maintaining joy and building a lifestyle or habits that can sustain joy is important for mental health. even though circumstances may arise, im a firm believer that hope is possible and you can be happy.

POSITIVITY ;
if ur someone with a negative mindset in general and you wanna change it to a more positive mindset here are some ground rules..
let the little things slide - don't worry about the little things, dont stress over something that isn't worth stressing over. that includes letting the little things that you have done slide too. dont beat yourself up about something that you've done before. thinking "ugh why'd i do that" is useless. instead, flip that thought to "what can i do to improve if i find myself in that situation again".
surround urself with things that spark positivity - surround urself with things that u love and the things that make you smile. and enjoy the little things/tasks that u do. ROMANTICIZE.
giving out some -> reaping double - when u give out positivity. encouraging words, compliments, even a simple smile, you get that DOUBLED. it actually helps so much to be sweet to others and compliment others and its even sweeter for you bcuz it brings so much happiness.
TAKING YOUR POWER BACK ;
dont give anyone or anything the power to make you unhappy. ofc there are circumstances that are unique to everyone but in general dont let someone else's bitterness or negativity influence ur own happiness. protect your energy. bcuz you are responsible for making u happy.
REFLECT ;
have self identity audits every now and then to keep yourself in check. to make sure that ur following thru with ur goals or that ur balancing ur distractions properly. and also, reflect on whats constantly draining ur joy or what u are doing to drain ur joy. some things that can drain you include..
social media detox - although social media has lots of positives, we cannot ignore the negatives. social media provides a false sense of connection that we crave (cuz human beings are social creatures) so taking a break from social media every now and then a couple times a year rly improves ur mental health in the long run.

some things that can feed into ur joy can include..
gratitude - practicing gratitude without comparing your own achievements to someone else's. just being present and grateful for what u have.
laughter - learn to laugh and smile at things instead of getting worked up about it. laughing is such a mood booster.
literally ANYTHING, you know urself best and u know what makes you happy and what makes u smile so whatever it is that does that for you, DO that.
DO THINGS THAT ARE REFRESHING ;
doing things that are refreshing and replenish ur energy is a game changer for ur mental and emotional state and happiness. some refreshing things to do alone include..
watching the sunset/sunrise
meditation
journalling
practice self care
do something that u used to love doing
dance (it helps mentally too, taking u from rigid -> fluid)
DISTRACTIONS ;
when your constantly striving for perfection and you put all this pressure on urself, you'll end up growing into a bitter person, and thats not hot. so allow yourself to have distractions and have experiences and try new things bcuz thats what life is about.
however go about this with DISCERNMENT. allow yourself to have distractions that aren't harmful to you or others. an example of an unhealthy or harmful distraction is drinking. you can enjoy those things but enjoy them SAFELY. dont be too uptight with yourself and LET YOURSELF LIVE. but in that same breath protect yourself and get rid of whats taking away from ur happiness.

Baby no, I promise you no one is mad at you. We are all so very thankful for you, and happy to just talk to you. We are proud of everything you’ve done and all you’ll do! You don’t owe anyone anything, you do what you feel is best for you because health is the most important thing there is and that includes mental, physical, emotional, ect. You take as many breaks for however long you need. We will always be sitting right here for when you’re ready to come back each and every time. You’re doing your best at everything you can, and that’s all anyone can ever ask of you, no one is perfect and that’s a good thing otherwise we’d all be boring bland people. We like you and stick around because of you as a person, your personality, and your big heart. Babe you’re doing everything right and you do whatever you need to, to feel your best. We all care for you and will be with you through everything and that includes all the breaks you need to take because you are human like the rest of us and let’s be honest we all need breaks time to time which makes us normal. Life isn’t supposed to be easy it’s supposed to have ups and downs, we’ll all stick with you through your ups and your downs because we all know you would do the same for us. if ur not black and u have to log off for a while for ur mental health, dont make it a big to-do. dont make a post like "keeping up with the news is so exhausting im gonna be logging off for a while guys :(" or "i cant handle the negativity in the news right now so im going offline for awhile :(" like that just makes u look like a privileged ass. taking care of urself is important but u dont have to make a post. just like any other day, ur allowed to just not be online for a few hours. i promise no ones gonna question it. no ones gonna be trying to hunt u down and demand to kno why u havent been posting #blm every ten minutes all day long with no breaks to eat or sleep or live ur life. u can just.... quietly log off

