If Mobius had kids you'd think he'd be a lot more fascinated by parenting than by Jet-skis, but what do I know.

okay, here's the thing about the loki series that I came to the conclusion to a few days ago. If you want a series that explores the aftermath of the Avengers in any meaningful way (or Loki's past actions), then the series isn't for you. Unfortunately, given the timeline that they presented us with, most people who watched the show thought it would be about that (myself included). As s2e5 has shown us though, the Loki series isn't really about Loki. It's about Loki and his relationship with the characters from the TVA, mainly Mobius. If you have no interest in the two, then the show doesn't work and is extremely boring.
Unfortunately, unlike other TV series and movies, the series didn't really delve into Loki's psychology. Moon Knight had an entire episode dedicated to Marc/Steven, so did WandaVision. I think that when a series doesn't have that background dig on a character, that the audience is actually really, deeply unhappy with it. The same thing happened with the Falcon and Winter Solider that has with Loki. The audience doesn't care. Secret Invasion had the same problem. Like the plot is happening, but that's not the point. No one cares about the plot, its' just a nice back drop. We want the psychology dig. I just don't see us getting that in episode 6, though.
One of the things I was personally hoping would happen in episode 5 is that Loki would do more timeline jumping, but timeline jumping on his timeline, not gathering the TVA. I wasn't unhappy with it, but I was disappointed because I wanted to see what they could do with it. I wanted the psychology dig. But again, the Loki series isn't about Loki. It's about Loki and his relationship to the TVA.

It's funny how people accused Loki of being a fascist/genocidal maniac/evil autocrat back in 2012, even though there were clear indications of him being under the influence of the mind stone + Thanos' torture and indoctrination + going through a phase of severe mental breakdown (in Thor 1).
And now people are embracing the fact that (not)Loki* is becoming a loyal dog of the TVA--a fascist, genocidal organisation which kills whole universes in one go without so much as blinking, puts people in gas chambers to alter their minds, tortures people into submission (which Mobius actually did to (not)Loki), only because one person (Kang) decided that one timeline was sacred and the rest expendable.
I can't imagine the mental gymnastics being utilised here.
Tumblr media
* I'm using (not)Loki because whatever this character is, he's certainly not the Loki of 2011-2013.

I’m happy for Ke Huy; but i feel like Owen is robbed here; cause he slayed in S2 of Loki. But you know what bothers me the most?! The hate Owen mostly get for his roles; which i think is absolutely ridiculous; but whenever he actually does an amazing job he never gets the recognition either…cause someone else always did better..just give credit where credit is due🙏🏻

quick loki preview bc i have fallen down the rabbit hole since i have nothing else new to watch
the way loki used his magic was such a serve omg
i'm still in love with b-15 ♡
i appreciate the subtle humor, the jokes in other new mcu contents (minus the guardians of the galaxy) annoy me but here it's well balanced yet funny👍
when brad said "playing dress up" to loki idk what he fully meant but my mind wandered to teen loki switching fem presenting & borrowing [stealing] frigga's clothing to try them on for funsies n shit (i used to do that w my mom's wedding clothes as a child 2 lol)
when brad was messing w/ loki he had the opportunity to do the most suicidal thing ever and add sth like "who isn't even your real mother" after bringing up frigga (bro would have gotten ANNIHILATED Ijbol)
the slap was so funny & satisfying at the same time. i didn't saw it coming but i love this side of mobius
this ep's genuinely the most TERRIFYING loki has been in the mcu. in the chase scene and both of the interrogation. i absolutely support it idgaf !! he was more intimidating then he was in the first avengers movie which says a loooot
when loki mentioned the new york incident that was either lazy writing or babe got brain damage cuz i am pretty sure when he was mad at thor & odin that was in new mexico?? when he sent that metallic shit down or wtvt💀 to prevent thor from returning. but i forgive only because he mentioned tony lmfao
i love seeing sylvie finally being content. even if it was thru fuckass mcdonalds. i hope she won't be reduced to the "weird love interest" cuz her chara has potential and you can tell she's tired of this bs as well...
another episode of sylki being forced, toxic, keep disagreeing with & avoiding each other with rather tense chemistry instead of a romantic one they supposedly meant to have & being one sided as hell. their "romance" makes zero sense in this series' context & i could go off for longer regarding this topic but i'll save it for a seeperate post, later!
o.b & casey are so wholesome
bro i'm starting to ship lokius i think? (not in a fetishzing way i just like their dynamics and they just both happen to be dudes/male presenting) cuz i am sensing romantic & soulmate-ish undertones. sad that disney is a coward to make it canon...
overall i loved the 70s-90s vibes they seem to be going for. this show deffo has the best aesthetics we've seen in marvel phase 5 so far and i can't wait to see what's coming next.

