives with Dogs, would understand that it gets very hot inside a car with the windows closed when the damn sun is shining on it! It’s not just a Scottish thing to do.. When I lived in Arizona people would return to find that the window of their cars had been knocked out by the local police and the dog/dogs inside taken to the pound, because of the excessive heat, I guess there are idiots all over the world…
POLICE IN NORTH EAST FIFE RESCUE 'BOILING' DOG FROM CAR…. A dog owner is to be charged after police smashed a car window to rescue a dog which was inside in record-breaking heat. After the incident in North East Fife, officers said the animal was "boiling". The dog was given water and taken to a vet for checks. The vet was later reported to have "no further concerns" about the animal. Officers have again called for people not to leave animals in vehicles during hot weather.
HOAX COASTGUARD DISTRESS CALL RELEASED BY POLICE…. A recording of hoax distress call which sparked a major rescue operation has been released by police. The mayday radio message was received on 18 June reporting that a boat with people on board was in trouble in the Moray Firth Three lifeboats, a coastguard helicopter and fishing vessels joined the operation but nothing was found. Police said the call was believed to have been made from the Banff and Macduff area. The caller appears to say: "Mayday, mayday, mayday. Silver Tide, Silver Tide. Three P.O.B. Abandon ship. Abandon. Off Tarlair." Insp Megan Heathershaw said she hoped that by taking the unusual step of releasing the audio, police would be able to trace the person responsible. She said: "Any distress call made to the emergency services will be taken seriously and these calls have led to the intensive use of time and resources by the coastguard and other emergency services. "We have taken the relatively unusual step of releasing a copy of this call to the public and appeal for help in identifying the person responsible. "I would ask for anyone who recognises the voice on the transmission to please contact us as soon as possible. "Likewise I would also appeal to this person directly to get in touch with us. "We would ask that anyone with information gets in touch with police on 101 using reference number PS-20180619-1402. Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
LOGANAIR POSTS LOSSES OF NEARLY £9M…. Scottish operator Loganair has reported a pre-tax loss of £8.93m for the year to March 2018. The airline, based at Glasgow Airport, has blamed the end of its franchise agreement with Flybe. This resulted in the airlines competing directly on six routes, including five in the Highlands and Islands. Without the non-recurring items associated with the airline's former partner, Loganair would have recorded an underlying pre-tax profit of £2.95m. After the break-up with Flybe, Loganair spent £2.98m re-establishing its own brand and back-office functions. Delays in code-sharing agreements with new business partners cost a further £2.09m. But the biggest loss has been attributed to a price war with Flybe, estimated by Loganair to have cost it £6.8m. Chairman David Harrison said: "This year's results bring to an end 17 consecutive years in profit for Loganair, and the fact that we forecast last year that we would be loss-making in 2017/18 makes it no less painful. "The extent of the loss is a direct result of competition on six of our eight largest routes, and from the outset we maintained that the markets on these routes were simply not big enough to sustain the level of seat capacity being introduced. "This indeed proved to the case." Managing director Jonathan Hinkles said the airline's customers had remained loyal to it. Loganair did manage to increase turnover, by 7% to £110.7m. Passenger numbers were also up by 6.2%, to a record high for the airline of 812,541. Managing director Jonathan Hinkles said: "We have carried out a full rebrand, repainted our aircraft in tartan livery, introduced new crew and ground staff uniform, brought in a comprehensive system of service improvements for our customers and launched a significant sales and marketing programme - a tremendous effort by the whole Loganair team.
TEENAGERS HURT IN EDINBURGH MASS STREET BRAWL….Two teenage boys have been hurt in a mass street brawl near a police station in Edinburgh. A large group of youths were reported to be involved in the fight on High Street in Portobello at about 17:00 on Monday. One 15-year-old and a 17-year-old were left with facial injuries. Police are looking for witnesses to help them establish exactly how many people were involved and to try to trace them. Det Sgt Mark Lumsden, from the Violence Reduction Unit, said: "At this time, we do not know how many people have been part of this altercation, or what the reason for it was. "As such, we are keen to hear from members of the public who were in the High Street area on Monday afternoon and witnessed what happened. "In addition, anyone who can help us identify any suspects for this incident should also contact police immediately."
SCOTTISH BORDERS CEMETERIES LEFT IN 'TATTY STATE'…. A council is to be asked to reverse a decision to change its grass-cutting regime amid claims it has left cemeteries in a "tatty state". The Scottish Borders local authority recently switched from a 10-day to a 20-day cycle. Opposition councillor Jim Brown said the situation was "disrespectful to those no longer with us". The council has said the change was based on a successful trial, but added there had been "some challenges". Mr Brown is expected to raise the issue at a full council meeting and ask the authority to go back to a 10-day cycle, writes local democracy reporter Joseph Anderson. He said he had raised the issue last month due to the "disgraceful state" of Castlewood Cemetery in Jedburgh. "The problem isn't just confined to the Cheviot area: across the Borders from Peebles to Chirnside there is anger from the public specifically at the long grass and the unsightly state of our cemeteries," he said. "There were even a group of callants in the Peebles Beltane parade last Saturday, dressed as skeletons, who were mocking the mess that has been made of our cemeteries. "But there is a serious side to this. "The public are complaining, with justification, that they pay the council for a burial plot and that payment should be used, in part, to maintain cemeteries to an acceptable standard." He said the cemeteries were a "disgrace to the council". The issue was raised at last week's meeting of the Teviotdale area partnership, where council officers came face-to-face with residents and community councillors. The council's neighbourhood manager, Jason Headley, explained the rationale behind the decision. He said it had been agreed that "significant savings" could be made - some of them from grass-cutting and maintenance.
