This song is Caryl for me. Why? The pirate link is obvious (S10) and it caught my attention, particularly as I was thinking about boats, and Carol at the time (had just finished DD S1).

Anyway, Caryl have aspects of themselves which are mysteries to each other. Though they know each other best, there are still things they don't know - things they know they don't know, and things they don't know that they don't know. Things they've struggled to share. Like, the fact that they're in love with each other. Lyric - "Mystic creature come to me".

I feel that this is a battle song, with the continuing theme surrounding the battle of inner thoughts and feelings. Noticeably, contradictions in the lyrics eg, "whisper scream, i'm listening", followed by "do not try to speak", and then again, "tell me what you believe, don't try to hide".

Hiding is a huge theme lyrically, and this represents the covering up of, or just not revealing of, the innermost feelings. All the unspoken things. The deep and buried. Lyric - "I've been trying to believe, what I said is what I need." This refers to the whole 'best friend' thing. We know Carol also hides in plain sight of her family, and Daryl (though this is more challenging at times for her depending on her disguise), during the series as a survival strategy. She can keep that up though.

The lyric overlay "don't try, don't try" (which actually sounds like "cold shower, cold shower" to me, c'mon mind!) is the exact opposite to their beautiful and meaningful urging of one another to try during various stages of struggle in their journeys. However in the context of the song, the full lyric is actually, again, "don't try to hide".

Finally, the line, "Are you ready to let me in?" could very easily, for my Caryl interpretation, refer to the very endgame, of all endgames, worts and all, "I don't mind the pain it's in."
