Been working on an Everyone Lives AU (ignore me being in denial of the events of BOTFA) which is focused between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
So uh until then have a little idea drabble that I’m quite fond of:
• Fíli and Kíli essentially act as older brothers to the young hobbits
• Kíli teaches Merry and Pippin how to cause mischief and almost cries in pride when their pranks go right
• Kíli taught Merry to skateboard, Pippin tries to join in (by stealing Merry’s board and building the shittiest, most unstable ramp of course) but has absolutely no idea what he is doing and stacks it immediately.
Like he doesn’t even make it to the ramp - he steps on the board and it immediately slips out from underneath him, crashing into the ramp while he lays on the ground pretending he isn’t in immense pain.
• Anyways-
• Samwise has autism and OCD and frequently feels out of place among the young hobbits. He goes to Fíli for comfort when feeling left out and insecure because everyone else is having fun but he just can’t seem to let loose and have fun. Merry and Pippin say he’s uptight and no-fun.
Fíli will sit with him in the garden, not speaking much because he’s not the greatest with words of comfort, but makes sure Sam knows that he is loved by making him a flower crown and just being there while Sam tends to his garden (well, it’s technically Bilbo’s but he gifted it to Sam because of how much love and care he put into it).
After he makes sure that Sam is contentedly humming away as he tends to his garden, Fíli sits down with Merry and Pippin and tries to remind them to keep an open mind and that everyone thinks differently and likes different things, and that it is okay.
Merry instantly catches on and realises that he should make an effort to be more accommodating for Sam, but Pippin takes a while because of his raging impulsivity. Pippin tries his best but frequently slips up, earning a reminding nudge and glance from Merry.
Sam really appreciates their kindness and finally begins to feel like part of the group. Although, he suspects that Fíli said something, but when approached about it, Fíli merely ruffles Sam’s hair and chuckles with a knowing glint in his eye.
So yeah :3 lmk if anyone is interested in reading more about this little AU or if you have ideas/suggestions absolutely tell me!

how you pamper them when they're stressed/overworked
a/n: requested by the sweet @almost-gabrielle, i hope you enjoy it, and everyone else too - it's going to be GIGANTIC! 😍 be nice, cause I included some characters I haven't written much before (exciting!!!) and if you reblog with a comment or a nice tag... i'll love you forever! 💖 that means a lot, and i'm very grateful for all of it 🥰
Tumblr media
ARAGORN: he actually feels like that quite often, but he’s incredibly good at hiding it. Luckily, you’re an expert in reading him like an open book, but oftentimes you need to literally physically drag him away from whatever he is doing (and he might complain as you do so). Aragorn just enjoys sometimes being quiet with you, and it’s usually what he needs when his mind is racing, or his body is overexerted. Or both. You can just lie down together and run your fingers slowly through his hair, and that will help him forget his worries at least for a little while. Secretly he is an absolute sucker for sweet, romantic confessions of love and affection, and he will melt if you whisper sweet nothings in his ear.
LEGOLAS: something has to be extremely serious for him to feel that way, because his limits are very high; but in those moments he just wants to get away from everything as soon as possible and run to you, because with you the rest of the world just fades away. He enjoys an outing in nature, far away from real life, especially if the two of you find a nice lake or river to go for a swim in, and eventually act like a couple of children splashing and chasing each other. If that doesn’t help, he likes to sit in front of you and let you braid his hair as he talks about whatever is on his mind, and it also helps him physically relax to have you sitting behind and so close to him.
BOROMIR: this man will most likely push himself to his absolute limits, because he shoulders too much responsibility and feels pressured constantly to be on top of things. However, it’s easy to notice when he becomes a bit more irritable at one point, and then you know it’s time to talk him into taking at least a little break. That can be a slippery slope, because once he gets you alone for 5 minutes, it can very easily turn into 15 hours, and he would never finish anything. But on some days it’s just necessary - you sweet talk him into a cuddle session, during which he accidentally falls asleep with his head over your heart, or you make some tea with love as the special ingredient – and tell him that! He’s going to melt and finally, gratefully accept that his partner wants to look after him.
FARAMIR: much like his brother, he will probably suffer in silence, but you can’t miss his tired sighs every now and then, and the way he shuts his eyes and rubs his temples. If you hug him from behind, he will melt into your touch and lean onto you so much that you will almost topple over, but that will also make him admit to himself that he really needs a break. Run him a nice, hot bath complete with fragrant ingredients, and candles lit around it,  and he will be forever grateful. If you don’t join immediately, he will very sweetly ask you to come with him because 'oh the bath is so big and so lonely' without one more person in it.
ÉOMER: this hardworking man is actually quite in touch with how he feels, both physically and emotionally, and he knows when things are becoming too much and he needs to step away for his own good. It is not unusual for him to go search for you and suggest that the two of you do something away from everyday life. Many times he doesn’t even suggest anything, he just follows behind you whatever you’re doing - taking a walk and admiring some trees in bloom? He’s right there holding your hand. Sitting on a balcony and reading? He will lay his head on your lap and ask you to read to him. And he is content just being present with you.
SAM: he gets both overworked and stressed quite often, poor thing. Make him something to eat and bring it outside while he’s working in the garden, and just have a spontaneous mini-picnic in the backyard. Although he’s very hardworking and persistent, over time he’s learned to accept your help and pampering, and he really really enjoys it too. If he is under mental stress, maybe you’ll need to push him a little bit to tell you what is on his mind, but once he does, he will gladly listen to your advice or any help you can give him.
FRODO: baby boy is in his head a lot and oftentimes he will accidentally create things to worry about, and he will just zone out. if he has a faraway look in his eyes, while doing nothing in particular, you can accurately guess what is up. He likes to feel useful, and he will gratefully accept if you ask him to help you with whatever you’re doing - it gives him an excuse to be kind and helpful, but also spend time with his favorite person. Especially if you’re organizing/re-organizing something, he will enjoy doing it with you, or cooking - he might not be the best at it, but he delights in giving you a hand, and he likes to learn and improve new skills anyway.
MERRY: he is actually much more of an overthinker than he seems to be on the outside, so stress sometimes just generates outta nowhere! Also he isn’t the biggest fan of physical labor out there, but he is a little bit of a show-off when it comes to you, and he will go above and beyond when helping you with something or doing something for you, until he can barely stand. Afterwards he will take pride in the fact that you had to force him to stop whatever he was doing, but he was simply being so very nice to his favorite person! Something he loves to do to unwind in those moments is just come up with random stories with you, the two of you taking turns making up characters and events. He is a little bit of a baby and he will just take your hand wordlessly and put it in his hair, because it feels nice when you run your fingers through it.
PIPPIN: he will either be stressing over very small, irrelevant things, or something absolutely terrible, no in-between. If it’s something small, he has no problem rambling about it to you, and that usually helps him sort things out; but if it’s something serious, he will grow quiet. The best thing you can do for him in those moments is distract him with a silly idea like “let’s go for a walk and find as many kinds of blue flowers as we can” or just straight up make him laugh - it’s the best medicine. He wouldn’t ask you directly to do it, but he’d love it if you could just hold him or cuddle him for a bit (he’s the little spoon of course).
BILBO: oh he will get worked up over a whole bunch of random things; and when he is working on something, he goes all in (and then has a random episode of doing absolutely nothing), so you need to be the one who grounds him in reality sometimes. Just don’t startle him when approaching him quietly. He is very responsive to your touch and he will just lean into you as soon as you’re near, almost forgetting about everything else. He adores it when you hold his face in your hands and he will look at you as if hypnotized while you comfortingly reassure him that everything will be alright and that he doesn’t have to do anything alone as long as you’re around.
FÍLI: he is very big on “strong protective independent dwarf” and sometimes he doesn’t fully allow himself to rest properly, or to process some things that are bothering him on the inside. However, at one point it will all have to culminate, and then his first instinct is to shut himself off. A guaranteed way to get through to him is to kiss him senselessly wherever you can reach and it makes him subconsciously relax almost immediately. He will kiss you back passionately which helps him eliminate some of the tension he’s feeling. Additionally, he will never ever say no to receiving a nice little massage from you.
KÍLI: oh he is quite proud of himself if he ends up overworking himself for you, as if it gives him bonus partner points. You will gently scold him for pushing himself too far, and then he will pout, but you know he still doesn’t regret it. Then he himself will drag you away for a cuddle session - he chose that as his reward for being the very best partner in all of Middle-earth - but you don’t have to exclusively cuddle. He finds it very relaxing if you sing something quietly to him and he will look up at you with shining eyes.