"Clearly, though, if you don't cut the grass as often, then between those cuts the grass will be longer.

'It's the families who are going to pay': Some N.S. operators say the push for $10/day daycare could backfire
Some private daycare operators in Nova Scotia say parents could end up paying a lot more for their services unless the province amends an agreement with Ottawa for $10 a day childcare.
As CTV News reported Monday, operators say the few options they've been presented would either mean going out of business or losing government subsidies.
"We are encouraging the premier to make this right," said Lisa Beddow, president and CEO of the FFL Group of Companies, which operates about 420 daycare spaces in several locations.
The Rankin Government originally signed on to the Federal Childcare Program shortly before the 2021 summer election.
Details on the $10/day daycare goal have been sorted out individually with each province, including New Brunswick, which pledged $53 million as its share shortly before Christmas.
Nova Scotia operators say they were stunned last week to learn they were limited to three options for participating in the program: stay private, become non-profit, or opt out and lose their subsidies.
Beddow says the first two options will amount to pennies on the dollar.
"It's about two per cent of our investment is what we've been offered. And, if we decide to go non-profit, which is Option B, it's about four per cent," said Beddow, who says she's been leading a group of about 194 private operators in the fight.
As it stands, many are leaning towards staying private, and raising their rates to make-up for lost revenue.
Beddow predicts this will make $10/day daycare hard to find.
"It's the families who are going to pay," she said.
Understandably, the $10 goal is popular with parents.
"When I heard $10 a day, I told my mom I was never moving back to the states," said Dana Jackson, a young Halifax mother who's originally from Connecticut.
With a 16-month-old daughter in daycare, and a new baby due in less than a month, Jackson worries about the bigger picture, and keeping the exceptional care her daughter gets now.
"The quality, if that went down, I think I would be super unhappy with our provider for sure," said Jackson.
In a late afternoon statement to CTV News, a spokesperson for the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development said government is still working on the file, but made no promises to amend the deal.
"Our commitment to families is to provide affordable, accessible, inclusive and high quality childcare, and we will continue to work towards that commitment through the NS-Canada Wide Agreement," said spokesperson Lynette Macleod via email.
"We recognize the sector’s expertise, knowledge and passion for providing quality childcare. That is why we issued an Expression of Interest in October and used the valuable feedback to inform options for businesses under the new system. In December, businesses were offered $15,000 to access professional services to help them make decisions that are in their best interest. Ultimately, this is the beginning of the conversation. We recognize there is a lot of information to process and we will work hand-in-hand with licensed for-profit childcare providers to ensure a smooth transition so that they understand what these changes mean for their business and how they can ultimately become part of the new Canada-Wide Child Care system."
Unconfirmed reports suggest the issue is on the agenda for Wednesday's cabinet meeting.
Operators say, if it's not, there will be a lot of rough water ahead for government, and ultimately parents, who depend on their services.

#1 Georgia Tech vs #2 Auburn
Saturday: Game 4 – 6-5 W
Chills…that’s all I can say. It was almost like I had seen this before…I saw it in 97…I saw it in 2010…and we all saw it Saturday night in Atlanta. Auburn did everything it could to ensure Tech had the win, from dropped balls that led to Tech runs, to swinging at first pitches and not working the count against a pitcher that tried to expand the zone, to hitting into 4…count them FOUR double plays (for those counting, you can only hit in to 9 for a game). Even in the 9th, the Tigers found themselves down to their last strike…but there were some positives before that. Richard Fitts came in to relieve Tanner Burns after just 3 innings of work and worked a masterpiece, going 6 innings of 4 hit ball with 4 Ks and no walks. Fitts was able to keep the Jackets off the board, give the offense time to figure out Tech starter Connor Thomas AND (maybe more importantly) saved the Auburn bullpen to keep it as fresh as possible. As for the offense, it was rough going for the first 8 innings as Auburn could only muster 4 hits, highlighted by a Ryan Bliss solo home run in the 1st which started the scoring and an RBI base hit in the 6th as Auburn tried to chip away. Then came the bottom of the 9th, Conor Davis was able to beat out an error by the short stop and Holland was hit by a pitch to get a couple of runners on for Auburn. Tech would get the next two out to push Auburn to the brink. Rankin Woley would follow up with a single through the left side to drive in a run and set the stage for Steven Williams.

I scared the dog I freaked out so much. I called my dad who was already laughing. It’s the moment we’ve been waiting for with this team all year. It’s the moment we hoped for this weekend, after the past two weeks this community has been through. It was exactly what was needed.
