RWI - TIME OUT
Tumblr media
Joel and Anna had invited their married friends over for dinner and the two couples had gotten a bit tipsy after dinner and decided to play a game.
They had all been friends for decades, never leaving their small town and they still liked to keep in touch regularly.
Sam and his wife Lauren had brought a game they'd found in a charity shop. Role With It 'Out of Time' - Special Edition. They seemed keen to give it a go despite never having played it.
Clearing the detritus of the meal away, Anna looked uneasily at her loving husband Joel as he scrutinised the rules intently. Too intently.
Everyone was acting weird... it was like they were all desperate to play the game. There was a feverish look in Lauren's eyes and Sam looked positively excited.
"Guys, can we maybe try this another time?" said Anna feeling an odd repulsion to the box clearly at odds with everyone else.
"Come on babe, it will be fun," grinned Joel as he put down the rule book. "Listen to the rules. Pick a player to start with and have them pick a 'time card'. The other players have to impersonate people from that players life as they were then to score points."
He held out a set of cards. "These all have different dates on. Come on - pick one."
Anna hesistated but, won over by peer pressure, she grabbed a card and flicked it over. 1996.
"Wow... we were all in Highschool back then," grinned Sam. "Hey... wh... what's happening?"
The room began to throb and pulse, the four friends looked around uneasily as the air grew thick as treacle. With a hiss their mobile phones suddenly dissolved and the windows of the dining room melted away. Smart watches and fitbits melted into wisps of air. In moments the four of them were in a blank looking room with only one door.
Then they began to get younger. Age and maturity faded away as each of them became younger and younger. In moments they had all regressed to look exactly how they had in 1996.
"I'm scared," whimpered Anna, but the others seemed strangely unaffected. Joel walked over to the dining room door and opened it. The door should have led to their hallway - but instead there was now another room on the other side.
Joel and Anna entered and the dining room door closed behind them. When Anna glanced back she saw to her horror it had... vanished.
Sam and Lauren were gone... or at least they were now elsewhere. Only she and Joel had made it to wherever this place was.
The room they were now in was pink and white. It was a girls bedroom. A sexy rich girls bedroom. 90's boy band posters covered the wall and Anna saw a calendar hung with cheerleader practice dates carefully marked in sexy little handwriting with hearts over the i's.
A huge double bed covered in sexy satin sheets was in the centre of the room and laid out carefully on the bed waiting to be worn were a pair of sexy white stockings and a pink lingerie set.
Anna felt her heart pounding and she whimpered in fear. She recognised this room, even though she'd never been in it. The cheerleading trophies on the shelf against the wall and the polaroids and photos hanging there made it clear whose room this was.
This was Madison Green's room.
She had been Anna's bully through High School. They had someone travelled back in time to her room. They had to get out of here.
Memories of Madison flushing her head down the toilet, or laughing as her cruel minions pushed her over in the dining room filled her head. Madison was the one person she feared most in the world.
The spoiled perfect princess of the towns richest family, she had gotten everything she wanted and had been a total monster. Anna turned to Joel. "We have to find a way back to 2024 - wh... what are you doing?"
Anna stared at Joel in shock. Her husband was standing by Madison's vanity mirror applying a thick layer of the bitchy girls lipgloss to his lips. His breathing was heavy and he appeared excited.
"I... I just had this urge to put this on. Mmmmh it tastes like cherry and it makes me feel good."
"No... Joel. Wipe that off... something is really wrong here. This game is evil."
Joel smirked. His lips looked different somehow, more poutier and feminine. The teeth behind them were now sexy and white and perfect - the teeth of a rich girl with access to cosmetic dentistry.
"Relax... we just have to play the game and everything will resolve itself. I know exactly what I need to do."
Lifting a mascara brush, Joel sighed happily as he applied it to his lashes. When he turned back round they were now long and feminine and a pair of ice blue eyes, cruel and sexy gazed back at her.
"Yesssss that feels fucking good. I want MORE!"
Joel slid his clothes off and naked began to walk to the bed. His movements appeared less masculine. He walked with an athletes grace... a cheerleaders precision of fluid movement.
"Wh... what are you doing?" screamed Anna as her husband picked up the sexy pink panties and began to climb inside them.
"Embracing my new destiny," he purred. "Becoming Madison Green."
"Nooooo!" screamed Anna, but it was too late as the panties tugged into place and Joel moaned in pleasure as a bubble butt erupted to fill the panties and his cock shrank away.
"Yes you fucking loser. Your pathetic husband is becoming me and there's nothing you can do to stop it," groaned Joel his voice wavering between a hot bitchy whine and his usual low tones.
Pulling the pink lingerie over his head, Joel struggled to make it fit for a moment till with a crunch his body halved in on itself and he shrunk in size and weight. He now had the proportions of a highschool girl and his chest swelled up to fill the cups of his new lingerie and give him a pert pair of perfect rich girl tits.
Joel grabbed the stockings and began pulling them onto his legs. Sexy light pink nails shot out of each finger as he tugged the white material into place and his legs became sexy and long in proportion to his new short body. The legs of a Cheerleader.
Standing up, Joel turned away from Anna and groaning stretched his body. His waist crunched in a bit tighter as his hair began to move and Anna watched in sick fascination as blonde curls tumbled out - cute pink bows popping artfully into place to keep the whole asemblage in place.
"Fuckkkkk yesssss," hissed a bitchy voice and as Joel turned around Anna saw his face was now that of her bully. His Adam's apple was gone and as the last few changea creased away - Anna saw that Joel had 100% become Madison Green.
"Mmmmh I feel like such a fucking bitch," giggled the new Madison. "You loser... this is so hawt. We're back in 1996 and I AM Madison. I get to live her sexy life forever. Joel is gone bitch."
Anna screamed in sorrow and running to the door threw it open. Running through she found herself back on the street where she grew up. Trapped in 1996. There was no escape.
In her bedroom Madison grinned as she answered her phone to her besties and Anna's other bullies, Chloe and Ashley.
Sam and Lauren had also been transformed. The three of them were now the baddest bitches at school.
"Remember girls, to win the game and stay this way forever... we just have to bully that loser. This is gonna be so much fun."
Madison liked to win... and she had no intention of ever turning back into that loser. It felt so good to be out of time.

An average day in my life
I want to make a post about an average day in my life, with higher support needs nonverbal autism (with continued late regression), severe ME/CFS, low mobility, hypotonia, and other health things. I need a lot of help with most things, and due to my conditions my everyday life probably looks quite different than many people's.
I tried to write this several times. I started with AAC, but I couldn’t see what I just wrote, so I got lost and jumped about too much. This time I made myself some questions to answer, so I can still use AAC to help with the words, but not get so mixed up. Some of this is written with AAC, some is typed.
Where do I spend most of my time? How do I spend most of my time?
I spend the large majority of my time in my bedroom, and the most of that time is spent in bed.
In bed, the things I do is: watch DVDs or other things on laptop, edit AAC, practice/write with AAC, play games on phone, listen to music.
When I am not in bed, I am listening to loud music in my swing! Best way of regulation for me, keeps me calm.
What does my bedroom look like, how do I have things set up?
I sit up in bed with a big wedge pillow and two normal pillows behind me. I usually have my laptop, iPad, AAC device, DVDs and DVD player, and fidget toys (dummy, chewy, tangle) on the bed with me. I also have an overbed table which always has my glasses and case and juice bottle on it. I change around what is on the table depending on what I am doing at that time.
My LED lights in bedroom is usually on orange or yellow colour, with lights fairly dim. The curtains and blackout blind is always closed.
I have a fan and book light always next to my bed. I have a weighted blanket as my duvet, with five other varying types of blankets on top of it.
What are the other activities I do?
I have some other activities I occasionally do with help and prompts. Sometimes I go downstairs (with stairlift) to watch TV and/or do walking (physiotherapy, walking back and forth with or without AFO braces). I also do walking upstairs, because getting downstairs is a real challenge.
I rarely remember that I have options other than the things I see in front of me, so my parents have to give me choices.
Occasionally Mum ask me if I want to play cards, or do something else not normally do. It depends on how I feel and how loud my brain is, but sometimes I say yes.
What are the few things I can do independently on a daily basis?
I can put shoes and socks on, and take off, by myself! Only with same pair of stretchy shoes, just pull on. I do this several times a day because I wear shoes in swing, but not in bed. So it is a strong motor path.
I can change my hoodie/take it on and off by myself.
I can go between my bed and swing by myself, no prompt. I can walk to go to the toilet and change nappy (diaper) by myself.
I can brush my teeth as long as my toothbrush and toothpaste is brought to me. Sometimes I also need a reminder, or I forget. I am more likely to forget in the evening. I remember better in the morning because I don’t like the taste of my own mouth.
I can drink from my juice bottle and feed myself.
I can put DVDs in and out of DVD player and plug it into laptop. I can choose what I want to watch on a few streaming services. I can navigate a few social media apps, and can even post/message on a couple.
I can use the two different remotes to control my LED lights and sensory light projector.
What is my main struggles and difficulties in an average day?
I can't do much without prompts so these two things (bed and swing) is basically all I can do on my own (I can also go to the toilet without a prompt most of the time, but sometimes I get stuck). I struggle to initiate tasks and transition between tasks. I also can only make my body go on strong motor paths (movement sequences that I do over and over that is strong in my muscle memory), and there is only space in my brain capacity for a small amount of these motor paths at a time. Learning a new motor path and making it strong can make me lose a previous motor path (usually whichever is weakest at that time). This is very limiting.