Stuffed animal
Tumblr media
Pairing:  Legolas x Reader
Wordcount: 1210 words
Warnings: hurt to comfort; The fellowship being mean to reader
Summary: After the fellowship made fun of you sleeping with a stuffed animal a certain elf is there to comfort you.
Finally, you were able to rest a bit. Aragorn and Gandalf found a clearing in the forest they both agreed on resting for the night. So, the fellowship prepared their bedrolls. When they finished Sam began to cook dinner, Aragorn sharpened his sword, Gandalf watched how Boromir tried to teach the hobbits how to make a fire, Legolas rested with his eyes closed against a tree and you were preoccupied with staring at the elf across from you. You’ve had a crush on him since you first saw him at the council of Elrond. And how could you not? Long blond hair, icy blue eyes, a fierce warrior, you could rant about him all day.
“My lady,” Aragorn pulled your gaze away, while he gave you a plate of soup.
 “Thanks, Aragorn,” you responded gratefully.
“You know,” he began as he sat next to you, “you should just tell him, that you fancy him,” you nearly choked on your soup at his declaration.
 “I- what?”
“Come on, it is painfully obvious that you both like each other,” he left you stunned, to say the least and walked over to Gandalf.
Soon darkness fell upon the camp and the only source of light was the slowly dimming fire. The fellowship sounded asleep, so you slowly sat up and as quiet as possible opened your bag and pulled your stuffed animal out. You can’t sleep without it but felt ashamed of your little habit and chose to hide it from the others. As a woman it was hard enough to proof that you were capable of this quest. You cuddled against it and let the faint sounds of the fire and the snores of Gimli lull you to sleep.
You woke up to loud laughter from your friends. Groaning you turned to the other side trying to shut them out and get a bit more rest. But as your mind slowly came to its senses, you missed the light weight in your arm. Hastily you opened your eyes to see your little friend wasn’t anywhere near you. You hurriedly began searching for it through your things.
“Do you miss something?”  Gimli laughed at you, while he held your stuffed animal up.
“Our fierce warrior sleeps with a stuffed animal who would have thought of that?” Boromir mocked you. You looked around hoping someone would defend you. But the hobbits just laughed along, even Aragorn and Gandalf smirked at their cruel jokes and Legolas was nowhere in sight, he was probably looking for any danger ahead of us.
As the humiliation became too much and you felt tears threatening to fall you ran into the forest. You only stopped when your vision was too blurry to see properly. Sinking down with your back against a tree you buried your head in your bend knees, while you continued to cry.
Meanwhile Legolas came back from inspecting the further road. Thanks to his elven ears he heard the conversation, and he was furious. Because unbeknownst to you he also had his eyes on you since the day he first saw you.
“What was that?” Legolas asked in a stern tone.
“Oh, we just had a bit fun,” Gimli answered still laughing.
“Fun for whom? Because of what I’ve witnessed (Y/N) just ran crying into the forest,” the elf bit angrily back.
“Maybe it’s better if she’s gone. I mean if she still sleeps with a stuffed animal she can’t be of much help, can she?” Boromir piped in defending Gimli.
“She is a strong warrior with a kind and loving heart. She is a perfect addition to this company. She has proven herself often enough. We all know that. And besides everyone has something from home to remind us of it,” Legolas pointed out and everyone fell silent knowing he was right, „For example Gimli, you have your necklace with pictures of your family. Aragorn, you have your evenstar and Frodo, you have your mithril shirt. So why shouldn’t she be allowed to have something, that remind her of her home?” he went on in rage and the fellowship let their gaze fall to the ground in shame, knowing he was right.
“While I go looking for her, I advise you all start thinking of a good apology for her,” he said already walking in the direction you took off but not without your stuffed animal.
While he searched for you, he freed it from a few leaves that were tangled in the soft fur from sleeping on the ground until he picked up quiet sobs ahead of him.
The sight in front of him broke his heart your whole body shook with the sobs you desperately tried to muffle with your hand.
“I think you forgot someone,” Legolas spoke as softly as he could. Startled you looked up to see he was now sitting beside you with your little comforter sitting in his lap.
“G-Go away, Legolas,” it warmed your heart that he was trying to comfort you, but you do not want him to see you like this.
“So, you want me to return with your friend?”
“It’s stupid anyway,” you grabbed it and threw it away which shocked Legolas. The elf stood up and walked over to the poor animal to pick it up.
“I do not think it’s stupid. I actually think it is quite relatable,” you looked up at him to find there was no lie in his eyes and your stuffed animal closely held to his chest.
 “You don’t?”
“No, I could not for I too miss my home. Every one of us does and it is cruel to make fun out of something, that helps you,” the elf explained softly sitting next to you again.
“I got it from my parents when I was a child. It’s the only thing I still have of my family. They died
w-when I was young, “
“Which makes it even more understandable that you carry it with you,”
“You really do not think of it as stupid or childish? “
 „No, I don’t. I can’t think that of someone I love, “
he blurted out and started to lightly blush as he realized what he had said.
„Y-you love me? “ You asked kind of shocked.
He thought for a second what he should do now but decided for the truth.
„Yes, “ he whispered as he looked to his feet.
“I love you too,” you whispered back making eye contact with him when he looked up. You watched as a smile came upon his features and involuntary you mimicked him. Slowly he leaned closer to you but before your lips touched, he stopped.
“May I?” Legolas whispered looking down towards your lips. Instead of answering you closed the gap between you two. Trying to convey every emotion Legolas felt for you he kissed you back.
“How about we go back and give the others the chance to apologize to you?” He asked when you both broke away from one another for air. You nodded in agreement and stood up with the help of Legolas hand.  For the whole way back, he didn’t let go of your hand instead he looked at you with a smile on his face.

♡ ~ HOBBIT TRAUMAS (AND HOW YOU TAKE CARE OF THEM) ~ ♡ (4 Hobbits X Reader Preference)
a/n: No one would escape an adventure like the Fellowship had unscathed, especially not if you were an innocent, good-hearted, fun-loving hobbit.
My take on the traumas the 4 hobbits would have after the adventure, and how you, reader, help them deal with that.
P.S. -This is my first-ever writing post in Tumblr... and also my first-ever posted fanfic-type-thing! It's just a bunch of headcanons right now - maybe I'll take one of the ideas and turn it into a drabble or something later. Feedback is the best thing ever, and I would love to get any that anybody has!
P.P.S. - Shoutout to @wordbunch, who's LOTR writings I absolutely adore, and whose post formatting I basically used as a cheat sheet, because I'm a totally clueless newbie. So thank you! I hope that wasn't out of line for me to borrow 😕
Frodo
Sometimes he can still feel the crushing weight of the ring pulling on his neck or weighing on his chest, and you catch him absentmindedly rubbing one of these spots
So you, you special person, find some excuse to give him a neck rub or a back rub
Because you absolutely cannot stand seeing him trying to hide his discomfort like this
You know openly calling him out on it will just remind him of all that happened to him, so you have become a Master of Subtlety and Distraction
Whenever you catch him staring into the distance, you know it is Time to Remove Frodo From His Own Head
So
Distractions ensue
Namely:
Surprise hugs
Randomly launching into stories or rants that you know he won't be able to help listening to
(Because the sound of your voice is not-so-secretly one of his favorite things and he will listen forever)
Offering to read to him (we all know this is Book Boy, so what better than having his favorite tales read aloud by you?? His favorite narrator??)
You make him cups of tea as he writes his book
When he sees you smiling in the doorway with a mug in one hand and the scent of his favorite leafy brew drifting out of it, it just makes his day because…well, you.
You just think of him too much and he can't handle it lol
Sam
Never
Ever
Ever
Try to put this poor boy around spiders
Ever
(yes I love this HC, idk who came up with it and I can’t remember where I saw it but it’s basically canon in my bran now)
He cannot stand them, not even in the garden anymore. You can see how he stiffens and twitches every time one of those ugly eight-leggers scuttles across his path and instantly know how much restraint he's using not to kill it on the spot.
Spider in the house? It's all you, Y/N
You know he would try to face it down for you and you alone
But you can't stand seeing him go all cold and shaky at a little garden spider
So you often remove them before he can even notice because peace in the house is a nice thing to have
He also has alarming levels of self-doubt sometimes because of how he thinks he's misjudged things in the past
But luckily for him, he has you
You are there to support him and are always advocating that he is strong and makes solidly good choices
And you know what? You are his world, so he believes your every word.
He drinks those affirmations up like there is no tomorrow
And you are happy to continue on as his supplier till the end of days
Merry
Personal HC that when his arm is burned after stabbing the Witch-King, he gets phantom pains not dissimilar to Frodo's
It's almost like nerve damage - he'll be fine one minute and drop whatever he was holding the next, or his hand will start twitching in weird and sometimes disturbing (to him) ways
This is Mr. "Nothing-Bothers-Me-And-I'm-Fine", so naturally, it bothers him quite a bit that one of his appendages refuses to follow orders on a regular basis
It's something that he tries to hide from you - pretends it's not there, BARELY jokes about it.