Was completely unaware she was hurting people
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Knew full well he was hurting people
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All Carol needs is to see the people to know it's wrong. She needed to be lied to and have the truth about the refugees hidden from her because otherwise she would have never been apart of the Kree empire even if she believed she was a Kree. For Carol what's most important is for others to know not only that she never meant to harm but she is sorry for what harm she did cause. She's sorry, no one needs to prompt her to say it.
Mobius can't stop hiding behind the same excuses. He thought he was the good guy. Confronted with the clearly messed up things which good guys don't do he just says he thought ends justify the means but he never denied what he did was wrong. For Mobius what's most important is that Sylvie know he thought he was right and that she also did bad things. He has to be cornered into an apology.

Alrightie everyone moment of truth is almost here, an hour to goo and I just wanna make one more voting system for the aftermath cause I wanna stick put an hour and a half after it comes out depending if somethings happen or not. SOOOOO ONE MKRE TIME GUYS THIS IS FOR THOSE WHO HAVE WATCHED THE FINALE BY NOW
Good luck to all our fellow Lokius fans and all those who want Loki to just have friendships instead of romance relationships. It's been a honor clowning with you guys
Don't wish too hard guys and don't expect much from Disney especially with their awful representation of the LGBTQ+ community, I DON'T CARE IF LOKIUS WINS I JUST WANT S^*#%! TO LOSE

Why Lokius Should Have Been Canon
Tumblr media
This is a sort of combo of two metas that didn't quite get point my across. Some parts will be copied directly, but there's a lot of original content. I will discuss the ship between Loki and Mobius, their place in the show, and the MCU at large. My focus for this meta won't be parallels or motifs, because these things border on well-written friendships. But there will be some of that.
Romance in the MCU
There are a lot of straight couples in the MCU. (Almost) Every main hero is in some heterosexual relationship, Loki included.
Tumblr media
(That's not all, not remotely).
But in the LGBTQ+ department... uh.. I think it was mentioned that Valkyrie had a girlfriend... uh... America Chavez had a pride pin... and Loki:
Tumblr media
One line. Queer experiences are never a focal point of a show/movie the same way heterosexual experiences are. And that needs to change.
Romance In the Show
Wrong, toxic, or unsuccessfu romantic love is a recurring theme in the show.
Sylki
Sylki was an icky relationship right off the bat. They are the same person. I can't find the post at the moment, but someone has pointed out in their post that them being the same person is referenced in every episode in season 1 (edit: here it is), which is when the romance took place. This made their romance uncomfortable for many viewers.
(Some consider Sylki a toxic relationship, but for this post, the topic is too large to handle with the nuance I'd like to handle it with).
When he's drunk, Loki compares love to a dagger, stating that it hurts you, but when you try to find strength in it, it's not real.
youtube
Which is exactly what happens. Sylvie pushes Loki into a portal and they never get back together.
The Love Triangle
In 02×03, Ravonna Renslayer is infatuated with Victor Timely, but he leaves her behind and betrays her when Miss Minutes told him to. One episode later, we discover that they were indeed an item, and established the TVA together. He Who Remains deleted her memories and they never rekindle their love.
Later in the episode, is the best example of "wrong" romance in the show. Miss Minutes, the AI clock, confesses her love to Viktor Timely. He, obviously, freaks out and shuts her off. Nothing ever comes of this.
Brad and Dox
This one is small, but a big indication to romance being a theme. In 02×01, we're shown this:
Tumblr media
The gap in the age of the actors is uncomfortable, and a character in universe has this reaction to it. It is never mentioned again.
So what does all of this leave us with? Not much. None of this properly ties to the finale, or anything really. If I were to write the show I would cut a lot of this out, since it serves no purpose. But it does make you keep romance and its shortcomings in mind. The writers want it to be there, in the back of your head.
Loki and Mobius
Finally! I got to talk about them. The two people in question. First things first, who are they, together? They became really supportive, close friends.
Tumblr media
Fans even drew parallels to Chaos & Order, which is a very important theme in Loki. But I'm not here to unpack them. These things don't necessarily make them in love. So what does make them in love? I'll present you my evidence, and you ask yourself,
Would it be valid to suggest romantic implications if a man and a women are:
1) Extremely thouchy with each other.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
2) Riding on a tandem bike together.
Tumblr media
3) Willing to suffer a fate worst than death for another.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4) Falling on each other after that^
Tumblr media
5) Literally the Interrupted Declaration of Love trope. (Ex)
Tumblr media
6) Being framed in a circle.
Tumblr media
7) Waiting & giving permission to attack.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
8) Fixing themselvs before seeing the other.
Tumblr media
Of course yes. Maybe you think some of these are a strech, but ultimately, people would point out romantic connotations across the board. And I'm here, pointing them out right now. Some scenes between Loki and Mobius have romantic implications.
Conclusion
Loki is a queer protagonist in the MCU, a universe that lacks representation of queer experiences. His show constantlty reminded us of romance, sometimes for seemigly no reason. In the second season, they wrote him and his best friend with romantic implications. And then, nothing. It should not have been nothing. Lokius should have been canon.

