Mistyping on The Enneagram
Introduction
The purpose of this post is to understand what are mistyping and how they happen. I’ll explain some of the patterns ive noticed when it comes to some of the mistypings as well as some of examples ive I personally disagree with. Please dont take any of this as a personal insult if any of these examples I give are things you've done in the past or the typings I disagree with are your own.
Case #1 Bad Media Literacy
Often one of the biggest mistake I see when it comes to typing characters enneagram its the interpretation of the characters motive and character arc being incorrect and often based on nothing. The claims you'll mostly see is flattening of the character and often they'll just take one line of dialogue or small piece of the character and typed them based on that. Rather than looking at the character overall. Even if the characters motives and desire are bluntly on display they'll usually ignore these in favor of their misunderstanding of the text.
Tumblr media
Ex- Maxine Minx (3w4 so/sx) being typed as 2w3 sx/so
-Maxine Minx is a character whose desires are screamed to you by the narrative (literally). Maxine craves stardom and status; she yells at Pearl that she won't have the life she doesnt deserve because she is a Star. Her  sense of self importance and entitlement are clear pointers to soc 3. So I find quite shocking/horrifyng seeing people type her as a sx 2. Let's start with the fact that Maxine’s core desire being in creation of a unique bond with ONE individual in which she ignores her own needs to please the subject is one of the most unhinged takes ive ever seen because there is absolutely no evidence of this in the text. Second Maxine being a Super Ego+Positive type is just not true there isn't any evidence of that in the text. It's just a mess of a typing based on bad media literacy and even worst understanding of subtypes.
Case #2 Misunderstanding of Subtypes
This is one of the most unlikely cases I see most people have a decent understanding of subtypes. However this still sometimes happens in which people usually take the definition of the subtype and barely explain it. Sometimes they dont understand what each instinctual variants desire is.
Social-The desire to find a place in which they belong. Will have a belief that they have a big role in this world.
Self-Preservation-Looks for the needs of the self and those around them.
Sexual- They look for connections and to influcence others. Can be romantic or not.
Tumblr media
Ex-Daenerys Targaryen (2w1 so/sp) typed as 1w2 sx/so
Dani being typed as an sx1 isnt as bad as some of the other typings I'll cover here but it still shows a bit of confusion. The sx1 looks to perfect others through sharpening them morally. While the soc 2 looks to help others for the greater good. Both of these are super ego types which I why they might be confusing and have some similarities.
#3 Detachment between subtype and Type Structure
This is the most common mistake ive seen people make when it comes to typing enneagram. They usually detach the subtype from the type structure and stick to the definition of the subtitle without taking any parts of the type it self. The focus on the subtype makes it so the core desire of the enneagram type itself is replaced rather than complement it. The core desire of the enneatype will and should always come first when it comes to typing. This has led to allot of mistyping in which they ignore crucial parts of the enneagram and character/person they are typing.
Tumblr media
Asuka Langley (3w4 so/sx) typed as 2w3 sx/so or 4w3 sx/so
Both of these typings cause me a headache so ill cover both
4w3 sx/so- sx 4 Asuka is one of the worst typing ive seen. They hyper focus on the flimsy definition and the poor understanding of Asuka’s character makes this typing a mess. To believe that Asuka craves for “depth and authenticity” is one of the most insane understanding of her character. And when checking at the triads it becomes even more evident that this typing is holding for its dear life on the misunderstanding from her character. To believe that Asuka is a withdrawn type is one hell of an interpretation. When it comes to attachment style Asuka being a frustration types makes no sense either. The E4 believes itself to be “too deep and profound” for others which is why they find themselves frustrated believing that others aren't as profound as they are. Also having any form of self hate ISNT a sign of enneagram 4.
2w3 sx/so- This typing I see a bit less but its still pretty common. This typing probably comes when people hyper fixation on Kaji. And tbh thats kinda of bad since that is a minor plot beat when it comes to her character. And when you look at E2 as a whole Asuka just doesnt fit there anywhere...The sx ignores the need of self to please ONE individual who they believe can return the love they need. And Asuka doesnt ever ignore her own needs at all. Also Asuka being a super ego type...no. The super ego types believe they are doing righteous acts and believe themselves to be morally superior. And how does this apply to Asuka? well it doesnt.
