Figure-Rise Amplified MetalGreymon Alteros Mode
Hey! Welcome to week one of MetalGreyMonth. The month where I talk about MetalGreymon for four weeks >_> Anyway-
I have mixed feeling about this kit, especially with the announcement of Paildramon. On one hand, we already have WarGreymon, we already have Imperialdramon, we already have two Omegamons, the idea of doubling down so hard on S1 and to a degree S2 feels wrong, especially when we have several seasons we haven't touched. On the other hand, WarGreymon is the weakest kit in the line, and MetalGreymon, even if it isn't this version, made my top 10 list twice, so its not an unwelcome addition, even for me personally. Spoilers, I bought 3 of these. You'll see why later.
The Good: This is such a great build. It has great parts layering, a lot of interesting parts usage, multiple build options that you can swap around, the mouth uses a translucent red piece over a white tongue and teeth to give it a real wet and organic feeling, the tail is the best version of the wire tail they've tried so far, the wings are this beautiful and reflective plastic sticker. It's fantastic; probably my favorite kit in the line.
Tumblr media
The Bad: Uh... the hips sometime dislodge and you have to push them back in? The neck could have had a little better left and right? I'm really just nitpicking, there is very little wrong with this kit. Like, the only thing I could think to make it better would be if you could store the Giga Blasters in the chest.
The Details: So I mixed up the panel lining slightly with this one. While all the metal pieces use metallic red panel lining, as has become the norm with the Digimon Amplified kits and me, I also used black panel lining on the organic parts. There were also a number of soft scale details, which I made more apparent using black panel lining as well.
As for colors, I replaced all the non-plastic stickers. There's metallic green on the front horn, eyes, chest, and railgun, different blues on the eye flesh and horns, metallic red inside the shoulder pads, black inside the neck and on the railgun, and silver around the hip joints, on the knees, by the feet, and for the Giga Blasters' teeth. And there's probably more that I'm forgetting, too.
Overall, this is a fantastic kit. Nothing bad to say, a lot of great build elements, and a fantastic final build. But, as I said, we're not done with MetalGreymon yet. I did say I bought three of this kit, after all...

New modes on this episode
What I want to know, is why nobody said anything when the Alteros and Saggitarius modes appeared?? I mean, perhaps they had other things on their minds, but Weregarurumon literally became bigger and wings grew in his back, and Metalgreymon got another metal arm?? which now can open vertically????? IZZY WHAT HAPPENED!

Digimon Adventure: 2020 – Episode 22: The Unbeatable Blue Sagittarius (Review)
Thoughts on the twenty-second episode of the Digimon Adventure reboot series.
This was objectively a pretty decent episode. But I didn’t like it as much as I should have, because I found myself rolling my eyes at Takeru a lot, lol.
Oh, Takeru is psychic! Well, he’s telepathically linked to a feather. New OTP alert! :P
Now that Takeru is actually saying more than two words, I really don’t like his new voice. It sounds too much like a little girl. And Patamon. And I just don’t like it. I don’t find Takeru as adorable as I did, back when he never spoke, lol.
It was nice that Gabumon had a moment to tell Takeru that he’d protect him until Takeru got his partner digimon . . . but of course you would? :P If you didn’t, you wouldn’t be a good digimon, Blue Sir.
I actually don’t like this version of Takeru shown here and the last episode. He’s way too brave (and it’s not believable). He’s just super brave . . . at eight. Actually, I could argue that every one of the kids has the Crest of Courage, lol. Taichi, your position is now redundant, so be afraid. XD;
Sora’s profile picture for text messages is a vase with flowers. How cute!
Just lol at the copies of the people going into the elevator . . . are the animators really that lazy/poor? Also, if you think that was way too many people to actually fit into an elevator, you need to see commuters being squished into trains in Tokyo. XD;
The fight scenes in this episode were pretty good though. Props.
DarkKnightmon looks cool. I can totally see the full-on Digimon nerds loving this episode just because of him. :P
That shot of WereGarurumon looking down at Takeru as he saves him actually looks like he’s about to attack him, lol. What a great animated expression there. /s
Takeru jumping off DarkKnightmon to fall quite a distance to a floating block is just utterly ridiculous. Compare this insanely brave, acrobatic Takeru to the OG Takeru who tripped over a rock or something, and had Taichi help pick him back up . . . and that trip wasn’t even a life-threatening moment. This is! NO, REBOOT, NO.
Takeru should have died a hundred times over in this episode and the previous one. You will not convince me otherwise.
Gomamon and Palmon’s reactions to Jou and Mimi arriving were adorbs.
There is just no way Takeru (and Yamato) could hold themselves up by the strength of their legs . . . they would totally fall into the miasma at that angle. I know, I know, if I wanted realistic situations, I shouldn’t count on Adventure 2020. It just looked so awkward though! :P
Yamato to Takeru: “If it could’ve been helped, I’d rather not have dragged you into this.” Cute. But was it worth the entire floating block/miasma scenario to have this moment? No. The whole thing was silly.
Again, Yamato obviously benches. And so does Takeru. XD;
It was a nice change for WereGarurumon - and not his partner - to be responsible for the new evolution. And WereGarurumon: Sagittarius Mode looks a lot cooler than MetalGreymon: Alteros Mode. How dare Toei!
Poyomon! Thank god that was a fast rebirth and they won’t be dragging it out. :P
So, we are now officially one-third of the way through the series - if the 66-episode run is indeed true.
But I think the series started off stronger than where it is now . . . I enjoyed the first few Omegamon episodes a lot, and episode 8 was excellent, as was episode 16. And I thoroughly enjoyed all the Sorato episodes because I’m biased.
But Toei really needs to get the kids back together soon, because the trio of Taichi-Yamato-Takeru isn’t cutting it for me. I want my gang back together!

