Joan Baez Asks “Am I Pretty When I Fly?”
- Book, subtitled “An Album of Upside Down Drawings,” to be released April 4
Retired from live performance since 2019, Joan Baez has lots of time to draw.
A collection of the results, titled “Am I Pretty When I Fly? An Album of Upside Down Drawings,” will be released April 4.
Described in a news release as “lovingly loose and charming,” Baez’s sketches touch on politics (duh), relationships and family, women and animals.
Baez will promote the book April 6 in San Francisco (in conversation with Paul Liberatore), April 8 in Nashville (Emmylou Harris) and April 10 in New York, (Michael Moore).
“We know we live in an upside-down world, but the human eye, in its every waking moment, is actually taking an upside-down picture and turning it right side up on the way to the brain,” Moore said in a statement.
“This book insists we see the world the way it really is. I’ve never seen such a work as this. Wow. Just wow.”

‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Renewed For Two Seasons At Netflix; Live-Action Series Will Conclude With Season 3
Avatar: The Last Airbender, the anime-inspired live-action series, will be able to tell the story of the four nations: Water. Earth. Fire. Air after Netflix renewed it for a further two seasons.
The streamer has handed the show a two-season renewal order to conclude the story of Aang’s journey to become the Avatar.
It comes after the show premiered on Netflix on February 22 and recorded 41.1M views in its first 11 days, topping its TV list for the last two weeks and being on track to enter its top ten most-watched list over its first three months.
The plan is to film these two seasons – seasons two and three – in close succession in order to mitigate the fact that child actors tend to grow up quickly.
The series comes from Rideback, whose boss Dan Lin, an exec producer on the series, was recently named Netflix’s new film chief, replacing Scott Stuber. Albert Kim is showrunner, having replaced original creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko in 2020.
Its three season run will mirror the structure of the animated series, which featured three books across three seasons to Aang’s story that premiered on Nickelodeon in 2005, and became a hit on Netflix during the early stages of the pandemic.
It’s not clear how many episodes will be produced for season two and three. Season one features eight episodes.
Avatar: The Last Airbender takes place in a world that is divided into four nations: the Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation, and the Air Nomads. “Benders” are people that have the ability to telekinetically manipulate and control the element corresponding to their nation, using gestures based on Chinese martial arts. The “Avatar” is the only individual with the ability to bend all four elements.
The four nations once lived in harmony, with the Avatar, master of all four elements, keeping peace between them. But everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked and wiped out the Air Nomads, the first step taken by the firebenders towards conquering the world. With the current incarnation of the Avatar yet to emerge, the world has lost hope. But like a light in the darkness, hope springs forth when Aang (Gordon Cormier), a young Air Nomad — and the last of his kind — reawakens to take his rightful place as the next Avatar.
Alongside his newfound friends Sokka (Ian Ousley) and Katara (Kiawentiio), siblings and members of the Southern Water Tribe, Aang embarks on a quest to save the world and fight back against the onslaught of Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim). But with a driven Crown Prince Zuko (Dallas Liu) determined to capture them, it won’t be an easy task. They’ll need the help of the many allies and colorful characters they meet along the way. Ken Leung and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee also star.
Kim and Lin exec produce produce alongside Jabbar Raisani, Lindsey Liberatore and Michael Goi. Goi and Raisani directed episodes in season one alongside Roseanne Liang and Jet Wilkinson.
It is Netflix’s second anime-inspired live-action hit after One Piece, following a rocky start in the genre with Cowboy Bepop. The streamer highlighted it as one of its latest successful adaptations, coming on the back of other IP-driven series such as The Sandman, Wednesday, Arcane and Sweet Tooth.
The creative team behind the series is keen to expand the story. Avatar executive producer and director Jabbar Raisani told Deadline that there’s stuff that they filmed that didn’t make it into season one.
“If we get another season, then we will certainly have those things, because I know what we missed now and I know how to do better the second time around,” he said. “The animated series is a really good guide…for where the show can go.”

