MENTAL HEALTH MONTH
It's mental health month, but for those of us with mental health, it's a daily battle, that will not end this month or next, and for some of us even in our lifetime. There are issues in the mental health community going on 24/7 right now. in 2022. Right now, in order to apply for a job, I have to put down that I am bipolar and if i don't and they find out I can legally be fired for an illness I didn't ask for, and that cannot be cured, it doesnt matter if i can control my symptoms or not. I got rejected from the military and cannot legally serve my own country because I am bipolar and a " liability." The majority of therapist will not take you if you are diagnosed with Borderline Personality disorder because their suicide rate is highest out of all the diagnosable mental illnesses and there is so little information they really know about it to date. It is close to impossible to get a diagnosis for Hoarding disorder and Doctors don't have many coping mechanisms available or have a cure for that either and it is an illness with the LEAST amount of information available on it for sufferers. Anxiety, though one of the most common mental illnesses is often mistreated with medicine that does not target the anxiety but rather makes you so numb you are stuck in a perpetual state of tiredness. When I take a mental health day off, its considered lazy and not productive. When i literally cannot breathe in Walmart im "making a scene." If i publicly talk about my battle with mental health im " seeking attention." when i talk about how PTSD still gives me daily nightmares im told, " you were a child, get over it." and when i use my platform to reach out and speak up, im told im making my mental illness my entire personality. We have been shamed, silenced, and forced to accommodate for YOU, for far too long. as children we are taught to act like you, talk like you, when we suffer in silence you tell us we should speak up but when we speak up its too loud, or too real, or too depressing, and we are silenced yet again. Things need to change, and conversations need to happen. We should be able to discuss our mental health just as freely and without shame as any other aspect of health. we should encourage doctors to find out more information of the diagnosises we suffer with, and we should spread real information instead of stigmas and stereotypes. every single one of us CAN make a difference if we want to. We can inspire change in the mental health community and in the world if we just start speaking up, and spreading factual information. Just talking about it helps, and spreading awareness helps. Lets do our part to make change for our children and their children because i am terrified of bringing a life into this world who will have more than an 80% chance of the same mental issues I have, a mental illness they didnt ask for, and is currently not curable, because they are genetic. and if they have to suffer the same injustice in their society as i do, my heart would break. We have to make waves now so that they dont have to.