Even with the pillows I have, it is not enough support. My body is too weak and floppy. My posture is bad and I slide/slump down so I am closer to a lying down position than sitting. I am always in a lot of pain, so I shift around a lot trying to get comfy, but it is never quite right. This is even more for when I sit in swing (or anywhere else), there is next-to-none support there.
If I could, I would be in my swing all the time! But unfortunately I have very low energy due to ME/CFS so a lot of rest is necessary. I find this hard because I need to stim and regulate constantly.
It is necessary that I spend much time alone in my room. If I didn’t, the smallest things would send me into immediate shutdown or meltdown. I can’t be around people much at all, even voices noises is too much. Usually I am only around people for the time when they help me with something, or bring me something.
When I do be around people, even with AAC it is very very difficult for me to communicate - I can do a handful of simple signs but anything more complex is so hard to get out that it usually has to happen when I am on my own in my room (like when I write a post like this). I am sad that I can’t have important or deep conversations with a person in the same room. Most of the important things I communicate to Mum is through Tumblr or WhatsApp.
I am oversensitive to so many things because of sensory issues. I am always dysregulated and I spend so much time trying to keep myself calm with swinging, with out making my health worse.
Often I am much too tired and sore to go downstairs so I am stuck in my bedroom most of the time.
I don't feel many body signals, like my bladder. When I don’t feel the signals at all (or not until too late), combined with getting stuck and not able to initiate go to toilet fast enough, I have accidents. This used to be something I could just about keep on top of, but with regression I no longer can manage it, so I have to wear nappies (diapers). This also adds another task (change nappy) that I have to use my limited brain capacity to learn and hold onto.
I am so fatigued and in pain from doing small things, and my body response to fatigue is often a big trigger for many sensory issues. This often becomes a downward spiral of fatigue response -> sensory bad -> big stim to calm down -> stim makes fatigue worse -> more body fatigue response, etc.
What is my morning routine like?
The first thing that happens in the morning (approximately 9am) is Mum or Dad comes to my bedroom with breakfast and medication. They help prop me up in bed with a big wedge pillow, and two normal pillow behind me. They give me my headphones (I wear almost all day, every day) and help put all my things around me on the bed. They also give me my toothbrush and toothpaste. In the mornings I can’t communicate much at all (only occasionally a few signs), can’t look at another person or do anything that would overwhelm me even a wee bit. It would cause immediate shutdown or meltdown. Shutdown is more likely for the morning time.
What is my mealtime routine like?
Mum or Dad (or very occasionally sister) brings me my food, and if it is a messy food then I put a tea towel over my chest so I don’t get covered in food. I eat while watching something usually, because I need the distraction to not get so stuck. Every time I get new meal or snack brought upstairs to me, I get a fresh bottle of juice also. The bottle is approximately 450ml, and I have 3 meals plus 2 snacks each day. I also get a bottle of water (not juice) brought up with evening meds, so I don’t get sugar on my teeth after I brush them.
I eat the same snacks at the same times every day. I have the same exact breakfast every day, and it has barely changed since I was quite young. I have two lunches, it is the same except for sandwich filling - I eat one for weekdays, one for weekends. Dinner varies, but there is still a predictable amount of choices, and often I eat the same dinner for the same day of the week. Mum sometimes tells me what is for dinner, if it will be different than the usual dinner for that day of the week, or if I ask. But I usually forget by dinner time anyway! 🤷🏻‍♂️
What is my bath time routine like?
With bath, Mum always helps. I need a lot of prompts. I get confused and lost with all the steps. But I have gotten better with practice, and each step have a stronger motor path now. I need Mum to tell me what part comes next.
I use a bath lift to get in and out of the bath.
I can do the physical washing part mostly on my own, sometimes I ask for help with my back. Mum gives verbal prompts and puts the right soap/shampoo in my hand or on washcloth.
Sometimes even with prompts, my brain confuses the steps or the motor paths, and my body does the wrong thing. This happens more recently, because when there is a complex sequence of separate (at least it is stored separately in my brain) motor paths, I can go into “loops” of do same thing over and over. Or my wires get crossed and I simply do the wrong movements.
I can also mostly dry myself (I sit on toilet seat to do it), but Mum always does my back. I can’t dress myself, so once I put on nappy by myself, Mum puts my top on. Then I walk to bedroom and Mum puts my trousers on while I sit on the edge of my bed (it is a better height that sitting on the toilet seat). Then Mum opens deodorant and clicks it up, I put it on myself.
What is my evening/bedtime routine like?
I have poor sleep, usually, and a really weird sleep schedule! My parents go to bed at approximately 10pm (sometimes Mum a bit earlier), and Dad always comes in to tell me goodnight. But I am awake much much after that (usually between 1-3am is when I finally go to bed for sleep). Sometimes I still swing when my parents is in bed, but I try not to swing too late because it can click and make noises.
I stay up and watch things, or play games on phone and listen to music. I often get stuck and cannot transition to go to bed, so I force myself awake for long after I could probably already go to bed.
When I finally manage to force myself to do the bedtime routine (or when my body is so tired it force me), I have to move all the things off the bed (some go on overbed table, some go to charge on the other side of the room). I also then change hoodie from day hoodie to sleep hoodie. I also move big wedge cushion and extra pillow down onto the floor. And put special cushion under my sleep pillow so it is at the perfect angle. Then, finally, I can lie down.
Sometimes I still go on my phone after that, usually to read fanfiction, if I can’t relax enough yet. I also rock back and forth on my side to soothe myself, I have done it since I was very young. I have to put my fan on to sleep, the noise and the feeling on my face is necessary to fall asleep, and it helps keep my temperature okay.
Then, the cycle of morning starts all over again!

Hell yeah! Had an awesome find at a thrift shop today - A 1929 Southwestern Bell Telephone technical manual and installation guide for phones of the era.
Tumblr media
Maybe you're asking why I think this is awesome? Haha. That makes sense - Well, first of all, I -live- vintage stuff. Antiques, old books, weird ephemera of the past. This definitely fits in with all of that, and has a gorgeous, punched leather cover with the gold stamping. Such a slick piece of history.
Tumblr media
Second, I'm an old computer nerd cat. Back in the early '90s, I was a phone phreak - a phone hacker back before mobile phones and even alphanumeric pagers were a thing. It was in these days that "Ma Bell" (Southwestern Bell) was a big Queen on the scene, in her prime.
Tumblr media
What were common phreaker practices back in the day? Well, it was all about exploration and curiosity. We would wardial (using our home landline connections and modems to dial a huge list of numbers in a row to try and find systems on the other end rather than regular phones - I'd leave it on all day and come back with a shorter list of various systems to dial in and play around on), we would build blue (and other color) boxes from RadioShack parts to use payphones to make free calls and do all sorts of rad tricks, we would prank folks that deserved it or use said tricks to disrupt schools and business, we would navigate voicemail systems and change automatic messages, and we would generate credit card numbers (which was incredibly easy back in the day) to make free calls to our first girlfriends in Canada. Well, that last one was mostly a me thing, haha.
Tumblr media
Basically, payphones and early phone systems were a wonderful, incredible playground for me and I have SO many fond memories of these times. To have a book like this in my hands feels like I just looked inside the Ark of the Covenant and instead of melting my face off, it just glowed real bright and whistled a 2600hz tone sweetly into my ears.
Tumblr media
This has so many cool photos like the ones above, and lots of radical technical diagrams, too.
As a bonus, there are hand-typed notes from a division head telephone engineer that wrote about systems they were building in Galveston, TX in the '60s:
Tumblr media
Anyways, this is such a cool relic and I'll probably not be able to bring myself to sell it.
Did you know I wrote a verse about being a phreaker for a song with Nerdcore legend YTCracker wayyyyyy back in 2010? Well, now you do. You can hear that here (I'm the second dude, of course):

Mobile Otome Recommendations
Hi, everyone! I've gotten into otome in the recent years. I got my start with mobile games, so I thought it'd be fun to talk about some of my favorites as my first recommendations post on this blog. If you have questions or other recommendations, let me know.
Tumblr media
MYSTIC MESSENGER
youtube
Mystic Messenger has a chatroom setting with many beloved characters of the RFA (Rika's Fundraising Association). MC finds a phone with the RFA app installed, ultimately leading to MC's position as party coordinator. There's more than meets the eye with the organization and the founder's history, however.
Unsurprisingly, this is the game that sparked my interest in otome. I felt the chatroom playstyle was very unique and a relatable way of getting to know the characters. It's fun to get calls from them occasionally too. The characterization and plot are so enjoyable, it's almost heartbreaking each route ends after 11 days. I could easily spend months on each of these character's routes.
As much as I love that it works in real time, it can be difficult to play with a busy schedule. It's also heavy with the triggering/dark content the more you play, so make sure that's something you're comfortable with before picking it up.
Features: Chatroom, routes, calls, real time, dark content.
Tumblr media
WANNABE CHALLENGE
youtube
MC is a model who has always faced misfortune in her life. She never expects anything good to happen. Some of her memories are also missing, including her history with the goblins, but they're there to protect her. Will her luck turn around as she suddenly finds herself living with four men and competing in the Wannabe Challenge?
I started playing this one more recently and I am in love with it. My only regret is not starting sooner. The blend of historical, modern, and fantasy is well done. The characters are so lovable, I'm not sure I can pick a favorite. The MC is pretty sassy too, which I'm fond of. The Wannabe Challenge itself is based on Instagram, so it's cool to see what characters post while having the opportunity to respond and make your own posts. There's also a dress up and gacha aspect to the game, if you're a fan of that.
