A Comment on the SCP-ML Crossover

Post Being Mentioned

This was originally an ask, but it got so long I figured it would be best to make it a submission instead.

Okay, I just felt like I had to correct this, but the jade ring mentioned, which I presume to be SCP-714 ‘The Jaded Ring’, does not make you 'go wild’.

Really, it does the exact opposite. To list the actual effects, taken directly from the SCP article itself:

1) Exhaustion, Compulsion to Rest/Sleep

2) Slowed Reactions, Sluggish Movement

3) Reduced Mental Capacity

4) Mental 'Shield’

5) Chemical Tolerance

These would probably not be associated with 'going wild’.

But I suppose I can understand the confusion, since there’s quite a lot of SCPs written up, over 7000 as of this time of writing, and only going up as time goes on.

There’s also the possibility that jade ring mentioned is actually a completely different SCP that just so happens to also be a jade ring which has the effects as described.

And while I’m at it, I might as well address the assignment of SCP-001 and SCP-002 to Plagg and Tikki specifically.

Firstly, SCP-001 doesn’t exactly have a singular established article, rather it has multiple variations, written by different people, ranging from the Sun turning every lifeform on Earth into horrific melted flesh monsters (S. D. Locke’s Proposal - “When Day Breaks”) to an explanation of why all of the Foundation’s fronts all have the initials of SCP, yet no one ever points it out (Pickman-Blank Proposal - “The Frontispiece”) to the very first, yet relatively minor, anomaly contained by the Foundation (Dr Gears’ Proposal - “The Prototype”). I don’t really know if the position of SCP-001 really fits Plagg, but… I guess one could make it work.

Moving on to SCP-002 “The Living Room”, which is an anomaly that from the outside, look likes a fleshy tumor with an iron hatch attached. And inside?

A 'standard low-rent apartment of modest size.’ as quoted directly from the SCP in question.

The furniture is however, made of human materials. Including flesh, blood, bone, etcetera.

One could argue that turning people into furniture is technically a form of creation, but that probably doesn’t justify the casualties.

So I think rolling with the idea of something SCP-esque but not directly where the Miracuclass are scientists studying these weird eldritch beings would be interesting.

haven’t read desert all the way through, there are excerpts i’ve seen that i think are very dumb. but i think that particular quote isn’t specific to anarchism at all. the same kind of hopelessness (which frankly i think is correct, but maybe that’s just my mental state) can be found in any revolutionary movement. ML groups for example just turn it into worship for “actually existing socialism,” they deny that it’s hopeless because the RIGHT nation-states are coming to save us. but really it’s just coping.

Well hi, didn't expect you to reblog my post. Don't follow you or anything, but a week or so ago I asked you about recs on anarchist literature for ML, so it was a surprise.

(It's true that it was my sideblog so I am asking on anon)

I didn't read much of it (though I have read some anarchist pamphlets on nationalism and continue reading "Against His-story, Against Leviathan", which is like anticiv thing but also interesting, even though I can point out some parts which are obsolete). However specifically because of seeing discourse on your blog I have read "On Authority" and you know the rest. I will later proceed to tormenting one other ML blogger about this (probably should have done this directly but the ML circle is currently chewing anarchism in a way that frankly appears more to be a sectarian grudge than direct criticism (like MLs and anarchists are very different but at times it turns into idealistic nonsense), so I would like to be prepared), so like, do you know any other popular works that MLs cite as arguments against anarchism? I saw quotes from one Stalin's essay, and I would assume that "State and Revolution" is tangentially related, but do you know anything else that's popularly brought up?

Hey. Sorry for being late. Wanted to answer this privately, but I don't know how.

Honestly, I am not that well versed in ML theory, since reading it tends to make me increasingly angry, but I asked a bunch of MLs on a server and they recommended "Socialism or Anarchism" by Stalin of all people, so make of that what you will. They also recommend "The State and Revolution", but they also believed that "On Authority" was absolutely correct, so...

