Synopsis: A small story of how your favorite outlaw unknowingly "bonded" to you.
Tw: Blood
Word Count: 4.1k
Tumblr media
Blood trickled down your arm as it lay limp beside you as you held your shoulder with a staggered stance. You let out a jagged breath as the large creature loomed over your small figure. Holding your gun tightly in your hand, you used the last bit of strength left in you, to raise it, sending a bullet shooting at the attacker. Not being fast enough to dodge it, the bullet hit the attacker's arm and it let out an angry shout in pain. He gripped his gun as he aimed to shoot you in the head. You quickly dodged and rolled passed the bullet, making sure to land on your good shoulder. Staggering to get back up, you ran off to find the others while your attacker followed suit behind you.
You eventually caught a glimpse of Vash's familiar red coat as you made your way toward him and the others following behind him.
"Vash!" You yelled to get his attention as the attacker grew closer to you.
The blonde turned his head in your direction after hearing your call. His ears were soon greeted by the sound of a gunshot echoing out through the town and soon followed by a pained scream from you. Eyes widening in shock, he pulled out his gun quickly, and precisely hit his target, as he shot your attacker's gun from their hand. Wolfwood went to deal with the attacker, letting the cloth that covered "The Punisher" fly off into the distance as he made his way to the attacker.
As Vash made his way to you, he quickly took his jacket off and wrapped it around your limp, shaking figure. He tore a piece of his black turtle neck shirt, as he wrapped it tightly around the bullet wound in your leg. He soon tore another piece off, and he pressed it firmly against the other bullet wound you had in your shoulder. You hissed in pain as he put pressure against your wounds, earning a quiet and fast apology from him.
He gently picked you up, before saying, "Meryl get Wolfwood, we need to get them to a doctor." As he rushed off towards the car with you in his arms.
She nodded at him before calling Wolfwood who had knocked out your attacker, and you all drove off in search of a new town.
Your head ached and your thoughts and vision were blurry. Pain shot throughout your body as you heard the muffled, panicked arguing of the others. Your shoulder and leg ached terribly bad as it shot shooting pain to your head and then down the rest of your body.
"What should we do?! There's no doctor nearby, they probably left during the gunfight!" Meryl yelled.
"Well, what should we do?" Wolfwood cut in as he held a cloth to where the bullet had hit your shoulder.
The others talked about what to do to help you while Vash stayed silent as he urged you to keep your eyes open. He felt his heart sink to his stomach seeing you in this condition. "Hey.. Stay awake for me..!" He said with worry laced in his tone.
You gripped his hand that you didn't even know you had grabbed, in pain. You sucked in a breath as tears left your eyes. "It hurts so much.." You said in between breaths.
He looked down at you concerned before looking up to see another town in a distance. "There! Go that way!" Vash shouted suddenly.
Meryl jerked the car in the direction of the town, as it got harder and harder to keep your eyes open.
"I.. want to sleep.." You said slowly and barely audibly.
"No, no, no, no! Hold on we're almost there!" Vash said quickly as he squeezed your hand tightly.
The car soon came to an abrupt stop as you were soon scooped up by Vash again and brought to a different environment.
"I need a doctor fast! They was shot and lost a lot of blood!" Vash yelled, startling all the other patients there.
A lady walked out from behind the counter quickly, "Come with me!" She said to Vash before checking on you. "Stay awake for me," She said to you as your eyes got heavier and heavier.
Vash brought you to the designated room and was soon ushered out by the other doctors. He stood anxiously behind the door, waiting for them to come out. He waited for what seemed like hours as the others stood close behind him, also worried. He bit his lip anxiously before being startled by the door opening abruptly, and a doctor walking out.
"Ma'am is she okay?!" Vash asked, not sure if he wanted to hear her answer. His heart raced in anticipation.
"They somehow made it. Coming in they didn't look so good, we didn't think they would make it, but they did. It's a miracle if you ask me." The nurse said smiling at the others.
Vash smiled ear to ear hearing the news, "Can we go in and see them?" Vash asked, wanting to see you as soon as possible.
The nurse smiled at them before nodding, "They're asleep right now, but you can go in but probably only one at a time though," The nurse said.
Vash smiled and thanked her before asking the others if they wanted to go in. They all knew he desperately wanted to see you and decided to go and get a hotel set up for you all. He smiled at them as he bid them farewell before entering your room quietly.
His heart raced as he approached you and he sat down in a nearby chair beside your bed. He grabbed your hand delicately, as he pressed his forehead against yours. Soon he was greeted with calmness and the picture of the wind blowing through the trees and flowers. Worried, he pulled back as he looked at his hand that had the small pattern of the marks that appear on him. Yours had the same marks. He gazed at your hands confused as he soon felt your hand squeeze his, weakly. His eyes shot open as he looked in your direction as you slowly opened your eyes.
Letting out a groan of pain, you look around the room, seeing Vash sitting closely beside you with his eyes wide.
"What?" You asked in a raspy voice.
He shook his head before smiling at you, "Nothin," He laughs as he lets go of your hand.
You look at him confused by his actions before your cheeks begin to grow warm. 'Why does he have to smile like that..' you thought.
~
You were soon emitted from the hospitable and Vash was a little protective of you. He was always around you and stayed near you when you went places, which was odd. Although it made you feel happy to think that he might care about you that much. Your heart raced whenever he checked up on you while you were walking, or when he would help you regain the strength in your arm, even when he helped you change your bandages. His actions always flustered you, but they made you happy.
After a while, you were able to regain your strength in your arm and leg, but Vash's actions never stopped. He would still watch over you and offered to carry things for you, making the excuse that he was just trying to be nice. You never questioned it though. Currently, you were walking through a small town, looking for a place to stay the night.
"Hey, Y/n, want me to carry your things?" Vash asked as you both trailed behind the group.
You looked into his radiant eyes, before giving him a small smile, "I'm alright for now, thank you though!" You said.
He nodded at you as you both continued to walk, your hands occasionally brushing the others. Eventually, you had all found a hotel and were going to retreat to each of your own rooms for the night. Getting ready for bed, you changed into some spare clothes you had, along with brushing your teeth and hair quickly. Soon, you were finally able to let out a content sigh as you flopped onto the mattress, the springs creaked with your impact. You layed there happily not caring that the bed wasn't that comfortable. It was better than the ground at least.
Curling up to sleep, you closed your eyes to try to sleep, but sleep never came, much to your dismay. You had been trying to sleep for a while but thoughts flooded your mind. It was currently 2:48 am, and your mind was racing. Annoyed, you eventually sat up and got out of bed before exiting your room quietly. You didn't know where you were going in particular. Walking through the heavy hotel doors, you shivered as the cold hit your skin. You wished you had brought a blanket with you, but also didn't feel like going back to your room.
You walked quietly down the street of the town the sound of your footsteps sounding much louder than in the daytime. Feet treading through the sandy ground, you didn't have anywhere in particular in mind as to where you were going. You just followed the streets as they led you through the town. Eyeing the different signs and advertisements around each store, you were beginning to reach the edge of the town. Feeling a little disappointed that your walk was over, you began to turn around to walk back towards the hotel. It was all the same as it was when you first stepped out, peaceful. The only noises that filled the town were the sound of the breeze blowing through the buildings, and the noise of chirping, from the nearby insects.
As you neared the hotel, you let out a shakey sigh as you pulled open the door to the hotel, and proceeded in, only to see Vash much to your surprise. He was sitting at a small table with a glass of water in his hand as he seemed to be dozing off. 'Why was he down here at this hour?' was all that clouded your mind. Taking quiet steps towards his figure, you looked over him quietly. The moonlight illuminated his blonde locks that fell perfectly around his face. Outstretching your hand cautiously, the back of your hand grazed his cheek gently. He stirred in his sleep as you snapped your hand back quickly. Your heart was beating fast, and you slowly outstretched your hand again, this time tapping him gently on his shoulder. His face contorted as he went to swat your hand away. You persisted as this time, you gently shook his shoulder.
His eyes finally fluttered open, tired and confused, he looked around before seeing your form standing above him, and smiling. He stretched before standing up and towering over you like usual.
"Hey," He rumbled, as his voice was still etched with sleep.
Letting out a small chuckle, you looked up at whispering, "Why are you down here right now?"
He let out an embarrassed laugh as he rested his hand on the nape of his neck, "I came down for a drink but I must have dozed off.." He said quietly.
You nodded as you eyed him up and down. He wasn't in his normal clothes you saw him in a lot of the time. He wore an extremely baggy white shirt, with baggy sweatpants that sat on his hips perfectly. You gulped as you looked him over before looking away from him after he cleared his throat.
"We should head up I guess.." You finally said already starting to make your way back up to your room.
He made a small noise of agreement, as you tried to avoid the areas that creaked on the old stairs. As you finally made it to your room, he stood in the door frame, as you both stood awkwardly in silence.
He was first to slice through the silence as he began, "I uh.. I might have locked my keys in my room.." The tip of his ears began to turn pink at his embarrassment.
A small laugh made its way through your throat, as you opened the door wider for him to come in. "You can sleep in here if you want," You said offering a small smile.
His one of a kind, smile made its way to his lips as he quietly walked in after you. You sat on the bed while he stood there awkwardly. "So how should we work this..?" You mused aloud.
He stayed quiet offering a shrug as you rolled your eyes at his lack of an answer. "Well, You can sleep on the bed with me.. I don't mind," You offered.
A blush made its way to his face as he nodded weakly. Taking a seat beside where you were sitting, you flop back onto the bed carefully, as you got under some of the worn blankets from the bed. Vash soon mimicked your actions as he carefully slid under the blanket. Both looking at each other for a moment, your faces both ruby red. You watched as he gulped, and moved some hair out of his face that blocked his view of you.
"Goodnight.." You whispered quietly as you turned around to face the other way.
He repeated your words before turning around as well. For some reason, you were able to fall asleep instantly. The blankets felt so warm as they were wrapped around your small form, and the bed just seemed 10 times more comfortable than before. Though, you weren't complaining.
You were soon woken up, by the sound of the town resuming its daily activities. The shouts from people selling goods, the chatter below from the bar. Your eyes fluttered open tiredly as you stretched but your hand came into contact with something. Looking to the side of you through your eyelashes, you see blonde tufts of hair scattered around you and a tight grip on your waist. 'Oh it's just Vash,' your mind eased at the thought as you snuggled into his touch more. But then it dawned on you. It was Vash! You shot up quickly as a blush dusted your face as the tip of your ears reddened. He made a small groan after you left before peeking his eyes open to see your hands covering your face.
Sitting up, Vash let out a yawn before saying, "Good morning,"
You replied with a small pathetic squeak of a "good morning" too embarrassed to look at him. He quirked a brow at you as he looked at your hands as they covered your face. Why did they have marks on them..? They had the same marks as his. Confused he grabbed your hand as you let out a confused squeak as he studied your hand which happened to be much smaller than his. As your hand made contact with his, the smarks began to glow and the marks also began to form on his hand.