Digimon Adventure 2020, episode 23 reaction (and over-analysis)
It’s... weird. Half of it is a battle scene that is clearly just marking time for the actual relevant one next episode, and the other half is emphasizing the importance of the B-Team, except it’s just “I must save my friends”, instead of anything more revealing about their characterization. All in all, it’s episode 17, but not as good.
Let’s start with the battle with Devimon/NeoDevimon, since that’s basically most of the episode. It starts with Devimon surprising them by being capable of attacking at a distance without them noticing where the attacks are coming from. It’s appropiately menacing, although it starts to feel too static very fast. After 2 episodes of high-octane action with great tactics from the digimon, this fell a bit flat. After that, he evolves, and the dynamics of the fight are almost exactly the same, except instead of the interesting “action at a distance because of miasma” attack, it’s just NeoDevimon moving fast enough that he looks like he is teleporting (shown in the episode by having NeoDevimon be in one place in a shot and then in another place in the next one). All in all, it was sort of forgettable, which would be understandable because obviously they can’t maintain the high level of the previous 3 ones due to budget constraints and other things, but it still felt weird that they would choose to have their less frenetic episode be a full-episode fight scene.
Devimon himself was interesting, though. He once again refers to Poyomon as “his old friend” and states he wants to share his pain with them. While I don’t expect this to be explored for him, I do think it’ll be expanded upon by future villains. The ominous crystal (that, confirming a theory I had discarded as wishful thinking, turned out to be MOON MILLENNIUMMON OF ALL DIGIMON!) ends up seemingly controlling Devimon, distorting his voice, making him go through a painful looking evolution (and Taichi notes something has changed, something apart from just evolving). When DarkKnightmon later shows up (he’s alive!) and recovers the crystal before making NeoDevimon evolve again, you realize the villain dynamics may be far different from what we had expected until now. Devimon was not the big bad, or even the boss of the previous digimon, but just another pawn of MoonMillenniummon, no more relevant than SkullKnightmon.
The A-Team... wasn’t quite as interesting this episode. We get some more dynamics between Yamato and Takeru: Yamato tells Takeru to hide, Takeru obeys until he realizes his brother is in serious danger, he tries to do something, when miraculously he succeeds Yamato congratulates him with no explicit lingering worry. Since this time around Takeru was not as suicidal as last episode, it’s a nice enough dynamic. What fell flat was Poyomon evolving to Tokomon and dissolving the miasma. Takeru screaming for the villain to stop before a miracle happens was already done, and much better, on episode 20. We never got to see much of Poyomon, so his evolution didn’t really ellicit any reaction (not even shock, since we’ve already seen a lot of miraculous stuff surrounding the Holy Digimon this season). About the only interesting things with Tokomon this episode were his smile when seeing NeoDevimon slowly vanish (”that’s for torturing me, you big meanie!”), and him being blown away from Takeru’s arms (the best bit of comedy in the episode). Taichi got.. er... observational skills, athletic skills and a burst of determination that felt vastly underwhelming compared to what he did 2 episodes ago.
As far as the B-Team goes, we saw Mimi be the first one to take action when being told what Calamaramon’s plan may be, Koushiro getting an internal monologue about how he believes he is helping his friends, and Jou and Ikkakumon getting humiliated for comedy (Kabuterimon was similarly defeated while attempting a rescue, but it wasn’t as focused on). All in all, functional stuff. Honestly, I was more drawn to the brief scenes with the ship crew trying to remain calm while realizing they were about to crash into the city (which was Singapore, not Tokyo as I thought last week). The tension there felt thicker than in the rest of the episode.
Other notes for this episode:
I was very weirded out when Devimon’s mouth didn’t move whenever he spoke, specially since he did move his lips at other points. Made him feel off, alien, which is great for this series.
Someone as big as MetalGreymon trying to hide behind the ruins of the castle was a bit silly.
We saw intereference in the communications between the Chosen Children through the digivice. Perhaps this is because of the massive ammount of data moving from the human world to the digital world?
We got the consecutive evolution sequences back. Can’t say I’ve missed them. Can’t say I’ll miss them if they never appear again after this episode.
Whoever is piloting that boat must be the GOAT to be capable of steering it that fast.
Sagittarious Mode appeared for only a second, just for one attack, after a massive burst of the Power of Feelings with a Holy Digimon at his side. It’s a great justification for why Alteros Mode didn’t appear last episode.
DarkKnightmon does not attack the Chosen Children, even though we know he is perfectly capable of fighting a fresh MetalGreymon and WereGarurumon without any issue, let alone exhausted ones. The Holy Digimon, even when in Baby form, are dangerous enough even one of the most powerful and skilled villains yet would rather run away.
No, Koushiro, I beg of you, please don’t enable the belief that “natural lines” are the norm in Digimon. Please.
All in all, a functional episode that raises a couple interesting questions. Next week we are going to see a new Ultimate form for Devimon (which looks very silly to me), Taichi getting corrupted by Darkness, MetalGreymon maybe evolving to Mugendramon, Tokomon most likely evolving to Patamon and perhaps even WarGreymon as a cliffhanger. Exciting stuff.