I get everyone's disappointment in Sylvie but isn't it so reductive to label her an unforgivably bad character and ending the conversation there... she shouldn't have blown up at Mobius like that but if I finally found peace for the first time in my existence only to be threatened with its destruction and my only choice to save it is to collaborate with the very organization that ruined my life in the first place, I would also be pissed tf off and also very very anxious! Not to mention the one dragging her back into this mess is also the only person she has probably ever opened up to and felt understood by. We know Mobius and Loki and OB and Casey and Hunter but from Sylvie's perspective they have all tried to kill her before and there's no guarantee that they won't again. We know and love these characters but they are not allies to her, she is literally stepping into a lion's den. She has to rely on these people she doesn't trust based on blind faith because she doesn't have much of a choice besides dying with the universe she has come to call home.
None of these characters' futures are guaranteed and I'm sure they're all just as anxious. Her and Mobius's confrontation just felt like a case of two people trying to cope with pressure in their own way and accidentally butting heads over it. Maybe Mobius's way of coping is making light of the situation and finding moments of refuge where he can (pie break, anyone?). It shouldn't be his problem if Sylvie reads this as a lack of concern but it feels unfair to validate Mobius's coping mechanisms and shrug off Sylvie's anxieties like she's having an outburst over nothing. But that's just me

Abuse in the Loki Show
* Physical and sexual abuse: The main male character was stripped without his consent after being violently subdued, kidnapped and imprisoned. He got bent over a table by a physically stronger female character (B-15) making it look like he was about to be sexually assaulted. He was repeatedly kicked whilst already down, thrown around into things, knocked around and strangled by a much larger and stronger male. There was also a scene where a female character stood over his unconscious body looking like she was going to take advantage of him (Sylvie) who also bit, kneed and elbowed him causing him to clutch himself in pain. He was repeatedly hit, punched and kicked in the balls by another female character (Sif) and lastly he was kissed without giving consent (Sylvie). Another male character (Mobius) was pushed violently onto the ground by his female ‘superior’ (Ravonna.) There was also blatant violence against women such as B-15 punching Sylvie into the ground making her clutch herself and gasp in extreme pain. In the second season, Sylvie blasts the main male character into the ground quite brutally in the third episode. She also brutally hits another female character (Ravonna) in the stomach and kicks her through a time door in the same episode. Sylvie physically assaults the main male character in the final episode of season 2, two of the main male characters exploit a female character Sylvie in the final episode of season 2.
* Bullying, mental and psychological abuse: The main male character (Loki) is shown traumatising footage of events that happened in his life while his captor (Mobius) tells him how bad he is and brings up MORE abusive events and tells him how unimportant he is.
* He was put into a ‘torture time loop’ by his captor (Mobius) where he repeatedly got physically and verbally abused (kicking in the balls, hitting, punching and bullying about ‘deserving to be alone’) by not ‘staying in line’ by the organisation. A female character (Sylvie) leads on the main male character and manipulates him, sexually abuses him, blames and bullies him for all the issues that SHE created and stops him from trying to do the right thing!
* Nazi Symbolism:
- Stripped prisoners without consent.
- Force them to work for you or kill and torture them. Some of the torture methods include being ‘subdued’ and ‘gassed’ inside of a cube.
- Subdue, abuse, restrain, strip and beat them into submission in order to brainwash them, erase their memories and give them ‘Stockholm syndrome’ and ‘befriend’ their abusers (Mobius, B-15)