Now comes the fun part. Putting this win, the biggest of the season to this point, in the rear view and getting ready for the next biggest game of the year that happens to be tomorrow afternoon at Russ Chandler Stadium.
Around Atlanta
#4 Florida A&M vs #3 Coastal Carolina – 9-4 Coastal, FAMU Eliminated
Not to much to see here as the Chants led the entire way and they now prepare for an 11 am start against Georgia Tech for the chance at playing the Tigers in the night cap and hope to get things to Monday.
Other Scores of Interest from the Tournament
All SEC teams have advanced to play on Sunday as Tennessee, Florida and Texas A&M won their first elimination games. LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and Arkansas join Auburn in the 2-0 club while Georgia dropped their game to FSU and will have to fight to keep their season alive twice tomorrow and once on Monday.
The main score of note from Saturday outside of the SEC was Creighton eliminating the defending champs Oregon State 4-1. The Beavers become only the 3rd team in the history of the tournament to go 0-2 the year after winning it all.
On Deck
Game 5 - #3 Coastal Carolina vs #1 Georgia Tech – 11 am
Game 6 - #2 Auburn vs TBA – 5 pm
For the 3rd year in a row, Auburn finds themselves as the 2-0 team in the Regional Final playing for a chance to go to the Supers with one more win. Auburn’s bullpen is in as good of shape as you could hope for with Richard Fitts saving the arms for the Sunday evening final. I expect Auburn to go with Brooks Fuller, hoping the freshman can give them 3 innings or so and then handing things over to Cody Greenhill for as long as he wants it. Auburn does have other arms in the arsenal as well, Garrett Wade, Will Morrison, Blake Schilleci and even Elliott Anderson could give an inning. The best news of all is that both Tech and Coastal will be going with their 4th option on the mound which could prove the most important part of the equation. We will find out tomorrow, but the most important thing is that the Tigers are playing for another regional title after pulling this win out of the fire!

President Donald Trump delivered his third State of the Union address before a joint session of Congress on Tuesday night.
Trump’s speech came as his impeachment trial approaches its end — Senators will vote Wednesday on whether or not to remove the President from office.
During Tuesday’s speech, which lasted about an hour and a half, Trump spoke about the economy, healthcare, and border security. He also awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh.
Trump’s 2020 State of the Union guests included a widow of an American soldier who was killed while serving in Iraq, the brother of a man who was shot and killed by an undocumented immigrant in California, and the Deputy Chief of U.S. Border Patrol.
Democrats brought guests as well: Democratic Rep. Gerry Connolly said that he would bring the fiancée of slain journalist Jamal Khashoggi, while Democratic Rep. Jackie Speier said Monday that she would bring Courtney Wild, a woman who testified in federal court that Jeffrey Epstein sexually abused her.
Some Democrats, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, said they would skip Trump’s State of the Union, citing his ongoing impeachment.
Trump’s speech was followed by a Democratic response from Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, whose priorities while running for governor in 2018 included infrastructure and health care reform.
Read the full transcript of Trump’s 2020 State of the Union address, as prepared for delivery, below:
Madam Speaker, Mr. Vice President, Members of Congress, the First Lady of the United States, and my fellow citizens:
Three years ago, we launched the great American comeback. Tonight, I stand before you to share the incredible results. Jobs are booming, incomes are soaring, poverty is plummeting, crime is falling, confidence is surging, and our country is thriving and highly respected again! America’s enemies are on the run, America’s fortunes are on the rise, and America’s future is blazing bright.
The years of economic decay are over. The days of our country being used, taken advantage of, and even scorned by other nations are long behind us. Gone too are the broken promises, jobless recoveries, tired platitudes, and constant excuses for the depletion of American wealth, power, and prestige.
In just 3 short years, we have shattered the mentality of American decline, and we have rejected the downsizing of America’s destiny. We are moving forward at a pace that was unimaginable just a short time ago, and we are never going back!
I am thrilled to report to you tonight that our economy is the best it has ever been. Our military is completely rebuilt, with its power being unmatched anywhere in the world — and it is not even close. Our borders are secure. Our families are flourishing. Our values are renewed. Our pride is restored. And for all these reasons, I say to the people of our great country, and to the Members of Congress before me: The State of our Union is stronger than ever before!
The vision I will lay out this evening demonstrates how we are building the world’s most prosperous and inclusive society — one where every citizen can join in America’s unparalleled success, and where every community can take part in America’s extraordinary rise.
From the instant I took office, I moved rapidly to revive the United States economy — slashing a record number of job-killing regulations, enacting historic and record-setting tax cuts, and fighting for fair and reciprocal trade agreements. Our agenda is relentlessly pro-worker, pro-family, pro-growth, and, most of all, pro-American. We are advancing with unbridled optimism and lifting high our citizens of every race, color, religion, and creed.
Since my election, we have created 7 million new jobs — 5 million more than Government experts projected during the previous administration.
The unemployment rate is the lowest in over half a century.
Incredibly, the average unemployment rate under my Administration is lower than any administration in the history of our country. If we had not reversed the failed economic policies of the previous administration, the world would not now be witness to America’s great economic success.