You eyed what he was doing confused at the marks. "What are these marks?" You asked confused as they pulsed a glow as your hands were in contact with each other.
"Vash? Arent these the marks you get? What's going on?" You asked concerned.
He stayed quiet as he watched your hands as the marks began to spread up your arm.
"Vash! What's happening!?" You said as you ripped your hand away from his. The marks began to slowly disappear from your skin along with his.
He watched in shock, just as confused as you. "We should get this checked out.." Vash uttered.
You looked at him confused before nodding at him. His eyes lingered on your hand a little longer before looking up at you. "I'm sorry.." He whispered.
Looking towards him you smiled before grabbing his hand again, "It's fine, I'm sorry I freaked out like that. I think the marks look cool.." You said trying to make him feel better.
He smiled at you as he slid off the bed and stood. "Let's get changed and I think we should go to a good friend of mine. She can probably help us," He grinned.
"I'll go see if I can get a master key to my room, meet me downstairs in about 30 ish minutes." He said as he began to walk out of your room.
You nodded as he shut your door gently leaving you with your thoughts. You quickly showered before slipping on your gear, and putting your belongings into your backpack. You shrugged your backpack on and began to head down to where you were supposed to meet. Sure enough, you saw Vash's tuft of blonde hair with his red coat making small talk with Wolfwood. You greeted them both with a small smile before you and Vash began to head out. The others decided to stay behind to rest, so it was just you and Vash for right now. You both rented some strange creatures to ride on through the desert.
"We should hopefully make it there by nightfall if things go smoothly," Vash finally said. You nodded at him as you rode beside him.
'Maybe this won't be too bad..' you thought. Riding through the golden desert, you both finally made it to the ruined SEED ship. Your eyes studied the old ship with amazement. As you neared the entrance, you got off of your (creatures?)  and then followed Vash to the entrance. He led you through the large doorway as you looked around in wonder. He took you into a few rooms trying to find the people you were looking for, only to find them in one particular room. It was a geo (pod?). It was beautiful, flowers covered the green grass like a blanket, and the trees stood tall and lush.
"Laida! Brad! Good to see you guys!" Vash chimed as he made his way toward them.
You watched as he made his way toward them and slowly followed behind him. You stood beside Vash quietly, as he talked with the two unknown people.
"Laida, I need your help, something happened between me and my friend here, and we don't understand what's happening," Vash said as he gestured towards you.
Laida looked towards you seeing your small form offer her a small wave.
"Hello.." You uttered out with a small smile.
She smiled and held her hand out for you to shake. You took her gentle hand in yours as she shook it. "Hi there! I'm Laida, what's your name?"
"I'm Y/n!" You said offering her a shy smile.
"Well, nice to meet you Y/n! Oh, and I almost forgot this is Brad, but don't let him scare you, he's really a sweetheart deep down." She said casting him a smirk.
Brad huffed and rolled his eyes at her.
"Well, what can we help you with Vash?" Laida finally began.
"Ah, well.. we were wondering if you could explain this..?" Vash said as he gently grabbed your hand and the marks began to form again.
Laida studied your hands before smiling coyly at Vash, "Come with me you two," She said as she began to walk inside.
You both followed behind her, and Brad followed behind you both. Laida soon came to a stop at one of the doors before entering. Following her, she grabbed a large book and she flipped through the old pages. You both stood there in anticipation waiting for the answer. She made small hums every now and then and then began to smile as she looked up at you both closing the book.
"Vash, did you happen to make a bond with Y/n here?" Laida asked.
Vash looked at her confused, "A bond? I don't know?" the blonde replied.
Laida nodded before saying, "Well then, Vash can you place your forehead on theirs? That is if you are okay with that Y/n" She gestured toward you.
You nodded as she smiled. "Fantastic! Now Vash, place your forehead on theirs and I need both of you to close your eyes, and clear your minds." She instructed.
You both nodded, as Vash gently pressed his forehead to yours, giving you a small smile before closing his eyes, and you yours. Clearing your mind, your body began to feel calm, you were soon brought to completely still water that you were standing on top of. Not a single ripple or wave, just tranquility. Looking around in the large pool of water you stood on, you were soon brought to a field of flowers, seeing Vash's red coat in the distance.
Being brought back to reality by Vash pulling away, your eyes fluttered open as Vash made eye contact with you before looking at Laida. You looked at his face as the marks had appeared on his, and his eyes widened seeing yours, probably meaning you had them too.
Laida smiled at you both before chirping, "You both have a bond!"
Vash and you looked at her confused and she cleared her throat before beginning again.
"What I have found, is that PLANT's like Vash, in simpler terms, would form a bond with someone they considered a "mate" to breed with," Laida paused, "So in a way, Vash must have formed a bond with you, and since you are human, the process of this bond is acting odd since you are both different species." She continued.
"That doesn't explain the marks though.." Vash said quietly.
"Well it does in a way, if I am correct, this bond is somewhat, making Y/n here, into a plant, so they will most likely be half human half plant after this, I do not know the side effects, but I don't think it will harm you in any way," Laida confirmed.
You stood shocked, and your hand somehow made its way to Vash's. Your face was stained red with blush and your heart beat fast.
"Why don't you both stay here the night?" Laida said trying to ease the tension.
Vash nodded at her as a blush coated his face as well. She began to lead you both to a room you could both stay in and gently shut the door behind her. You both stood near each other trying to form words about the information you had just learned.
You finally began to say something, "So uhm.. were bonded now..?" You said looking at Vash hesitantly.
He looks at you through his lashes, "I'm sorry if you didn't want to be bonded to me.. I didn't even know this could happen until now.."  Vash said placing his metallic hand on the nape of his neck awkwardly.
You grabbed his flesh hand gently before saying, "I don't mind being bonded to you Vash.." Looking away from him.
His eyes widen as he lets a small shy chuckle leave his lips, "I don't mind either." He said offering you a smile.
Looking up at him, you smile at him feeling him squeeze your hand gently. "So uh, should we restart this and I guess confess..?" Vash said as his cheeks went red.
You nodded at him as he sucked in a breath. "Well, Y/n I really like you, you're fun to be around, you're kind, and you stay around me even though it's extremely dangerous, I love everything about you.." Vash confessed and his face almost rivaled his jacket.
You smiled at him as your face got warm and your heart was about to explode, "I really like you as well Vash, you're so loving and caring to others, and your personality is golden, I love everything about you no matter what, and I'm glad that were bonded together.." You admitted.
A smile formed on both of your faces as you looked at each other lovingly. Vash gently pressed his forehead to yours as you both looked at each other with half-lidded eyes. Your body felt a wave of calmness flush through your system, as you both stayed in that position. You watched as his gaze made its way to your lips before coming back up to look at you for permission. You smiled at him before pressing your lips against his. He tensed at the impact but melted into it quickly feeling the love and affection poured into your kiss. You both soon pulled away gasping for air and hugged each other happily.
"Being bonded to you won't be so bad," you said with a small chuckle as you pulled away and looked up at him. He smiled again at you, before pressing his lips to yours again.
"I guess your right, Y/n.."

it was all just a freak accident.
a stray bullet, one hell of a mistake.
you were supposed to be hiding, just as you had promised you'd do whenever a fight breaks out. you were supposed to be far away, waiting for vash to come find you when everything died down.
yet there you were, eyes wide as you clutch your stomach and gasp out his name. vash's words get caught in his throat as you drop to your knees, red seeping through your top at an alarming rate. he hurried to your side, laying you down gently as he helped apply pressure to your wound with his hand over yours.
"you — (name), what —" vash couldn't find the words as he looked to meryl desperately.
"vash," you said softly, drawing his gaze back to you. you gave him a soft smile, reaching up and wiping at the hot tears that rolled down his cheeks.
"no, no, no, don't," vash choked out, the hand on your wound shaking as his other hand cradled the back of your head. "y-you're going to be fine, (name). everything's gonna be —" he took a deep breath, " — gonna be fine. just hold on, okay?"
your smile became one of pity, already having accepted your fate. the world around you was silenced, save for vash's quiet sniffling.
"it's not your fault, vash," you murmured, cupping his cheek and rubbing his cheekbone tenderly with your thumb. "i'm sorry i broke our promise."
"stop talking like that," vash begged, pressing his forehead to yours. "please, (name). i — i can't lose you. this life. . . i need you with me. just hold on, we'll get you help."
you sighed at his desperation, his need for optimism trying to shine through despite the dire situation. vash's tears dripped from his face to yours as his body shook with silent sobs.
"vash —"
"please don't go, (name)," vash interrupted. "i love you. i can't imagine going through this life without you. i beg of you, stay with me."
you couldn't tell if it was the blood loss or the confession that was just dropped on you but time seemed to come to a halt. you stared off, completely losing focus. the next thing you know, vash is being pulled off you and you're being carted off somewhere. with your mind reeling, the world around you goes dark.
you come to hours later, finding yourself propped up in a soft bed and surrounded by your friends. meryl and vash both perked up when they noticed you stir, vash at your side in the blink of an eye. you looked up at him with a tired smile, his desperate confession ever present in your mind.
"um." you cleared your throat, looking to meryl, nicholas, and roberto. "can you guys give us a minute, please?"
while nick and roberto nodded and left as soon as you asked, meryl looked between you and vash before her eyebrows shot up and she nodded slowly, following the other two and closing the door behind her.
"i'm so glad you're okay," vash blurted out instantly, kneeling at your bedside. "i was so scared i lost you —"
" — you love me?"
vash stopped, slack jawed and a red tint to his cheeks as he stumbled over his words. he looked sheepish, as if he didn't expect his words to be thrown back at him.
"i — well, i mean," vash mumbled, rubbing the back of his neck. "yeah, i'll admit the execution of that confession wasn't my finest work but i meant every word."
you smiled, reaching out and grabbing his hand. you brought his knuckles to your lips and gave a gentle kiss, then turned his hand over and kissed his palm. vash watched you with wide eyes, swallowing loudly as his whole face turned a deep shade of red.
"you've no idea how i've longed to hear those words," you admitted with a grin. "though i would've preferred my near death not to be the reason you confessed, i'm glad to have heard them nonetheless."
vash chuckled nervously, moving his hand up to the back of your neck as he moved closer to you. you could sense the nerves and closed the gap between you two, gripping the collar of his jacket as your lips met.

Vash (Tristamp) X Reader
Warning! ⚠
⚠ cussing, insomnia, sleep deprived Reader, car hitting someone(Wolfwood), blood, mentions of death, what the fuck is vore? Does this count as it? Idk ⚠
Tumblr media
The car bounced slightly as it drove on the sand.