The only downside I think is the difficulty of the photoshoot challenges, requiring you to have specific stats. You'll want to upgrade your cameras and cards wisely. On the bright side, the game is generous with free gems and occasionally allowing you to use a random SSR to help succeed.
Features: Instagram, text messaging, gacha, optional ads for free resources, dress up, challenges, affection levels, unlockable stories.
Tumblr media
ARCANA TWILIGHT
youtube
The Summoner enters an unfamiliar world, filled with sorcery. Their presence seems to bring more chaos and mystery than ever expected. Why do they have a special ability? What is it they see in their mind's eye? What about them attracts danger?
I feel like Arcana Twilight is a very underrated game. I've thoroughly enjoyed the story and getting to know the cast of characters. Their dynamics never fail to entertain. I also appreciate that the cast is 19+ despite this being a magic school setting. Constellations, magic, and monsters are all my taste.
The challenges can be difficult in this game as well. You have to battle between chapters which gets increasingly challenging as you go. Pay attention to elements and leveling your cards.
Features: Gacha, challenges, affection levels, ads for resources, text messaging, unlockable stories.
Tumblr media
LOVEBRUSH CHRONICLES
youtube
The MC is an artist during her first year at a university. She has special skills, resulting in her finding herself in different worlds. There are some familiar faces there too...
I was very excited to hear about an English release for this game. I thought the art was gorgeous when I first stumbled across it, and I still feel that way. They have an amazing voice cast too. I like the idea of being able to explore different worlds/universes and seeing the roles each of the love interests play. I'm looking forward to diving deeper and seeing what other worlds get released.
Much like the others listed above, there is a combat feature in the game requiring you to focus on your cards/leveling. Thankfully, you can bring support from other players into battle which may be the difference between success and failure.
Features: Routes, social media posts, affection points, gacha, combat, alternate universes, friend support.
Tumblr media
THE SSUM
youtube
MC uses a dating app to find their "special someone." Based on initial answers, MC is paired with one of the love interests on the app. A relationship is built up over a long period of time. But is there more to the app than meets the eye?
I feel like it comes full circle to have a Cheritz game on my phone again. I'm a sucker for their games (Dandelion and Nameless included), so I had to check this one out too. I've only done June's route at the moment, but I adored every moment of it. I like that I can set it up based on my real life schedule and there aren't consequences for missing chats. I also like the ties to Mystic Messenger. If you're missing the charm of Mystic Messenger, you may want to check this one out to satisfy the nostalgia.
There are some other features on the app, but I'm mostly focused on the story. It is still fun to check out planets and posts by other players though. This game will require a lot of patience as the other routes span 200+ days. Parts of spoken conversations and some photos will also be hidden unless you pay a monthly fee, but it will not prevent you from enjoying the story if you choose to play for free.
Features: Chatroom, dating app profiles, planet exploration, community posts, optional monthly fees, real time, calls, routes (that can all be played at the same time).

The Curse of Sight, Part 3
[Part 1] [Part 2] [Part 4]
Summary: When Wes Weston meets Tim Drake-Wayne, the dots start connecting. And those dots form a Bat.
Ao3 Link (available only to Ao3 members)
When Wes gets home that night, he cuts off the part of Tim’s note with his name. His contact information has already been added to his phone, so he tears that part of the note up and then trashes it. The part containing his signature, Wes dumps into an envelope and scribbles out a note on a different sheet of paper:
You owe me one.
                —Wes
Wes seals the envelope, stamps it, and writes Tucker’s address in the center, and uses one of his mom’s fancy returning address stickers so he doesn’t have to write anymore. Then he rushes out the townhouse and drops it off at the USPS outgoing mailbox, and rushes back inside before the powers that be decide Wes should be mugged again.
Tucker may be one of the Gaslighting Trio, but he was still nice enough to help Wes in their computers class.
xxXxx
Wes: Hi, it’s Wes! You gave me your number yesterday so I could give you coffee next time I went on a coffee run?
The reply comes unexpectedly fast for someone who runs a Fortune 500 company and is a whole entire vigilante, but maybe the coffee addiction is just that strong.
Tim: Wes! Yes, please. Have you left yet?
Wes: No, I haven’t even made the mobile order yet. Wanted to give you time to respond. Why?
Tim: Just a sec
Wes stares at his phone from his place in his mom’s office, where he sits in a brown suede chair that sits in front of her desk. His mom is typing away on her computer, a look of concentration on her face.
“Huh,” he says to himself, then exits the chat to return to putting in orders. He’d like to just click on a past order and reuse it, but Felix and Kourtnie are always changing their orders. He’s convinced it’s because they hate him, but maybe it’s that he’s letting his experience with Jade color his vision.
“What is it, sweetie?” his mom asks without pausing in his work.
“Well, Tim asked me to text him next time I went to get coffee. And like, I did. And he answered, but then told me to wait a sec.”
“Can’t ignore orders from the big boss,” his mom says, and Wes nods.
“Yeah, but I think Kourtnie will die if she waits too long for her caffeine fix.”
“She’ll have to get over it, or stop by Batbucks before she comes in.”
“I don’t think she wakes up early enough for that….”
His mom snorts, “You’re right on that front. How did you even meet Mr. Drake?”
He shrugs and looks back to his phone, “I dunno. He pressed the elevator button for me a few days ago, and now suddenly all of this—” he gestures to everything, “—is a thing.”
“Teenagers,” his mom mutters under her breath.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Nothing. Just that you suck at describing things.”
“You’re mean. I’m disowning you as my mother.”
“Have fun on the streets of Gotham.”
“I’ll sell your credit card numbers online to buy a bus ticket back to Amity.”
“Greyhounds don’t go to Amity. Try again.”
“I’ll hitchhike and get serial killed by a semi-truck driver to get back to Amity. Then I’ll come back as a ghost and haunt you and Gotham.”
“Not Amity Park?”
“No, they have other problems.” Like the Guys In White. Gotham has issues, but at least they aren’t government-mandated war crimes type of issues.
His mom goes to say something, but a knock at her office door stops her. She finally looks up from her computer and makes eye contact with the interrupter, and says, “Oh, come in, Mr. Drake.”
Wes has to physically stop himself from whipping around, “Oh, hey, Tim! What’s up?”
This is it. He’s finally figured out what I figured out and now he’s come for my kneecaps.
Okay, that was dramatic, even for him. He was making the Bats sound like a little family of mob members. Really, they were just superheroes. They couldn’t do anything harmful to Wes. At least not physically.
….Would they erase his memories? Is mind-fucking considered physical harm?
Wes breaks into a nervous sweat.
“I just want to help Wes out with his coffee run,” Tim explains with that charming Wayne smile that wins the hearts of anyone who feels. “I hope you don’t mind me going out with your son, Penny?”
“Not at all,” his mom answers. “Have fun, boys. Oh, and Mr. Drake?”
“Yes?”
“Tell your brother to stop flipping off the cameras every time he spots paparazzi.”
Tim winces, “I’ll send the message, but we can’t really run a business and control Jason at the same time.”
Jason Todd. As in Red Hood, the second Robin. The one who was pronounced dead overseas, but was miraculously found safe and somewhat sound several years later. Fantastic.
Wonder how much of that death was real? Wes has had enough ecto-exposure thanks to his stalking hijinks in Amity Park to know when he’s around others who have been touched by Death. He’s about 60% sure he could clock that in Jason Todd if he ever happened to get near him.
Hopefully while in his civilian persona. Wes is uninterested in meeting any more vigilantes, thank you very much.
They say their goodbyes to his mom and he gets up to follow after Tim, his knees a little wobbly. How long can he pretend to be nervous about hanging out with the guy who signs not just his paycheck, but his mom’s?
They walk through the PR Department and make it to the elevator, painstakingly going through the motions of small talk. Wes is aware of every word he utters, carefully asking himself what could be taken the wrong way, and what is innocuous enough to say.
“So what did you want from Batbucks?” he asks as the elevator lowers.
“Oh, the same as what you got last time,” Tim answers, and Wes abides by that request with a single press of a button. Their conversation moves to favorite TV shows as they leave WE and head to the crosswalk to make it to the Batbucks across the street, and once there, Wes pushes the check-in button to signal to the baristas that he’s there for pickup whenever the order is finished, and they take a seat against a wall and far from the windows.
“A Trekkie, huh?” Tim asks when Wes tells him his top five TV shows. “And a crime fan, too.”
Wes shrugs, fiddling with his fingers, “I like to figure out the ending before the characters do, and honestly, I just like George Takei.”
Tim tilts his head, “That’s fair. I like crime shows, too.”
Haha yeah, I bet you do.
“What’s your favorite?” Wes obligingly asks.
“Oh, Criminal Minds, easily. Spencer’s a great character.”
Wes wonders how a person with two full-time jobs like Tim has time for hobbies that include 40-minute episodes.
“You just like seeing characters in pain, don’t you?”
“I do not!” Tim protests, affronted. “I just think he’s a good character! With good development!”
“That’s what I’d say, too,” Wes teases.
Tim shakes his head, “You’re impossible. He’s just a good character! He’s so smart and awkward. What’s not to love?”
Wes gives a half-shrug, “I mean, I guess that’s fair. He is a good character. But I’m more of a Garcia person.”
“They really make the show,” Tim agrees. “Their dynamic is iconic.”