The unemployment rates for African-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, and Asian-Americans have reached the lowest levels in history. African-American youth unemployment has reached an all-time low.
African-American poverty has declined to the lowest rate ever recorded.
The unemployment rate for women reached the lowest level in almost 70 years — and last year, women filled 72 percent of all new jobs added.
The veterans’ unemployment rate dropped to a record low.
The unemployment rate for disabled Americans has reached an all-time low.
Workers without a high school diploma have achieved the lowest unemployment rate recorded in United States history.
A record number of young Americans are now employed.
Under the last administration, more than 10 million people were added to the food stamp rolls. Under my Administration, 7 million Americans have come off of food stamps, and 10 million people have been lifted off of welfare.
In 8 years under the last administration, over 300,000 working-age people dropped out of the workforce. In just 3 years of my Administration, 3.5 million working-age people have joined the workforce.
Since my election, the net worth of the bottom half of wage-earners has increased by 47 percent — 3 times faster than the increase for the top 1 percent. After decades of flat and falling incomes, wages are rising fast — and, wonderfully, they are rising fastest for low-income workers, who have seen a 16 percent pay-increase since my election. This is a blue collar boom.
Real median household income is now at the highest level ever recorded!
Since my election, United States stock markets have soared 70 percent, adding more than $12 trillion to our Nation’s wealth, transcending anything anyone believed was possible — this, as other countries are not doing well. Consumer confidence has reached amazing new heights.
All of those millions of people with 401(k)s and pensions are doing far better than they have ever done before with increases of 60, 70, 80, 90, and even 100 percent.
Jobs and investment are pouring into 9,000 previously-neglected neighborhoods thanks to Opportunity Zones, a plan spearheaded by Senator Tim Scott as part of our great Republican tax cuts. In other words, wealthy people and companies are pouring money into poor neighborhoods or areas that have not seen investment in many decades, creating jobs, energy, and excitement. This is the first time that these deserving communities have seen anything like this. It is all working!
Opportunity Zones are helping Americans like Army Veteran Tony Rankins from Cincinnati, Ohio. After struggling with drug addiction, Tony lost his job, his house, and his family — he was homeless. But then Tony found a construction company that invests in Opportunity Zones. He is now a top tradesman, drug-free, reunited with his family, and he is here tonight. Tony: Keep up the great work.
Our roaring economy has, for the first time ever, given many former prisoners the ability to get a great job and a fresh start. This second chance at life is made possible because we passed landmark Criminal Justice Reform into law. Everybody said that Criminal Justice Reform could not be done, but I got it done, and the people in this room got it done.
Thanks to our bold regulatory reduction campaign, the United States has become the number one producer of oil and natural gas in the world, by far. With the tremendous progress we have made over the past 3 years, America is now energy independent, and energy jobs, like so many elements of our country, are at a record high. We are doing numbers that no one would have thought possible just 3 years ago.
Likewise, we are restoring our Nation’s manufacturing might, even though predictions were that this could never be done. After losing 60,000 factories under the previous two administrations, America has now gained 12,000 new factories under my Administration with thousands upon thousands of plants and factories being planned or built. We have created over half a million new manufacturing jobs. Companies are not leaving; they are coming back. Everybody wants to be where the action is, and the United States of America is, indeed, where the action is.
One of the single biggest promises I made to the American people was to replace the disastrous NAFTA trade deal. In fact, unfair trade is perhaps the single biggest reason that I decided to run for President. Following NAFTA’s adoption, our Nation lost one in four manufacturing jobs. Many politicians came and went, pledging to change or replace NAFTA — only to do absolutely nothing. But unlike so many who came before me, I keep my promises. Six days ago, I replaced NAFTA and signed the brand new United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) into law.
The USMCA will create nearly 100,000 new high-paying American auto jobs, and massively boost exports for our farmers, ranchers, and factory workers. It will also bring trade with Mexico and Canada to a much higher degree, but also to a much greater level of fairness and reciprocity. This is the first major trade deal in many years to earn the strong backing of America’s labor unions.
I also promised our citizens that I would impose tariffs to confront China’s massive theft of American jobs. Our strategy worked. Days ago, we signed the groundbreaking new agreement with China that will defend our workers, protect our intellectual property, bring billions of dollars into our treasury, and open vast new markets for products made and grown right here in the United States of America. For decades, China has taken advantage of the United States, now we have changed that but, at the same time, we have perhaps the best relationship we have ever had with China, including with President Xi. They respect what we have done because, quite frankly, they could never believe what they were able to get away with year after year, decade after decade, without someone in our country stepping up and saying: Enough. Now, we want to rebuild our country, and that is what we are doing.
As we restore American leadership throughout the world, we are once again standing up for freedom in our hemisphere. That is why my Administration reversed the failing policies of the previous administration on Cuba. We are supporting the hopes of Cubans, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans to restore democracy. The United States is leading a 59-nation diplomatic coalition against the socialist dictator of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro. Maduro is an illegitimate ruler, a tyrant who brutalizes his people. But Maduro’s grip of tyranny will be smashed and broken. Here this evening is a man who carries with him the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of all Venezuelans. Joining us in the gallery is the true and legitimate President of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó. Mr. President, please take this message back to your homeland. All Americans are united with the Venezuelan people in their righteous struggle for freedom! Socialism destroys nations. But always remember, freedom unifies the soul.
