The Jordan Air Ship PE SP ‘Every Game - UNC’ features a colorway that will be familiar to fans, drawing inspiration from Michael Jordan's UNC practice shorts worn under his Chicago Bulls uniform. The retro basketball shoe features a white leather upper with matching stitching and a toe box with perforations for breathability. The iconic Swoosh, collar and eyestay are covered in a light blue, shaggy suede material with 'Every Game' stitched on the back. The textured midsole has a vintage look, and the blue rubber outsole provides excellent traction on the hardwood.

plz tell us more ABT gg!
u guys don't know how happy i am to get this ask, man!! ive been ROOTING for good things to come with gg !! a little quietly at the beginning bcs i didn't want to add more pressure onto the lil guy, but man. im so glad things are going well for him!!! he's had a.. challenging start, to say, for a career in the NBA... at least regarding public opinion, anyways.
I'm a fan of UNC basketball, that's how I heard abt GG in the first place. For necessary background, UNC is a Big basketball school that hailed Michael Jordan, hence how i'm a fan bcs Chicago duh. GG isnt from North Carolina, but he IS from SOUTH carolina (remember this), so UNC was definitely trying to recruit him using homefield advantage and big name BCS GG was hyped to be a big FUTURE talent. Keyword being future. The main conflicts in GG's basketball journey were: going into college a year early.. and going into the NBA a year early. Basically, in his 'freshman' year of college.. he was actually (supposed to be) a HIGHSCHOOL senior. AND NOW.. in his first year in the nba.. he's actually supposed to be a FRESHMAN in COLLEGE. Going into things early isn't new in the nba.. but to do it twice? It can double the average challenges.
UNC was one of the mainstream stems from that 1st conflict. Short summary, GG originally committed to NORTH carolina for 79 days. Took the pictures, all that. UNC was stoked to have him as a player whose talents they could help mold. GG was projected, at one point in HIGHSCHOOL to be # 1! Which makes it sound silly for UNC to have work in PROGRESS plans for GG and not INSTANT stardom set up. But we have to keep in mind the FIRST CONFLICT: GG reclassified from highschool early. All these projections & hype are very preemptive. NOW IF HES A HIGHSCHOOL SENIOR who did FOUR years of lower school.. and the hype has CONTINUED throughout those 4 years.. then the narrative maybe wouldve been different in terms of training. Gg's skills would be more trusted than trained since he has the stability in years and evidence of backing claims. Projections would turn into points. But he didn't. And that's fine!! That's more than fine for UNC because they have basketball history! They have proven tools and methods to help turn the number 23 into the name MICHAEL JORDAN. UNC FANS and UNC itself were excited to have GG on as a future eventual sophomore star at the LEAST! They were excited to show GG how to sharpen his young skills using their own very skillful roster!
And then GG decommited for a college closer to where he's from (South Carolina). Now you would think UNC would be mad because they view it as 'betrayal' to their 'great rival south', but... they don't. Because south carolina is. Not their great rival. At least not as much anymore. It used to be, there's OLD history, but.. now it's just history because UNCs been creating NEW history. It's UNC versus DUKE now. It's UNC entering bigger basketball, and South? It's not really doing that.
UNC fans are mad not because of the name of the school, but the game of it. South Carolina simply does not have the same depth, training, resources, and stardom as UNC. That's why they're not really rivals anymore.. UNC's outgrown South in terms of basketball skill. The decommital wasn't exactly an insult of namebrand, but of pure, raw skill.
GG went to South because it wasn't as skilled. That's what all the UNC people who are hurt about it say. I don't personally share the same hurt, but i can see the reason. Kids can choose big schools that can nuture them into an eventual big name later on, which means you can risk your pick in the draft being lower from so many big fish sharing the same ocean, but it can help you seem more solid and safe as an option so you WILL eventually be picked (talking abt like maxey and keldon going to Kentucky. Didn't get picked too high, but still got picked anyways), or go to a small school with a smaller pool so you have all the room to show off your talent.. with the risk of showing off your weaknesses as well from the bigger burden of being the star backbone. Stand out more, get stung more. And GG got... he got stung pretty bad.
I don't care what future prospects do, tbh. Im not the kind of guy who's like 'LOOK AT THIS 9FT TALL 9 YEAR OLD!! IMAGINE HIM IN THE 20XX DRAFT!!!' like girl. i could be dead by the time he becomes a teen or smthin. Im not gonna worry abt some child bcs. Like. Im normal lol. They have their own worries, and i have my own worries. Sadly, not a lot of people think like that... especially people who like college sports. Idk if it's a variation of that one person who keeps visiting their old highschool 'stomping grounds' or What. But they feel like a certain entitlement to their college and who enters it. GG going to a smaller basketball 'pool' (talent terms) school was a lowblow to their 'UNC COLLEGE PRIDE' or whatever. 5 star talent is decommitting from a 5 star talent college to a . A 1 star. Oh my gosh, you woulda thought these grown men considered it a stabbing from their own son. Their wouldve been next Michael jordan just walked out to go to community college, in dramatized words.
' but GG IS from SOUTH carolina! He's not from North! It makes sense, at least, for him to want to stay at his hometown even though it's smaller! Like ant! ' but unlike ant.. he only did 3 years of highschool. Ant did 4, built up both SOLID and big hype, then denied big schools for his home team Straight Up. When GG wanted to stay closer to home, it showed less loyalty and more selfishness .. to the press anyways.. BECAUSE he's ONLY done 3 years! Only has 3 years of resume! To UNC, gg should be GRATEFUL to even be CONSIDERED by them RIGHT now. If he had 4 years and KEPT UP a STRONG hype, then it'd be reversed. But it's not. GG is too young, UNC is too stacked, and South is too desperate.
