oh my goodness, living with these boys would be a BLAST
there would never be a dull moment
first of all, these boys have HUGE appetites
there would be a plethora of food stuffed in the fridge and cabinets—enough food to feed a small village
the four of you try to have a sit-down dinner together at least once a week, which consists of a thanksgiving-level spread (i’m talking like five side dishes, two main dishes, and three desserts)
there’s never any leftovers; your boys are hungry
sam would love to play just dance with you
he’d get cocky when he scores higher than you, bragging about how he can woo the ladies with his sick moves
steve and bucky play sometimes too, but they take a lot more convincing
the boys collectively own as many toiletries as you do
they each use their own shampoo, conditioner, and soap (no three-in-ones)
the shower caddy is stuffed to the brim with products
thank goodness they recognize the importance of proper hygiene, living with three boys could’ve been nasty
not that you’ve ever brought it up, but you’re 90% sure steve uses some of your products sometimes (you smell lavender after he’s showered, which is your signature scent)
steve suggests the sappiest movies for your group movie nights. he’s unashamedly watched pride and prejudice with you multiple times. he claims he just wants to keep you company when you know he wants an excuse to watch the movie again.
the boys flirt with each other? like a lot? they’re always hyping each other up, smacking each other’s asses, leaning in for almost kisses and laughing it off
bucky is much better at flirting with sam and steve than any girl
sam is a masterchef. he is utterly obsessed with those cooking shows—he’s always trying a new recipe
steve is a wonderful artist—he proudly displays his work all around the shared apartment
he makes the most precious gifts for birthdays and special occasions. one of your most prized possessions is the painting he made for your birthday
a few months after you moved in, he insisted on painting a family portrait of the four of you. he had a blast making it look like those outrageous family pictures from an 80’s department store
bucky is always tinkering with something; nothing stays broken for long. who needs a handyman when you’ve got him?
you and sam are up to date on all of the internet trends (sam’s got his nephews to keep up with; he doesn’t want to be out of the loop)
bucky and steve usually have no clue what you’re referencing
you’ll sing trending tiktok sounds all around the apartment
most recently, sam walked in to the kitchen singing, “there’s only one thing you can expect from me and that’s the unexpected.”
you continue, “‘cause i’m an international super spy”
and the both of you yell, “SUPER SPYYYYYYYY” at the top of your lungs
bucky and steve share a concerned and confused glance
man, living with the boys would be a dream come true

you barely process his words, but you nod and tell him, “be safe”
bucky barnes, the adorable boyfriend that he is, decides now is the time to curate a self-care box just for you
he saw the idea online somewhere and has been waiting for the opportune time to surprise you
you’re his sunshine, so he’s going to give a bit of that back to you
he grabs a yellow bin and stocks up on all things yellow: snacks, candies, and lemonade
he grabs a wicker basket and picks out a soft pair of pajamas and matching socks
he stocks up on your favorite lotions, bath bombs, and shower gels
he wants the best for his girl and is adamant that you get not one but two customized boxes
when he gets back home, he presents you with the self-care basket
you’re stunned speechless, pressing your lips into his as a silent thank you
he insists on running you a bath
he scrubs your scalp with shampoo, lathers conditioner throughout your crown, detangles your locks, and braids your hair for you as he sits on the floor beside the tub
he lets you rant about anything and everything
he reminds you how much he loves you, repeating the kind phrases and reassurances you normally give him when he’s had a rough day
normally you’re the one taking care of him, but tonight, it’s all about you
after the bath cools, he rubs lotion in your skin and helps dress you in your new pajamas
bucky makes your favorite dinner once you’re seated on the couch with your favorite movie on
when the movie ends, he says he has another surprise for you
he presents the sunshine box, “you’re my sunshine, darlin’. here’s a bit back for ya.”
gosh this man loves you with all of his heart
the night ends with you laying on top of him, his hand gently rubbing your back until you drift off to sleep