To safeguard American Liberty, we have invested a record-breaking $2.2 trillion in the United States Military. We have purchased the finest planes, missiles, rockets, ships, and every other form of military equipment — all made in the United States of America. We are also finally getting our allies to help pay their fair share. I have raised contributions from the other NATO members by more than $400 billion, and the number of allies meeting their minimum obligations has more than doubled.
And just weeks ago, for the first time since President Truman established the Air Force more than 70 years earlier, we created a new branch of the United States Armed Forces, the Space Force.
In the gallery tonight, we have one of the Space Force’s youngest potential recruits: 13-year-old Iain Lanphier, an eighth grader from Arizona. Iain has always dreamed of going to space. He was first in his class and among the youngest at an aviation academy. He aspires to go to the Air Force Academy, and then, he has his eye on the Space Force. As Iain says, “most people look up at space, I want to look down on the world.”
Sitting beside Iain tonight is his great hero. Charles McGee was born in Cleveland, Ohio, one century ago. Charles is one of the last surviving Tuskegee Airmen — the first black fighter pilots — and he also happens to be Iain’s great-grandfather. After more than 130 combat missions in World War II, he came back to a country still struggling for Civil Rights and went on to serve America in Korea and Vietnam. On December 7th, Charles celebrated his 100th birthday. A few weeks ago, I signed a bill promoting Charles McGee to Brigadier General. And earlier today, I pinned the stars on his shoulders in the Oval Office. General McGee: Our Nation salutes you.
From the pilgrims to our Founders, from the soldiers at Valley Forge to the marchers at Selma, and from President Lincoln to the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Americans have always rejected limits on our children’s future.
Members of Congress, we must never forget that the only victories that matter in Washington are victories that deliver for the American people. The people are the heart of our country, their dreams are the soul of our country, and their love is what powers and sustains our country. We must always remember that our job is to put America first!
The next step forward in building an inclusive society is making sure that every young American gets a great education and the opportunity to achieve the American Dream. Yet, for too long, countless American children have been trapped in failing government schools. To rescue these students, 18 States have created school choice in the form of Opportunity Scholarships. The programs are so popular, that tens of thousands of students remain on waiting lists. One of those students is Janiyah Davis, a fourth grader from Philadelphia. Janiyah’s mom Stephanie is a single parent. She would do anything to give her daughter a better future. But last year, that future was put further out of reach when Pennsylvania’s Governor vetoed legislation to expand school choice for 50,000 children.
Janiyah and Stephanie are in the gallery this evening. But there is more to their story. Janiyah, I am pleased to inform you that your long wait is over. I can proudly announce tonight that an Opportunity Scholarship has become available, it is going to you, and you will soon be heading to the school of your choice!
Now, I call on the Congress to give 1 million American children the same opportunity Janiyah has just received. Pass the Education Freedom Scholarships and Opportunity Act — because no parent should be forced to send their child to a failing government school.
Every young person should have a safe and secure environment in which to learn and grow. For this reason, our magnificent First Lady has launched the “Be Best” initiative — to advance a safe, healthy, supportive, and drug-free life for the next generation, online, in school, and in our communities. Thank you, Melania, for your extraordinary love and profound care for America’s children.
My Administration is determined to give our citizens the opportunities they need regardless of age or background. Through our Pledge to American Workers, over 400 companies will also provide new jobs and education opportunities to almost 15 million Americans.
My Budget also contains an exciting vision for our Nation’s high schools. Tonight, I ask the Congress to support our students and back my plan to offer vocational and technical education in every single high school in America.
To expand equal opportunity, I am also proud that we achieved record and permanent funding for our Nation’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
A good life for American families also requires the most affordable, innovative, and high-quality healthcare system on Earth. Before I took office, health insurance premiums had more than doubled in just 5 years. I moved quickly to provide affordable alternatives. Our new plans are up to 60 percent less expensive. I have also made an ironclad pledge to American families: We will always protect patients with pre-existing conditions — that is a guarantee. And we will always protect your Medicare and your Social Security.
The American patient should never be blindsided by medical bills. That is why I signed an Executive Order requiring price transparency. Many experts believe that transparency, which will go into full effect at the beginning of next year, will be even bigger than healthcare reform. It will save families massive amounts of money for substantially better care.
But as we work to improve Americans’ healthcare, there are those who want to take away your healthcare, take away your doctor, and abolish private insurance entirely. One hundred thirty-two lawmakers in this room have endorsed legislation to impose a socialist takeover of our healthcare system, wiping out the private health insurance plans of 180 million Americans. To those watching at home tonight, I want you to know: We will never let socialism destroy American healthcare!