You were half asleep because insomnia could be a real bitch sometimes. Vash was dozing off, sitting at the other end of the back seat.
Meryl had asked to accompany both of you, mostly to get the blonde's story.
Not wanting to drag Kevin around, you let the big bird stay with the people of Jeneora Rock, knowing that they would need the bird more than you. Also handing over a letter for them to give to the doctor.
So here you were, in the back seat of the reporter's vehicle while the news was going on, struggling to stay awake.
Maybe I should sleep. You think, too deep into your thoughts to notice that Roberto and Meryl were talking about the worm cluster up in the sky.
Then the car jerked into a sharp turn.
"Ah!", you yelped, grabbing onto the top of the seat with one arm and the other darting over to keep the blonde from flying forward, having to get closer to keep him safe.
Car having stopped, everyone in the let out a breath before getting off.
The small dark haired woman sprinted to the figure lying in the sand and the rest of you followed.
"Hey! Are you ok!?", Meryl asked the person she hit.
You went next to her, holding a small first-aid kit and recognized the poor accident victim making pained noises.
"Wolfwood?", you were a little more awake now thanks to seeing a familiar face. "Hey Star boy, help me lift.", you say and pocket the kit before crouching down to grab the man's legs.
"Right!", the humanoid typhoon rushes over to help.
After getting the man in black into the car, it was a little cramped but at least the injured person wouldn't get his head hitting the side windows. Meryl was speeding through the dunes, the car bouncing even more than earlier. "There's no dying on my watch mister!", she said panicked.
You and Vash held onto the man so he wouldn't get even more hurt, but with all the movement he was still in constant pain. Both you and the blonde looked at Wolfwood worriedly since he looked a little braindead.
Thankfully with the fast driving, the car made it to a plant stop.
Meryl jumped out of the car and rushed over to the building while you helped Vash get the injured man out of the car.
"We need supplies! This man is injured!", she said before getting a good look at the state the place was in.
"Hold on.", you mumble to the blonde and let him take hold of Wolfwood before going into the building, seeing the blood and dead bodies inside.
The other two followed you both in and also took in the scene.
.
After the bodies were buried and Wolfwood was up, you stood next to the kid as you watched the undertaker in black stuck the heavy cross into the sand.
"Uh.. Heavenly father, lord in heaven..", he started, taking a drink from the bottle in his hand while squatting down. "Forgive us our sins oh lord as we forgive those who sin against us.", he said and started sprinkling the water on the makeshift graves.
You rolled your eyes, too tired for whatever gibberish the man in the suit would say next.
"Please welcome their souls and all the faithful departed into your..into your.. What is it?"
Vash and Meryl look up from their sad gazes after hearing that.
"Welcome them into your humble abode?"
The two look at the black haired man in confusion as he continues to guess what to say next. And then the cross starts to tilt and fall, making the man scramble to catch it.
"Uh..make sure there's some empty chairs. They're kindom coming so..", Wolfwood says with his hands in a praying position.
"That's enough!", the small reporter says, making the undertaker stop. "You're not really a priest, huh?"
"No, I'm not.", Wolfwood says standing up. "I'm an Undertaker."
Shovel, shovel. Bury, bury. You thought with a slow blink.
You didn't pay attention until the man in black walked over and took a knee, handing the kid a lollipop.
"I want one..", you mumble to yourself.
Damn. I am out of it. You thought and rubbed one of your eyes.
Looking over to the three, you are just in time to see the check scene. Vash in total shock at the price before shakily showing it to Meryl. Then Meryl starts to argue with Wolfwood and the other reporter walks up, taking the check before scoffing.
There was a sudden light ring in your ears, making you wake up just a bit.
Isn't this when-
You don't get to finish that thought as everything starts shaking and you grab onto the kid so that you both don't fall over.
Even though I know they're the cause, here I am making sure they don't fall.
The shakes continue and that's when the sand dust starts to form when the worm gets closer. At the moment you wonder if you should feel terrified or in awe.
Then it hit you.
Ah, I've hit my sleep deprivation insanity.
"It's a grand-worm!", Vash yelled out before the giant worm swallows the plant station whole.
"AAAAAAAHHH-!"
Everyone screams as all of you go down the dark and odd throat of the worm, eyes widening when seeing the high fall after entering another part of the worm.
All of you groan after hitting the bottom, sitting up or standing from the fall.
Meryl had held onto you and the kid while falling, then she pulled both of you back when a large piece of metal fell just a few inches away.
"Incoming!", Roberto yelled out as more of the plant station started to fall down, even the car.
"Nope, nope, nope.", you started moving the two next to you and felt someone squish you between the two while bringing all of you away from the danger. "Oof-", you sounded as all of you landed.
"You guys aren't hurt are you?", the humanoid typhoon asks.
"No.", you say and shiver in disgust when feeling sand in your clothing, sitting up quickly and shaking/pulling at your clothes.
You stand up and grab onto your coat, also shaking the sand off of it. And as you were doing that, you heard Wolfwood saying something about watching your step.
Then a flying worm crawled out of a skull.
.
"I've heard something about worms being interconnected.", the small reporter said.
"You heard right.", the older reporter confirmed.
Vash and the others watched as the worms communicated. Light bouncing off the walls of the worm as the small one flew farther and farther.
"That's its detached electron network. The bigger the worm, the more detached electrons it holds.", the older reporter says. "Judging by its size, this guy must be a pillar of its community."
"Which means?", Meryl asked, turning to look at her partner.
"Which means we're in the head honcho.", Roberto replied.
The blonde was still looking up at the bug before snapping his attention to the two figures going deeper into the worm.
"Hey!", he said and ran after the two.
What is the angel doing!?
"Come back!", the small reporter shouted.
They stopped when the two were climbing, the kid jumping over while the medic was still going.
"What are you doing?", he asked as they kept climbing.
They looked over their shoulder and down at him with a serious gaze, not missing a beat with their response.
"Going after the kid, duh.", they said and continued climbing.
Well, that makes sense. He thought and started climbing.
Then after the climb, he found them standing in front of four tunnel like openings.
"Uh..", the medic turned to face him and the reporter with a nervous smile. "I think I lost the kid..?"

Trigun Stampede Finale - Episode 12 Thoughts from Pom
0) Knives likes cowboys. His gap moe just keeps getting better. What a dork? I love him?
1) Meryl’s character growth has been super fulfilling to watch. I love how she stopped Knives’ plan to kill everyone by taking those steps to reach Vash. She did something so dangerous, risking an agonizing death at Millions Knives’ hands to save everyone, instead of freezing in terror like a lot of people would have done in that situation! I respect her SO MUCH.
2) Knives’ roar of outrage when he tries to kill Meryl. It really is always a brunette getting between him and Vash isn’t it? Junya Ikeda acted his heart out and it was amazing to hear how incensed Knives was while also hearing the panic of losing Vash in his voice too. I feared for Meryl as much as I felt heartbroken for Knives.
3) That scene with Vash awakening to save Meryl was some good food. Actually shivered when he thanked her as he stepped back into the fray to face Knives. The sound design, animation and voice acting of this show is perfectly crafted to give you a rattling experience.
4) I am a Stampede undercut Vash appreciator, but I love Vash’s new look in this episode. The reveal when it finally settles into that shape is once again a testament to the love poured into this show. His antennae are prominent, his forehead is cute, and I’m overjoyed that this iconic look could be given to him without sacrificing his undercut. It’s aesthetically pleasing. I hope that they keep this look for Vash.
5) Knives is beautiful. What right did Orange have giving Knives the prettiest face on this show?
6) Vash’s wing is monstrous to behold. The exact moment when it unfurls during his fall from the tower is HAUNTING ME.
7) The way the flying fight scene perspective makes you feel Vash’s gunshots as if he’s shooting AT YOU when he’s shooting at Nai. Ow. Sexy but ow.
8) Nico picking up Meryl and booking it will live rent free in my head forever too. Take her and run. Pocket wife. Zoom.
9) Unhinged freak thoughts incoming! I thought I was scared of Vash’s forehead but I was actually just scared of the nape of his neck being stiff with hair gel. I have a thing about the back of the neck. It’s gotta be bare so it can be stroked with light malice and gripped with violent force. Vash’s forehead is for kissing and smacking and flicking things at (Everything I want Nico and Meryl to do). Vash’s NAPE is for sucking biting & pinching (Everything I want Knives to do). It’s good Vash’s underside is shaved because the back of his buzzed neck is ero, and because the bottom half of his skull is slightly bristly, a superior texture. If Knives wants to grab him by the neck he can feel the warmth of Vash’s skin and pulse under his palm. If he wants to hold Vash by his hair he can grab a fistful from the top of his head. It’s perfect for my deranged imagination.
10) Kisses Vash’s forehead. Kisses it so much.
11) Vash bit Knives’ hand like an incensed dog and looked adorable doing it.
12) Millions “Hysterically appalled by my Eve’s savior complex” Knives
13) I was on Knives’ side when he said, in breathless horror, “After more than a century, that’s the best answer you could come up with?!” Seriously, Vash, that was such a lackluster response! I don’t care if you got shot fifteen times by the JuLai police, when you fly into the stratosphere with your brother who is in love with you you have a serious heart to heart with him! Jerk! /kidding
14) Knives finally realizing Vash is lost to him forever in that scene haunts me. He’s devastated. I picked the right antagonist to stan. This hurts so much.
15) Knives being the powerless one, having Vash wrenched away from him again and again, even though he promises to keep fighting for him is what gets me. Stampede is relentless about confronting you, the audience, with the fact that Knives is an EXTREMELY romantic character. Knives is SO WEIRD— he has these violent murderous methods, and yet he also represents this ideal paradigm of undying love. He’s not just a yandere. His heart was BROKEN this ep. He was squashed. The irony that the guy who hates all of humanity experiences so much humanity is buckwild. Knives is a romantic character even if some audiences find it repellant to ship him with Vash. His love for Vash is as unhesitant as it is unhealthy, to dramatic effect. The more Knives and Vash push against each other’s ideals, the tighter those ideals coil.
16) Those were the most beautiful dying words I’ve ever heard, thanks Knives I’m sobbing. You still do everything for that impossible “Us,” even after everything. Even after Vash has chosen humans over you every time. I love this sad lovesick plant.
17) Knives always keeps his promises to Vash. No, I haven’t read Trimax yet, but I know we haven’t seen the last of him.
18) The way Vash screams “Nai!” and sobbing Nai’s name while falling back to Earth can become my new ring tone! Congratulations to Yoshitsugu Matsuoka for bringing such a heartwrenching performance to Trigun Stampede Vash. ;-; </3 I love hearing his uniquely soft voice.
19) Stampede Eriks my beloved. Brokenly playing piano because it’s his last connection to Nai. He thinks he’s killed Nai and all the plants in addition to destroying JuLai. My depressed, remorseful baby oh my god.