If Merry Brandybuck ain't joking about it, you aren't either.
Sometimes you hear villagers mentioning it in hushed whispers, and you (badass) shut them up before a single one makes it back to Merry
Because you know that's what he'd do for you, so you absolutely do it for him.
And you know he secretly appreciates that you don't fuss over it, because he doesn't want to feel different or incapable. It helps, for him, that you treat him like just the same person he was before (because he is duh) and nothing has changed and he doesn't want or need to be coddled.
Not saying you do, but you might sometimes give this particular arm a little extra love and affection. Massaging his hand, tracing circles on his wrist, and just letting him know how dead cool you think his scar is.
Because, really…how many people have changed the fate of Middle Earth and have something to prove it?
Your Merry does, that's who. And you'll never let him forget how amazing and brave he is.
Pippin
Pippin is constantly awake in the dead of night
Because he's haunted by wild nightmares
And you're the first and probably one of the only people he would turn to for comfort
So guess what? You're up too, holding him close to you in the dead of night while he tries to calm down
Sometimes he tells you what the night mare was, sometimes he keeps silent and just wants to lay next to you. You know he'll tell you in his own time if it's right to.
This little hobbit is such an empath, he really took to heart EVERYTHING that happened on his journey
And he thinks that way too many things were exclusively his fault
Gandalf's death? His fault.
Merry getting hurt (because he got them separated and wasn't there)? His fault.
Boromir's death (because he didn't know how to fight)? His fault.
Again, you know better than to push, but you know the content of a lot of his nightmares revolves around his contributions being insignificant, his actions causing people's injury (or death), and how badly things could have played out because of him. It worries you, how much brainspace he gives to these things.
So you keep him close to you. I mean that both literally and figuratively. He's not shy about taking the physical comfort he needs (honestly I don't think he's aware of the concept of personal space), but he gets tripped up trying to talk about his own feelings
So you just give him his space, all the time he needs, and bottomless snuggles
Because contrary to what he thinks, a lot of things went right because of him, and you can't tell him enough how much he means to everyone (and you. most importantly, definitely you.)
Thank you for reading, if you made it down this far! I hope to post some actual writing soon, if I can find the time to sit down and put my Writer's Cap on. I am considering opening requests! At this point I don't know who will see this r how it's going to do, so we'll see how things work out :)

modern lotr character headcanons
characters included: aragorn, boromir, gimli, legolas, pippin, merry, frodo, sam, arwen, eomer, eowyn
word count: 745
summary: random thoughts abt lotr characters if they lived in modern times
a/n: this is literally just silly shit, enjoy
Tumblr media
boromir listens to old country (conway twitty, george jones, loretta lynn, etc.) and does not tolerate anyone insulting the opry legends
he also listens to divorced dad rock (hinder, nickelback, theory of a dead man, etc.) which gimli will sometimes jam to as well
gimli lovingly maintains an old-as-dirt bench seat ford truck despite there almost constantly being something wrong with it. ignores legolas’s badgering about him getting something more reliable
obviously legolas drives a hybrid and he almost acts as if this fact makes him better than gimli (not in a dickish way, though)
horse girl aragorn.
frodo is the epitome of shy emo boy with the black skinny jeans & death cab for cutie playing in his air pods
merry is the golden retriever in the “golden retriever in love with the black cat” trope
aragorn and arwen host game nights and various other parties for their friends, but neither of them can cook so they just order delivery (or sam hijacks their kitchen for the hours before)
pippin has a large follower base on social media bc of his drinking songs and other inebriated antics that are usually recorded by whoever happens to be with him that night. usually it’s eowyn & merry, and the three of them will shake some major ass to megan thee stallion
sam goes to open mic nights at local coffee shops to people watch. he will never perform himself, but it’s nice to watch people he knows do their thing
eomer accidentally goes viral on tiktok when eowyn records him doing some dumb shit. never lives it down
the amount of joy gimli gets from going to rage rooms is almost alarming
arwen has a very thorough skin care regimen that she introduces to aragorn, and it becomes a sweet nightly routine for the two of them
eowyn & eomer don’t allow anyone to talk shit about or annoy the other bc that’s their job fuck you very much
frodo has a shitty immune system but sam’s homemade soups seem to always heal from the soul outward
sam is the little spoon favored by the resident neurodivergent
frodo is the resident neurodivergent
yes they’re dating
arwen is always the dd
when it comes to birthdays, don’t ask boromir to remember anyone but faramir’s. hell, he forgets his own birthday sometimes
legolas is the best at remembering the birthdays of his friends but forgets his own
they have to remind each other of their own birthdays when that time of year comes around
merry is always the favorite audience member at a drag show
arwen & eowyn never dress like they’re going to the same place when they hang out
gimli says southern grandpa idioms unironically — “as useless as a screen door on a submarine”, “higher than eagle titties”, “busier than a one-legged man in an ass kicking contest”, you get the idea. merry keeps a running tab of said quotes
boromir is the “we’re not getting a dog” dad. said dog ends up being his best friend & the sole inheritor in his will, fuck them kids
aragorn & gimli have their own moonshine still they think is perfectly hidden from everyone
that does not include merry & pippin, who are booze bloodhounds and immediately knew where to find it but swore to secrecy as long as they got more than everyone else
frodo sips fruity little drinks because he can’t shoot whiskey
sam can drink in the way only a divorced middle-age man can despite not being a divorced middle-aged man
eowyn cannot drive for shit & the several dents on her car prove it. the only reason her insurance hasn’t gone up astronomically is because she just. doesn’t report any of it
said car has a fuck ton of bumper stickers with all sorts of silly things
gimli can’t ride a bike AT ALL but has a motorcycle, make it make sense
he goes on bike rides with eomer when they have the time & the weather is nice
merry & pippin are two halves of a whole idiot at every given moment
eomer LOVES 90s and 00s country music but is kinda picky about newer country (he is a massive fan of cody johnson but will throw you through a wall if you talk about morgan wallen in his presence)
arwen dances in the rain & literally never gets sick from it. merry is insanely jealous of this fact
frodo’s favorite video game is animal crossing: new horizons & has very sound opinions on what villagers are the best (fuck you, rodney)

IATCOD Chap. 28; Plan in motion
*Author's note*
This was a chapter long in the making due to life getting in the way but I finally got around a week ago to finally get this chapter done. Not a lot of action in this, just some plot settings to get ready for the main action that'll happen the next few chapters. But I hope you all enjoy this chapter no matter what. And yes I had to use the death whistle from Puss in boots the Last wish so credit goes to Dreamworks for that.

_________________________________________________________________
After Cain had returned back to Hela's chambers and told everyone what Druig had suggested, there was silence in the room. Everyone pondering in concern, fear, and denial.
"And you're sure there is no other way?" asked Gandalf.
"It has worked one other time. With Fili and Kili sons of Dis, nephews of Thorin Oakenshield. Hela gave to them the very gauntlets she wears that holds our kins celestial stones. When Sauron took full control over her body, the stones used both their bodies as a host to banish Sauron's spirit from her very body before releasing them."
"Bofur and my uncle Oin did tell me that tale when I was still a lad. Never before had they been both in awe and struck with terror at the sight of what happened that night."
"I too was there when it happened. Never would I have thought that two Dwarves could hold the power of nine Celestial gems and live." Said Legolas recalling that night at Bard's house.
"But Merry still needs time to heal. He's not ready." Proclaimed Pippin worriedly.
"And the raw power of a Celestial's stone is nothing to be trifled with. I have seen what gripping a celestial stone can do." Aragorn said with a distant yet horrified look in his eye as he remembered one incident with some wild men in the North when they came to take out the remaining members of the Dúnedain.
The chief of the wild men had foolishly thought he could take Thena's stone for himself to enhance his weapon's strength and durability. But when he went to take the stone from Hela's gauntlet after ripping it from her arm, his body began to crack and burn like firewood.
His screams sounding like something both unholy and holy at the same time. His eyes became soulless white and gold until his body exploded into a pure light before Hela managed to contain Thena's stone once again.
"How do we not know that the same could happen to Merry if he takes hold of Druig's stone?" continued Aragorn.
"He wouldn't have suggested Merry if he didn't feel some sort of connection to him. Trust me Aragorn, I don't like this either but we are running out of options and out of time." Cain said as thunder rumbled once again and the red lightning began to flash in the sky once more. Cain and Aragorn turned to Merry and Aragorn said to him.
