Making your way home in the dark had never been something you wanted to do, especially not with a phone drained of its battery and an evening chill littering your skin with goosebumps. The breeze and the sporadic rumblings from behind the greying clouds let you know the best was yet to come. Freezing droplets dampening your face as soon as they fell.
You’d never have even considered trying to flag down a driver but you’d not been stranded in a building storm before. And the knowledge of the safety of the area didn’t quell the fear in your mind when your outstretched arm lifted a thumb over the edge of the pavement. You pulled your jacket around yourself as much as you could as your shoes gathered water, scuffing against the concrete of loose slabs, idly kicking pebbled debris into the road with headlights reflecting in the coating of rain.
Some had the cheek to begin to slow down, maybe offering a pitied shrug before their tires spat water from the tarmac and they sped away. The bobbing of your legs didn’t do much to warm you up, bouncing on the balls of your feet for any semblance of movement as you watched each exhale form before you in puffs of white.
It was a Corvette that finally came to a stop beside you, sleek and black metal shining with raindrops and a window rolling down to show the smiling face of a helpful stranger.
“Hi, honey. Need a ride?” Her voice was husky and smooth with fiery hair framing her face and emerald eyes glowing beneath the lamplight.
“Please. If it’s not too much to ask.”
“Of course not,” she grinned, charming and kind. “Here, get in, you’ll catch a chill.”
She reached across to push the door open for you and the warmth was much needed to combat your freezing state. The scents of leather seats and spiced perfume swam around you and her smile looked even prettier up close.
“Thank you so much - my phone battery died and there’s still a long walk back to my apartment so you’re really doing me a favour.”
“Anything to help a damsel in distress,” she smirked and your cheeks heated embarrassingly. “I’m Natasha.”
“Y/N.” Her hand was strong when she shook yours with the small creak of her leather jacket as she reached over to you.
“Are you in a rush to get back to a boyfriend or anything?”
“Oh, no.” You shook your head as she pulled away from the curb. “Just an empty house.” And that was your first mistake.
“Then how does hot chocolate sound? I know a diner not too far from here and it’ll do good to warm you up.”
“Yeah, sure. That’d be nice actually.”
Perhaps, in retrospect, leaving the diner’s table to go to the bathroom wasn’t a wise idea. But, the kind eyes and conversation of the friendly woman across from you made you comfortable. There was no creeping thought in your mind that you’d return to finish your drink as she watched intensely, that once you were in her car again the music on the radio would fade in and out of your mind, growing cloudy and as blurred as the headlights of the other cars driving towards you.
Accepting a ride from a beautiful woman wasn’t something you’d apprehended with a sense of nervousness, it had come naturally to you to regard her kindness gratefully without fear you’d lose all semblance of judgment and clarity when she missed the turning that made its way to your street. Any utterings of her mistake were hardly audible, just slurred mumbles falling from numb lips as your heavy head leaned against the window.
A friendly offer can only be so friendly you suppose, things in this world seldom come without a price to pay - a darkened shadow overhead. Gracefully taking her offer caused your eyes to blink open a while later, confused and unaware of the time to follow.
Her bedroom’s ceiling light was harsh against your bleary sight and tears soon fell at the sinking in of the reality of the situation you’d been harshly dragged into. It didn’t take a completely focused head to notice the tightness of rope bound around your wrists, nor the coolness of the air against your skin - the breeze from the slightly cracked window that would not be felt if you hadn’t awoken in your underwear.
The wooden frame of her bed was uncomfortable against your back and the redhead merely smiled at the way you attempted to fight for freedom.
It took a moment to comprehend it all, to take in the sight of the foreign room you’d been brought to, the feeling of material clenched between your teeth and the eyes that regarded your half-naked body. The pleading look you directed towards Natasha through your eyes that spilled tears along your cheeks made her huff a humourless laugh.
“Don’t cry, honey,” she cooed, reaching a hand to cup your cheek with a softness you didn’t expect. She wiped the droplet from your skin as though she truly cared and in the haze that was your befogged mind you couldn’t help but slightly succumb to her whims.
Mumbles of your pleading for reprieve - questions of why - were muffled and obscured with the makeshift gag she’d forced past your slack jaw during unconsciousness. Why was she doing this? What was she planning next? All posed without answer. You couldn’t help but take in the sight before you, despite the vulnerably exposed pose she had you in, the contours of her biceps with each move she made and the vest top that pulled tightly over her chest.
“Like what you see?” she mocked, watching where your eyes drank her in. Perhaps you won’t be so hard to break after all.
Your body shook with fear and Natasha adored the sight. She loved how helpless you looked, glistening eyes begging, shrinking into yourself with small flinches at her every move.
“I’m not gonna hurt you,” she breathed. You let her pull the fabric past your lips, swiping your tongue over the chapping skin. Somehow, you believed her. “You’ve just gotta behave, okay? No screaming. Just sit and look pretty - can you do that for me?”
“Y-yes,” you nodded, failing with the attempt you made to wipe your face from tears. “Yeah, I can do that.”
You didn’t want to get on her bad side. You didn’t want to imagine the kinds of things that she might do; it wasn’t too difficult to appease her considering the kindness she’d already shown you. You wondered what someone might think if they caught a glimpse at the inner workings of your mind - the fact that you weren’t as terrified as you probably should be. That the attractiveness of the redhead deterred such emotion.
“Good girl,” she smiled, bringing a freshly cracked open bottle of water to your lips to help you drink. It was a cool relief against the dry and scratchy throat that had developed.
“Why are you doing this to me?”
“No. No questions,” she returned quickly, looking at you with a harshness she’d been keeping at bay.
“You can’t just do this,” you muttered. “You drugged me - brought me here against my will, you-“
Anything else you were about to say was soon halted with her lips on yours. She was strong and her kiss didn’t differ. The weak push you gave her did nothing to get her away from you and the rough hold she had on either side of your face didn’t let up, whatever she wants she takes and you were no different.
It was pure luck that the woman had come across such a pretty thing just begging to be captured. A crime of opportunity. The sweetness in your eyes and the comfortable conversation only let her know she’d made the right choice. She watched you unknowingly swallow down the hot chocolate she’d laced and observed musingly at the drowsiness that set in, taking in the uselessness of your slumped limbs in her passenger seat.
And now she revelled in your unmoving lips against hers, the way you stiffened up before finally giving in. Your lips moved with hers reluctantly, tentatively at first until you couldn’t help but be lured into her, to let her push her tongue against yours dominantly and take the sweet, forbidden fruit she craved.
With the way she took control of your mind you stopped shrinking away, even trying to pull her closer with a fumbling hold on her shirt. She smiled against you and let you pull her into you, taking her place with her knees either side of you with her teeth biting into your bottom lip when she pulled away for breath.
“See? I’m not so bad, am I, sweet girl?” She murmured against your throat, licking her tongue across the thin skin, scraping her teeth and digging them in to leave her mark behind.
You shook your head in response, letting her use you while you sighed out in pleasure despite every sensible part of you willing yourself to realise this was wrong. But if it was so terrible, why did it feel so good? Why did the touch of a stranger ignite a fire within you that only lovers had? How could you let her inch her hands downwards if this was so wrong?
Her fingers stroked down your waist as though she was familiar with the terrain, nails digging into the skin until they reached your underwear.
“I’m gonna break you down,” she rasped against your collarbone. “Bit by bit.”
She pushed the damp material that covered your cunt aside to swipe her fingertips through the slickness of your slit. “Until all you know is me - all you can remember is me.”
She toyed with your clit that ached with a filthy desire to be paid attention to, focusing solely on the bud while you moaned out at the feeling. She took you by force and consumed you entirely and it made your head swim - your stomach clench in a begging need for release.
Each action of her digits pulled you into a dangerous ocean of pleasure, bringing you headfirst into a new reality you don’t want to escape anymore.
“All you need to know is how good it feels when daddy fucks you,” Natasha breathed against the shell of your ear, completely enamoured with the sounds she pulled from you and the rutting of your hips. “You’re my little toy now, sweetheart. All for daddy.”
The roughness of her voice and the heat of her breath on your neck was too much to handle; the pace she’d kept up on your swollen clit brought you over the edge into an orgasm that had you seeing stars and you rewarded her with pathetic murmurings of her name.
Before you’d even had a chance to catch your breath it was stolen again with her lips on yours. She was eager and ravenous and you were going to let her take all she wanted, giving yourself up to the older woman who wanted to devour you whole.
When you pulled apart once more you locked eyes with hers, the darkness that had taken over them was unmistakable and it let you know that she wasn’t quite done with you for tonight.

