eddie belatedly realises his type is Jock one wednesday evening in june, 1985, whilst watching mtv with wayne.

neither of the two could find it within themselves to turn off the television as the pilot for some british sitcom - 'the young ones' - began to air. a few snorts of laughter were shared between the two men as the episode progressed, eddie making half-hearted attempts to insult the punk (vyvyan, apparently) to uphold his standing as a metalhead. easy pickings when he looked like That(TM)

eddie fell quiet, though, when mike thecoolperson came on screen. he was enraptured through the second half of the show after his first glimpse of the man, watching avidly as- oh jesus

watching avidly as mike attempted to seduce some council woman.

eddie had previously assumed, logically, in his mind, that the pit that opened in his stomach at the sight of one steve harrington was fear. eddie was an easy target for the collection of jocks prowling the school halls and, sure, harrington had never done more than bite out a catty remark in eddie's general direction, but it wasn't unreasonable of eddie to be scared of him. the man practically ran the school.

it was only as that same pit developed at the sight of mike that it clicked for eddie. there was no threat from this british jock (as much as the british could substitute as a jock, really), and there was something undeniably sexy about his suaveness, his ability to keep others calm and lead the situation.

steve's face was easily transposed over mike's in eddie's head. hell, eddie even supplied himself in the place of the council representative mike attempted to seduce.

all in all, eddie was screwed, and wayne's cackling at his enamor was doing nothing to help