"The choice is yours Merry." Everyone turned to the hobbit who still looked exhausted from his Black breath recovery. Merry slowly stood up, Pippin tried to help but he held his hand out to refuse help. He slowly walked to the center of the room and said to everyone present.
"Since starting this quest back in the borders of the Shire, Pip and I had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. But even then I didn't care, all I wanted was to see Frodo away from the danger. Only to find out that he must bravely face the danger himself to destroy the biggest threat to our home. And Sam, loyal hearted that he is, he willingly without a second thought vowed to go alongside Frodo even if it costs him his own life. Boromir died to save Pippin and I. Without a second thought, he kept bravely fighting until his last breath took hold. I have lost—many of my friends, and thousands-nay millions more all over Middle Earth will suffer if Hela is not awakened. If there is a chance to free her from her curse, I'm willing to do whatever it takes to play my part in saving Middle Earth."
Everyone took to heart of what Merry had to say. He walked back over to Druig's stone and called for him once again. The black onyx stone glew bright until a golden light shot out once again and appearing before him once again was Druig.
"You have made your decision." He spoke down to the young hobbit.
"I have." Replied Merry.
"Then what say you, Meriadoc Brandybuck?" Merry took a deep breath before exhaling through his nose and he said.
"How do we save Hela from herself?" A slight grin came across Druig's face then he told Merry.
"Take my stone within your hand, once you feel the full strength of my power coursing through your body, press the stone to the crown of your head. And we shall become One mind, One body, One soul."
"You both shall become one? But will Merry still be there? Your soul won't overwhelm his?" asked Pippin.
"He has accepted the terms young Peregrin Took." Druig said turning towards the other hobbit. "Time is of the dire most essence now, and we must bring her back now before it is too late." Druig's spirit then shot back into his stone and the glow of the stone faded.
"He's right Pip. If we're going to do this, it has to be now. If Hela is truly dying from this spell, Druig and I need to act now. And we've already lost a day already." Merry and Pippin looked at each other then after a moment of staring at each other, Pippin gave him a nod.
"Pippin, come join us." Cain said as he took out his knife and he slide the blade across his palm. Pippin walked over towards the others who were now starting to huddle on the other side of the room.
Using his blood, Cain drew along the floor a Celestial rune circle to protect everyone within the tower from any Celestial power outbursts. Everyone stood within the circle while Merry stood over the table where Druig's stone rested.
He turned to the others as Cain now began to wrap his wounded palm and he gave the young hobbit a strong nod. Merry nodded to him and took a deep breath as he reached out and took the stone within his bare hand.
As he grasp the stone into his palm, Merry's arm began to slowly crackle open like lava seeping through Mount Doom itself, he fell to his knees in agony as the power of the Mind celestial began coursing through his veins. But he kept a firm grip on the stone as well as holding his enclosed fist with his free hand.
The group watched in despair as Merry was forced to endure this pain alone. Pippin softly whimpered and said.
"We have to make him let it go! He's hurting can't you see he's in such agony!"
"No Pippin, we cannot interfere at this point." Gandalf warned him as he held him back.
"Merry?" cried out Aragorn. Merry continued to grunt and cry in agony.
"Merry talk to us." Cain ordered. As Merry continued to groan and pant in agony he finally spoke up.
"I'm fine. I'm alright." Slowly he raised his enclosed hand as he felt the full power of the Mind Celestial coursing through his entire body. But even with such power coursing through him, it was causing the gem to feel so heavy, he could barely lift his own arm.
However Merry knew he had to do what Druig had told him. Using his free hand, he guided his enclosed fist towards his head and with a cry, he open his palm and pressed the stone into his very head before a flash of light and wave of red energy shot out hitting the barrier but knocking down all the furniture in place. Then Merry fell onto his back with a thud and Druig's gem embedded into his very skin.
"MERRY!" cried Pippin as he ran through the barrier. Everyone crowded over him but Cain warned them.
"Don't move him!" Gimli held Pippin back as both Gandalf and Cain knelt over the unconscious Merry. Cain used his enhanced senses and could hear Merry's heart beating normally. "His heartrate and breathing is normal." Gandalf waved a hand over Merry's face.
"And his spirit is still in-tact." Suddenly Merry's eyes shot open but they glowed the same golden light that Druig produces whenever he used his mind controlling abilities. Cain and Gandalf backed away as did everyone else as Merry now stood up but there was a difference to the way he stood. He looked down at his hands and he said.
"I almost forgotten what it's like to have an actual body."
"Is that you Druig?" asked Cain.
"No, it's Sauron. Of course it's me." He turned over to Pippin and said, "And don't worry Pippin, Merry's still here. I just need to take control when performing the spell. However I do need to request something of you all. Performing this spell, requires my full concentration and power. Both Merry's body and Hela's will be completely defenseless, so someone needs to stand guard over us in case time runs out." They all turned to one another before Haldir spoke up.
"I'll do it." Everyone turned to him and Haldir said as he looked to Cain, "It's what Hela would've done for me." Cain nodded.
"I admire your heart and loyalty to my sweet Hela, but you'll need a better weapon than your own. Take Aeglos and place the tip of the blade to Thena's gemstone. It was once the host of her powers, and should any Deviants come to the tower seeking her or my power, you'll need the power of the Celestial of War to aid you." Druig told him. Haldir nodded then Merry walked over towards Hela.
He stood over the head of the bed and placed his hands on each side of Hela's temples. Golden light emanated from his palms and bounced between his palms and Hela's temples which also began to glow. Soon the small glow from Merry's eyes grew bigger until his whole eyes were nothing but a pure golden light.
"It's happening. Now it's up to him and Merry. The rest of us will continue to get the people down below and prepare for the Deviants as well as the Celestials of Sauron's attack." Said Cain. As the others began to leave the tower leaving Haldir alone, Cain said to him, "Haldir," the march warden turned to him. "Take it from someone who has tasted vengeance for over 2 Ages. When Nergal shows himself, do not engage him alone. You will wait for us to aid you in taking him down, understood?" Haldir turned his head with a narrowed, hateful look in his eyes. "Understood?" Cain asked in a firmer tone.
"Go help the others in getting the people to the lower levels of the city. They've suffered enough at the hands of a leader who could care less about them." Haldir said as he went over and took Aeglos from Hela's side.
Cain turned but had a suspicious look on his face as he left to join the others to help evacuate and prepare Gondor for the oncoming Deviants.
Within Hela's mind, both Druig and Merry walked through a dark chasm with the only light coming from the very floor they walked upon. However the floor itself was a sea of souls glowing a pure blue light.
"Is this really what's inside Hela's mind?"
"We're only at the gate. Everyone has their own unique gateway into their subconscious." explained Druig.
"So what is it that we're looking for?"
"A tree. A very large tree."
"A tree?" asked Merry unsurely.
"Being the Mind Celestial I've come to see that in everyone's mind, no matter the race or species, the gates of their minds hold a very special tree to which I've called them the Tree of Life. Each branch representing a person's memory or thought. It's what makes them the person or creature that they are. And if my hunch is correct, Hela's tree may not look like it once was." As they treaded through the ankle-deep water, Merry began to grow weary of the souls that were moaning and weeping.
"Who are all these people?"
"The souls that had been lost but could not move on. Remember Hela is the bridge between the Seen and the Unseen world. Souls pass through her in order to move onto Mandos' halls, even under this spell they continue to come to her. But they're trapped here until she gives them her blessing."
'You are correct.' A voice spoke up. The boys stopped and Druig stood in front of Merry protectively as a spirit soon raised itself up from the water before taking the shape of King Theoden.
"Theoden King?" Merry gawked.
"Hello Meriadoc." He then turned to Druig and said, "And you must be her twin brother Lord Druig. Hela told me many stories of you and your sister Makkari the Speedster when I was a lad." Druig nodded and Merry said.
"Theoden King, we're looking for Hela's Tree of Life, can you take us to it?"
"I can but I must warn you. The spell that has imprisoned not only us but Hela herself has grown too strong. If you dive too deep into her mind, you too may also suffer the same fate as she."
"That's a risk we have to take. I won't leave here without knowing my sister will be okay." Answered Druig firmly. Theoden's spirit looked at both of them as Merry gave him a strong nod.
"Very well." He faded back into a spirit ball and began the light to guide them through the darkness and towards where they needed to go. Eventually they came upon a grand willow tree that stood nearly as tall as Treebeard himself, but just as Druig had thought, the lush green vines had been dried up and were starting to crumbling.
Within the vines were small thought bubbles that would normally be as bright as bubbles should be, but they were now dimmed and grey with faded memories hazed over.
"This is Hela's Tree of Life?" asked Merry.