GG goes to South Carolina. He even filmed a little tiktok with his friends poking fun at his decommitment from big UNC to South. It was a little light thing that quickly got deleted, but on social media.. nothing is light and nothing is ever Really deleted. You can still find the video and you can still find the insulted UNC fans under it. It's just more evidence of how young he is and how naive he is to burdens regarding business. So anyways, he goes to South Carolina... and he doesn't do what he was hyped to do. It was too much pressure, too much scarcity of help. The coach, who's close to GG bcs hes the best thing they have to a 'star', despite how young he is.. They're that bare bones, sees how all these minutes are doing more harm to GG's stock than help like college minutes for any player is supposed to, and tries sitting him out more as a solution. Tries writing plays that'll set GG up for maybe an assist but not a point, definitely not points because he just hasn't been getting them and if the NBA didn't see it back then during smaller scale highschool.. they definitely see it in college. They definitely see it in a SMALL basketball college, when there isnt a lot of other teammates to stare at or depend on. Big Scale UNC fans CERTAINLY see it after GG politely then not-so politely turned down their 'token of kindness' for.. what's shaping up to be a big mistake.
GG does not take very well to that. ONE OF the ups on why he chose this school of namebrand UNC (im not saying it's the ONLY reason, like some angered Unc fans may, but im also not saying it Not one to be considered . Im just bringing general observations that are either heavily backed or confirmed by fact) is for those HEAVY minutes. He was hyped to be their star, but he's not getting those deep save the game minutes he expected. He was supposed to get all the plays, and now he's getting some. So he does what ANY kid does nowadays and rants his frustrations out on social media
Tumblr media
that doesn't go well. He can't be a kid, not according to college, not when you set yourself up to be the leader of a team. When you take on big tasks, you take on big blame as well. That goes double in sports. It's a bit harsh, if you ask me, but no one's asking.
So now he has all this doubt in his head. And his dad isn't an athlete, he's a pastor, so he's telling GG to have faith and to have faith and faith and faith, but what if it's FAKE? what if UNC was right in telling him he can't shoulder this alone. What if everyone was right. What if he's selfish. So he enters the draft and it's SPECULATED that he didn't do well.
Tumblr media
People are saying the person who dropped it then dropped so low in the draft because of it is him. People in the nba and out of it. I'm not saying it's true or it's not, we don't know, but i do know that having a rumor like THIS on you? When you're so young?? Is not good. At all. Combine that with his less than positive living to the solo hype at South? And you get this.
Tumblr media
GG crying at his own draft party because of how poorly he's doing.
Just looking at the photo alone just fuckin. Splits the heart for me. He's a KID!! he's a KID! i don't know if it just hits harder for me bcs ive BEEN to draft parties where the draft never happened, or maybe because we're like one year apart in youth, like im not that 'discontented nothing better to do in my life' adult yet like a lot of his long-term haters have been.. but like. That sucks. That's awful to see. His coach, the same person GG openly criticized on social media, being in his ear CONSOLING him.. keeping him from bawling in front of all these people.. telling him he could always come back to college and give it another year and GG doesn't even know if he should do that or not is.. it's painful!! GG set this party up BANKING off the Hope, the FAITH that the hype he had back in HIGHSCHOOL, those THREE years.. was STRONG enough to get him drafted not top 10 but at least first ROUND?? And that sounds stupid now, it sounds silly, it sounds grandiose, and it is. It has to be because he WAS the projected #1 pick at some point. He WAS a lottery pick. And now he doesn't even know if he's gonna be picked at all because of what? Because he had faith? Because he betted on himself? He listened to his dad?? He's a kid??????
That's what a Lot of people wanted for him. They CRAVED it. They WANTED him to fail BECAUSE he's young and because he's made mistakes and because it happens. It's unfair for other possibilities. Famous failure is different than mere familiar failure. It just tastes better.
I care about GG because I think some people, who have no business to, care about him Too much. I'm just happy he's managed to do what makes him happy because not everyone can, so it's a blessing that he can and I love that for him. I don't care about GG bcs he 'proved the haters wrong blahblah blah', because he really didn't. He went in young, took the harder option, and got his draft history hurt because of it. Shit happens. He's clearly learning, he's clearly improving, and he's clearly happy.
And i like when people are happy. Idk, maybe im just sick :)

Opening Tip - Defining Greatness
Greatness is defined as the quality of being great in size, skill, achievement, or power. In basketball, fans and media alike tend to equate greatness with championships.
This obviously is a flawed method for evaluating the best talent to ever grace an NBA court.  Shaq was the largest and most physically dominant player, yet he is not even the greatest center of all time.
Lebron James has competed in 10 NBA Finals, but only won 4.  Bill Russell won 11 titles as a player, and 2 more as a coach.
All of these players could be named as the greatest of all time, but we have reserved the coronation for one player.
There exists only one player in history with; 6 NBA Finals appearances, a record of 6-0 in the Finals, and winning three in a row twice.
No player has had or ever will have, the overall impact globally on the sport of basketball the way he did.