“Speaking of iconic….” Wes takes a deep breath disguised as a sigh. Okay, so if he were going to be interrogated, it would have happened by now. So it’s probably not happening unless he’s going to see a Bat on the fire escape tonight. But if he can just reveal a tiny bit of his hand—just a little smidge—maybe he can avoid suspect altogether.
“Yeah?”
“I have to ask,” Wes says nervously. “It’s definitely not my business, but yesterday, when I dropped off the coffees…. I kind of saw the picture of that villain? And I was wondering… who told Mr. Wayne that the villain had a sticker of a My Immortal quote? Who had to explain to him what My Immortal is?”
Because surely Tim knows, if not from having read the infamous fic then from doing research about the villain.
Tim smirks and says, “That’s the best part, Wes. Bruce already knew.”
He choked on air, “You’re kidding me!”
“I’m not. I’m really, really not. You didn’t hear this from me, but,” Tim pauses, giving a playful, sneaking look around for any listeners, and he whispers, “my brother Dick referenced it so much that Bruce read it himself.”
“Bruce Wayne. Read My Immortal.” The fucking Batman read My Immortal? Willingly?
“Oh yeah, he did.”
“Did… did he recognize the quote? Did he remember?”
“No, but he did when Dick said, ‘Damn, I hope Batman puts his middle finger up at that prep villain.’”
“Jesus fucking Christ.” Wes knows he’s getting a modified version of what really happened, but he can fill in the gaps. Nightwing quoted My Immortal to Batman. And Batman recognized it because he once read the fic in an effort to relate to his teenage son.
Well, vigilantes are human, too. Why shouldn’t Batman know who Vampire and Bloody Mary are?
The next few minutes pass in friendly conversation before their order name is called, and both get up to collect. Wes tries to get two out of the three carton holders, but Tim intercepts.
“Tim,” he says, half-chastising.
“I just like helping! And this is getting me out of a board meeting.”
Wes’s face screws up in distaste. “Well, that’s fair, then.”
They make their way back to the 73rd floor of Wayne Enterprises and they are hounded in the way that has become so expected for Wes. A new addition to the coffee delivery is Rebecca’s eyes lighting up upon seeing that Tim is helping Wes.
“Did you like last night’s meme, Mr. Drake?” Rebecca asks, collecting her venti iced mocha latte.
Tim nods, “I did. Nice work on the Photoshop. And the filming equipment should be down today.”
Wes watches as Rebecca does her best not to squeal in excitement, “Thank you, sir!”
He nods and turns to Wes, “I’ll see you later, yeah?” His black bangs do nothing to hide the way his eyes crinkle at the corners.
Wes nods wordlessly, his throat suddenly tight and full. Tim’s smile widens and he leaves for the elevator.
When the doors close on his figure, Rebecca jams her index and middle fingers into Wes’s ribs, “Oh my god, were you two on a coffee date?”
“Ow, Rebecca, what? No! He just wanted to escape the board.” Wes rubs his ribs comfortingly, his muscles stinging. “That hurt, what the hell?”
“Sorry!” She’s not sorry at all. “Do you think we can get him to do a TikTok for us?”
He spares a glance at the elevator, which has long since taken Tim up to whatever floor he haunts. “Maybe? It’d make sense, considering the whole CEO thing. Why wouldn’t he be in a TikTok at some point?”
“No reason,” she says, but there’s a fire in her eyes and a mischievous cut to her grin that she fails to hide behind her coffee. Wes’s gut curdles in dread.
“You terrify me.”
“Thanks! Now come to my office. You need to practice your lines for the TikTok.”
“I feel like my mom has to sign some kind of release form if I’m going to be on the WE TikTok,” he warns, but dutifully follows after her. “Also, you have a cubicle. Not an office.”
“Hush, or I’ll take away your stool. And your mom already signed one, so ha.”
“Hushing.” He mimes the action of locking his lips and throwing away the key.
“Ugh, you’re adorable.”
They get to the cubicle and each takes a seat, Rebecca immediately sorting through several stacks of papers before making a triumphant noise and handing him a sheet. Wes takes it and stares at it uncomprehendingly for a few seconds.
“Rebecca, this is just stage directions and the lines to that Cunk on Earth audio.”
She nods, “And if we get the TikTok approved fast enough, maybe we’ll even post it when the trend is still semi-popular.”
“And what will I be actually saying?”
“Don’t worry about that. Just focus on being able to lip sync.”
“Oh boy."
xxXxx
Wes had thought he would have at least a few days to get used to the idea of having his face plastered all over the internet. Unfortunately, it would seem he underestimated Rebecca’s work ethic when it came to something she wanted because she only made him do three retakes, and then she made quick work of editing. Wayne Enterprises' first-ever TikTok would be ready to go live in the morning with his mother’s and Tim’s approval.
The TikTok in question is Wes standing in the Wayne Enterprises lobby, smiling wide and happy at the camera when he first begins talking: “It’s hard to believe I’m walking through the ruins of the first ever city.” He pauses, drops the smile, and says, “Because I’m not: that’s in Iraq, which is miles away, and fucking dangerous.” Then, he holds up two cartons of coffee into the camera frame, all filled with (secretly) empty paper venti cups, and is swarmed by various WE employees who volunteered (or were coerced by Rebecca) to be in the TikTok.
Rebecca doesn’t let him see exactly how she subtitled the video, but he can guess. And sure enough, when the TikTok profile and video simultaneously go live the next day and Wes sees it, he is proven mostly right.
“It’s hard to believe I’m the new face of Wayne Enterprises’ official TikTok. Because I’m not: I’m just an intern, and I get the f*cking coffee.”
Rebecca had even captioned it as if he were the one writing and posting: It’s at least a paid internship. The words are then followed by a string of hashtags. Well, that just goes to show that you can’t trust corporations’ social media, even if they do try to come across as real and friendly and like a person who could be your friend. Parasocial relationships are dangerous, who knew?
“The likes and comments are coming in fast,” Rebecca says, staring down at the WE phone that Tim had sent down with the filming equipment to use for the WE TikTok. She’s also done more than she needed to with it, downloading other social media and logging into them on her personal profiles. Wes didn’t comment on it, even if he did think it was not the smartest move, but she said it was so she could get away with “studying” current trends easier.
“It is Wayne Enterprises,” he remarks. “It’d be like if, I dunno, if Superman finally downloaded TikTok. But, like, this is more corporate greed than ‘protecting humanity’ type of thing.”
“That’s true,” she nodded. “But I mean, the Waynes are pretty generous. I make more here than I would anywhere else.”
“Yeah, fair. And paid internships aren’t exactly common, either.”
Wes wouldn’t admit it, but while he’d given up on proving the Fenton-Phantom conspiracy and other identities, he did still have a bit of a stalking problem. So when Google sent him a news alert about the Waynes making a press statement about the break-in, he immediately hit it to read the article while Rebecca read new comments on TikTok aloud for him to hear.
The Waynes Speak About Break-in At WE
The article discusses how grateful they were to Batman and his flock for stopping the break-in, even if they hadn’t caught the new villain. Really, it’s just a puff piece about the Princes of Gotham’s perception of the Knights of Gotham. And considering Wes’s insider knowledge, the article comes across as a little condescending and self-praising, and he’s close to exiting the website when a throwaway comment near the end of the article catches his eye, and he reads on.
VV: And are you at liberty to say what the villain was looking for? Is it something we should have our eyes on?
BW: [laughs] Well, it’s something that has been spoken about before, I believe? I think Tim could tell you more about it than me. He’s definitely got the brains. You know, when he was—
TDW: Haha, thanks, B! I can’t give too much away because the lead scientist on the project, Dr. Michelle Amir, will get upset, but I can say that we’re expecting a breakthrough in renewable energy.
VV: Are you sure that’s all you can tell us?
TDW: I’m afraid so. Dr. Amir is very protective of her research.
VV: And it would seem with good reason! It’s a good thing Gotham’s own….
…And the interview returns to preaching the Batfamily’s praises.
Wes has to roll his eyes at the Brucie Wayne persona trying to take every conceivable opportunity to gush about his children.
Still, he recognizes that the article was published just a few hours after the TikTok started to go viral. Any reports about the WE break-in will be buried under tabloids dissecting the new TikTok profile and what this means for future WE advertisements. Clever, and exactly what he expects from the Bats.
As he exits the website, a text notification pops up at the top of his screen. It’s from Tucker Foley and all it says is, “YOU!” in all caps.
He sighs as a rush of other texts hit his phone from his classmates at Casper High, some even including the link to the TikTok.
And so it begins.

There’s lots of Witchcraft within our modern times that can be done online. Especially mobile. Many people have a phone even if they don’t have a computer. This makes carrying a digital grimoire and/or secret craft a lot easier. Yet there are some, that still struggle with finding some good resources. So this post is made for just that.
Keep in mind that everything is meant primarily for phones, since that’s the most common thread among digital Witchcraft.

Free Apps
⚜️ TimePassages: An app for astrology lovers! It has a moon tracker as well as daily horoscope (if you’re into that) but one of the best features is its extensive and detailed birth chart information. It includes a birth chart wheel and all its aspects. It’s a great source for working with planetary energies within and without the self. It’s an all around great app.
⚜️ Rock Identifier - Stone ID: There are several apps that claim to identify stones and Crystals but this is the highest rated and the one I enjoy the most. It not only identifies the stone but can offer a bit of info on some of the beliefs around that stones energy.
⚜️ About Herbs: This is a wonderful app that doesn’t get enough love. It’s an app that discusses medicinal advantages and disadvantages of various plants. They are presented by the Memorial Sloan Kettering cancer center, and provide links to the research to back up their claims. They also make it clear that they are for informational purposes and not to self diagnose, or self medicate without proper treatments from your doctor. They are a wonderful app for those who prefer herbal medicine.

