Would you ever be interested in DM’ing (for DnD or any other TTRPG)?
Yes! I've only done it once for a one shot and I greatly enjoyed it, but I'm a bit intimidated with the rules etc for dnd. Maybe bitd, a system I know a bit better? But probably only really capable of one of those simple rulesets. But yes!

Shuffle your on repeat playlist and list the first 10 songs that play, then tag 10 people.
This is going to be a crapshoot of my Bleak Mid January playlists I fear.
🤠 Glen Campbell - Guess I'm Dumb
Love me some Glen and this perfectly encapsulates the blurring of soul and country music.
🌸 JJ Cale - Magnolia
Read a book last year that had a section on JJ Cale and I've been obsessed with this album ever since.
✈️ Paul McCartney - Jet
Unapologetically love this song. What's not to love about a song that goes woowhooooohoohoohoooo
🖤 Tia Blake - Black is the Colour
Ooh a folk deep dive. Her voice is so poignant.
🏡 Carole King - Home
Carole my beloved. Tapestry was one of the first albums I ever really loved.
🌌 Odetta - Every Night
If you have never heard Odetta, run don't walk.
🗣 Fred Neil - Everybody's Talkin
Just an all time classic. Every version, any time, any where.
🎩 Elton John - Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters
Top tier Elton John song imo.
💔 Elizabeth Cotten - I Don't Love Nobody
One of the most shamefully underrated Black female guitarists.
🥃 Father John Misty - Nancy From Now On
"ohhhhh, pour me another drink and punch me in the face" is a) one of the greatest opening lines ever and b) such a mood for January.
I will tag: @septemberrie @lustrouswhite @just-two-blokes @myalchod @combatbootsfemme and anyone else who fancies it!

