Wait, so Wukong is Sun’s first name? Or is the Strawbana kid going by an entirely different surname?
Wukong is Sun's first name! The reason everyone, including himself, calls him Sun?
Because Sun thinks it's his first name. Vacuo doesn't run on the naming styles of Mistral, where Sun's biological parents come from. Sun is their clain name, but when he was adopted by Eliana, who doesn't follow that and simply saw Sun Wukong on his blanket, she believed Sun was his first name.
Out of world reason? A lot of people, including myself at the beginning, didn't realise that Wukong is actually the first name, not Sun. So I just kept it that way and added the lil funny confusion into the story.
He eventually learns, of course, he just keeps his first name as Sun since it's the name he's grown used to being called.

📂 i crave moar, these are too good c;
send 📂 for a random useless extravagantly worldbuildy headcanon
Oscar’s adoptive aunt, Henrietta Pine, is a leporine faunus—her primary trait is her rabbit-like dentition—born and raised in the Palash region of southern Anima. The region is not a part of Mistral, although its western margins do spill into the hinterlands of Kuchinashi and the exact location of the border is a matter of ongoing dispute.
Despite being some of the most fertile country in Anima, the Palash region has not been annexed by any larger neighboring state since late antiquity; the danger posed by Mount Atrox, one of the largest and most active volcanoes in the world, and the grimm-infested jungles surrounding it, imposes serious operational and logistical problems that make large-scale administration of the region prohibitively difficult.
Most of the region’s population lives in a constellation of interdependent free towns and villages, although a significant minority of mainly faunus are pastoral nomads. Henrietta was born into one such nomadic group, orphaned by grimm at the age of ten, and taken in by then-childless farmers afterwards. She now lives in a village called Radicar, near the contested border with Mistral, on the farm she inherited from her adoptive parents.
Henrietta is, by the standards of the region, fairly wealthy—which is to say, she owns a horse: a cobby bay mare named Feray. She runs the farm together with her younger brother, Emre Solsen, his partner Glencoe, and their children, Alon, Lina, and Talha, the youngest of whom is twelve years Oscar’s senior. Although she of course takes to the fields during all-hands-on-deck times of year—plantings and harvest—Henrietta herself is an indifferent farmer and spends most of her days at the Radicarian guardhouse, where she organizes the village’s branch of the regional militia.
She is not a huntress—but she does know how to fight grimm, a necessity for people who live outside the kingdoms.
(Oscar’s assertion that he never had combat training before means something different than it would mean to someone who grew up in one of the kingdoms: the regional militia comprises volunteers between the ages of nineteen and sixty, and Oscar—being fourteen—had never drilled with them before, but he was raised knowing how to fight and defend himself as a matter of course.)
The militia is organized around a system of watchtowers, signal lamps, and horse-drawn trolleys which run on tracks running between every settlement in the region. If one town or village is attacked—whether by grimm or bandits—the combined forces of the entire region can be swiftly mobilized to its defense. Palashian nomads do not directly participate in this system, but most groups have a few riders acting as message-runners and scouts on behalf of the farmers full-time, in exchange for the promise of shelter, supply, and protection should the nomads suffer any calamity.

Who You're Fighting
Oobleck: You know, there's an old joke from the Great War that goes as such. You can identify an unknown force by firing one shot and judging the response.
Oobleck: If the unknowns respond with precise, regimented rifle fire, they are Valian.
Oobleck: If they respond with heavy machinegun fire, they are Mistrali.
Oobleck: If they respond by charging your position, they are Vacuan.
Oobleck: If nothing happens for a few minutes, then your whole position gets leveled by an airstrike, they are Atlesian
Oobleck: But, if they respond by impregnating the entire female line of your family, they are an Arc.
The Class: ...
Jaune: ...I do have a lot of cousins...

“So, Pyrrha, how much has Nora told you about our little private workout sessions here?” Clay asked, trying to avoid being too obvious as he eyed the absolutely gorgeous redhead up and down. The want to just bend her over and breed her right then and there was so intense, but he held back, keeping up the kind and gentle facade a bit longer.
"Only that they're incredibly intense." The gorgeous Mistrali that was publicly known as "The Invincible Girl" answered with the slightest of tilts to her head. "And with how exhausted she is when she returns to our dorm, I can certainly understand and respect the intensity of your workout regimen. And I've also heard that Yang and Ruby have taken to it."

