EXPERIENCE / HOW MANY YEARS?: Um well, I started rping a soap opera on invisionfree in 2007, Tumblr in 2011 and indie rping in 2016. I have played Glee characters, The Vampire Diaries, tons of time in the Marauders Era of Harry Potter, Sons of Anarchy, Game of Thrones, Vikings, Versailles, Star Wars, American Horror Story, The Umbrella Academy, One Tree Hill, and I'm sure I'm missing some. I don't write many OC's. I had one in the Marauders Era, but really, that's it. I've also adminned probably 20 tumblr RPs, had 4 last over 2 years. I messed around with indie a tiny bit in 2013, but I hated the idea of switching to icons so I refused until there were no SOA rps and I made an Indie Jax Teller.

FLUFF, ANGST, OR SMUT?: Angst and Smut and angsty smut. Fluff, it has to be the right ship and I do better if I have an angsty thread too. I can do more fluff with a ship like Naley than most of my others.

PLOTS OR MEMES?: Both. I am honestly up for either one, depending on my mood. If your meme sits too long and you want to plot, just message me.

LONG OR SHORT REPLIES?: I can write anywhere from 2-40 paragraphs. I'll do one for the write person. But, I don't do sentence replies. I really have some people and characters, I can write novels on.

TIME TO WRITE?: Um lately, I've been trying to more. School kicks my ass. I'm in my Senior Year for my Bachelor's in Education and even though it's going to last 2 years, I have all the classes I put off. But, I have been trying to do at least five a day. Like right now, I have no replies to do. I have starters but no replies. If I get back on the right sleep pattern, I can crank out 30 replies at 7am. Other than the last two weeks, I can reply a lot on Discord.

ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSE(S)?: God, I hope not. But, the stubbornness and reactiveness of Anakin, Jax, James and Nathan is definitely similar. I'm a Taurus. I don't kill people though. I do threaten to throat punch people who talk shit on my favorite baseball player, though.

👋🏻 Hi, I'm Winter. I write dark, emotionally intense fiction about queer disaster-people who collide against a backdrop of moral bankruptcy and surf the downward spiral hand in bloodstained hand. It mostly ends well for them though, because I get pretty attached to them and apparently readers do too (which is why I appreciate all you twisted beautiful souls so much).

🌈 I write a lot of LGBT+ characters so it feels relevant to say that I’m an LGBT+ character too. I know that might not matter to my readers, but it matters to me and it impacts my creative perspective as well as my perspective on life in general.

preferred comms — Checking in and quick chats over tumblr im are fine. But if we're going to get into plotting I'd much much much prefer to talk over discord. Because then I can refer back to the posts. Going through tumblr ims should be classified as a form of torture. Pour one out for all the stuff I've lost in there over the years.

name of muse — Which one?? I've got several. Some are 'mains' others are 'testing'. The big three as I see it are Wylan Rechtur- shitlord assassin. Raguna Glen- Farm sim protag. And Eira Kestrova- Bossy mom friend tsundere.

experience in RP — Coming up on 17 or 18 years I think? From starting out on forums to avatar games to MMOs, and now I'm primarily writing here on tumblr though there's a bit of forum and tiny amounts of discord tossed in. But the latter feels off to me. I always prefer more public venues with opportunities for sharing and prompting random questions and meeting new people.

best experiences — Here on tumblr, I'd say. I've met some great people and have come through with probably the best characterization some of these muses have ever seen. Won't get into anything too specific, but suffice to say I've kept some people around for yeeeeears for a reason!!

pet peeves / dealbreakers — I've got so many I'm worried for myself. But aside from the obvious lack of response or enthusiasm, unanswered memes and starters, it would be this: People that come to you for writing (repeatedly) while contributing nothing to the plotting or selection process. Anytime someone looks at you and waits for you to paint a picture of an interaction through a roster of muses and genres and then set it up while going "I dunno" to any question asked?

Guhhhh!!! Give me a break!!! RP is a two person activity. Especially when I barely know your characters. Try and sell something to me!