“So if we work a grid over here from the North side, we’d have more coverage,” you said, leaning over a map on the conference room table. Everyone in the room jumped when Beau threw the door open, the slam of it bouncing off the wall echoing through the room. You stared wide eyed as he stepped inside using his crutch, crossing the room far too fast for a man as injured as he was. “Sheriff-”
“Everyone out,” he growled. You barely moved when he shot daggers at you, his eye actually twitching. “Not you.”
You got a few sympathetic looks as people left the room. The second the door shut, Beau was in your face, barely an inch away. You swallowed when he growled, letting out a low deep breath.
“Beau-”
“I tell you these people want to do unspeakable things to you, things I will have nightmares about forever, a-and you want to offer yourself up as bait?” Hot breath fanned over your face, Beau’s pants ragged as he let the rage pour out of him. “Are you that monumentally stupid? I mean really? Are that much of a fucking idiot-”
“Shut your damn mouth, Arlen.” His eyes flashed with surprise for a split second before the fire behind them re-ignited. “No. No you don’t get to call me stupid for having the balls to say this is our best bet. If it were anyone else, you wouldn’t be like this. But it’s me and you’re scared so you’re coming in here acting like I’m a damsel. Well guess what? I know what the fuck I’m doing.”
He grabbed the collar of your hoodie, fisting it hard. You didn’t let him scare you into breaking eye contract, even if it seemed like he was ready to snap. “Arlen. It’s the best plan to catch these guys.”
“You’re only doing this because I told you I won’t be okay until they’re caught.” He stepped back, dropping his hand. “Drop this plan or I will put cuffs on you and tell them to keep you in lock up. I’m not joking.”
“It’s the best plan,” you said softly.
“It’s the plan that gets you taken,” he said. Beau lowered his head, breathing deeply. “It’s too fucking dangerous and the team knows it. Why do you think they called me?”
You glanced out the conference room window, eyes landing on Pop. The second yours met, he glanced away and put his back to you, pretending to take a file somewhere else. Beau sat back against the table, green eyes turning gentler.
“It was Pop, wasn’t it.”
“He’s your partner. He cares about you.” You crossed your arms, standing before him, Beau’s cheek a painful purple color.
“You told him what those guys said they’d do to me.” He nodded, an air of reluctant about him. “We can’t stop a good plan because you’re scared.”
“We can’t do a stupid plan because you want me to stop being scared.” You pursed your lips, Beau taking hold of one of your hands. “You know how bad this could go, especially when we’re backed into a corner. They get you and we will never see you again and I’m not letting this be our last conversation. We have so many conversations ahead of us, Y/L/N. We deserve to have them.”
With a sigh you sat down in a chair, Beau sliding into one himself. He never dropped your hand, rubbing his thumb gently over top.
“Maybe it’s a dumb idea,” you mumbled. He smiled for the briefest of moments, quickly lowering his head.
“If we had more info, it could work. But it’s way too risky right now.” You hummed, Beau scooting his chair closer, your knees touching. “I am sorry for bursting in like I did and undermining your authority. You’re the senior officer in charge and I’m sorry.”
“You’re scared,” you said with a shrug, glancing at Pop through the window one more time. “You must have told him some pretty bad shit was going to happen to me.”
“I did. Unfortunately none of it is a lie.” You spun in the chair to face the white board, Beau moving beside you, the two of you sitting in silence for a few minutes. “Y/N.”
“You getting the feeling that none of this makes sense too?” you asked.
“Uh huh.” You were both staring at the two suspects pictures on the board, the ones you’d arrested yesterday. “If they’d actually wanted revenge, I’d be dead. If they wanted me to call and say I faked evidence in my old cartel case, they’d have tortured me for it. Or better yet, taken you.”
“Why kidnap you for a week and not get anything out of it?” you asked, leaning forward in your seat. Beau took a sharp inhale, your head turning when you sensed his eyes on you. You raised your eyebrows at him, his lips parting. “What?”
“They’d have taken you to hurt me. So why wouldn’t they take me to hurt you?” You started to shake your head, Beau holding up a finger. “Think about it for a second. If someone wanted to hurt you, what would they do? I’m the person you’re closest to.”
“But why? You said there were cartel guys saying it was tied back to Texas.”
“Or whoever is behind this hired those guys specifically because it’d make them look at my old cartel case. It would put eyes on me. My past. My safety. It gets us looking in the wrong spot and gets our officers all focused on me. It hurts me which upsets you and we’re leaving you vulnerable without knowing it.” You got up, standing in front of the board, trying to piece it all together.
And unfortunately the idea that someone was targeting you made everything make a hell of a lot more sense.
“I haven’t been alone since you were taken,” you said, looking over your shoulder. “I was sleeping at the office. Pop and I would always go with each other when one of us had to stop home.”
“Really?” he asked. You hummed.
“I said no officer was to go anywhere by themselves. We didn’t know if our people were being targeted.”
“You probably saved yourself doing that. And these guys were annoyed because it meant keeping me around and in the dark longer than they wanted.” The board before you told you nothing new but there was a sinking feeling in your gut that Beau was right. If you wanted to fuck with someone, you went after who they cared about. If the cartel had been behind this, they wouldn’t grab him. They’d go after Emily. Carla. You.
“So who the hell did I piss off,” you said, crossing your arms.
“Someone from Texas. Someone that knew enough to hire the two cartel guys we missed back then. What’s the last big case you worked there?” he asked. You sighed, closing your eyes. “Come on. It’s most likely one of your last cases you had in Texas.”
“You know how my last job was undercover?”
He nodded, urging you sit. “You never told me details. Just said it was a rough one and you were never doing undercover work again.”
“Wait here for a minute.” You were faster than him and were quickly in your office, typing into your computer, watching the search bar load. You had a nagging feeling this wasn’t related to work unfortunately. When the screen finally loaded, your stomach dropped, eyes fixated on the bold text in front of you.
“Y/N.” You looked over the monitor, Beau making his way inside on his one crutch. His jaw clenched slightly, a heaviness in his face. “Who got out?”
“They released him. T-they released him two months ago and didn’t tell me. They were supposed to tell me,” you said. Beau limped over to behind the desk, eyes wide when he saw the screen. You opened your lips but every single word caught in your throat. Beau recovered much more quickly than you, pulling you to shaky feet.
Warm hands cupped your cheeks, Beau leaning to look you in the eye. “Hey. Hey. Look at me.”
The pit in your stomach was trying to swallow you whole, eyes welling with tears as you bottom lip wobbled. Beau looked pained and pulled you into his chest, squeezing you tight. You knew he was hurt but you clung to him for a few deep breaths, letting yourself feel small in his arms.
Letting yourself pretend he could stop what was coming.
But that wasn’t true. Not at all. Beau had been taken once already. And he was still in danger.
All because of you.
Beau shushed you as you screamed into his shoulder, letting the feelings swirling through your veins out. “I’ll catch him and I’ll put him in the ground for good. I promise.”
“You can’t do that,” you whispered, shaking your head against him. “Not without a reason.”
“Sheriff.” You risked glancing at the doorway, Pop standing there along with a few other officers. “Everything okay in here?”
“You need to tell them,” said Beau softly. You shook your head, forgetting about how embarrassed you’d be an hour from now for crying all over your boss in front of your co-workers. Beau was the only person in your adult life that you’d told and that took about three years of solid friendship and way too much whiskey to be able to open up.
Beau simply patted your head and kissed the top of it. “Okay. I’ll do it. You stay here.”
He sat you in your chair before ordering everyone back to the conference room. “Beau?”
“I’ll be there in a minute,” he said. Pop closed the door on the way out, Beau giving you his full attention, kneeling down with only a slight wince.
“What do you need right now, sweetie?” He was using that voice. That sweet, gentle voice he used when he was talking to a panicking victim or someone injured in an accident. All it did was make your gut churn with nerves.
“It could be someone else,” you whispered.
“It could,” he said with a smile. You both knew that wasn’t true though. The timing. The intelligence behind hiring ex-cartel members. Grabbing Beau.
“It’s Henry isn’t it.”
“I’m pretty sure, sweetie.” You bit your bottom lip when he wiped away a stray tear. “Hey. You need to hear this.”
You prepared yourself for him to say he’d protect you, keep you safe. All things he couldn’t actually promise. But somehow Beau knew that wasn’t what you needed.
“If a seventeen year old with no training beat him and put him behind bars, then he ought to be terrified of what you’re capable of now. Because that girl? She’s going to win every single time and he knows it.” Beau tucked a loose strand of hair behind your ear as you felt yourself calm somewhat. “I’ll be back in a bit, okay?”
“I’ll be in there in a few minutes,” you said. He kissed your temple as he stood, the room quiet when he was gone. You distracted yourself by writing a few emails, one perhaps a bit too nasty to be sending but someone had seriously fucked up and it had to be corrected in the future.
With a sigh, eventually you found your way into the back of the conference room, Beau sitting at the head of the table with his laptop up. All eyes turned on you, Beau clearing his throat.
“As I was saying, Henry Frisch is suspect number one and is highly dangerous.”
“Isn’t it premature to assume it’s this Frisch guy?” asked an officer sat at the table. “You’re making a lot of assumptions.”
“Frisch got out of prison a few months ago. He’s smart, has money and I know all of you can see this is far more logical than thinking those two dumbass cartel guys were behind this,” said Beau.
“But you’re still assuming.”
“He is,” you said, feeling the heat of everyone’s gaze. “But Arlen is right. Frisch doesn’t directly target his victim. He goes after who they care about. And…”
“And?” asked Beau. You crossed your arms, staring at the floor.
“Houston correctional services can’t locate him. No credit activity in Texas in the past month. He’s not there. The two cartel guys left Texas around the same time Frisch disappeared.”
“It’s too much to be a coincidence,” said Beau.
“So who’s the victim if it’s not Sheriff?” asked a different officer. You kept on staring at the ground, a sharp intake of air around you. A quick glance showed an old picture of you on the TV screen, face looking not all that dissimilar to Beau’s. His eyes caught yours, giving you a small nod.
“Frisch was a high school english teacher. Fifteen years ago, he became obsessed with one of his students.” Beau put a picture of him up on the screen. The part you hated most was that Henry looked like a normal guy. He didn’t look crazy or scary. He was just a man.
“Officer Y/L/N.” You snapped out of your thoughts, Beau nodding at you. “You don’t have to be here for this.”
“In all fairness, I do.”
“I won’t sugarcoat this.”
“I wouldn’t want you to.” He hummed, trusting you’d leave if it was too much for you. He pulled up a report on the screen, one you’d seen a million times.
“On a Friday night, Frisch went to the Y/L/N home sometime between nine and ten wherein he killed Mr. and Mrs. Y/L/N in the living room. He then turned off the lights and waited for the daughter, Y/N Y/L/N, to arrive home.” You held your chin up, biting the inside of your cheek. “Our Y/N.”
“Holy shit,” someone muttered.
“Obviously his plan didn’t work out so well,” you said. Someone slapped you on the back, Beau forcing a smile in your direction.
“Y/N came home shortly after ten thirty where she discovered her parents. At this point, Henry Frisch attempted to abduct Y/N and the pair got in an altercation that lasted several minutes. Y/N ended up winning that one and I have no doubts we’re going to win this one too.” Heads nodded throughout the room, Pop putting his arm over your shoulders and giving you a side hug. “Let’s find this son of a bitch. Everyone be on high alert. He will go after any one of us. The closer you are to Y/N, the more of a target you are and he will know this. He planned Y/N’s abduction in high school for months before acting. Expect that same level of coordination. Pop, I don’t want you leaving the station unless necessary for the foreseeable future. You’re her partner so you have an extra target on your back.”
“Everybody.” You took a deep breath. “Don’t underestimate this man. Henry won’t think twice about killing you.”
“You beat him when you were a teenager. He might be smart but we just have to find him and then we got him,” said a cop on the far side of the room. “Just saying. He can’t be that strong.”
“She just told you not to underestimate him,” said Beau, standing and narrowing his eyes. “I would listen to her.”
“He’s not some giant. He-”
“Officer Y/L/N beat him because she was pumped full of adrenaline and going through shock at discovering her parents. It was literally a fight for her life. Yet somehow, she was smart. Smart enough to be logical while in the worst moment of her life. That teenage girl didn’t beat a weakling. She beat a man that took down two grown adults. It wasn’t because she was physically stronger. No way was she that. You want to know what she did? How she won?”
“Beau.” You gave him a warning glance. He might have known all the gory details but the rest of them didn’t need to. Beau backed off, the officer looking to you. “I am lucky to be alive. The only reason I am is because he got cocky. You can trust he won’t make that mistake again.”
The room went quiet, Beau letting everyone take a beat. You sighed, stepping forward. “Sheriff Arlen, you’re not authorized to be working. You’re on medical leave. Someone escort our fearless leader back to my house and make sure he stays there. Or he can stay at the hospital. His choice. But he needs to rest, not work.”
He raised his eyebrows, balking at you. “Excuse me? One of my officers is targeted and you think I’d-”
“You are as much of a target as I am. Hell, you’re an even bigger one. I want three officers with Arlen at all times,” you said, pointing at three of your people. “Clear the house, thoroughly, and then keep his ass inside of it until we find Frisch.”
“How the hell do you expect to do that?” said Beau, standing grumpily on his crutches.
“We know what he wants,” you said.
“No fucking way.”
“You’re not in charge right now,” you shot back.
“Neither are you.”
“I’m your second in command,” you growled. “You can’t-”
“Officer Y/L/N and I are in a relationship.” Your heart skipped a beat. He didn’t just say that did he? Did, did he not realize how much trouble he could get in for dating an officer that reported to him? That he had authority over? He could lose his damn job.
“He’s lying,” you said, trying to cover for him. “We all know he hates the idea of baiting Frisch by using me and he’ll say the craziest bullshit to stop it. He-”
“Crazy bullshit?” he asked, walking over slowly. “You’re a fucking idiot.”
“You are out of line, Arlen. Turner, take him to my house-” You froze when Beau stopped in front of you, grabbed your waist with his good arm and pulled you flush against him before delivering an exceptionally long kiss.
“You’ll lose your job,” you whispered when he broke apart, keeping his face close.
“If I have to lose it to protect you, so be it.” You shook your head, Beau shushing you. “I am not letting Henry near you. End of story.”
“You’re an idiot,” you said.
“You’re both idiots,” mumbled someone. You stepped back from Beau, watching him right his shoulders.
“If someone wants to report me for not disclosing a relationship that started 12 hours ago or thinks this is favoritism, go right ahead. Now I’m not at full speed right now. I get that. And I would kill to take a nap right now. But I am your leader and I will do what I have to in order to protect each and every one of you. I don’t agree with Y/L/N’s idea of bait. I find it too risky and we’re not jeopardizing her to get this over faster.”
Beau inhaled sharply. “I am going to go rest because I’ve had a hell of a week. If you don’t respect me, trust me, that’s fine. Y/L/N broke no rules. I did. She is still the officer in charge. Come up with a better, safer, plan and execute it.”
“Nice speech and all sheriff but you do know literally everyone in the office has been waiting for you two to get together, right?” You and Beau both scrunched up your faces, getting a quiet chuckle from the room. “Wow. They are oblivious.”
“Pop,” you said, getting a shrug from him. “You didn’t tell me? You’re my partner!”
“It seemed kind of inevitable, especially after the past week. You’ve been a little tense. And if I’m being completely honest, I don’t think either one of you should be in charge right now. You’re both way too close to this.” Your jaw dropped the same time you saw a proud little smirk appear on Beau’s face.
“Alright then. Turner, you’re in charge. Y/L/N,” said Beau as you frowned. “Work with your team, Y/L/N. You’re their best intel on Frisch.”
You sighed, grumpily agreeing. While everyone started brainstorming other ideas, Beau slipped out of the room. It was easy to catch up with him in the hall, Beau wincing more than before. You ducked under his good arm, helping him to his office where he sprawled out on the small couch.
“You really need to lie down in a bed, Beau.”
“I’m not leaving this station and neither are you,” he grunted, trying to fix the pillow behind his back. You helped adjust it before leaving for a moment, returning with a thick shock blanket from the supply closet. You draped it over top of his body, Beau closing his eyes. “Remind me not to stand on this fucking ankle.”
“Can I get you anything?” You sat on the edge of the couch, stroking your hand over his head.
“Someone needs to run by your house and grab my medicine. And maybe an air mattress. I’m serious about us not leaving here.”
You nodded, Beau nuzzling your hand when you brought it to his cheek. “Frisch won’t kill me.”
“No. But he’ll make you wish you were. He’s a psycho and fifteen years in prison didn’t do him any wonders I bet.”
“I’m going to try and understand how he got out. I would swear on my life his sentence had no parole available.” Beau slowly opened his eyes and nodded. “He got two life sentences. How could he have been let out like that?”
“Frisch came from money you said?” You hummed, Beau taking hold of your hand, interlacing your fingers. “A payoff is unlikely, not after fifteen years. They were supposed to let you know he was being released too, considering your history.”
“He didn’t escape. The system says he was released. But why on earth would they let him out?” A knock at the door made you both turn your heads, Pop’s face somber. “What is it?”
“We did some quick digging and apparently Frisch got out due to a technicality. Something to do with chain of evidence a lawyer uncovered recently. The sentence for the attack on you was only fifteen years so they had to let him go,” he said. You let out a long sigh, Beau squeezing your hand.
“We’ll find him,” said Beau, nodding towards Pop. “See if you can figure out where he’s staying and who his lawyer was for this technicality. He might know have an idea of where Frisch is.”
Pop left after Beau gave him a few more notes, the two of you quiet. Frisch was a nightmare, a nightmare Beau had to live with now as much as you. He’d gone after your parents without a second thought and now Beau was next in line.
Because of you.
“Do me a favor, Y/N. Stay safe for me, okay?” You kissed his temple and gave him a small nod, standing after a moment and turning off the light so he could get some rest.
People were back at their desks, seemingly working on something. You wandered over to Pop’s, taking a slow seat in the chair next to his. “You guys figure out a plan?”
“We’re working sheriff’s ideas. I could use some help going through properties in a hundred mile radius that fit the bill of where he’d want to take you, probably someplace similar to where Beau was.”
“Beau,” you smiled, glancing at his closed office door. “We found Beau because we trailed that guy with the out of state plates, right?”
“That house tied back to a phony name though. It was rented under an alias.” You leaned forward, still smiling. “What?”
“The house Beau was in? That was a secluded two story craftsman. Not a lot of craftsman in this area. I knew the floor plan because I grew up in a two story craftsman just like it. The same house Frisch came to and told me how he got us a home just like that one for us to live the rest of our lives in.” Pop looked leery but you didn’t have anything better to go off of. “If I’m wrong, I’m wrong. But I really think we should look at all craftsman style homes in the area first. Rentals, foreclosures, new sales.”
“Alright,” he said. You stood and smirked. “You’re pretty sure about this, aren’t you?”
“I’m pretty sure Beau was kept alive because Henry doesn’t want to kill him. Beau’s meant to keep me in line. He would have grabbed me too but I pretty much lived at the station the past week so he didn’t have a chance. But he’s going to want to try again, I guarantee it.”
“Let’s hope you’re right and it’s that simple.”
“Me too.”
Unfortunately, things with Henry were never simple.

