I think if ao3 ever installed some sort of algorithm in any way (im not even sure if my idea would be considered an algorithm) it would be to be able to follow specific tags. You could follow a tag and then have a page where you can see all (if any) new stories posted that day with that tag. This would probably be more for specific pairings rather than additional tags.

my gender is someone gave me a bowl of raisin bran and my brother a bowl of cheerios, and I like raisin bran just fine, but if they'd asked what I wanted I might have picked cheerios?
