Saeko Mizuno (Ami's mother) always looks at Makoto as another daughter. As hard as it is for Makoto to still deal with the loss of her parents, Saeko made her feel so much better.

Hi, i’m temporarily awake from my coma. Time to post more sailor moon musical gifs I made for the past few weeks. Starting off, some Le Mouvement Finale starring our favorite dysfunctional family, the Outers.
Tumblr media
What family does not try to embarrass you in front of a crowd of people?
Tumblr media
Look at them, they’re not even sorry!
Tumblr media
Poor Uranus just couldn’t get a break, not even from the Inner senshi.
That is all for today, I will be returning to my slumber to dig up some more myu-sical goodness.

Tangled Web (chapter 7) - Throwback Thursday edition
A birthday party, a crush revealed, and a thing that happens when Saturn acts out. There's just something about her eyes...
Random note: I'm editing from the original .doc file, and I could tell the moment I switched word processors because the formatting halfway into the chapter changed. That made for some interesting editing this chapter.
“Haruka.”
Some of her grin fell away as she sat up on the bed and crossed her legs.  It was amazing how much could be conveyed in the tone of one word as it fell from Michiru’s lips.  Anger, passion, amusement, the occasional bit of jealousy, the change in moods often subtle, but always there in the way she said ‘Haruka.’
Rather deftly interpreting Michiru’s tone this time to mean ‘we need to talk about something that will potentially make you unhappy,’ Haruka’s arms crossed in preparation of the conversation.
Michiru set her brush down and moved over to sit at the foot of the bed.  Lips still tinged in a delicate shade, she smiled in a calming way before she began to speak.  But as she went on in a slow, even manner about what had happened between Hotaru and Kyo, Haruka’s frown deepened.
“Did he try anything?” asked Haruka unhappily.
“Nothing as far as I know,” answered Michiru.  “I suppose he realized there wasn’t much he could do, other than seek answers from a safe source.”
Haruka snorted.  “As long as he keeps it to himself.  Besides, he had it coming to him.  And I’m surprised you’re punishing her like that, after everything you said about him.”
“I’m only going to do enough to impress my point,” answered Michiru.  “After she finishes helping me pack, she can go play with the others.”
Her lips pursed, and Haruka studied Michiru’s features for a moment.  “There’s something more bothering you,” she said.  “You think I’m not taking it seriously enough?  Because I do know that part of our responsibility to Hotaru is to teach her responsibility, and maybe I am being too careless about this.  If you want me to talk to her, too…”
“That’s not it,” replied Michiru with a slight shake of her head.  “I believe her when she says it was an accident, and knowing she put Ami in the position she did, as well as the harm it could do to the others, will be enough to give her pause if a moment like this comes up again.  There was something else, though.”
Her voice trailed off for several seconds as she reflected on what had been said.  And what hadn’t.  Her voice softer and edged in uncertainty, she went on, “Hotaru kept something from me, Haruka, and it frightens me a bit, because whatever it was seemed to pain her greatly.  It’s also made me fear that in trying so hard to ease Hotaru’s burden, we may have overlooked the other member of our family.”
Scooting forward on the bed, Haruka moved so she could put her arms around Michiru.  Pulling her into a warm embrace, she whispered, “We do as much as Setsuna will allow us to do.  She’s always going to be guarded, Michiru.  But she’s just a little less guarded with us, so we can be there when she needs us to be.  You know we can’t force things with her.”
Michiru leaned into the embrace and nodded in acknowledgement.  Yet the hidden presence of so many secrets and half truths tickled at her mind.  How many were there, she wondered, both in this house and her own.