Here's a long post no one asked for, but I gotta get off my chest. Lots of infodumping about Kingdom Hearts and in particular the casting of it's voice talent, so strap in y'all. So something I find very interesting is the way Square/Disney has treated the character of Kairi throughout the years. She started out as a damsel character, and was hated by very vocal group in the fanbase. I myself didn't really care about Kairi any which way, I didn't find her particularly interesting and I could understand the hate for the character like... a little bit? But what's funny to me is how that perception has changed over the years. Maybe there is still a very vocal group of people hating on Kairi on some forum I'm not aware of but I feel like the general consensus on her these days is: That's our girl. We can recognize that she is a victim of bad writing and the damsel trope. She's become a bit of un underdog in my mind. Like, treat her better Square! Come on!
The issue with Kairi is that she's just a... nothing sandwich. Kairi is a sweet girl, she likes Sora, she likes to write and makes good luck charms. She's also secretly a princess and therefore has a pure heart and can do nothing wrong. She is a little bit sassy sometimes, but not too much, she cares about her friends and will jump into danger to protect them, but most of the times she is the one who needs to be protected. She's strong, but not too strong, she's sweet and easygoing, and she's boring as hell. In the games at least... She rules in the manga.
Tumblr media
In the game she softly lowers a bottled letter to Sora in the ocean, while in the manga she tosses it in there with all her might.
Tumblr media
In the game she sort of runs away when Axel tries to kidnap her but in the manga she THROWS HANDS at one of the nobodies who tries to capture her.
Tumblr media
Also later in the story when she is kidnapped by Organization XIII, she actually manages to escape for a bit by wiggling through the bars of her prison cell, and then throws hands at Demyx, who is actually trying to help her out. (the manga takes some liberties with the story, it's great you should really read it if you get the chance)
Shiro Amano actually lets her put up a fight and let her actually try to escape by herself when she's captured. Watching this girl be strong and throw hands without hesitation is so so great. Shiro Amano said: Girls should be allowed to go feral once in a while, as a treat. Also I would be amiss if I didn't mention this moment with Olette:
Tumblr media
(In the game, Olette awkwardly and weakly puts up a hand to protect Kairi when Axel shows up in Twilight Town to kidnap her, but is just ignored in the most disrespectful way.)
Anyways, back to Kairi. It's sad to say, but her original characterization is just boring. She doesn't really want anything for herself and she doesn't really have a function in the story except to wait around for the boys to pay attention to her or get kidnapped and need to be rescued. And while in recent years the writers are finally exploring her being a keyblade weilder and having her actively participate in the story, they still just can't resist damseling the poor girl, fridging her, and putting her on the sidelines while Sora and Riku take center stage. It's great to see how the fandom's perception of her has changed over the years, people are seeing how Square has been dropping the ball and are actively rooting for Kairi to get more stuff to do. Fans are creating mods of the games to make Kairi playable, are writing fanfiction exploring role reversals where Kairi is the hero and there are several notible fan comics comics that explore her character in a really interesting way.
Anyways, now to get to the actual thing I wanted to talk about: How she's casted in the English version of the games, and how the inconsistent approach to the casting feels... a little disrespectful. Having a consistent voice for a character is something I, and many others really appreciate. It shows a level of care from the creators to bring a consistent group of actors together to bring life to the world. Now, VA's being replaced in the Kingdom Hearts series is not uncommon. The series is known for casting well known actors, and actor availability and budget are problems for which recasting is the solution. For example: Billy Zane got recast as Ansem by Richard Epcar, Brittany Snow by Meaghan Martin as Namine. And then of course there are Christopher Lee, Wayne Allwine, Leonard Nimoy and Rutger Hauer, who had to be recast because they sadly passed away. (RIP, Kings)
Like, all of that makes sense. So here's the confusing situation with Kairi:
Xion and Kairi share a VA in the JP version. This is an intentional creative decision that ties into the lore of Kingdom Hearts. Risa Uchida has consistently voiced these characters in Japanese for years and does a fabulous job.
Sadly this was not the case in the English version. Hayden Panettiere originated the role of Kairi in English, but they got Alyson Stoner to voice Xion when the character debuted in 358/2 days in 2009, which was originally a DS title. Before this they also got Alyson to voice Kairi in the re:Chain of Memories dub in 2008.
These titles were likely smaller budget, which becomes pretty obvious when you look at the overall quality and presentation of the cutscenes. In Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 the dialogue was recorded in English and the japanese lipsynch animation were redone to match the English dialogue. This was not the case in 358/2 days. The dialogue was recorded to match the japanese lip flaps, and the animation was not altered at all to marry the two together. So availability and budget could have been an issue in getting Hayden Panettiere to record for these games. At the time I also considered the possibility that Hayden simply didn't want to do it anymore. It wouldn't have suprised me, because these things happen. Take Brittany Snow for example, after KH2 she got her big break in the Pitch Perfect films, and probably became too busy to come back as Namine. From 2006-2010 Hayden starred in the popular TV series Heroes, which could have impacted her availability and desire to do KH. And with the lower budget for these projects, and where Hayden was at in her carreer at the time, it could stand to reason that she was simply not interested. I should also mention that in this time period Kairi barely got anything to do. When she did show up it would be for a couple of lines of dialogue. As for Xion, 358/2 days on the DS had around 10 or so voiced cutscenes. So the amount of voice work needed for the character was notably smaller compared to one of the numbered games. So the amount of voice work needed, budget, and availability could all have been factors to why Alyson took over for Hayden during this time.
Now don't get me wrong: Alyson is amazing and is, as far as I'm concerned, the definitive voice for Xion. She originated the role and brought so much to the table. She has a wonderful voice, is a talented actress and we have no choice but to stan.
Tumblr media
Before long it became apparent that Alyson replacing Hayden permanently was not on the table. In 2010 Hayden reprised her role as Kairi and took over the role of Xion in the secret ending of Birth By Sleep!
So at this point it seemed that the original creative intention for these characters would be honored. Kairi and Xion should have the same voice actress, for lore reasons, and that actress should be Hayden Panetiere, who originated the role.
And wouldn't you know it, in 2012 Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance comes out for the 3DS. It's another hand held title, but the budget is lit. There is lipsynch animation for voiced cutscenes, and the amount of voiced cutscenes is comparable to KH1, KH2 and BBS. Kairi has a few appearances, but has only one line of dialogue. Same goes for Xion, while she does get a line of dialogue near the end of the game. Hayden came in to record for Kairi and Xion and it really seemed like she would be taking over the roles from Alyson.
So obviously, at this point in time it's all but confirmed that Hayden wants to work on KH, and the creative team were making an effort to consistently bring her back as Kairi and Xion. That would be a tough deal for Alyson though, was she gonna get replaced permanently as Xion? Well wait a second and I'll tell you!
So in 2013 Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix was released. It was the first in a series of HD remasters of the Kingdom Hearts series, and the collection included KH1, KH re:Chain of Memories and around 3 hours of newly made cutscenes retelling the story of the DS game 358/2 days. Days originally featured mostly textbox cutscenes. These scenes were remade from scratch and would feature newly recorded voice acting in Japanese and English. Now I don't need to get into it but... The 358/2 days cutscene "movie" is.. not very good. It's boring to watch through, which I think is to blame entirely for the way they approached it. They remade all the cutscenes true to their original appearance, but forgot that there's no action gameplay to break up hours of dialogue scenes. The pacing is bad, the action is non existent, and what's worse is that it doesn't have adjusted lipsynch animation at all. This means the English voice acting was done to match the japanese lip flaps, resulting in awkward pauses and weird deliveries of lines.
The saving grace was that Alyson Stoner was reprising her role as Xion, recording new dialogue for the cutscenes. They also reused her previously recorded dialogue for the DS cutscenes as well. So... I guess Hayden isn't taking over Xion after all? Or perhaps it was easier to get Alyson to come back, so that they could reuse some of the original voice lines from the DS version? I can't imagine that THAT would've been the deciding factor though, because there weren't that many cutscenes from the DS version that would have to be redubbed should they get Hayden back on board. It's hard to say what the reason for this was.
But I was happy to hear Alyson as Xion in the "definitive" version of the 358/2 days story. She has a pleasant voice, and she portrays Xion beautifully in my opinion.
So then KH HD 2.5 Remix comes out in 2014 and features no new Kairi/Xion content. It does feature the Final Mix version of KH2, originally released exclusively in Japan in 2007. This version had new cutscenes, which were now finally dubbed in English for the HD remaster. What's more is they they also reanimated the lip animation to match the new English voice acting! An interesting thing to mention is that at this time, Meaghan Martin had completely taken over the role of Namine, fully replacing Brittany Snow. They luckily didn't choose to redub Brittany's original lines with Meaghan. But it does result in this funny moment where following Roxas' prologue Namine's voice is suddenly different for a single scene.
Anyways, flash forward to 2017, and the release of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Remix, which included a brand new title by the name of, and hold on to your wigs for this one....
Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth By Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage-
This was the first look at what a next gen Kingdom Hearts title would be like. You got to play as Aqua and it was wonderful and heartbreaking and cool as hell. At the end of this game a cutscene plays where after a decade Kairi finally gets to be involved in the plot again. She is summoned by Master Yen Sid to begin her training as a keyblade weilder. And she is voiced by.... Alyson Stoner??
A few years later KH3 came out, and Alyson Stoner voices both Kairi and Xion in it. She does a great job. But it's all so confusing.
It seemed so clear that the studio's intent was to get Hayden back as Kairi, and potentially Xion as well. And KH3 was the next big budget numbered title in the franchise. The casting for this game was insane, they got the full cast of Frozen to reprise their roles. Idina Mcfreaking Menzel showed up for Kingdom Hearts! What happened to getting Hayden back? I don't get it at all. This is not to shit on Alyson at all, her Kairi is adorable, and I honestly can't imagine anybody but Alyson Stoner playing Xion. Whenever Hayden picked up the role of Xion I was excited to hear her, but it never felt quite right.
But yeah, this whole situation unfolded in the weirdest of ways. For years it seemed they were absulutely set on getting Hayden to voice these characters. Was she not available to come in for KH3? Well, to answer that question:
Apparently, Hayden wasn't even ASKED to reprise Kairi.
This could of course be a situation of her representatives getting the offer from Square/Disney and choosing not to give it to her. Which happens in Hollywood, and sucks. But there's also a very real chance that Square/Disney didn't even bother reaching out and offering it to her.
Seeing how they decided to recast Hayner, Pence and Olette in KH3, even though their actors are still working as VA's and would have likely loved reprise the roles, I'm leaning to the possibility that they simply didn't bother to reach out to Hayden.
Hell, that's what she said herself.
Tumblr media
All in all it's an interesting series of events. It's confusing, and a bit saddening as well. I can speculate why it all happened, but who can really be sure what their reason for replacing Hayden were. Perhaps they decided to do it because they found Alyson to be a better fit for the character? I may be reading into things but there's this interview Hayden did for the release of KH2 were she talks about the recording process and how the voice directors would keep telling her to "raise her voice an octave higher and make it sound more princess like." I gotta say the way she said that irks me..... I love the way Kairi's voice sounds in KH2! Hayden has a beautiful voice, it's a bit lower and more mature sounding than your average cutie girl voice. I would have loved to hear that quality in the character moving forward. Alyson ended up doing a lighter, cuter version of Kairi in KH3. And I do enjoy how Kairi sounds in KH3. Like, it's fine, she sounds very adorable, and it's fine.
But idk man... it feels... weird. I can't help but feel as though they replaced her voice with a younger sounding one, taking away the strength and maturity of the voice that I loved so much. Effectively infantelizing her. And then of course they proceed to damsel her, fridge her, bring her back to life and put her on the sidelines for the foreseeable future.
I feel like it all ties together with how the writers see her. She's not really a main character after all, she's not a priority. After years of showing a dedication to keep her voice consistent, it was all just thrown out of the window in the end. It makes me feel like they just didn't care in the end, people would be more upset if Sora or Riku got recast, but they just assumed no one would really care about Kairi. I can't help but care though.
I just wish for a future where Kairi can become a main player in the story, and where she is allowed to grow and mature. Where she isn't used as a carrot to dangle in front of the male lead. Where she isn't kidnapped or killed off as motivation for someone else. Where she can be a girl who is not just pretty and adorable and easy going and sweet, but a girl who is strong, silly, determined and is willing to fight like hell for the things she cares about.
Where she is allowed to interact with the world around her, and discover what her place in it is. Where she can discover what she wants for herself, instead of constantly having to be something for someone else!
IDK, maybe that's too much to ask from a Kingdom Hearts game though, haha.

