I understand the necessity of multi-factor authentication, but as someone with ADHD so bad I was diagnosed at age 7 in the 1990s despite me being a girl at the time...asking me to pick my Distraction Box back up when I've finally managed to put it down to try and get to work is, uh, not the best thing ever for my ability to get work done. You are requiring Captain Distractosaurus to pick up and look at his Distraction Box in order to do his work. This is the worst possible thing you could ask me to do. Picking up and looking at my Distraction Box and entering a code and waiting for the code to be accepted is so many steps, and in between each one of those steps is an opportunity to get distracted, and I am holding and looking at my Distraction Box for every single one of those steps.

Guess what I was doing when I got distracted and made this post. You'll NEVER guess. Multi-factor authentication is very necessary and I hate it SO MUCH. I'm gonna eat a bug

Good Bye!

This is my last post as Special Collections Graduate Intern. I am now a Master of Fine Arts and I am using this post as an opportunity to share some of my own work.

My Dress, is an accordion-folded artists book printed from four hand carved linoleum blocks. Two blocks on each side of the single sheet, yellow and a deep navy. Conceived of in 2021, published in 2023 as a small boxed edition of 4. This copy will be a part of the UWM Libraries' Special Collections.

The book was a part of my thesis exhibition, In Here, Out There. My exhibition was about the work of 'becoming' queer, work typically done in safe interior spaces, like our homes where we can play and experiment with our how we perform gender. The work of 'becoming' queer involves orienting oneself towards objects that allow you to imagine new possibilities of being. In this book that object is my dress that I carefully select from my closet and pull on over my head, I then joyfully fly through the apartment and the book to the mirror in which I appreciate the work I have done.

I will be staying in Milwaukee; I love this city and have an amazing supportive community here. I will have a studio at the House of RAD and I will be teaching workshops at Anchor Press Paper and Print! Including one on creating a linocut accordion fold book, much like this one. So, keep a look out!

Also, come and see Boyfriend Material, an exhibition of Queer Milwaukee based artists, including myself, curated by artist and curator, LaNia Sproles. Open May 22 – July 15, 2023 at the Brooks Stevens Gallery, located at MIAD, 273 East Erie Street, Milwaukee.

•Yandere ghost that has roamed around the apartment for 100 years. Before all of that with you suddenly buying it regardless of the about it being haunted.

•He misplaces your things ALL THE TIME. The car keys that you just placed on the living room table is now underneath your bed you must’ve forgot you put it there.

•He makes your phone battery die so much faster because of his spiritual energy. You always have a spare charger for when you phone dies.

• He will soon warm up to you and actually liking you to a unhealthy degree. Whenever you have guests over, he will act up by shutting he doors really hard, close all the lights and throw knives at them if they get a little too close.

•Otherwise he’s a very chill dude once you get to know him for reals and start to acknowledge him more often. He will gift you jewellery from the jewellery store that’s right beside your house. Just give this boi lots of love and hugs!!!

Big news: I applied to and got into the Visual Narrative MFA program at the School of Visual Arts in NYC. I'll be starting this summer and I'm really excited!

My decision to go to art school came after many many years of self-reflection and a few acute, major changes in my life. The pandemic made me realize I hated working in publishing and needed to do something different; job searches showed me that artists can actually make money; some casual comic-making classes reminded me that drawing is FUN; I moved across the country with my partner as they follow their dreams; and soon after the move I found out I have cancer! (Don't worry---after my surgery next week I'll be cured.)

That last bit really put everything into perspective. I needed to put myself and my joy first. So I applied to this MFA program that I'd been thinking about for years but never felt ready for. And they love me! Ahh!

The program is about stories and storytelling. I'm gonna be making comics and animation and other things I don't even know about yet. I'm gonna be an artist, mom!

快慶作・弥勒菩薩立像 （ボストン美術館蔵）

現存する快慶作の仏像の中で最も古い作品、弥勒菩薩立像。

１１８９年（鎌倉時代）作、ヒノキ造・水晶玉眼入。

片肘を膝に乗せ、アルカイックスマイルで思索にふける有名な広隆寺の仏像とはまったく違うスタイルで蓮華の上に立つ弥勒菩薩。

体内からは快慶による「宝篋印陀羅尼」と弥勒三部経のひとつ「弥勒上生経」が見つかっています。

１９０６年まで、奈良の興福寺に安置されていましたが、当時、文化的知識・教養が皆無の薩摩・長州人によって行われた廃仏毀釈により、興福寺にあった仏像・仏具・寺院の多く（その数２千以上）が、破壊・略奪されました。

「快慶デビュー作ともいえるこの仏像だけは何としても守りたい」そう考えた興福寺は、この仏像の未来を日本文化財保護の祖・岡倉天心の手に委ねました。

１５歳でフェノロサに出会い、英語と古美術鑑定の技術を徹底的に叩き込まれていた岡倉は、この仏像の重要性と希少性はフェノロサ以上にわかっていました。

難を逃れ、ボストン美術館の東洋部長になっていた岡倉天心と共に海を渡った快慶の処女作・弥勒菩薩立像。

日本にあれば超一級の国宝になっていたことは間違いないでしょう。
