I love how ominous such basic names like "The Organization" or "The Institute" or "The Initiative" or "The Facility" or etc. are when placed in like a shady sci-fi context, like there's no reason for them to sound that suspicious, but without elaboration, it's like here is a place where they are doing things™ and I am like ooohh, because the blank state, the refusal to give you any more detail makes you think they're hiding something on purpose and leaves the darkest corner of the imagination left to fill in the rest.

a lot of people will play dragon age 2 and they'll be like... whoa.... anders is truly a grey character who does both good and evil......
when in actuality anders blowing up the chantry was not only good but based, sexy, and inspirational and he has never done wrong a day in his life

Lily Academy has fallen on hard times 😔
This is some of my thumbnailing from my sketchbook that I finally scanned! Some of the character ideas got moved around, and the core idea of this story has totally changed from my original ideas of a sort of psuedo-airsoft with an arms race, as they chase those sweet ad dollars... Now it's a bit bleaker 🤪

punch out but theres a 3rd title defense
HEAVILY INSPIRED BY @matchamabs's punch out title defense 2 posts!! go check their account out!!
Glass Joe - He gets a baguette and beats the living shit out of you with it, if you somehow attack him while he prepares to hit you with it you get a star + his baguette breaks and he has 2 baguettes to beat you with now
Von Kaiser - He gets another haircut and also turns into a cyborg, if you punch his face enough you can reveal the robotic parts of his face, through his cutscenes he malfunctions a lot more
Disco Kid - He wears 80's fitness gear and becomes faster and dances nonstop, also he has headphones in all the time
King Hippo - He has 3 belts to hold up his new jorts and the little tape on his stomach is now covered in duct tape, the belts are still ridiculously loose and can still be knocked off because he hasnt been pantsed enough already
Piston Hondo - He has a entire ass mech that looks like him, if you do a 3 star punch you can break his mech and have it eject him, you gotta dodge the falling mech or you just get knocked out
bear hugger - He tapes an entire maple tree to him and drinks the maple syrup during the fight that has birds & squirrels in it, similiar to normal title defense king hippo: if you knock off the tree from him he becomes a Disney princess and makes the animals attack you
great tiger - He has a genie lamp and fights you with said genie in it, if you punch the genie enough it goes back into its lamp and tiger gets mad at it
don flamenco - He uses his "perfume" (POISONNN!!!) to attack you, if he sprays you with it Mac gets tired for a few seconds, if you can punch it away from his hands he gathers up the pieces and rubs it on his gloves
aran ryan - He gets a brick tied to a rope and is out for blood, if you can somehow punch the brick it bounces back at him and knocks him out
soda popinski - He has one of those hats where you can store drinks in it and sip from it and he has scientists refilling it almost every second, you can jab them to get them off of his back to stop him from getting stronger
bald bull - He befriends the bull from don flamenco's cutscenes and the bull that charged at him during his td cutscene and attacks you with them, if you knock out any of them he gets more involved in the ring and charges at you more
super macho man - He wears 2 sunglasses during the fight & his roots are showing, if you knock of one of those sunglasses he laughs at you because theres another one on it
mr sandman - He gets a tank, an entire ass tank and proceeds to go crazy with it

{Insert extensive grumbling noises here about half of my YouTube recs being for The Rising Tide playthroughs while I've opted to do a replay of the full game in order to fully grasp the implications of the DLC on the narrative as a whole.}

Images of despair [stellaris version]
#when you're fighting the scourge and making 700+ alloys a month but you NEED MORE#genuinely so glad I invested into a dyson sphere early on to suck the market 100% dry of alloys#pumping out ships because my life depends on it#just imagine. you're a space trader and you heard there's some invasion of bugs somewhere in the galaxy#then the strongest military you've ever seen rolls up and offers you 'any price you name' for spare metal on your ship#you laugh and say '600 energy credits and I'll give you four metal pipes!'#the military says 'deal' and immediately deposits 900 energy credits [the market price of alloys is already increasing]#anyway I'm now sitting here with a military over five times larger than my naval cap#and over four times the population I had before the war#reason: people evacuated the planets the scourge bombed#thousands of pops have settled straight into my empire even in the most dire planets#every square inch of living space is now taken up and every single job is full#every single planet has unemployment [i have an overabundance of consumer goods so I'm just giving them all free stuff]#oh and since I'm gearing the economy now towards 'well. they gotta work SOMEWHERE' [building as many commercial districts as possible]#I am spending hundreds of special resources I do not produce to keep massive company complexes running#imagine this: strange otherworldly beasts are running down your homeworld#you escape into space in a small cargo ship stuffed with people#it's barely enough to be considered a transport but it gets you far enough away to feel safe#as you are running you see the largest collection of ships in your life warp into the system#they unleash hellfire on the aliens and then neuron sweep the planet [the very ground of which got infected]#you shed a tear and look away from the window#three days later you're told you've arrived#you touch down in an extremely busy landing area#there are hundreds of thousands of people everywhere. the mood is joyous#there are screens set up in the square broadcasting the eradication of the aliens#you see people in the crowd you've never seen before. people speak in tongues you've never heard#a guide calls over to you and all the other new arrivals#apparently you weren't the first to run. you won't be the last either#this planet has more than quintoupled its population and is still recieving many people every day#luckily the government has declared they are going to be constructing massive projects to introduce new jobs