Based solely on statistics, this could be a debate until the end of time, but whatever, Michael Jordan is the best of The 10 Greatest Players In NBA History.
They Cut Michael Jordan?
Michael Jordan was only 5’ 11” in high school, and was actually considered too short to make his varsity team. That would not be the last they would see of Jordan.
Working relentlessly in the summer, stringing together a bunch of games where he lit up the scoreboard for more than 40 as a junior varsity player, and growing 4 inches, Michael would make the varsity squad the following year.
Averaging over 25 points per game in each of his last two seasons in high school, and being named to play in the Mc Donald’s All-American game (a game featuring the highest recruited and overall best players in the United States), all indications were that Jordan was coming.
College Days - Michael at UNC
Michael would continue to grow his game, which was a combination of smoothness and precision, while he waited for the certain flood of recruitment letters that would be coming his way. Jordan was sought after by some of the country’s best basketball programs such as Duke, Syracuse, and Virginia.
In the end, Michael chose legendary coach Dean Smith and the University of North Carolina Tar Heels.
Since this article is about NBA players and their greatness, Jordan’s career NCAA statistics are irrelevant.

Stuart Scott
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Stuart Orlando Scott (July 19, 1965 – January 4, 2015) was an American sportscaster and anchor on ESPN, most notably on SportsCenter. Well known for his hip-hop style and use of catchphrases, Scott was also a regular for the network in its National Basketball Association (NBA) and National Football League (NFL) coverage.
Scott grew up in North Carolina, and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He began his career with various local television stations before joining ESPN in 1993. Although there were already accomplished African-American sportscasters, his blending of hip hop with sportscasting was unique for television. By 2008, he was a staple in ESPN's programming, and also began on ABC as lead host for their coverage of the NBA.
In 2007, Scott had an appendectomy and learned that his appendix was cancerous. After going into remission, he was again diagnosed with cancer in 2011 and 2013. Scott was honored at the ESPY Awards in 2014 with the Jimmy V Award for his fight against cancer, less than six months before his death in 2015 at the age of 49.
Early life
Stuart Orlando Scott was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 19, 1965 as the son of O. Ray and Jacqueline Scott. When he was 7, Scott and his family moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Scott had a brother named Stephen and two sisters named Susan and Synthia.
He attended Mount Tabor High School for 9th and 10th grade and then completed his last two years at Richard J. Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem, graduating in 1983. In high school, he was a captain of his football team, ran track, served as Vice President of the Student Council, and was the Sergeant at Arms of the school's Key Club. Scott was inducted into the Richard J. Reynolds High School Hall of Fame during a ceremony on February 6, 2015, which took place during the Reynolds/Mt. Tabor (the two high schools that Scott attended) basketball game.
He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and was part of the on-air talent at WXYC. While at UNC, Scott also played wide receiver and defensive back on the football team. In 1987, Scott graduated from the UNC with a B.A. in speech communication. In 2001, Scott gave the commencement address at UNC where he implored graduates to celebrate diversity and recognize the power of communication.
Career
Following graduation, Scott worked as a news reporter and weekend sports anchor at WPDE-TV in Florence, South Carolina from 1987 until 1988. Scott came up with the phrase "as cool as the other side of the pillow" while working his first job at WPDE. After this, Scott worked as a news reporter at WRAL-TV 5 in Raleigh, North Carolina from 1988 until 1990. WRAL Sports anchor Jeff Gravley recalled there was a "natural bond" between Scott and the sports department. Gravley described his style as creative, gregarious and adding so much energy to the newsroom. Even after leaving, Scott still visited his former colleagues at WRAL and treated them like family.
From 1990 until 1993, Scott worked at WESH, an NBC affiliate in Orlando, Florida as a sports reporter and sports anchor. While at WESH, he met ESPN producer Gus Ramsey, who was beginning his own career. Ramsey said of Scott: "You knew the second he walked in the door that it was a pit stop, and that he was gonna be this big star somewhere someday. He went out and did a piece on the rodeo, and he nailed it just like he would nail the NBA Finals for ESPN." He earned first place honors from the Central Florida Press Club for a feature on rodeo.
ESPN
Al Jaffe, ESPN's vice president for talent, brought Scott to ESPN2 because they were looking for sportscasters who might appeal to a younger audience. Scott became one of the few African-American personalities who was not a former professional athlete. His first ESPN assignments were for SportsSmash, a short sportscast twice an hour on ESPN2's SportsNight program. After Keith Olbermann left SportsNight for ESPN's SportsCenter, Scott took his place in the anchor chair at SportsNight. After this, Scott was a regular on SportsCenter. At SportsCenter, Scott was frequently teamed with fellow anchors Steve Levy, Kenny Mayne, Dan Patrick, and most notably, Rich Eisen. Scott was a regular in the This is SportsCenter commercials.
In 2002, Scott was named studio host for the NBA on ESPN. He became lead host in 2008, when he also began at ABC in the same capacity for its NBA coverage, which included the NBA Finals. Additionally, Scott anchored SportsCenter's prime-time coverage from the site of NBA post-season games. From 1997 until 2014, he covered the league's finals. During the 1997 and 1998 NBA Finals, Scott did one-on-one interviews with Michael Jordan. When Monday Night Football moved to ESPN in 2006, Scott hosted on-site coverage, including Monday Night Countdown and post-game SportsCenter coverage. Scott previously appeared on NFL Primetime during the 1997 season, Monday Night Countdown from 2002 to 2005, and Sunday NFL Countdown from 1999 to 2001. Scott also covered the MLB playoffs and NCAA Final Four in 1995 for ESPN.