20) Season 2 confirmed! 🎉 THANK YOU SO MUCH STUDIO ORANGE AND CONGRATULATIONS!💕🍊
Extra Thoughts!
21) Honestly, I feel relieved that Season 2 is a ways off in the future. It gives me time to thoroughly enjoy the massive amount of beautiful fanart and fanfic that’s been created. I was kind of just shoving it all in my mouth before and I want to savor it with a calmer frame of mind.
22) From my perspective as a fan creator who also makes original comics the pause period gives me a sense of breathing room to digest what I felt from this show and make the best possible fan creations about it. All my fanart so far has been made in a rush of passion. That’s fun and exciting, but without reflection, it lacks focus. I look forward to reading Trimax and fully learning all of the story. Also looking forward to do solo and collaborative zines, among other future Trigun fan projects!
23) I’ll admit that Stampede was my introduction to becoming a fan of Trigun, and yet, I feel safe and understood by Studio Orange’s retelling in a way I can’t articulate or justify. “They Get It” has no business coming from my mouth, but it is the way I feel, for some reason. How did they do that? It must be magic. Thank you Orange! Because of Stampede, I fell in love with all of Trigun. Met some really cool people, too. ;-; A

Hi, this is last part of my Trigun Maximum vol 6 thoughts for @trigunbookclub!
Tumblr media
Some thoughts on TriMax chap 38-39 under the cut!
Tumblr media
Aw, Milly’s an art teacher! 。^‿^。
Tumblr media
Vash’s being beaten by kids again
Tumblr media
Look at him just chilling in the church
Tumblr media
….Hol’ on lemme just-
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Oh, come ON
Tumblr media
PLEASE, LET THAT MAN CATCH A BREAK
Tumblr media
Wolfwood too, he just tryna eat his noodles
Tumblr media
Woah, he had a gun fight and his angel arm stopped a bullet
Tumblr media
OH NO, Meryl’s having a….panic attack? Breakdown? I dunno, but she got reminded of what happened to Vash
Tumblr media
This is just like Nimona fr
Tumblr media
NO STOP
Tumblr media
That kid just like me fr (I too would try to tell the adults that Vash isn’t bad (Ó_Ò))
Tumblr media
NAAAAAH, IS THIS WHY THE CHAPTER IS CALLED COLORLESS EXPRESSION???  (┳Д┳)
Tumblr media
I wanna see an epic final battle between Vash and Knives in the manga, the ’98 anime’s final battle was cool, but TriStamp’s? Ohohohoho, it was epic
Tumblr media
So Vash and Wolfwood are checking out the city with lots of plants that Knives visited, and uh…Wolfwood’s threatening someone
Tumblr media
Woah, cool epic plant ability, he can have a vision of what had happened there
Tumblr media
Ain’t no way, that plant that exploded was Tesla? (When I read the name Tesla, I got scared that I'll see a flash back of Knives's and Vash's discovery, luckily I didn't.....yet)
Tumblr media
It’s kid Vash and kid Knives’s birthday! °˖✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧˖°
Tumblr media
How Vash and Knives were born (Naaah, did they literally just got dropped as newborns? Like did the plant they came out from just opened up and spit them out?)
Tumblr media
Baby Vash and Knives (SO CUTE!! (*≧∀≦*))
Tumblr media
The fact that Knives had hope that he and Vash could get along with humans, while Vash was kinda unsure about that. Then when they’re both had grown up, Knives wants to destroy humanity while Vash tries to stop him 😔
Tumblr media
Welp, looks like humans did created plants,I always thought they were aliens. But somebody told me that TriStamp’s plants are actual aliens that went to earth then humans found their mummified remains and scientifically modified them
Tumblr media
Oh no, there’s a problem in the ship!! (It seems Rem was worried that the crew’s waking up, probably because she’s gonna have to explain to them why two kids are awake)
That’s all for TriMax vol 6! ‧º·(˚ ˃̣̣̥⌓˂̣̣̥ )‧º· Bonus thoughts: Wow, the scenes in this volume felt…more painful than the previous volumes. It seriously hurts when people thought Vash is a monster but he’s actually not and despite that he still smiles. Knives too, he may be a super-duper bad guy but he’s just furious that humans are exploiting his own kind. And kid Knives had hope that he and Vash could get along with humans.
Tumblr media
Gee, I sure do hope it doesn’t get worse next volume!!! (It totally will, I just knew it and I’m scared)

Hmhmmm hm spinning trigun swap!au around in my head like barbies in the michealwave
instead of Vash’s act of stabbing Rem when she stopped him from hurting himself post-Tesla sending him down the path of peace and love, it fucks him up and makes him realize how “fragile” Rem and the other humans are compared to he and Knives. Cue him trying to actually divert the ships from Gunsmoke entirely under the idea that they should all just live in space in cryosleep forever bc it’s “safe”. Knives still causes the fall but it’s accidental due to the squabble of him trying to stop Vash. Knives would in no way be the hero type canon Vash is, but he’d probably end up a neutral force just wandering the planet avoiding Vash and trying to help the plants (but also keeping people away from Vash in ways that are totally not him doing good deeds for humans, nope, absolutely not.)
Look, benevolent intentions from an uncanny valley iron fist swap!Vash with the end goal more of less being a no free will human zoo is way scarier to me personally than Knives’ canon betrayal/grief/fear/anger driven villainy. Swap!Knives’ driving force would still be fear driven, but manifested instead in him pushing a belief of independence/free will > everything else.
please imagine with me swap!Vash’s last hail mary to try and get Knives on his side being him “resurrecting” Tesla. Somehow pulling her corpse back together and using his own energy to bring her to “life” but she came back wrong. Much closer to a living doll than an actual conscious person. The ultimate example of where they differ in opinion of free will: this Tesla isn’t alive in Knives’ eyes because she cannot make conscious choices, she’s perfect in Vash’s eyes because she can’t stray from his “protection”.
Also Livio should be Knive’s Wolfwood because I said so. Legato and Elendira his Meryl and Milly? idk

Trigun Thoughts Vol. 2 Pt. 2
This is actually just miscellaneous reactions I had while reading that I don't want to clog the tag with. Hope it's at least a little funny.
Tumblr media
Not for long I bet... (look at them. so squishy...)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oof. I um. Hm. This means something, I just can't place it right now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I adore how perceptive Milly is. I just adore her in general. Actually there's something to be said about Milly as the observer in this series. Meryl is knocked out for much of the ensuing fight against Monev but Milly witnesses all of it. She's also frequently the first to look out a window or to notice things in her environment. Hm. Really interesting.
Knives' face being shadowed is so so good. It's similar to my commentary in Stampede about how the camera doesn't really focus on young Nai in the early flashbacks so you don't see his face a lot at first.
Tumblr media
Vash's awkward smile. Meryl immediately trying to backtrack. I am experiencing secondhand embarrassment. Girl. Please.
Tumblr media
He looks like a jojo character. Actually, I'm super intrigued by Legato. He's really interesting. I wish to study him under a microscope. (Every time someone mentions "blue hair" my brain automatically finishes it with "and pronouns" sjfhbdfh)
Tumblr media
He's so cute. He wants your money.
Tumblr media
This entire scene is so sweet, what the heck???
And now, for a transcript of my live reaction to the page after this: "Yes! See through him! The mortifying ordeal of being known! Get perceived idio- WHAT HAPPENED TO HIS SPINE???"
I'm a little sad about Dominique. She was cool. Also I'm enjoying the way anyone wearing a coat or cloak, regardless of gender, is drawn as. Basically a rectangle. Hjhfvjdfh. This isn't a judgement I really do like it a lot.
Tumblr media
Wolfwood :(
Huh. Knives' literal rebirth is making me. Uncomfortable. :)
(Season 2 of Stampede should definitely give him the long hair here though...)
Meryl cares him so much. GOOD.
Ooh! About the whole "it was the first time he called me by my name" part, it actually wasn't! Vash said her name during the Monev fight but because Meryl was unconscious, she didn't hear it! I think, given how avoidant Vash is, it says a lot that he went from not referring to most people by name to singling out Meryl and Milly and telling them to run because, like it or not, they as individuals (beyond being members of humanity he swore to protect) have become personally important to him.
Tumblr media
Did. Did Legato just get squished???
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh my god no no no leave my boy alone
Tumblr media
UNCOMFORTABLE. STOP.
Tumblr media
NOOOOOOO :'(((
I have a few thoughts regarding Wolfwood watching all of that happen... but I kind of want to wait for a bit before I comment on it.
The fifth moon thing was incredibly disturbing in the way it played out... Knives' genuine sorrow at seeing that Vash has more scars. Vash rightfully calling him out for hurting him more. Knives immediately switching to blaming Vash for July and implying that he fucking shoot himself if he wants someone to pay what the fuck. Vash showing clear signs of trauma (freezing, loss of memory, panic, anger). Knives grabbing his face and restraining him while forcing his arm to transform. Everyone else trying desperately to get away. Vash crying and having no clue what is happening to his own body. Holy fuck. This is downright horrific.
Uhhh. On to Trimax I guess. I'm sure things can only get better...

ive absorbed so much trigun content through you and i still have no idea what it is about. what is it about please
ok so basically. there’s this manga which you can read here and also two tv shows (1998’s Trigun and 2023’s TRIGUN: Stampede) but so far i’ve only seen the 2023 reboot. ‘98 came out before the manga was done so it’s not the most accurate, but it has like a cowboy bebop vibe i’m told. i haven’t even read the manga (yet) (call me a fake fan if u want) but basically it’s like this: desert planet, space western, pacifism, christian imagery, PAIN, sibling relationships that will make u tear out your hair, fighting over resources, the nature of humanity, worms, love and peace and mercy.
most of the following character descriptions will be skewed towards stampede because that’s all i’ve got for now, but here are the main guys:
Vash the Stampede (aliases: the humanoid typhoon, babygirl, el wiwi, vashie, my beautiful girlfriend) has every mental illness inshallah and is wanted in 12 different jurisdictions for Crimes, but he loves people so much and he’s the sweetest staunchest pacifist the world has ever seen and he doesn’t want anyone to get hurt and he suffers for it like jesus.
Wolfwood, Nicholas D., (aliases: the punisher, el woowoo, ww, nico, nick, crucifix jim, (and unfortunately, Bigolas Dickolas)) is goth in the desert and carries a giant cross on his back. while this rips severely (<- factual) it is purely symbolic and certainly isn’t a giant gun that shoots lasers (<- lying). i can’t tell you things about him without spoilers. in the manga he’s a priest, in stampede he’s an undertaker.