Case #4 “May look like X type”
Following the same topic from the last case they will usually focus on the small part in the final description of the subtype in which they point out some similarities with others. However it is important to note that they are still the same type. The Enneagram core desire and needs doesnt change because they may look like X type. And this seems to be very rampant as of recently.
Tumblr media
Anakin Skywalker (8w7 sx/so) typed as 4w3 sx/so- This typing makes is as bad as the previous character. The current fixation on the may look like E8 in the description of sx E4 has made allot of different charcaters and people be mistyped based on that single line. Anakin never desire authenticity nor depth. He makes it very clear in both The Clone Wars show and Attack of The Clones that he craved power In order to protect those he loved. Saddest part is he quite literally tells us this in attack of the clones...
Lack of Knowledge of General Type structure and Ignoring Triads
The type structure of each type is complex and detailed however it is key to understand its importance when it comes to typing and understanding the enneagram. Naranjos work on the enneagram is my preferred source when it comes to general type structure I highly suggest you find pdfs or sometimes people of personality coffee leave the type descriptions of naranjo in there. Understanding the core desire of the enneagram and the lines inside is something ive noticed people have a hard time understanding and not taking into consideration when it comes to typing.  Triads is also a very good and important tool to understanding how the types work and it helped me allot to distinguish them. Especially when it comes to object relations.
Tumblr media
Ex- Cassie Howard (9w1 sx/so or 2w1 sp/sx) being type 3w2 sx/so
So im not sure on Cassies enneagram just yet im between the options listed above however Cassie being typed as a sx 3 makes no sense at all. Cassie being a competency+assertive types makes very little sense to me. Especially since the sx 3 looks for success in the interpersonal sense they dont really crave the “love” that comes from it just the image of filling the role in someones life. While I think the sx 9 makes more sense since her being an attachment type makes the most sense to but also I could see sp 2 tho. I don’t see the assertiveness that the sx 2 has.

Misconceptions About Type 1
Type 1 is likely one of the more uncommon types within the enneagram system.  We often joke of the overtypings of 5s and 4s and proceed to forget that type 1 is also strongly overtyped.  The fact is that few if any enneagram authors were of the type 1 personality type, therefore much of what is written about the type is lacking this first person experience associated with the type.  This becomes very obvious in descriptions of 1 which almost entirely ignore 1s connection to the body triad and, at times, portray the type as if it were of the head triad.  When learning the enneagram, it becomes especially important to understand this difficulty and begin to reconceptualize our understanding of type 1 in particular.
1) Type one is "insert head type description here": Many descriptions portray 1 almost as though it were a head type rather than a gut type, which leads to a lot of 6s and probably even 5s mistyping as such. While 1s can be cautious, worrisome, cerebral and even theoretical/thoughtful, the core of the gut center revolves around instinct and body orientation.  Anger and frustration for the 1 is often felt intensely and in the body sense.  One of the best self descriptions I’ve heard from a 1 about this experience was the comparison of the self to a tuning fork, with “wrong” being identified as a dissonance between the self and reality.  While 1s sense of ideality as well as their sense of right/correct or wrong/incorrect can be intensely logical, have solid reasoning, and be thought through in great detail, the 1s sense of ideality does not stem from the mind, but from the body and that either intuitive or sensational sense of ideality and non-ideality.  This type is most often incredibly decisive and trusting of it's sense of directionality unlike the head types who will bolster their sense of judgement through impulse, intense research, external affirmation, or other means because the core of type 1 is not a distrust of internal guidance. The type literally only has possibility for positive outlook wings as well as a strong line to 7, a positive outlook type.  This manifests as this incredible sense of self trust in their own ideas and ability to assert judgement and provides a driving force for action and movement since, despite cynisism or pessimism, there is often assumption that ideality is something that can be reached for or even obtained.  This is the strongest distinguishing factor between 1 and other types consistently mistyped as 1.