⚜️ Divination:
Tarot: This website sells their decks but also gives free single card draws for all of them. What’s great about it is that while tarot does have basic meanings they all share, the artwork on each deck plays a significant role in each meaning, making the reading far more unique then the average deck
Runes: A fairly simple and easy to use rune generator. They offer several spreads as well as the history behind the practice and meanings on each rune.
⚜️ Sigil Generators: Each website offers a different style to the sigils they create. Each as well has a downloadable feature for those sigils you make.

Dream a Little Dream of Me fills the cramped little office of the practice, accompanied by the soft hum of a mobile phone. Halsin pats the floor beside him until he retrieves it, groaning and cracking an eye to disable his alarm. Still groggy from his short night, he rubs a hand across his face and sits up.
Little light filters through the lowered slats of the Venetian blinds. Just enough for him to know that the sun has already risen. He sits there for a minute, taking his time to wake up while embracing the warmth of sunlight upon his cheek. Once his mind has cleared of most of the nightly fuzz, he unlocks his phone, grimacing as the screen’s brightness blinds him at first.
Five messages await him, received during his slumber. All were sent by the same person, professionally registered under the name ‘Ms. Ashguard - Beaky’. With a soft smile, he opens the text thread and reads it.
‘Hassle Beaky been able to eat yet?’
‘*Has, sorry.’
‘Rabbits are his favourite if that helps in any way. Boar is fine too.’
‘What should I prepare for him to come home? Can he stay in the field or is it better that he remains indoors at first?’
‘Sorry for sending you so many texts… Not used to having a pet of my own (if I can call an owlbear a pet, haha!), so I’m just worried. Thanks for everything you do. Good night!’
Halsin chuckles and scrolls farther up the conversation, refreshing his memory of what information he has given Tav and in what manner. He groans in embarrassment when he notices some typos in his messages that he did not see after sending them. He has yet to grow accustomed to his new work phone, especially its keyboard. His fingers are too large to type properly, which often frustrates him. Usually, he notices the mistakes on time before sending emails or messages, but it seems that his fatigue after waking up several times during the night to check on Beaky in the recovery room blinded him to them.
He exits the conversation without answering Tav and begins to type a new message.
‘Good morning Karlach, would you mind buying some rabbit meat from the butcher for Beaky before coming to the practice? You can use the company card. See you later. Halsin.’
He locks his phone and stretches his back, before finally dragging himself off the inflatable bed he set up in his office to remain close to Beaky if something were to happen. Rubbing his round stomach as it rumbles, he paces up to the window and opens the blinds, welcoming the morning light in.
After slipping on his T-shirt, he finds Beaky in the recovery room, curled up on the mattress from his guest room that Karlach helped him bring downstairs. Scratch is huddled up beside the owlbear cup, his ears perking up when he hears his owner’s footsteps.
Halsin goes up to the dog and ruffles the fur on his head.
‘Good morning, Scratch,’ he chimes. ‘You have been taking good care of Beaky, I see. Good boy.’
He reaches into a box perched up at the top of a cabinet and takes out a treat he gives to the white dog. Then, noticing that Beaky is stirring awake, he crouches in front of the cub, letting it sniff his hand before daring to pet it.
‘And good morning to you too, Beaky. Still faring well?’
The owlbear produces a low hoot, scratching the mattress with its paw.
‘Alright, let’s have a look, mh?’
Halsin unwraps the bandages and checks the scars. After disinfecting and airing them, he ties up a plastic cone around the ankle so Beaky does not pick at the scabs while he fixes himself a cup of tea. Before adding some honey to the infusion, he dips mint leaves directly into hot water in his favourite mug, decorated with ducks. While stirring the beverage with his spoon, he hears his phone ping in his pocket.
As he unlocks it, he sees a text from Karlach.
‘On it, Doc! No need to sign your texts, btw, got your number saved already.’
He chuckles and thanks her. He is quite aware of how old he sounds when speaking, but his way of texting seems much worse. Once his tea is finished, he puts the mug down and goes back to the office to deflate the mattress and bring it back upstairs, where he takes the time to shower and change.
Right when he heads back to the practice, dressed in his teal scrubs, he sees Karlach peeking through the door, carrying something wrapped up in an old newspaper. He unlocks the door and the tiefling instantly hugs him.
‘Morning, Doc! Got the rabbit meat here. How’s Beaks?’
‘Doing well. I will bandage him up again and call his owner.’
‘Eager to see her, huh?’ she teases, nudging him in the ribs with a mischievous gleam in her eyes as she makes her way to the recovery room.
He rolls his eyes and comes to watch her feed the cub with the raw meat. He whistles at Scratch, who follows him to receive his breakfast in turn and frolic in the garden afterwards. While the dog is busy chasing a butterfly, his tongue lolling out happily, Halsin takes a moment to call Tav.
‘Hello?’ the voice on the other side of the line answers.
‘Good morning, Miss Ashguard,’ he greets, smiling widely, ‘Dr Silverbough from the Emeral Grove veterinary office speaking.’
‘Oh, morning doctor! Is everything alright with Beaky?’
‘Everything is in order. He had a good night’s sleep and my assistant gave him some fresh rabbit meat. No appetite loss whatsoever! So, I believe that he is in shape to go home. You can pick him up anytime.’
He hears a heavy sigh of relief.
‘Thank you so much, doctor, I will come later this morning. Do I need to prepare anything for his recovery?’
‘No, I will have everything ready for you. No special arrangement necessary on your part.’
‘Oh, great. I will see you then!’
‘See you later, Miss Ashguard.’
She hangs up and he slips his phone back in his pocket. A smile lingers on his cheeks as he fills his lungs with the flowery scent of the air. He eyes his little flower garden on the side of the yard, admiring the daffodils that have finally grown and bloomed. Their golden petals shimmer in the sunlight, only disrupted by the morning breeze. Perhaps he should think of growing a few more next year for the reception. Plants brighten up a place like nothing else, he always says. In the meantime, he will need to be content with ordering bouquets from Jaheira’s shop.
Then comes the time for them to open the practice and welcome the first patient of the morning. Arfer, the elderly man who waters the planters and flowerbeds throughout Heawick, is already waiting at the door, bringing his old tortoiseshell cat in his carrier. Halsin offers him a warm welcome and a cup of tea, then proceeds to examine the animal. It is but a routine check, accompanied by a slightly overdue vaccine.
Despite its advanced age, the feline is in perfect shape, and its senses — and claws — are still sharp. It always pleases him when people take such great care of their furry companions, and much to his relief, the area seems to be filled with loving owners. In just a day, the difference between the patients in Heawick and those from the village and the city where he previously worked has proved quite striking.
Halsin healed too many dogs in dire need of exercise that were kept in cramped rooms and flats. Many ended up overweight and suffered severe issues, and it always tugged at his heartstrings to see them in such conditions. He often wished that he could offer to adopt them instead, knowing that he could offer them a more fulfilling life, but there was only so much that he could do. In some cases, he did trigger the alarm and contact animal protection services. It was never pleasant to see the pets and owners separated, but it was often better this way.
At least he did not just stand by and watch without trying to save the animal.
When Halsin escorts Arfer back to the reception after creating his file, the old man shakes his hand and gives him a toothy grin.
‘It is quite nice to finally have a vet in town,’ he says. ‘I don’t need to travel all the way to the city to have my Clawdia looked at anymore! When I play Talis with my friends later this week, I will tell them about you, doctor. They all have pets, you see, and some of them are too old to travel to the city.’
‘That is quite nice of you, Mr Proudcobble. It is a pleasure to help the local community,’ Halsin responds with a kind smile. ‘That is precisely why I settled down here, after all.’
‘We are in good hands, then, I say!’
Arfer waves him goodbye and does the same to Karlach, who responds with her usual bubbly greetings. Halsin sighs in satisfaction and takes a look at his watch. He still has about an hour before the next consultation. On his way to his office, Karlach intercepts him with a smirk.
‘Doc, somebody is in the waiting room.’
‘I was not aware that we had another appointment in the meantime.’
The tiefling clears her throat with a wink and nods — not so subtly — towards the waiting room. Halsin turns around and sees a fidgeting Tav on one of the chairs. His smile instantly returns to his lips.
‘Oh, good morning, Miss Ashguard! My apologies, I did not see you there.’
‘That’s nothing, doctor,’ she chuckles, standing up and approaching him to shake his hand. ‘I couldn’t wait to pick up Beaky after all, so I came as fast as I could.’
‘That is quite alright. Right this way.’
He walks with her to the recovery room and Tav instantly coos at the owlbear, throwing herself on her knees at its side to cuddle and pet it. The creature seems delighted to see her, acting much like a lapdog and not as a wild animal as it leans against her touch and rests its heavy head on her shoulder. He leans against the doorframe, watching the scene and embracing the warmth spreading through his chest at the sight.
Indeed, Heawick’s region does not lack loving owners.
Once the initial elation has somewhat dissipated, Halsin approaches the two and crouches before the animal, undoing the plastic cone and dressing the wounds again. Tav watches every gesture with interest, knowing that she will need to mirror each and every one of them once she is home. Noticing her staring, he smiles and explains each step, explaining to her what the best way of tying up the bandage is for such a creature.
Then, he stands up and retrieves a bag he prepared the previous night with everything she might need to care for the cub.