Meryl Stryfe, our audience surrogate, is either a reporter or an insurance agent depending on the version of the story, but regardless of her occupation she’s trying to find vash for work-related reasons. area woman won’t stop collecting random shady men from the desert to add to her found family (and sometimes hitting them with her car)
Nai, or Millions Knives, is (one of) our main antagonist(s) and the absolute madman plays the piano and wears either 1) basically nothing or 2) a clothing item that can only be described as an evil snuggie made out of knives. i am not making this up. he’s a massive hater and he wants all humans to die btw but i actually love him and he’s got a specific sauce that makes him far from your regular boring evil villain
supporting characters in stampede include a kid made out of bugs, meryl’s drunk coworker, [REDACTED]’s little brother, the world’s best foster mom #1, the world’s best foster mom #2, blue-hair-and-pronouns, a mad scientist, and brad.
to my limited knowledge stampede functions as something of a prequel (?) to parts of the manga so i would suggest starting with stampede (beautiful) (only 12 episodes) and then tackling the manga (what i plan to do) if you want to give trigun a shot (so to speak).
or just talk to spacekrakens idk she got me into this mess and she knows more than me

wip wednesday; come touch me, too
hiiiii, got a wip wednesday for youuuu. hope your week has been going better than mine lmao. if not, then I hope this makes things a little better 🤭
She hums, forcing her tone to stay light, easygoing. "I'm touching you right now, though, aren't I?"
A hot puff of air brushes over her exposed collarbones as Vash lets out a little laugh. "You know what I mean, Meryl."
"...Yes. I know."
There's a beat of silence, and Vash lets out an aggrieved groan. "I've gone and ruined the mood," he grouses. "Sorry..."
"Stop apologizing!" Meryl huffs, wanting to tug at his ear in reprimand -- but she doesn't want to have to let him go to do so. Instead, she knocks her temple against the side of his head, for all the good the soft nudge would do. Vash huffs and grumbles, but his hands paw at her back, sliding over the back of her blouse, so maybe she was understood. "The mood hasn't been ruined," she continues, "we're just...we're figuring things out. I'm pretty sure that's a normal thing you're supposed to do during something like this. So --"
She knocks her temple against Vash's head again, turning her head and nosing blindly at his temple until slowly, grudgingly, he raises his head. Once he does, Meryl rubs his cheek against hers as a reward, pressing a kiss to his prickly skin. "You don't want me to touch you," she whispers, lips brushing against his cheek lightly, "is it just under your clothes that makes you uncomfortable? No skin to skin? Can I touch you like this?"
Her hands drag over his clothed back, fingers tracing over the knobs of his spine, and the full body shiver she recieves at her touch is delicious. Meryl hides her pleased smile along the curve of his cheek.
"Vash?" She prods, and she hears him audibly swallow. "Is this okay?"
Her hands slide around to his sides, and his cheek rubs against hers as he nods rapidly. "Yes!" He yelps, voice cracking slightly on the way out. "Yes, that -- this is fine!"
His muscles jump beneath her hands, and the reaction she's getting from such a simple touch is...interesting. Curious, her hands move to his chest, biting back a smile at the feeling of his heart, racing against her palm. Her nails catch against something beneath his shirt, over his left pectoral, and her heart jumps as she tugs at it without meaning to, hoping that she hasn't hurt him. Her worry is quickly put to bed at the full body shiver that runs over Vash, his shoulders slumping as he leans into her, nosing at her bangs, at her temple.
His breathing flutters her bangs, warm and heavy and so, so loud in such a small space, pressed to close together. The rhythm of his chest rises and falls in tempo with her wandering hands; at her back, his hands fidget in place, fingers curling and releasing over and over -- it was almost as though he didn't know what to do with his hands. It makes tenderness rise up in her, making her chest swell, and Meryl places her hand back over his rabbit-fast heart.
"You can touch me, too," she says, and Meryl can feel the way it makes Vash shiver all over.
Curl and release, curl and release. Such hesitant hands, so different from the last time they had touched her. His lips drag over the thin skin at her temple, down the curve of her cheek and towards the soft patch of skin behind her ear. "I..."
Meryl reaches back to grab at one of his wrists, tugging one of his hands to her. With a gentle hand, she rubs her thumb over his knuckles, silently encourages his hand to open, and once his fingers straightened fully, she pulls at his hand and presses the curve of her breast into his palm.
A stuttered exhale tickles her skin, making her laugh, and she laces her fingers between his, encouraging him to squeeze. "Touch me." She stresses, and she turns her head to nip at his ear -- a sharp sting of teeth that has Vash shuddering, makes him roll his hips upward, seeking friction. Meryl sways with him in response, pulse ratcheting up at him squeezing her breast, thumb rolling over her nipple.
"Soft..."
She can feel how Vash's mouth hangs open, hot and wet against her skin, and Meryl feels the simmering arousal sitting in her belly begin to boil over. Suddenly, none of it is enough -- his hands on her, his mouth on her skin, it's not enough, nowhere near enough, and the force of this new wave of want makes her dizzy. Vash let's out a strangled noise as he turns is head, slotting his lips back over hers, and he kisses her greedily -- the kind of kiss that can make your head spin, the kind that makes it hard to tell up from down. Meryl can feel the cool slide of his prosthetic hand, dragging down her spine, and it presses at the small of her back, sliding her forward and pushing their hips flush. The drag of her clothed cunt sliding over his thigh was agony, the kind that felt so good that it hurt, and she lets a choked moan slide into his mouth, another jolt running through her when she feels --
Their lips quickly part with a wet sound as Meryl gapes at him, unprepared for the weighty heat pressed between them, tucked at the apex of her thighs. On a reflex, she squeezes their joined hands, and that's a new sensation she has to shiver through, the unintentional squeeze of her breast rolling over her. But that doesn't matter, because -- because Vash is hard. Here, between them, is the warm, hard curve of his cock. And Meryl just -- she has no idea what to do with that information.
I did that, she thinks, dazed. That happened because of me.
The realization sends a new thrill running down her spine, and the muscles of her thighs flex.
"Meryl..."
They were still so close -- so in each other's space that she can feel the graze of Vash's lips a he speaks, and it makes her want to kiss him again. She works to focus on his voice instead.
"We can stop." He's saying, and Meryl is irrationally outraged at the feeling of him starting to shift his hips back, an effort to pull the evidence of her effect on him away. "You don't -- you can just ignore it. I don't want you to be uncomfortable --"
Wrapped up in the safe darkness of the truck's cabin, Meryl rolls her eyes so hard they hurt. She is tired of the assumption that every pause is a sign that she wants to stop. Perhaps it would be best for both of them if she made things clear -- explicitly so. With that goal in mind, she grabs a handful of his shirt, tucking their bodies close with a roll of her hips. Blindly, Meryl darts forward for a kiss, relishing in the way Vash's breathing stutters as she sucks his lower lip into her mouth, letting the flesh fall away with a drag of her teeth.
"I'm new to this," she says breathlessly, rocking her hips again so the message really sinks in, "so you're gonna have to show me what to do. Okay? I'm in your care."
She gets stunned silence in response, but that's fine -- Meryl has no problem with waiting.
And she doesn't have to wait long.
The hand at her back increases in pressure, holding her to him; Vash's breathing is heavy, rattling in the scant space between them. "Yeah," he rasps, running an absent thumb over her nipple. "Yeah, I can -- I'll take care of you."
"Mm --" His hips rock upward, stealing her breath, but the hand at her back is encouraging -- guiding, helping her roll her hips into a deep, delicious grind. Meryl's mouth falls open, breath hitching out of her in a silent moan at the sensations darting over her nerves, so good it makes her teeth ache. Vash decides to add to the sweet torment, giving her nipple a sharp pinch through her shirt, and she lets her hand fall away, because Vash is making it very clear that he doesn't need her guidance anymore. All the better for her -- now she blindly reaches out, clutching at the hood of his jacket so she can have something sturdy to hold onto.
"You're still not going to let me hear your pretty noises?"
Meryl is snatched up into another kiss before she can give an answer, and that's fine -- that's so fine, because she'd rather spend this time kissing than talking. In her opinion, they've talked enough.

WIP Wednesday
Tumblr media
Hannah decides on a course of action once she, Chuck, Milly, and Meryl were sent to the Command Room for safety.
Chuck had heard what Doc said about Vash being their only hope and scowled at his sister stroking the computer keyboard. “We need to help Vash and you’re drooling over new tech!”
“I’m not drooling! I’m looking—” Her face brightened. “Found it. Pass me the bike’s data cord.”
Chuck pulled the end of it free from the crankcase and Hannah plugged it into the keyboard’s port she had found. “How is this gonna help Vash?”
“Can’t decide on a battle plan without data.” She sat in the keyboard’s chair. “Helmet please.” Chuck passed that to her, and she turned on her faceshield after she put it on. “Okay, time to see the data in formats I know. Power levels.”
Chuck turned on his faceshield. “Show me too.” Colored bars labeled 1 - 4 appeared on his faceshield but he didn’t know what they meant. They all were almost the same height.
“And usage?” Hannah asked. “Label the systems.”
The bars shifted from vertical to horizontal labeled with words he couldn’t read yet. He recognized “cold” on the second longest line.
“Any other power sources? Batteries?” Hannah asked.
The bike answered by typing on the faceshields. “No.”
“Shit,” Hannah whispered.
“What does this mean?” Chuck asked.
“This whole ship is only running on plant power. The biggest draw is for propulsion, staying up here, followed by the cold storage. The wrenchheads are targeting the plant bulbs and if Vash and Preacher Man can’t stop them—”
“Splat on the ground?”
“Yeah. And it is really irresponsible for them to run like this without any reserves.”
Chuck looked down at the bike’s gas tank. “Is it my fault we’re gonna crash?”
“What?”
“Mom says Dad and the uncles can’t fly spaceships.”
Hannah put her hand on his back. “That’s not because they’re mice; it’s because their skills on wheels do not transfer to flying. The ones at fault are the wrenchheads trying to hurt the plant angels. You got that?”
“Yeah.” He said softly. Hannah patted his back before pulling her hand back. He looked over at her. “So how can we help Vash stop the wrenchheads?”
“Vash put us on civilian protection duty.”
“Boring. Should we shove them into lifeboats?”
The bike took away the graph to type, “Life pod capacity does not meet the mobile population.”
“I was afraid of that. So nobody can get off this bus….” Hannah’s voice trailed off and she had on her thinking face. Then she switched to Martian. “{Bike, find the landing program and input current situation variables into the calculation of safest landing outcome.}”
“Calculation made. Landing possible 75 miles for New Oregon. Human input is required.”
That was a lot of words Chuck didn’t know but Hannah didn’t stop to explain them as she continued in Martian to the bike. “{From this terminal?}”
“Yes.”
