!! GEGE KAIRAI (mirishita casting 01) SPOILER WARNING !!

so from the moment this cover had come out id been wondering if the flowers on it had any meaning

here is what google told me:

the flower itself is lycoris aka the spider lily aka higanbana which is often used to symbolise death. its practically one of the most common metaphors for it.

the red one (konomi, mizuki) means the cycle of death and rebirth.

yellow (iku, momoko) symbolises inner strength, wisdom, love and courage (this part seemed quite suspicious).

and finally white, also held by mizuki, means purity and starting anew.

takane is holding no flower which i thought was due to her role as she's the one performing the ritual.

..............and well it didnt explain much. but now as ive found the translation of the cd dramas (op if you see this im really really thankful to you) it has become a bit clearer

so let me recap the story:

it takes place in a village where its believed that after death souls move to wooden dolls and then leave them to inhabit newborn babies; sometimes it just so happens that two souls get into the same body which is...... not really good esp if one of them is a spirit, not a human soul. there is also kakurou-sama, a patron spirit everyone in the willage worships.

ayako (played by mizuki) and hanako (played by momoko) are sisters who lost their parents some years ago. since then, hanako had become terribly weak and was hospitalised.

after she was released and returned home, ayako and their cousin miho (konomi) noticed some changes within her. the friendly and active girl suddenly turned cold and distant. the villagers were just as strange, paying too much attention to hanako and talking about kakurou-sama nonstop.

soon hanako brought a friend, wakaba (inu), who was said to have been staying with hanako in the hospital and didnt remember a thing due to amnesia. the strange part to wakaba was that her personality was exaclty like the one hanako used to have.

ayako and wakaba quickly grew closer, and the jealousy inside hanako ("wakaba is mine and mine only!") awakened something evil. this evil nearly killed everyone, if not for something else awakening inside ayako and suppressing it.

.........now to the part that actually explains everything: miho and hanako used to have double souls, while ayako and wakaba were dead. ayako lost her life due to a powerful spirit corroding her from the inside which seemed to disappear after her death. a ritual was performed later to transfer one of the souls residing in miho, that brought ayako back to life and saved the latter. (this is heavily implied but not officially stated). turned out the spirit didnt disappear and was revived now as a reaction to the evil.

as for hanako, this evil spirit seemed to be kakurou-sama whose awakening was stimulated by the loss of the girls' parents. to save hanako's life, mikoto (takane) performed a similar ritual, transferring hanako's normal soul to wakaba's body (she died normally some time ago btw). and THATS why hanako has changed and why wakaba seemed so much like hanakos prev self.

this is getting pretty long despite me shortening some parts so ill retell the rest quickly. mikoto performed another ritual that made both magical spirits die. wakaba was sent to the city while ayako's body (unfortunately i didnt get which soul was left inside) was undergoing treatment in the hospital. and miho gave wakaba a wooden doll somehow connected with ayako as a parting gift. thats it.

now lets get back to the flowers:

turned out that matching flowers mean the souls inside the two girls were initially in the same body (ayako and miho, hanako and wakaba). the white one symbolises the spirit inside ayako

ah and also!

- hanako is grasping the flower firmly as this soul gave her the authority to make the villagers follow her orders and shes not willing to let this opportunity go;

- wakaba is hesitant about her past and worried about whats going on;

- miho doesnt know a thing yet gently embraces her life, treasuring it;

- finally, ayako is holding her "normal" soul the way she wont lose it, nevertheless focusing on the spiritual one, ready to let it consume her.

and thats kinda it! the post was much longer than what i had expected but i wanted to retell as many points of the story as possible

How do I get into THE IDOLM@STER?

...is a very frequent question we idolmaster fans get!

I recently got a message from someone asking me if I could make a post answering this question, and I said I would try. I'm very bad at explaining things, but idolmaster is my biggest special interest, and I am always really happy to try to get people into it.

Before we start, I want to remind you that Idolmaster has no localization. All translations are fanmade. Please remember to support translators. I'll leave as many resources as possible. If you have any translators or sites you'd like me to mention, please let me know.

If you're willing to try and get into it, please open the readmore. I wont only be including Cinderella Girls, I'll try to include every branch.

How do I get into THE IDOLMASTER Cinderella Girls?