It should be clarified further that “body sense” does not imply that all 1s need to be “sensing” types in the mbti sense or are remotely connected to their body in the physical or traditional sense.  Ideality can be abstracted in the intuitive sense, body sensations can be entirely filtered through an abstract lens in the sense that a 1 may not be able to describe it as it exists physically, etc.  The distinction must be made that the gut triad in general comes with this arrogant “I just know” sort of mentality that distinguishes it from the heart and head triads.
2) Type one represses anger and is often inclined to come across as composed: It is not uncommon for 1s style of anger to be misinterpreted as repressed, especially considering how uncommon this type actually is.  Textually, it can be difficult to find a word that is distinctly fitting for their style of anger. While 1 often prioritizes objective and clear thought, this types vice is still wrath. Perhaps this anger and rage may be internally justified as something that the 1 does not consider rage (ie. nitpicking, organizing, criticism, an explanation etc) or the 1 may even truly believe they are as cool headed and emotionally detached as many suspect themselves to be, however the 1's wrath is externally oriented and palpable. Wrath exclusively directed at the self, but not caught by others or a type that only manifests as being internally frustrated or critical of others alongside little to no external expression is a 9 thing. Repressing anger to maintain a clearheaded, objective stance is also more of a 9, 6, or even 3 trait rather than a trait that is primarily 1. 1 type anger is controlled, directional, and centered (rather than diffused and internally brewed as in the 9 or ranged, comfortably expressed, and impact focused as in the 8). This even applies to 1w9, who's sense of wrath may be oriented towards reducing discomfort or takes on the justification as being peace/balance seeking but is not as quiet or remotely hidden as some often expect it to be.
 3) Type 1 is rigid and Rule Abiding: They are, but to their own sense of structure, not necessarily external structures. 1 has a strong vision of how the world should be and what is lacking. The archetype of the perfect student who enforces the rules or the person dedicated to a strong moral system or "the goody two shoes" is 90% of the time a 3 or 6 at their core because both of these stances are strongly tied to pre-established systems and appeal to the attachment orientation. 1 at it's core is frustration and dissatisfaction. 1 isn't necessarily breaking rules and can have moral stances that connect to culture and common standards, but there is a strong connection to the body and impulse sense of anger and frustration rather than the more traditional focus on established systems and rules.  1 is far more often the generator of rules and standards rather than the follower of them.
4) The Core Fear of 1 is Being a Bad Person: While this is not necessarily incorrect, the way this is framed does not provide the necessary context that, once again, this is not really expectation based and that “bad” is not necessarily relating to morality.  You can have traditionally “evil” 1s who embrace the concept of being absolutely awful or, more commonly, are unaware of the effects of their behavior on others or hypocrisy because, once again, all of this self directed and critical behavior is a felt sense.  1 moves in the direction of it’s compass, that compass does not have to be remotely moral in the traditional sense.

hi, i've been having some issues with Fi vs Fe, especially when I think of Aang in ATLA. I know he is typed as ENFP including by you. and i can understand the Ne dom view but the Fi is so confusing. I thought Fi was internal moral/values and doing what someone thinks is right according to themselves but in the show Aang kept saying stuff like 'the monks taught me revenge isnt good' etc. it always seems like his morals come from others in this way and not from himself? how does it work?
This confusion is common for newbies. It sounds like you're reciting a simplistic and stereotypical description of Fi that doesn't tell you anything about the many possible ways Fi develops in real people or how it actually operates in response to real world situations. There are several problems to address:
1) Applying imprecise and/or incorrect definitions: Fi is basically using your subjective feelings to make value judgments. That's all. It doesn't determine exactly what your moral beliefs will be or whether your moral belief system is valid. To understand how people come to adopt and justify their moral beliefs, you have to introduce the concept of moral development. Moral development and personality development are separate, though they have a complicated relationship.
In short, you're conflating cognitive functions and moral development because you haven't really understood what cognitive functions are and how to define them properly.
2) Not distinguishing well between cognition and behavior: How old is Aang? Physically and mentally, he's a preteen (10-12). Preteens do not have a well-developed auxiliary function, nor would they be very far along in their ego and moral development. He hasn't had the time and life experience required to develop a sophisticated awareness and nuanced understanding of his feeling life. Thus, with his "primitive" Fi, he only knows when things don't feel right, at best.