“{Firewall landing program and this terminal and then boot up.}”
Chuck looked back at the crowd, but they were all focused on what Mr. Wolfwood was yelling at more puppets and not equipment turning on. That was sneaky good. But he needed to remind Hannah of something. “{They didn’t want to go down, Hannah.}”
“{Tough. Vash doesn’t want them to die and I don’t want to crash. They are outvoted.}”
Chuck wasn’t sure if that was how voting worked, but he didn’t want to crash either. The keyboard turned on along with the smaller screen attached to it. Hannah focused on the tech and Chuck turned sideways on the motorcycle’s seat to watch her back, just like if they had to take over some of Karbunkle’s tech back in Chicago.
“{Bike, keep the power going to cold storage and propulsion. We do not need them waking up in the middle of all this going on.}”
“Yes.”
Chuck turned back to watch Hannah type on the keyboard and stare intently at the screen. “{I hope you didn’t get Dad’s ability to crash spaceships,}” Chuck told her in Martian.
“{He never taught me how to drive a spaceship, so we should be good!}” She hunched over the keyboard in her concentrating posture.
Chuck snapped his mouth shut and turned back to the crowd so he could warn Hannah if they got mad. They were all still concentrating on the screen Doc had showing the wrenchheads and Vash and Mr. Wolfwood without any visuals. Didn’t they have cameras anywhere? Limburger always installed cameras when he had to rebuild his Tower.
“What is that?” Doc asked with rapid typing. “What? How are we moving? This room?”
The crowd of ship citizens mostly asked what Doc was talking about, but Meryl-ma’am and Milly-ma’am both whirled around. Meryl-ma’am’s eyes widened when she saw the lit keyboard and she stepped toward them. “Hannah.”
Chuck shook his head. “Don’t distract the driver.”
The crowd split as Doc twisted in his seat so he had a clear view of Chuck and Hannah. “What are you doing, child?”
“Shooting the hostage,” Hannah said.
“We’re doing the Speed battle plan!” They never had a chance to do that one. Chuck thrust both his arms up. “Aoooow!”

Road Trip VII
Road Trip Masterlist
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Fitz, please."
You look around furtively, before glancing at the young engineer in front of you. The lab is empty but someone could walk in at any moment.
"Forget it, no. No, I won't."
He shakes his head resolutely, crossing his arms over his chest and looking at you as if you had sprouted four heads.
"You are crazy, how could you think I would be able to lie to Natasha? She is a spy!"
You take a couple of steps forward and stop his nervous walk by taking him by the shoulders.
"Fitz, they can't see those results...you know what they would do if they saw them."
You see his shoulders slump and his gaze change. You are one of his closest friends but humanity comes first. He already proved this theory of his when he took the inhibitor off Daisy.
When that happened, you hated him; it didn't matter if it was him or "The Doctor." It only mattered that he had hurt one of your girls and was unrepentant.
But now it's not about Daisy, now it's about you, and putting your life on the line to save the world is a danger you have to take. Your life is not worth all the people you could help with these new powers. You are a hero and it is time to prove it.
"All right, I'll adjust the results but whatever happens-"
You give him a smile, pulling him into a hug.
"You don't know anything about it, I know. Now let's do it before Jemma comes to ask for the results."
The genius gets to work, and you watch as he fiddles with the tablet. It takes ten minutes to edit the test results; in the end, the graph is exactly the same as it was three months ago, the same as before the accident.
"I owe you one, thank you."
He gets up from his chair and hugs you.
"Don't get yourself killed or you'll owe me a funeral as a favor."
You giggle, shaking your head.
"I'll try Fitz but I'm not promising anything."
You look at least a hundred times outside the lab before you leave it is critical that no one sees you. No one else can find out what was written on those analyses. No one.
As soon as you turn the corner, walking toward the control room, you bump into Natasha.
The Russian keeps you from falling, stopping you by the shoulders.
"Hey, where are you going in such a hurry?"
Natasha smiles at you, moving her hands to your sides.
"Hey Nat."
You smile back, trying not to let her know that something is wrong. Although she has clearly noticed that something is wrong, the former Russian spy says nothing, merely dragging you - literally - into your room.
As soon as you enter, you notice Jemma, Daisy, and Wanda lying on the bed, wrapped in four or five stacks of blankets as they stare intently at the sixty-inch flat screen hanging on the wall in front of them.
The three of them remain silent, ignoring you completely, too focused on Meryl Streep's entrance as the fearsome and charming Miranda Priestly.
"What a woman..." Daisy whispers, and Jemma elbows her, turning to look at her briefly-just enough time to cast her a dirty look-before going back to watching television.
"You think so too, there's no point in being a goody-two-shoes."
Daisy sticks her tongue out at her, receiving another nudge from the biochemist as Wanda turns to them, motioning them to be quiet.
"How nice to be considered..."
You smile amusedly, sharing a look of understanding with Natasha. Mimi to count to three with her lips, then, together with the Russian, you stand in front of the television with an innocent smile on your face.
"Hello" Natasha begins to say.
"We're back" you finish, biting your lip to keep from bursting out laughing as the three girls on the bed begin to ask you to move over to let them watch the movie.
"Oh come on, here comes the part where Miranda meets Andy for the first time..." Daisy complains and Wanda nods, completely agreeing with the inhuman.
As soon as Jemma looks at you, she stands up in a flash, almost running toward you. You back away a few steps, giving her a confused look as she extends her hands toward you, as if wanting something.
"So, the test results?"
Your blood freezes in your veins and you immediately clear your mind, giving her a big smile. One of the most genuinely fake ones you can muster as you shrug.
"Nothing different, everything is exactly as it was before the serum."
You notice your girls breathe a sigh of relief and relax their posture, all except Natasha. She saw the look on your face in the hallway and you don't give her a hard time about it; she knows how stubborn you can be with your health-a bit of a bad trait she herself has-and she will find out what caused you to be in that mood moments before.
Jemma drags you onto the bed, also dragging Natasha and making you lie down with the others. All five of you on the custom-built bed, courtesy of Tony. Definitely one of his best gifts, as well as practical.
After a few minutes of silence, spent watching one of the best parts of the film, Jemma turns to you. Her brow furrowed and her brain working relentlessly.
"I've got to check those analyses, there's no way there's not a change, even a slight change, in your DNA. Maybe Fitz made a mistake in reading the data or-"
You take her face in your hands, a small smile on your lips, as you quickly reason your way out of that situation without doing further damage and without causing them suspicion.
"Jem, Fitz is an engineer and has already worked on the DNA of many Inhumans...you have to take it easy honey, maybe it was just a temporary side effect."
The biochemist does not seem fully convinced but nods, leaving a kiss on your lips before turning her attention back to the television.
Natasha doesn't take her eyes off you, she knows you're hiding something from them; you've been acting extremely strange before and it's the usual behavior you have when you're lying. She's going to talk to the others about it, she's definitely going to hear from Fitz...that guy can't lie to her, he never could.
You keep watching the movie, your concentration is elsewhere. The weight in your stomach for lying to your girls is great, really great, but you couldn't do otherwise.
To survive...you have to focus on that, just that. Easy, right?
.....................................................................
You chase back a yawn, crinkling your eyes and walking down the stairs to your apartment.
No one should be home, or at least, that's what you thought.
A sweet scent of pancakes and eggs invades your nostrils as soon as you set foot in the kitchen; Daisy and Nat are sitting at the kitchen counter while Jemma and Wanda are at the stove, exchanging a few small kisses or sweet looks every few minutes.
"Hey, good morning."
You smile at the sight in front of you; Natasha gets up and walks over to you, wrapping her arms around your waist and kissing you.
"Good morning malyshka, did you sleep well?"
You nod and as soon as you pull away, you go to say good morning to the other girls.
You're tired actually, you've been tossing and turning all night in bed trying to sleep but failing. It's a wonder Wanda didn't notice...Hiding the test results from your girls has put more anxiety on you than anything else, you didn't sleep at all last night.
"Here's breakfast...Diasy, get them with a fork, they're hot!"
Keeping secrets from your girls is not your forte, it's wearing you down.
Despite the fact that pancakes match a beautiful look, your appearance has absolutely no desire to ingest a whole lot of anything.
"I'm actually not very hungry...I think I'll go take a nice hot bath."
You stand up, giving your girls an apologetic smile before leaving the kitchen and heading for the bathroom.
Natasha watches you walk out the door and a worried frown flashes across her face as soon as you leave her view.
"She never refuses pancakes" Daisy sighs, torturing her lower lip as she exchanges a glance with the Russian.
"I'm worried she's been acting strange since yesterday...she hasn't slept, she's been tossing and turning in bed all night."
Wanda twirls the fork back in her hands, encircling it with her magic and twirling it in the air. Jemma tightens her lips, shaking her head and sighing slightly before sharing, with her girls, that little doubt that had been pounding in her head since the day before.
"I think...I think Fitz found something in the tests and they decided to hide the results for I don't know what reason after all, it wouldn't be the first time."
Daisy blushes, looking away from the biochemist and swallowing a piece of pancake.
"I think so too, she was strange when I met her outside the lab...one of us should go talk to her" Natasha runs a hand through her hair, moving a strand of hair behind her right ear.
"I'll do it, I know what she's going through..."
Daisy sets her fork and knife down on her plate before standing up.
"I'm going over, see you later."
The girls murmured a greeting just before the Inhuman left the room.
...........................................................................................
You've always liked to bathe, ever since you were little; the problem? If you are very tired, you risk falling asleep. And you know, sleeping in a tub full of water is not very safe. So when Daisy walks into the bathroom, without even knocking, and sees you completely submerged in water, she panics.
"Shit, y/n!"
Daisy runs to the tub, dipping her arms into it and pulling you out by your armpits. When she sees that your chest is rising and falling regularly, she breathes a sigh of relief.
You cough, spitting out some of the water you must have swallowed despite the short amount of time you were underwater. Daisy strokes your back, vibrating your lungs with her powers to help you expel all the water inside them. After making sure you are okay, Daisy wastes no time before slapping the back of your head.
"I'm sorry, I fell asleep."
Daisy shakes her head; if I hadn't worried her, she would have burst out laughing by now. A few minutes of silence pass before Daisy decides to speak again.
"Why are you hiding the test results from us?"
Her words are unexpected, but although your heart begins to beat fast, you hide any reaction.
"What are you talking about Dee?"
"You know very well y/n; what do the test results say? You know we will never leave you, not even if your new powers could be dangerous...none of you did it with me and I even learned to control them and-"
"Dee, I really don't know what you are talking about, Fitz hasn't found anything because they are gone; I don't have them anymore."
You exit the bathroom, entering your room and slipping into the first sweatshirt you see.
"Gone? Do you really think that believing such a thing?"
Daisy quickly catches up with you, looking at you with a raised right eyebrow. You break free from her grip, returning to the kitchen, but Daisy follows you.
Jemma, Wanda and Natasha blink as they see you enter the room, followed by a somewhat irritated Inhuman.
"Y/n, you must accept these powers. They won't disappear if you ignore them, do you understand?"