Alright, I know I said I wouldn't only be including CG, but this is still a deresute gif blog. I know what most of you are here for.

Cinderella Girls is a huge branch. There's 190 idols. I see some people backing out when they realize this, but I don't think that should discourage you! With that many idols, you're guaranteed to find someone for you. And please, just because you think the voiced girls are more worth your time, please check out the unvoiced ones as well.

Alright, but how do you get into it?

There's a lot of Youtube channels that translate different commus from it. From card lines, to memorial commus, to entire events. Simply search "deresute translation" if you'd like. HNKM_days on Twitter also translates most of the events as they come out.

CG's music is great! there's tons of uploads on soundcloud. My soundcloud playlist has about 200-ish songs. You can find a bunch by just searching "idolmaster".

To find more information on a song, search it up on project-imas.

Project-imas is *the* best idolmaster resource I can think of. It's entirely in English, it has every single song, CD, card — anything you can think of. I use it everyday of my life, which might sound sad but I assure you it isn't. Probably.

How do I get into THE IDOLMASTER Million Live?

Sankyuu ML subs on YouTube does a great job at translating mirishita related content! Another personal note I wanna add is that million live has an amazing discography, and full versions of pretty much every song are on Spotify. Even tho the cast is way smaller than Cinderella Girls, there's still a lot to love about the branch. I dont play Mirishita as much as I do some of the other games, but I still consume lots of content from it and it's a lovely branch I definitely recommend you get into. As of writing this post, Mirishita is celebrating it's 6th anniversary! It's a good time to download the game. Remember, you will need a Japanese VPN or Japanese Apple ID to play it. This goes for every imas mobile game.

How do I get into THE IDOLMASTER SideM?

Well, this is where we're gonna have to start getting into the thorny dark side of being an idolmaster fan. SideM is a great branch which I absolutely adore, and all of it's producers are so passionate about it, however.. Bandai Namco has never been kind to it.

This year, it was announced that it's only current running game, THE IDOLM@STER SideM Growing Stars, will be ending it's service. This was extremely sudden, and hard for everyone to handle. This means that there will basically be no way to properly produce the idols. SideM won't fully die, with there being lives and such, but producing the idols is such a big part of this franchise. I don't want to make this post gloomy out of nowhere, I swear. It's just a bit touchy for now.

There's a huuuge translation masterdoc for SideM, if any of the units or characters catch your eye from the project-imas wiki page on SideM, I suggest you search for whatever idols intrigue you most in the doc. As well as the doc, you can search up "#sidemTL" on Twitter for more translations not on the doc. There's so much to love about every unit and idol, I swear it's worth your time! Even tho it's current state might steer you away, I think it's important to still appreciate the branch for what it is. Oh hey, SideM's discography is also on streaming services! Please stream Piece Montee and Secret Ornament.

How do I get into THE IDOLMASTER Shiny Colors?

Here's ones that's been gaining traction! Luckily, it's actually a pretty accessible branch to get into, if you're willing to download the English patch. The gameplay might seem complicated and scary at first, but even that has tons of guides. I think a lot of this post is motivated by my emotions on the franchise, and I'm sorry about that, but I really mean it when I say the writing is incredible.

You can play Shinymas on your web browser here. If you search up "Shiny colors English patch" on google, you can download it using the instructions. If you're still hesitant on playing for whatever reason, you can read episodes recorded in the English patch on YouTube. I'm not exaggerating when I say the writing is amazing.

How do I get into the original idolmaster games? (765AS + Dearly Stars)

If you specifically want to get into the console games, there's English roms and translations of routes on Youtube, as well. Dearly Stars is currently in a very weird state, tho. You see, the 765AS girls are all in Million Live, and there's a lot of consolemas games they appear in. But for Dearly Stars, there's only one game. Which is, well, Dearly Stars. And 2/3 of the Dearly Stars just.. havent gotten content since?

I think that it's still a game you should check out, tho! There's not a single bad song in it, and even tho 3 idols might seem like an underwhelming number, they're all brilliant and very lovable. As with a good chunk of consolemas games, there's Dearly Stars translations up on YouTube! A really dedicated RyoP posted them all and I am eternally grateful to them for it.