On top of immature Fi, a preteen isn't capable of refined moral reasoning, either. He doesn't yet possess the necessary intellectual tools for articulating his moral judgments and decisions. Thus, when pressed, what else can he do but call up some words from his mentors and teachers, as all children do at that stage of moral development? He's picking and choosing their moral arguments as necessary to help explain and justify his own strong but fledgling moral instincts.
Additionally, remember that people fall into inferior grip when they have too much difficulty coping with stress, and he was pretty much under constant pressure to carry out his mission efficiently. He's not repeating what authority figures taught him because he likes to and he takes personal pride in possessing authoritative knowledge (high Si). Rather, he's only doing it during times of moral confusion when he sees no other method of grounding himself (compensatory Si).
Grasping for scraps of old knowledge and/or remnants of one's old self when feeling lost is a sign of inferior Si and it happens when Ne doms are under stress. They easily get tangled up in trying to reconcile the disconnects between past, present, and future. Don't forget that his case is quite extreme because there is a gap of over a hundred years in his knowledge of the world.
In short, you're only looking at what he does (behavior), but you haven't understood WHY he's doing it (cognition). This is a common pitfall in type assessment. You need to understand The Why, otherwise, you run the risk of taking behavior at face value and then getting misled by crude stereotypes.
3) Not accounting for the whole functional stack: The reason he was frozen (in time) for so long was mainly because he was running from his responsibilities. If I recall correctly, this was a recurring theme and related to the developmental challenge he had to meet in order to grow and mature as a character.
Resisting duties and responsibilities aligns perfectly with the ENFP tendency to take dominant Ne to extremes and resist the call to develop auxiliary Fi in adolescence, eventually leading to Te loop and Si grip issues. Other functional stacks wouldn't fit as well. For example, if he was ESFJ, he would be taking Fe to extremes and have difficulty developing Si, eventually leading to Ne loop and Ti grip issues. Is there any evidence to support this reading? Not that I remember.
All of the functions of the stack have to fit properly. Are you using the evidence to discover the right stack, or are you trying to twist and force the evidence to fit the stack you want? Many people prefer to start with a hypothesis and then look for confirming evidence. The problem with this approach is that it tends to overlook better possibilities as well as important counter-evidence. My method of type assessment is more neutral in giving fair consideration to all 16 types at the start, then gradually narrowing it down through examining counter-evidence (see the Type Spotting Guide).
In short, you're trying to isolate and identify a particular function without taking into consideration its exact stack position, how it relates to the other functions in the stack, and how its expression is influenced by individual developmental factors.

Hey, it's been a couple of years since I've last been on tumblr and been in the MBTI sphere. It's nice to see you still active! Last I saw, your description said 8w9. I was wondering what sparked the decision/realization that you're a 9w8 instead. If there's already a post about this, I'll gladly read it, but I wasn't able to find it. Was it slow and gradual & always a consideration, or was there one thing that really made you rethink? Thanks!
I've wrote a short post about it before but it's already a few years old already and buried beneath other crap i guess. I can't recapitulate the exact moment of realization. But in hindsight there were a few misconceptions that lead to the mistyping in the first place and lifting these while simultaneously becoming more honest about myself then lead to "what if i'm 9 after all??" pondering first and then "oh shit i -am- a 9" second. (so yeah more gradual and not one big eureka-moment)
underestimating 9s' and 1s' anger. there are certain themes that somehow only get attributed to one type in a triad even though they are transparent in the other two types as well. for example only 3s being called out of vanity, but missing out on the super obvious vanity of 2s and 4s. or only 6s being seen as paranoid nervous wracks while 5s and 7s are actually equally paranoid. likewise only 8s get the attribute of "the angry type" when 1s and 9s are actually on the same level.
being more aware about lesser influences; the wing being more obvious to yourself than the core. similar to how we are usually more aware of our tert and inf functions because they are still "newer" to us and we haven't become so accustomed and blind to them yet.