Scott appeared in each issue of ESPN the Magazine, with his Holla column. During his work at ESPN, he also interviewed Tiger Woods, Sammy Sosa, President Bill Clinton and President Barack Obama during the 2008 presidential campaign. As a part of the interview with President Barack Obama, Scott played in a one-on-one basketball game with the President. In 2004, per the request of U.S. troops, Scott and fellow SportsCenter co-anchors hosted a week of programs originating from Kuwait for ESPN's SportsCenter: Salute the Troops. He hosted a number of ESPN game and reality shows, including Stump the Schwab, Teammates, and Dream Job, and hosted David Blaine's Drowned Alive special. He hosted a special and only broadcast episode of America's Funniest Home Videos called AFV: The Sports Edition.
Style
While there were already successful African-American sportscasters, Scott blended hip-hop culture and sports in a way that had never been seen before on television. He talked in the same manner as fans would at home. ESPN director of news Vince Doria told ABC: "But Stuart spoke a much different language ... that appealed to a young demographic, particularly a young African-American demographic." Michael Wilbon wrote that Scott allowed his personality to infuse the coverage and his emotion to pour out.
Scott also integrated pop culture references into his reports. One commentator remembered his style: "he could go from evoking a Baptist preacher riffing during Sunday morning service ('Can I get a witness from the congregation?!'), to quoting Public Enemy frontman Chuck D ('Hear the drummer get WICKED!') In 1999, he was parodied on Saturday Night Live by Tim Meadows. Scott appeared in music videos with the rappers LL Cool J and Luke, and he was cited in "3 Peat", a Lil Wayne song that included the line: "Yeah, I got game like Stuart Scott, fresh out the ESPN shop." In a 2002 segment of NPR's On the Media, Scott revealed one approach to his anchoring duties: "Writing is better if it's kept simple. Every sentence doesn't need to have perfect noun/verb agreement. I've said 'ain't' on the air. Because I sometimes use 'ain't' when I'm talking."
As a result of his unique style, Scott and ESPN received a lot of hate mail from people who resented his color, his hip-hop style, or his generation. In a 2003 USA Today survey, Scott finished first in the question of which anchor should be voted off SportsCenter, but he also was second to Dan Patrick in the 'definitely keep him' voting. Jason Whitlock criticized Scott's use of Jay-Z's alternate nickname, "Jigga", at halftime of Monday Night Football as ridiculous and offensive. Scott never changed his style and ESPN stuck with him.

Scott became well known for his use of catch phrases, following in the SportsCenter tradition begun by Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann. He popularized the phrase booyah, which spread from sports into mainstream culture. Some of the catchphrases included:
"Boo-Yah!"
"Hallah"
"As cool as the other side of the pillow"
"He must be the bus driver cuz he was takin' him to school."
"Holla at a playa when you see him in the street!"
"Just call him butter 'cause he's on a roll"
"They Call Him the Windex Man 'Cause He's Always Cleaning the Glass"
"You Ain't Gotta Go Home, But You Gotta Get The Heck Outta Here."
"He Treats Him Like a Dog. Sit. Stay."
"And the Lord said you got to rise Up!"
"Make All the Kinfolk Proud ... Pookie, Ray Ray and Moesha"
"It's Your World, Kid ... The Rest of Us Are Still Paying Rent"
"Can I Get a Witness From the Congregation?"
"Doing It, Doing It, Doing It Well"
"See ... What Had Happened Was"
Legacy
ESPN president John Skipper said Scott's flair and style, which he used to talk about the athletes he was covering, "changed everything." Fellow ESPN Anchor, Stan Verrett, said he was a trailblazer: "not only because he was black – obviously black – but because of his style, his demeanor, his presentation. He did not shy away from the fact that he was a black man, and that allowed the rest of us who came along to just be ourselves." He became a role model for African-American sports journalists.
Personal life
Scott was married to Kimberly Scott from 1993 to 2007. They had two daughters together, Taelor and Sydni. Scott lived in Avon, Connecticut. At the time of his death, Scott was in a relationship with Kristin Spodobalski. During his Jimmy V Award speech, he told his teenage daughters: "Taelor and Sydni, I love you guys more than I will ever be able to express. You two are my heartbeat. I am standing on this stage here tonight because of you."
Eye injury
Scott was injured when he was hit in the face by a football during a New York Jets mini-camp on April 3, 2002, while filming a special for ESPN, a blow which damaged his cornea. He received surgery but afterwards suffered from ptosis, or drooping of the eyelid.
Appendectomy and cancer
After leaving Connecticut on a Sunday morning in 2007 for Monday Night Football in Pittsburgh, Scott had a stomachache. After the stomachache worsened, he went to the hospital instead of the game and later had his appendix removed. After testing the appendix, doctors learned that he had cancer. Two days later, he had surgery in New York that removed part of his colon and some of his lymph nodes near the appendix. After the surgery, they recommended preventive chemotherapy. By December, Scott—while undergoing chemotherapy—hosted Friday night ESPN NBA coverage and led the coverage of ABC's NBA Christmas Day studio show. Scott worked out while undergoing chemotherapy. Scott said of his experience with cancer at the time: "One of the coolest things about having cancer, and I know that sounds like an oxymoron, is meeting other people who've had to fight it. You have a bond. It's like a fraternity or sorority." When Scott returned to work and people knew of his cancer diagnosis, the well-wishers felt overbearing for him as he just wanted to talk about sports, not cancer.