‘I prepared this for you,’ he says gleefully while handing it to her. ‘It contains everything you will need. I added some painkillers, but try to use them only if you see that he is struggling. In case of doubt, you can always call or text.’
‘That’s perfect, thanks! What about the stitches?’
‘We can remove them in about two weeks. Sometimes it can be done earlier, but I would rather remain on the safe side. You can already plan the appointment with my assistant.’
‘Great!’
Tav peeks inside the bag and shoves it inside the satchel hanging from her shoulder. As she slips her arms underneath Beaky to lift him, Halsin halts her and does it ever so naturally.
‘If you could open the doors on the way, I would be grateful,’ he chuckles.
‘Oh, of course.’
She guides him through the practice and they stop by the reception so Karlach can make the appointment for Beaky’s stitch removal. Tav pays for the surgery and consultation and goes to open the front door for the vet and the creature. She guides them to her car, whose backseats have been flattened so the cub can be driven around. Halsin places Beaky there, careful not to hit its paw as he does so. When he closes the car boot, he finds Tav standing close enough to him that he can feel the heat radiating from her body.
The two of them, surprised by this sudden proximity, stare into each other’s eyes for a second. Rosy hues tint their cheeks and noses. He admires the way they dance around her freckles, further softening her delicate traits.
But before he catches himself staring for too long, she chuckles and he mirrors her, taking a step back. They both lower their gazes, and he witnesses the wrinkles at the corners of her eyes in action, they which were left unused the previous day.
And gods does she look beautiful.
‘So, um,’ he forces himself to speak to defuse the odd tension settling between them, ‘have you asked your neighbour about the bear trap, then?’
Tav’s eyes widen and she nods vehemently.
‘Oh, yes! Yes, I did. I met with Minsc as you advised, and he came with me to Combury to check the woods near my house. When Mr Bongle saw us by the field and the broken fence, he just confessed to everything.’
She shrugs, almost as though she expected this turn of events from the start.
‘It was just like you predicted, doctor. He felt guilty when Beaky got trapped, so he removed the trap and left. Good thing, though, he’s refunding me the costs of the consultation and the operation.’
‘I see. Well, it is good to hear that you had closure on the matter.’
‘Not really. Minsc told me not to shrug the situation off. He told me that owlbears were protected in the area, which I didn’t know, so I made an appointment with one of the lawyers of the organisation for animal protection. Hopefully, they can do something.’
Halsin nods and glances towards Beaky, who has fallen asleep in the back seat.
‘If it helps in any way, I will be happy to fill in a medical report for Beaky, including the costs and the follow-ups,’ he suggests, nervously rubbing his palm against the back of his neck. ‘I am glad that you are not leaving the matter to rest. Even if Mr Bongle felt guilty, what says that he would not do it to other animals? Besides, Beaky could have sustained worse damage, but he also worsened his condition by yanking the trap.’
‘You would do that?’
As he faces her again, he meets her twinkling gaze. He finds himself short of breath again the longer he plunges himself into their turquoise pools, nearly feeling the freshwater of their streams upon his skin.
‘Of course.’
Tav smiles from ear to ear and tucks a lock of her hair behind one of them.
‘I might take you up on that offer if you truly don’t mind. We should wait until I meet up with the lawyer in the city. I should know more about the process once I speak to her.’
‘Feel free to text me when you know more.’
‘That’s kind of you. Really.’
They smile at each other again and Tav twirls her car keys around her finger.
‘I should get going. Beaky must be exhausted, still.’
‘Of course. I would advise keeping him indoors for the first few nights and changing the bandages every four hours. When you go to bed, you can wait until morning, that should be fine.’
‘Amazing! Thank you, doctor.’
‘Good luck with Beaky and the lawyer. Do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions or doubts. We would rather be bothered than learn that something went south with Beaky.’
‘Will do. Have a lovely day, doctor.’
‘You too, Miss Ashguard. Take care.’
He shakes her hand and steps away from the car as she hops inside and drives away. He waves awkwardly and heads back inside. Karlach is already leaning against the counter with a smug grin.
‘You really won’t admit that you have the hots for her, Doc, will ya?’
‘Karlach, that is not appropriate.’
‘I saw you, you know. All blushy when she looked at you.’
‘When?’
‘All the time!’
‘Sure, Karlach.’
Checking the time, he heads towards his office and turns on the computer. A few minutes later, as he browses several websites with a frown of deep focus creasing his brow, Karlach comes in, bringing him a cup of coffee.
‘Here you go, Doc.’
‘Oh, thank you.’
He wraps his hand around the hot mug, relishing the warmth as he continues to peruse the catalogues and inventories. He hears the tiefling taking a seat behind him and feels her eyes burning through him.
‘What are you looking for?’ she asks, blowing softly on the surface of her own coffee.
‘Larger pillows for big animals. I should have invested in them earlier, but I did not expect to ever have an owlbear as my patient. Thing is, I cannot find them anywhere.’
‘Mmh.’
She takes a first sip of her drink and gasps loudly in satisfaction. It is a good thing that Halsin has such a high tolerance for mouth noises of all kinds, otherwise he would have long been irked by her presence. Thankfully, it is not the case, and he does not even mind when she breathes down his neck when she has got nothing to do.
‘By the way, doc, did you look into the post-op onesies I told you about? It’s definitely better than the cones. My friend, who has a cat, told me that it didn’t even try to scratch or bite the stitches at all. It did walk funny for about two weeks, but that was it.’
‘I did, I emailed several suppliers, and I’m hoping that they will be open to negotiating prices. So far, the prospects are not quite pleasant, to say the least.’
Karlach ponders about the prices for a moment as he shows them to her, checking different suppliers. Indeed, they represent quite a cost for a new practice. Halsin is keeping money to the side, but he is hoping to save it for a rainy day instead of spending it all whenever he thinks about something which could be helpful for the practice before he can be sure that he will make any use of whatever his purchases are.
The young woman sighs and sets down her cup.
‘Hey, Doc,’ she speaks in a melancholy tone, ‘I know that your employing me was nothing but charity. I’m completely aware of it, you don’t need to lie.’
Taken off guard by the sudden turn in the conversation, Halsin turns around with a lifted eyebrow.
‘Karlach, what are you talking about?’
‘No, but really, Doc, I’m not trying to go all emotional on you, but it’s true. I’ve got no qualifications, no diplomas, nothing, yet you still took me in. And I’m super grateful.’
Karlach shrugs and smiles at Halsin.
‘I might not know much, but I know charity when I see it. So, I was wondering if you would trust me to bring that charitable side of you one more time.’
‘What do you mean?’
She nods towards the computer screen and takes the mouse, scrolling through the catalogues for both pillows and onesies, keeping herself from gasping at most of the prices.
‘These are expensive as hell, and I know what I’m talking about,’ she scoffs. ‘But, see, there’s a friend of mine who’s in a bit of a pickle. He might lose his job if he doesn’t do some community service first. Thing is, he’s not the easiest person to live with, he’s got quite a temper, so nobody takes him in. I know that it doesn’t sound like the best of plans, but I can testify that he’s amazing with a needle! He could do his community service here and make the pillows and onesies himself. Perhaps even do some extra chores when you need him to. That will cost you much less than any of that pre-made crap!’
Halsin pauses to consider her words. The practice already needs another team member and he knows it. There are already struggles about the team being so small. If Karlach is busy while he is examining patients, then there is nobody else to welcome other visitors. Another person, even if not a veterinarian, would fix this issue in no time. If they are agreeable, that is, and from what Karlach has said, he finds himself doubting it.
‘Mh. He does not sound very pleasant so far.’
‘Oh, but he is when he puts his mind to it. It might help that I’m working here too. Once he trusts someone, he’s lovely! I mean, he behaves like a cat sometimes, but he’s great!’
He sighs and drinks some of the coffee. It is much too dark, more to her taste, but he does not say a word about it. She made the effort to make it for him, and it is unlike him to bite the hand that feeds.
‘Listen,’ she adds, catching his attention again, ‘I’m willing to be held responsible if he misbehaves. If he messes up, throw me out for even referring him in the first place.’
The veterinarian finishes the cup as fast as he can, chugging the liquid so it does not linger on his tongue too much.
‘He is good with a needle, you said?’
‘A real talent,’ Karlach answers excitedly. ‘He makes some of my accessories in his free time, actually.’
‘Do you think he can start tomorrow?’

You always meet twice part 5
part 1 | part 2 | part 3 | part 4
Ghost/Soap
Ghost wakes up first, after the longest sleep he had in months, years if high on pain meds in medical dosent count. Its warm, really warm and it can't be the sun because its cloudy. He looks at Soap and nearly pushes the Scot out of bed. If it would be possible. Soaps limbs sling around him like a fucking octopus, ironically on the tv is a octopus or sea animal documentary running. He try to remove one of Soaps arm from him what only leads the scot to cling more on to Ghost. "Fucking hell, Johnny", Ghost complains under his breath, really inconvenient. Soap moves in his sleep and Ghost thinks he's moving away from him but it's the opposite. Soap basicly rolls on to him their legs so intwinded that Ghost has no i dea how rto even untangle them. He should never have given Soap special treatment in the first place. And still the cold in his bones is gone melted away by the clingy scot. With no other choice but to stay in bed Ghost watches the TV seeing how the octopus is using a coconut as a mobile hide, atleast he will not get bored till Soap wakes up. Nobody has to know he is not waking Soap up to kick him finally out. He's in trouble and Soap will still get special treatment.