writer interview
I was tagged by @vaynglories, @lynne-monstr and @la-muerta all at one point or another. Thank you all kindly, sorry it took me so long! 💗
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
120 unique works. I have two double entries from when the old Yuletide archive was imported to AO3, so the total on my author page is 122. It's missing any fic I wrote before 2005 but honestly I'm fine with those being lost in the mists of the internet. If you know, you know.
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
1,004,161.
I didn't actually wait to do this meme until I passed the one million words mark, but I also kinda did.
3. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
bodies full of untold stories (malec, E, Shadowhunters) / 1,343
an act of faith against the night (malec, T, Shadowhunters) / 1,037
House of Ash and Salt (dorian x bull, M, DA:I) / 995
Walkers of the Winding Path (malec, E, Shadowhunters) / 933
Talking With Strangers (malec, E, Shadowhunters) / 930
4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I used to and it's my one continuing regret that I haven't been able to catch up with my inbox! The greatest reason why I currently seldom reply to comments is that I have such a backlog. The other reason is that I will either answer comments or write more fic, and I'm sure everyone rather that I do the latter. Still, I miss the conversation around fic that replying to comments often generated.
I mean: I need more writing friends and goddamn, please talk to me because I feel detached from fandom and it's the worst thing.
5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
Probably to make the saints attend them long (malec, T, SH) which ends with extremely heavily implied MCD.
I tend to write hopeful to bittersweet endings, so this was a rarity for me.
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
Define happy ending? I do have one, all souls sheltered, (dorian x bull, T, DA:I) which IS the soft epilogue I wanted those two characters to have after all their toils and troubles.
These two questions mostly tell me that most of my endings don't fit well on the happy to sad scale. I tend to leave characters at points where they can look forward to the future and any acute crises are over, but I really wish "happy for now" or "a happy middle" would stick as ending descriptions because that's where I live.
7. Do you write crossovers?
I write fusions? Not traditional crossovers but I have a very niche fic thing where I take Alec and Magnus and stick them into the worlds of videogames I love. To wit, the Witcher (Walkers of the Winding Path) and Final Fantasy X (Servant of the Spiral).
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Yep. Didn't much care for it.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I do! I've written my share of PWP but more typically the process goes something like this:
I find a kink/trope/sex situation I want to try writing
the fic grows copious amounts of plot/worldbuilding/interpersonal drama (exhibit A: the tentacle porn that came with 3,000 words of, uh, creature logistics so I could have tentacles)
I spend two years working on bullet point two before the characters ever get naked in each other's company
My smut fic tends to the tender/longing/emotional, though. I use sex mostly as a vehicle for character exploration or to drive the drama of a story, so most of my sex scenes pull double duty to also move the overall story forward.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge. I'm a pretty niche writer in most of my fandoms, I don't think you would make either much fandom fame or big bucks with my writing.
11. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes! to make the saints attend them long is translated into Italian.
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
No. I'm a slow writer and I have to hew out writing time from the bedrock of my RL, so it wouldn't be very conducive to sharing a creative project, even though the basic idea appeals to me.
13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
I was gonna make a joke about being asked to rate my children, but tbh I would rather not refer to fictional characters by any family term. However! I have changing obsessions and there's always some ship or canon that is eating up my brain at any given time, but I don't really get over ships. The details of canons fade with time but characters live forever in my heart.
Back in the mists of time, Ichigo and Rukia changed who I was as a person. (Then I added in Renji and It Got Better.) I adore Alec and Magnus but the fandom was categorically A Lot. Same with Dorian and Bull. Josephine and Cassandra were a total crack ship in the sense that there's no canon but I still love the idea of an f/f lady/champion pairing.
And right now I have two competing wuxia ot3s vying from my attention so. This is not a question I can answer.
14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
My general fic writing philosophy is "whatever you can, whenever you can". I've made my peace with the fact that sometimes I'll start a thing and post a bit and then it simply won't get finished. Fic is free and no one has to click on a WIP (much as I love those people who will!)
So, unfortunately there's a few old WIPs on my ao3 that I don't think will ever get wrapped. The older the fic, the less likely it is. I keep them up as testament to the process, I suppose, or in case anyone likes the idea enough to read whatever I managed of it.
15. What are your writing strengths?
Putting canon under a lens until I have a mental Wall of Crazy with ten thousand interconnecting red strings and obscure notes, and then wringing story out of elements in the text that might not seem to connect on the surface.
I know sometimes you have to just wholesale go "this makes zero sense" and drop a bit of canon, but what I enjoy is taking bits and pieces and adapting them to fic. My current project is writing all the Mu Nihuang POV she really kind of doesn't get in Nirvana in Fire itself, and I am having a blast.
Also: character voice, action scenes, evocative description, setting up an emotional punch and taking you out with it 2,000 words later
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
I'm slow, picky, and obsessive. I have to be In A Mood before I can put words to paper (I'm trying to combat this by becoming more of a garbage goblin about my first drafts. All words are good words! Hissss!) I'm bad at humour unless I'm accidentally funny.
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
It can be used to good effect but it's best used sparingly. I would generally always prefer that plot-relevant or important dialogue were simply, "This is the murder weapon," she said in French. Don't withhold information or emotional impact for the sake of showing off.
And oh god, never, ever put dialogue through MTL and expect it to come out right. If you absolutely need dialogue in a foreign language, consult an actual person that speaks it.
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Very technically, ElfQuest. For actual published fic, Rurouni Kenshin.
19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?
Mysterious Lotus Casebook tickles my brain but I don't yet quite know what I want to write about! I have enough trouble herding the rowdy cats that are my NiF ideas right now.
20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?
Always the one I'm working on. So much of the joy of fic is bound up in the good creative rush of making it happen. Just as so much of the woe of fic is in the fucking toil of making it happen.
Anyway! Flowers in Dreamland Weather (jingsuhuang, E, Nirvana in Fire) got me out of a slump and gave me new characters and relationships to rotate in my head, and I love it for that.
Talking With Strangers (malec, E, Shadowhunters) actually got finished in a satisfying way, and I love it for that.
Maybe those are my current answers.
-
I will no-pressure tag — @theotherjax, @electricshoebox, @faejilly, @sinni-ok-sessi, @ladymatt, and anyone that still wants to do this! I've seen this doing the rounds, so if you haven't yet, please feel free to blame me for enabling you!

For the ask game 🍓🍄🔪!
(If this went through earlier plz ignore this one lol)
🍓 ⇢ how did you get into writing fanfiction?
Oh, man. I couldn't even tell you when I started writing stories; it's been one of those things I've done all my life. I think my first fanfic was a really terrible self-insert YYH fic. I also got super into Harry Potter fanfic while the books were coming out. Thankfully, my writing has improved a lot since then 🤣
🍄 ⇢ share a head canon for one of your favourite ships or pairings
Law is a control freak in most aspects of his life--except one. Luffy understands the significance of Law's vulnerability when they are together and absolutely loves taking care of him to not only show how much he loves Law but also to prove that he's worthy of Law's trust.
🔪 ⇢ what's the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?
I'm sure there's weirder stuff that I can't think of at the moment, but I've definitely looked up a lot of things about injuries, concussions, and wound treatment.