this boy would be a nervous, blabbering mess around you
you're a waitress/barista/cashier and he keeps going back to your job just to see you
the food/drinks are okay, but you're worth it
steve is with him the first time he meets you
his mouth drops wide open; you're so stunning and beautiful, he can barely form a coherent thought
when it's finally his turn to speak, he can barely muster his order
you have to ask him to repeat himself, but you give him a patient smile
he's so cute and you can't help but grin at his nervousness
he gives you "bucky" for his order
steve teases him about this later too; he always tells people his name is james when out and about
he glances at your name tag, making sure to thank you by name
your name is forever etched in his memory
the following day, bucky not-so-subtly suggests they go back to the cafe at the exact same time as yesterday
steve agrees and teases him relentlessly while they're in line
"better not mess up your order again, buck"
"SHUT UP STEVE"
steve's teasing makes him even more nervous than he was before
somehow you look even more beautiful than yesterday, even though your hair is messy and you barely got any sleep
your heart swells a bit when you see that bucky's back
he's about to give his order when you ask, "same thing as yesterday, handsome?"
his brain short circuits at the compliment
steve just laughs as bucky stands there frozen for a good five seconds
bucky only speaks when steve nudges his shoulder, blush creeping across his cheeks
you fight the heat rushing to your cheeks as well
riding your surge of confidence, you write your number on his cup and insist on handing his finished drink directly to him
when you hand it to him, you say "there's something special for you on the sleeve, bucky" with a wink
bucky is yet again stunned speechless. he memorizes your number and cannot wait to call you
and of course they all live happily ever after. the end!

bucky blushes and bashfully mutters, “yeah man, she does.”

“of course she’s special sam! she’s the best thing to ever happen to me, I swear. god i freaking love her so much.”
bucky freezes. that’s the first time he’s voiced that sentiment out loud
sam on the other hand is stoked.
“MY BOY’S IN LOVE! Y’ALL HEAR THAT, BUCKY BARNES IS SMITTEN”
bucky immediately regrets his words. not because he’s ashamed of his feelings, but he will never hear the end of it from sam

they bicker back and forth for a while

“okay, mr. handsome stranger. where are we going?”
you’re on the back of mickey’s motorcycle, hugging his fit torso before either of you have introduced yourselves
he stops on the shore of a beautiful beach illuminated by the setting sun
“wanna go for a swim?”
“I normally know a bit more about a guy before I strip in front of him, no matter how gorgeous he may be.”
he smirks, “my name is mickey, i’ve lived in greece for seven years, and I dj for a living.”

for the sleep over 💖 i see a lot of enemies to lovers and friends to lovers stories, which so you think is more likely for bucky? why?
hi thank you so much for this question; it’s a good one! (sorry I took so long to get back to you, I spent a lot of time thinking about my answer)
𝐛𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐲 𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐬: 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬?
I think it would depend on which mcu era of bucky you’re referencing.
40’s bucky would be friends to lovers. I’ve read many fics where the reader is childhood best friends with steve, bucky, or both, and they fell in love that way. you might deny your feelings at first, but at the end of the day, you’d fall for your best friend. he would either be in love with you since childhood or one day look at you differently, realizing you’re the one for him.
the winter soldier would be enemies to lovers. you could be a hydra agent, a shield agent, an avenger, or maybe a rival assassin. I think the winter soldier is capable of love, but it’s buried deep down. I’ve seen brilliant soulmate fics with the winter soldier, which is fascinating.
civil war bucky is tough. he’s in a constant state of fight or flight, continually looking over his shoulder, and unable to trust anyone. I could see him meeting his match and growing to trust and love you over time. or, you could be someone he falls for right away who can pull him from the trenches of himself. he’d befriend you and you’d eventually fall in love with him.
wakanda bucky would be friends-to-lovers. he’s at peace in wakanda; there’s no one he would be enemies with. (i’m including infinity war bucky here since he’s there for like five minutes before getting dusted)
endgame bucky could be either. you could befriend him after steve leaves and help him move on and grow. or, he could hate you because you’re okay and happy while he isn’t. for an enemies-to-lovers in this scenario, bucky would project a lot of his feelings onto you, clouding his true emotions.
tfatws bucky could be either as well. I’ve read fics where bucky and the reader butt heads constantly, but grow to trust and love each other. this I could see if you meet bucky at the beginning of tfatws. I’ve enjoyed fics where bucky reluctantly befriends you (after encouragement from his therapist, yori, and/or sam) and ends up loving to spend time with and get to know you. however, if you look at the end of tfatws bucky, I see friends-to-lovers being more likely. he’s grown as a person and is much happier at this point. I don’t see him hating anyone anymore.
long story short, it depends on which of bucky’s eras you focus on. for my characterization of bucky, I see friends-to-lovers more likely. he’s too tired and trapped within himself to have the energy to hate anyone other than hydra and himself.