DS9's "Second Skin" once again shaming the Stargate Atlantis writing team by doing an episode they wrote but over 10 years earlier and 50 times better. I went on a rant about "Sunday" vs "Lessons" a couple years ago, but watching "Second Skin" is like seeing what "Michael" could have been if written by people who understood drama instead of only being acted by people who did. There are definitely differences, like we start out having a relationship with Kira which we don't with Lt Kenmore, but with the whole fake identity plot having the person's actual parent there makes it sooooooo much more emotional. (This is what I wanted from "Michael"!! Not just handing him a stock photo that literally looks like it came with the frame and telling him "These are your parents." But an actual emotional connection, any tie for him to cling to to believe your bullshit and not just Teyla being quietly agreeable like whoring her out is the only way you can sell your lies. Because, here in DS9 as well, the lies are so obviously bullshit.) But making it a double blind also, where you lied to the parent as well to make sure you manipulated that honest emotional connection into existing, fantastic, exquisite, Stargate wishes. And in the end the point of the episode is different, as Lt Kenmore is the focus of his episode and Kira is really just the excuse to expose the Legate by having him try to protect his "daughter," but (and as much as I love "Michael") the emotional content here is so much deeper and sweeter. Maybe SGA writers are allergic to honest emotions, or maybe the writers were trying to hedge their bets with not portraying their main cast as being as evil as the Obsidian Order... though if you're going to go with the war crimes go whole hog with the war crimes come on.

not me importing my anti-air defense worldbuilding h/cs into ishgard bc I can
#saint.txt#long post#ishgardposting#tl;dr in my personal project one of the big things is that (one) military has had to evolve alongside gryphon riders for a long long time#who's biggest threat are information gathering and the fact they drop flechettes and are nigh-untouchable by anything even each other#even with firearms (which are still very early tech-wise) so anti-air defense is paramount#the biggest results being that *everything* has a roof on it to mitigate stuff falling from the sky.#cities are cramped and avoid open space as much as possible. anti-bird spikes but scaled up on steep roofs so that birds can't land.#buildings are made of non-flammable material like stone when possible. open areas exist mostly as corral zones so that tired birds#must land there and can be easily surrounded on the ground.#but the flashiest is killwire which is basically just wire strung between tall buildings that discourages flight below a certain level#and is difficult to see especially at speed or at night#and if you hit it. well. the idea is based off motorcycle accidents where people have hit wire fences on farms so I'm sure you get the idea#not all of it will apply to Ish.gard but I highly believe that's exactly why Ish.gard is 98% built out of stone#as are all their forts and important structures like bridges. I also believe realistically most streets should be roofed if possible#and open space is kept at a minimum even if daniffen's ward exists. anti-dragon spikes consisting of slots to put lances in on roofs.#Ish.gard might not even have much of a need for 'traditional' forts with huge walls and such bc 90% of their enemies fly so their fort#designs might get a little wild after 1000 years of war. w/ magitek via stephva.nivien you might even electrify the killwire.#ofc some of it already seems to exist - ish.gard's roofs and spires are built *very* steep which would make a dravanian landing on them#difficult and even without that most of them are covered in spires and spikes anyway but. ofc there's the dragonkillers and such too but#ish.gard is a city built on 1000 years of war and hyperspecialized to fighting dragons that fly we really could make it look like that too.#I want to walk into ishgard and immediately know this is a place built on war bc everything about it is hyperspecialized and utilitarian#to fulfill that purpose. look up in ishgard and the stars are replaced with glittering wire.

Ay! I'ma got a similar hc as that anon!, only that he was raised by raccoons before being found by a ex-military sergeant, funnily enough
(ooc) I actually love that!
Solly's ambiguous everything is so much fun, I love playing around with his backstory
for the longest time I believed he was on the run from the police (mass murder is a little illegal) so that's why he's Jane Doe and blah blah
I have noticed that Solly being raised by animals is kinda common lol, when his childhood is brought into question he's usually an orphan or smth and gets raised by animals
this exact speculation is why he's one of my favorites, he's so vague and so feral his childhood could be anything!

So doing D&D prep and I've got two different NPCs the party might choose to fight on the way to finding the Dragon Turtle's lair with the artifact they're hunting. And the need to create complete dungeons around each potential boss fight to keep the players from just brutally novaing their way through them has been surprisingly good at making me come up with, like, a supporting cast for each potential boss.