The cancer returned in 2011, but it eventually went back into remission. He was again diagnosed with cancer on January 14, 2013. After chemo, Scott would do mixed martial arts and/or a P90X workout regimen. By 2014, he had undergone 58 infusions of chemotherapy and switched to chemotherapy pills. Scott also went under radiation and multiple surgeries as a part of his cancer treatment. Scott never wanted to know what stage of cancer he was in.
Jimmy V Award
On July 16, 2014, Scott was honored at the ESPY Awards, with the Jimmy V Award for his ongoing battle against cancer. He shared that he had 4 surgeries in 7 days in the week prior to his appearance, when he was suffering from liver complications and kidney failure. Scott told the audience, "When you die, it does not mean that you lose to cancer. You beat cancer by how you live, why you live, and in the manner in which you live." At the ESPYs, a video was also shown that included scenes of Scott from a clinic room at Johns Hopkins Hospital and other scenes from Scott's life fighting cancer. Scott ended the speech by calling his daughter up to the stage for a hug, "because I need one," and telling the audience to "have a great rest of your night, have a great rest of your life."
Death
On the morning of January 4, 2015, Scott died of cancer in his home in Avon, Connecticut, at the age of 49.
Tributes
ESPN announced: "Stuart Scott, a dedicated family man and one of ESPN's signature SportsCenter anchors, has died after a courageous and inspiring battle with cancer. He was 49." ESPN released a video obituary of Scott. Sports Illustrated called ESPN's video obituary a beautiful and moving tribute to a man who died "at the too-damn-young age of 49." Barack Obama paid tribute to Scott, saying:
I will miss Stuart Scott. Twenty years ago, Stuart helped usher in a new way to talk about our favorite teams and the day's best plays. For much of those twenty years, public service and campaigns have kept me from my family – but wherever I went, I could flip on the TV and Stu and his colleagues on SportsCenter were there. Over the years, he entertained us, and in the end, he inspired us – with courage and love. Michelle and I offer our thoughts and prayers to his family, friends, and colleagues.
A number of National Basketball Association athletes—current and former—paid tribute to Scott, including Stephen Curry, Carmelo Anthony, Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Jason Collins, Shaquille O'Neal, Magic Johnson, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Bruce Bowen, Dennis Rodman, James Worthy and others. A number of golfers paid tribute to Scott: Tiger Woods, Gary Player, David Duval, Lee Westwood, Blair O'Neal, Jane Park and others. Other athletes paid tribute including Robert Griffin III, Russell Wilson, Jon Lester, Lance Armstrong, Barry Sanders, J. J. Watt, David Ortiz and Sheryl Swoopes. UNC basketball coach Roy Williams called him a "hero." Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians said: "We lost a football game but we lost more this morning. I think one of the best members of the media I've ever dealt with, Stuart Scott, passed away."
Colleagues Hannah Storm and Rich Eisen gave on-air remembrances of Scott. On SportsCenter, Scott Van Pelt and Steve Levy said farewell to Scott and left a chair empty in his honor. Tom Jackson, Cris Carter, Chris Berman, Mike Ditka and Keyshawn Johnson from NFL Countdown shared their memories of Scott.
During Ernie Johnson, Jr.'s acceptance speech for his 2015 Sports Emmy Award for Best Studio Host, he gave his award to Scott's daughters, saying it "belongs with Stuart Scott". At the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards and at the 2015 ESPY Awards, Scott was included in the "in memoriam" segment, a rare honor for a sports broadcaster.

The Jordan XI: The Greatest Sneaker of All-Time
This Saturday, May 26th, the Jordan XI Cap and Gown drops for the first time for the general public. It will be the latest edition to the lineage of the Jordan XI’s which has become one of the most popular and sought after silhouettes in not only the Jordan line, but of ALL sneakers. So the big question is why? Of course there are many reasons why the Jordan XI may be the king of the sneaker world, but we will start with where the shoe itself started.
The first time that Michael Jordan ever wore the XI’s in game was in the 1995 Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Orlando Magic. This was after Jordan had returned from his stint in baseball and all eyes were on him. Fans watched in awe as Jordan ran up and down the court in the Concord XI’s, with black patent leather by the outsoles and a fine white ballistic mesh on the upper and of course a 45 stitched into the heel. However, Jordan and the Bulls stay in the playoffs would be cut short; however, this was far from the last time the world would see the XI’s in action. The Jordan XI’s design in itself is extraordinary. When legendary sneaker designer Tinker Hatfield was in the process of making Jordan’s new model he watched film to evaluate how MJ played and how he could help his game with a shoe to compliment his style. He noticed MJ’s foot would slide off the soles of his shoes when making hard cuts, so to help with this he added patent leather, a first for a performance sneaker, along with a padded collar and tongue for extra support and comfort. He also replaced the common plastic shank plate with carbon fiber, another first, which when sitting in the translucent- “frosty”- outsole along with the full Air Sole unit gave MJ extra bounce to compliment his already absurd athleticism. Jordan would go on to wear the XI during the 1995-96 season. This season would cement the Jordan XI in history. MJ and the Bulls would win a then record 72 games, giving one XI colorway its namesake the “72-10’s”. MJ took the silhouette to Hollywood where he wore a black/varsity royal/white colorway in the move Space Jam. The aptly named “Space Jam” XI’s would go on to be worn by MJ in that year’s playoffs and become one of the most popular colorways of all XI’s. During the season’s All-Star game MJ wore an all-white pair of XI’s with light blue accents, later dubbed “Concords” or “Legend Blues”, winning the contest’s MVP for the second time in his 10th appearance. At the onset of the 1996 playoffs MJ debuted the “Bred” colorway, an all-black upper with red outsoles, in a 102-85 whooping of the Miami Heat. He wore this particular colorway for much of the postseason and also earned them the “Playoffs” moniker. Jordan and the Bulls would go on to win the Championship that year, their fourth and first of their second 3-peat, to cement the team as well as the Jordan XI’s in history.