I’m a major procrastinator and I don’t know what to do anymore I think I’m setting myself up for failure :/ Got to love Gifted kid burn out
anon actually i relate to u a lot !!! i’ve definitely burnt out this year i went from being a high achiever and top of my classes to failing and not coming in for half of the days of the week. i don’t know, i suppose a lot of personal things piled up at once for me and it took a toll on my grades which in turn took a toll on me BUT!!!
recently i’ve been trying to improve my mental health and make the effort to attend school and stuff but i think sometimes fun things make it easier to not procrastinate. my attention span is horrible, i can’t even sit without wanting to distract myself but these things have worked for me and hopefully they work for you too !!! :D
p.s. i know you didn’t ask for tips or anything but i really want to help and make recommendations and stuff pls take care of urself <3
1. habatica !!
i’ve only had this downloaded for a while but i feel more motivated to do my tasks knowing if i don’t do them then my avatar goes through damage 💔💔
it may sound stupid to some people but if it motivates me it’ll never be stupid. set yourself daily goals and tasks and you get points for your character and can buy extras like clothes and accessories. it also helps you start to decrease bad habits and it helps you maintain your good habits :-)

2. having trouble studying ??? video call with a friend
i do this occasionally for psychology classes, i find it easier to video call a friend and ask her what task she’s on whilst i’m working. i’m more inclined to do my work so me and her can learn together when we do recall questions at the end of our sessions
although i find it easy to slack off by myself i can’t slack off around others because i’m so conscious of how people see me. that can be seen as a negative but i take it as a strength. if i’m so conscious i should take it as a chance to finish as much work as i can
if you don’t have a friend to work with then try a sibling or maybe try actively explaining what you’ve learnt to a parent or person you know. i do this with my mum so she knows i’ve been studying and she tends to be way nicer to me when i do so ;-)
3. give yourself a rewards system
you deserve fun >:( for every achievement or goal you meet reward yourself. watch a movie you’ve been dying to see, go outside with some friends after exam season has passed, buy that book you’ve been eyeing for a while !!!
for me i use kdramas, anime, podcasts and true crime videos as my rewards. i’m only allowed to watch episodes after i’ve done some work
4. take breaks
i know it must feel like you have to overwork yourself but doing a little at a time is more beneficial and easier to manage. you deserve breaks don’t make yourself think you don’t.
if you need a day to yourself give yourself that day to relax i assure you it’ll make it easier and you’ll feel lighter and more likely to do work
5. what motivates you ???
who or what motivates you ?? who are you doing this for ?? what are you doing it for ?? by finding out the reasoning behind your actions you’ll have a clearer mind for sure.
when you’re down what specifically motivates you ?? i find that without fail yoongi’s words comfort me and again whilst some people may find it stupid it still works for me so who cares really ?? i feel happier and more motivated and it works so 😎

6. if it makes you feel good to tell people what you’ve done in the day do that !!!
tell a friend or a member of your family everything you’ve done in the day. it feels good to tell people how long you’ve studied and all the topics you’ve learnt.
if you have no one willing to listen my inbox is always open feel free to tell me what you’ve done i’ll be proud of youuu
7. do not overwork when you’re exhausted and be honest about how you feel
don’t beat yourself up over tasks you haven’t done because you were exhausted. your body needs a break and if you ever feel the need to have a mental or physical break as i said before go for it. you are your most important asset not your grades.
i hope when you feel mentally strained you can reach out to talk to someone. it’s not good to bottle up your stress, letting everything out helps you. if anyone ever needs to talk my ask box is open but i know school causes lots of stress. don’t feel like your feelings aren’t valid or other people “have it worse” than you.
if you don’t like opening up to people like me (i find it so hard to open up a ha ha 😎😎😎) then i advise you at least acknowledge the way you feel. don’t ignore signs of exhaustion.
okayyy i think that’s it but reminder that you’re great. i know how it feels to burn out and i wish when i was going through the worst of it that someone told me they believed in me. so anon i believe in you and i hope you can believe in yourself too :-)
remember grades aren’t everything. seriously you may think they are but they really aren’t. i just hope we can all be happy some day !!!