i just really don’t like the implication that without the upside down and without will going missing, byler wouldn’t happen.
maybe im just a sap but i think byler is one of those ships that’s “destined” to be together. they will just always find their way back to one another (evidence: season 4). like there’s just so much love and care and years of friendship that i think having will go missing isn’t really something that is going to put them together.
mike has always been protective of will and just bc we weren’t shown how long he’s been protective of will doesn’t mean this protectiveness was born the night will went missing.
if it wasn’t the upside down, it’s lonnie. if it isn’t lonnie, it’s the kids at school.
yeah sure it’s the 80s and it’s harder to come out and be with the person you love, but that really would be the only reason. even without el in the picture, i think byler would still get together around the age of 17/18. maybe even 16. and sure maybe mike would have a gf bc he wanted to be normal but i don’t think he would have attached himself as much to some random girl as he has with el (there would be a lack of protectiveness, guilt, etc.,). if anything, byler would have gotten together sooner if mike wasn’t dating someone else in the party.
it just feels a bit icky to me to see people say yeah will had to go missing for mike to realize his feelings for him bc i do think mike always had some sort of feelings for will and those feelings grew more and more as he got older. will doesn’t need to be a damsel in distress to get the boy lol.
like the shed scene and so many other scenes would have found their way into byler’s story one way or another and will’s kidnapping plays a minor role (maybe it speeds it up a bit but not by a lot).