Soap wakes up 2 hours later to someone talking. He's memories are fuzzy, his head arching, hungover as fuck. He trys to figure out what happend after his 6th drink. He remebers a taxi ride back to the hotel with Gaz, Price and Laswell. He rembers Price making sure he gets into his room. After this thinks are still fuzzy. "Yes, of course, will be ready by then", the voice says then humming a few times. The person must be on a phone call. He burrys his face more in to the pillow , a very firm pillow that is moving? His brain is slowly putting one and one together. A person on a phone call, his 'pillow' moving he must be with someone else in his hotel room. "Soap you're awake?", the voice, the very familiar voice is asking him. Ghost, he's in the same bed with Ghost oh fuck what did drunk Soap do and think. Probably something really dumb. "Aye", he says not wanting to move. "Our plane goes in 3 hour, we meet in the lobby in 40", Ghost simply informs him, as if Soap being in bed with him is normal. He was likely on the phone with Price Soap puts things together. Soap makes incoherent noice of protest, to much rest sleep in his brain to move, trying to get the moment as long as he can. He dont want to leave bed yet, likes beeing so close to Ghost. "C'mon Sergeant you need to get ready", Ghost says a lot firmer, while he trys to shove Soap off of him. "Is that an order Lt?", Soap ask sleepy, clinging more to the taller man. He hears Ghost huff amused. "It can become one. You have your key card?", Ghost ask and Soap is making a confused sound why did he need his key card in his room? Some pieces of yesterday return to him. Hes standing in front of Ghost door. Oh fucking hell, what did he do? He rolls of Ghost, strugels a bit to get his legs free, thanks fuck he's still fully dressed and drunk Soap did not forget the key card. "35 minutes you better hurry up." "Did we? Ehh..." god he cant even ask, but he needs to now, he wants to know what they did yesterday. "We just watched TV, till you fall asleep right after you reassured me that you're not about to fall asleep a few." Well if thats the worst he did, Soap can live with it. "Ah, sorry for ehh.. I should go for a quick shower...", Soap stammers before rolling out of bed like a walrus of a ice floe. "See you in 30 Sergeant.", Ghost just says getting out of bed himself. When he walks out Ghost room he runs straight in to Gaz. "Having a walk of shame?", Gaz snikers amsued. "Ah shut up Gaz", Soap hisses, his cheeks burning hot is not helping. With out looking any further at Gaz he is disappearing in his room. He looks at his own phone having several missed calls and giving Price a life signal before he rushes in to he bathroom for a much needed shower. He somehow gets ready in record time and of course he mets Gaz in the elevator again. He's sure Gaz waited for him to ask more questions. "So?", Gaz ask clearly referring to earlier. "Could not sleep watched TV with the Lt." Gaz looks at him as if he trys to fool him. "You watched TV with Ghost?" "Yes." Gaz is squinting his eyes unsure if he believes Soap or not. "God Gaz, as if Ghost would do something like this to risk his career", Soap hisses when they step out in the lobby seeing Ghost and Price talk. "Sergeants", Price greats them look lingering a bit longer in Soap Ghost just nods shortly before ignoring them. Does Price know? Did Ghost tell him? Shit it's not like anything happened besides him clinging to Ghost like a koala to a tree and then used Ghost as his personal pillow. God he really did something. And Ghost didn't even wore his mask and he didn't got a good second look. Oh shit no he will not under any circumstances fall for his embarrassing teenage crush again. No, he's an adult now, he is just admiring Ghost skill and not having his 17 years old dream come true, he's his CO now anyway so he's of limits not to forget according to Tommy Ghost is not even in to guys. So no need to get some teenager hopes up, he probably also should apologise to Ghost later.
Ghost is the first in the lobby waiting for the others, Price is the first one to come down. "Ghost, you now why I couldn't reach Soap but he still knew he had 30 minutes to get ready?", Price ask him suspiciously. "He couldn't sleep, we watched TV", Ghost tells the truth clipped. Price raises a eyebrow. "Well I'm pretty sure that I made sure that Soap ended up in his OWN room", Price conters agitated. "Yeah and he very drunk called me and said he's in front of my door." "And you let him in your room?", Price ask suprised. "What's that really about Price?", Ghost ask hating this tip toeing around the topic. "Heared Gaz ask Soap if he has his walk of shame." Ghost is glad is mask because his face is dropping in utter shock. "So nothing happened?", Price ask stern needig the conformation for his own piece of mind and because it would mean no paper work. "What the fuck Price, you know i would never especially when someone is as drunk as Soap was. And never with a subordinate", Ghost hisses having trouble to keep his voice down now in his anger. "It's not about you it's about how Soap looked at your face when you revealed it", Price hisses clearly getting pissed by Ghost attitude. "Soap and I meet before Al Mazrah. He was friends with Tommy when I just enlisted", Ghost explains equally pissed hating he has to reveal part of his past. Price eyes widen in suprise of this answer. "I oh, does he know?", Price ask referring to the death of his family. "No. Told him we don't talk anymore.", Ghost answers making Price look at him as if he had two heads now. "Thats defently a way to say Tommy died", Price sighs shaking his head. "Could not tell him that on the flight here. Could I?", Ghost hisses angry. "You should tell him, Soap will probably look it up when we are back at home base." "Was that all Captain?", Ghost ask hopeing their talk is over. Soap and Gaz are leaving the elevator getting closer. "The rest can wait till we are back." Ghost hate how this sounds but stays silent as the Sergeants are closing in. He has the feeling he gets a alcohol and cigare therapy sasion with Price as soon as they touch britisch soil.
Soap sits next to Gaz in the flight back. Needing all his metal energy to just look at the wall in front of him. Ghost sits in a dark spot in the plane only his silhouette to see. Soap also feels how Price is looking at him from time to time. Did he fuck up, with ending up in Ghost room? According to Ghost nothing happend and he also didn't feel any arches that would make him think other wise. It's not like Price can see through walls and saw them cuddel. So maybe he didn't fuck up, to bad. Gaz gives him meaningful glances from time to time and its annoying but he dont want to talk about it in a fucking plane, because he is probably about to lose his shit. Jesus fucking Christ it can't be that bad now can it? Why ate they all looking him, its drives him nuts. They dont thing that, he tryed to get in Ghost pants right? They are not wrong, but he cant be that obvious. Right? right! "You good Soap?", Gaz asks him. "Yes", Soap lies, nothing is good. He has a crush on his coamding officer and everyone fucking knows. "Don't worry about it, Price does not look like hes ready to rip you a new one." "Thanks Gaz." "Sorry for putting you in this postion, Price overheared me asking you about your walk of shame." "It was not a walk of shame." Gaz gets a bit closer wispering in Soaps ear: "Sorry i assumed, but you look at Ghost face all doe eyed in the safe house." "I meet Ghost when he was still Simon Riley. Did thought i would see the big brother of a friend in fucking Las Almas", Soap hisses their talk catching the attention from Ghost. "What, spill", Gaz says very intressted. "Meet at a illegal rave." "Are you trying to fuel me? Cant imagin Ghost at a fuckign rave", Gaz says in disbelief, he really trys to imagin a younger ghost at a rave. He even imagin him with his stupid skull mask, it feels wrong, broding Ghost at a colorfull rave waving glow sticks and dancing. "Was not his scene back then either, but he he was there with his brother." Soap explains with out getting in anymore details. Unknow to them Ghost is silently aproaching them to put a stop to waht ever Soap is sharing. "I think you broke my brain Soap. Cant even imagin Ghost in a normal club, let alone a rave", Gaz hisses. "I never saw him dance, cant imagin him enjoying being on the dancefloor." "You two finish gossiping?", Ghost asks them not liking Soap talking about his past, making the Sergeants flinch and knock their heads together. "Yes", they answer in unison and Ghost walks back in the shadows.

Read and Write: Senritsu is dyslexic. She can read and write due to having painstakingly build up a very great Visual-Word-Safe in her memory, but if she has to read words she has not saved / does not know it is a very long and very emberassing ordeal of stuttering and mumbling. Let alone when she has to write a word of which she had not saved the "image" of in her head. To avoid this, Senritsu uses for one a "Reading aloud"-app on her mobile phone that would read for her text she photographs, and if she has to write she uses a Programm on her laptop that takes her spoken words and translates them into written words. Her handwriting and orthography however, are horrible. Thats also why Senritsu is such a big fan of audiobooks. Cooking and Baking: Senritsu is a very keen student when the topic interests her. She was never interested in baking beside keeping herself fed, so she is able to cook noodles and fry bread with eggs. And thats about it. Build a working piece of furniture: Senritsu has a Master Diploma in building and restoring Violines, but her Craft-Master would not let her build an instrument (with the good winterwood) if she was not able to build furniture first. She knows what she is doing. She isn´t still wearing her Tippelei-earring and the journeyman-vest for nothing. Give her the materials and a challenge and she will build you a beautiful cabinet with very pretty carvings. Those scars, short nails and thick callus on her hands did not appeared from a miracle. Drive: Senritsu can drive a car. Please do not let her drive a car. Her feet can nolonger reach the breaks. Shes 4'2".

The Last Time
As much as I am a futurist, I think it is also worthy of our time to look long into the rear view, to reflect on how far we have come, how much change has happened without our really having noticed, and how lives are different from the way they were.
And so I give to you my recurring essay on “The Last Time.” I don’t intend to be sad or morose, although that can certainly happen, such as when we recall the last time we saw a person, especially loved ones. No, I am more concerned in this exercise to reflect on the things, the artifacts, the services, of a society that we no longer utilize, but at the time of our “last time,” we just didn’t realize it.