Alright, phew. I wrote half of this at 11 am and procrastinated for a few hours then wrote more at midnight. Remember that project-imas is an insanely good resource and I encourage you to tell me if I should add more things onto this post. 100% of this post was made off the top of my head and based off of my own experience with the games. I want to mention that there's also a channel called "アイマスSUBS" that covers all the branches in terms of translations, and they've got a bunch of those. Have fun, producers!

I love S.E.M an insane amount. (a reflection)

“If it weren’t for S.E.M, would I even be here right now?”

Okay, correction: “If I didn’t meet S.E.M again through a random Google search a few years ago, would I even be here right now?”

Let’s turn back the clock for a moment. I got into 2D fictional idols through Love Live! back in mid-2017 with me first watching the School Idol Project anime on a whim. Timeskip to months later in October and I went through Sunshine!! Season 2 when it was airing, and I remembered vaguely hearing things about THE IDOLM@STER back then. I had a loose idea about SideM’s existence through clips from the anime (which was airing on that same season) along with IDOLiSH7 and Tsukipro – both fellow male idol series that I also encountered. Neither did I pay closer attention to these nor was I into male idols though.

Here’s this bit from a previous lovemail from a few years ago: I wasn’t fully open about my interests towards others. I feared that nobody would understand what I enjoy, especially if it isn't as well-known as what a typical person would know. Before becoming an idol fan, I was more into magical girl anime, tokusatsu, and Western animation in general – all of which are niche interests in their own right.

Skip to 2019. By that point, I was already into IM@S by that point, albeit focusing more on 765Pro and Million Live’s activities via Theater Days. In January, I started Shiny Colors and LIVE ON ST@GE! for the first time, and both had uh – let’s just say, “unique” ways of handling non-rhythm game-like mechanics. (I haven't touched the older console games yet.) I was more of a casual fan of the two branches (compared to 765) and I was more focused on my high school life, which hadn’t started crumbling down just yet. I didn’t stay with the two games as much as Mirishita.

My first starter idol in MStage was Ryo, mainly because of his connection with the console games. Touma and Ryo’s connections to 765Pro immediately made them my initial favorite idols in SideM, but three men clad in pink and silver spandex caught my attention: S.E.M. The unit’s concept of a trio of ex-teachers becoming idols to motivate and inspire students to study and follow their dreams struck me. I regretted not starting off with any of the members, so I left my original MStage account, opting to return with a S.E.M starter idol when I gave it a second chance.

I chose Rui as my new starter idol in April 2019, but I didn’t really have a no. 1 favorite idol by then. I read a few of whatever was translated and listened to some of the songs; but I was more focused on Mirishita and acted more casually towards the other branches.

But on a more personal note, I was starting to go through some… mixed feelings in my personal life.

My boyfriend and I broke up after 11 months, had to give up taking part in a club I’ve been involved in for the past 2 years by then, and constantly got annoyed at some teachers’ way of doing things which affected my enjoyment of the subjects I studied for… And on top of that, it was starting to feel more lonely as I saw friend groups I knew split apart for a moment and I would feel unwanted at times when my close friends aren’t around.

It was getting lonely. Being with the school newspaper team felt most like home when our meetings happened, but it wasn’t enough.

(Don’t worry, I’m okay now and my friends – including my ex – are currently on good terms.)

December 4, 2019. The router at home was having internet problems and I couldn’t properly play the Mirishita event at the time, “Hitomi no Naka no Sirius”. I was at home since we didn’t have to go to school because of a holiday. I don’t fully remember what led to me messing around on my two phones – but for some reason, I typed “S.E.M” onto Google search on a whim and found their work again. It was clear that I was bored by that point, so I started reading their magazines and event stories again to pass the time.

Seeing S.E.M and the relationship within the trio… reminded me of home. What appealed to me about them wasn’t just their “silly” reason for becoming idols in the first place or their entire concept (which is already something you don’t see in other mixed media idol/music franchises often), it was the relationship between three grown men (who were colleagues from the same workplace they left) getting into the entertainment industry just to inspire and motivate others to follow their dreams and, of course, study. School had a strong importance for most of my life where I could show my true self without feeling restricted by my family’s presence. Seeing them… made me smile.