However, this far from the last time that the Jordan XI would have an impact in the world of sneakers. When the XI’s first were made MJ was quoted saying that people would wear them with a tuxedo. This came into fruition only months later when R&B group Boyz II Men each donned a pair of XI’s with their tuxedos at an awards show. This further boosted the popularity of the shoe into mainstream media and the general public by making it a fashion staple as well as a performance sneaker. Even in today’s age, numerous celebrities, such as Drake, Kevin Heart, and DJ Khaled among others, can be seen wearing the same colorway staples that Jordan wore himself during games, as well as ultra-rare iterations of the shoe. One such grail as the “Snakeskins”, which replace the patent leather around the midsole of the shoe with its namesake, are so rare that they are considered priceless. Each year Jordan brand releases several low versions of the shoe, which does not go as far up on the ankle. Some of these follow the same colorways released in the high version that Jordan himself wore. Others such as last years released “UNC” lows, which sports the patent Carolina blue as the patent leather, or the recently released “Cool Gray” lows continue to keep the Jordan XI silhouette at the front of every sneaker heads mind. Besides these low versions of the XI’s and special releases such as the “Pantone” XI’s, an original high-top version of the shoe that is completely covered in Carolina blue from the patent leather to the ballistic mesh upper, and “Cool Gray” XI’s, an original high-top style that is adorned with gray patent leather and a gray suede upper, sneaker lovers have become accustomed to Jordan brand dropping one version of the Jordan XI in the original high-top style each year around Christmas. During the 2016 holiday season Jordan brand announced they would be re-releasing the “Space Jams” for the first time since 2009. This resulted in one of the most successful and lucrative releases in all of Jordan Brand’s and in fact all of sneaker history. This past year sneaker heads were treated by Jordan Brand when they announced that they would be releasing two versions of the coveted Jordan model. These two models would be two completely new iterations of the shoe in never before seen colorways that paid respect to Michael Jordan’s illustrious career itself. One model was dubbed the “Win like 82’s” which featured a game royal patent leather on the mid-sole with a white upper and then a Carolina blue Jumpman logo. This model was made to commemorate MJ’s game and national championship winning shot as a freshman playing for the University of North Carolina in 1982. The second model was named the “Win like 96’s”, completely decked out in all red from the ballistic mesh upper down to the red patent leather. This particular model was named to celebrate the entirety of Michael Jordan’s historic 1996 season, the same season you may recall that the Jordan XI was truly cemented in history.
All of this leads back to the coming release of the Jordan XI “Cap and Gown”. This particular model is entirely decked out in black, both the ballistic mesh and the patent leather, with the classic translucent “icy” sole. This particular release marks a celebration of the Jordan XI itself and the mark it has left on both the sporting world, which continues to be a popular footwear choice for professional and amateur athletes alike, as well as on mainstream popular culture. Whether being worn by Michael Jordan during the heat of competition or on the feet of numerous celebrities, the Jordan XI is an iconic silhouette in the sneaker world and sits atop as the greatest sneaker of all-time.

That’s Weird: The time performance art left Michael Jordan bleeding and covered in watermelon
Tumblr media
There was also a samurai sword involved
Don’t ever be an audience volunteer. No good can come of it. Once I was an audience volunteer at some sort of circus. A clown needed someone to ride a unicycle. I was five. Long story short, I cried in front of everyone.
But fine, maybe you don’t want to take my word for it ,and think you’re braver than me and being an audience volunteer is a-okay. Well … would you take MICHAEL JORDAN’S word for it?! Because I’m pretty sure he and I agree that being an audience volunteer is for idiots.
In 1982 Micahel Jordan was a freshman at UNC. He wasn’t an international mega-star at the time, but locally? In Chapel Hill, he was a newly minted hero after hitting that NCAA championship-winning shot. And being a local celebrity came with perks, like getting to participate in a traveling evangelical prison ministry show.
Jordan played a little ball with the prisoners, was generally an inspiration, then all he had to do was sit back and enjoy the rest of the program. If only that’s what he’d done.
The next act included a guy wearing a black belt. His thing was to slicing a watermelon with a samurai sword as it lay on the stomach of an audience volunteer. This whole act hinges on the audience volunteer. Without them, it’s just a Gallager copycat with a sword instead of a mallet. Who wants that?! “Oh cool, you made less of a mess.”
Somehow Michael Jordan, promising young basketball player, ended up as the volunteer beneath the watermelon. Michael, no! Think! You’re risking your basketball career — and while you don’t yet know how incredible that’s going to be, I’d say any career in any profession isn’t worth risking for this!