Another thing that's gotten to me in recent years is an over-use of meta commentary and referential humor. I do this sparingly with Wylan, but too much and you feel like you're on an episode of family guy instead of writing a scene or interaction.

muse preference ( fluff, angst, smut ) — I am... an adventure and action and banter kind of guy. Which doesn't really fall under any of these categories. However, the preference would be fluff. Feel good stuff or anything that makes you smile. Angst, I'm not great at, and I've realized I don't care for it when it's sad or angsty for the sake of being sad. Give it purpose, give it a resolution of some kind. I don't much care for bad ends.

As for smut... I'm mixed. I like writing it but after giving it a shot again have accepted I don't much care for things after foreplay if it's in a thread. Headcanons that are lewd? Yes. Answering lewd/nsfw asks? Yes. But the back and forth is kind of eh.

plot or memes — I like adlibbing. And I like improv now and then. There's a pitfall depending on the writing partner with plotting- and it's that you just talk about the plot and the end instead of letting it develop and having things happen. There should be some room for surprises and twists that nobody was expecting. Laying out the whole timeline piece by piece can remove the enthusiasm to.... write it!

Memes are a great way to get started with everyone, especially the situation prompts since it's a little more flexible. I find myself less enthused with contextless sentence prompts lately. And I may start reblogging less of those and letting the more fun ones get a spotlight.

long or short replies — Mixed. I can't novella on command anymore, but depending on the interaction my fingers do get away from me on lengths and what have you. Overall I prefer something in the middle. 400ish words feels comfortable, and conveys enough information without conversations stacking on top of each other. The longer a post goes the more often that seems to happen. And you can get into temporal errors where situations change on past conversations that happened in the same post and.!??!?!? Yeah.

I also do enjoy the occasional banter of one liners and shitposting. But it'll never be the focus of this blog. And is almost guaranteed to get longer over time to the point that it becomes a multi-para thread.

best time to write — When I'm not busy at the office. Quiet space with less things to distract me. I can get into a good productive mindset really fast and knock out multiple drafts in an hour. Feels great. Otherwise I think it's early mornings where I do the best on days off. Evenings are times of distraction, so much distraction.

are you like your muse — I put a little bit of myself in all my muses, otherwise I probably wouldn't be able to relate and make a convincing portrayal or conflict. Wylan used to have a lot more of my traits in the past. But he is far and above his own problematic beast now and I'm glad I don't have as much in common anymore jfc.

Yeah, back when I was writing The Untamed Moments someone had taken it, posted it to Wattpad, and translated it to spanish. A reader told me about it and I got it taken down. No one steals a fic from me and gets away with it

Yup! My fic So This Is What Love Feels Like was translated to Vietnamese by Shu_Miw over on ao3.

A long time ago but I don't really like co-writing fics. I'll brainstorm/bounce ideas off of other people, but I won't co-write with anyone

Yuezhi. While I love all my ships, I can confidently say that these two own my fucking heart

I'll finish it eventually but right now it feels like 恨君不似江楼月 | Killer and Healer just because of the amount of work I'm putting into it. I knew it was a daunting task when I started it and I don't regret it but still...I'm much further behind than I would like

Dialogue and describing crime scenes. Dialogue because I've been told that I can get into my character's heads and everything I write sounds like stuff they would say. As for crime scenes, my forensic science background really helps with that

Writing fight scenes. Fuck me, writing fight scene fucking suck. I can see how the scene is suppose to go in my head but to translate it into words and put it on paper is a whole nother ball game

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I only use words in other sentences that I'm confident in using. Mainly curse words. I will maybe use a sentence or two here or there but I make sure they go through a proper translator first so that it makes sense

Either Dragonball or Black Butler over on Deviantart. I think. It's been so long

20. Favorite fic you've written?

I love all my fics. But so far I'd have to say 恨君不似江楼月 | Killer and Healer just because of the amount of work I've put into it. It's probably going to be my greatest achievement as a writer once I'm finished with it

H: How would you describe your style?

Ooh this is a tricky one. In terms of prose itself – lots of long sentences, flowy, dialogue-heavy. Narrative voice is generally introspective (I gravitate to thoughtful and self-aware narrators). In terms of actual content… fairly angsty, hopefully thought-provoking? Idk I reread my own work often enough that it tends to lose meaning for me and I really don’t know if it does what I hope it does.

J: Write or describe an alternative ending to [insert fic].