Over 130 legislators in this chamber have endorsed legislation that would bankrupt our Nation by providing free taxpayer-funded healthcare to millions of illegal aliens, forcing taxpayers to subsidize free care for anyone in the world who unlawfully crosses our borders. These proposals would raid the Medicare benefits our seniors depend on, while acting as a powerful lure for illegal immigration. This is what is happening in California and other States — their systems are totally out of control, costing taxpayers vast and unaffordable amounts of money. If forcing American taxpayers to provide unlimited free healthcare to illegal aliens sounds fair to you, then stand with the radical left. But if you believe that we should defend American patients and American seniors, then stand with me and pass legislation to prohibit free Government healthcare for illegal aliens!
This will be a tremendous boon to our already very-strongly guarded southern border where, as we speak, a long, tall, and very powerful wall is being built. We have now completed over 100 miles and will have over 500 miles fully completed by early next year.
My Administration is also taking on the big pharmaceutical companies. We have approved a record number of affordable generic drugs, and medicines are being approved by the FDA at a faster clip than ever before. I was pleased to announce last year that, for the first time in 51 years, the cost of prescription drugs actually went down.
And working together, the Congress can reduce drug prices substantially from current levels. I have been speaking to Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa and others in the Congress in order to get something on drug pricing done, and done properly. I am calling for bipartisan legislation that achieves the goal of dramatically lowering prescription drug prices. Get a bill to my desk, and I will sign it into law without delay.
With unyielding commitment, we are curbing the opioid epidemic — drug overdose deaths declined for the first time in nearly 30 years. Among the States hardest hit, Ohio is down 22 percent, Pennsylvania is down 18 percent, Wisconsin is down 10 percent — and we will not quit until we have beaten the opioid epidemic once and for all.
Protecting Americans’ health also means fighting infectious diseases. We are coordinating with the Chinese government and working closely together on the Coronavirus outbreak in China. My Administration will take all necessary steps to safeguard our citizens from this threat.
We have launched ambitious new initiatives to substantially improve care for Americans with kidney disease, Alzheimer’s, and those struggling with mental health challenges. And because the Congress funded my request, we are pursuing new cures for childhood cancer, and we will eradicate the AIDS epidemic in America by the end of the decade.
Almost every American family knows the pain when a loved one is diagnosed with a serious illness. Here tonight is a special man, someone beloved by millions of Americans who just received a Stage 4 advanced cancer diagnosis. This is not good news, but what is good news is that he is the greatest fighter and winner that you will ever meet. Rush Limbaugh: Thank you for your decades of tireless devotion to our country. Rush, in recognition of all that you have done for our Nation, the millions of people a day that you speak to and inspire, and all of the incredible work that you have done for charity, I am proud to announce tonight that you will be receiving our country’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. I will now ask the First Lady of the United States to please stand and present you with the honor. Rush, Kathryn, congratulations!
As we pray for all who are sick, we know that America is constantly achieving new medical breakthroughs. In 2017, doctors at St. Luke’s hospital in Kansas City delivered one of the earliest premature babies ever to survive. Born at just 21 weeks and 6 days, and weighing less than a pound, Ellie Schneider was born a fighter. Through the skill of her doctors — and the prayers of her parents — little Ellie kept on winning the battle for life. Today, Ellie is a strong, healthy 2-year-old girl sitting with her amazing mother Robin in the gallery. Ellie and Robin: We are so glad you are here.
Ellie reminds us that every child is a miracle of life. Thanks to modern medical wonders, 50 percent of very premature babies delivered at the hospital where Ellie was born now survive. Our goal should be to ensure that every baby has the best chance to thrive and grow just like Ellie. That is why I am asking the Congress to provide an additional $50 million to fund neo-natal research for America’s youngest patients. That is also why I am calling upon the Members of Congress here tonight to pass legislation finally banning the late-term abortion of babies.
Whether we are Republican, Democrat, or Independent, surely we must all agree that every human life is a sacred gift from God!
As we support America’s moms and dads, I was recently proud to sign the law providing new parents in the Federal workforce paid family leave, serving as a model for the rest of the country. Now, I call on the Congress to pass the bipartisan Advancing Support for Working Families Act, extending family leave to mothers and fathers all across the Nation.
Forty million American families have an average $2,200 extra thanks to our child tax credit. I have also overseen historic funding increases for high-quality child care, enabling 17 States to serve more children, many of which have reduced or eliminated their waitlists altogether. And I sent the Congress a plan with a vision to further expand access to high-quality childcare and urge you to act immediately.
To protect the environment, days ago, I announced that the United States will join the One Trillion Trees Initiative, an ambitious effort to bring together Government and the private sector to plant new trees in America and around the world.
We must also rebuild America’s infrastructure. I ask you to pass Senator Barrasso’s highway bill — to invest in new roads, bridges, and tunnels across our land.
I am also committed to ensuring that every citizen can have access to high-speed internet, including rural America.
A better tomorrow for all Americans also requires us to keep America safe. That means supporting the men and women of law enforcement at every level, including our Nation’s heroic ICE officers.
Last year, our brave ICE officers arrested more than 120,000 criminal aliens charged with nearly 10,000 burglaries, 5,000 sexual assaults, 45,000 violent assaults, and 2,000 murders.
Tragically, there are many cities in America where radical politicians have chosen to provide sanctuary for these criminal illegal aliens. In Sanctuary Cities, local officials order police to release dangerous criminal aliens to prey upon the public, instead of handing them over to ICE to be safely removed.
