the way that kathleen’s storyline is one big foreshadow to the storyline of the last of us part 2, and what happens with joel and ellie.
so recap, in episode five of the show, we get the henry, sam, and new character kathleen storyline. in short, henry had kathleen’s brother killed for FEDRA in order to secure medicine to save sam’s life. and kathleen became obsessed with finding henry and killing him for it.
like joel and ellie in part 2, joel is killed, and ellie’s descent into revenge begins.
by the end of episode 5, kathleen is killed. her desire for revenge ultimately leading to her demise, similar to how, by the end of part 2, ellie is alone. without dina, without jj, without two fingers, unable to play guitar, her last connection to joel, who knows her relationship with tommy. she lost everything for the sake of getting back at abby.
in kathleen’s episode, she talks very highly of her brother, calling him her “hero” and a much better person than she ever was and is. basically, her tether to the real world, her anchor. again, similar to joel and ellie. when joel died, ellie lost that anchor, she lost that tether, and it ultimately leads to her destruction.
and then we have kathleen’s monologue:
“he would be horrified by the things i’ve done. and if you’ve come to tell me… that michael (joel) wouldn’t want me to hurt henry (abby)… that he would want me to forgive… i know that too.”
i put the parentheses in for if ellie was to say this, this is how it would fit, because it very much fits her too. joel would not have wanted ellie to throw her life away just to avenge him. he would want her to move on. and she knows it, but like i said, losing joel was ellie’s tether snapping.
it just works so well. too similar to not be foreshadowing.

Ok so imo Kathleen and the whole KC resistance is like a dog that chases a car and doesn’t know what to do with it when it catches it. They probably thought they would die in a blaze of glory getting revenge for their loved ones killed by FEDRA. Then they win.
Now they don’t know what to do (probably after killing every FEDRA soldier in the city) - so they focus on getting revenge on the very last traitors, regardless of their motivations, regardless that everyone was trying to survive. It’s what the resistance wants. They didn’t have any other plans after winning. They thought they would die.
But they move forward foolishly. They kill the doctor. They hunt down a young man and his deaf brother. They ignore the bigger threat of a bloater beneath the surface. They waste precious resources and time tearing through the city, for their leader’s particular revenge. The QZ is falling into disrepair. They start attacking innocents just for entering their city.
They aren’t thinking of the future. They’re lost in revenge. They become the bad guys.
(Excellent foreshadowing to the themes of the second game)
