HOLD BACK THE TIDE BY MELINDA SALISBURY!!! Wow, the look of this post is a STARK contrast to the mood of the book. Alva’s father is a murderer, and she still lives with him. How do you live with a murderer? Well, you make yourself useful, and you bide your time until you can escape. But right before Alva can run away, she becomes more and more worried about the lowering levels of the loch he family has guarded for generations. I was honestly on the edge of my seat for this book. This was also an ARC, but I didn’t get around to reading the book until months after it was released (haha). It was easily worth the read. . . . #holdbackthetide #melindasalisbury #bookstagram #books #book #bookblog #bookblogger #booklover #booknerd #bookstagrammer #readingcommunity #bookcommunity #readersofinstagram #read #bookhoarder #wearecurrentlyreading #bookish #bibliophile #booksbooksbooks #booksworthreading #readmorebooks #mustread https://www.instagram.com/p/CM3IeEFLlUS/?igshid=m1e0wp7qi4pu

QOTD: do you prefer to read trilogies or longer series of 5+ books? • I really enjoy exploring a whole story in 3 books, and here's one of my favourite series: The Sin Eater's Daughter by @melindasalisbury • To be honest I love longer series too but I'm less likely to start a completed series of 6 books than I am to read a completely published trilogy. With longer series I have to pick it up in the first couple of books and endure the agonising wait between books. • #books #bookstagram #booksonbooks #booksfordays #allthebooks #bookpile #bookstack #bookspines #yastack #youngadultbooks #youngadultbookseries #melindasalisbury #thesineatersdaughter #yabookstagram #booksforlife #booklover #lovebooks #bibliophile (at London, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAvwQukAqpZ/?igshid=qcc0ganmih3q

This book is absolutely amazing. It's well-written and -paced, and the things that would usually annoy me are resolved to my satisfaction. You should probably read the first book in the series, The Sin-Eater's Daughter, before reading The Sleeping Prince, but please note that The Sleeping Prince starts out a lot more seriously and throws you right into the middle of the action, whereas The Sin-Eater's Daughter starts out a bit silly but gets wonderful towards the end. #melindasalisbury #thesleepingprince https://www.instagram.com/p/B9uoT5ZJJie/?igshid=7wh4ycohfxxq

Hold Back The Tide
Tumblr media
Starting things off Melinda Salisbury’s  Book “Hold Back The Tide” Was a very engaging and suspenseful book. I definitely did not expect it to pick up the way it did from the beginning it was a little slow and then like a wave it came and buried under literary greatness.
I thought the way Melinda Handled the Character introductions and world building was a little slow paced but I Can see why it was done this way as it went along with the ominous, Mysterious atmosphere that the story had it definitely kept you in suspense and in a curious state about the characters.
With that there were patterns that kind of led you into knowing what was coming next, but it was still a pretty pleasant surprise when it would happen.
As for the plot you start with Alva living with her dad, which she thinks is a murderer, she lives with the stress and anxiety of what will happen next and fear for her own safety. We don't really get to learn much about the relationships with Alva and the other characters, but from the character info we receive you get a pretty good idea of how they all feel about each other and how they have grown as characters. Their Interactions from all living in this small town based in Scotland, I have always liked small town tropes. Over all everything was tied well leading into the ending of the book which as a total shock to myself I saw it coming but also not.

The Book went there and executed everything so well. Definitely Giving this book a 4.5/5.

About the Book:
From internationally bestselling, acclaimed author Melinda Salisbury comes a darkly seductive story of murder, betrayal, love, and family secrets in a small town in the Scottish Highlands.
Here are the rules of living with a murderer.
One: Do not draw attention to yourself.
Of course, when you live with a murderer, this is impossible. Even the subtlest of spectres is bound to be noticed. Which leads to the next rule.
Two: If you can't be invisible, be useful.
Everyone in this quiet lakeside community knows that Alva's father killed her mother, all those years ago. There wasn't enough proof to arrest him, though, and with no other family, Alva's been forced to live with her mother's murderer, doing her best to survive until she can earn enough money to run away.
One of her chores is to monitor water levels in the loch-a task her father takes very seriously. Their family has been the guardian of the loch for generations. It's a cold, lonely task, and a few times, Alva can swear she feels someone watching her.
But the more Alva investigates, the more she realizes that the truth can be more monstrous than lies, and that you can never escape your past …
About the Author:
Melinda Salisbury was born in the 1980s in a landlocked city, before escaping to live by the sea. As a child, she genuinely thought Roald Dahl's Matilda was her biography. When she's not trying to unlock the hidden avenues of her mind, she's reading, writing, or traveling. She lives in the UK and can be found on Twitter as @MESalisbury, though be warned she tweets often.

QOTD: Chapter heading illustrations? Yes or no? • I love these little touches to books which give them a personality of sorts. They also sometimes help me to set the feeling of a novel. These gorgeous illustrations can be found in @melindasalisbury 's Sorrow Duology, coincidentally 2 books I happen to love 😉 • Tell me where you've found some beautiful chapter headings 👇 • #stateofsorrow #songofsorrow #bookster #bookpic #literarylove #booktography #bookpages #chapterone #booksandtea #cuppa #mycupoftea #bookishflatlay #duology #yaduology #yabookseries #melindasalisbury #yareads #bookworm #lovebooks #paperbacks (at London, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_fVT3yAIYK/?igshid=t8wlpz698nba

I just finished reading #thescarecrowqueen by @melindasalisbury and I absolutely recommend the entire Sin-Eater's Daughter series! You need to read them in quick succession, because the suspense doesn't really stop, and it was ...not easy for me to remember who everyone was, due to the gaps between when I read The Sin-Eater's Daughter, The Sleeping Prince, and The Scarecrow Queen. This book was fantastic. The world-building continues to be great, the characters are realistic and diverse in terms of personality and abilities, and we have TWO strong women protagonists who, while they do stumble at times, are absolute badasses and don't let petty stuff get them down for long. They're also friends, which is rare in fantasy, and they don't get jealous of each other. I also love how good characters can be physically marred but the character known as beautiful and seductive is an unrepentant monster. I love how there's passion and love but it's tastefully and wholesomely portrayed. There are real human complexities and the wartime tactics are among the best I've read. This series deserves to become known, to become legendary ❤️ https://www.instagram.com/p/B_6RHYvJN9r/?igshid=ydzzt4gsomi5
