here is my explanation of terminology

masc and fem are already well enough known, you know what those mean surely

for these purposes. i'd say that "softboy" is one general strategy of androgyny that walks the line between masculinity and femininity by having a general softening of masculine features in a way that brings them closer to what is considered feminine. i consider this to have more cutesy vibes

"genderfuck" is the polar opposite of this: a strategy that achieves androgyny by layering clashing masculine and feminine elements on top of each other, especially in a punky or "fuck you fuck your gender norms fuck your ideas of how i should present myself" type of way. i consider this to have more rebellious vibes