Keep in mind though, these guys banned me from their server as soon as I revealed I was an Anarchist and disagreed with their proposal that every white person in Turtle Island should be forcibly deported to Europe. This definitely feels a lot more like a sectarian grudge than anything actually coherent. If you want my perspective, it kind of feels like they are more interested in vengeance and appearing/being powerful than actually changing the social fabric, but I digress.

The Luxembourg museum (called ML), a museum for the wealthy elite which try to popular.

Proclaimed the “successor to several institutions”, the Luxembourg Museum is one of those museums which participated in the cultural influence of France, and specifically Paris, throughout two centuries. In 1750, it was the first museum of ancien art open to the public. But why is it not the most well known and popular museum in Paris today ? What I mean is that we mention the Louvre, the Orsay Museum and L’Orangerie more than the ML. I think there’s a lack of accessibility and modernity of its exhibitions.

I want to focus on the written summary published on the website of the ML which I already quoted to introduce this review. The ML is presented as a place where to admire contemporary pieces of art. The museum was “sacred” and powerful because theses pieces of art were moved to the Louvre museum at the artists’s death. This desire for notoriety and prestige lives on in 2022. But the museum has lost its power due to a lot of relocations and the gift of its collection to several museums in Paris. Forty years after its closure, the museum opened again. It’s now directed by an institution that groups the national museums in France. However, exhibitions are not really accessible even if it’s a public institution.

I will argue why it’s not enough, but I admit, well advanced. First, the price isn’t correct. The full fare is 13 euros and the reduced rate is 9 euros (included young people under 26). The prices are expensive in comparison with the prices of the Louvre that included collection and exhibitions for only 15 euros. It’s the same than the Centre Pompidou. These museum are free for people under 26. That’s why I assign it with the highest classe. My personal experience is really recent, and happen this week during the Nuit Blanche. Thank’s to the event, I could visit the exhibition Mirroir du monde for free throughout the night. That was my first experience but also the one of my friend, for the same reason than mine. The price isn’t accessible. I discover thank’s to the research for this article, that a price « Special Jeune » exists after 4pm but not the week-end.

The identity of the museum evolved. The communication of the actual exhibition is very dynamic. Subway’s posters attract me. It’s more modern and young through pink color used for the background. That’s a new vision on the ancient art. Pastel colors reveal the beauty of objects presented in the exhibition. It’s something that we don’t highlight with traditional and former posters of this museum. However, the risk of this new typography causes clumsiness. The text isn’t in harmony with the image. But I support this change.

The scenography is a rework of this new identity. What a pleasure to admire the collection with colors that contrast with objects. Each new color indicated a new space and topic. I was surprise to discover the real size of the Jesus’s figurine used on the poster. The wee Jesus was dominated the display, even if it is more big than him. Mirrors and holes on the wall played with the collection too. The captions were discret but guided us by funny numbers engraved and colored in piece of wood. The scenography was efficient and teaching but the exhibition too brief. I’m curious to see more variety of displays and more interplay with the visitor.

Finally, the most important part was the reading of the exhibition catalogue. I was amazed by the two different forms: one book and one news paper more concise. These several editions were adapted to different kind of public. I notice the accessibility that allow these documents. The book is an encyclopedia while the news paper is a souvenir to outline the exhibition. Prices are different as well. The news paper is only for 6 euros despite its courted typography. The negative point is the excess of this typography for the both. That was the first thing that observe my friend « too much » and it makes the reading more difficult. The corporate Paper! Tigger! took a lot of bias, for example big indents plus narrow margin, several justified settings and most of all the choose of a display typeface for the running head. This typeface was in addition bold. The graphic designer adopted a spectacular layout than a useful ones.

I don’t recommend this exhibition but I also don’t advise against it. The ML is about to growth, there are negative as good aspects . We should track the following exhibitions because Mirroir du monde was the begging of something new. But not yet something revolutionary to cost 13 euros.
