I’ve been feeling disconnected from a lot of new queer streaming content and I’m trying to understand why, especially because so much of it would have been impactful to me as a teen growing up. I think 1) it’s hard to get connected because a lot of these shows get cancelled without good reason and 2) a lot of these shows are the tv version of young adult/new adult. Which is just… not my genre. Nothing wrong with it! So glad it’s growing and getting gayer! I think execs think this is the demographic that wants to see queer content. And while they totally are, I’m a demographic that wants to see it, too. Where’s my gay Law and Order SVU? Where’s my gay Mad Men? Where’s my gay Succession? Like where an actual queer adult is the main character. Those shows are slowly growing, too, it just feels glacial compared to teen content.
I guess it boils down to I’m a gay old person who wants to watch TV about gay old people doing their jobs 😂

Living for those rare pieces of media in which the impact of committing violence isn’t diminished even when it is enacted out of self-defense or against an abuser, while ALSO honoring the rage and need to be harmful coming from the survivor, while ALSO somehow not devolving into an overt tell-don’t-show moral-dispensing medium.

There's a post making the circles about fanfiction that really reaaaaally rubs me the wrong way. It's essentially arguing that fanfiction is a small subculture of the internet and shipping is a small niche subset of that, and it's on you if you walk into fandom spaces and complain about shipping which lol.
Like the first point, sure, but to call shipping a niche in fandom spaces is ridiculous. Gen is the niche in fandom. It is difficult to downright impossible to exist in fandom places without engaging (even unwillingly) with shipping, and it's questionable at best to claim the only reason that people might have problems with this is homophobia.
Like, don't frame this as if it's so easy to engage in fandom and avoid shipping, and then imply there's no reason people would want to engage in fandom besides shipping. Just tell me you don't care about aro people and go.

One of the reasons Darlings works is because the two central women make opposite decisions and neither are condemned. In fact Badru is able to walk away from her husband because she has her mother to go to. Her mother, her who has consistently been a source of love and support, her mother who she has consistently shown she wants to be similar to, her mother who is only able to be there for Badru because she killed her own abusive husband so long ago. Badru says she doesn’t want to sink to her husband’s level and kill him and her mom agrees with her, understands the impact taking someone’s life can have on you. But even in that moment, both their decisions are understood and respected. In fact their decisions are only possible because of each other. And looking at Shamshu who is free from her own husband, who looks and sees her daughter free too, who has her cooking business, and maybe even a new love, it’s clear that there’s not a single piece of her that regrets the decision she made.

I've been wondering...what happens when Harwin takes Daenora inside for those paper towels to clean all that lemonade off her? "My hero," Nora purrs, as Harwin takes a few and wipes the sticky lemonade rom her chest, and her soaked bitty bikini top. Her nipples were evidently hard through the top, and Harwin chuckled, saying, "It's still pretty sticky, doll- might have to throw this thing in the wash altogether."
"Won't you help Uncle Harwin?" She asked innocently, as though she had no idea where the laundry room in her own family's ancestral vacation house was. His massive hands easily tug off her bikini top, letting her large, pillowy tits bounce free. "Of course I will, doll." He rasped, quickly guiding her to the laundry room, his eyes never leaving those tits, bouncing as she walked.
Harwin is naughty and i am here for it !!
Nora has no shame and just wanders into the room, a smirk tugging on her lips as a shiver runs down her spine. Subtly, she rubs her thighs together as well

Honestly the problem w darkfics is that these new writers/young writers wholly believe that writing something shocking or 'edgy' is the same as writing something good, so they rely on ableist talking points to try and convince an audience of fellow new/young readers that what theyre reading is super good. Even tho thats literally not how writing works?
And im sorry to say it but if people cant keep an audience without leaning back on demonizing psychotic people then maybe they shouldnt be writing. This isnt 2012. You cant win internet fame by writing 'psycho killer' aus of your fandoms. If youre a teenager and you write this stuff u need to seriously think about if people would read your work if you removed the ableism, and if the answer is no then it Isnt Good.