9s being about "harmony and avoiding conflict". the majority of 9 descriptions have a soc Fe spin to them and just recently I've been told that there are still plenty people out there who think IxFPs can't be 9s because Fi is too selfish to be a 9?? like, where is that idea coming from? 9s got to be the misunderstood type next to 2s because many people fail to see obvious selfishness in accommodating behaviour. (i think i made several posts going in detail about that topic)
making excuses for (dis)integration lines not fitting. really when it comes to that topic i should have used occam's razor but instead i was needlessly overcomplicating things. i should have realized sooner that i go into 6-mode during stress is not because "well i'm a Si-dom and Si + inf Ne mimics 6-stereotypes :)"
delusional idolization. a bit like "oh wow 9s are great, I love 9s, there is no possible way I could be as cool as one ;)". not much to say about that lol.
most of these are beginner mistakes and if you look back like 95% of people on typology tumblr made them. from all the "8s" you had back then only Sarah survived as the one true 8w7 (although she got her instinct wrong and is actually a sx/so and not a sx/sp), everyone else turned out to be either a 1, 3 or 9.

What do you think is the worst MBTI mistype on personality database and why do you think people chose the incorrect type? I would ask about socionics but a lot of ppl on pdb believe socionics and mbti are the same thing so there’d be too many mistypes to count😭-IEE anon
Oh mbti is a hard one, there’s so many garbage typings on PBD lol. I think the worst I’ve seen is probably Revel from “Platinum End” (it was an anime that came out a couple of seasons ago if you’re not familiar). People were typing him as an ENTP 1w2 and like… I’m not entirely certain what his type was but he is far closer to a Si dom than that hahah. Also any ISTJ 9 that is mistyped as an INFJ, as there are lots of them for reasons I don’t understand.
An honorable mention goes to the main character of a webtoon I read, whomst typed her main character, who is most likely an ISTP 6w5 sp/sx, an INFP. My assumption is this one is that how she expected the character to be changed over the process of generating the story.

Tubbo: Dude, I'll tell you what- it'd be a pain in the ass to drain an Ocean Monument these days.
Fit: Oh, yeah.
Tubbo: Maybe that could be my project when I unlock Create, maybe I try to drain an Ocean Monument?
Fit: Yeah, once was enough for me!
Tubbo: What, you done that sht before?
Fit: Yeah, on 2B2T of all places!
Tubbo: I feel like you've done everything on 2B2T.
Fit: Well, I haven't done- I haven't been in a homosexual relationship on 2B2T, so... I haven't done everything.
Tubbo: Hmm. That is... Hmm. I guess valid?

Eddie lowkey outing himself by accident but Robin’s the only one that’s even certain that’s what’s happening
Eddie’s finally graduated and he’s having a celebratory bonfire with the Hellfire Club and Steve and Nancy and Robin at it. They’re out by Skull Rock so that they won’t get shit or noise complaints from other people in the trailer park. They’ve already ceremonially burned 6 years worth of Eddie’s notes and homework and failed tests by the time Eddie goes off on his own
Which later, he’ll realize wasn’t a great choice. But it’s supposed to be safe in Hawkins with all the gates closed now and in the moment, he just knows that his bladder has caught up to all the drinking and he really needs to take a leak. And okay, maybe he goes a little further away from everyone than is strictly necessary, but he has a shy bladder
And it’s fine at first. He takes a piss and zips his pants back up and goes to head back to where everyone else is but then he gets cut off by the latest kind of demo-monster to be on the loose in Hawkins and he has nothing on him but his wallet, his lighter, and a pack of cigarettes so he is certain that he’s really dead meat this time
He stumbles backwards in his rush to get away from the demo-thing and ends up falling over a broken branch and landing on his ass. The things still moving closer and they’re not supposed to like fire, so he pulls his lighter out and holds the pathetic little flame at arm’s length and yells at it to keep back as if that’s going to do anything. He shouts at it as loud as he can, but he’s the one that brought the boombox and set the volume at the highest so he’s not holding out a lot of hope about being heard and he doesn’t know that it would really help if any of them heard him anyway. So mostly he just thinks he’s dragging out his own death by making the thing come after him slightly more hesitantly because of the fire
