this is broken as hell (link to simulator)
here’s a breakdown of the rules:
with terestallization, the pokemon’s actual type is changed to a mono-type.
however, it retains the STAB of its original typing in addition to a new STAB granted by the tera type. there are different effects depending on if the tera type of the pokemon is the same or different as the original typing.
mono-type pokemon example:
tangrowth is a pure mono Grass type. if its tera type were Grass (the same as its original typing), it will get a x2 STAB instead of x1.5. however, if tangrowth had a tera type different from its original type, say a Rock tera type, it would retain its x1.5 Grass STAB in addition to gaining x1.5 Rock STAB.
dual-type pokemon example:
hatterene is a dual Fairy and Psychic type. if its tera type were Fairy, it would have x2 STAB for Fairy and x1.5 STAB Psychic. likewise, if its tera type was Psychic it would have x2 STAB for Psychic and x1.5 STAB for Fairy. if it had a tera type different from either of its original types, like Electric tera type, it retains both x1.5 STAB for its original types (Fairy and Psychic) in addition to x1.5 STAB for Electric. so it has three x1.5 STAB types.
their weaknesses are the same as the tera type. Rock tangrowth is weak to Rock weaknesses, not Grass ones. Electric hatterene is weak to Electric weaknesses, not Fairy or Psychic ones.
you can see how this can be broken. if the tera type is the same as the original it’s basically free Adaptability.
consider
full hp choice specs tera water kyogre using water spout in drizzle
porygon-z with its base 135 SpA + tera normal + adaptability + choice specs + SpA beneficial nature + 31 SpA IVs + 252 SpA EVs and tri-attack
ice types are going to see more viability because if their tera type is different they will still have ice STAB but not ice’s pitiful defenses
simply the existence of dual ice/ground types with a steel tera type. that’s x1.5 ice, ground, and steel STAB offenses with only steel defenses. like that might even be better than the steel/fairy dual type because ice and ground are the most offensive types in that they hit more types for super effective damage than any other. but it’ll have none of ice’s bullshit defenses. steel mamoswine is going to go CRAZY . it can learn iron head btw . if you even care EDIT: HAS THICK FAT TOO

I love Bede because he's an asshole, he's unapologetically an asshole, but he isn't treated like a lost cause. I always love seeing traumatized characters in fiction who are Jerks. Especially ones who get support and help later on.
Bede is an asshole and mean and rude but it doesn't mean he should be left behind. Say what you will about the destruction of the mural (Bede did destroy a very important part of Stow-On-Side and that is Bad) But I think it is notable that Bede genuinely did think that destroying an important part of a major town to fulfill the Chairman's wishes was a good idea. And also thought battling people for wishing stars was a good idea. I think that says a lot about his relationship with the Chairman and what he thought Rose wanted from him.
I always liked that after Opal, Bede was still, a bit of an ass. First of all the gym challenge takes place over the span of like...3 weeks? A month? Bede's not gonna make a personality flip but you can tell just by how he poses that Bede is happier. The fact he can even Admit His Mistakes in the post-game is notable.
This is the same person who WANTED A DO-OVER IN THE STOW-ON-SIDE BATTLE! Yet Bede is able to grow because he's given support and help.
And again this calls into question the Chairman's relationship with Bede but it proves more importantly that Bede is not a lost cause, and he shouldn't be abandoned. Something he constantly fears happening to him throughout SWSH.
I just...really like Bede's character. It has a lot of a good concepts just poor execution like most of the game really.
(Also I was looking through the Buldapedia quotes page and Bede has a lot of Fascinating Masters EX quotes
Here's one about Opal:
Random conversation
"Sometimes, I find myself thinking about the Ballonlea Stadium in Galar." "I wonder if the stadium's been cleaned and if the Pokémon are being cared for properly while I'm gone." "*sigh* It's not like me to worry about these things."
If spoken to again
"It's because I met Ms. Opal that my life has changed so dramatically." "Do you have anybody like that?" "A person so intense they change your life."
And here's one about the Wishing Star Gathering
Random conversation
"I had some frustrating experiences with my Gym Challenge back in Galar, but that helped me realize something..." "You should be the one to decide how to live your life." "Your own dreams and goals should be the ones you choose yourself. Otherwise, what's the point?"
If spoken to again
"I will walk this path and reach the pinnacle of what Fairy types can do." "This is my goal. I've chosen it with my own will." "I hope that you might also have such a goal."
Again this has Certain Implications about how Bede was treated but yeah fun quotes thank you Masters EX for the character insight)

