So, as a Christmas Gift to myself, I commissioned a comic idea I'd been toying with for years. Namely, Nico Minoru using References as spellcasting words. I also worked in some other ideas for her I've been playing with.

I'm really happy with how it came out.

Uncanny X-Men: The Heroic Age

This is so often the part of this conversation people don't post, and I hate that this, and what comes after it, don't get more play, because this is Hank McCoy. You can reach back into the Silver Age as far as you like, but this is who Hank actually is.

He's the guy who reaches out.

He's the guy who sees someone in pain and can't stop himself from helping them. The guy felt sympathy for Mister Sinister's love for a Hollywood starlet when Jean didn't get it, and she's the one that's always mentioned as being the heart of the X-Men. He's the one who adopted Wonder Man like a stray puppy despite their first meeting being a fight. He's the guy who reached out to Emma Frost during New X-Men and became her friend.

Even in the midst of utmost depression and desolation and hopelessness, he still finds it within himself to reach out to Molly and be there for her when she's just so righteously angry and upset. And he uplifts her, even in a moment when he himself is so low and without direction, where he isn't sure that anything is going to work out.

I absolutely adore his speech to Molly here, and it is so true. If you only have one chance, if you only have one life, if you're the last generation, then isn't it just the only thing to do? To live as loud and wild and happy and fully as possible? Only Hank can take something as depressing as the Decimation, and turn it into the ultimate form of optimistic nihilism. Nothing you do matters anymore, so make it matter. Define your own meaning. Be brilliant on your own terms.
