Been playing a few campaigns of 5e dnd, some long term, and others modules, when you play, do you prefer modules, homebrew, or a mix of the 2?

Depends! They all have their benefits and drawbacks, and the GM has to be able to improvise either way when the party gets off track. It can really depend on the group, on the GM, and on the game mechanics and story being told in general.

So a mix is fine by me; sometimes you want a module to do a lot of the work for you while also playing through a neat story someone else wrote, sometimes you get a bug in your brain to do a story on your own and pull together what's needed for it.

And some games and groups are just more conducive to each style than others; GM experience can be a factor, too. I'd say keeping players on course for a module, or a series of modules (like Pathfinder's adventure paths) can be more difficult in some ways, if you don't know how to loop a party back on course.

As usual, it really boils down to communication between the GM and the players, and among each other, to be aware of what kind of story is being run, expectations and preferences, and making something to more or less fit with the expected scope and planned ideas at the outset.

We designed these adventures to be pretty easy to adapt to any game of your choosing.