Chapter 1 | Kidnapped
They laughed hysterically as they turned away from the fire and carnage which filled their ears, their eyes looking forward to narrowly dodging trees and rocks which tried and failed to stop their ‘great’ escape. The footsteps following their chase grew in numbers as one set became heavy and one seemingly swifter than the others. Their high was too strong to come down from as they had adrenaline flowing through their veins, with constant streams of the hormone keeping them from collapsing onto the forest floor.
New clean white Nike's, now splattered in the ground’s lawyer of dirt and leaves, as they took the brunt force from what nature had to throw back at them. Their great escape would not be hindered by no stick nor man which crosses their path. The largest of their creations had gone of in that stupid jail cell which they had been bailed out of, once again. News agencies would be at their door when morning comes, with cameras and microphones shoved so face into their face it would leave harsh marks, and they would give them the burning question. “Who bailed you out this time?"
They didn’t know. But maybe the people running after them knew, with their speed keeping up with theirs in the chase. They had to know something about it, otherwise why would they care so much? But (Y/n) couldn’t focus on little matters like that, only running out of the forest like they had done before and before. With the so-called ‘haunted house’ at the end of their escape route they knew every inch of it, from its creaky floorboards to the suspicious amount of skeletons in there, they always knew the route quick enough to ensure them another escape from the law.
They bet whoever following them did too, it felt like a cliche to go inside and get caught by whatever was behind them, or whoever. It could be the mob, a gang or some bread monster. They didn’t care because that wasn't them to get kidnapped, then call out to a ‘hero’ as if she were some damsel in distress.
With (Y/n) thinking quickly, they took a sudden left and bolted as hard as they could, as the taste of adrenaline slowly faded from their system, making them able to feel their legs start to become jelly, as the burning sense of astonishment became a burning sensation on their arms and her face. She hissed, a twig aimed poorly for their eyes as she hit it away. This was an alternate route, maybe this is why its so shit. Swerving around a tree and rock they realized they didn't know what was at the end of the 'road'. Could be a cliff side she would run off like in the cartoons, or a group of masked men ready to scoop them away into a grimy, humid dungeon for burning down over a 1/3 of the town.
They shook themselves from those, as the constant thinking was making running a secondary thought to their priority list. Then a ‘SWOOOOOSHHH’ came overhead and landed in the tree on the opposite side, only getting a second to turn to see what it was (Y/n) saw a glint of metal and blood as a bladed weapon nested itself into the oak. Their eyes widened, and they realized what was happening.
The fucking press found them, wait, no they were getting hunted for sport, wait. Okay maybe the masked men idea wasn’t so far fetched.
Fumbling over their own legs for a second they jumped over a suspiciously placed bolder, but almost they hit a tree-looking person. They didn’t even stop as the sight of a large blade, as it singed the top of their hair, (Y/n) was so fucked. As another hand attempted to grab their arm, they sharply pulled their arm back as it almost was touched by the unknown.. teenager? The person had a baseball cap on and one of those duffel bags; what adult would wear that in public?
They felt themself stumble and her legs trip over one another as the teenager(?) stuck his leg between her ankles as she fumbled over her legs and felt the cold dirt on her behind. Kicking herself back away as the men before her came closer she patted down her pockets and ankles and pulled out a blade. The one teen looking one laughed at it. “Whatcha gonna do with that toots? It’s as small as spie-” Then he was whacked by the taller one, the boy moaned in pain as the man looked down and grumbled at his behaviour. “Look shiela, it's 4 against one, and that knife ain't gonna take down 4 mercenaries” He spoke, (Y/n) tried to pin down that accent by then furrowed her eyebrows looking up into his face. “Mercenaries???” She mumbled, hand gripping the knife so hard it was leaving marks. Tensing her muscles hurt, but you know what hurts more? Being murdered by a gang, for just fought by one. They know that, from the TV shows the prison has on.
“Yeah? And that one looks like a teenager so what's he gonna do??” She spat back, and the boy had his mouth drop open as he sputtered out noises, the taller one chuckled but then another tall person came from the shadows. “‘Ave you idiots caught the arsonist yet?” He spoke with confidence, or maybe it was just the french accent (Y/n) could hear, then she squinted her eyes to get a better look at the newer male under the moonlight. That was a mask, and a suit? While the men all argued, after (Y/n) started to ridicule the French man’s choice of clothing they started to argue. Starting with the teenager who the french man called ‘scout’ and the taller one who he called ‘sniper’. “Well she is right there you ask her” Scout said, spitting on the french man who looked at him with disappointment like a father would. And (Y/n) pushed herself back a little more as the Frenchman went to ask her a question.
Turning, taking his disguise kit out and pulling out a cigarette. "Where 're you going?" He asked, And (y/n) paused, laughing nervously and pointed their thumb at the space behind her. "Away from you." She smiled as he narrowed his eyes down at her and pursed his lips. "Mhm, and 'ow are you going to do that?" "By standing, and running away? How else" She looked at him in confusion. Did he not know how to get up and just leave???
“Yes, but ‘ow are you going to run away?” His eyes went up then back down, (Y/n) slowly looked up. What stood above her was a giant man, like brown bear giant. What are you supposed to do when you come face to face with a brown bear? Play dead? Maybe she needed to access the internet again. Picking at the seared skin on their arm they looked up at the man with a nervous chuckle. “Hi- you are so goddamn tall” She mumbled, then he bent down and hooked his hands under her arms and lifted her up. “HEY! THE HELL MAN!!!??” She exclaimed, kicking her legs around and jabbing their foot into the man’s stomach, making him react and she grumbled in response. “See? ‘Ow would your plan go now?” The fancy pants man said to her. And she spat at his feet, he grumbled at the sight and narrowed his eyes at her. As (Y/n) held a grin on her face. “How would your plan go now? Asshat” She muttered the last part and the man holding her exhaled at the comment. “Can we go now? There's too many bugs out hereeee” Scout complained to them, sniper was already walking away and the frenchie disappeared like he was nothing but a hologram.
“Wait, heavy, where's the van?” Scout asked, ‘heavy’ stayed silent and just started walking. “Scout can follow” He finally spoke and (Y/n) looked at him. “Russian?” She asked, he nodded. “Да, heavy is Russian” He confirmed to her.
And with scout in tow they walked through the woods to wherever this ‘van’ was. If it even exists that is.

whumptober day 11: “All the lights going dark and my hope’s destroyed.” fandom: power rangers 3027 (trimberly) plot: Kim has been taken. Trini can't save her. title: leave while i'm not looking (part one, part three, part two:)
“Trini?” Kat asked through the line. Trini didn’t hear her. “Trini? Are you there?”
“Y-yeah…I….what?”
“I can’t tell you anything else. I shouldn’t have told you that much, but I didn’t want you worrying. We’ll get her back. I swear.”
“Don’t want me worrying?!” Trini leapt to her feet and started pacing her room.
“Okay, wrong wording,” Kat admitted. “Listen…we’ll find her. We’ll bring her home to you. Okay?”
“What am I supposed to do in the meantime??”
“I don’t know.” Kat sighed. “I wish I could offer more.”
“No. No, you’re…you’re fine, Trini said, shaking her head. “I know the rules.” Her hand was shaking so hard that her phone kept hitting her face. “Save her, Kat. Save my girl.”
“I will,” Kat promised. “Are you gonna be okay?”
“No,” Trini said honestly. “But I trust you.”
“Thank you. I’ll call when we’re back.”
Trini ended the call and spun around to kick her bed as hard as she could, letting out a scream. Kim was so stubborn. She knew that’s what had gotten her kidnapped. She was stubborn and reckless and contrary. But, she was brave. She was fierce. She knew how to handle herself. Trini couldn’t discount that. It was just infuriating to know that she couldn’t do a damn thing.
.
Kim was chained to a wall with her hands above her head. Her suit had retracted and she stood there in her regular clothes. It didn’t matter. Rita knew who she was. She didn’t know where she was aside from the fact that she was in a dark, dingy room made of concrete blocks. She was alone. She fought against her restraints again, trying to get free, but Rita’s powers kept her locked in. Kim could feel the metal of the shackles digging and rubbing into her wrists, but she didn’t care. She kept struggling against them.
She wore a pink tank top and jeans, and they were both torn and dirty. Her arms and face were also smeared with dirt and she was sweaty. She gritted her teeth wanting to scream and yell at Rita, but Rita had done something to her to where she couldn’t say anything. She could grunt and whine though, and she did. She kicked her legs up to…well, she didn’t know what the end goal was, but it was something to do.
She wore herself out. She slumped down, her chin hitting her chest, and closed her eyes. She wanted to go home. She wanted to go home to Trini and not have to deal with this shit anymore. Maybe Trini was right. Maybe it was time to give up. God, Trini. She could only think about how much she loved her girlfriend and how badly she didn’t want them to be on a break. She wanted to see Trini come in that door, kick Rita’s ass, and rescue her. Because as much as Kim wasn’t a damsel in distress, for all the ass she could kick on her own, she was tired. She wanted her girl. She could only hope that the other Rangers were closing in and looking for her. She had to trust them as much as she had trusted her old group.
.
Trini was still pacing, but now Tommy was in the room with her. Tommy sat on the bed and watched her worriedly. Maybe she shouldn’t have, but Trini told Tommy what was happening. Tommy was worried like her, but Trini suspected Tommy was worried for her as well. Trini wasn’t doing well. She was muttering to herself as she paced. She was thinking about her last conversation with Kim and how it had been a fight. She hated it. She wanted to hold Kim and tell her she was sorry and that she didn’t want a break. She just thought that if she pushed Kim to find herself, that she would and they’d be happier. But she didn’t care where Kim was with herself. She loved Kim.
“Why haven’t they called yet?!” She exploded.
“Give them time,” Tommy said gently. She watched Trini in concern. “Why don’t you sit down?”
“I can’t!” Trini pushed her hands through her hair in frustration. “God! If I hadn’t quit, I could be out there finding her!”
“I know,” Tommy said. “I’ve been thinking the same thing. But the Rangers will find her and bring her home. They’ll get rid of Rita once and for all. Bitch has it coming.”
“Every time we got rid of Rita, we thought it was over. But she always comes back.”
“And she’s running out of lives,” Tommy pointed out. “She gets weaker every time.”
“Still plenty strong enough to kidnap my girlfriend!” Trini stopped pacing. “What is she even after? What does she want? Why doesn’t she make another move?”
“We don’t know if she has or hasn’t, and we won’t. We won’t know any of that, because we’re not the Power Rangers anymore.”
“Is that supposed to make me feel better?” Trini stared at Tommy with wide, scared eyes.
“No,” Tommy said, shaking her head. “It’s to remind you that the only thing you need to worry about right now is Kim’s safety. We can’t control the rest.”
“I just want her home,” Trini said, collapsing onto the couch and dropping her face into her hands. “I can’t just…wait.” Tommy sighed and wrapped an arm around Trini.
“I know, Trin. I know.”
.
Going home to Trini. Going home to Trini. The words repeated themselves in Kim’s head. She tried not to think about anything else. She didn’t have a plan for when Rita returned, because she didn’t know what she could do. Rita’s stupid powers negated Kim’s. She couldn’t use her strength to break free. Her communicator was gone so she couldn’t reach out to the others. She only had herself and her thoughts. And all of her thoughts were on Trini.
What if Trini didn’t know? What if Trini still wouldn’t want to take her back? End the stupid break that they had barely started? She wanted to go home to Trini and fall into her arms and kiss her. She was convinced, however, that the moment she saw Trini, Trini would step back and not hold her. Not tell Kim she loved her.
She knew right then that she would give it all up. She would. For Trini. For herself, dammit. She had so much to do in life still. Trini was right, she had to find herself outside of being a Power Ranger. And she wanted to. She wanted to with Trini at her side.
Kim knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that she wanted to live her life with Trini. With herself. She didn’t even know what she wanted to do or be. Being a Ranger had been her whole identity for so long. But she wanted her identity to be…something more. She wanted to go home, take Trini’s hands, and ask her to marry her. Because she needed Trini in her life forever. She wanted them to live a long, healthy life together being happy. The only way she could imagine that would be to be with Trini.
But she was here. In this dark, cold room, all alone. How would the Rangers know where to even look for her? She didn’t know where she was. What if they didn’t come for her? What if…she never saw Trini again?
She felt a scream rise in her throat. A scream of frustration and anger and fear. But it didn’t come out. She choked on it. She felt tears on her cheeks, and she hated it. She didn’t want to be weak and crying, but she was scared. She was scared of so much.  She just wanted to go home.