Worse yet, the longer you live, the longer this list grows. It is inevitable as technology advances—and so do you—that your inventory of things and services no longer consumed gets a little longer each year.
Take, for example, the last time you used a travel agent to buy an airline ticket or book a rental car. Although I cannot pin down the date, I am going to estimate it was around 1997, when Travelocity was riding high. I didn’t think about the significance at the time, until I saw the son of the then-defunct travel agency working the front desk of an airline at the Amarillo airport. Geez, did I help put him out of a job?
It is much the same for hotel reservations, which I now do via a mobile app on my phone. I reserve, pay, and get a digital key so that I do not even have to interact with the front desk. I just go to my room.
Tumblr media
My tech history is littered with products, many of which I still keep in a box or two “just in case,” including 5 1/4” floppy discs, 3 1/2” discs, ZIP discs, CD-ROMs, and so forth. I have every cable imaginable. And what about the office fax machine, a staple rendered obsolete in recent years? It has been a long time, and a few years ago, I learned it had been an even longer time when I went into the COB office to fax something. They laughed when I asked where the fax machine was. They told me to just scan and email it.
OK.
I could go on, and I will. Landline telephone? Payphone? Paper map atlas? I think it is still a good skill to know how to read a map, and not just rely on Google to bark out turn-by-turn directions, but it is pretty rare when I bring out that huge booklet. I used to buy a new atlas every year. I bet it has been eight years or more now.
Let’s look at some other tech items. Did you ever own a black-and-white television? My family had one up until the early-1970s, and the small portable I took off to university in 1977 was also B/W. But that’s the last I remember. And what about your phone? I suspect that most of you are so young that you have never owned anything but a smartphone, while I have recollections of several flip phones and their varietals, as well as a predecessor bag phone, which weighed about five pounds.
There are other things in our lives as well. For example, it may be the last drink you took, the last cigarette you smoked, the last meat you ate. Shedding old habits for new can be hard, and I bet those are the ones that stand out most in our memories, because they all involve things we put in our mouth.
Yesterday I had occasion to write a check. I looked through the registry, and noticed it had been more than two months since the previous, and three months before that one. For a person who used to write checks all the time, I have almost phased it out of my life. Now we Venmo, Zelle, and other methods that have become verbs, or just pay our bills electronically. Truth be known, that’s how I do most of my bill pays, but this one in particular added a fee for credit cards, so I went old school. The tax assessor can be like that.
For that matter, when was the last time you actually swiped a credit or debit card? We have replaced all that with chip readers or tap-and-pay, and now hand scanning at Whole Foods. Swiping is so 2010.
The crazy part of all this rear view remembering is that few among us ever knew what was happening. We were making implicit decisions, not explicit, and so it could not be known until later that we had just passed a turning point. Even when I eventually got rid of the typewriter my parents had gifted me for high school graduation, I did not realize I would never ever use one again.
I challenge you to consider your growing list of things for which the last time has already passed, and most likely completely under your radar. You have all lived long enough, even in your short lives, to have experienced the march of technological progress.
You just don’t realize it. Think on it, and share in the comments.

PLAYING "CLIQUES"
Tumblr media
Alison and her friends weren’t exactly popular at school, but that really didn’t matter because they had each other.  Every weekend the nerdy girls would meet up at Alison’s house to play role-playing games where they could escape from their average lives for a few hours and enjoy pretending to be someone else.
Recently they’d been experimenting with some different games and Alison had found a weird one in a charity shop called ‘Clique’.  It was a game all about role-playing as hot, popular girls and the winner was the character that managed to become head cheerleader and draw all the others into her clique.  Alison thought it would be ironically fun to play.
She’d followed the instructions and customised the game to fully reflect their own school.  The other girls laughed delightedly as she showed them the board with its accurate reflection of their schools room plan and they settled down to play.
As the Games-master, Alison wouldn’t be role-playing herself, but she would be supervising everything else.  She shuffled the deck of character cards, fully based on real girls from their school. She had picked the girls she hated the most - the ones that were her bullies and universally popular.  They were all total spoiled bitches, vain, beautiful and rich.  They were certainly perfect characters for this game. Turning to her best-friend Lauren she offered the cards and Lauren hesitantly picked one.
“Oh no, I got Ashley,” laughed Lauren as she examined the card, “she’s such a nasty bitch, I’m not sure I can play her.  She’s always picking on me because of my weight.”
Ashley was the nastiest of all the popular girls and their defacto leader - pretending to be her was going to be weird.  Lauren tried to adopt an exaggeration of Ashley's resting bitch face and the others all laughed.
“Then again... it would feel good to lose some weight and stop being a fat loser," she sneered.
Lauren gasped and clamped her hand over her mouth. "OMG - why did I say that?"
"Wow you sure got into character fast,” laughed Alison.
"Guys ahhhhhhh something is wrong," groaned Lauren, the smile dropping from Alison's face as her friend backed away from the table.
Lauren was tugging at her clothing and she seemed to be fighting with herself. Her face was twitching and her eyes rolling up in a mixture of pleasure and pain.
"Ohhhhh fuck, I can hear her voice in my head, her memories in my mind. What is this game? What is it doing to me?"
Lauren stretched and the others watched in horror as her skin began to ripple and move. Bones cracked as fat shifted and she moaned helplessly.
All the fat on Lauren's body began to move to her tits and her ass. Her small breasts began to swell up as her face became prettier and her hair whipped back in a tight bitchy pony-tail.
Ashley's familiar features replaced Lauren's as expensive makeup shimmered over her features and expensive manicured nails pushed out of her fingers.
Her loose fitting clothing tightened, a tight green halter neck wrap-top snapping tight around her massive new tits. They jiggled enticingly in their new slutty hammock.
Somewhere in town, the real Ashley was fading from existence as the games magic removed her from reality.
Meanwhile Lauren looked down at herself in shock as the changes slowed. She was now gorgeous and physically every inch the spoiled mean bitch that Ashley was.
"Oh my Gawd," she gasped in Ashley's insulting and superior voice. "I totally turned into that bitch."
Alison looked down at the game in shock. It was magic. It had actually turned Lauren into Ashley.
Lauren was touching herself with a mixture of fascination - but also desire. She clearly liked how her new body felt and she grinned as she checked out her reflection in a mirror. She pulled out a mobile phone - Ashley's device - and using her fingerprint to unlock it grinned as she saw she now had access to all of her former bullies accounts.
Sitting calmly at the table - Lauren grinned at her friends.
"This isn't so bad. I could get used to this," she chuckled. "In fact I think you should start calling me Ashley. I never liked that dorky name Lauren anyway."
"Lauren, we have to find a way to turn you back to normal," gasped Alison.
"Fuck that," grinned Lauren-Ashley nastily, "Look at me... I'm stacked and I'm beautiful. Oh and rich too. Why would I want to go back even if I could. This game is awesome."
Lauren could feel the words coming out of her mouth but it was like someone else was speaking them. Her massive new tits were hard and a deluge of wicked memories and knowledge was flowing through her mind like an expanding oil slick.
Ashley's memories were like a film, covering up her own and sinking deeper and deeper into her soul.
Why fight this? It feels so good. This loser Alison can't be allowed to stop me.
Grabbing the Clique board, Lauren-Ashley pulled it towards her and laughed. "I'm taking over as Games Mistress bitch."
Pulling the deck of cards out of Alison's hands she began to search through. "You know why they call this game Clique? Because you win once you convert the other players into your followers OR eliminate them from the game, you win and this becomes permanent."
Laughing she dealt three cards out in quick succession to the other girls.
She turned them over one at a time. "Sarah, you get to become my best-friend Chloe. Hannah it's your turn to be a bitch too, you're going to become Chelsea. You're going to enjoy being my spoiled rich wing-girls."
Alison watched in horror as her friends began to groan and transform. Bitchy brunette hair lengthened as the former nerds morphed into skinny, mean Alpha girls. Neither was as busty and dominant as Ashley - but they were just as evil. Dressed in matching black crop tops and blue jeans they groaned and giggled as they delightedly touched their new bodies and fell into flank their new Alpha.
"Lauren... no... what have you done?" whimpered Alison as her new bully laughed and reached out to flip over the card she'd chosen.
"I told you nerd, I'm Ashley now. Lauren is gone and I LOVE being a big titted bitch. Now let's see if you enjoy the card I picked for you?"
Alison's eyes widened as she saw that Lauren had picked Ashley's pathetic step-brother Dawson. He was a total loser and madly in love with Ashley. He followed her and her girl gang around and did whatever they told him. Rumour had it that Ashley even made him wear a chasitity cage.
As she felt her body begin to transform and a tiny cock push out from between her legs, Alison wept as the other girls laughed at her.
"Ohhh yes, that's soooo hawt," giggled the new Chlesea as she touched up her mascara. "Turn that loser into an even bigger loser and win the game."
The new Ashley grinned as the last of her old personality was erased and she accepted her new role as Alpha bully. "Looks like I win," she smiled delightedly.
"You always win babe," smiled Chloe. "That's why we're in your clique."
Looking down at his pitiful caged cock, Dawson felt his memories of being Alison fade away and watched as Ashley tossed the game into the trash and clicked her fingers.
"Come on then bitches. We have a school to run."
Like a whipped dog he followed his hot popular step-sister and felt his devotion swell.
He loved serving such a Goddess.
The new bullies would never tell anyone about the game. They didn't care that they had stolen these lives or erased their old ones.
All that mattered was being part of the Clique.
THE END