What’s the best case scenario? Someone thinks you’re brave? You leave the stage unscathed, while the swordsman soaks up the applause? Some of the watermelon flies into your mouth and it just happens to be ripe and taste good? Not worth it! The worst case scenario is death by evisceration.
The scenario that played out was somewhere in-between.
The swordsman, Mike Cain, raised his weapon and ... didn’t manage to slice all the way through the melon. At this point I imagine Jordan was panicking because it’s clear Cain is not a samurai master who wields his sword with precision. Even the fact that Cain chose to use a watermelon should have been a red flag. The biggest fruit imaginable? Why does Cain need such a huge buffer?
Since he didn’t complete the one thing he was supposed to do, Cain raised the sword again. I’m guessing he overcompensated for his first too-weak hit, because the second blow sliced through the watermelon, and into Jordan. He tore Jordan’s clothes — warm ups from his first international tournament — and left him with a gash that required three stitches.
And! This wasn’t the first time Cain had cut someone during his act! According to his own estimates he “performed the watermelon trick 1,750 times and has cut 16 people.”
I’m sorry, he’s cut 16 people with a sword? That’s assault. Is the only reason he’s not in jail because those 16 people volunteered?! Is that the deal? I’m no lawyer, but that’s my educated (bachelor of arts) guess. Jordan was reportedly more upset about his clothes than his wound, but it still sounds like a pretty bad experience.
To be an audience volunteer is to be a prop in someone else’s glory. Sure, maybe the performer will say “how about a round of applause for our volunteer!” but you’re already back in your seat or on your way to the hospital at that point.
Anyway, I think Michael Jordan and I have made our case: don’t be an audience volunteer.

7 Ways You Can Use Google Trends to Bolster Your SEO Efforts
New Post has been published on https://britishdigitalmarketingnews.com/7-ways-you-can-use-google-trends-to-bolster-your-seo-efforts/
7 Ways You Can Use Google Trends to Bolster Your SEO Efforts
If you bought a fidget spinner last year, you could attract a bigger crowd than a Livestrong bracelet could in the mid-2000’s. But if you bought one today, you’d be a cliche. People would most likely scurry past you, give you a harsh glare, and mentally patronize you for being “so 2017”.
In digital media, this is exactly how your audience feels when you spit out articles about fading trends. If the story isn’t juicy anymore, they won’t care to read it. Plus, they’ll probably categorize you in the same group as their dad — outdated and embarrassing.
Fortunately, marketers have access to a powerful tool that can solve this problem. It’s called Google Trends. And along with providing you with current trends to freshen up your content, it can help you rank for more keywords and boost your organic traffic.
Google Search Trends
Google Trends is a free tool that gauges a query’s relative popularity, which is a single query’s search volume divided by all possible queries’ search volumes, on a scale of zero to 100.
To provide the most accurate relative popularity, Google Trends doesn’t account for repeat searches from the same person over a short period of time. The tool can also show you a query’s search popularity over certain time frames.
Since a query’s search popularity is a relative measurement, it’ll change when the query’s search volume or the total number of Google searches changes.
7 Ways You Can Use Google Trends to Bolster Your SEO Efforts
1. Create and optimize content for seasonal trends.
Seasonal trends are some of the most reliable and consistent topics to cover. They provide a deep bank of articles you can write about each year.
To take advantage of the surge of searches certain keywords will attract, you can create new content or optimize existing content about these topics when their popularity peaks.
But how do you know exactly when your query’s popularity will peak and avoid missing out on a surplus of searches?
If you run a baseball blog, for instance, you know baseball fans treat Opening Day as a sacred holiday. And after plugging the keyword “Opening Day” into Google Trends, you’ll see that its search popularity peaked during the week of March 25 – 31, the week of Opening Day.
With these insights, you’ll know which specific week you should publish Opening Day content.
But if you dive deeper into the Google Trends data and set your time frame as Opening Day week, you’ll see the keyword’s popularity doesn’t peak until March 29, the exact day of Opening Day.
Now, to garner as much organic traffic as possible, you know you should publish your Opening Day content on Opening Day, instead of a few days before or after.
2. Find trending topics to cover.
Covering current events keeps your audience informed. And the more knowledgable your audience is, the better they can do their jobs. They’ll also start relying on you more for their fix of timely stories.
To find trending topics, use Google Trend’s trending search tool. It’ll show you which queries people have searched for the most during the last 24 hours. You can also filter theses stories by category, like Business, Entertainment, Health, Sci/Tech, Sports, and Top Stories.
Since there will be a lot of stories about trending topics, though, you shouldn’t just take the same angle as everyone else. You won’t be able to stand out from the crowd. So try taking a contrarian view on a topic you know most of your competitors will cover with the same point-of-view. Your unique and refreshing spin will attract more of your audience’s attention and earn their clicks.
3. Make sure popularity spikes aren’t skewing a keyword’s search volume.
The problem with monthly search volume is that it calculates the average amount of times people search for a keyword every month. This can be problematic because outliers in data can heavily skew averages.
For instance, in 1985, the average starting salary for a geography major at the University of North Carolina was well over $100,000. Even today, that’d be one of the best starting salaries for any major.
But here’s the thing — Michael Jordan, a geography major at UNC, left the university in 1984 to sign a $1 million per year contract with the Chicago Bulls. If you take Jordan out of the equation in 1985, the average starting salary for geography majors at UNC was actually around $25,000.
