Recovery Thoughts: Day 320 of 362
Are you being mindful while you eat? Are you taking the time to fully chew and savor your food? Do you actually watch each bite as it leaves your plate and enters your mouth? It’s not uncommon nowadays that we eat very quickly and while doing several other things. When’s the last time you sat down to a meal or snack and did not scroll on your phone or laptop, didn’t watch T.V or read a book.. but just sat down and ate? When we are distracted while eating we tend to either eat too much and feel way too full after, or eat all that we dished up and not feel satisfied at all. Not to mention that eating while distracted causes us to eat faster and chew less, which can lead to poor digestion. Something that really helped me during recovery was sitting down to eat with no other distractions and taking the time to chew every bite, savor its flavors and appreciate how it was nourishing my body. This made eating a lot more enjoyable and less like a “chore”. It also helped TREMENDOUSLY with my digestion and allowed me to stop rushed, mindless eating that would leave me feeling anxious and out of control.
Maybe try incorporating even just one “mindful” meal or snack into your day and see how you feel. Don’t beat yourself up if you zone out or eat to fast or forget to chew a bite all the way.  This may sound super easy, but it definitely takes some time and effort to get used to.

Mans aizraujošais ceļojums apzinātības praksē tikai sākas. Es priecājos, ka grūtības šajā ceļā mani nebiedē. Izaicinājumi tikai papildina sajūtu buķeti.
Es sāku vērot tādas detaļas, kam agrāk nepiegriezu lielu nozīmi: - cik procentuāli no sarunas laika runāju es un ļauju runāt otram,  - vai es patiesi pārdzīvoju līdzi savai draudzenei, - kādi ir mani motīvi tai vai citai darbībai un vai es iekāroju sev kādu slēptu, otrā plāna izdevīgumu, - kā es jūtos, kad man izsaka kritiku un kad es kļūdos, - kāpēc es tā jūtos un kas man liks justies citādāk, - vai es atpazīstu glaimus no pelnītas atzinības, - vai es gaidu applausus par labi paveiktu darbu, - vai es spēju iebilst arī tad, ja baidos saņemt pretī atraidījumu, dusmas vai citas negatīvas emocijas, - vai es paļaujos uz citu cilvēku briedumu, kad iebilstu, aizrādu, neglaudu otram pa spalvai, - kāds ir mans runas temps un skaļums, kad jūtu dusmas vai sašutumu, - vai līdzcilvēki ir tikai mani vergi, lai aizpildītu manus robus manā pašvērtējumā, - kā, kad, vai, cik, kam, kamdēļ, ko..
Jā, man sāpīgi skatīties uz saviem trūkumiem, bet es priecājos, ka es spēju tos saskatīt. Šī informācija, šie iegūtie dati ir nenovērtējama bagātība. Tā es beidzot varēšu uzņemties atbildību par to, kā es jūtos, kā es dzīvoju un kur es atrodos.
No otras puses, vērīgi aplūkojot savas sajūtas, domu gājienu un izturēšanos, es varu uzslavēt sevi par drosmi, atklātību, patiesumu un godīgumu, par savu empātiju un spēju niansēti iedziļināties un just līdzcilvēka pārdzīvojumus, lai arī tas prasa atdot milzīgu enerģijas devu. Un tā es ceru salāgot savu neveselīgo pašvērtējumu, kas citreiz zemāks par Danakilas tuksneša ieplaku.
Ik pa laikam es “dzirdu” runājam kādu radību ar sakniebtām lūpām, kura vēlas caur savu šašutumu pažēlot mani: “Bet vai tad nesanāk, ka Tu sevi pārlieku kontrolē? Vai Tu nesagursti no šī visa?” Un saprotu, ka notiek gluži pretēji: vērība atbrīvo, dod spēkus un nomierina. Tā dod klusumu un paplašina manu iekšējo templi, kurā elpot kļūst brīvāk… Un atkal maza uzvara - es neatdevu savu spēku, savu resursu mehānismam, kurš vēlas noraidīt ikvienu centienu mainīties. 
Mainīties uz augšu!

That’s why we have that sense of awe at the Grand Canyon or a beautiful sunset. When we narrow our view (literally and figuratively), our breathing often shallows and our bodies are more likely to release stress hormones. Winter calls for the deserved rest that is necessary before the rebirth that comes with Sping. It's a time for slowing down, refelection, stock taking, resolution making, introspection and deep thinking. The cold outside invites us to stay in, take some time, stay still. I am always surprised to hear so many people loathing winter. It seems like they cannot see the importance of it in the economy of things. Nature is wise and wiser than we will ever be. Everything is there for a reason and we often don't get what we want but we certainly get what we need. I have many wishes for 2020. More than it's reasonable to. It's a new decade startying and closes a pretty difficult and painful one for me. If I have to pick one though is not a really concrete one, but more of a philosophical one I would say. It's more about "how" and less about "what". My "how" is in tune with nature. Nature who doesn't hurry or rush anything but still gets everyting done exactly as it should be. Nature who is never late or inneficient, inadeguate or uneffective. My "how" is about adjusting the rhytm and expectations, trusting the process, learning afresh to live in respect of natural laws. It's about slow living and moderation, balance and acceptance. It's about listenting instead of talking, understanding instead of judging, allowing instead of forcing... I have shared a little more about my take on the upcoming decade and New Year's resolutions in a blog post coming out tomorrow.