But Steve notices Eddie sneak off on his own and it hasn’t been that long, but he thought he’d be back by now, so he’s already contemplating going to check that he’s fine when he hears something off in the direction Eddie went over the shitty music
And clearly Nancy heard it too because she’s already rushing off in that direction and while Robin and the kids rush after her to see what’s going on and Eddie’s out of the loop friends look at each other confused about what’s going on, Steve grabs a big ass stick off the ground and pours the last of his drink over the end and dunks it in the fire and then grabs a big ass bottle of vodka for good measure because even though he couldn’t totally hear what Eddie called out and even though this might just be Eddie up to his usual dramatics on the way back, Steve knows there’s a very real chance that it’s not and that once again the nightmare with the Upside Down isn’t really over like they thought it was and there’s no way he’s risking rushing in as weaponless as everyone else and putting them all in danger. He’ll be the weird guy that chased Eddie with a flaming tree branch to his Hellfire friends if he has to be because he’ll take that over risking anything happening to anyone there
Eddie’s lying on his back on the ground with the full body weight of the demo-thing on him and he’s got his eyes clenched shut and he’s holding on tight to his lighter with his hands up with to protect his face as if that’s going to do anything to stop this thing from ripping him to shreds, but then suddenly there’s a squelching thwack and then an awful ear-splitting screeching and there’s nothing holding Eddie down anymore. He opens his eyes and sees Steve beating the thing with a flaming tree branch and Nancy grabbing an equally large not flaming stick to join in while everyone else rushes over to check that Eddie’s okay. And then Steve warns Nancy to back up and throws the vodka bottle at the demo-thing and lights it fully on fire
It takes a bit for it to burn and Eddie to remember how to stand back up, but by the time he does, Eddie’s adrenaline is still running wild and he’s floating on the natural high that comes with narrowly escaping death. He tells the kids he’s fine and gets up and then turns to Steve and starts heading toward him while he laughs and gushes, That was incredible. I was sure I was sure I was a goner and then there you were just casually pulling off the most badass move I’ve ever seen out of anyone. Seriously dude. That was awesome. I swear I could kiss you right now.” Which he emphasizes by grabbing Steve’s face in both hands and then planting a quick dramatic kiss on him and he only really realizes what he’s done in front of everyone after he’s already let go of his face so he quickly rushes to add, “Seriously, I could kiss all of you right now” but then nope, that’s not a good cover either and he realizes as soon as the words are out of his mouth, so he quickly adds, “I mean not any of you kids because that’d be weird, but” and thankfully Robin chimes in with “I’m good without” and Nancy quickly adds that she is too so Eddie doesn’t have to start kissing all of his friends near his age just to try to cover for the whole heat of the moment kissing Steve before thinking it through thing. And Steve hasn’t hit him, so that’s a good sign that he might get out of this with people just assuming this is another one of his eccentricities and nothing serious
The kids and Nancy just assume that the kiss was just an extension of his dramatics and that he thought it would be funny. Robin is onto Eddie, but not about to say anything about it. Steve’s too busy with his internal huh, okay… apparently I like that to even start considering Eddie’s motives until long after the kiss has actually happened

Misconceptions About Type 9
This ended up being relatively well received elsewhere, so I figured this would be the first post in my pseudo-blog revival.
The way 9 has been understood throughout the varying iterations of the enneagram has heavily developed as we’ve come into into the modern enneagram system (which I assure you is not just Riso Hudson or Enneagram institute). Naranjo made his assessments, enneagram institute made theirs, and while they each got part of the picture the whole is missing in both.  Here I’ll address common misunderstandings about type 9, why they are made, and what aspects of the theory are being misinterpreted.  As a warning I'm not shitting on 9 or Naranjo. Some of my examples are fairly negative because those are just what I happened to think of as an example and of course some of them kind of point out that the one of many enneagram books that Naranjo wrote that people focus on exclusively has a very limited description of type 9.