Twins Edge Cardinals To Take Series!
Twins 5 Cardinals 3 W-Gray (5-4) L-Liberatore (1-4) SV-Duran (19)
The Minnesota Twins took a step back last night when the Cardinals beat them up. The team closed out the road trip tonight in St. Louis looking for a series win. The Twins struck first in the second as Jorge Polanco drew a lead-off walk. Two batters later, Ryan Jeffers smoked a Matthew Liberatore curveball out to left-center for a two-run homer. Willi Castro followed with a double off Matthew Liberatore's foot. Michael Taylor then blasted a fastball out to left for a two-run shot to double the Twins lead to four. The Cardinals answered in the bottom of the second as Alec Burleson dumped a single to left. Dylan Carlson doubled home a run and St. Louis was on the board. The starting pitchers settled down in the middle innings then the Twins slowly loaded the bases in the sixth. Michael Taylor drew a bases loaded walk. The Cardinals responded in the bottom of the sixth as Alec Burleson smacked a Sonny Gray fastball out to right for a solo homer. St. Louis pulled within three after six innings. Meanwhile, Sonny Gray finished off seven solid innings and Griffin Jax put up a zero in the eighth. Alec Burleson led-off the ninth with a single to center and reached second on a groundball. He moved up to third on a wild pitch and scored on a grounder. Andrew Knizner kept the gave alive with a two-out infield single. Taylor Motter struck out to end the game and the Twins took the series tonight in St. Louis.
-Final Thoughts- Sonny Gray pitched very well against a lineup without Nolan Arenado. He went seven innings and allowed two runs on five hits with eight strikeouts. Griffin Jax fanned two in a clean eighth and Jhoan Duran gave up a run in the ninth for the save. Donovan Solano led the way with two hits on the night. The Twins hit 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. The Twins now have a 2.5 game lead over the Indians in the division. Tomorrow, Merrill Kelly faces Bailey Ober as the Diamondbacks come to town for a weekend series.

A blast from the not-too-distant past. After turning pro in the early 2010’s, Michael Liberatore was heralded as the Next Big Thing. He turned up all over the place, featuring in countless photo spreads, video shoots, and interviews. With his tremendously pumped and vascular physique, roughly handsome face, and an articulate demeanor, he was, briefly, a big star on the scene. But his onstage showings were never great and almost as soon as he appeared, he was gone, along with his pretty fitness competitor wife. Too bad. But, thankfully, we’ll always have pics and vids of his competition and guest routines, where he displays a uniquely sensual, almost aggressively horny, posing style and, ahem, one of the hottest, most revealing, bulges in pro history. I mean, I have to imagine that any live audience looking on—while surely thrilled and no doubt titillated—also must have felt a bit abashed watching him so suggestively display his naked, oiled, strapping body and hot package. It certainly would have been a memorable and rousing sight to behold.

Netflix has announced the main cast and creative team for its live-action TV adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Cast
Gordon Cormier as Aang
Kiawentiio as Katara
Ian Ousley as Sokka
Dallas Liu as Zuko
Albert Kim (Sleepy Hollow, Nikita) will serve as showrunner, executive producer and writer of the series with Rideback’s Dan Lin (The Lego Movie, Aladdin) and Lindsey Liberatore (Walker) executive producing, along with Michael Goi (Swamp Thing, American Horror Story). Roseanne Liang is co-executive producer and Goi, Roseanne Liang and Jabbar Raisani will serve as directors.
“A live-action version would establish a new benchmark in representation and bring in a whole new generation of fans,” Kim wrote. “This was a chance to showcase Asian and Indigenous characters as living, breathing people. Not just in a cartoon, but in a world that truly exists, very similar to the one we live in.
I also knew what I didn’t want to do. I didn’t want to change things for the sake of change. I didn’t want to modernize the story, or twist it to fit current trends. Aang is not going to be a gritty antihero. Katara is not going to get curtain bangs. (I was briefly tempted to give Sokka a TikTok account though. Think of the possibilities.)
Don’t get me wrong. We’ll be expanding and growing the world, and there will be surprises for existing fans and those new to the tale. But throughout this process, our byword has been “authenticity.” To the story. To the characters. To the cultural influences. Authenticity is what keeps us going, both in front of the camera and behind it, which is why we’ve assembled a team unlike any seen before—a group of talented and passionate artists who are working around the clock to bring this rich and incredibly beautiful world to life.”
- Albert Kim, showrunner and writer