I started rambling about them – especially Jiro, who initially became my favorite among the trio back then – to my best friend. The brainrot slowly took over. I was already sure that all three of them were here to stay this time. The brainrot made me reinstall MStage and return to my account, and I started playing the original Mobage with my beginner-level Japanese knowledge.

As I started talking more about that trio of ex-teachers with her, I realized how insecure I really was about my interests; too shy to talk to random strangers online as well. At that time, it felt like that had to change. I created my present-day Twitter account in early 2020. That was originally dedicated to my interests (and eventually became my main account) and I started talking in English-speaking IM@S servers more often. I’ve made friends with people from around the world and from my own home country. I even started posting some of my own art on there and would try to start posting on other social media platforms over the years. It was nerve-wracking, but perhaps it made me feel a little less lonely compared to before, looking back.

When I left another fandom (which was related to IRL idols) in early 2020, I made a pledge to myself that no matter how bad the branch’s situation gets, I would stay with the boys until the end. Of all the media I have ever touched, none would come close as to what THE IDOLM@STER SideM would ever bring me into on a very personal level. Its message and theme of starting over again at any age resonated with me, and it hits hard especially as I grew older. I’ve met many Producers of varying branches over the last 3-4 years, have taken part in several fan community projects – including running entire Twitter accounts and fan wikis and Discord servers – and helped me learn some skills along the way.

As for my tantous in IM@S itself? Michio Hazama (and by extension, S.E.M as whole) would overtake everyone, of course. Entering 2020, I had to rank the New Year’s Michio event in LIVE ON ST@GE! right after I just returned to it, then my first S.E.M-focused event since I started the Mobage was a Michio rank. The first artwork I posted on Twitter publicly was his New Year event SR for his birthday.

Of all the tantous I’ve met, none could reach the same personal level of love, care, and interest I have for them as much as him. (Even if a certain Cinderella Girl came to challenge that notion.) I remembered one of my types being a quiet, serious guy with glasses. His silent passion and strict (yet caring) demeanor towards his pupils, the way he wants to see them succeed from an educator’s point of view, and his moments with the cast – especially with his unitmates and Producer – brought me immense warmth.

I knew he would become my favorite idol within the branch as time went on, but he eventually won me over the most within the entire franchise. A serious man in glasses is an archetype you would often see, but seeing a teacher figure want the best for his students and his unit, as well as being passionate about his work and not being overly loud about it drives me insane.

Fast forward to 2022. When GROWING STARS had its 1st anniversary campaign, the vibes I got from the online surroundings at the time didn’t settle well with me. Honestly, I was very disappointed with the execution of the anniversary campaign itself, although I tried to keep myself in tact. There was a lingering feeling that what is now a core aspect of myself about to break down once again, especially seeing how some Producers I met through SideM had (understandably) either left or took a break for better, greener pastures. I found myself turning towards a certain pair of adult ladies from another production to help me go through my short break from SideM at the time, but still kept in touch with IM@S by that point. As I thought about the other idols (who are over 20 y/o) I would eventually produce – especially when it comes to that pair of ladies – I thought to myself that what if SideM helped rewire my taste.

And now, with the advent of the last remaining SideM game’s impending, terribly received, and horribly executed shutdown and with Bandai Namco having revealed its future plans through a roadmap... I’m lost and unsure where to go. It’s like I KNOW where to go, but don’t know how to go further despite the circumstances. I even gave a large “sigh” towards the announcement before I’d write the GROWING STARS shutdown notice itself onto the SideM ENG Twitter.

It took me a few days to write up my full response towards the shutdown announcement up to the point where I was writing it in the middle of my trip days after the stream. Before that, I had left several disappointed tweets which eventually became hit tweet after hit tweet.

I’ve been into IM@S as a Producer for 5 years by this point. I didn’t want to celebrate it like this.

Despite everything though, I told myself that I wouldn’t leave. I did say that I would still keep in touch with IM@S, and I can’t deny the impact that it has left towards me and how I saw my IM@S tantou roster (which has grown since I became S.E.M’s Producer.) I’ve had moments where I questioned my worth as a P over the past few years. I've seen others’ achievements when I’m still trying to get my foot into learning Japanese up to this day. I've seen other Producers, same tantou or otherwise, rank high in the games when points ranking was still a thing while I’ve never been able to get past the Top 1000 event points ranking for a S.E.M/Michio-focused event. And I may probably never will.