Cress Book Quote Rp Meme
Tumblr media
book three in the LC series by Marissa Meyer- feel free to edit quotes or change pronouns for rp purposes
“I promise, I will not let you die without being kissed.”
“Don’t tell me it took you two whole days to realize that you are in love with me. I must be losing my touch.”
“You can help me pick out a tiara when we’re done saving the world.”
“Right. I’m sure that poor etiquette is the number one reason for most failed revolutions.”
"I know you can hear me. I'm sorry my friend is such a wing nut. You can just ignore him."
"Do you think it was destiny that brought us together?"
"It starts with kidnapping the groom."
"The sky is gorgeous, intense blue color."
“Have you given any thought to your wedding vows?”
“Delete anything that has to do with love, respect, or joy, and I’ll sign on the dotted line.”
“I believe it is the mark of a great leader to question the decisions that came before him.”
“It turns out you are worth a lot of money on the black market.”
"Do you ever think before you speak?"
“Maybe great, epic romances don't just happen. We have to make them ourselves.”
“Wow, when you research, you really research, don't you?”
“So I’m going there, and I’m going to start a revolution.”
“If you honestly believe that then you really don't recognize true value when you see it.”
"Oh. Um. In a constellation, the brightest star is called the alpha. I thought maybe you meant that she's…like…your brightest star.
“Maybe there isn’t such a thing as fate. Maybe it’s just the opportunities we’re given, and what we do with them. I’m beginning to think that maybe great, epic romances don’t just happen. We have to make them ourselves.”
“You know, when I was a kid, I was tricked into thinking that princesses wore tiaras and hosted tea parties. Now that I've met a real princess, I must say, I'm kind of disappointed.”
"Is she blushing? She sounds like she's blushing."
"That is the best idea ever. Count me in.”
"Can we get back to these soldiers that are being rounded up, please?"
“Could you describe all those threats again because I feel like I missed something.”
"Very wanted criminal of me too.”
"Are you having a mental breakdown right now?”
"Maybe there's a little bit of a hero in me after all. But… really. Only a little.”
“Yeah, hold that thought while I go disable the speaker system.”
“Oh, for all the stars."
“Never underestimate the stealth of a criminal mastermind.”
"I prefer damsel in distress,"
“You’re not looking.”
“We are experiencing a level-one security breach and all elevators have been temporarily shut down. Please enjoy a hot cup of tea while we wait for clearance.”
“Oh, yeah, she’s great. I mean, half the people in the world want to kill her and the other half want to chain her to a throne on the moon, which is just what she’s always wanted. So she’s fantastic.”
“You know, if it was a bad kiss, you can just say so.”
“Everyone is trying to impress everyone else. Trying to make themselves out to be smarter or more confident than they actually are.”
I hate to break this to you, but I am sweaty and itchy and haven't brush my teeth in two days. This just isn't a good time for romance.”
“I like to maintain an air of mystery.”
“That’s not at all what I … Wait. Did you think it was a bad kiss?”
“We were going to die, you know.”
“Because the palace walls have been bleeding for years, and no one else sees it.”
“Don't try to push your swoony psychodrama on me.”
“It would be like those epic love affairs that exploded into existence and burned white hot for all eternity. The type of love that time and distance and death couldn't seperate”
“All right, damsel. Send over those coordinates.”
"I think I am in love with you."
“Maybe there isn’t such a thing as fate. Maybe it’s just the opportunities we’re given, and what we do with them.”
“We are obviously soul mates. Now please, stand up.”
“You’ve probably told lots of girls you loved them.”
“Well, yeah, but I would have reconsidered if I’d known you were going to hold it against me.”
“It was kind of nice to know that they were both wrong."
“For my next trick, I will win a staring contest with the moron in orange sunglasses.”
“Good. Because I need you. And those are not words that I throw around every day.”
“Although. . . somehow, I always pictured the princess . . . I don't know. In a dress.”
“She was a girl. A living girl, smart and sweet and awkward and unusual, and she was worth far more than they could ever realize.”
“I serve my princess. No one else.”
“I am not happy with this turn of events."
“Well, it’s annoying and we’re running out of time. Come on.”
"You'd rather take your chances with her?"
“Then stop going comatose on me!”
“He’s just gone inside to be heroic. I’m sure he’ll be glad to know you’re here. I believe he’s under the impression that you’re out in space somewhere.”
“It always came back to love. More than freedom, more than acceptance—love. True love, like they sang about in the second era. The kind that filled up a person's soul. The kind that lent itself to dramatic gestures and sacrifices. The kind that was irresistible and all-encompassing.”
“I just needed some time to figure out who I was … am.”
"Because if I'd ruined that for you, I was going to feel like such a cad.”
“I can’t let anyone else die,”
“What do you suggest? You clearly know all about this political revolution stuff, so please enlighten me, O wrinkled one.”
“The only way through this is to fight.”
“She deserved it, the snake. After keeping my little golden bird locked up in her cage for so long.”
“I just think I’m not the best person to demonstrate all the goodness humanity has to offer. I don’t want you to be too disappointed when you realize that.”
“That you’re lonely, and I’m irresistible?”
“He did, in fact, look like a romance hero, all muscles and edges and chiseled bone structure. He also looked miserable.”
“Our country was built on a foundation of equality and togetherness, not prejudice and hatred.”
“When Rapunzel saw the prince, she fell over him and began to weep, and her tears dropped into his eyes”
No more secrets. I don't know if I can survive any more big reveals from you, so if you have anything else to tell me, out with it. Right now."
this is sweet, but aren’t I the first guy you’ve ever met? Come on, up you go.”
“She would have freedom, and friendships, and purpose. And she would be with him.”
“Because if there was one thing she knew about heroes, it was that they could not resist a damsel in distress. And she was nothing if not in distress.”
“Love. It always came back to love. More than freedom, more than acceptance—love. True love, like they sang about in the second era. The kind that filled up a person’s soul. The kind that lent itself to dramatic gestures and sacrifices. The kind that was irresistible and all-encompassing.”
I'm almost afraid to ask, Your Majesty."
“As it turned out, being human was every bit as much fun as she'd always thought it would be.”

Helluva Boss Theory “Striker Kidnaps Stolas”
in the trailer release of helluva boss, we saw clips of stolas being kidnapped by striker and being tied to a train wrack, and stolas calling IMP while being captured
alot of things aren’t being made clear as to why or how any of this happened, like how did stolas manage to get his phone, and not have striker hear him?!,
also i really don’t understand as to why striker would go through all that effort to kidnap stolas and tie him up to train tracks all the way in wrath ring, my guess is that stolas fought back and fought HARD, but since striker got powerful angelic weapons, most likely from andralphus or stella, it’s possible he managed to lasso stolas with a holly rope and tie him up, but the whole train track thing still confuses me
this one is going to be a big stretch, but i think the reason why striker was tying stolas to the train tracks because stella had him do so, and i also think she wanted octavia to watch him get run over or killed, as a way too teach her a lesson on what happens when you become “traitorous embarrassments”, it’s a huge stretch to say that we haven’t see how stella is like with octavia as a mothher, but considering how vile and monstrous stella can be to stolas, i wouldn’t put it past her to do something like that, since having octavia see stolas like that would be tormenting to him, and she loves to torment him
alot of people think that stolas let himself be tied up and captured because he does like to be the damsel in distress, but here’s the thing, i highly, HIGHLY doubt that stolas is stupid enough to do that when he’s literally being assassinated, and you can tell from the clips that stolas did not go down easy, this man got stabbed and has bruises, and even has a scar over his eye, he put up a fight, and he’s not enjoying himself, he’s all powerful being it would take a lot for him to go down, not to mention he’s not a very good place mentally, so striker chose the perfect time to kill him
also, some have theorized that stolas let himself be captured so he can have blitz save him and be his knight in shinning armour, which i also HIGHLY doubt considering 1, stolas and blitz are in a very awkward position with each other, 2, he’s coming out out his high fantasy and realizing that blitz was using him and doesn’t actually care about him
i previously talked about the hospital scene in the season 2 trailer being either fizz or stolas on the bed, putting their phone away, their is still a chance that it’s fizz, but judging how this season is going, it’s possible that it’s stolas that we see in the hospital bed, and he was maybe checking his phone to see if blitz contacted him or whatever, but their does appear to be a vase of roses, so maybe while stolas was unconscious, blitz sneaked it in but didn’t put his name or anything
i also doubt that stolas is going to be the one dying, his character his WAY to important to blitz’s development and to the story of helluva boss, killing him off would be a terrible narrative to go, because now they just lost their major key, plus it’ll be such a waste for those two be finally work out their issues and become a couple only for stolas to die, like WTF?!!, but i think he’ll have a near death scene, but ends up being okay

For the made up title "I hate you... But I love you too"
It's the title from my very first fic 20 years ago or something like that. (It was Beyblade Back than. I think it was the only fic where I First thought about a title and then about the fandom and pairing. I never ended it. But it was fun)
Can't wait to hear what you come up with in the witcher universe
This title makes me think Yennskier, so:
Modern with magic AU where Jaskier and Yennefer are both in long-term relationships with Geralt, but can't stand each other. The only time they've ever been in a room together for more than five minutes without getting into a fight, Jaskier was unconscious.
Something happens to Geralt. Maybe he makes the wrong enemy on a contract or gets captured by someone who wants to use him to make more witchers. Whatever it is, Yennefer and Jaskier come to the horrifying realization that they're going to have to work together to get him back.
For Unspecified Plot Reasons, the easiest way to get close to the person who might have Geralt captive is to go undercover as a suburban couple, because if I'm going to do tropey enemies-to-lovers, I'm going to go all out with the tropes.
Jaskier throws himself into the role of Suburban Husband with aplomb, as he does all his performances. He learns to grill (but not well.) He volunteers to coach the neighborhood T-ball team, even though he's never played T-ball in his life and has to Google what it is. He starts mowing the lawn daily, until he nearly runs over his own foot and Yennefer makes the lawnmower vanish for everyone's safety.
Yennefer doesn't adapt as well. She's not very good at playing the Normal Suburban Thirtysomething, what with her violet eyes and general air of scariness, so she doesn't do a very good job at blending in. This causes some friction, as she thinks that Jaskier isn't taking their mission to get Geralt back seriously, while he thinks she's going to blow their cover.
But much to Yennefer's chagrin, once they get to know each other, they start to genuinely like each other. They bond over what blithering idiots the local Homeowners' Association are, as well as how Jaskier was robbed at the neighborhood chili cook off. They naturally have to do things like canoodle in public to satisfy the nosy neighbors, because what would a fake marriage AU be without canoodling for the ruse?
To Yennefer's even further chagrin, she realizes that at some point, she's fallen in love with Jaskier.
They fall into bed together. For the ruse, of course.
Eventually, they figure out who has Geralt captive, and Jaskier probably gets kidnapped too, because what's a Yennskier fic without Jaskier being the damsel in distress at least once, and Yennefer is able to save both of them.
Geralt is mostly unharmed and has no idea how in the span of weeks, Jaskier and Yennefer went from being mortal enemies to being married (they forget to tell him that it was all for show) but he decides to just roll with it.
Jaskier insists on calling Yennefer his wife, even once they're all home safe. She pretends to hate it. She doesn't.