1) 9 is an exclusively oriented on the real and tangible and avoids the inner world: Many tend to misinterpret 9 as a thoughtless and exclusively sensory sort of type for some reason while failing to acknowledge the subjectivity that is someone's sense of comfort in addition to confusing what the inner world truly is and contains. Many would consider chronic daydreaming or story making, for example, a trait of someone who has a deep inner world because it is primarily inwardly focused. This, however, actually pairs very well with the 9 tendency towards narcotization. Living in a fantasy world certainly narcoticizes self in the same way that indulging in physical comforts might for those so inclined, as it separates a person from the more unpleasant or draining aspects of reality as well as the more unpleasant aspects of the inner/true reality such as the thoughts you might be left with if not actively abstracting or concocting story-lines or scenarios to capture attention instead. Habitual study and consuming the self with constant analytics, abstractions, or generating a mind numbing activity level with work or tasks is also a form of narcotization in this sense because it is used as an escape tactic (rather than as a distancing/control seeking strategy like in type 5, a structure seeking activity as seen in 6, etc).
Hence, by some merits 9s can have a vivid inner world and often you can have very intellectual, intuitive, and thoughtful 9s.  Mental sloth specifically pertains to avoiding the mentally taxing or unpleasant aspects of reality or self. So yes, 9s can very much be "intuitive types" by mbti and jungian standards because narcotization can be an abstraction process. And yes, 9s can be Fi doms, especially when the emotional and ethical focus of Fi lands on focusing on the more palatable sides of self (be they flaws used to disconnect from more powerful and disturbing flaws of the self or positive self traits over shame bringing traits), a sense of morality that generates pleasure or more peace than or for others, etc etc. Yes, I am oversimplifying. Yes, this also applies to sp and so 9.
2) 9s are deeply connected to sensation and the body: Many authors quote 9, being the center of the enneagram, to have the propensity to be the most grounded and bodily of the gut types. In the same sense, many will quote them with one of the highest propensities for disconnection. Consider 6 and 3, who have similar problems with their triad. 3 is incredibly connected to shame and will often reconstruct self to be valuable to whatever goals they are pursuing, yet they will bolster their self image and seek affirmation for their greatness. 6 is deeply connected to thought and anxiety with a near constant level of mental chattering, yet they as a ping ponging type will push back and assert certainty and strong reactions in the counterphobic sense when they know that action is necessary. 9 is no different, at times being overly rooted in the body and sensations but even over connecting to spirituality or self numbing,
 3) 9 is entirely conflict averse, anyone who shows violence or aggression is not a 9.  Anger is entirely repressed: 9 is discomfort averse, not conflict averse. The two often go hand in hand, however, because actually generating conflict is an energy draw/annoying and reveals that indeed a 9 can be bothered. But sometimes, reducing discomfort and avoiding problems like a 9 might is not traditionally conflictless. Having a hissy fit because someone is disrupting the tone of a group conversation and passive aggressively pushing them to stop that is conflicting. Getting even physically aggressive when someone challenges your way of life or the comfort that you and those dear to you have because changing that way of life would ruin your sense of comfort and the habitual patterns you've built and attached to in your life is incredibly aggressive and conflicting. Refusing to share opinions irl and seeming sweet and simple but actively being aggressively opinionated, contradictory, and vocal online is also a style of aggression that avoids taking responsibility. All of these, however, are also very aligned with the core traits of 9 which is sloth and comfort/simplicity seeking and are only small examples of 9 style aggression.
In a similar light, 9s can be very very aware of their anger despite 9 at it’s core seeking to be and seem impermeable and unaffected by most things (this does not necessarily mean it is uncommon of 9s to not be aware of their anger however).  Expression and an outwards reveal of that anger or that they are, in fact bothered, is where the difficulty truly lies.  There are many 9s who feel internally filled with turmoil and wrath and may even think that this is something that they radiate, however the gut influence of 9 however often dulls this expression without them knowing this is the case.