However...

If it weren’t for the people I’ve met, the characters I’ve met, and the Producers I’ve met and would encounter... I often have my lonely days and would feel gloomy over things for no particular reason (and I still do), but I wouldn’t trade my own experiences with different friend groups I’ve made for the world.

I want to reach as high as I can to beat my past Top 100 success in Mirishita, even if it’s through my actions in a game I’ve yet to reach that same level. For as long as I’m allowed to produce my tantou units through whatever games they have left.

I want to continue supporting the idols I’ve met, and the two units I’ll continue to produce. Taking care of a pair of drinking buddies who are over 20 and a trio of ex-teachers doesn’t sound too bad.

I love S.E.M an insane amount. I love Michio an even more insane amount.

Because I wouldn’t be here without them. And maybe I wouldn't have gotten that first push to do all of what I’ve done without them.

I need to tell you how upside down the Idolmaster world is right now

a couple years ago, sideM's game, the only series with guy idols (and really, primarily older idols) shut down, extremely quickly. It was short lived, the announcement came ominously and they managed the situation really weirdly

then they made a second game, sideM growing stars.

growing stars is shutting down now after only about a year of service

same sudden EOS announcement where they left everyone hanging for a few days and also announced it the day after april fool's day. announced a live stream to discuss sideM's future, set for a few days later, gave no further info, then the livestream was extremely short and was basically just like yeah...sideM closing now. lol

this was just after they had a huge concert, Masters of idol world, with all the branches. it was this really unifying event that felt like it brought everyone together as a family, there were these contest winning banner designs of characters from all branches including sideM, who always gets the short end of the stick compared to the girls branches, so it really felt like a good change

then that stuff happened with the sudden eos for growing stars

now, they announced a new arcade game a few months ago, showing a few promotional material/what the cabinet is supposed to look like. the lead girl/guy from every branch is on the front

the night that growing stars eos was announced. the very night, like, 2 HOURS AFTER, they previewed photocards for that arcade game without sideM's lead guy, he's just gone

so after all that bs about being united they just outed him from the family practically, along with the rest of sideM

sideM was beautiful by the way. a lot of ssrs had the unidolized side reversed, where they're already on stage performing, and the evolced side would be them, just living life, a candid moment with their unitmates. it was so heartwarming and a really nice look into their lives, I miss it

shiny colors, which has set a precedent for high standards in ssr design/animation features, is doing really really well. but not well enough for bandai I guess, who just announced another shiny colors game, their first rhythm game

the animation is entirely cg but it looks better than the upcoming shiny colors anime, which is also in cg, it looks like the pripara 3d artists did it practically. it looks expensive. it looks like we may be seeing another very early EOS in the upcoming year for the first shiny colors..

bandai also, days after the eos announcement for sidem, announce a new joseimuke game for another idol franchise.

so.

anyways they also just introduced a really fucking weird vtuber branch, I feel like bandai just wanted it to succeed so they slapped the imas kabel on it because it's nothing like any imas series ever

the three vtubers have one year of activities and if they don't succeed, they'll lose their position in the branch (their seiyuu will lose her job.) and they say it will be the viewers fault.,?

they also say everyone in the audience is a "producer" which is weird... because producer isn't just a name if you're a fan of someone.. I know other game fandoms use it that way sometimes, but in imas itself (where the P thing originated in idol games) it has always had a clear purpose, you are producing the girls, you are helping them with careers and fan gain

also. just a little nitpick but. the vtuber girls have no expressions other than base open mouth smile. they have a breathing look/head movement/blinking/mouth movement, but I think the blinking is even automated?? and with no other expressions its so weird....

this is just so. cinderella girls and mirishita are the only ones thriving

I had heard about some of this but not all... I feel so bad for imas fans. some of this stuff genuinely just comes off as mean! like releasing promos for an arcade game and then rereleasing them without any sidem characters

I've heard about the vtubers bc everyone seems to hate them and agree they're not like idolmaster but I didn't know they were also just bad at being vtubers? I'm looking at a video of letora now to see what you mean and she's just swaying loosely. I don't think her movements are rigged to a person beyond maybe open/close mouth. so why are they even vtubers....