Okay but for the Pirates Au because holy shit I'm fucking feral over the concept, morally ambiguous characters fucking SEND ME, may I humbly offer you the concept of Cutler Becket? Because obviously our boys are all varying versions of chaotic dumbass but the true villain of the piece, the one who makes her snap out of sacrificing her own happiness for duty is the Lawful Evil fucklord of Cutler Becket.
And because I crave NRC/RSA violence, he's gotta be one of them. Some rich, entitled noble who's been given power beyond imagination and who's never been taught empathy to wield it carefully and if you think Azul and Vil and Malleus take advantage of the situation to get what they want hoo boy is Becket so much worse.
Because MC is already so tired of being nice, so close to just going apeshit being kidnapped by what seems like everyone in possession of a barely sea worthy dingy and their cousin, at the very least they treat her like a person worth fighting for (wah wah). But Becket? He doesn't want a partner, he wants a trophy, a status symbol and a living embodiment of a fuck you towards literally everyone. He will have MC as his just to lord it over his enemies, stealing the treasure that coveted out from under their noses.
And MC is having exactly none of that shit. This time when she escapes, she's not tired, she's fucking pissed. Maybe Becket has crossed a line. Maybe he's gotten Riddle demoted and pushed him into evolving into (in my humble opinion) sexy smelly Norington who is more of a pirate than he'd like to admit. Maybe he's threatened Grim and motherfucker no one threatens your emotional support chaos demon and doesn't suffer the consequences. Maybe she hears of the blackmail Becket uses to force Crewel to grant him even more powerful and wealth out of concern for his child. Maybe he was just a little too smug about "rescuing you from the pirates" (it wasn't cute when zuko did it, it def ain't cute when Becket does it).
Either way, MC is ready to fucking take names and that is what she fucking does. Becket is about to take control of the seas? She has more than a few pirate captains who fucking owe her and she is not above using what she learned from them to manipulate them into doing her bidding. Damsel in distress who? For every time she was betrayed, every time she found herself once again tossed around by the whims of others, she learned. And she was ready to get some catharsis by taking over the seas herself, after all, who better to be the king of the Pirates than the treasure everyone sought to possess?
( I am so sorry for tye rant I have so much PotC brainrot and youve unlocked something in my soul. 🥲 you're amazing I hope you're having a good day!)
….
c’mere
just for a second cause-
Tumblr media
oh my god.
this is pure gold. like. i don’t know what else there is to say honestly
AND IM TRYING TO THINK ABOUT WHO’LL PLAY BECKKET BUT IDK WHOOOOO
neige is already in the sorry. so maybe chen’ya??? cause he likes to fuck shit up😳😳
AND I PERSONALLY THINK CHEN’YA IS A LIL ACE AND THE FACT THAT HES LINKED WITH THE CHESIRE CAT JUST MAISS IT 100% BETTER MWAH DELICIOUS
maybe he’s son stuck up noble from heartsbyual. indeed trey and riddle’s friend who was born with a silver spoon on his mouth and doesn’t understand the consequences of his own actions
and he says how cute his little friend riddle is for trying to get back his lovely fiancé and decides to join in the fun!
no he doesn’t actually want to marry you! he just wants to keep you for the kicks of it!

*thinking about your Holding Out For A Hero post* elaborate elaborate elaborate pLEASE elaborate
Ok, ok, it took a hot minute but i have time to elaborate now.
So the premise is simple. Son of Aphrodite Langa is kidnapped, used as bait, whatever to get something else in exchange. And like, i don't care what people say, Aphrodite is one of the most powerful goddesses, so it would make sense that one of her kids are taken, especially especially when those kids are viewed as helpless and weak because they don't seem to have the fighting abilities of the other children. I mean, all they care about it how they look and who has a crush on them, right?
Anyway, Langa is stuck, and maybe whoever took the kid wants him to be in love with them because do you know how much power that would give them? Having Langa be on their side? So while Langa isn't tortured, he's still stuck. And while stuck, he probably makes friend with something/someone, just to keep him from going crazy. Probably like one of the villains aids, or a maid of sort. Not anyone outwardly evil, no one that would really get anything out of this kidnapping, but still on the wrong side of history (if you'll excuse the expression)
So they're asking him what his ideal partner would be, probably to report it to the main villain. Which brings the first verse. 1) it reveals Langa's homosexuality, 2) the Hercules reference is just too good. And hero = good. Langa needs someone good, not this villain.
Meanwhile, Reki is out there, searching for his love, his Langa. He's gonna be Langa's hero. And he's strong, he's fast, and trust, he'll be fresh from the strong. (also, to Langa, Reki is larger than life. What's life without Reki?)
Also, just the melody and beat and whatever. It just. The speed and the intensity gives me Langa's anger. The power behind that first I Need A Hero is very Langa snapping, essentially going "I'll never love you, no matter what you do. You'll never be my hero" and also that he's gonna wait for as long as he must for Reki to get there.
By the second verse, Reki gets there, Langa spots him because he always knows when Reki is near. (I have opinions about how Dite kids abilities should work). Also Reki is just beyond his reach, and Reki's reaching back at him in some way, y'know?
"it's gonna take a superman to sweep my off my feet" -> that's when Reki gets there for real, within Langa's reach, and that's where Langa fucking snaps. All that pent up anger and frustration, bad guys are fucked. Because they have Reki fighting them, but also a very angry Langa that's seeing his love fighting, potentially getting hurt (you could say, he has fire in his blood.... Y'know because lyrics and also Hephaestus kid being the one he adores). And anger, one of the strongest passions, one that stands by Aphrodite's side, who can beat anger? A lover will raise a war for their beloved. And Langa is not above that.
Langa needs a hero, it's whats "expected" of him, but also. He's no damsel in distress. He's pent up anger and frustration that will make everything blow for the one he loves. What's a world without his hero, without his Reki. He'll wait forever for him, but Reki will be the reason Langa raises hell.
TL;DR: Holding Out For a Hero is a Langa song but not in he way one would expect. He isn't a damsel in distress, but his hero will be the trigger that will get him to destroy everything in his way

honestly question I alays value your opinion and we mostly agree on everything but I do like the damsel in distress (of course with a limit and depends on the writing there is many good writters that make a situation where even being rescued comes off as non weak if i could word it properly) I like it specially on self insert situations like a prince saving? I am a girl so... Maaybe that helps but do you think this is bad? )=
It's definitely not bad if you like this trope. It's a subjective topic, so I'm obviously not gonna criticise anyone for liking it. However, for me, I detest this trope with a burning passion. Maybe I wouldn't hate it so much if it wasn't so common, or if the genders were reversed more often and it was the girls who needed to save the guys from something for a change. But for some reason, hardly any writers (relative to the number who use the damsel in distress trope) ever think that a male could ever find himself in such a situation. Even when the male would need to be saved from a simple living situation rather than a dangerous physical one like being kidnapped, these plot points just hardly ever happen. And yet, these writers will readily go out of their way and the extra mile to create all these outlandish scenarios where even the most badass woman will need to be saved from something or other by her knight in shining armour.
It's not the fact that it makes the women look weak that I have an issue with (well not entirely anyway), it's mainly the fact that writers constantly feel that they need to put these women in these situations in the first place, even when they've demonstrated that they can very clearly take care of themselves. Or if it's a romance, they feel that the men need need to rescue his love interest because that would prove his worth, or the depth of his feelings, or they include them for some outdated chivalric purposes, because for some reason, a man saving a woman is considered to be romantic, but a woman saving a man isn't. Why is that? It's the same damn thing, and the levels of romantic undertones in an action or gesture shouldn't be dictated by the person's gender.
Maybe the fact that I generally just hate all kinds of gender discrepancies in society, plays a large role in my utter hatred for this trope, but its prevalence also just often makes the plot progression rather predictable. I mean, as an example, look at the original trilogy of Spider-Man movies...
In No.1, Mary Jane gets kidnapped by the Green Goblin, and Peter has to save her.
In No.2, Mary Jane gets kidnapped by Doctor Octopus, and Peter has to save her.
In No.3, Mary Jane gets kidnapped by Venom and The Sandman, and Peter has to save her yet again.
It got so damn boring to see the same thing over and over again. Now, whenever I come across a story about a male action hero, I just know that his female love interest is probably eventually gonna need saving at least once. MJ is obviously powerless in comparison to those superhuman beings, but why was it necessary to put her in those situations in the first place? Why is it, that some writers feel this incessant need to have the male hero save his love interest? Are they so unimaginative that they can't think of anything else to include during the hero's conflict with the villain, so they fall back on this tired trope, to the point of including it in their fiction 3 times in a row? Would it kill them to have a scene where the hero gets himself in a dire situation due to being initially bested by the antagonist, and his love interest saves/rescues him from that situation?
Okay rant over. Long story short, no you liking damsels in distress is of course not bad at all. But personally, I can't stand that trope.

Hello good day.
If it's not a bother...
Could I ask for a mini fic of Maddie getting captured and gets rescued by Nick....
Please and Thank you 🙏🙏🙏
Hiya!! So this is set mid series? I’m not sure but I may be messing up the continuity. Hope you like it!!
Wrapped up in a red blanket, Nick’s most precious one, to be precise, Maddie Rocca sat in front of a fire set up by Chip and his magic, warming her, and soothing her, while Clare tried to brew some soup, and not mess it up like she did with the potions.
“I don’t understand. Why’d they go after Maddie, specifically” Xander shrugged, settling down next to where Maddie and Vida were, putting an arm around the sisters, to make them calm down.
“Koragg is a freak” Vida declared, “but there’s always a reason for everything he does” Nick hadn’t spoken anything since him and Maddie had returned, he just stood by the window, blowing off steam. Maddie herself didn’t say anything either except the occasional reassurances, like “I’m okay, sis, don’t worry”.
See, Koragg had kidnapped Maddie, and then he had sent Nick an awful message about coming alone to rescue her. He’d freaked out so bad, burning with anger, while he tried to keep a cool mind to come up with a plan to save her, and all their friends had tried to calm him down and tell him that they’d go with him. But he’d refused, and ran into the metaphorical inferno alone, with the only thought raging in his mind being that of protecting Maddie. Somehow he’d succeeded in freeing her, and the two of them had made it back to rootcore… However, something had happened— something emotional— that had left both of them in deep thought. Something they weren’t sharing with the others… and that meant that Vida, Chip, Xander, Clare and Udonna were left to their own tools, and speculations about what had happened.
“Waiiiit what if Koragg wanted something to do with Maddie’s water powers?” Clare offered.
“Koragg is a knight and a wizard himself don’t you think he could manage it? Besides why would he tell Nick ALONE, and particularly to come and rescue Maddie?” Xander countered.
“Maybe he wanted a damsel in distress drama? You know?? Maybe the underworld got a power cut and Koragg couldn’t see his favorite tv show?” Chip giggled, “and so he set up a live action version for it?”
“Okay that’s stupid. I can totally see it working” Vida grinned with him, and that’s when Maddie finally spoke, causing pin drop silence to set over the rootcore.
“He did it because he wanted to torment Nick.” She looked over to Nick, who was staring outside the window with a far off expression, “he knew, somehow, what Nick felt for me. And he wanted to torment him”
At this Nick turned around, and the others realised he’d been silently weeping this entire time, his cheeks stained, but his voice was steady when he spoke, “I hate what I made you go through… I’m— im sorry… I’m just not used to feeling these… things… I didn’t know how to handle it” he said through gritted teeth. Nick rarely ever admitted things about himself, this was a new side of him for almost everyone.
Maddie got up, clutching the blanket around herself even more, and made her way to Nick, “you could’ve told me about it…”
“Didn’t I?”
“You did…”
“But I was too late” he picked up what she’d been meaning to say, “I’m sorry…” he looked like a puppy in the rain.
“It’s okay, Nick. Sometimes, we just can’t handle all those emotions” she placed a hand on his shoulder, “the important thing is that you could’ve told me beforehand? I wouldn’t have had to find out from Koragg…”
“I know. I know. I messed up” he ran a hand through his hair, then looked at her again, “but I never realised just what I felt for you until… well until Koragg took you away. I’d have killed everyone around, and then myself, if anything ever happened to you.”
It was still not the confession Maddie had hoped for, with Nick being as closed up as he usually was, but it was a start. They would work their way from there. It was a beginning. And Maddie liked that.