Just 29 days ago, a criminal alien freed by the Sanctuary City of New York was charged with the brutal rape and murder of a 92-year-old woman. The killer had been previously arrested for assault, but under New York’s sanctuary policies, he was set free. If the city had honored ICE’s detainer request, his victim would be alive today.
The State of California passed an outrageous law declaring their whole State to be a sanctuary for criminal illegal immigrants — with catastrophic results.
Here is just one tragic example. In December 2018, California police detained an illegal alien with five prior arrests, including convictions for robbery and assault. But as required by California’s Sanctuary Law, local authorities released him.
Days later, the criminal alien went on a gruesome spree of deadly violence. He viciously shot one man going about his daily work; he approached a woman sitting in her car and shot her in the arm and the chest. He walked into a convenience store and wildly fired his weapon. He hijacked a truck and smashed into vehicles, critically injuring innocent victims. One of the victims of his bloody rampage was a 51-year-old American named Rocky Jones. Rocky was at a gas station when this vile criminal fired eight bullets at him from close range, murdering him in cold blood. Rocky left behind a devoted family, including his brothers who loved him more than anything. One of his grieving brothers is here with us tonight. Jody, would you please stand? Jody, our hearts weep for your loss — and we will not rest until you have justice.
Senator Thom Tillis has introduced legislation to allow Americans like Jody to sue Sanctuary Cities and States when a loved one is hurt or killed as a result of these deadly policies. I ask the Congress to pass the Justice for Victims of Sanctuary Cities Act immediately. The United States of America should be a sanctuary for law-abiding Americans — not criminal aliens!
In the last 3 years, ICE has arrested over 5,000 wicked human traffickers — and I have signed 9 pieces of legislation to stamp out the menace of human trafficking, domestically and around the globe.
My Administration has undertaken an unprecedented effort to secure the southern border of the United States.
Before I came into office, if you showed up illegally on our southern border and were arrested, you were simply released and allowed into our country, never to be seen again. My Administration has ended Catch-and-Release. If you come illegally, you will now be promptly removed. We entered into historic cooperation agreements with the Governments of Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala. As a result of our unprecedented efforts, illegal crossings are down 75 percent since May — dropping 8 straight months in a row. And as the wall goes up, drug seizures rise, and border crossings go down.
Last year, I traveled to the border in Texas and met Chief Patrol Agent Raul Ortiz. Over the last 24 months, Agent Ortiz and his team have seized more than 200,000 pounds of poisonous narcotics, arrested more than 3,000 human smugglers, and rescued more than 2,000 migrants. Days ago, Agent Ortiz was promoted to Deputy Chief of Border Patrol — and he joins us tonight. Chief Ortiz: Please stand — a grateful Nation thanks you and all the heroes of Border Patrol.
To build on these historic gains, we are working on legislation to replace our outdated and randomized immigration system with one based on merit, welcoming those who follow the rules, contribute to our economy, support themselves financially, and uphold our values.
With every action, my Administration is restoring the rule of law and re-asserting the culture of American freedom. Working with Senate Majority Leader McConnell and his colleagues in the Senate, we have confirmed a record number of 187 new Federal judges to uphold our Constitution as written. This includes two brilliant new Supreme Court Justices, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh.
My Administration is also defending religious liberty, and that includes the Constitutional right to pray in public schools. In America, we do not punish prayer. We do not tear down crosses. We do not ban symbols of faith. We do not muzzle preachers and pastors. In America, we celebrate faith. We cherish religion. We lift our voices in prayer, and we raise our sights to the Glory of God!
Just as we believe in the First Amendment, we also believe in another Constitutional right that is under siege all across our country. So long as I am President I will always protect your Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.
In reaffirming our heritage as a free Nation, we must remember that America has always been a frontier nation. Now we must embrace the next frontier, America’s manifest destiny in the stars. I am asking the Congress to fully fund the Artemis program to ensure that the next man and the first woman on the moon will be American astronauts — using this as a launching pad to ensure that America is the first nation to plant its flag on Mars.
My Administration is also strongly defending our national security and combating radical Islamic terrorism. Last week, I announced a groundbreaking plan for peace between Israel and the Palestinians. Recognizing that all past attempts have failed, we must be determined and creative in order to stabilize the region and give millions of young people the change to realize a better future.
Three years ago, the barbarians of ISIS held over 20,000 square miles of territory in Iraq and Syria. Today, the ISIS territorial caliphate has been 100 percent destroyed, and the founder and leader of ISIS — the bloodthirsty killer Al‑Baghdadi — is dead!
We are joined this evening by Carl and Marsha Mueller. After graduating from college, their beautiful daughter Kayla became a humanitarian aid worker. Kayla once wrote, “Some people find God in church. Some people find God in nature. Some people find God in love; I find God in suffering. I’ve known for some time what my life’s work is, using my hands as tools to relieve suffering.” In 2013, while caring for suffering civilians in Syria, Kayla was kidnapped, tortured, and enslaved by ISIS, and kept as a prisoner of Al-Baghdadi himself. After more than 500 horrifying days of captivity, Al-Baghdadi murdered young Kayla. She was just 26 years old.