KENJI MATSUI (SEN MITSUJI) IS LOOKING FOR…
Connection: Siblings (Brother and Sister 0/2)
Suggested Name: First Name UTP but last name Matsui
Age Range: 26-39
Species: Human. Or Vampire/Werewolf if turned
Suggested FCs: UTP. Andrew Koji and Sonoya Mizuno were the first that came to mind, but here are a few others: James Yaegashi, Matt McCooey, Ian Anthony Dale, Tony Thornburg, Nichole Sakura, Hanako Greensmith, Ayami Nakajo. As long as they are half-Japanese, it’s fine by me.
Connection Description:
Born and grew in San Francisco for most of their lives, the siblings pretty much only had each other for company because their parents were strict and controlling. Up to you as to how your character felt about this but Ken eventually grew weary of fighting with their parents and fell into step like they had wanted.
Father was a businessman and Mother was a Lawyer, so power and ambition were the leading traits. It was both a surprise and not when their father betrayed his business partner to climb the ladder and make a profit. Unbeknownst to them, they were a witch and had cursed* their parents to a life of betrayal and misery. (* Ken’s bio goes into detail about the curse, this is just a summary)
Within a few years, both his brother and his sister had left/ran away from home unable to bear their parents control, and not long after Ken left too. After moving around a lot and at one point helping his parents again because they guilted him, Ken was found by rouge vampires and was turned. Up to you if your character is human or if they were turned. Human would be interesting with Ken being immortal and all, hello potential for angst!
Ken hasn’t been in contact with his siblings for over a decade now. He tired when they initially left but as Ken was still under his parents thumb, it became hard to hide and eventually all contact ceased. But because they had a strong bond during childhood, he doesn’t hold and grudges for them leaving, in fact he thinks it’s better they did. Up to you if your character decided to keep tabs on Ken or not.
I do envision his siblings being better than him in terms that they knew what they wanted and knew when it got too much, so they left. But of course, it could be the opposite and the reason could be anything! We can definitely plot it out.
Please be sure to contact the player before applying:

Ami eventually accepts that her father is never going to be the parent that she needs/wants. Instead, she maintains a relationship mainly for his sake--giving him the pleasure of an audience is worth the sting of knowing that he'll never truly acknowledge or understand her.

4 Things You Can Try Now That You’ve Read THIS IS HOW YOU LOSE THE TIME WAR
(technically 5 things)
Tumblr media
Mabel - a podcast by Becca De La Rosa and Maybell Marten.
Tumblr media
Anna Limón is a home help worker currently looking after the elderly Sally Martin. When Sally has a bizarre and frightening reaction to a box of letters Anna finds in her attic one day, Anna attempts to seek answers by contacting Sally’s only known living relative: Mabel Martin.
“A podcast about ghosts, family secrets, strange houses, and missed connections,” Mabel is a story that is difficult to describe, but one of the most important points is that the vast majority of it is an epistolary narrative between Anna and Mabel, just like how This Is How You Lose The Time War is an epistolary narrative between Red and Blue. It also has a very distinct writing style- dramatic, flowery, and a little bit intimidating. However, if you loved the writing style of TIHYLTTW, I personally think that Mabel is a perfect match for you.
Tumblr media
And I’m not just saying that because Mabel is a story about two extremely overdramatic women who are somehow both frighteningly caustic yet almost adorably useless.
Tumblr media
The Honey Month - a book by Amal El-Mohtar
I certainly hope I don’t have to tell you this, but Amal El-Mohtar is one of the authors of This Is How You Lose The Time War, and The Honey Month is a short book she wrote several years ago.
Tumblr media
The Honey Month is almost more of an experiment than a book- in its introduction, a friend of El-Mohtar explains how she sent her several small samples of honey, leading El-Mohtar to use the gift as in a unique way. For one February, every day she used a different vial of honey as inspiration for a small piece of writing.
Tumblr media
The Honey Month contains 28 short pieces of writing, poetry, prose, and some things in between. It’s a small book full of things with big impact, and contains the lyrical yet meaty writing I enjoyed from El-Mohtar in TIHYLTTW.
Tumblr media
Otherside Picnic (裏世界ピクニック) - A series of novels by Iori Miyazawa (illustrated by Shirakaba)
Tumblr media
College sophomore Sorawo Kamikoshi longs to find an escape from other people, and in trying to find it discovers the Otherside, a strangely beautiful yet unfathomably dangerous parallel world inhabited by the-once-fictional creatures she knows from net lore. She also meets Toriko Nishina, another young woman with a knowledge of firearms and a desire to find her missing mentor. Together, these two girls explore the Otherside and find themselves changing little by little, both due to their adventures, but also due to their relationship with each other.
Tumblr media
If you know me you probably aren’t surprised at this reccomendation. Otherside Picnic is a truly odd beast- it’s sci-fi, it’s horror, it’s comedy, it’s yuri. It’s about trauma, it’s about Japanese creepypasta, it’s about useless lesbians, and it’s about how the scariest thing of all is being vulnerable with another human being. I think fans of  This Is How You Lose The Time War  will enjoy it- Otherside Picnic’s writing style will likely feel almost spartan compared to TIHYLTTW, but in my opinion there’s a similar level of poetry in it. There’s also a similar level of women who are “badass” yet kind of messes. You’ve heard of “Enemies to Lovers,” get ready for “Accomplices to Lovers”!
Tumblr media
(there’s also a manga adaptation by Eita Mizuno, as well as an anime adaptation directed by Takuya Sato)
Tumblr media
The Handmaiden (아가씨) - a movie directed by Park Chan-wook (written by Park and Chung Seo-kyung, based on the novel Fingersmith by Sarah Waters)
Tumblr media
In Japan-occupied Korea, the pickpocket Sook-hee is recruited by a con-man to aide him in his scam of a Japanese heiress, Lady Hideko. While the con-man poses as “Count Fujiwara” and woos Hideko, Sook-hee will play the part of her maid and subtly push the heiress towards him. But as time passes, Sook-hee begins to realize there are things occuring in the mansion that are even more sinister than her and the Count’s scheme, and there is much, much more to Hideko than meets the eye.
Tumblr media
This is a list of recommendations for “people who have finished “This Is How You Lose The Time War,” but I try to recommend The Handmaiden to as many people as I possibly can. I’ve described it in the past as the cinematic equivalent of running a marathon: with a 144 minute runtime full of gorgeous direction and set design, dark machinations, twisted yet romantic writing, often troubling themes, and so, so many plot twists, it’s a movie that nearly feels like too much of a good thing. But for fans of TIHYLTTW, I’m sure what will intrigue you most is the relationship between the two main characters, one so complicated that “Enemies to Lovers” can’t hope to capture the roiling feelings of pity, guilt, hatred, desire, annoyance, sympathy, and everything in between.
It’s also just really hot.
Tumblr media
The Handmaiden is a movie that is best enjoyed going in knowing as little as possible. That said, it is also a story with dark and often upsetting themes that are absolutely crucial to its narrative. If you are concerned about that statement,  I reccomend looking at the movies’ entry on DoesTheDogDie, which I have looked at and found to be a pretty comprehesive list of content warnings that can be examined in a way that doesn’t spoil the twists of the story.
Tumblr media
Fingersmith - a novel by Sarah Waters
I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I swear I’m going to get around to it!! I can’t technically recommend the book that inspired The Handmaiden since I haven’t read it yet, but I have at least one friend whose opinion I trust who sings its praises, so it’s good enough for me. Besides, if the recent popularity of This Is How You Lose The Time War has showed us anything, it’s that people constantly crave stories about complicated women, so it certainly can’t hurt, right?

