I'm obsessed with the idea of a midnight library that's open as an alternative hangout to clubs/bars. I work nights and would DIE for a place to hangout late at night where there isn't drinking and crazy loud music

This book is worth the hype! THE MIDNIGHT LIBRARY by @mattzhaig made me laugh, cry, and constantly turning the page to find out what happens. I think everyone can relate to many of the things Nora feels. I could not help but root for her throughout the book. Definitely 5 ⭐️. And YES I got a Kindle! I never thought I would get one and I never expected to love it! But traveling a lot this year and it’s so nice to have books at my fingertips without the weight. Now, I am debating joining Kindle Unlimited. Link in bio ☕️ What are you reading? I just finished Midnight Library and found it very healing. It’s a really great story for anyone who has struggled with regrets, or has felt like crumbs about themselves for letting someone down. It starts out very dark, warning. CW suicide. But. Like I said, it was very healing. Currently reading Furiously Happy, and am loving it. It opens a huge conversation about mental health. I’m also currently rereading Sandry’s Book by one of my favorite authors, Tamora Pierce. I usually have one of her books going in the background. They’re comforting and full of strong female characters and good leaders. I’m going to be doing some writing myself, some short stories for the new blog Mosswood Forest. Az Éjfél Könyvtár egy olyan kortárs regény, amely fantasztikus elemeket használva állítja fejre nem csak a főszereplő, de az olvasó életét is. Kötelező olvasmány a mágikus realizmus szerelmeseinek.

Főszereplőnk, Nora Seed éppen mély depresszióban éli meg mindennapjait, és kész arra, hogy véget vessen életének. Ám amikor öngyilkosságot kísérel meg, élet és halál között egy érdekes helyre, az éjfél könyvtárba kerül. Itt lehetősége nyílik arra, hogy alternatív univerzumokba látogasson – a könyvtárban tárolt könyveknek köszönhetően—ahol különböző döntéseinek következtében eltérő életútjait ismeri meg.

A könyvtár használatának természetesen megvannak a szabályai, az új tudásnak pedig következményei. Mindemellett a rendelkezésre álló idő véges!

A regényt műfaja szerint be tudjuk sorolni a mágikus realizmust képviselő művek sorába, melyekben jellemzően a varázslatos elemek létrejöttéről nem kapunk magyarázatot. Ez a szereplőket általában nem zavarja, élik tovább életüket, mintha mi sem történt volna. Az idő torzítása is jellemzője ezeknek a műveknek: miként a könyvtárban is másként telnek a percek Nora számára, mint az azon kívül megélt helyszíneken.

A mágikus realizmus kifejezést először egy német kritikus alkotta az 1920-as években, hogy ennek segítségével mutasson be néhány amerikai festményt, de általánosan elterjedtté a latin-amerikai irodalom 20. századi felvirágzásával vált. Ennek mérföldköve Gabriel García Márquez 1967-ben megjelent Száz év magány című regénye, ami a mágikus realista irodalom igazi megteremtője lett.

Az Éjfél Könyvtár gyönyörű emlékeztetőül szolgál arra, hogy a dolgok mindig jobbra fordulhatnak. Bár a könyv fikció, mégis az író saját élményein, mentális egészségéért való küzdésén alapul.

The Midnight Library (A short review)

The Midnight Library (2020)

The Midnight Library is written differently from what I'm used to and I loved it. Matt Haig’s writing style Is broken into sections, he uses titles for each part, (as well as chapters) but every few pages and there is something fulfilling about it that makes you want to keep reading on. I couldn't put this book down I had to know what was going to happen next and who doesn't want that?

The main character is a 35-year-old woman who lives in Bedford, named Nora. We follow her story as she comes to the decision to end her life and it starts thick and fast. Nora has lost her way and isn't satisfied with her life, everything is going wrong... kind of refreshing, in a weird kind of way. Fantasy fiction books love to base the story around a heroic man or woman (in my experience) but this time, it's just a normal woman.

I'd highly recommend reading this and having a look more into it. 4.5/5.

Aku kira buku ini bercerita tentang buku-buku sebelum membaca blur, eh ternyata iya tentang buku tapi buku kehidupan, tentang kemungkinan-kemungkinan yang bisa kita pilih seandainya punya kesempatan untuk mencoba opsi pilihan hidup yang sesuai dengan keinginan kita. Tapi apakah bisa? Menghindari rasa sakit dan penderitaan. Buku ini sebenarnya sudah selesai aku baca dua bulan yang lalu, namun yah dilanda perasaan mager ternyata cukup membuatku tak berminat membuat jejak di instagram. Buku ini cukup berkesan ketika aku baca seusai pulih dari sakit yang membuatku akhirnya sadar untuk memberi jeda untuk diriku sendiri melihat "kenyataan" yang selama ini tak kasat mata olehku. Perasaan Nora yang merasa tak berhargapun cukup related ya. Meski buku ini cukup mudah ditebak akhirnya namun aku menikmati cara penulis menjabarkan kisah Nora dengan indah lewat kutipan-kutipan ala filsafat dan apalagi kucingnya pun diberi nama Voltaire, unik. "Kita tidak bisa tahu apakah versi-versi lain itu akan lebih baik atau lebih buruk.