Thanks for the ask!

Shuffle your on repeat playlist and list the first 10 songs that play, then tag 10 people
So for a little explanation:
My ’on repeat’ playlist exists since Wednesday. My January has been pretty rough and I didn’t feel particularly great during this time. But I've been feeling better for a few days now and I made this playlist to get some motivation and some (much needed) self-love.
So let’s get started:
I’m still standing – Elton John
This song helped me through some tough times. Always makes me feel so loved and powerful.
Choose your fighter – Ava Max
Feel-good song from the Barbie movie. So it‘s a win of course.
Honky Cat – Taron Egerton, Richard Madden (Rocketman movie version)
The scene is a masterpiece. The song even more.
Viva La Vida – Coldplay
No explanation needed.
I wanna be a boy – Addison Grace
The explanation would be too long so let‘s just say I relate *a lot* to this song. A lot more than I probably should
Line without a hook – Ricky Montgomery
This song reminds me very much of Thomas and Richard (Thomas‘ POV)
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road – Taron Egerton, Jamie Bell (Rocketman movie version)
If there is one song that makes me feel like it was the right decision to let go of something I thought would last forever then it’s this one. Also Jamie Bell singing his part of this song always gives me goosebumps.
Don’t stop me now - Queen
It’s been ages since I’ve last listened to Queen. I forgot how much of a banger this song is.
Counting stars – OneRepublic
Chase your dreams, you only live once :D
Hermit the frog - Marina
The Thomas Barrow vibes are strong in this song.
If you have made it this far.. congratulations!

Tag 9 people to get to know better (via @deiasilva10 💙)
Last song: The Mechanisms - “Loki”
Currently watching: last thing I had on was Good Omens 2, for a rewatch. I bounce around a lot. Before that it was some documentaries and the music video for The Proclaimers’ “Throw the R Away”.
Three ships:
Silrah (Farah Dowling / Saul Silva), Fate: the Winx Saga, on account of eating my brain the most currently.
Milathos (Athos / Milady de Winter), BBC’s Musketeers and more generally, because it is one of my once and future ships.
Corlys Velaryon / Rhaenys Targaryen, House of the Dragon, because they made me give an excessive amount of fucks in the show (blame to Eve but especially to Steve for being the captain of the fucking ship, as he should be).
Favorite color: darker cool jewel tones (I know it’s not one colour, shh) and wine red.
Currently consuming: steamed green beans and a tuna sammitch (lunch at proper lunch time? gasp!)
First ship: that I remember? Beverly Crusher / Jean-Luc Picard, ST:TNG. Even smol Charis went hard for the unresolved tension. 😂
Relationship status: single
Tagging (only if you wanna!): @somenamewithepineapple, @backjustforberena, @veritaserum07, @lustrouswhite, @jenni3penny, @lyliah7, @foullightdiplomatcreator-blog, @aserene, and @vera-dauriac. No obligation any which way!

extremely specific assumption based on your fanfic: you collected plastic dinosaurs as a kid.
I collected a wide variety of plastic animals, dinosaurs among them! I used them in intricate and bizzare fantasy sto.ries along the beanie babies and barbies that also populated the toybox