4) 9, like the other positive outlook types, are entirely averse to morose and dark subject matter: Again, there is a lack of understanding on the subjectivity of comfort (and also a lack of understanding of what positive outlook means; as a hint, it is not optimism by necessity).  People who grew up in chaos will seek chaos because it’s comfortable, people who grew up in traditionally comforting environments will seek comfort because it is comfortable.  What is challenging or disturbing to some, in the same sense, is really not something that remotely moves others.  Dark and morose subject matter frankly does not make a lot of people uncomfortable.  Consider Junji Ito, a person near constantly quoted to be a 9 core and how “disturbing” people find his art to be as a mere example of this.  It is not uncommon for 9 to indulge very heavily into dark and upsetting subject matter even as a means to avoid or distract from their own turmoil or if it is something that they find to be engaging or has an engaging effect on them.

Hello there! I've been making my first attempts at typing through the cognitive functions, but I've been noticing that I seem prone to interpret Fe paired with Si as Fi, or vice versa with Fi-Se seeming like Fe to me. I'm an INFP myself, and I was wondering how this might affect my typing bias? Can the personal experiences embedded in Si combined with the service-oriented Fe appear to be Fi? Can Fe appear to be Fi when the person is drawing from personal experiences to project onto others to imagine what they must be feeling?
I don't think you're asking the right questions. I need to know what exact criteria you are using to identify each function. Are you able to list them? Do the criteria stop at surface-level observable behaviors, or are they designed to lead you to deeper knowledge of a person's cognitive patterns? Do you have a system? Unless you detail your type assessment process to me, there's no way for me to pinpoint and correct the flaws in the process.
Repeated use of the word "appear" indicates that you are probably too focused on appearances. Since appearances can be deceiving, you have to be able to reach beyond them, i.e., look inside the book rather than judging by its cover.
For instance, anyone of any type can be service-oriented. Some of the most service-oriented people I know are ESTJs. "Service-oriented" is just a simple and factual characteristic/trait. By itself, it doesn't tell you much about personality type. You won't get very far until you probe much deeper into things like: WHY exactly is the person service-oriented, how did they come to develop this trait, and what purpose does this trait serve in their psychology? Have you gone that deep?
1) Functions behave differently in different stack positions due to serving different psychological purposes, so can you tell which stack position a function is in (through knowledge of type dynamics)? Are you able to discern what the function is being used for psychologically? For example, when you're looking for Fe in ISFJs, are you looking specifically for how auxiliary Fe serves dominant Si, or are you just using generic/vague/stereotypical dominant Fe characteristics which could easily lead you astray?
2) It's necessary to collect sufficient evidence of all four cognitive processes (SNTF). For example, functions operate in oppositional pairs, so the high Fi or Fe mix-up could be remedied by making sure that there is also sufficiently strong evidence of low Te or Ti.
Generally speaking, no matter what type you are, when observing and evaluating other people, projection is always something to be taken into consideration, especially if you are at low levels of ego development. Projection is the unconscious attribution/application of one's own ego contents onto others. In other words, when you look at others, most of what you "see" is just a projected image of yourself, as opposed to the reality of who they are.
FPs are quite prone to projection because Fi automatically seeks points of personal relatability, which can seriously interfere with objectivity. One way to remedy this problem is to take yourself out of the equation as much as you can by understanding how other types think/feel very differently than you (i.e. try to put aside Fi+Si's search for similarity by doing the opposite). For example, if an INFP and an ISFJ are both service-oriented, what makes this trait different for them when compared to you? The behavior looks roughly the same on the surface, but how is the cognition different underneath the surface?
As a newbie with limited knowledge, you might not be able to identify cognitive differences through observation only. A big part of learning about the cognitive differences between the types comes from experience, specifically, talking to people and taking more time to understand the details of how they think differently. My Function Theory Guide already outlines the theoretical principles and it's up to you to look for the concrete examples in people.

The other day a friend showed me a Garfield pic. My brain malfunctioned and called it "Garlic the Frog". Can you draw a picture of Garlic the Frog, however he looks to you? Thank you :)

no offense but if you knew the majority of your followers were radfem or rad aligned feminists and knew how they would react to pro-life christian feminism put on their dashes from someone unexpected, i would almost wager you purposefully wanted to stir up drama on here. bc at that point why don't you delete your blog and create one unaffiliated with the feminism you no longer agree with. weird af to me.
