Do you remember when subbers used to get "fancy"? I remember watching a Naruto Fansub and when he used Rasengan the subtitles swelled when he called the attack name. And at least one time they spun too. Some people are just that extra.
It's basically a meme to poke fun at fansubs now, but at the end of the day, while encompassing pretty much the entire spectrum of competence, amateur teams are definitionally going to give more of a shit than professionals actually being compensated for their time. Anyway I had to track down and download the old Lunar fansubs of Ouran because I tried to watch the Funimation ones once and had an allergic reaction to them not matching the fonts of the text on the screen.
...Just opening the episode at the top of the folder to a random point to grab the first decent examples I ran into I was decadently coddled by the subbing team approximately once every three seconds. Why would I NOT want to live like this. EVERYTHING labeled is captioned next to where the text actually is on the screen in the same color and a font with the same vibe as long as there's space to do that legibly. Twists at the ends of sentences with pointed pauses in them fill in when the characters actually say them so you can't read ahead and lose the comedic/dramatic timing. The opening theme has a translation of the lyrics AND a phonetic transliteration, AND the transliteration fills in to full visibility as each syllable is reached like a sing-along video to make it easier to follow along--which wasn't even weird! That was sort of industry standard before faster official releases started outmoding fansubs, except I'm not sure if you can technically call free guerilla translations made by volunteers an industry!
You also got plenty of Millennium Tin Sticks, but it's not like I can watch twenty consecutive minutes of subtitled TV through friends' Crunchyroll subscriptions without hitting at least one moment of "lmao WHY", except those don't even make good memes. They just make me either vaguely concerned about worker conditions or disappointed depending on what flavor of stupid they represent.

i hope your hands are feeling better now~ 😭 i'll be occupied for a little bit starting next week so i figured i could send an ask before (do take your time to answer this though!)
how would your ocs react to mc saying that they remind them of a puppy (leumin) or a cat (luc/njero)? actually, i'm not sure if luc is more of a dog or a cat vibe-wise but leu gives me big puppy energy so i had to ask lol
PS: i'm looking forward to the valentine's jam (though i'm sure whatever you're cooking would be good 🥰)
Hi again, Lacie!! My hand is doing much better now, thank you for checking in on me 🥺 (I did some hand exercises and went right back to drawing/writing, so let's hope it stays that way lol)
ANYWAY, to answer your adorable question, Leumin's reaction would be pretty interesting actually! Depending on your relationship (whether you're friends or dating), he'd wonder if you're trying to call him cute in an indirect way, blushing the entire time 😌 If you're dating, then he would get pretty suggestive- smirking before saying something like, "I remind you of a puppy, huh? Does that mean you wanna put a collar on me, petal? ...Because I'd prefer to be the one doing the collaring-"
Lucas and Njero are a lot more chill about the comparison 😂 And personally, I think both Luc and Njero give cat vibes, yeah! Luc being more of a lazy, affectionate cat while Njero is quiet and chill (while also seeking affection randomly).
HEHE, thank you for believing in me, seriously 😭💖 I'm super excited about this project, I just hope it's able to be portrayed that way through the game! I plan to release it exactly on Valentine's Day, so keep an eye out for it! ^^

Priest (Author) Character Tournament
[“Anti-propaganda” is not allowed. Please only give reasons to vote FOR a character, and please be courteous in the notes.]
Wen Kexing from Faraway Wanderers
Submission:
Character of all time (to me). Cannibal. Malewife. Flaming homosexual. Strongest mfer in jianghu after literal immortal. Surprisingly realistic portrayal of c-ptsd and dissociative disorder considering all of the above. Half of the couple that rewired my brain chemistry and gave me unrealistic expectations for romance -_-
Jing Beiyuan from Lord Seventh
Submission:
Honestly what a guy. He was dealt such a bad hand and yet he stays Chillin’… by which I mean sacrificing both his own morals and his physical safety to put a guy that he’s fundamentally ‘meh’ about at this point on the throne because everyone else is so much worse. He wants to be a dad so so badly it’s heartbreaking (until it isn’t!). He has Old Man Vibes™️ because he remembers three centuries worth of past lives and it makes him deeply weird but he’s still the prettiest boy anyone has ever seen. He was a jasmine plant for a while. 10/10 best at taking naps and pretending to be a loser. Go king give us nothing <3

i found a manhwa SO bland that it made me want to redo it myself imagine the level
the actual manhwa (Fell Into the Arms of a Mad Villain) is not bad itself, but is really really generic. Sooo i made a little parody! the main story is the same but the FL have no idea which of the hundreds of novels she read she's in, have a little too much of moral flexibility and doesn't really care if the villain wants to marry her as long she's safe and healty. While the ML is kind of the same but with the change of the FL they have this playful flirt dynamic instead of the original scared-bunny vs scary leon/monster/smth.