fanfic trope ratings! I'd be interested in your opinion on: whump? fairytale au? deageing? trapped together by Circumstances (ie weather)? thank you have a lovely day <3
EXCELLENT TROPE RATING MEME QUESTIONS I have been forced to self-reflect and have made some Important Discoveries:
whump - I had long held the sort of background belief that I was C or D-ish with regard to whump -- I survived X-Files, Buffy, and HP fandom without succumbing; I thought I was safe.
And then: Bucky Barnes.
I have now come to realize that for the last ten years, I have been B- and, in fact, sometimes even A-rating fics where a character must endure the worst horrors an author can inflict because there is still, despite everything, the small and aching flame of hope that grows from knowing that Despite All This, They Survive.
...the downside for everyone else is that now I try to get others to write more of it for me. (See: the accurate historical medical horror essay. When I, uh. Finish it.)
fairytale AU - An absolute A -- if it really goes all in. I'm not particularly a fan of the one-to-one rendering -- if I get a straightforward "Cinderella" with just the names replaced, for instance, I'm likely to lose all trust in the author and exit the story with extreme dissatisfaction.
But when a writer really gets it, gets what makes fairytales and why we tell them important-- gets that the act of transferring the tropes and lessons and magic from those stories to our stories is the entire point--
It's awe-inspiring, and so so beautifully human on an entirely metatextual level, and I love it. Examples that came to mind as I was typing include Terry Pratchett's Witches Abroad and @mia-ugly and @pinehutch's Frenchie-POV story "Transformative Work".
deaging - Probably a B. I don't seek it out, but I don't kick it out of bed for eating crackers. Humorous deaging I may briefly enjoy and then go on my way-- but I'm much more likely to get invested, or rate a particular story higher, if the author uses the deaging as a way to explore the childhood of darker characters, or as a way to delve deeper into the characters suddenly now responsible for a tiny human.
When they hit me right, they stick with me: @toli-a's Marvel fic "pull apart the dark" is a deaging fic with lines I still think of often.
trapped by Circumstances - ...YES.
A+.
GIVE THEM ALL TO ME.
IS THERE ONLY ONE BED WHERE THEY'RE TRAPPED? OR MAYBE SOME DARK MAGIC WON'T RELEASE THEM UNTIL THEY TALK ABOUT THEIR FEELINGS? I DON'T CARE.
(I CARE EXTRAVAGANTLY.)
I AM THE READER WHO GETS EXCITED BY TWO CAKES AND I AM NOT LEAVING THIS BAKERY UNTIL MY DEMANDS ARE MET.

Last song listened to: According to my Spotifty "Young Folks" by Peter Bjorn and John. It's on a playlist someone made of "Songs Starfleet cadets would call Classical".
Currently reading: I've just finished reading lots of papers about HIV for a uni assignment so I'm back to reading Sistersong by Lucy Holland which I am enjoying but keep getting distracted from.
Currently watching: live action Avatar. And enjoying it.
Currently obsessed with: Reading papers about HIV? Figuring out what's wrong with my feet? Finding the perfect khaki t-shirt to replace the one I just had to throw in the bin? You know...normal stuff.
I believe there's a tagging component here. So...uh...no pressure @niamhermind @v-as-in-victor @boogerwookiesugarcookie @baglieg @ironedorchid

Strange New Worlds blew everyone’s minds with a musical episode. If you could get a musical episode for another Star Trek series (TOS, Next Gen, etc), which would it be and how would you want it to go?
Difficult question! Disco is rammed with genuinely famous musical theatre actors but lacks the inherent sense of humour needed for a musical episode. But that would be my first choice. Sucks to suck I guess.
Honestly tng would have owned a stuck in a Klingon opera episode. Probably too niche for the world but I would have enjoyed them all stuck in a musical reality based on opera.
Tos could never have happened because we've all heard both shatner and nimoy sing and the world isn't ready for that to be canon.