HEY YOU!!! yeah!! you!! happy birthday! if it's not your birthday then... you still deserve to go out and treat yourself. or if you don't want to go out then make sure you get plenty of rest and drink lots of water, and don't forget to eat and have a day for your mental health! that's really important. go and buy yourself a cool pair of shoes or pants or accessories to match your awesomeness. you're absolutely amazing and anyone who says that you're anything less than great is absolutely wrong. you deserve happiness.

hey, sorry to ask, but what did happen to george floyd? i havent been on the internet in a while bc i was taking a mental health break, and my parents only allow fox news in our house and theyre shit, so czn you please inform me?
hey anon, so this is a really sensitive subject so if you’re taking a break from social media for mental health (which is a good idea props to u for recognizing that and taking care of urself) then im gonna put a massive trigger warning on this ask and on looking through any news sources right now for: police brutality, rioting, racism, and murder. Be informed but be careful and take care of yourself.
George Floyd, may he rest in peace, was a black man from minneapolis, minnesota who was murdered by a white cop on monday. His death was caught on video and its very upsetting to watch so i do not recommend watching it. The cop knelt on his neck and he told them he couldnt breathe while another pig stood idly by and watched it all go down. The teen (yes it was a young teenager) who caught it on camera has also come forward about the trauma she experienced having to witness it.
There are now protests against the minneapolis pd going into i believe their second or third day, which are also being compared to the 1992 LA riots. There has also been news coming out about undercover cops committing arson and firing loose shots and blaming it on the protesters as a reason to make arrests and claim it as a riot so they can tear gas innocent protesters. I dont know how reliable these sources are but i do not put them past these people in the slightest, it unfortunately does not surprise me that these bastards would do something like that.
These are the facts that I have been able to gather from news sources and first hand accounts from protesters on twitter. If you can, i do recommend reading up on the news because staying informed on these topics is important.

Another thing that i’m going to add is today in Toronto, Ontario police murdered a black woman, Regis Korchinski-Paquet, may she rest in peace, in her toronto home by throwing her off a 24th storey balcony and are trying to call it a suicide. Her mom watched it happen and has spoken out about it. There is no national news coverage yet. Canada is not better and to pretend as such is to validate canadian colonialism and fascism.

thank you sm for the kind word!! ;;; i believe in you too! i know we got “practice makes perfect” ingrained in our heads, but also learn when to take breaks so you don’t burn yourself out and prevent from injuring your hand and/or wrists. learn to listen to your body, your health is important!
and do hand stretches (i use this video it’s rlly easy to follow)!! i shud do it more often than i do now but it rlly does help. good luck, keep drawing and take care of urself to be the best you can be!
and i guess a footnote: im by far not the healthiest person n cant keep up w schedule for the life of me but taking care of yourself will b better for you in the long run. usually i take days or weeks at a time not drawing and yea it feels unproductive but keeping my tablet unplugged is more time for my hands to rest.
creating art under a lot of stress is not fun at all and can lead to burn out or worse mental strain. take care of ur needs first n foremost

Hey, I saw something that someone said to you a day or so ago, and I know it's kinda late, but I just wanted to say:
It's awesome that you care about people. Wanting to help people is great and doing that is amazing. But you should never put someone else's needs before yours. You shouldn't. And yeah, it makes it harder to help people when you aren't okay, so if that's the best incentive for you then there you go. But in reality your health matters. You can't take care of everyone and if helping someone is taking away from you then you need to take a break from them. Don't put other people before you, it's not worth it.

I absolutely hear you fren, and I think it’s super important for a lot of people to hear this. personally,,, I mean helping people makes me feel better. like worth something I guess. it rarely takes away from my own mental health, and it gives me a distraction. but like. ppl should know this. n I want my friends to know that if you’re struggling don’t feel like you have to help me please. I would much rather you focus on urself. thank u daisy <3 sorry if this makes no sense I have zero braincells