“books-are-my-life-stuff: Yeah, as she was the one who spotted the meteor for the first time, she'd be the one to look for it as you said, but nope. Delta Episode and Dragon that Rules the Sky were very emotional for me, for showing Zinnia's effort, and failing, and succeeding, but this? She just suddenly can do it, and while that still made me emotional, not as much as Dragon that Rules the Sky. It's funny, yeah. I guess Deoxys is now stuck with Steven infodumping about cool rocks 24/7 now.“
Deoxys: “He’s been going for six Earth hours.”
Rayquaza: “Oh, you are not going to last here if that’s too much for you.”
I’d agree.  It’s a little bit of an under-selling when it just happens that quickly, without any real buildup.  But, what can you do, I guess?
“Yeah, I like Archie more for the same reason, though maybe my perspective will change whenever I get to play Omega Ruby--I only played Alpha Sapphire and only had that. The last part of the villain arc where Archie and Maxie finally become friends again made me smile and happy, though. I'm glad that they get along again, joining the team was also a bonus.”
I need to replay Omega Ruby too.  It’s been so long.  But admittedly, I don’t love ORAS as much, for potentially dumb reasons.  I hate the Mauville design, that place drives me insane now, and I don’t like that they make me wait until the bike to get Aron.
“I guess, when you look at the Team Rocket's scene that way...yeah, it's pretty bleak. No one knows what'd happen to the trainers that got their Pokemon stolen, and nobody was keeping watch because there were two legendaries fighting and a meteorite to deal with. Just so many things happening all at once, huh.”
I’d say thankfully Looker is here, but he’s been busy with Aqua and Magma too.  If only he had some backup.  HINT HINT
“God, I really REALLY hope Colress will eventually appear in Unova Villain Arc. It's not complete without him, not at all. I like the guy so much in B2W2. Pretty sure Ghetsis might be defeated, yeah, but probably not by Giovanni but by Colress and N? Lysandre is not the kind of person that's easy to be manipulated, so I'm sure he'll be an interesting villain whenever the villain arc drops.”
That’s my guess.  USUM did very much establish that Colress hates Ghetsis, so I can’t imagine they’ll get along.  And Lysandre will go down whatever his path may be, I just want it to be focused on whatever his deal is.
“Yeah, I'm rather wary at how Alola Villain Arc will turn out, especially because Masters Lusamine is USUM Lusamine. I kinda want Lillie to play as an active role instead of damsel in distress though. I have no predictions, I'm just going to say I feel rather wary.”
I go back and forth on Lillie.  On the one hand, I’d agree, I want her to be important.  But on the other, Lillie and Gladion being fine and safe and just part of the team means Lusamine is also fine, and I don’t want that.  My biggest issue with Redeemed Lusamine is that nothing happened to warrant it.  It’s a light switch that flips off-screen.  If she’d struggled more with the transition, or had any kind of arc to the progression, I’d be more inclined to support it.  Lillie being in danger does remove Lillie from the narrative temporarily, but I think they could set up Lillie’s kidnapping in part 1 and Lusamine’s rescue of her through extreme, Ultra Beast related means as the setup for Lusamine’s villain arc, and the second half being focused on Lusamine’s rampage of revenge and Lillie’s attempt to intervene and help her back on the right path.  It’d be something, at least.
“It's really hard to tell Steven and Zinnia's dynamic. They're not friends. They were kinda enemies in Delta Episode. Now they're in better terms, but not really friends. Hard to explain, I just like their dynamic a lot.”
Frienemies.  Or something like that anyway.

Moments of Stupidity 12
Okay, so I'm once again not including the childishly petty arguing between Stella and Stolas. It just felt stupid to watch but I don't think it was anything stupid that greatly affected the plot. If it actually makes a difference in the overall narrative, as shocking as it would be, but it at least didn't make much of a difference in this episode. In fact, the conversation itself is so inconsequential since the only thing that really mattered at the beginning was that Stolas was at that restaurant for Striker to swoop in and kidnap him. Andreaphlus, Stella, and Stolas highly likely could have been talking about anything else and that's how much difference it would make for the plot
Western Energy -
First moment goes to Stolas, for not using his fucking powers other than flying away only to get caught in holy rope. Maybe that can be excused by how pampered and sheltered Stolas is bound to be that he's unaccustomed to not react more appropriately to danger but there's something about the way I saw how he reacted that made me think 'dumb'.
But then there's Stolas's next moment, for taking so damn long to realize he's in fucking danger. Fuck seriously, shot at by an assassin, tied up in blessed rope, and being carried away on a horse like a cowboy's hostage. And it wasn't until Striker took the phone away, taunted Blitzo over the phone, and then smashed the fucking phone that it finally registers in Stolas's head. Just... moving on...
Third moment of stupidity on Stolas's part, never trying to escape himself. Sure, again, he could be so pampered and sheltered that he wouldn't have gotten far in helping himself, but that's just it. Stolas didn't even try. He never tried rolling off the horse, he never used his untied legs and hands to do anything, just. Fucking. Nothing. Instead, Stolas just looks bored as he rides the entire fucking way to Striker's hideout, even though he was never being held by Striker for most of the way. Maybe the explanation - not a justification - is that Stolas is still desiring to live out a fantastical romance novel with Blitzo that he's willingly the damsel in distress. Seriously, that could be the reason why Stolas called Blitzo as his first reaction towards being kidnapped, goes on and on about Blitzo the entire damn time he's being tortured, and even had Blitzo's name as his last word when Striker was about to cut his eyes out; Stolas only bothered speaking of Octavia when Striker directly threatened her but, otherwise, Blitzo was the only thing in his fucking-filled mind. But if I'm right in my guess on why Stolas never even tried to escape when he totally could have done something, then it's still stupid that he prioritized living out a fantasy with Blitzo in the knight-in-shining-armor role over actually helping himself and whether or not he gets to see Octavia again. Because yeah, I just realized that, if Stolas could get hurt or even die, then it will leave Octavia fatherless and alone with Stella. Either Octavia's future way of life and future anguish never registered in Stola's head or he decided it wasn't very important. Neither one makes Stolas look good
A small moment of stupidity Stolas has is shared with Blitzo and Moxxie, when Stolas was calling to ask for help about being kidnapped. Every single one of these fuckers act like it was tricky to remember fucking Striker. And maybe they did legit forget Striker of all people. Blitzo couldn't remember the guy who was going to kill off his 'easiest ticket to the human world behind his back'. Stolas couldn't remember the guy he declared a winner alongside Blitzo in the Pain Games; even the maybe explanation that Stolas didn't consider Striker so important to remember doesn't stop me from thinking it's stupid for the recognition to never kick in. And Moxxie was a little bit stupider because he chastises Blitzo with 'how many cowboys do you know?' but then immediately asks for Striker's description. How many cowboys do you fucking know, Moxxie?
Either the hospital Blitzo and Loona goes to or the nurse at the counter because what use is someone who doesn't know how to read and write when it comes to running the counter at a hospital? I'm happy for the nurse that she got a job despite that but she's incredibly lucky that something went wrong at that hiring process
The gang of cowboys for their reason for picking a fight. Seriously? Same hat? It's apparently made on a massive enough scale if Moxxie just so happened to have the same kind of hat just laying around in the I.M.P. van. The maybe explanation is that the cowboy gang just wanted to pick on a seemingly weak target (and Moxxie probably should have been physically weaker because it feels like he was only written to be strong badass because plenty of fans had enough of Moxxie being a damsel in distress even against his own damn father)
Stella... oh, boy, Stella. Like I said, this episode really highlighted her so obvious let's get to it. First, she was just so obvious that she sent the assassin after him that, if it wasn't for Stolas being so stupid to ever even tell anybody, Stella would be in fucking hot water. Maybe she was so confident that Stolas was going to die but that's a gamble right there. There is the part where Stella had it spelled out for her that she'll get nothing if Stolas were to die now but I like to view it differently. Stella could have known all along that Stolas hated her too much to willingly leave her anything. In fact, Stella probably only bothered talking about the divorce stuff so that it gives Striker the chance to come in and kidnap Stolas
The really stupid moment of Stella's is the fact she wanted Stolas to have the 'royal treatment', which is Striker torturing Stolas before finally killing him off. With no cameras recording it, with Stella not looking in through some magical object, with absolutely nothing that would provide Stella with a show. Considering that Stella is at least characterized to be a sadist, then how the fuck was she going to enjoy it? Was she just going to have Striker tell her all about it?
Of course, Striker had plenty of stupid moments throughout this episode, since he was so reckless that it became stupid. If anything, probably the only thing he didn't do was stupid was going along with provided the 'royal treatment' to Stolas. After all, it's what Stella paid for and it gave Striker the chance to let out his anger on a blue blood, so why not?
Anyways, 1) just barging into the restaurant, attacking Stolas, and carrying off with a Geotia as his very clear hostage with a shit ton of witnesses around 2) letting himself be seen so much that he legit has wanted posters on the walls; I just find it weird for a fucking assassin 3) waiting a minute or so into the fucking phone call Stolas was making before finally taking the phone away and crushing it. Fuck seriously, you waited that long before finally doing that? Even though you said that you can hear it? 4) Having a hideout that's well known enough for Millie to be able to find out about when she asked for directions. Again, weird for an assassin and 5) never holding onto Stolas to make sure he wouldn't try escaping like, say, rolling off of Bombproof. There was one instance, when Bombproof got up on his hind legs on the train, but that seemed more like part of the fun and the song than anything. Striker's just lucky that Stolas was too stupid to even try. I think I'll throw in a 6) since Striker got so easily disgusted at all the sex jokes. Not only is he supposed to be an assassin, he's also supposed to be an expert assassin. I would have expected someone like that to not be so easily fazed when carrying out a kill, to tablet the unexpected, and to be flexible and adaptable since I think his job is the kind of job where anything can and would go wrong. Instead, if Striker came after me, I can just make a sex joke and I'll have an window of opportunity to do something about him
Blitzo manages to cap off the episode with a small but still significant stupid moment. He acted shocked that Stolas could get hurt. What was the fucking point of season 1 episode 5 Harvest Moon Festival!?!?! Loo Loo Land was one thing since Stolas asked you and you only accepted at getting paid money. But then you fought off Striker so that he wouldn't kill Stolas! Why the fuck would you bother doing that if you just now realized that he could get hurt!?!?

book three in the LC series by Marissa Meyer- feel free to edit quotes or change pronouns for rp purposes