"Yes. But it's worse than I imagined it would be." They walked up to the tree as Theoden's voice spoke to them.
'Remember, dive too deep and you too may suffer the same fate as she. Though I do hope you are successful in returning our Hela home. Good luck.' His spirit then dove back into the sea of souls. Merry walked up to the tree and touched the main trunk. He could feel just how malnourished the tree was.
"Any ideas on how we can fix it?"
"It's not up to us, it's up to Hela. Only she can mend her own Tree."
"But how are we going to find her?" Druig walked around Hela's tree until he had found what he'd expect to find. Glowing in a haunting green and black aura of magic was a large mushroom that was attached to one of the roots of Hela's tree. The light pulsating and almost sounding like a heartbeat but what had Druig in awe was the mushroom was showing a vision much like Hela's thought bubbles on the vines of her trees had.
"I think I might have found her." Merry came around and knelt down beside him. The two of them stared at the mirrored image of what looked like a large green pasture (much like the Shire) and Hela was out folding laundry. "You ready for this?"
"Let's do it." Answered Merry. Druig took his hand and together with their free hands, they reach out and touched the mushroom all while their eyes glowed a pure gold. The second they touched the mushroom, the black and green aura shot out like lighting trying to fend off Druig's and Merry's touch. Both the Celestial and the Hobbit groaned and cried out in pain but they kept a firm hold on the mushroom. Until they were encompassed by the green light.
"Merry? Merry! Wake up!" Merry's eyes shot open and he saw Druig kneeling over him. "Easy there halfling." Merry held his head in pain as he let out a small groan.
"What happened?"
"We got absorbed by the curse and sent into this false world. I must say I'm impressed by your mental stamina, any normal person would've crumbled by now. Think there might be a future for you being a Mind Celestial." Druig held his hand and helped Merry onto his feet.
"Hela once said I would make a clever one."
"And for myself I can see why she said that." Merry gave a slight smile before asking.
"Now that we're here, how do we find Hela? This place is nearly as big as the Shire."
"We just start walking. Hopefully we'll come across her. And we may just find out just what exactly this curse is doing to her." The two then proceeded to walk once again onward this time through the peaceful green pastures.
Back in the real world, Cain was standing along the very edge of the city where Denethor had leapt to his death. He could sense the very change in the air from the darkened clouds, the difference in the lightning and the very air seemed denser as if a dark spell had once again been placed over all of Middle Earth.
"We've gotten the last of the civilians gathered in the lower caves. And Faramir and Gandalf finally managed to work out the protection spell Hela had made for the city. It should be up later tonight." Aragorn said behind him.
"With all that Denethor allowed to happen, this city doesn't need to suffer twice at the hands of a bigger threat than orcs, trolls and wargs." Said Cain. Aragorn stood beside him and said.
"They'll find a way to bring her back."
"It's not bringing Hela back that I'm worried about." One look on Cain's somber face and Aragorn knew what he meant.
"You fear for Haldir's mental state at losing Hela."
"Grief—is a powerful feeling. Especially if it's fueled by rage. I may not be able to physically see his eyes but I can sense his heartbeat. His deep, sharp breaths through his nose, and the anxious ticks he's now been having at the tips of his hands, especially since he took hold of Aeglos."
"You fear he might turn into what you became." Cain solemnly let out a deep sigh. Aragorn placed a hand to Cain's shoulder and he told him, "He may not know it now, but he'll need your guidance before the end. Who better to understand what he's going through, if you can find the way, he will too before the end."
"I hope so Aragorn, I really hope so." Aragorn turned and headed back inside the palace leaving Cain to stand alone once again. However Cain felt a dark presence behind him and he withdrew his axe and his blade soon met with another and a voice said to him.
"You can even sense Death coming for you. Impressive."
"Deimos." The two of them uncrossed their crossed their weapons. "Why are you here?" Cain sneered lowly in the tone he's always used for those who were impure of heart.
"Apologizes for interrupting your little brotherly love session with Isildur's heir, but I had to come see for myself what wasteful plan you all have tried to come up with to save yourselves." Deimos chuckled sinisterly.
"You underestimate them. Even in their darkest hours, until there is no hope remaining, the Fellowship and the people of Gondor will continue to fight till their last breath."
"It's a waste. You cannot save them from the inevitable. Without Hela's power, the Deviants will take each race of Middle Earth, one by one until all is nothing but shadow and stone."
"And what do you three get out of all this in the end? If all is meant to be shadow and stone, what will you and your brothers do?"
"What Perses and Nergal want is up to them. I, however, have a different score to settle." Cain heard as Deimos unsheathed his second sickle. "As I'm sure you're aware, each Celestial while cut from the same cloth based on one's powers, there are the Celestials gifted with sub-level powers. A power solely focused to one main power."
"Yes. Like those celestials who could only control one element, or be able to see into the future."
"Hela had her time to be the high Celestial of Death, but she missed the whole point of her existence entirely."
"How so? By teaching that death shouldn't be feared? That it is another path to the next life."
"That! That right there!" Deimos snarled in distain. "You actually believe that death is a merciful, that it's something to be fully embraced and accepted like how you view Life. No, no, no. Death should be feared, uncertain, and permanent." He emphasized on the word permanent as Cain could feel his red eyes cutting right through him.
"You've come for me." Cain realized.
"Now you're catching on." Deimos then began to circle around Cain like a predator, eyeing him as he continued, "When you were brought back by the desperation of your brother Ikaris, you didn't value what he had given you. And while I find the very idea of resurrections and reincarnations absurd, what I loathe more than anything in this world are those who think they can cheat Death."
"As you said, it wasn't my choice to be brought back to life."
"You don't think I don't know how throughout the first 100 years of your banishment you tried to end your own life? And yet with each time, you survived."
Cain's heartbeat escalated, the hairs on the back of his neck stood on end, a cold chill ran up his entire body. He could hear the blades of Deimos' sickles cut across the cobbled stone beneath them.
"But here's how we can rectify all of this. When the time's right, I will come for you, and you and I shall face off in a duel to the death. See who truly has the blessing of the Valor on their side. You do that, and I swear to not harm a single hair on anyone else's heads."
"You really think I'll trust you to do that? After the way you beat Haldir and Hela nearly to death."
"A mere demonstration for what I have in stored for you. They were just so I could get to you. You agree to fight me, and death will only come for you." Deimos then let out a soft yet haunting whistle and when Cain turned around, he could sense that Deimos was gone, only hearing the brief whistle before it too was silenced.

Almost as if he had been strung up on strings, he collapsed to his knees, his heart still racing in such fear that he only felt when he came before the Nine Nazgul.
In Hela's mind, Merry and Druig continued walking along the grassy over hills until they came to a quaint little cabin. To Merry it almost resembled Frodo and Bilbo's home of Bag-end with a similar green circular door but it was a big-people sized home.
It had a small front deck with a porch swing, and the front yard was covered with wild flowers. A gazebo that looked exactly like the one in Lothlorien stood at the side of the cabin.
"Is this what Hela dreams about?" asked Merry.
"She was never one for riches or grand castles. When we were children, she always said she'd get herself a cabin and plant wild flowers as far as the eye could see." Said Druig. "But even so, this is still a prison so don't get swept by whatever you see. Remember Theoden's warning." Merry nodded as the two of them soon heard the sound of arrows being twanged from an bow around back. They heard the arrow hit a target so they came around to see someone who looked like Haldir doing some target practice.
Instead of the normal Marchwarden uniform or even armor, he donned on a simple dark green tunic and grey trousers. Haldir notched another arrow into his bow and released it and it split the arrow that was already in the target.
"Can he see us?" Merry quietly asked.
"No. This is an illusion, they usually can't see nor hear us."
"Even if this were an illusion, we Elves can hear the flutter of a humming bird's wings 10 leagues away." Haldir actually responded to them. He turned towards them and greeted with a warm smile and a bow of his head, "Welcome Merry, and back already Druig? It's not even been 20 minutes since you left." Merry looked up at Druig worriedly. While Druig's eyes expressed shock, he turned to Merry and told him telepathically.
'Just follow my lead.' Druig cleared his throat and said, "Well you know how it is. Big brothers and all, can't leave you two alone for one second."
"Even after all this time we've been married, you still can't trust us alone. Though I can understand, being an older brother myself. What can I do you both for?"
"We're actually here for Hela. Is she in the cabin?" Merry asked the Haldir illusion.
"Unfortunately you won't find her in the cabin. At this time of the day she's down at the farm just over that hill. What do you want with her?" there was a hint of suspicion to this fake Haldir's tone but Druig plainly said.
"Just received a message from Keoghan about the Midsummer's ball tonight. Apparently Kingo once again burned the cake and they need Hela's help since she is the best baker out of all our kinsman."