my thoughts on lokius
[loki season 1 spoilers!]
season 2 is coming out in a few days (!!) and so i decided i’d write out my thoughts on lokius before it’s released. as a disclaimer, this is critical of the series, but not completely series-negative.
if lokius becomes canon in s2, i genuinely want to be happy about it. it would be amazing steps in queer rep for marvel to have a canonical lgbtq couple as the focus of the show (and i say this as a queer person myself).
but the way mobius and loki’s relationship was written seems to be only thought-out on the surface level (which is the case for a lot of the things in the show), and a lot of aspects of their relationship aren’t so great when you look deeper into it. i understand why people don’t notice and/or don’t want to acknowledge it — i was extremely enthusiastic about the ship, and i didn’t notice the problems either. to those looking at lokius with the most positive light, they have an amazing dynamic and are adorable and wholesome and all great things. so i get the hype, i really do (tbh, i shipped it so hard that several months ago when the problems were pointed out to me it ruined my week).
but even with how much i loved it, i didn’t want to just ignore any potential problems. so i distanced myself from the ship for a few weeks until i was in a better headspace to gather my thoughts.
first i’ll start with what was intended:
mobius is obviously intended to be a very kind and understanding character. whether or not the writers wanted it to come across as platonic or romantic, they wanted him to care deeply about loki. like loki said though: “no one good is ever truly good, and no one bad is ever truly bad.” the writers did give mobius at least one major flaw and a character arc, in that he believed in the goodness of the tva too much, but by the end of s1, he was all for taking it down .
you can see his flaw in the way he treats loki early on. sylvie’s been killing minutemen and stealing reset charges from the tva for a long time, and he wants loki’s help in finding her, so mobius does what the tva expects: he uses what he knows about loki to get them (somewhat) on the tva’s side. unfortunately, that happens to be psychologically breaking loki. compared to outright pruning from existence, which most of the tva seems to prefer, it’s no wonder he thinks this is the better option. (the fact that the show portrays this as a “therapy session” is a whole problem in itself, but i won’t get into that.)
things like this that mobius does early in the series can be explained by his faith in the tva’s mission. he didn’t agree with most of their methods, and he didn’t realize that even his actions (viewed by the tva as too merciful) were still significantly harmful, but he believed the tva ultimately worked for the good and safety of the entire universe. it’s not an excuse, but it could be forgiven in his later character arc when he realizes that he was wrong, regrets his actions, apologizes, and learns.
but then there’s the part when he puts loki in the memory cell.
i really, really hate that marvel did that. they easily could have had a very similar memory cell situation without having mobius be the one to put loki in there. (mobius could have left the room in anger, and then the guards or ravonna throw loki in there without mobius’ knowledge, for one example.) but instead, whoever wrote that plot point apparently didn’t understand how bad that was, and so it is, unfortunately, canon.
you might be inclined to say that it wasn’t that bad. because actions in fantastical situations can make things harder to distinguish, i’ll put a real-world comparison: one partner puts the second partner somewhere they KNOW that the second will get repeatedly both physically and verbally attacked. they do this simply because they think that they’ve been cheated on. even if they had been cheated on, that in no way excuses beating up the second partner, directly or indirectly.
hopefully you can recognize that as obvious abuse. even if the abuser later deeply regrets it and rescues their partner, the fact that they did it in the first place NEEDS to be addressed. i don’t know what exactly could repair a relationship after that, but brushing it under the rug and ignoring it won’t help. (and this is still abuse with a platonic reading of the relationship.)
if marvel hadn’t done that (and had handled mobius’ arc better in general) then there would be far less problems with the lokius ship. but since they did, us as fans have to figure out where to go from here, whether that’s writing or reading fix-it-fics or simply acknowledging that the problems exist.
hopefully the people running s2 are more competent and have figured something out to fix this. i really hope that’s the case. but it is marvel.
(sidenote: from things that tom hiddleston and owen wilson have said in interviews i’ve seen, i don’t think they noticed the problems either. maybe they have background context of things that aren’t in the official show but they accepted them as canon. or they just didn’t notice, like is the case with many fans.)

ok ik most ppl (mainly series likers but series haters too) mainly bash sylvie because she’s an easy target (female character who also gets in the way of a popular ship) but i think we need to bash mobius more too. i really do not like that guy. i don’t understand how people can still like him/him and loki together after he mocked loki for being responsible for frigga’s death (i know we have varying opinions on frigga, but obviously we all know that her death affected loki very badly in tdw, and in the series we can see that the variant… Did not like that.) which he literally just found out about and technically was not responsible for yet, and also had loki thrown into a time loop where he got physically assaulted a whole bunch of times… it’s okay though guys because mobius said that loki could be whoever he wants to be (after punishing him for doing something he deems as wrong)…
i’m so serious… if mobius was a female character, most people would hate him the way they hate sylvie. they would notice everything wrong with his character, and even how inconsistent the writing is. but they only do that with sylvie, for some reason… and i don’t even like sylvie. i think she’s horribly written as well, and her character makes no sense. she’s 3 different characters put into one just to make her distinctive from loki, but she doesn’t really add anything different/interesting to the show at all. and i also obviously don’t even like or care about the variant, but it’s just so weird that the people who claim to love him ship him with two people who could not care less about him, and think that everyone else in the tva cares about him. none of these people cared about him!! variant fans hate him more than we do, because they never liked or understood loki in the first place. just fanon and what they could make him into