Popularity spikes can impact a keyword’s monthly search volume just like Michael Jordan’s lucrative contract affected the average starting salary of a geography major at UNC.
Rebecca Black, for example, who is notorious for uploading one of the most disliked music videos in the history of YouTube, Friday, has a monthly search volume of 1,900.
But if you examine the search popularity of the keyword “Rebecca Black” in Google Trends, you’ll see that a huge popularity spike in early June has actually skewed the keyword’s monthly search volume. The current amount of people searching for Rebecca Black each month is probably much lower than 1,900.
In June of 2018, Rebecca Black competed on Fox’s The Four: Battle for Stardom. After keeping a low profile for seven years, her unexpected appearance on a nationally syndicated show, hosted by musical superstars like Fergie, P-Diddy, Meghan Trainor, and DJ Khaled, naturally prompted the explosion of searches for her name during this short time frame.
But after her elimination, the search popularity for the keyword “Rebecca Black” dropped back down to normal.
Keywords with high monthly searches are more realistic and valuable if their search popularity trend is steady or increasing. With this in mind, if you want to write an article about the current whereabouts of infamous one-hit wonders, Rebecca Black might not be your best subject.
4. Gauge the demand for your product or services in specific regions, cities, and metropolitan areas.
Your product or service won’t appeal to everyone, but if you can target the people whose living situation makes it more of a necessity, you’ll be able to spend your time and resources more efficiently.
For example, if you sell outerwear, checking the popularity of the keyword “winter jackets” in a specific region, city, and metropolitan area over a certain period of time will help you understand which audiences you should target.
And after finding the locations where your keyword is most popular, you can run Google AdWords campaigns in each location or optimize keywords in your content for each audience during times of high demand.
5. Pinpoint the root cause of a dip in organic traffic.
Sometimes, if one of your blog post’s organic traffic drops, it’s not always your content’s fault. The keyword it’s ranking for could’ve lost popularity amongst your audience. To accurately determine what’s causing your post’s organic traffic to slide, Google Trends can paint a clear picture for you.
By plugging the top keywords your post ranks for into Google Trends and checking its popularity trend over time, you’ll know whether you need to update your post or whether your audience lost interest in the keywords.
For instance, if the post’s top keywords’ popularity is steady or increasing, you need to update your post with fresher and more comprehensive information. If the keywords’ popularity is decreasing, your audience lost interest in the overarching topic. In that case, there’s not much you can do to boost your post’s organic traffic.
To learn more about salvaging your Google rankings before it’s too late, check out this blog post written by one of HubSpot’s senior SEO specialists, Aja Frost.
6. Find new, relevant long-tail keywords.
With its related queries feature, Google Trends is not only a keyword research tool but also a tool for developing your entire content strategy. After plugging in your keyword, Google Trends will display the top 20 trending related queries and the 25 most popular related queries.
You can then plug these related keywords into an SEO software, like Ahrefs or SEMrush, to check their keyword difficulty, search volume, and find even more related keywords. Ultimately, this process will help you cover trending and popular topics that can attract a ton of organic traffic.
Trending Related Queries for “Storytelling”
Most Popular Related Queries for “Storytelling”
7. Determine if a topic lends itself better to video.
If a keyword’s popularity on web search dips, it doesn’t necessarily mean you need to scrap it from your entire content mix. A keyword that loses popularity on web search can actually gain popularity on YouTube search.
For instance, if you look at the Google Trends graph for “content marketing”, you’ll see its popularity on Google search has waned over the past year.
But if you plug “content marketing” into Google Trends for YouTube search, you’ll see that its popularity has climbed over the past year.
Only looking at the Google Trends graph for web search might make you think the keyword “content marketing” lost popularity in general, but its popularity just moved from Google to YouTube. In other words, “Content marketing” is still a valuable topic to cover. You should just make a video series about it, instead of writing articles about the topic.

If the keywords' popularity is decreasing, your audience lost interest in the overarching topic. In that case, there’s not much you can do to boost your post’s organic traffic.

Basketball Is... Accessories
My North Carolina knee-high socks, made by For Bare Feet about a decade ago, refused to stay knee-high during the Professors Game a couple of weeks ago. Their elastic is finally wearing out. Instead of continuing to be distracted by them, I decided to make the best of them. I pushed them down, a la Pete Maravich.
Basketball players often make talismans out of their gear. Michael Jordan wore the Tight Shorts Era North Carolina pair he wore in college under his Bulls shorts. This required that his outer shorts be out-sized, hence spawning the Big Shorts Era. (As the story goes...)
Pete Maravich wore the same pair of socks, on the outside of his regular socks, from high school into the pros. After a while, there was not elasticity left in those things, and they bunch around his ankles. It was yet another thing, along with the flowing hair and flashy passes, that made The Pistol stand out on the court. (Interestingly, Pete Maravich would also have been a North Carolina Tar Heel, where his dad was the coach, but hadn’t demonstrated sufficient academic achievement. So, his dad took the head job a LSU, where, apparently, they weren’t as scholastically exclusive as UNC, and The Pistol scored about 3 million points...)
I didn’t suddenly turn into Pistol Pete (or MJ), but I did start playing better, specifically shooting. Also, I continued the recent trend of taking my defenders off the dribble more, leading to lay ups and assists.
I like this outfit, in general. I have had the adidas Crazy somethings for at least five years now. They are light and sturdy. The And 1 jersey and adidas reversible shorts I’ve had for at least a decade. Love them both, too...
