the way some people who claim they are feminist and pro womens rights try to make abortion a class issue...
there is no medical equivalent of abortion for men, they have complete rights over their body.
"but rich men can afford treatments poor men can't-"
RICH WOMEN CAN AFFORD TREATMENT POOR WOMEN CAN'T, AND ABORTION IS NOT ONE OF THEM.
a rich womans ability to travel to get an abortion doesn't make her immune to the harm, the fact that she needs to travel for medical treatment is telling enough.
i know you love screaming eat the rich, but for gods sake there's a time and place and this is not it.
abortion does disproportionately affect poor women, but this applies to literally anything and everything because rich people can afford privileges that others cant.
is racism a class issue? is homophobia a class issue? no, but they still disproportionately affect poor people.
think of it like this, whos more likely to get discriminated against on a random tuesday evening, a wealthy and well-known black man, or a homeless black man.
this doesn't mean that the wealthy one never faces discrimination, of course he does, because racism is not a class issue, its purely about race.
take this easy to understand example and apply to both homophobia and misogyny, but we're talking misogyny right now.
a rich woman having to travel to get an abortion is still misogyny, she is still oppressed for her sex, she still doesn't have a right over her body.
a poor woman having to force a miscarriage or try to abort at home because she can't get an abortion is misogyny, she is oppressed for her sex, she doesn't have a right over her body.
you will never, and i mean never be able to fight against abortion bans if you keep thinking of them as a class/wealth issue, all issues disproportionately affect the poor because our society values money more than anything, but that doesn't mean that rich people who are apart of oppressed groups are safe from discrimination.
an abortion ban is misogyny, no other sprinkles on top, no other definitions, it is misogyny because it affects females and only females, it is misogyny because it isnt allowing women a right over their own body.
a rich woman's ability to find a solution does not make her immune to the oppression caused by her sex.

roe versus wade is still the law of the land. but at any time the Supreme Court might release their final decision striking it down.
i mean this deeply and sincerely: fuck you to every single motherfucking centrist idiot who told me i was overreacting every miserable step of this facist slide into fucking nazi hell. fucking listen next time
I'm not openly super political on social media, but in light of certain things that have unfolded in my country this week, I'll share an anecdote...
I know exactly one person who's had an abortion, and if she hadn't been able to, the pregnancy would have been a death sentence, both for her and for the incomplete life form taking shape inside her. Due to a genetic flaw, her reproductive system developed malformed--she has PCOS and a badly tilted uterus. As a result of the latter, any attempt to carry a pregnancy was guaranteed to result in failure. Medical estimates were that anything that made it into the second trimester would turn extremely high risk, and more than likely deadly.
Lucky for her, like myself, she was never interested in having children, so not being able to have them was no personal loss to her. However, in spite of her personal wishes and her medical issues, all requests to have her tubes tied fell on deaf ears with doctor after doctor after doctor--most of whom were women themselves! One particularly atrocious line she got was, "Well, you may change your mind AND you never know what medical advances might come along to fix you up."
When the time came that she turned up pregnant, it was the result of a contraceptive failure--she and her husband were always careful about using it, but there's always that sliver of a risk. She'd done everything reasonable in her power not to get pregnant--but it happened, in part because of shitty luck, and more so because of active sabotage by those who wouldn't even consider a fucked up reproductive system reason enough to tie her tubes. (And no, asking a happily married couple who doesn't want kids not to be physically intimate is nowhere near the ballpark of reasonable.)
Her choice, in the end, was to abort or die, and she was cornered into that choice by a medical subculture that can't conceive (pun intended) of womanhood without motherhood.
And in states that now have a zero or near-zero tolerance policy towards abortion, the very choice to save one's own life has been taken away.
>>This is evil. This is the collective and systemic torture, abuse, and manipulation of women and all AFAB folks--mental, physical, and sexual.<<
Very soon after this woman's debacle, my husband decided to get his vasectomy to spare us any such risk. He faced absolutely zero push-back from his doctors. No one grilled him about changing his mind about kids later. His wishes were simply respected.
My stomach turned yesterday when I read commentary on the news by women saying they're going to look into having their tubes tied in response to Roe being overturned. Because they aren't yet aware of exactly how tied their hands may already be instead, or how hard they'll have to look to find a doctor who will respect their wishes.
All I can say is that I sincerely hope that this backslide in my country is a very temporary one.
If you live in the US, please vote. The vast majority of this country doesn't want this, but the vast majority doesn't vote. Even if you don't think it'll matter or make a difference. Just do it as a favor and a signal of respect. Let your empathy for the women in your life mean more than your cynicism and doubt. Please.
i've started looking at weight and health the way i look at class and income and it really puts a lot of things into a new perspective.
let me explain: in america at least, the lower class have significantly worse health outcomes, even when accounting for other factors. just being poor is enough to make your overall health worse. we don't know that being fat makes your health directly worse, like the data just isn't there, but for a moment, pretend it does.
imagine going to the doctor with a health problem and the doctor looking at your chart and saying well, this problem will be less severe if you go up an income bracket. have you thought about becoming rich? it would really help. start by saving a little money every month.
ridiculous, right?? very few people successfully go from working class to rich, it just doesn't happen on a large scale in society. maybe for a time you pick up some overtime hours, spend a little beyond your means, and appear rich. but eventually you burn out, your car needs to be repaired, and you return to being working class.
we do have this data: only some people can successfully lose large amounts of weight, and only a tiny fraction of people who lose that weight actually keep it off for more than a year. telling people to lose weight for their health is just absurd because they almost certainly can't do it any more than they can double their income for their health.
and yet i see it everywhere. a little poster in my work breakroom tells me to improve my blood pressure by losing weight! a psa on the radio says you need to take care of your heart by losing weight! we can't even conclusively prove that weight is the cause rather than just correlated with a lot of these problems but here it is offered anyway: have you tried being rich?
This is what Farouq looks like after severe medical neglect. This is when he reunited with his family. He is severely ill:
Palestine Captives on X, shared some of his story.
⚠️tw: torture, medical abuse and neglect, solitary confinement⚠️
As someone pointed this out already -Western media will STILL paint the IOF as a 'democracy.' This is beyond evil and inhumane. I hope for Farouk's recovery, and for ALL Palestinian prisoners to be released.
UPDATE! For those reading this on or after January 6th, -Farouk received his first round of chemotherapy. I hope the best for Farouk ❤️