"Very well. But I must warn you, one of the cows just recently gave birth. She'll be on the fight if you anywhere near her pen."
"Thanks for the heads up Haldir. Good day." The two of them bowed to Haldir the Mind Celestial bow before heading over the hill where Haldir said the farm was at. "Tell me you caught the way he got suspicious on why we needed Hela."
"I did. There was also something in his eyes that gleamed the same color as the spell that shot out around us when we touched that mushroom on her Tree."
"You are indeed a clever hobbit Master Merry." They soon came up and looked down at a large farm. With large shire horses running freely around the wooded area in the back, large mountain dogs helping log around eggs, crates of apples and corn, and ducks and chickens waddling about the farm grounds.
As they walked through the farm grounds, they heard soft humming coming from the stables. They slowly walked in and soon found Hela brushing a white stallion's mane humming softly.
"Hela?" Merry called out to her. She jumped and smiled.
"Merry, this is a surprise. I wasn't expecting you till next month for Pippin's birthday. And Druig, back so soon. Let me guess, you thought Haldir and I were having another sweet rendezvous at the gazebo that you walked in on just shortly after we began courting." At that openly suggestive statement, Druig's cheeks went red as he said.
"No but thank you for that unholy image that is now seared into my brain." Hela giggled and said as she stroked the stallion's nose. "So what brings you both here?"
Merry turned to Druig wondering if they should break it to her now since looking at her, it seemed like they had found the real Hela. Druig was torn because the last time he had seen his sister this happy was when they were children. After Sauron came fully into power by the time the three of them came of age, Hela always held such a burden on her shoulders. Like the weight of the world fell on top of her weighing her down and taking her innocence away bit by bit until all that was left was a hollowed shell.
Here she seemed—happy, relieved even. No wonder why she's refused to awaken from such a dream. But he knew she had to, but they had to approach it delicately at first.
"Keoghan reached out to me halfway on my journey telling me that Kingo burnt the cake for the midsummer's ball again." Hela let out a sigh and shook her head.
"That Kingo, he can put on a show with Sprite but when it comes to drawing or cooking, he's hopeless. And I thought Apollo had banished him from the kitchen?"
"He did, and that banishment is still in affect but you know how Kingo is."
"He always finds a way." Both he and Hela said together. "Sorry Snowmane, afraid this grooming session's gonna have to be cut short." Snowmane huffed and let out a shocked whinny. "Don't blame me, if I don't go stop Kingo, he could blow the whole castle up." she got out of Snowmane's stable and walked pass Druig and Merry. "C'mon, we better get a move on. I'll have to tell Haldir first of where I'll be heading."
"Actually we just told him that before we came to find you." Merry said.
"Oh well okay then. That's one less thing to worry about." As they stepped out, Hela raised up her fingers and let out a sharp, loud whistle that almost resembled an eagle's scream. They waited for a bit until finally a real eagle's cry was heard and swooping down was Hela's great eagle Icarus. "Hey Icarus, think you can carry Merry to the palace?" he let out a soft trill before lowering himself down for Merry to climb on.
Druig nudged the hobbit forward and Merry raced up and with Hela's help, mounted on top of the great eagle.
"But what about you?" asked Druig.
"Why would I need Icarus to fly?" Hela's normal dress soon morphed into the Starlight Celestial armor. "Being born a Starlight Celestial, I never need aid in flying again." As Hela shot up onto the air like a shooting star, Merry and Druig looked at each other worriedly before Icarus soon took off following behind his mother and Druig used his levitating powers to fly right beside Merry and Icarus.
Another night was passing even through the dark, thunderous clouds that covered all of Middle Earth. Gandalf, Aragorn and Cain all stood along the balcony near the throne room as Cain said.
"One more day to go, and the Deviants will return to Middle Earth."
"Any word of Merry and Druig's progress?" asked Aragorn.
"I had just met with Haldir, no changes." Gandalf replied solemnly. "I know Merry is strong and Druig is powerful but I fear they may not bring our Celestial of Death back in time."
"We still have time." Aragorn stated. "All we can do now is give Merry and Druig the aid they need. We've coded the protection spell, the second we see those demons appear, we activate the spell."
"It won't just be the Deviants we'll need to worry about. Nergal, Perses and Deimos will also need to be stopped. I fear their goals are more than just what Sauron had intended for them. And if they try to stop Merry and Druig from helping Hela, Varda help us all." Cain said as thunder once again rumbled in the sky and red lightning flashed in the sky.

Fireworks- Merry Brandybuck x OC
Merry Brandybuck x  Brooke Bilberry
Description: Brooke attends Bilbo and Frodo’s birthday party and experiences a different kind of fireworks with Merry than she expected.
Word Count: 1.9k
Brooke arrived at Bilbo and Frodo’s birthday party at precisely 1 p.m. with her father and mother by her side. They showed up just in time for luncheon, so everyone was already at the previously set up tables filling their plates and eating merrily. It didn’t take her long to find one of the birthday boys, and a grin appeared on her face. After saying a quick bye to her parents, she began making her way over to one of the tables.
“Frodo,” she called softly, effectively catching his attention. The boy was sitting with Sam, Adelaide, Merry, Camelia and Pippin as they talked and ate their fill, but conversation was cut short when they heard her call his name. He grinned and stood to greet her with a hug as she reached them.
“Afternoon, Brooke,” he greeted happily.
“Good afternoon Frodo, and happy birthday.” Frodo’s face flushed red and he grinned shyly, muttering a thanks.
“Where’s your uncle? It’s his party as well, I would assume that he would be in attendance,” she added, glancing around at the guests. The boy shrugged.
“He’ll be here soon, he said that he was going to greet some of the more ‘important guests.’ I thought that everyone was an important guest, but oh well.” That made the girl giggle and she shook her head amusedly.
“Well, take a seat,” he instructed softly, taking his seat once more. “Merry was saving this seat especially for you.” The boy in question was quick to smack his arm, shooting him a warning look that Brooke didn’t notice as she blushed.
“Oh he was, was he?” She responded teasingly, looking at Merry. He looked like he was ready to disappear then and there, but smiled at her nevertheless.
“Well of course, you’re the last to show up and I doubt you wanted to sit with the Proudfoots, did you?” Brooke shuddered dramatically at the thought as she took a seat.
“Definitely not,” she answered dutifully, making the others around her laugh.
“I believe a thank you is in order then,” Merry said indignantly. The girl shrugged then leaned over to kiss his cheek without a second thought. That gave the boy pause and his blush deepened as he stared at her with wide eyes.
“What?” She shrugged innocently, leaning back in her seat. “Was that not a good enough thank you?”
“No,” Merry said too quickly to be believable. “I-I mean...uh, yeah. I suppose it was good enough.”
“I believe that this may be the first time I’ve ever left Meriadoc Brandybuck speechless,” Brooke giggled out. “This day is even better than I thought it would be.” Merry rolled his eyes at her and shook his head.
“I’m not speechless,” he shot back defensively. No one was buying it though. The boy huffed but was quick to cross his arms in an attempt to look nonchalant and leaned back in his chair. Maybe it would have worked if he hadn’t leaned back too far and his chair fell backwards. The entire table erupted in laughter as Merry sat up. He shot them a sheepish smile as he set his chair upright and retook his seat.
“Are you okay Merry?” Though Brooke was laughing as she talked, she was genuinely worried about him, and he could tell.
“I’m fine,” he brushed off with a small smile. He’d take the bruise to his ego if it got a laugh out of her.
“Well, now that we’ve had our daily dose of stupidity, why don’t you eat something, Brooke,” Camelia suggested, gesturing to the food around them. The girl thanked her friend as everyone began eating.
Luncheon came and went along with afternoon tea and dinner. Supper hadn’t quite arrived yet so everyone filled the time with dancing. Brooke sat at the table merrily watching Adelaide dance with Sam and Camelia pull Frodo away to dance. Gandalf stood off to the side with children surrounding him as he fired off small fireworks. She stood when she realized that the wizard was giving away what looked to be sticks. Nothing was ever as it seemed though, especially with Gandalf, so she made her way over to them. The wizard was quick to notice her and offer her a kind smile as she reached him.
“Would you like a sparkler, Miss Bilberry?” He inquired, holding out said object as he talked. The girl stared at it for a moment before taking it and looking up at him.
“What does it do?” Gandalf grinned mischievously.
“Just watch,” he answered. He didn’t give her time to respond, instead tapping the top of the sparkler with his staff. Immediately it lit up and began shooting out small sparks. Brooke gasped delightedly as she stared at the sparkler in wonder. A jovial giggle left her lips as she began dancing around, though her eyes stayed on the wondrous object in her hand. Faintly she could hear Gandalf chuckle before he moved back to his wagon to grab more fireworks. She continued to dance until a familiar voice caught her attention.