I always liked that Persona 2 also talked about the Christmas cake label and the theme when exactly a woman should marry, have children or why not never marry at all and live childless. I have always thought that it was annoying when people ask about ‚when will you marry, have children etc.‘
The three example that mention the Christmas cake trope are Junko, Ulala and Mizuno.
Kurosu Junko/Queen Aquarius in Tsumi wishes to be young again since not only is Kashihara dead in Tsumi making her far more nervous about her actress career (she likely fears that she will only get aunty roles and no interesting roles anymore) and obsessed with youth. Since Jun grew up as a latch-key child he on the one hand disliked this but also wanted Junko’s attention (he plays piano to please Junko, he likes omletts since she often made them, he hates cup noodles since he associates it with being neglected). Junko then ends up redeeming herself by sacrificing herself for Jun at Caracol when she realizes that Joker is Jun.
While Junko is still pretty young as a mother (37, thus she was 20 when Jun was born) there is of course always the subject with her job as an actress if she is still able to get good roles etc.
In Japan when actresses have children and/or marry there are almost always immediately speculations whether the actress retires (it‘s always encouraging when you see that actresses don‘t give up and return). It‘s actually quiet good for Junko that she has ended up in business for so long already.
Tumblr media
In Batsu Kashihara Akinari is alive and Junko merely uses Kurosu Junko as a stage name this time. The family are all close on This Side.
Junko is more relaxed and it is only implied that had she some sugery this time.
Tumblr media
I also think she she greatly resembles Tsukikage Chigusa from Glass Mask in Batsu like mentioned in an interview.
Tumblr media
In Ulala‘s case she was born on November 30, 1974. She is 24 close to her 25th birthday since Batsu takes place in autumn 1999.
This is precisely why she is so nervous about her love life, went to Omiai, constantly mentions that she is a Christmas cake soon.
Ulala has an inferiority complex regarding Maya since Maya has a better job, Ulala cooks, cleans, applies make up and chooses outfits for Maya (in mythology Callisto is Artemis‘ servant) and since Maya who is 23 doesn‘t worry about marriage etc. at all.
Tumblr media
Maya‘s boss Mizuno is introduced as 30-something and still not married.
Even with her who is depicted as grumpy in the beginning she later on becomes milder and talks more about her former dreams etc.