You didn’t give me a fic so I’m going to pick in the breaking – this is a pretty short ficlet that leaves a lot unsaid, but I really wanted to dissect the reasons why Maglor chose to accompany Maedhros on the final Silmaril theft, and to give him some agency in the decision, to make it more complex than the usual “Maedhros persuaded Maglor into it because of his formidable strength of will” interpretation. So the climactic moment of that fic is when Maedhros admits that he has wronged Maglor, and that if Maglor owes him penance for abandoning him in Angband than he owes Maglor too, and basically says If you ask me not to go then we won’t go. But Maglor can’t take him up on the offer. So an obvious alternate ending to that fic would have been one where Maglor does find the strength to refuse Maedhros, and they don’t go after the Silmarils. I’ve no idea how things might change from there – I like the tragedy of canon far too much to change it – but it’s an interesting thought experiment.

M: Got any premises on the back burner that you’d care to share?

Ohhhh SO many. Currently most excited about the Maedhros doesn’t swear the Oath AU and the Uldor kills Maedhros at the Nirnaeth AU!! And I’m rather fond of the Russingon post-Bragollach fic I’ve been working on too, even if it’s been giving me trouble.

Like what if when krux kidnapped Kai and nya’s parents They actually went to an orphanage and nya got adopted But Kai didn’t And the people got so sick of him they shipped him off to darklys So by the time Lloyd gets there kai is like all angsty and “bad”And he takes Lloyd under his wing And they are like bros But a few years later kai abandons ship and runs away from darklys And Lloyd is just like :( And when wu goes to look for Kai at his parents forge nya is just there visiting and is like I haven’t seen my bro in years And then she gets kidnapped and the pilots happen except Kai isn’t there And then Lloyd gets kicked out of darklys And try’s to be evil and releases the serpentine And the ninja do the ninja stuff but nya is a ninja w/them And they just keep running in to this guy in a cloak who keeps stoping them from capturing lloyd And also doing small crimes And when Lloyd gets kidnapped by the serpentine and Kai helps the ninja escape the slither pit like samurai x did in the original episode he manages to get away but nya stops him and he takes off his hood and is like hi little sis and nya is just like :0 And then he steals the sword of fire for shits and giggles and runs away And tries to save lloyd And then eventually joins up with the rest of the ninja and garmadon to save lloyd. and instead of the compation of who will be the first to find out the identity of samurai x it’s just who the mystery guy who keeps screwing with there plans and generaly causing chaos is And then when nya finds out it’s like

All the other ninja: arguing over who the guy is

Nya: sobbing on the inside

Just watching the first 15 minutes of the school for good and evil adaptation makes me remember how much I hate book to movie adaptations. This book has been butchered ho hell and back. Also as a warning to people who haven’t red the books or at least up until book three. DON’T SHIP AGITHA AND SOPHIE TOGETHER. They are revealed to be fraternal twins in the third book as they share a mother. While their relationship may give off heavy gay vibes they are sisters (unless they end up changing this major plot point I haven’t finished the movie yet). Please don’t make this mistake. Anyways back to watching what will no doubt turn out to be a brutal butchering of one of my favorite childhood books.

1. When are you usually online?  

I’m kinda online on discord most of the day, because I have it on my phone. I don’t always read messages or reply though. On tumblr I’m online on evenings, but not every day. I don’t have regular online times to be honest :)

2. What verses are you involved in outside of this page?

I have 3402384 verses in my head and not enough time to write any of them. I never counted, I don’t know :) Some are more developed, or plotted with other people, some are just extended headcanons or ideas I haven’t written down yet. I should probably do a verse page sometime, but I am not that organized~

3. What is your biggest RP pet peeve?

Character/ship policing and cancel culture. And on a less serious note, people whose thread RP replies are a summary of my initial post from their character’s perspective as exclusively internal monologue with no new actions for me to reply to in my next answer :)))) That makes me feel like I am writing a fanfiction on my own.

4. Are you drawn to specific types of muses?

Maybe? But I’ve always had quite a variety of muses in all my fandoms. I do tend to make everyone angsty and depressed headcanons though :D So maybe my type just is “secretly depressed”, and I like insane villain characters that I get cancelled for like Viserys, Ardyn, or Wen Ruohan. Oh also, male muses. I almost never write female muses.