All I wanted for my birthday was a Sora appearance in today’s reboot episode
Episode 29 Spoilers under the cut. Mostly flailing.
I’m also asking for a Tailmon appearance (or one of her line) for Christmas. I don’t mind a late Christmas present. This does not count the ED.
She totally swooped in to save Taichi’s butt before BUT OH MY GOD I DID NOT EXPECT IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN.
At first I was like “aah, yay! She showed up with Birdramon at the beginning! Yaaaay!” and then “okay, that was Kizuna length I need more than this.”
And then she showed up like one, two more times, and she was hinting at where she and Birdramon were headed. I was ready to just stop counting.
Then it got to the point in The Yagami Show where Taichi and Metalgreymon were outnumbered. What was going to happen next? Go Alteros Mode? A new evolution? No, because the title didn’t mention anything. What else could they pull?
I WAS SO HAPPY TO SEE SORA AND GARUDAMON SAVE THE DAY. BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER.
I’m probably going to complain about these last minute saves when I calm down but guys I am really excited to see really cool Sora/Garudamon action shots AND to see the Taiora duo together again. <3

MetalGreymon Alteros Mode! Episode 21

Few things;
One: MetalGreymon's new mode is so freaking cool! I didn't except new modes for the digimon's but hell, I'm all for it! (It's called Alteros Mode btw)
Two; Takeru said a complete sentence. How nice
Three; I loved seeing the families. Especially how Shin (or Shuu, grew up with Jim) just assumed that worst of his brother by packing up an run-away bag.
Four; WereGarurumon is getting wings next week, which could be very useful for him since he's small and has been riding on MetalGreymon this entire time
Five; I feel like Takeru is going to make friends with every digimon he crosses path with