On the night that United States Special Forces Operators ended Al‑Baghdadi’s miserable life, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, received a call in the Situation Room. He was told that the brave men of the elite Special Forces team, that so perfectly carried out the operation, had given their mission a name — “Task Force 8-14.” It was a reference to a special day: August 14th — Kayla’s birthday. Carl and Marsha, America’s warriors never forgot Kayla — and neither will we.
Every day, America’s men and women in uniform demonstrate the infinite depths of love that dwells in the human heart.
One of these American heroes was Army Staff Sergeant Christopher Hake. On his second deployment to Iraq in 2008, Sergeant Hake wrote a letter to his 1-year-old son, Gage: “I will be with you again,” he wrote to Gage. “I will teach you to ride your first bike, build your first sand box, watch you play sports and see you have kids also. I love you son, take care of your mother. I am always with you. Dad.” On Easter Sunday of 2008, Chris was out on patrol in Baghdad when his Bradley Fighting Vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb. That night, he made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Sergeant Hake now rests in eternal glory in Arlington, and his wife Kelli is in the gallery tonight, joined by their son, who is now 13 years old. To Kelli and Gage: Chris will live in our hearts forever.
The terrorist responsible for killing Sergeant Hake was Qasem Soleimani, who provided the deadly roadside bomb that took Chris’s life. Soleimani was the Iranian Regime’s most ruthless butcher, a monster who murdered or wounded thousands of American service members in Iraq. As the world’s top terrorist, Soleimani orchestrated the deaths of countless men, women, and children. He directed the December assault on United States Forces in Iraq, and was actively planning new attacks. That is why, last month, at my direction, the United States Military executed a flawless precision strike that killed Soleimani and terminated his evil reign of terror forever.
Our message to the terrorists is clear: You will never escape American justice. If you attack our citizens, you forfeit your life!
In recent months, we have seen proud Iranians raise their voices against their oppressive rulers. The Iranian regime must abandon its pursuit of nuclear weapons, stop spreading terror, death, and destruction, and start working for the good of its own people. Because of our powerful sanctions, the Iranian economy is doing very poorly. We can help them make it very good in a short period of time, but perhaps they are too proud or too foolish to ask for that help. We are here. Let’s see which road they choose. It is totally up to them.
As we defend American lives, we are working to end America’s wars in the Middle East.
In Afghanistan, the determination and valor of our warfighters has allowed us to make tremendous progress, and peace talks are underway. I am not looking to kill hundreds of thousands of people in Afghanistan, many of them innocent. It is also not our function to serve other nations as a law enforcement agency. These are warfighters, the best in the world, and they either want to fight to win or not fight at all. We are working to finally end America’s longest war and bring our troops back home!
War places a heavy burden on our Nation’s extraordinary military families, especially spouses like Amy Williams from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and her 2 children — 6-year-old Elliana and 3-year-old Rowan. Amy works full time, and volunteers countless hours helping other military families. For the past 7 months, she has done it all while her husband, Sergeant First Class Townsend Williams, is in Afghanistan on his fourth deployment to the Middle East. Amy’s kids have not seen their father’s face in many months. Amy, your family’s sacrifice makes it possible for all of our families to live in safety and peace — we thank you.
As the world bears witness tonight, America is a land of heroes. This is the place where greatness is born, where destinies are forged, and where legends come to life. This is the home of Thomas Edison and Teddy Roosevelt, of many great Generals, including Washington, Pershing, Patton, and MacArthur. This is the home of Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, Amelia Earhart, Harriet Tubman, the Wright Brothers, Neil Armstrong, and so many more. This is the country where children learn names like Wyatt Earp, Davy Crockett, and Annie Oakley. This is the place where the pilgrims landed at Plymouth and where Texas patriots made their last stand at the Alamo.
The American Nation was carved out of the vast frontier by the toughest, strongest, fiercest, and most determined men and women ever to walk the face of the Earth. Our ancestors braved the unknown; tamed the wilderness; settled the Wild West; lifted millions from poverty, disease, and hunger; vanquished tyranny and fascism; ushered the world to new heights of science and medicine; laid down the railroads, dug out canals, raised up the skyscrapers — and, ladies and gentlemen, our ancestors built the most exceptional Republic ever to exist in all of human history. And we are making it greater than ever before!
This is our glorious and magnificent inheritance.
We are Americans. We are the pioneers. We are the pathfinders. We settled the new world, we built the modern world, and we changed history forever by embracing the eternal truth that everyone is made equal by the hand of Almighty God.
America is the place where anything can happen! America is the place where anyone can rise. And here, on this land, on this soil, on this continent, the most incredible dreams come true!
This Nation is our canvas, and this country is our masterpiece. We look at tomorrow and see unlimited frontiers just waiting to be explored. Our brightest discoveries are not yet known. Our most thrilling stories are not yet told. Our grandest journeys are not yet made. The American Age, the American Epic, the American Adventure, has only just begun!
Our spirit is still young; the sun is still rising; God’s grace is still shining; and my fellow Americans, the best is yet to come!
Thank you. God Bless You. God Bless America.