5. Are there recurring themes in your writing that people might not notice?

Ehmm, not sure, actually. I tend to recycle tropes that I love every now and then, but those aren’t specific to me. I think with certain characters there are often themes of loneliness and accepting a bitter fate that I like to throw into my stories. But I also usually write happy endings. I always fall into the same h0rny tropes, too. Haha.

6. What are your favorite RP trends?

Meme sentences !! They’re perfect for people who are too busy for full-blown threads, they’re great ice breakers, they make good crack ship moments, they’re just awesome. Dashboard/tag games (like quizzes) are fun too! I actually also really like the icon trend. We used to RP with gigantic GIFs of various sizes haha, icons make everything look very neat.

7. What is your process for starting a new story with someone?  

Usually one of us has an idea, in my case that’s often specific scenes that I then develop a setting out of, and then we yell at each other in excitement, or we plot like mature adults (lol). Lately I have been too busy for rp threads tho, so it’s mostly just been.. memes set in specific verses.

8. How do you feel about duplicates?

I don’t mind them, I’ve always had a least a few friends who wrote the same muses as me. Sometimes it makes me insecure about my own portrayal to see others who are super amazing good at writing them, or are very active while I am super slow, but that is 100% my issue and nobody else’s. I would never want to discourage someone from writing the same (canon) muse as me, and I don’t avoid them either.

9. How long have you been involved in roleplaying?

For almost 17 years now.

10. Is there a muse or verse you wish you could write in, but haven’t?

All my muses and verses, man. I have so little energy to write lately I’m not making any progress 😥 I have a lot of ideas and things discussed and ships in the pipeline but actual writing is not happening lately.

okay so my initial thoughts were quinn/brady bc i love coming up with angsty and really hurtful aus for them and also i feel like i would generally reach for dylan/zach but i'm really just. feeling hallberle for this?

i feel like no one really explores the overlap in their time in the tristate, and that's kind of where this would start, right? reunited on the east coast after a yearish apart, and everything's different but they're still them, and it's weird and maybe a little off, but they try their best to make it work. and they do, for a bit, and it's good. not perfect, but it's good, and they're happy enough

-at least until taylor gets traded. to arizona, which is as far from his edmonton beginnings as he can get. he thinks, like the last time he got traded, that jordan will dip, curl in on himself and write off the entirety of what they've built like he had before (and it would hurt worse now because the first time around they were just dumb kids, but he and jordan had started making plans, started thinking of a life together)

-jordan doesn't dip, and taylor signs in buffalo. it's not great, but it's better than the other options, especially when the breakdown of how the divisions are gonna be structured that year. shy of ending up on the isles or the rangers, its kind of the best taylor could have done. he's happy

-jordan is-jordan is struggling. he feels the writing on the wall, and he should be happy, should be thrilled that him and taylor can make it work, but despite surviving the months apart, things feel heavier this season, harder. he's struggling, and he's starting to doubt if he can ever really have what he wants

-the expansion draft feels like the final nail in the coffin. it's his turn to be the one who's pulled away

-taylor talks a big game after his stretch with the bruins. his points are better, and his agent thinks there's a good chance seattle will sign him, especially if he does it on a team friendly deal

If there is any pattern, it's that I think I tend to start with short, simple, declarative sort of sentences. Sometimes I do dialogue, especially if we are sort of diving right into the middle of a scene or want to get the action rolling quickly. But yeah, all the sentences are rather short, and I wonder why my brain works that way, haha. Challenge for my next piece, can I write a different style of sentence?

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

51. I have all of my three-sentence fic in one catch-all “fic,” though - I don’t do as much of it as some of you! I tend to write longer stories.

2. What is your total AO3 word count?

557,450. (Wow!! That’s more than I thought.)

