having a "former gifted kid" type mental spiral

#i say this because the spiral is actually about how much i hate the word and the general culture around giftedness #mostly because its incredibly inconsistent between schools so people often mean different things when they say it #but also because in my specific case its certainly not a gift but like. what am i supposed to call it. #its literally a neurodivergence in my case that has had many effect postive and negative on my life. but its also a school club. #and its also nothing! before the advent of like modern standardized public education i wouldve just been a curious kid #Without modern public education im not sure i wouldve even been different from other kids. maybe a little socially awkward still but idk #and like. Am i really different from other kids? am I now as an adult different from my peers? Occasionally i will get told as such #how the fuck am i suppose to talk about how much being seperated from my peers and held to higher standards sucked #when the name of the reason why this happened might as well be 'gods specialist little boy' #none of the things that make people think im smarter are really all that useful day to day. and most non-gifted people are like. still smar #i happen to be good at memorizing the kind of facts schools test you on as children #but is that just because i was told as a kid to be good at school and so i tried hard to do that? #even if I am uniquely good at that #does that really make me more intelligent than the high school dropouts who can fix cars like its nothing? #in fact i would say they are at least wiser than me for picking something practical to be smart at #at my school being gifted usually implied you were a little neurodivergent and bad at socializing #often our gifted kids were actually failing classes because they were smart enough to realize they didnt matter #(not me but still) #but at some schools being gifted just means you were an avid reader or were pressured by your parents to maintain perfect As at all times #so if i say. wanted to talk about how being 'gifted' has often made some aspects of academia like hating emails and having time blindness #and not having a good friend network and having many unadressed issues around not really knowing how to make friends #if i wanted to talk about that. and i say 'I was gifted growing up and this sucked' #the person on the other end might hear 'oh woe is me im so smart and this makes my life so hard' #AND FURTHER STILL #on tumblr especially 'former gifted kid' has kindve become parlance for 'guy whining about nothing' #or even 'person who they were told was smart but is actually kinda dumb' #which... yeah! theres a reason many former gifted kids are like that! thats kindve my issue with the program in the first place! #it takes otherwise relatively normal if well achieving kids and tells them they are gods specialist little children. #THIS CANNOT BE HELPFUL TO ANYONE? like whatever chance the kids had at seeming normal has been stripped away #and they now also think they are the smartest person in the room in every situation

Y’all realize having an account on tumblr is giving tumblr money right? Logging in everyday and scrolling through posts gives them ad revenue, posting on their site boosts their SEO and brings in more users, talking about tumblr on other sites and platforms makes it more known and all of this serves to increase the theoretical ‘value’ of the site. I agree that we shouldn’t be giving tumblr our hard earned cash because they do suck, but let’s not get too holier-than-though because you’re still using this site everyday which in very direct terms ‘gives the site money’

Hi! I asked a few months back about Muzan's speech and grammatical forms etc and as a big language nerd I've come back to ask if you could explain Kokushibo's? He has a very unique way of talking—I'm so curious about those ellipsises lol—and I've read a few times that his dialect is a very old one and I'm so interested about this. I always try to understand the character's voice as best as I can as a fanfiction writer and it'd help so much to understand his.

I also want to say I have so much respect for you, oh my Goddd. I live and die for nerds. Nerds are the best. They keep the planet going. I love your enthusiasm and your passion and it genuinely makes me smile. People like you are the coolest.

After such exceeding praise, I... am humbled to admit... my nerdery... has limits......... and I may not have super insightful things to say about this speech pattern apart from... yes... He... takes his time.

While he might use uncommon words, his speech is... at least to my knowledge and this isn't my area of expertise... written in a modern grammatical style, so there was no Sengoku-accurate classical Japanese thrown in which would throw off the typical Shounen Jump reader--nor does it feel slightly dated and unusually straightforward like Rengoku's speech patterns, which says more about Rengoku's traditional values and straightforward outlook as opposed to his time period, I think. Likewise, in the flashbacks to Michikatsu's life, their speech is in modern Japanese, just with old family terms and a smack of distanced formality which would be common in samurai households. (Since I brought up Rengoku here, I want to be clear that Rengoku's ancestor was only ever called a "swordsman" and the Tsugikuni brothers were "samurai," there is a big difference). What's of more interest is that Michikatsu didn't speak with such dramatic pauses as Kokushibo.

Kokushibo is very direct with his wording--he uses a lot of plain statements, stating realities and rules without beating around any bushes. He's practical, and uses terms appropriately filled with respect for one who outranks him when speaking of or to Muzan. When addressing anyone of lower rank, demon or not, he doesn't use impolite language, just basic.

Another interesting point is that he has some pretty long statements with no use of ellipses. He's got his whole thought planned out before he says it, and a full breath for it too.

Hmm. Breath??? No, he never gave up his ability to use Breath Technique, I don't think it's for lack of lung power.

No, seriously! Besides Tamayo and Muzan, he is the oldest demon we know, if anyone has a right to being senile, it's him! I know, I know, demon bodies don't degrade like human bodies too. But you know what has been shown to suffer? Speaking ability!

Nezuko is an extreme case, having almost entirely neglected regaining the powers of speech in favor of physical developments like faster healing speeds and mastery of the sun. While many demons do fall on the verbose side, we've also seen some demons (especially less powerful demons) with very simplistic speech or slurred voices, like Daddy Spider (who was only powerful having powered Rui's powers). What if Kokushibo, by pouring so much effort into his Breath technique and sword and eyes, has to redirect that focus from his speech?

Our apologies if the sudden influx of personal posts is too intense, by the way. We know we're shattering under the weight of things that are relatively trivial, in the grand scheme of things, and it would likely be easier to direct this whole mess to being more private, but the thing that caused this in the first place was a set of online communications being on the verse of shutting down, and we… we think we just want to talk to someone right now. Doesn't necessarily have to be to anyone in particular, we just need to talk and have someone answer.

If you don't want to handle... everything, then that's perfectly understandable. Blacklisting the "negative chatter" tag will filter out most of this. Our notifications are still... not really acting correctly, but asks and messages are worth their weight in gold, for all that they have weight. We may be... distracted, or in pain, or all of the above, but we will appreciate it. Questions on fic and story ideas may be harder to answer than usual, but we will still try and answer, even if it's delayed. We're just feeling a bit... brittle.

We've been thinking of maybe starting a Discord server, but its more recent updates have grown more hostile to us, and we fear that it, too, will be reaching the end of its lifespan - and beyond that, we are not wholly certain that we can continue running a server sufficiently past this point of crisis and craving of companionship. We are running out of places to... exist, which is not a new state of being, but is a state we are increasingly struggling to grapple with. We have a tendency to lock up, in times of stress, but that is not an option now, which means we are... forcing ourself into action, a bit.

We have a project of nearly five years that will go down the drain as permanently uncompleteable if we do not finish it before 3DS communications shut down, where we thought we had time, and were evidently mistaken. We are going to have to cut corners on it, because even if we spent every single hour of every single day from now until the shutdown on a 3DS without pausing even to eat or sleep, we would be unable to meet the original estimate. We hate having to slice off pieces like this, and we hate having to settle for something worse, but we have no choice. We feel... well, "exhausted" is probably underselling it. We're tired, and sad, and angry, and a whole mess of other things, and we don't know how we're going to solve this without breaking entirely. We'll have to figure it out, or break. Jury's out on which it'll be.