You grab a glass from the top shelf of the kitchen, and when you set it down on the counter, you do so with so much force that the glass shatters in your hand.
"Fuck," you grimace, slowly opening your injured hand. Jemma snaps to her feet, quickly reaching for you but as soon as she reaches out to take your hand and check the damage, you shrug.
"I'm fine Jem, it's nothing "
"Maybe you need stitches, let me check please."
Despite your girlfriend's authoritative tone, you ignore her anyway, peeling off the shards of glass before clutching the first piece of paper, which you have at hand, in your palm.
Daisy approaches the kitchen counter; Wanda averts her gaze from you, shifting it to the inhuman and reading her mind, involuntarily. As soon as she does, her eyes widen but before she can even try to stop you, Daisy takes a piece of the broken glass in her hand.
You quickly shake your head, sensing the girl's intentions.
"Daisy, stop, don't fuck up. Okay?"
"Tell me the truth y/n, don't make me find out for myself."
Daisy brings the blade closer to her arm.
You know her, she's impulsive and damn stubborn; you know she'd be capable of it. And that keeps you from lying again, giving in to telling the truth so as not to hurt one of the most important people in your life.
"Fine! You're right, okay? I still have powers and I faked the tests, along with Fitz, so you wouldn't find out but I suck at telling lies and in fact it showed."
Wanda takes your hand, intertwining your fingers.
"Detka why didn't you tell us about this? You know we will always love you, no matter what condition or situation-"
"Wanda is right malyshka, you should have talked to us about it."
Natasha's, Wanda's, Jemma's and Daisy's gazes are all on you; you sigh, sitting up and beginning to fiddle with the bracelets on your wrist.
"I..have something to tell you."
Hey, thanks for reading! I'll continue soon since I'm bad and I finished the chapter this way. You know I love you guys. Requests are always open ( Beatrix, Stella and Bloom are added to the list). Have a Great day!

How about something with Wendy and Jonah's friendship?
I love these two a lot! Thank you for the request!!
Wendy was so fucking tired that she had started to get jitters. There was no amount of caffeine that could fix just how exhausted she was.
Her phone vibrated in her back pocket, just as she handed a lollipop to her little patience and sent him out along with his mom, calling out the name of the next one.
As she had a minute or two of reprieve, she glanced at the screen quickly, smiling as she saw it was a text from Vince.
PMgnt: thought of u
She had no idea what he had attached that had reminded him of her, but still, it made her heart do little pirouettes.
"Dr. Marshall?"
And then she had to work again.
By the time it was her break and she stumbled back to the medical headquarters, she couldn't feel half of her face and was way past seeing auras around light spots. So much for being a health professional, Wendy rolled her eyes at herself and entered the dark room that today she was sharing with Jonah.
He should be getting his break now too, as Tyler and Meryl took over. Wendy didn't bother turning on the lights, she entered the room and collapsed straight on the bed, pressing her forehead to the flimsy pillow.
Everything hurt, her eyes, her teeth. The vague smell of bleach that the hospital always had was making her stomach slosh uncomfortably and she buried her nose in the pillow, trying to sleep off the headache.
Only for the door to burst open five seconds later, spilling bright light into the room.
"Jon, close the fucki-"
He interrupted her with a retch and then rushed across the room, straight to the bathroom, leaving their bedroom door open. Wendy sat up slowly, confused and in pain. She cringed as she heard Jonah retching violently in the bathroom.
Very slowly, she got up and shut the door once more, before practically crawling to the bathroom. Jonah was slumped over the toilet, arms folded over the seat in the most unsanitary way possible. She slumped against the door and rubbed a hand over her face, as sympathetic queasiness creeped up on her.
"Bad cafeteria food?"
Jon burped wetly over the water and shook his head, "no, I'm fine," he groaned and she would've rolled her eyes, if that didn't make her feel even worse.
"Please don't tell me it's a virus," Wendry groaned, wrapping an arm around her middle and opening a hand flat on her stomach. She could feel it gurgling under her palm, incredibly upset, but she was fairly sure it was more due to the half-way migraine than to any virus.
"nuoOh-" he lurched forward with another heave and coughed up more of their measly dinner. Wendy swallowed in.
"Will you tell me what's wrong already or do I have to keep playing fucking charades?"
Jonah groaned into the toilet, spitting one last time, before sitting back on his heels and grabbing the toilet paper to wipe his face, "it's just stress..." he said sheepishly.
She never thought she'd see the day of Jon being sheepish. Wendy let out a weak chuckle.
"You too, buddy?"
He frowned for a second, flushing the toilet and in the small bathroom the sound echoed and made her wince. Jonah stood up gingerly, using the sink for support.
"Too? Are you sick?"
"It's just a headache," she lied through her teeth, even if the urge to vomit was becoming and more present, just as the pain felt like it was set on making puree out of her brain. Jonah leaned over the sink to wash his mouth.
"A headache or a migraine, Dee?"
It was the nickname that undid her completely. Wendy let out a whimper, slumped against the door and let her back slide down until she was curled up on the floor.
"It'll pass..." she said in the tiniest of voices, "just- Just give me a minute."
She heard Jonah huff and then he crouched down next to her, "bet you a bed will feel better, Wendy," he whispered, grabbing her arms and forcing her to uncurl.
Wendy groaned at the movement, "Jon, stop," she groaned, but leaned fully into his touch and he scoffed, softly and guided her back into the room.
Instead of putting her to bed, he went to his own cot and Wendy crawled up with him, collapsing on his side and burying her face on his shirt, "you better not have a virus," she mumbled darkly, only for him to scoff, a hand going slowly up and down her back.
"And you better not throw up on me, Marshall."
"I promise no such thing," she sighed, snuggling up even closer.

Outlaw Insider Chapter 7
I forgot to post this here, but here is Outlaw Insider chapter 7. I told you I didn't forget!
If you enjoy my writing, please send me a kofi ko-fi(dot)com/kokohamstar . I'm a 32 year old living with her mom because she's covered in debt, so anything helps.
For the full story, please check out my AO3 post here.
“Welcome to the team, Vash.” Meryl shook his hand firmly. She might have gripped it a bit too tightly. She might have gotten a little paler than she was. Maybe it was the sweat that he saw on her brow that glistened under the moonlight, Vash couldn't help to think that she looked beautiful...just before she hit the ground.
“Meryl!”
“Senpai!”
The two ran to her immediately, checking her for any injury. “Meryl. Meryl are you okay?” Vash touched her shoulder, gently rolling her over to see her wince as her back hit the gravel. Her back. He realized. He pulled the cape off gently, setting it to the side.
“Oh Senpai…” Milly voice was the sound of defeat as she looked down upon her partner. As the cape came off, the damage came into view. The back of her dress had been burned into her skin in a mix of blood and dirt.
“Shit... Hey! We need a doctor over here! Please!” Vash’s voice was frantic. He was waking tired wounded citizens from their well-deserved rest. A few of them glared at him, others looked on with concern, but most of them just glanced over in unsympathetic curiosity. “Meryl… It’s going to be okay.” He touched her shoulder gently. It had to be okay.
When had it happened? When they were in the building? Why didn’t he notice? Dammit. Why the hell didn’t he notice?! She’d played it off so well. She played it off… just like he always did. Like she was fine. Like there were more important things to worry about. More important people than her.
The doctor crouched in front of him, tiredly cleaning the girl’s back as he stepped away. He wanted to blame himself. This had to be his fault somehow. He didn’t notice. She came back for him. But she still would have been there. With or without him, she’d have been in the heart of danger. Only Milly would have been with her instead. Milly would be the one carrying her out because Meryl had pushed herself too far.
She had always pushed herself too far. And there was no way he could have stopped her from doing so.
It would be midday before Meryl woke up, lying on her stomach on a blanket in what the town had turned into their makeshift clinic. It was a church on the outskirts of town, all the pews had been moved to the walls and in the center were blankets and cots for the injured to rest on while the town’s only living doctor and the few citizens who knew any bit of first aid made their rounds upon the wounded.
She groaned as the pain in her back set in, opening her eyes slowly. Her vision landed on the two, sleeping haphazardly back to back. Milly and Vash looked like siblings leaned against each other on the floor beside her. Milly blinked awake at the sound of her partner. “Senpai!” she leaned forward, causing Vash to drop to the floor with a grunt.
“Milly…” he sat up, rubbing his head gently before looking towards her, only to quickly avert his attention elsewhere. “Meryl!” With that he leaned forward, bracing himself on his hands. “Meryl I’m sorry. I didn’t know you got hurt.”
“Mm…” Meryl huffed a bit. “Honestly neither did I. Not this bad at least.” She acted as though she were going to push herself to a sitting position, but with a wince and a hiss, she gave up, relaxing best as she could onto the blanket once again. “How bad is it?”
“Uhm…” He didn’t know what to say. Bad? Gross? It’s going to scar? His stomach flipped. She was going to be scarred. Like him.
“Don’t worry, Senpai. It’ll be all better in no time!” Milly’s optimism was astounding.
Meryl actually laughed a bit. “So it must be pretty bad, huh?” She reached over, taking Milly’s hand gently. “Thank you both for being here.”
“Well we are a team, after all.” Milly squeezed her hand gently.
Vash was avoiding the shorter girl’s eyes as he mumbled. “Right. We’re a team.”
“That means no running.” Meryl said, firmly. “No self-pity about how everything is your fault or any other brooding.”
The former-blond simply blinked at the woman before laughing gently. “Right. No brooding. Got it.”
To say that the next few days were easy would be a lie. Meryl’s pain came in waves shooting through her skin. Despite living under the heat of two suns, nothing could have prepared her for the burning that had settled into her back. She wasn’t up and about twenty-four hours later like Wolfwood and Vash used to after their many disastrous escapades. She was bed-er… floor bound, feeling the searing ebb of pain flow through her nerves for hours, filled by a short time of peace or sleep. The doctor came by to apply salve to her back and patch it back up, but with limited resources, there wasn’t much he could do in terms of pain management.
Help from the closest town came three days later in the form of busses to transport the remaining citizens, food for those who couldn’t be moved, and more medical assistance. Not much changed for Meryl in this time. Anesthetics were hard to come by, and, despite Milly and Vash telling her otherwise, other people needed them more. They wouldn’t give up on trying to get her some kind of pain relief, and she wouldn’t stop refusing it. People lost limbs. People were burned worse than she was. They needed it more. Perhaps she’d underestimated her own injury, but she could bear it, she thought. She could get through it and heal and be back on her feet. Maybe not as fast as Vash, but as fast as she could.
“He’s only getting further away.” Meryl commented a week later, now able to sit up for a time with her back patched and her front covered by the same bandaging. “Amorous Lynch is going to be near impossible to find after this.”