“No, no, the big one,” Merry scolded, which made her turn around. He was standing behind Gandalf’s wagon staring at something, probably whoever’s feet were hanging out the back. Her brows furrowed as the unnamed person handed him what looked to be a red firework in the shape of a dragon. Turns out it was Pippin who laid in the back of the wagon, she realized, as he popped up and climbed out of the wagon. He grabbed the firework then ran into the tent shortly followed by Merry, who glanced around to make sure no one had seen them and took a bite of an apple.
Brooke instantly knew that they were about to cause mischief, when were they not? It was quite obvious. The absolute last thing she wanted was for the party to be ruined by their shenanigans, so she quickly dunked her sparkler into a nearby bucket of water before running after them. She could hear them arguing about something as she opened the tent flap.
“Boys, what-” she didn’t get the chance to finish her question because a loud gasp left her lips and she fell to the ground as something whizzed past her ear. She covered her head as the firework the boys previously swiped launched straight out of the tent (as well as taking it with it) then looked up as it flew out over the open water and exploded into the shape of a dragon. All she could do was stare in shock as everyone in attendance at the party cheered. Her head whipped back around as the boys hopped up, soot and firework residue covering them.
“That was good,” Merry spoke cheerfully, neither of them having noticed the girl still on the ground.
“Let’s do another one,” Pippin added in the same tone shortly before Gandalf walked up behind them, seizing them each by the ear and making them cry out in surprise.
“Meriadoc Brandybuck, and Peregrin Took,” he said in a reprimanding tone. “I might have known. Well, I hope you got your fill of the night, because you’ll be put to work.”
“What?” Pippin exclaimed.
“What for?” Merry complained. The wizard lifted his chin a bit then huffed.
“Well, ruining the finale firework for one thing, destroying this nice tent,” he answered, ignoring the boys’ protests as his eyes landed on Brooke when she stood. “And ruining Miss Bilberry’s lovely dress.” He gestured to the girl, which made both Merry and Pippin’s eyes snap to her. Rather than meet their gazes, her eyes trailed down to her dress to realize that Gandalf had in fact been right. Her pretty yellow dress that she had gotten specifically for the party had been ruined by the soot and sparks from the firework. Her cheeks heated up in embarrassment and she felt humiliated tears filled her eyes. Merry couldn’t do much more than utter her name quietly, but she opted to ignore it and look at the wizard behind them.
“Uh, would you please wish Bilbo and Frodo a happy birthday from me please,” she requested in the most polite way she could, attempting to keep her voice steady. “I’m going to go home and clean up.”
“Very well, goodnight Miss Bilberry,” Gandalf responded, offering her a sympathetic look. She returned his words, lip finally quivering as her eyes met Merry’s sympathetic ones. She said nothing though as she turned and began making her way out of the back of the party so no one would see her messy state, her head lowered shamefully.
Thankfully Eru offered her mercy and no one noticed her departure. She got home in record time, trying not to just sprint inside and stay in her house for the rest of eternity. Words couldn’t even describe how she was feeling, but mortification was a very good guess.
As soon as she got inside she took off her dress then put it in a tub of water to soak then took a bath. She stayed there until the water was cold, scrubbing away any soot left on her skin and hair. Afterwards she washed as much as she could out of her dress before ultimately deciding to stop for the night.
Just as she was getting ready for bed, she heard a knock on her door. A deep sigh left her lips, she was not in the mood for any visitors. Nevertheless, she walked over to it as another round of knocks sounded on it. She pulled her robe closer to her as she carefully opened the door just a crack, revealing Merry still covered in soot. Her eyes rolled at the sight of him and she huffed.
“What do you want, Meriadoc?” She inquired tiredly, earning an apologetic smile from the boy.
“I- uh...well, I wanted to apologize,” he responded softly. Brooke raised an eyebrow incredulously at him.
“Can you please open the door just a little bit more so I can see you?” He questioned gently. The girl hesitated for a moment, but she knew that the guilt would eat away at Merry if he didn’t do this now, so she opened the door a bit wider. This gave her a better look at him, and she realized that he still had soot on his face, hair and clothes, which told her that he had come immediately from the party.
“Alright, you’ve seen me,” she opened up her arms for emphasis. Merry offered her a weak smile then sighed.
“I’m really sorry Brooke,” he started. “Me and Pip hadn't known that you were in the tent too, and we didn’t know that you had gotten dirty until Gandalf saw you.” He smiled awkwardly then looked down, and Brook realized he was holding a plate of what seemed to be cake. A small sigh left her lips as she considered his words. It was true, they obviously hadn’t seen her come in, so she couldn’t really be angry at them.
“Very well, I forgive you,” she muttered, offering him a smile. That visibly brightened the boy’s mood and he looked at her once more.
“Uh, sorry I came by so late. Gandalf had us washing dishes as punishment,” he muttered shyly before holding out his hands. “I brought you some lemon cake, that’s still your favorite, right?” Brooke nodded eagerly.
“Want to come in and share it?” She inquired, opening the door fully. Merry wasted no time in stepping inside and following her into the dining room. The night may have started out as a disaster, but things could always be made up with cake.

how the fellowship reacts to you singing...
a/n: this was requested - how the fellowship members react to you singing for the first time. It will include the fellowship boys + Faramir, because I adore him and he needs more love. let me know how you liked it! 💗💗💗 (it will be longer than you think lol)
+ tagging my beloved @entishramblings
Tumblr media
ARAGORN
at first he wasn’t sure whether his ears were deceiving him
but he stopped and listened carefully, eventually realizing it was you
then all his attention went into listening to you
he very much enjoyed it, but waited for you to finish your little performance before saying anything (didn’t want to interrupt you, nor make you feel awkward)
he wouldn’t be giving you elaborate compliments and praise, just something short and to the point, but you’d see in his face that he genuinely loved it
he likes to listen to you sing, but also sometimes loves to join you and sing together!!!
wants to learn all the songs you know
💫
LEGOLAS
with his excellent hearing, he picked up on you humming tunes quietly as you walked, many times
and he found even that very pleasant
but when he heard you fully singing for the first time he had heart eyes, basically
he thought you have the most angelic, soothing yet powerful voice
he would never ask you to sing anything for him and wouldn’t want to push you, but he would enjoy it so much when you do
he wants to know where you picked up all the songs that you know
his absolute favorite thing is when you quietly sing while braiding his hair!!!!!
💫
GIMLI
an absolute fanboy of yours, openly
as soon as he hears you singing, he wouldn’t only divert his attention only to that...
but he’d make sure to point it out to everyone else as well
I diagnose him with singing off-key, butttt he still wants to share some dwarf songs with you, and you appreciate it
would be the kind of person to be like “now [Y/N] will sing something for all of us” skhssdhgsh
you know it’s all with the best intentions even if you feel self-conscious about your singing
but this guy right here would hype you up so much that eventually you wouldn’t even care how your voice sounds to others
💫
BOROMIR
he compliments the heck out of you (for singing and everything else)
however he would try not to openly praise you for it to everyone everywhere bc he doesn’t want to make you uncomfortable
keyword: he would try not to
he cannot sing so he appreciates your talent all the more
can’t help smilingggg whenever he hears you!
very grateful that you’re comfortable with sharing that part of yourself with him
if you ever actually sang in front of a crowd at some celebration or special occasion, this man would combust of pride
💫
FRODO
can’t help smiling as soon as he hears you, and he immediately recognizes that it’s your singing voice, even from further away
will sneakily approach you so as not to startle you
but he definitely wants to hear more
very curious about where you learned to sing and how you picked up all the songs
it’s a safe haven when you sing something to him, he will literally be in seventh heaven
loves to write and he would be beyond thrilled if you sang some poem that he wrote, but he wouldn’t actually ask you to
enjoys singing together with you
💫
SAM
is generally easily captivated by beautiful and magical things, your voice absolutely being one of them
will ask you countless times to sing again (but he will be quite shy about it every time)
gives you ideas on what you could sing about
he gives you cute little compliments but wishes he could express all that in a much more elaborate way
it brings him incredible joy to hear you singing from somewhere while he’s gardening
he swear it makes everything grow bigger and more luscious
God forbid anyone makes even a slightly negative comment about your singing, he is ready to throw hands
💫
MERRY
jaw drops to the floor when he hears your singing voice
this boy is captivated
smooth compliments that make you blush
why can I see him dancing/trying to dance to whatever you’re singing
potentially he’s not THE best singer out there but oh my does he love singing with you
especially spontaneously, out of nowhere
yes actually he would totally dance around when you sing, and he would dance around with you and spin you around until you’re so out of breath that you can’t sing anymore but instead just laugh heartily
💫
PIPPIN
generally worships the ground that you walk on, and that also implies all your talents and abilities
absolute heart eyes as soon as he hears you singing
(he already loves just listening to you talk, let alone anything else)
ADORES when you two sing together, but initially just a bit shy to suggest it, or to just spontaneously join you
will he come up with songs for you? absolutely
songs for you two to sing together? ABSOLUTELY
would never, in any way, push you to sing in front of everyone else, he actually enjoys it being like a lil thing between the two of you
💫
+ bonus FARAMIR
he heard your voice echoing in the Gondorian halls as you were carrying out some tasks
he was almost convinced it was a sound from heaven
but he followed the sound of it and found you!