Random RWBY Part Possibly 19???
I’m beyond lost on what part it is. Anyway headcanon and idea time.
Jaune doesn’t know how to function without background noise. As a kid he could always hear someone in his house, and he’s grown used to Nora humming a song or Ren drumming his fingers on a desk, or Oscar tapping his foot.
Whitley has nicknamed Winter his “big sister” and Weiss his “older sister” as a subtle jab at Weiss’ height.
Mercury has Hazel as "physique goal" in his Scroll.
RWBY and JNPR have an official school sanction against them sparring together after what happened during the food fight.
Kali & Ghira have a very strict “if you’re in the kitchen you better be helping” policy that Yang is all too happy to adhere to. Blake is not, Blake is halfway across the house avoiding the kitchen at all costs.
Blake spent too many years in the wilderness and now knows how to cook acorns.
Qrow has friends in Mistral, friends who can forge documents stating he's Oscar and Ruby's legal guardian so the Mistrali PD stop sniffing around them.
After the wound mostly heals Weiss has no issue making the comment that the only good thing about Beacon falling is that Blake's porn collection is also gone.

The Most Important Lesson of Them All
Jaune: Wait! (Holds door) I... I know who you are! I followed your clues!
???: Hh. Good for you. Now get the fuck out of my house.
Jaune: (Following) W-Wait! I'm here because I want-
???: I don't give a damn about your death wish, kid. Get out.
Jaune: But you're Nicholas Schnee. You were the last and greatest knight of Remnant.
Nicholas: Pah! "Greatest." You make me sound so noble. I was bested. Humiliated worse than I ever could have been. That's why I ran away like a child.
Nicholas: A child who'd seen Death herself.
Jaune: I don't care. I've been looking for you for years! Dad wanted you to train me first, but I knew you would be the last. Then I'll be ready. Ready to face the woman who made me.
Nicholas: Back to Salem so soon? ...What's with that look? You think I don't know who you are, Jaune Arc?
Nicholas: I know from the salt on your shoulder which Menagerie port you left from. The color of your sleeves tell me which Mistrali swordsman you learned your swordsmanship from. The green stains on your shoes tell me you trained your body in the art of no-aura combat to improve your aura restoration. The cut of your hair tells me where you learned to paraglide, and the callouses on your hands tell me where you learned to hold your shield. The scars on your knuckles tell me who taught you to punch. And if you're here, it means you've spoken to Klein Sieben, and you actually listened through his entire seven hour tale.
Jaune: But... But how-
Nicholas: (Opens door) See for yourself.
Jaune: (Steps in and sees broken armors, Finds walls lined with combat manuscripts) I... Teach me.
Nicholas: Hh... No. No, I think not. At least, I won't teach you what you came to learn, anyways. Instead, I'll teach you something different. Possibly the most important lesson of them all, m'boy...
Nicholas: I'm going to teach you how to lose.

Okay- Salem throwing in during the Great War especially with Grimm would belatedly justify that card game from Volume 2 because of how it was over control of Remnant besides as an in show ad. Especially with the whole bit of the Nevermore card.
Salem as supporter of revolutionaries fighting for their freedom... One that fits extremely well. Two it puts additional layers to Cinder approaching the White Fang and also just ... Cinder being taken in.
I also would find such a reveal in show to likely be extremely hilarious as the implications hit the audience and cast.
my god i wrote that entire fucking post without remembering the great war Board Game existed
you’re right though, it would be a sly piece of foreshadowing if that’s the intention, esp bc the nevermore bit is between ruby (playing atlas) and yang (playing mistral) and a dice roll which of their forces it attacks.
in terms of the worldbuilding that game has always kind of interested me for what it says about how grimm are viewed in military contexts by the general public; qrow in WOR suggests that grimm on the battlefield was an automatic ceasefire until they were driven off again, but also that “grimm came in droves” while ozma laid waste to his enemies with the sword. and then there’s this grimm card in a war game where the mechanic is “flip a coin to see whose soldiers get mauled”—implying that opportunistic “let the grimm attack your enemies” tactics are not unheard of.
and… then. there’s arrowfell. the grimm lures the antagonists use were developed by the atlesian military, and… the only practical use case for a device that summons swarms of grimm is to weaponize grimm against human targets, ideally a safe distance away from your own forces. like, they’re grimm bombs. and these were developed post-war! in a time of peace! the great powers during the tense period before the great war must have been thinking about how to point the grimm at their enemies, too.
but unless you’re salem, or have salem on your side, weaponizing the grimm will always be a double-edged sword—as yang says, that’s just a risk you have to be willing to take.
anyway yeah if i’m right, the reveal would be so punchy. and i do for sure think were due for some sort of revelation about the great war—it’s been set up and referenced over and over, and they made a deliberate choice to convey this information through a heavily biased perspective, and the great war ended in vacuo, and everything the narrative is building up to the last stand in vacuo. something about history coming due, and the truth coming out.
it’s also be a neat counterpoint to the Team Oz narrative, which is very black-and-white (mantle and mistral were the bad guys, vale and vacuo were the good guys, don’t ask too many questions about valean expansion into the likeliest origin point for those desperate crazy founders of mantle or vale’s involvement in the complete destruction of its next-door neighbor centuries ago or the part where ozma magic nuked everyone so hard that allies and enemies alike bent the knee.) whereas the truth seems to be more complicated with vale also having imperial ambitions prior to ozma assuming the throne, and then at best prioritizing the status quo.
an interesting possibility that i think about sometimes is that ozma may have been the one to withdraw vale from vacuo; less out of anti-imperialist principle than because the vacuan people were increasingly unhappy with valean rule and he recognized that the only way to avoid a war for independence in the long term would be to give vacuo independence first. and then mistral swooped in like a vulture because ozma neglected to do anything but formally recognize vacuan sovereignty, rather than make reparations and provide support needed to allow vacuo to emerge from centuries of valean occupation as a functional country—the same conflict-avoidant, shortsighted approach on display in his choice to “share the land” with mistrali colonists in eastern vale.

