Here's another piece from the series I working on this week. I think this one is one of my favorites. I am just in a happy place right now coz I seem to really nail down my vision in my paintings. Sometimes I have something in mind but I am having a hard time translating it to actual output but this time everything is just right. I am hoping to keep this kind of energy longer because it's not everyday that I am feeling this.

Framing experiment - Iris . One of my ulterior motives in painting this tiny canvas was to try making a small floater frame! 😁 I loosely followed the steps in a very cool tutorial from @alyssamees’ YouTube channel, and adapted it to what materials I had at hand ☺️ It was a lot of fun, though pretty time consuming since I wanted to make sure to leave pleeeeenty of drying time for the wood glue. That, and I repainted the frame 4 times over 🤣 . I would have liked a natural wood colour, but I found the one I had slightly too pale, so I first painted it the same colour as the gold background, then decided it didn’t look contrasty enough and painted it over in pearlescent white, which was cool but a bit too shiny, then the posca purple, before deciding on a layer of black and another of iridescent purple/green. My favorite way to draw flowers: do an interesting line drawing (this one is with a Pitt oil-based pencil) and then do a painting on top of the drawing that doesn’t exactly line up. It’s not a coloring book, it’s a painting sitting on top of a drawing and they’re slightly different. It’s easy to get caught up in trying to make flowers perfect and totally accurate, but this method takes the pressure off for me. 😁🌷🎨 These tulips came from friends who volunteered to pick us up from the airport when we returned from Amsterdam, made sure we had the all-important half and half in the fridge for the next morning, and left tulips on the table.