Digimon Adventure: 2020 – Episode 21: The Tide-Turning Update (Review)
Thoughts on the twenty-first episode of the Digimon Adventure reboot series.
Meh. This episode was a huge let-down from last week’s episode. Nothing much happened, really . . .
It opens up with Yamato standing in front of Takeru, with his arm out to protect him from SkullKnightmon. It instantly reminded me of Yamato doing the same for Sora in tri., lol. Just me? OK. :P
Takeru and Yamato’s exchange as they ride on Garurumon with Taichi: Takeru: “Um, Onii-chan?” Yamato: “Not now, Takeru. We’ll talk later.” Takeru: “OK! *smiles*” OK, you got me reboot, you set up later conflict between them well. Yamato is already dismissive of Takeru and . . . why? Just let him talk, you just reunited! You ain’t got anything else to do as you ride Garurumon. :P
Takeru: “The Holy Digimon escaped this place to save us, and gave everything for us.” That’s nice . . . but should an eight-year-old who just joined the team/adventure have this insight? I think no. It seemed odd to me that he said it. I guess he must’ve had some connection to Angemon . . . but it would’ve been nice for the reboot to show us more of it. Takeru is a very “new” character at the moment, and this episode doesn’t flesh him out much at all.
Splashmon (Darkness Mode 2) is a thing? He looks like a huge melted Gabumon crossed with a polar bear . . . with a tennis ball tail, lol. I can’t believe no one in-universe commented on his resemblance to Gabumon. I hope the English dub does, haha. Gabumon: “It’s me after an entire day eating out in the Sun.”
I really don’t know why Takeru saw a giant hole in the ground and decided to go down it. Yes, it had that miasma mist coming out of it, but . . . he’s an eight-year-old child in a brand new world. Is a kid usually this curious and brave? I don’t think so - and I don’t buy it.
It was nice to see Mimi’s mansion and her parents and grandfather. Poor Toshiko Takenouchi had to be blurred last episode (and Yamato’s parents’ heads weren’t in frame a few episodes back!), but Mimi’s parents are fine, lol.
It was also nice to see Jou’s second oldest brother, Shin. It’s still really weird that a kid going missing for three days is not met with more fanfare . . . but it’s nice that Shin is supportive of Jou to (what he thinks) disregard his studying and give him a “runaway pack”. Seeing the kids’ family dynamics is always nice.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Koushirou ends up discovering what their Crests mean and informs the rest of the children/the viewers. I mean, he does everything else! :P
That shot of Palmon with her vines wrapped around Piyomon and Tentomon makes me laugh, haha. But she needs assistance to “fly” in the Network, but Gomamon doesn’t? Weird. Or maybe she’s just lazy like Mimi. XD;
Calamaramon makes me laugh, too. XD; Her name and just her entire design, lol. Imagine her Tinder profile being her female “half” - and then she shows up to the date in squid-form, hahaha.
There is just no way that Takeru wouldn’t have slipped all the way to his death as soon as he started going down that hole. I would have and I’m old AF. :P
Splashmon chomping down on MetalGreymon’s arm was really painful-looking. Nice way to scare the kids, I guess.
Taichi trying to lift Splashmon’s jaw off MetalGreymon is just . . . all sorts of ridiculous. Really? REALLY? They’re going for “Look at how brave and heroic Taichi is!!!” but I’m just like . . . SMH. Splashmon can literally open his mouth AND EAT YOU CHILD. I need more realism in this show ASAP.
So Taichi has a “moment” (that came with no build-up whatsoever, and felt like a ridiculous insert and 100% unearned) and MetalGreymon powers up to . . . MetalGreymon: Alteros Mode. I suspect a number of people who are particularly interested in the actual Digimon aspect of the show just got extreme nerd-boners here - but for me? Nah. I mean, that’s a cool new “arm” and all, I guess, but it doesn’t do much for me and I would have rather they went with SkullGreymon and followed that path. I think it’d be more interesting. :P But hey, we gotta sell new toys!!!
Also, compare Sora getting that frozen-virus on her and Taichi getting the miasma on him . . . I guess Sora just didn’t believe in herself/saving the Digital World enough, unlike Taichi, who just powered through it. Tsk tsk, Sora, go back home please. Oh wait, you did. Stay! Let the boys handle this. :P /s
In the meantime, Takeru has freed a giant tortoise of a fortress, ElDoradimon, and . . . OK? Sure. I WOULD LIKE MORE THAN THIS, REBOOT. But Takeru did fall off ElDoradimon, and Yamato catches him because he has insane reflexes, just like Taichi. They are all superhuman. :P
But Yamato actually praises Takeru for wandering away down a hole to free a giant tortoise - so I’m getting mixed messages here. Is Yamato dismissive/overprotective of Takeru or not? I feel like the reboot should have had Yamato scold Takeru a little here, instead of praise him, if that’s the route they wanted to go down (which I think it is!). Just odd.
I hope the Devimon battle is epic. It needs to be. But I do like how they’ve built him up so far - so here’s to hoping!
Maybe this episode just seemed like a step backwards because last week’s episode was actually quite good? I don’t know. But I remember the quality of episode 8 being so much better, and it gave me high hopes for this series - it showed me that there was at least one competent writer for 2020.
But it’s really looking like their absolute main priority is action over actual characterisation - and that’s unfortunate. It’s the characters that people fall in love with, not just “exciting” action (of which it’s not even that good, lol). So I hope Toei actually listens to criticism and can rework the remaining episodes to focus more on character development - hopefully they aren’t that far ahead in production (and because of COVID, I don’t think they are).

WarGreymon finally made a proper entrance! This was hype but not hype. They didn't struggle with Crossmon as much as they did with MetalTryannomon. Before the fight was sort of soft but then they showed the evolution sequence as it was crazy.
The animators went all out for this. This was probably the reason why they kept on reusing the same clips for Alteros mode. I loved how the crest shined above him and how his Alteros arm and metal claw becomes his new claws and the scene where they show that evolution orb thing, and how it went crazy and it's like it couldn't obtain the amount of power WarGreymon has. For Greymon it was fine, and then for MetalGreymon, it was ripped open and now it exploded!
They don't seem to be showing any other mega digimon's in the next episode, but we might get Hououmon. Probably not though.