So me and the boys are trying this new game we found. It’s called Monoploy…
That’s odd. Mono means 1, and Poly means many, so is this like a game of oxymorons?
Will update as time goes on

Clive. My dude. You know you can have more than one favorite color, right? You can say both. It's okay.
Clive: Yes, but both at once feels somehow... incorrect.
That would be like saying both of the professors were down there studying in Area Zero for so many years! Which is... ah... that's true, isn't it? But also, that makes no sense. Since that professor left the other one... And yet, both types of Paradox Pokémon appear here...
Curse the multiverse. I don't even remember which of those was true for me originally! Was it Sada or Turo...? And I swear I had a favorite between orange and purple at some point! Not to even mention that student you all are friends with...
Penny: Come on, old man. We can go over multiverse theory again later.

also i'm still more a ygo nerd than a magic one, but i HAVE been playing more magic lately than ygo and also i see a bunch of people who are new to card games being introduced to things like "why do these people enjoy the game differently than me" so i do think maybe you should be introduced to timmy, johnny, and spike,

.... pkmn eggs and the matrix
so
blame @quicksilverlightning, #1, though i think my specific brand of brainrot is the problem
Today I Learned That
there's a theory about humans laying eggs in pokemon, which, first of all - *drivethru employee reaction*
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and in my bid to rationalize it back to comfy "everything is born via chanseys and thats beautiful"
my brain also supplied:
What the games and shows use the image/concept of Eggs as placeholders?
as in, the egg is 'real' so long as you're in the world's matrix but if you look past/escape it you'd see that you're actually carrying around a big glass tank with, uh, a fetus in it
see i have this pet theory (and i say this as someone who has played exactly one pokemon game) that the pokemon world is a game that knows its a game; but its still "real" to itself -- hence why people diegetically tell you to press x to whatever
and that theory is all wrapped up in the Unown being a magic system but thats for another day
so
if someone in-world were to break out of the matrix, for whatever reason
say, Volo, for example
(@onestepbackwards im lookin at you, though there's no expectation to engage of course)
.... they would be subjected to some pretty horrifying shit, the kind that you see in those hyperrealist pokemon drawings, but also the reality of eggs; the nature of their gods; the actual reality of death; and anything else the matrix has been hiding (for example, how protein is acquired >.>)
..... they'd be pretty fucked up about it, yeah?
maybe want to change it? so fucked up that they'd do just about anything to succeed, and really really really hate the being recognized as the creator of all... that
and... if that creator knew they'd be doing this, it would do a fair few things to stop (him), such as skyfalling a kid to fix things, or even have built in safety measures
like a character that tells that kid how to fix things; a character who recognizes and resents (Volo) for wanting to change things/going against the creator
.... like Cogita?

new pokemon verse tag.
thinking about how kaguya's family probably had a very.... Complicated relationship with the law and government up until relatively recently in the grand scheme of things. They definitely valued their independence, especially when public opinion and governing attitudes towards aura users and the likes (at least, those who weren't affiliated With the government) was rarely ever super positive. sometimes they were ignored by virtue of being relatively harmless and even, you know, helpful. and others... well, a clan of powerful warriors is a blatant threat. Obviously. never mind that they're minding their own business as a group that has not necessarily always been accepted by society.

Interesting how Sada is getting the vast majority of the ‘solo’ bad parent memes (ie meme redraws posts only mentioning one prof etc) whereas people are being more sympathetic towards Turo in comparison.
I mean, it’s not like an absent mother is very different than an absent father, right?

Sometimes I wish my powers came from magic or genetic experimentation or something because let me tell you, guys, it's really hard to divorce yourself from religious imagery when your powers were literally bestowed upon you by a god.