Just posted a new chapter so what better time for a fic meme. Tagged by @magicalrocketships but idk if I have any better screen grabs than theirs.
1. How many works do you have on ao3?
38, which makes the average word count completely ridiculous.
2. What's your total ao3 word count?
1,048,397. Average word count 27,589. Brevity, I don't know her.
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Downton Abbey, Fate the Winx Saga, Good Omens currently.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
The Honeysuckle Arch
Learning to Speak the Language of Flowers
An Equal and Opposite Reaction
Instalments
The Could in People
Whenever I look at the stats, I'm taken aback at just how skewed my sense of which fics are the most popular is. Because I would not have guessed some of these at all.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to, but I am--at heart--a deeply anxious squirrel masquerading as a person and any sort of interaction with people I don't know well can sometimes be too much for me to handle. When my anxiety is bad, I imagine that every single comment will be about how shit my writing is and what an awful person I am, so I can't read them right away, let alone reply. I have to work up to them and do a couple at a time and I always intend to reply but sometimes, weeks/months/years pass without me feeling up to it and then it feels too awkward. Right now my anxiety is much better thanks to lots of medication and some pretty hefty life changes, so I'm more able to engage with them like a vaguely normal person, but sometimes if I have a bad week, opening the comment box to reply 'thanks! Glad you liked it' makes me feel like James Bond sitting nose to nose with an armed bomb. I do hold onto comments, though. I screen grab ones that really resonated and re-read them when I feel down. They mean a great deal to me, even if I can't always say so in a timely fashion.
6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
It's definitely a Merlin fic, possibly Doubt Creeps In? That whole thing is pretty angsty and there's no real resolution. I wrote a few angsty endings in Merlin fic.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Idk that I've ever written truly happy ending. I've written cute endings, give-them-a-break endings, but I don't know if I'd describe any of them as happy. I don't tend to go in for them. Nothing winds me up more than an epilogue with a pasted on happy ending. I have been known to hurl a book across the room.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I haven't for a while but I used to when I wrote HP fic. My favourite ever was 'you should be flayed for writing this. I hope you die.' I still laugh when I think about it.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yes. All kinds? I have written the odd fade to black in my time and also the most unremitting filth in all flavours of vanilla to kinky.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I've written a handful. Back on LJ I wrote a Merlin/Twilight crossover where Edward and Merlin team up to fight evil vampire unicorns who can only be killed by virgins singing at them until they explode.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yep. Tbh I just feel sad for the people who do it. It seems like a very hollow way to do fandom.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yep. And podficced! It's always nice.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I've done a few Big Bangs and other events where I collaborated with someone and it's always one of my favourite things to do. I've also co-written some... stuff on anon, which we're not going to talk about 👀
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
Can anyone pick just one? Like Hotel California, I check out but I never leave. I am still here for Mulder and Scully, Mal and Inara, Tara and Willow, Giles and Jenny, Bradley and Colin, Merlin and Gwaine, Nick and Harry and Niall, Isak and Even, Remus, Lily, Sirius and Tonks, Crowley and Aziraphale, Thomas and Richard, Ed and Stede, Farah and Saul. The ships I love never leave me and picking a favourite would make me sad.
15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
If I'm posting it, it will get finished. I have a couple of things languishing on my hard drive that may never see the light of day, like a Thomas in LA fic post DA2, but I can't not finish things.
16. What are your writing strengths?
A commitment to the bit? An unwavering belief there's never a bad time for banter? An unfailing devotion to poking people's bruises?
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
See above.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
Would attempt only in a comedy situation where getting it wrong was the point.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Firefly. The first one I posted in was HP though, rip.
20. Favorite fic you've written?
Saying I'm fond of all of them would be such a cop out, wouldn't it? In truth, my favourite is usually the one I'm currently writing, so let's say Sum of the In-between Things. It's morphed so far from what I intended it to be and I have literally no idea if I can stick the landing on it, but I've genuinely had a blast writing it, and that's the point, isn't it?
Tagging: @septemberrie @myalchod and @magnolia822!

oooh oooh, I want to hear about servant of the spiral!!
This fic! The SH/Final Fantasy X fusion absolutely no one asked for.
It's my current Shadowhunters brainworm and I really hope it will continue to gel for me. I don't know why I keep sticking malec into video game fusions but also, one cannot interrogate the writing brain. It loves what it loves, and what it loves right now is Magnus commanding huge ethereal monsters and Alec trying to keep his reckless ass alive as they go on the world's worst road trip.
I want it to be a story about them coming together (and yes, also coming together) in dangerous circumstances and really having to overcome their own biases and differences to become a team. It's also a story about religious trauma and falling in love with someone you know will die, and falling in love while knowing you will die, and... it will probably take me five years to write but also I love the whole idea so much I just might.
A Snippet:
As Magnus learned the litanies, so he learned the Code of the Guardian. It stands as one of the sacred texts of Yevon. And it begins, Protect the summoner, even at the cost of your life. For the summoner stands as the last defence of the world, and you stand as the last defence of the summoner. He supposes even the warrior monks cannot escape the scripture. It flows like the air they breathe through every level of the temple hierarchy. To have Alec hew to the Code for his sake, though—Magnus has no idea what to do with that. He was so ready to take the pilgrimage alone, with only the aeons for company. Bahamut whispers through his dreams like the sound of great wings. Magnus could, at any time, tug on the shining thread that is laced through his soul, and call upon him. Still, the aeon is the last persisting vestige of a long-dead soul. Bahamut may remember he was human once, but his mind soars in winds no human can chart. Having someone else—a living, breathing someone, with secrets and prejudices and a very nice jawline, someone who talks about his sister in wistful tones and argues with Magnus about justice in life-threatening situations—by his side is a different trial. His daring plan to steal the aeon did not account for that.
