Opinion, I miss pop punk that used to be just like fun. I miss when the songs sounded like first date by blink-182 just like cheesy stupid but you loved it. I think the closest we have to that now is games we play and girlfriends but that’s it maybe magnolia Park.
Ohhh. Interesting 🧐 I’d say I agree with your first point, but hard disagree on the second;
Of course songs like First Date, My Friends Over You, The Anthem etc. have that quintessential fun and ‘bouncy’ pop-punk sound and I LOVE those songs to death
I also do agree there’s much more of an notion - and an unnecessary one at that - in modern pop-punkers that there has to be an element of seriousness & maturity, both musically and lyrically
I mean hell, look at Broadside’s latest stuff compared to anything off Old Bones, or The Wonder Years’ latest album compared to Melrose Diner; I can definitely see where you’re coming from with the ‘where’d the fun go?’ kinda feeling
BUT!! ☝️ I disagree that there’s not as many fun pop-punkers these days, we’ve still got plenty!
We’ve of course got the guys you mentioned who are all great, but we also still get that fun & bouncy energy in the latest releases from State Champs, WSTR, Between You & Me, Neck Deep and plenty more, including Blink themselves!
(Dgmw, Edging is no First Date, but it’s certainly still a lot of fun!)
I mean, come on, have a listen through all these and tell me they don’t sounded infectiously fun! 😄
These guys are still turning up, still giving us that fun, energetic, bouncy, unabashed pure pop-punk sound 🤘🖤
Pop-Punk’s Not Dead and it’s still just as fun as ever my friend! 🖤