But every once in a while, you find someone who sees you. It's rare, but when that happens, it's the most freeing experience. In that moment, you don't just feel beautiful. You are beautiful.

Being petty about THS and IWWV
If you are reading The Secret History with the assumption that you’ll agree with the murder, you won't be satisfied. If you are reading the book with the intention to hate Bunny, you are reading it incorrectly. He wasn’t a good person, he was annoying and loud, he was the most different from everyone else, and he treated his friend awful at times, but he didn't deserve to be killed by the people he loved. At the end his greatest sin was being "dumb and fat".
And Richard knows it, others probably realise it, in some way, too. The story, not even Richard Papen, is trying to convince you that the murder was ever justified, you should be persuaded, put into the same mindset as the characters were in, that murdering Bunny - over the simple things he did and Henry’s notion that he would give them away - was the only possible way out.
Richard the actor in many ways was worse than Bunny. He hurt his classmates publicly, during rehearsals and performances, shoved his girlfriend to the point of making her bleed and insulting her in the public and throwing his cousin across the lawn. Unlike Bunny, he was physical and unapologetic about his actions, but he was never more than a bully. Yet we are supposed to believe he became so horrible he was deserving to be left for death by his friends for other reasons than because the plot needs it. His change in behaviour came suddenly, with little to no real reason nor preface, with Bunny, he was always himself - annoying, loud, nosy, distinct in the crowd - which turned out to be dangerous qualities in covering up a crime.
Richard the actor didn’t deserve to die more or less than Bunny did, but his death, even with it being an accident and overall less direct, doesn’t feel justified or reasonable. To add to it, the other thespians don’t feel like people in such a mindset as to let their friend of three plus years die, at any point of the book, we are supposed to believe they are less than good, sensible people (aside from the points when Wren breaks down during audition and James breaks down in the library, even Alexander’s overdose comes out of nowhere and is soon forgotten). No matter how much Oliver wants us to think they are falling apart, regrets of Richard’s death always come as an afterthought to whatever else is happening.
James killing Richard in self defense is a reasonable action, given that he almost killed him before, but for most of the story we live with the assumption Richard’s injuries were accident and they left him die over basically nothing and make a huge deal about it, which significantly weakens the story as a whole.
Bunny was a real threat, however serious, to his friends, however at the end he was just annoying and an unpleasant person to be around. His murder was premeditated and done by a group of volatile lunatics manipulated by a sociopath obsessed with the ancient world. They deal with the guilt and consequences, question their decision and are constantly worried someone will discover what actually happened.
Richard was a highschool bully, killed in self defense while drunk and out of his mind by one of his friends, murder helped to cover up by another and when he was left half dead the next morning, the rest of the group was easily convinced to let him drown with weak reasoning. The police dismiss finding Alexander’s dead body in the lake with his head caved in, eyeball out of its socket, and neck and limbs twisted as an accident. The lead detective investigated further only after one of the classmates tipps him off on the basis of something non-specific to him, and easily believed another classmate when he falsely confessed. None of the group ever comes out and reveals the truth over the course of 10 years.
The whole thing with Oliver’s parents not being able to pay his tuition because of his sister’s ED was so unbelievably useless and wasn’t even fun to read. The only thing it managed was to make him look like a little bratty asshole, that hates his parents for no reason, objectifies his sisters, and shames his sister for having ED, plus there are no indications of us having to see him as a flawed person since everyone around just calls him nice and selfless. It’s apparent that the whole reason for this happening is to make Oliver clean The Castle and find evidence, but that was not necessary at all. Someone needs to clean the place, they could’ve been taking turns and he just happened to find the things, maybe he could’ve developed an obsession with cleanliness after the murder or just been very cleanly from the beginning, or he could’ve simply stumbled upon them. Not to mention that he plans to hide the fact that he’s cleaning the place from his roommates. As if they wouldn’t notice the place is clean, as if they would care that someone is cleaning their living space. I personally didn’t mind the cleaning scenes themselves, they vere enjoyable enough.

ooooooh my god. imagine marinette retelling a cute tale of her mom or dad reading her to sleep as a kid, or reading her a book when she was learning to read, and adrien and kagami are like, dumbfounded.
parents.... do that? and they’re both like “no one has ever read a story to me.”
so she plans a sleepover and tucks them into personalized pallets on the floor in a tent of sheets and reads them a story of their choosing to sleep