(sorry for sending so many omg) but some headcanons about how bucky would feel about bookstores/libraries? i saw a tiktok that said he'd love barnes and noble because of the name and it got me thinking
I LOVE THIS🥰

bucky LOVES bookstores/libraries because of how mellow they are
there's no unexpected noises, people leave him alone, and he can aimlessly wander for hours
he'd pick up WAY too many books each time he goes
even if he can't get through them all, he loves owning them
he has a huge floor to ceiling bookshelf at home that he's slowly filling up
he has so much to catch up on and wants to read it all
he'd relate to the elderly people struggling to use the computers at the library; he too is confused by technology sometimes
he tries to help them but often is just as lost as they are
he prefers physical books to an ereader, but he is blown away that a tiny device can hold thousands of books!!
he owns one though; he wants to appear modern
but even if he has the book on his ereader, he wants a physical copy too

both bucky and stevie would find it fascinating that the world is available at your fingertips
you don't have to go to the library to find new information, you can simply speak to your phone and it tells you? that's the coolest thing ever!
the seemingly endless library of streaming services like spotify, netflix, and kindles is absolutely amazes them; they can find a song they heard once in the 40's within a few seconds!
they love how easy it is to communicate with everyone; everyone is one call away (or text)
at first they found women's fashion a little scandalous but quickly dismissed that. they love how empowered women are in this day and age (as they should). we love our supportive boys!
oh my goodness they would be fascinated by those soda machines that have like 100+ options??!? I don't know if they had soda machines with the syrup and such in the forties, but the fact that a machine could produce so many different options would be the coolest thing! (I also find those things fascinating)
bucky would find the world a bit "too much." everything now is so loud, bright, and overwhelming.
bucky and stevie wouldn't be the biggest fans of hookup culture. deep down they crave a real connection with their partners.
of course they have needs, and sometimes they might indulge in relations, but they don't just leave their partner and never talk to them again.
the cost of living is astronomical and they are not having it. once they find out what minimum wage is, they go feral!! they definitely are firm believers that minimum wage should be a livable one.
@thefanbasewhore's heart eye emojis fic gave me another idea: the way the younger generations use emojis outside of their literal meaning would be hella confusing.
like you'd use 👀 and 💀in a text one time and they'd be so confused? of course one you explain the implications and meanings behind emojis (and memes) they'd get it and definitely overuse them
stevie would definitely use years-old memes unironically

3. brooklyn nine-nine: @jurassicbarnes 💖 when I think of this show, I think of the wonderful stories that manu wrote with bucky that follow the dynamics of brooklyn nine-nine! also, I love her writing just as much as I love jake peralta, which is a ton😍
4. supernatural: @bucksfucks 💖 no matter what other shows I watch, I always come back to supernatural for comfort. I do the same thing with eleanor's writing; I find my way back to her blog every other day or so to read her masterpieces😍
5. teen wolf: @winter-james 💖 kat recently reminded me that this precious show exists, so of course I think of her when I remember the show😍

I LOVE THIS IDEA

so I'll link a playlist too
but I'll preface the playlist with the following bullet points
imagine this playlist as bucky showing stevie a song, and then stevie saying, "but what about this one?"
then bucky says, "that one's good, but this one is better"
and the whole playlist is them fighting over which song is the best
bucky starts with falling and then plays cherry, fine line, meet me in the hallway, to be so lonely, from the dining table, and sign of the times
stevie retorts with sweet creature and then plays truly madly deeply, I should have kissed you, perfect, I wish, lights up, and canyon moon
however at the very end hey both agree on one: two ghosts (because they both feel that it fits them)
bucky likes soft, mellow music (@softlybarnes wrote once that bucky thinks modern music is too loud and I agree 100% with that idea, so I'm crediting her with the idea)
therefore, all of bucky's favorite modern songs (harry styles included) are soft.
bucky likes songs based on how they make him feel
most days he likes calm, serene songs to ease his troubled mind
there's days when he embraces the loud chaos (some of those songs can be found on my I know a crazy when I see one playlist)
stevie likes songs based on their lyrics; he appreciates the structure and instrumentation, but he likes to relate to the words
okie dokie that's my headcanon for their favorite harry styles song (and yes some of them are one direction but stevie doesn't care)

All I can think about is Bucky having a secret girlfriend he met in Romania when he was there and when he gets caught he asks Steve to make sure she’s safe
And so Steve brings her to him to make sure he knows she’s okay, and she tells him she loves him and she’ll always be there for him
