An interesting comment on a fic
So, earlier tonight I got this lovely fic on Notorious, one of my Hunger Games WIPs. The very brave individual posted it as a Guest on Ao3, but what I wanna know is... Who is Philoise?
I'm putting the lovely and eloquent comment under a read-more because it's just that awesome.

Reading the reviews on Kate Goldbeck's "You, Again" is disgusting because it makes it crystal clear that people aren't ready for female sexuality.

Or it could simply be that in 10 years, people are going to look at this and think that Johnny Depp got the justice he deserved and this helped male DV victims to come forward. We are forgetting that abuse has no gender. We are forgetting that THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED to Johnny when Amber made her allegations public long before the trials began. We are forgetting that Johnny DID NOT LOSE A DV case in the UK. We are forgetting that professionals from law, psychology, and other behavioral sciences are analyzing this real time, comparing it with their experiences working with countless victims (I am not going to comment on what they’re agreeing on). What you are saying that might happen to Amber is EXACTLY what’s happening to Johnny right now. He also has to relive ugly things about his life. If he is telling the truth, he also has to relive the abuse he claims he suffered. This case is so convoluted, a lot of the evidence goes both ways. If Amber was given a chance to be heard (and was immediately believed without hearing the other side), why can’t we give the same chance to Johnny?
I am trying to be as neutral as I possibly can until this trial is over, and I don’t agree with the mud-slinging of fans from both sides. I agree with you that misogyny should NOT have a place in this world. This post though refuses to be open to the idea that a man can go through the same thing. What does that say about you?

leans into the mic. "saying all men are trash in response to the various ccs getting outed as abusers is the wrong move and will harm male victims of abuse and sa" and "the reason these male ccs were able to abuse people and cover it up for so long is because of rampant misogyny in the content creating space and it's important to listen to the women coming out with their stories right now" are statements that coexist. btw

I get that “you can just not wear makeup, it's okay to not wear makeup” can sometimes be the exact thing that someone needs to hear, or to be reassured about. but some people are really condescending about when and how they pull that out and who they say it to
like, there is a social reality of misogyny that women are punished for not appearing a certain way, with all the more severity as a function of class, racism, transmisogyny, etc.
that punishment can be the difference between employed and unemployed. having food and not having food. being treated as less competent and less worthy as a person not only by men, but also by other women and people of any gender in general
and tbh, it's especially fucked how some transmisogyny-exempt people say this to trans women, particularly toward those of us with facial hair / stubble that stands out very visibly from our skin. like a trans woman wearing makeup is obviously just too dumb, shallow, misogynistic, and femininity-obsessed to know better, so they take it upon themselves to remind her that “you can be a woman without wearing makeup! :)” in the same voice they use to tell a toddler that the mushy peas are good
do you think trans women wearing makeup while going to job interviews or working customer service positions (or even, yes, trying to exist in public life in general) are all just stuck-up assimilationists with Bad Ideas about gender? do you think it's only trans women with pointedly transmisogynistic values about “passing” who would ever wear makeup or dress a certain way to try to be treated less horribly by the world around us?
especially if you're vividly aware of how you yourself are punished for not wearing makeup—how do you not extend that awareness to other women? including other women who would pretty fucking obviously be treated even worse for it than you are? (how seriously have you considered that some women might be treated worse for it than you are? treated worse by someone like you, even?)
“you can just not wear makeup” “you don't need makeup, there's nothing about your face that needs fixing” okay well hiring managers will absolutely discriminate against me for not wearing makeup to job interviews, but thanks for enlightening me I guess

I actually really don't want to hear anything about how 'overcoming misogyny' is a major theme in Avatar: the Last Airbender when "The Fortuneteller" exists and the ultimate thesis of that episode, in the context of the show as a whole, is that if a girl is in unrequited love, it's cringe and kinda pathetic and she should move on cause the boy will never want her; but if a boy is in unrequited love, he just needs to be patient and wait for the girl he wants to come around cause he's a hero and how could she not?
Its secondary thesis is that you need to make your own destiny and not rely on someone else's words to tell you what your life has in store...if you're a BOY; if you're a girl then what the fake psychic told you will actually determine your ENTIRE life even if you are only fourteen years old.
Meng's existence really would have been the final nail in the coffin for Kataang even if the arc of the ship in Book 3 weren't so abhorrent to me personally (sorry but I have higher standards for romantic relationships than 'the girl is completely oblivious to the boy's advances for the entire show, is actively distressed when those advances become more pronounced, and then her feelings are resolved completely off screen between episodes so that the boy can get his prize in the end')--because her relationship with Aang is deliberately paralleled to Aang's relationship with Katara, and yet Meng, the one-off character, learns a lesson which Aang is quite literally told he must learn in the Book 2 finale... but he never ever does.
Aang has an entire season to internalize that lesson and come to terms with it--that maybe she doesn't have feelings for me and that's ok because I still love and care about her and that's enough--but he never even comes close. His possessive attachment to her gets worse, culminates in the EIP kiss, and Katara just capitulates because we're meant to believe that she went through the entire development of her romantic feelings for the love of her life off-screen between the penultimate episode and the four-part finale.
This was misogynistic even in 2008, and the idea that the show truly had anything meaningful to say about sexism/misogyny when uncritical and unchecked misogyny was baked into its very DNA (assuming we're meant to agree with Brychael that Kataang is 'in the DNA of the show) is just laughable to me. When it comes to 'overcoming misogyny' the show doesn't actually say anything more profound than 'girls can fight too!!!!!'
And that wasn't good enough for me then, it certainly isn't good enough for me today.

The Christian audacity to assume that every non-Christian, especially non-believers, are secretly miserable and unfulfilled because they're not Christian is definitely in one of the top ten insulting and degrading things Christians believe about other human beings.

The fact that transmen/mascs get to experience having our oppression ignored and downplayed growing up as girls and then turn around and have our oppression ignored and downplayed during our transition is laughably disgusting. We really never grow out of being told "Shut up, you're supposed to be quiet and look nice".

this flavor of trans guy misogyny where they do rhetorical backflips to explain why them not caring about women is good, actually, and since cis men are also misogynists a lot of the time we should all just stop complaining about it.
