Have you ever felt like you “failed” at #meditation? I learned mantra meditation in my early teens and experienced blissful states, but when I returned to meditation in my twenties, I struggled. Closing my eyes brought nothing but dread and a dark pit of terror. For years, I felt unable to establish a discipline, but I kept trying and learning until I was led to some wonderful teachers who taught me that meditation is not something you “do” for a “prescribed” amount of time. It’s a state of grace we might enter if we surrender after we have taken other steps that take us to the gate. The gates are many, as explained in the Vjnana Bhairava Tantra, which lists 112. It might take an hour or a few seconds to experience the state because it is the natural state of your being, obscured by the outside world and negative states of mind and emotion. This is yoga, a path that culminates in the experience of samadhi, complete stillness and peace. I’m passionate about sharing the mysteries of meditation with others and the beautiful mantras I have learned along the way. My daily devotional practice sustains me and opens my heart to free-flowing vitality. “Meditation is the greatest form of medication,” says Ayurvedic luminary Dr. Vasant Lad.