3. How many fandoms have you written for and what are they?

There are 34 fandoms in the list on my AO3 dashboard, but quite a number of them are duplicates (e. g., “Newsies! The Musical - Fierstein/Menken” and “Newsies - All Media Types” and “Newsies (1992)”). It’s really about 18, total. Some of them are Glee, Chronicles of Narnia, Newsies, The West Wing, Harry Potter, Sherlock, MCU, and Little Women.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Mending Our Mistakes (Little Women, Jo/Laurie)

Wounded With His Wounded Heart (Sherlock, Post-Reichenbach, Sherlock/John)

Silver and Gold Crowns (Chronicles of Narnia, PC movie ‘verse, a sequel to Lirenel’s Terror Gold)

Balancing the Scales (Chronicles of Narnia, focusing primarily on Peter and Ed post-VoDT)

These surprised me a little bit! I would have guessed Mending Our Mistakes, and Wounded just because Sherlock is such a big and voracious fic-reading fandom, but not the others.

5. Do you respond to comments, why or why not?

Always! I love getting feedback from readers, and I started off really participating in fandom on LJ, where the back-and-forth in comments was much more like conversation. I miss that.

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

I hate angsty endings, honestly, and I don’t write them much. There can be angst in abundance in a fic, but I want my happy endings! That said, the two angstiest things I’ve written are probably Requiem (The West Wing, a futurefic meant to commemorate the real-life 2011 Norway bombing) and Secrets and Ghosts (A Chronicles of Narnia/Imitation Game crossover).

7. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve ever written?

I do! Not often, but I like them when I do. I think the craziest one I have started (not finished, as I have way too many WIPs) is a Glee/Chronicles of Narnia crossover called The Substance of Things Hoped For. I also started a Narnia/White Collar crossover during TSF this year that I haven’t posted, because I keep hoping I will finish it.

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

It’s very, very rare. I can recall one instance where I received a nasty comment on a Klaine fic, and once when I received a mean comment on a Peggy Carter/Steve Rogers fic, but those are the only two that spring to mind.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes, but rarely. And I don’t have a kind, I don’t think? Except to say that if it doesn’t actually do something for the plot, and for the emotions of the people involved, then I generally don’t write it. Smut for smut’s sake is really difficult for me to write - it’s difficult to write anyway!

10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge!

11. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No, I haven’t, though I’ve taken requests or prompts from people!

12. What’s your all time favorite ship?

It is utterly impossible to answer this question. I have an OTP for pretty much every fandom. I will answer with Klaine first, because they were my first experience with a really big fandom and a wonderful community of people. But Josh/Donna from The West Wing, Harry/Hermione from Harry Potter, Jack/Sarah from Newsies, Jo/Laurie from Little Women, Steve Rogers/Peggy Carter - there are so many. 

13. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

This is difficult - I wrote two stories really close together, one for The West Wing (Distraught Conditions) and one for Beauty and the Beast 1987 (Love and Hope). I’m honestly not sure which one was first!

14. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

We’ll Be There To Defend One Another, which is also my longest fic and the first story I’ve ever cracked 100K on. It’s a love letter to Newsies (1992) with polyamory 19th-century style and lots of historical notes (probably too many. This is my time period and I love talking about it.) But, oh, I love this fic and this ‘verse - I have snippets and notes for a whole series of stories, at this point, if I can ever finish the first one!

B: any of your stories inspired by personal experience?

so. freaking many. you vs the guy he told u not to worry about? based on my friends bfs seeing me as a threat. name a time and place we'll be fine? based on that same friend moving away. this type of love don't always come and go? the story of how the same friend (it's always this one friend lol) met her current bf who does not see me as a threat. i write a lot of fics inspired by this friend of mine. i love her

K: what's the angstiest idea you've ever come up with?

(i've already got this one so i'm copy-pasting repeats, sorry lol)

i have a super angsty fic planned but since its gonna be lengthy i wont spoil anything. but uh another angsty idea i've had is one where bkg got a lot of negative press which pissed both him and deku off and then when he died in a mission everyone did a 180 and was like oh he was such a great hero and then deku like snapped. it was one of the very first bnha ideas i got actually, never wrote it though

W: do you like more general prompts, or more specific ones?

oh, it depends. i definitely prefer to start with a more general prompt, but often i'll ask for specifics if i'm like not getting inspiration or i feel like i need more information on what the person is asking for. like for caramel dynamite supernova i asked for like specific headcanons they wanted to see but im also writing bday fics for my friends with like a one sentence dialogue prompt. so yeah, depends