you were a tiny bit embarrassed but he complimented you immediately
he finds it very relaxing when you sing to him and it’s so intimate to him
he will occasionally write poems and cautiously ask you whether you can make up some melody for them and turn them into songs
not the best singer, but loves to join you sometimes
💫
+ bonus bonus character GANDALF
“[Y/N], stop with the unnecessary noise, I am trying to think”

Can we get this but with Merry? 👀
I feel like he would definitely try to act like a brat but folds almost immediately </3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Merry tries to fight his lover so hard. He always tries to get out of punishments by bending the truth.
He will pout when it doesn't work, and he's laid over his lovers lap and spanked. His face is flushed and his eyes are red and teary. He's so mad about getting in trouble but he has no one to blame but himself.
Merry will beg and cry so much his voice goes hoarse, this just adds to how pitiful he is.
His cock aches and his stomach hurts from how much he's cum. Poor thing is dripping with sweat, babbling and asking for more.
When his lover would say to ask them nicely, he goes back to pouting. This remedied by pinching the tip of his cock. He'll whimper and break easily, using his manners and saying 'please' and 'thank you'
He can be trained to be a good boy, it just takes some time.

merry brandybuck, ‘nightmare’
Tumblr media
through the entire night, you tossed and turned, attempting to find a comfortable position. there was no luck in finding comfort when fear was heavier on your mind than sleep, much like your friend frodo.
you were discreet when hiding your uncomfort, especially while legolas was only a few feet away standing guard for the current moment. nearly everything that was a potential threat crossed your mind, but you tried to subdue it until actually needed to be a concern.
"(y/n)," your brother whispered, despite you thinking you'd hidden your sleepless night, legolas was not a fool.
quietly making your way over to him and sitting down on the grass next to his feet, much like you would when you were a child.
"why do you thrash around like something is bothering you?"
"because something is bothering me."
he didn't speak, which was his way of saying 'go ahead.'
"what happens if we do not help frodo destroy the ring? what will happen to the hobbits? aragorn? us? what about gimli? gandalf?" before you could notice, you began rambling on and on which legolas let you air out any concerns so he could shut them down at the end.
"do you not have faith in any of us?"
"it's not that i don't, i just fear that sauron's efforts might be more than what we're expecting."
"you're wise to acknowledge that, but it's best if you don't. the ring will be destroyed once frodo throws the ring-"
"have you not noticed how the ring has already affected the poor boy?"
"i have, but he is strong."
neither of you spoke, he was letting you process the idea that worries were insignificant in the grand scheme of things. you sat there, staring at the dirt and attempting to think of something to say but he eventually cut off your thoughts.
"go to sleep, muinthel." he ruffled your hair as if you were a little kid.
rolling your eyes and standing from your seated position, you began walking back to where your items were when you heard him ask, "why did you mention the hobbits first in your worries?"
you spun around quickly, looking back at him but he already had his back to you. heat rose to your cheeks, but luckily no one was awake to hear it. even if frodo was awake, there was no way he was worried about whatever legolas had to say.
the night after that you felt would go by just fine, especially seeing that legolas shifted your attention towards a certain hobbit.
meriadoc brandybuck.
you weren't sure how legolas knew about your crush, but that was besides the point. you'd been flirtatious with the hobbit since you first met him in rivendell. he was ruffling through your bag with pippin, they both argued that they thought it had been left behind as if you'd not just left the bag to go talk to lord elrond.
from that moment forward, you'd been smitten. he would flirt back but would often get pulled away into other more serious matters, like his dear cousin getting scolded by gandalf.
you weren't quite sure how you, an elf, could have such strong feelings for the hobbit. you often flattered yourself with using aragorn and arwen as an example, knowing neither of you quite fit those standards.
as you began thinking more and more about the potential of a relationship with merry, you began to doze off and eventually fall completely asleep. it only lasted for what felt like a few minutes until you woke up in a cold sweat.
frodo put the ring on his finger one last time. you stood next to sam, begging frodo to throw it but he wouldn't. sam had tears on his face, and he looked as if he'd just went through a lifetime of military battles.
'frodo, please.’
the look in his eye was dangerous, he began to march towards you with his hands out as if he were going to strangle you. with that image in your mind, you woke up.
a loud gasp escaped your lips and the figure that was approaching you jumped a little. your breathing was hard and rigid as you tried to make yourself become back in touch with reality.
"(y/n)," they kneeled down next to you, "it's okay, you're okay."
merry grabbed your hand gently, afraid to alarm you too much. when you finally realized that frodo hadn't been tainted by the ring and that you were still where you were when you fell asleep.
"merry?"
he hummed in response, "don't worry, it's only me. everyone else is still asleep, aside from your brother."
he knew mentioning that legolas was only a few feet away would be more comforting to you than anything. you glanced to spot him, and there he was. he hadn't strayed too far from where he was earlier when you spoke.
"do you wanna talk about it?" glancing back over to merry, you shook your head.
"not about that," your breath was still shaky, causing your words to be the same as well. you could tell he wanted to talk to you, but he understood if right after waking up from a nightmare was not the time. he began to get up but you gripped his hand before he could go anywhere, "but i still want to talk."
he put a finger up as if he was saying 'hold-on.' you watched as he nearly hopped over pippin's sleeping form to grab his satchel that he'd been using as a pillow, and then nearly trampling pippin again to come back to you.
that was another thing about your crush on merry. he could always make you laugh, no matter what mood you were in prior.
he sat down next to you, "what do we wanna talk about?"
you grinned, trying to hide your previous fears behind humor. you placed a finger on your chin, acting as if you were going to ponder on a topic.
"tell me about your life before you got wrapped up with this."
he began telling you everything. and that means everything. the poor hobbit started at the first moment of his life as a baby. he went on for ages, but you weren't complaining. it was interesting to hear about how hobbits were raised, seeing it was far different than how you were.
once he arrived at present time, he asked you about your life. you started the story as he did.
"well, my father is the king of the elves of-"
"king?"
"do you want my father's life story or my own?"
his face became red, but you could only giggle. you heard your brother chuckle beyond the trees, but continued. you told him about everything, and explained why you are so close to your brother. he was amazed at how eventful your life had been, and for an elf, you were very young.
he had a question about nearly everything, and would often find himself getting way too happy about your accomplishments for you.
"do you consider legolas your best friend?"
"the only person i really know is legolas," you smile, "he's not too bad, so i guess that is a yes."
"well you have us too!" he beamed, "us as in me, pippin,-"
"hm, legolas may be a tad better." you teased, trying to get a reaction out of him.
"yeah, but can your brother do this?" he started to get up to show you something, but you answered with a quick 'probably' that made him chuckle.
it wasn't until then, you realized how loud you both were being.
"merry, get over here!" you whisper yelled, trying to get his attention as he ran towards aragorn's sword that laid on the ground next to him.
he stopped in his tracks and looked back at you, seeing that you were smiling so he knew he was doing something right. instead of grabbing the sword, he came back to you and sat down again.
"are you feeling okay?"
you nod with no response, instead moving to lay back down. he mimicked your actions, going to lay down as-well. he noticed you had nothing to lay your head on, "a princess shouldn't have to lay her head on the ground."
you blushed at his comment, and he stretched his arm out to put it around your shoulder. your head rested perfectly on him, and you placed your hand on his chest.
the two of you laid in silence for a moment.
"merry," you paused, waiting for a sign that he was still awake.
he hummed in response again.
"thank you."
"you don't need to thank me. i just needed you to smile again."
with that, you both fell alseep in each other's grasp. that was until the next morning, which you'd not though of the reactions of the others.
the morning sun caused your eyes to flutter open, and the first thing you saw was a wide-awake pippin. he sat criss-crossed next to you and merry as if he was a lost puppy, wanting attention.
"good morning, (y/n)!" he grinned, "it looks like you and merry enjoyed each other's company last night."
"good morning pippin.."