since the color naming rule has an in-universe reasoning, what i really need to see is even just one family who absolutely refuses to play along. like they're one of those upper crust mistralis who weren't banned from it in the first place and are like "not my problem lol"
like. there's no way that everyone on the planet chose to play along; those who were suppressed from it? more likely, perhaps. those who weren't? might still have decent amount who followed along to oppose the suppression, but there would definitely also be those who didn't see it as their problem and carried on as they used to.

How's Pyrrha feel about Jaune?
This happened a little after the Jessica thing. Pyrrha was a bit hesitant around Jaune, he knew her name and all. So she doubted he didn't know who she was. But... then something weird happened.
"Okay, yes, thank you. I'll be there soon." Pyrrha was not having a good day. She had yet to eat that day and though she wasn't sure how she felt about him, she could easily say that Jaune's cooking was delicious. It reminded her of home... and yet she had to skip on that! She was assigned a new appointment and she just... "Why can't I say no?"
"It's not that hard right?"
"Ah!" She nearly jumped out of her skin as Jaune, holding a bowl of something, seemed to materialize behind her. "Oh! Uhm, I'm sorry I didn't see you there."
She noted the way he looked at her, quirking his brow as if she had said something strange. "Pyrrha, you don't need to apologize, I'm the one who snuck up on you... and I"m sorry I overheard your conversation. But... you don'tt have to say yes. You know that, right?"
She shook her head, "No... I just... I have to make this deal, my manager wants me to do these things, and I just can't say no because-"
"Manager? Is that a normal thing for huntresses?"
She blinked a few times as she looked at him. "No?" That was an odd question, surely he should know she would have one since she was a young star.
"Then why do you have one?" She tried to read him, to see if he was acting this way to get on her good side... but then, nothing. This wasn't the same situation with Weiss, where she opted to try to use her... he just, didn't know who she was.
"Jaune... do you mind me asking. But when we met, you knew my name."
"Yeah, Ozpin gave me a brief introduction, so I knew all your names."
Her mouth opened and closed like a floundering fish. "So... you didn't know me before that?"
"Nope. Only thing I knew, was that you were cool in those videos he showed, and that you're really prett..." He paused, his face flushing.
Her eyes widened.
":Forget I said that please."
There was a brief pause before she suddenly started to lose it. For the first time in a while she had a good laugh.
"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to say that outloud!"
"No no! It's alright, thank you. It's very kind of you... so you really didn't know me?"
He paused, shook his head, "Nope."
"Huh."
She took a moment... "What's for dinner?"
"OH! Well, I figured you were feeling homesick, and the other girls are out for the day, so I decided to make some Mistrali soup, I got the recipe from my sis Saph in ARgus and well, I figured you'd like it?"
She paused again, then smiled. "You know... I would... let me make a call, I think I can skip a promotion or two."
"Sure! Wait, what promotion?"
Now she couldn't help but laugh again. Maybe Jaune wasn't so bad.

A figure crept into Team RWBYs dorm. The Mistrali exchange student Sable Leone moved right up to Ruby, gently shaking her awake. "Ruby..."
Tumblr media
"MMggghhh... Wha?" Ruby groans, coming back to consciousness after feeling Sable rouse her from her sleep. "S-Sable...? What's wrong...? What time is it...?" As she pulls herself up to sit on her bed, a trail of drool dripping from her mouth.
