Excerpt:

1.

The marketplace was loud and chaotic, desert-colorful and bursting with more people than Luke had ever seen at once in his life. Even the local school didn’t compare.

Everyone was so tall.

He let go of the embroidered strap of his aunt’s bag and drifted towards a stall overflowing with colorful fabrics that waved in the slight breeze and shone in the bright light of the suns.

The old, wrinkly woman behind the stall smiled at him with crooked teeth. “Got an eye for off-world luxuries, little one?”

Something in his chest told him he could trust her. Luke wandered a little closer, and dared to reach out and touch one of them, a soft, friendly blue. It was bluer than the sky.

Excerpt:

Luke glared at the Imp warden the stormtroopers had dragged him to. He hung between the troopers’ white-armored grip, leg burning from a blaster shot.

The warden deigned to look at Luke, face weeping disinterest. “New prisoner?”

“Yes, sir. Caught this one.” The trooper shook Luke. “Assisting the Rebels during the raid.”

“Citizen or visitor?” the warden asked.

“Uncertain, sir. We haven’t processed him yet.”

The warden sighed, and lifted his datapad to Luke’s face. Luke flinched away on instinct, not wanting his face put through an Imperial database search, but one of the troopers held his head still. After a moment, the datapad beeped.

The warden’s eyes widened. He sat up straight and fixed his cap, gaping at Luke. Luke’s stomach sank.

“Troopers, prepare transport.”

Kriff.

Stars only knew what Luke’s bounty was these days - he had certainly stopped bothering to check it. All he knew was that it was higher even than Leia’s.

And that he couldn’t afford to get stuck on an off-planet prisoner transport.

i know this is random but i dont know anyone else i can rationally discourse this with dbdjjsjs but anyway. Is it just me or this end to bucky's arc in tfatws feel kinda unsatisfying? I agree with the bits about relying in yourself for validation and not others (ie not steve) but. idk. Im not sure if the solution would be to go around telling ppl youre the reason their family members are dead lol. It feels kinda selfish to open someone's old, deep wounds that way for one's own satisfaction (the scene with the older man who lost his son kinda rubbed me the wrong way as if "i killed your son against my will lol bye") . Of course if im wrong feel free to correct me. What are your thoughts?

I kind of agree and kind of don't! I think what they were going for with Yuri is less "Bucky needs to get this off his chest" and more "Yuri deserves closure and to know how his son died." You can certainly argue whether that itself is helping Yuri, given that Bucky had already earned his trust by then--like, is closure worth the knowledge of that betrayal? Idk, I'm just saying I think that's what they were aiming for.

I think my big grievance with Bucky's arc is this it seemed to like...obscure the fact that Bucky was literally brainwashed and none of what the WS did was his fault. Like if Bucky wants to make amends because he thinks it'll give him peace then he should do that, but he's not, like, morally obligated to? The writers seemed to treat him as a former villain seeking redemption, which, while a trope I ADORE, does not actually apply to Bucky.

I guess in more realistic depictions of brainwashing there's more gray area. Free will isn't a binary. But with Bucky like he literally had NO free will. It's more akin to being, like, demonically possessed. And the way the writers talk about him confirms my suspicion that they don't actually see him as brainwashed, which is just such a fundamental misunderstanding of his character...

Idk I liked the show overall but that element had me going ????

Tldr I guess my issue is not so much the end of Bucky's arc as it is the basic premise upon which that arc is built.

YESS another skip beat fan!!! This manga is so underrated. I cant believe ive been reading this manga for 8 years and the main couple barely confessed their feelings. Thr slowburn is painfully real. I love all the characters and their development (yes even sho because i find him interesting) over time. Im so pumped to see where it goes now!

HELL YEAH SKIP BEAT NATION 

Tbh to me it says a lot about the quality of the plot that the main couple confessing isn’t the only thing I care about. It’s so painful but the payoff is always amazing. 

And I actually really like Sho, for as much of an asshole as he is, the story doesn’t take the easy way out and use him as a stock 2 dimensional villain. I honestly really love how he’s forming a genuine rivalry with Kyoko too.

A/N: My brain was like shouldn’t you do this from Anakin’s perspective but no only Padme’s. XD

Thank you so much for sending in the prompt Meltic and ily. <3 Sorry this took so long it’s just been a crazy couple of days.

When Padmé opened the door to her apartment, she had been surprised to see Anakin there. Last she’d followed the war effort, he was supposed to be out fighting in the battle on Felucia with General Secura, not based on Coruscant, yet he was here, lying on her couch, having fallen asleep waiting for her to come home.

She couldn’t complain, and she smiled softly at the sight. If it meant Anakin was home a few weeks early, and she could have her husband with her again, she would take any blessing she could get. 

She closed the door, trying to do so as quietly as possible to avoid disturbing him. She started towards the kitchen to get working on food when she heard a soft groan. “Padmé?”

Rather than continue to make food, she went over to the couch. “I tried not to wake you.”

“I wasn’t asleep,” Anakin insisted. She didn’t really believe him, given the way sleep still clouded his eyes and he hadn’t sat up, but she didn’t question it. “And even if I was, I wouldn’t want to sleep when you’re around.”

He was as sleep as he always was, and Padmé went to put her hand in his hair to start playing with it until he fell asleep, but instantly pulled it back as soon as she felt the heat coming from the top of his head. She instead flipped her hand around so the back of her hand was against his forehead. He was warm, abnormally so. “Ani…” She shook her head. “Ani you have a fever.”

Anakin shook his head. “I’m fine.”

“You aren’t fine, you were sick enough that they sent you home to recover.” He was unbelievable, knowing he was sick enough and yet going onto the streets of Coruscant running a fever and who knew what else just to see her. “You should be resting in the temple.”

“Didn’t wanna head back to the temple,” Anakin muttered. “Obi-Wan couldn’t come back from the war, and Ahsoka…” His voice trailed off, unwilling to talk about everything with Ahsoka still so soon after it happened. “Would’ve been just me alone.”

She knew it was irresponsible to let him stay in her apartment. The Jedi Temple was significantly better stocked with medication and likely had techniques she couldn’t begin to understand to help him heal, but the desperation in his voice to be with anybody who he knew cared hurt her more than she could say, and she let out a sigh. “It’d be more dangerous and irresponsible to send you back anyways as you are. It means you’ll be sicker longer.”

“More time I get to spend here. With you,” Anakin said. Despite how worried she was, Padmé smiled. While she would’ve preferred Anakin have some self preservation in regards to how he acted, she couldn’t deny that how much he wanted to spend the time with her didn’t make her smile anyways.

She stood up from the couch, noticing Anakin’s frown as he felt her move, she said. “I’ll be right back, I have some medicine that might help.”

Anakin nodded and closed his eyes. “Thank you, Angel.” In any other circumstance, he likely would’ve pulled her back down. It was a testament to how terrible Anakin was feeling that he let her get up without a fight when he wanted the attention.

Padmé entered the kitchen and went through the cabinets. She wasn’t gone long, but when she returned with the pills and cup of water, Anakin was already once more out cold. She put them down on the side table near the couch and placed a kiss on Anakin’s forehead, leaving him to get the rest he needed as she went about her routine for the rest of the night.