“You’re still going after that psycho?” Vash frowned. “Meryl he could have killed you.” He handed her a glass of water and she winced at the movement of taking it in her hand. “You don’t need to get caught up in this again.”
“You’re going to just let him go? Shouldn’t you want to save people from him or something?” She stared him down in his silence. “This isn’t just a job, Vash. If I can catch him, I can turn him over to the authorities. Bounty or no, this guy has to be stopped.”
“Yeah but—”
“Does it have to be us?” Milly was the one that spoke up this time. Her brows were furrowed in worry. “We have done enough risk prevention, haven’t we? Isn’t this… isn’t this just too much?”
Meryl frowned at her partner. It wasn’t like the other to run away. It wasn’t like either of them to admit defeat. “We chased down the most wanted person on the planet Milly.” She reminded her.
“And he turned out to be innocent. Do you really think this guy is anything like Mr. Vash?”
Meryl was quiet at that. No. No one was like Vash. She didn’t have an argument for that. They’d lucked out with the most ‘dangerous’ man being nothing but a misunderstood puppy. They wouldn’t be that fortunate again. “He has to be stopped…” She repeated.
“But does he have to be stopped by us?”
The two of them were quiet for a long time. Even Vash couldn’t find the words to break the silence that had settled between them. He could watch the wheels turning between them as they both thought of what to say next to convince each other of what’s best.
“I’m not giving up.” Meryl said firmly. She set her eyes on Milly with determination. “I’m going to catch him. I’m going to stop him.” She clenched the cup in her hands. “And while I’m at it, I’m going to get a hell of a story to tell.” She added, “But if you want to go home, Milly, I understand.” And she did. She always did. If Milly had ever asked to quit or go back to the insurance society or to the office or even just go home to her large family, Meryl would have never held that against her.
Instead, Milly took a deep breath. “Then I guess we’re going.” Her voice was tired. “I can’t exactly leave you to your own destruction, Senpai.”
Meryl couldn’t help but be grateful for that. No, she’d never hold it against her partner for leaving. However, that didn’t mean she wasn’t grateful for the company. “Meryl.” She told Milly firmly.
Milly blinked at the other. “Sorry?”
“We started this job at the same time. Senpai isn’t really correct anymore. Besides, you make more sense than me most of the time. Just call me Meryl.”
“Right… Okay Meryl.” Milly smiled at that, pride beaming on her face.
It wasn’t as though Vash could let the girls go at it alone. And leading them off the trail obviously wasn’t working. So he decided to do the next best thing. He’d go with them. He’d protect them at their side. It was the only option he had. So a month later, when Meryl was able to dress herself fully, despite the burning sensation under her clothes, he was packed and ready to go. “So where to?”
Meryl started to put her cape on, the weight of her derringers pressing to her back before she quickly decided otherwise. “First we have to get a lead. No one here ever saw him, so the best bet is to go to the next town and see if they heard anything. With rumors there is a bit of truth. So we take what we can get.”
Vash took the cape from her, starting the daunting task of removing all of the small guns from their holsters and placing them into her suitcase. He wished she wasn’t so good at this. He wished she didn’t know where to start, but, unfortunately, he’d given her a lot of practice in the last few years.
“And when we find him?” Milly packed their new truck with their bags and what water they could carry. “How are we going to catch him?”
Meryl shrugged a bit. “With rope I guess.”
There was a hesitation before Vash laughed. A hardy laugh from his chest, causing him to double over. “Rope?!” Meryl watched him trying to regain his composure. “That’s your big plan? Rope?”
“Yeah well do you have anything better?” There was a slight pout to her lips as she glared up at the man.
“N-no! No I don’t. But I certainly didn’t expect that to be the only plan we’ve got!”
“Chains might be better…” Milly commented. “He can’t burn through those.”
“He can’t burn through anything if his hands are tied. And rope is easier to carry.” Meryl was already packing said item into the truck.
“I agree with the big girl.” Vash said, amusement still in his voice. “Chains are better. After all, how many times have I gotten out of a rope?”
“You could get out of a concrete block if you tried hard enough. You’re hardly an accurate example.”
He laughed again, this time gently. “Alright. Well pretend you’re trying to catch me…again. Treat this whole scenario like you would with me. Before you knew me.”
Meryl stopped moving for a moment. “Well we don’t know what environment we’ll have when we find him. A town. A village. A big city.” She chewed on her lip as she thought in a way that wouldn’t allow his smile to leave Vash’s face. “I guess it’d be best to corner him somewhere without any wood. Like…like in jail? Or maybe a vault? Like at the bank?”
“He’s never going to banks or jails though sen…Meryl.” Milly corrected. “But concrete walls… those are common in small towns right?”
She nodded. “But finding him in a small town. That’s going to be difficult. He’s going to where he can do the most damage.”
“Then it sounds like the plan is,” Vash started, loading the last bag into the truck and lifting the tailgate. “Corner him in a jail, vault, or otherwise concrete building.”
“Hm… it’s not really much of a plan, but—”
“It’s better than rope.” Vash teased.
“But!” She continued. “It’s a plan.” There was discomfort in her sigh. “We can leave tomorrow.”
Vash and Milly looked on in concern, Milly being the one to speak. “Are you sure you’re ready?”
“As ready as I will be. The longer we wait, the farther he gets, and the more people who get injured.”
Vash shook his head gently. “You’re quite the stubborn one, Meryl.”
“Yeah well… look who my example was.” She nodded toward him. “I don’t think anyone is as stubborn as you are.”
He rubbed the back of his neck shyly. “Yeah I guess you’ve got me there. Just…” He looked down at her, his gentle eyes focused on her. “Please don’t be like me. Be…be better. Smarter. Don’t hurt yourself over this.”
“Bit too late for that.” She laughed.
“I’m serious.”
Meryl nodded, smile fading. “I’ll do my best.” It was all she could promise. “We’ll save as many as we can. And we’ll come out alive on the other side.” But the damage to come was nothing she could anticipate. At least she wouldn’t be alone. “I’ll be okay. As long as you two stick by me.”
Milly patted her shoulder as carefully as she could. “We’re not going anywhere, right Mr. Vash?”
The dark haired man nodded. “Right. We’re a team.” He remembered he repeated his words from before, adding her own stipulations. “That means no brooding. From any of us.” He tilted Meryl’s face up to look at him. “No matter how things turn out. You’re doing things for the right reasons. You’re… we’re human.” He’d taken the title since his hair had gone black.
There was a blush that played over her cheeks. A burning she couldn’t blame on her injury. “Right. We’re human.” She agreed, ducking out of his hand. “So we only have one life to make things right.” With that, she walked past him, back to their makeshift lodgings, leaving him behind her, a sad smile on his lips.
He looked at her back with pain sinking into his heart. That was the first mark. That was the first step into becoming just like him. He didn’t want that for her. He didn’t want the martyrdom for her. He didn’t want the scars and pain. But this was the best he could do. Just…just be there. Just try to prevent all the damage he could, even as she ran headstrong into danger.
Was this what he always did to her? If so, he couldn’t feel more guilty for it.

Shouldding On Ourselves
I just finished Mistakes Were Made by Meryl Wilsner. I have thoughts...
Tumblr media
Here there be spoilers!
Forbidden romance is a trope that tantalizes readers. Lots of us want to be teased with a bite of the forbidden fruit--and Meryl Wilsner’s Mistakes Were Made is a juicy one!
Mistakes is the story of Cassie Klein, a college senior who meets Erin Bennett, a sexy older woman, at a bar. The two hook up in the parking lot and part ways, fully expecting never to see each other again. Imagine their consternation when they meet again at breakfast and discover that Cassie’s best friend is Erin’s daughter! Erin and Cassie know there are plenty of reasons for them to stop this disaster right here. But what starts as addictively mind-blowing sex deepens into an illicit romance. What will happen when their friends and family discover the truth?
Titillating taboo keeps readers along for the ride. But woven between each steamy sapphic sex scene are themes of desire and repression, particularly how they impact women in our society. To be raised as a woman is to be raised with expectations by the world that we learn to internalize and dictate to ourselves: “Oh, I want chocolate cake. But I shouldn’t have dessert.” “I want to lie on the couch all day, but I really should catch up on my chores.” “I don’t want to wear a dress, or makeup, or shave my legs. But I should look groomed.”
On and on it goes.
This insidious little word--should--triggers a learned response to ignore our natural desires. It seems inconsequential, but the repercussions can be serious and lifelong.
One fateful day I was out at a party with friends. We were talking about our romantic histories, people we found attractive, etc. Suddenly, our resident bi queen turned to me and asked me point blank: “Are you queer?”
And my response was: “I don’t know.” Not a definitive “No.” I didn’t know. It genuinely hadn’t occurred to me that I was even allowed to ask myself that question.
That day led to some long conversations in therapy. Ones about my relationships with friends, family, and even myself. At one point, my counselor stopped me and said: “You say ‘should’ a lot. You talk about the ways you ‘should’ be feeling instead of the ways you actually feel. Fuck ‘should.’ Stop shouldding on yourself!”
That was life-changing advice.
I stopped shouldding on myself. I forced myself to redirect every time I started to spiral over worries that I wasn’t measuring up, that I wasn’t believable in my identity, that what I wanted for my life was wrong.
So you can imagine me cheering Erin right along when she says: “Fuck should. It doesn’t matter what I’ve been trained to think I’m ‘supposed’ to do. What do I want? What makes me feel good? What will make my relationships stronger? Those are the questions that matter. Not what should I do.”
It’s not perfect. I still feel those terrible urges to please, to say the ‘right’ thing, to get an A in living my life like that’s a thing that’s possible to do. But I take comfort and courage from the fact that I’m not the only one working on unlearning this tic. Consider: during the lockdowns of the COVID 19 pandemic, a wave of women came out of the closet. Many factors probably contributed to that. But I’m willing to bet that at least one was the fact that--shut up in isolation with fewer obligations to distract and no other voices shouldding them down--many opened themselves back up to their dormant inner voices. Women began relearning how to identify their natural desires. Surprise! At least some of those desires were gay as hell!
I salute the courage of the late bloomers who have come out of the closet even if it meant upending their life. Defying the expectations of others, making choices that can even hurt others, is a frightening thing when we’re taught to prioritize everyone else over ourselves. But, like Erin, we need to remember that our courage can be a model for the ones who need it most. As Erin tells her daughter: “I want you to do anything you want to. It’s your choice...You get to find out what’s right for you. You get to make mistakes along the way. It’s your life.”
There’s no ‘right’ way to be twenty-one years old, or thirty-eight years old, or any other age along the road. Each life is a beautiful, unique work of art. But we have to remember: not every person is going to love every artwork out there. “Sometimes we have to do things that make us uncomfortable for people we love.” That’s ok. It’s your life. It’s your masterpiece.
So go out there and do whatever the hell you want. And, for the love of god, stop shouldding on yourself!
