I know people hate comparisons with yr and hs, but one thing I really appreciate about yr and what I think sets it apart from most other shows (including hs), is that none of the characters feel overly groomed or stylized. Except maybe August but that fits with his personality. All tv shows have a makeup , hair, and costume crew. A lot of thought of course goes into that. But something that is SO common in tv now are characters looking very “polished”. Even in hs, other than Darcy, it is common to see this. Hair and makeup done perfectly, outfits that are never worn more than once, etc. Young Royals isn’t like that. Outfits repeat. Hair looks natural and not overdone. The characters look like people you could see in your daily life. Like REAL people. The irony is that most of the characters in yr are rich as hell. You could actually excuse them walking around looking perfect. But you don’t see it. It’s very much a skamverse vibe. I wish more shows did this.

It's a little strange to me that people on twitter (X) are saying that Anais' season was the best season in the entire skam universe. I hate to say this but it's not true. The plot was a mess...and Bobbie wasn't the best love interest either. Of course, because of the poor writing. Nell and Laura's chemistry was amazing. I think this season was successful because of them. the best skam season for me:

But this is just my opinion.

I think its down to subjectivity honestly, like for me, druck s6 will always be the best skamverse season even if other disagree, and for anais season, even if the writing and plot was lacking, anobbie was really great when it came to development and chemistry, and since some people only watch for the romance, that's a win in their book

And tbh, now that I think about it, the plot wasn't even that bad in anais season, the only problem really was that it was dragged out way too long, I think if they made the confession in ep8 instead of 9, the plot would have been more satisfying, because there would've been more time for resolution and character development, and anobbie had some really great scenes and parallels, you can't deny that, so I can see why people say its the best skamverse season for them

And for bobbie, I think she was actually really characterised well, apart from that phone call in ep9 her behaviour made sense from her viewpoint, the only problem was again that the plot was dragged too much, but imo she's really well fleshed out, almost like kieu my was fleshed out well

I was reading other fanfic late one night, March of 2021 and I stumbled on an Evak fanfic. I had to find out more. Three hours later, I'm watching S3 on my phone in the dark, sobbing at O Helga Natt. When it was done, I couldn't sleep. I was shaken to my core, I knew it was life-changing. I devoured all four seasons but my heart belongs to Evak. They resonate so profoundly. Thanks to BigBang friends, I'm finally watching a remake, starting with WTFock! I know, I know... but it always felt a little like cheating…

Why are you excited to participate in the Skam Big Bang?

I read thousands of fanfics in the early days of my obsession but never engaged fandom until I was so moved by a fic to let the author know how much their writing meant. This led to joining the 21 Big Bang as a beta reader and connecting with this incredibly supportive, smart, funny, like-minded community online. They encouraged me to try writing, which I had never done. I joined the 22 Bang, completed a massive fic (maybe you’ve read it) and deepened friendships in this community even traveling to Norway to meet up. This year I joined as a mod to make sure the Bang would continue, to help keep this amazing fandom alive.

What would you say to someone who is feeling nervous about joining?

I know exactly what you're feeling, that was me for so long. I took a leap of faith and it was the best decision ever. This community and the people in it have become an important part of my life. Sharing your Skam obsession with others is a gift. If you've never shared your writing/art and worry about putting it out there or have always been a lone wolf, rest assured, this community just wants to help. They're so supportive, helpful, kind. I just finished skam italia season 5 today and...... surprisingly i love it so much!!! I think from all of the original season that we got from the remakes, it deserve to be put on top 3 after druck's nora and skamfr's lola.

The whole thing about elia's body insecurity is makes a lotttttttt of sense. It may seems simple, but honestly penis size always become a great deal among boys and a lot of teenager experience it. It also feel refreshing because this kind of theme never got explored in another skam.

I also love how they potray how elia still can't get over his mother's death and despise his father for having a new relationship. I mean, I know it's not fair for his father, but it's always hurt most how the people that you expect would be in as much pain as yours slowly moved on.

I also really love how they handle the friendship dynamics between the whole cast. Contrabbandieri always be my favorite version from all of the boy squad, and it super clear that they learn a lot of thing from martino's problem in season 2. They notice elia is down? They immediately ask him why. They notice that luca is uncomfortable? They immediately say sorry.

And not only the dynamics within contrabbandieri, but also the dynamics between the whole group. Elia x fede bonding, elia x le matte heart-to-heart moment, elia x fillipo roommate bonding, elia x niccoló moment we've never thought about before, le matte's internal friendship, the fact that they also never forget to include rose squad everytime they having a party.

And!!!! we even get the contrabbandieri x villa boy moment that we've been waiting since season 1 (the fact that netflix once again bringing chicco rodi and mention rocco martucci because we obsessed with them is so funny lmao). I also surprisingly love viola and all of her friend. I love how similar they're to le matte in season 1, asia definitely stood out to me.

AND ONE THING THAT I'M SOOOOO GRATEFUL FOR is how sana mention that malik would convert back to Islam, and it's not for her, but because he find a great imam and finally believing in Allah again. I LOVE THIS MOMENT SO MUCH!!! We never got sana x practising muslim in any other version, so this moment got me in tears 😭

ALSO! The whole spera thing is a really massive plot twist. Butttt, I kinda like it. It show us that sometimes the person that you supposedly trust the most (he is a teacher + counselor, he is supposed to be one of the people that you should trust the most) could be a horrible person, a pedophile.

The final scene when le matte closing their radio is also an emotional thing for me, it kinda look like they saying goodbye and passing the torch to the next gen, I mean it's fine by me if they decide to have a next season with a next gen, but it just don't feel the same......

The only 'meh' thing I found in this season is the car crash. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE HECK all of the remakes seems super obsessed with car crash?! 😭 It didn't give any depth to the story itself. And also the moment in the finale when elia suddenly ready to have sex with viola? Right after he talk about it to the new school counselor. It just feel too rushed out.....

ANYWAY, I honestly love this season. The friendship is amazing, the storyline is good, the cinematography is top notch, i also love the effort of bringing almost all of the characters from season 1 - 4 (It would be perfect if we could see ele and incantava moment for the last time though), and the acting!!!! especially from francesco is super good, he definitely one of the best actor in skamverse. This season feels just like any other season of skam italia, and I honestly need to see more of them, maybe please give us another season netflix? 🤞

I think the outcome of mailin's season will be this -one way or another it will become known that they are mailin's nudes. Mailin and Zoe, maybe others too, will have a minor fall out over it. This is where the "hell week" during this hellish season will begin. I do not think the fall out between malin and Zoe will turn the audience against either of them. The benefit of druck doing a bare bones story is that it is not complicated at all. storyline. Everybody knows the only guilty culprit is Ben. Ben is also extremely disposable to the story and that lack of developmemt assurance that his only purpose is to be the villain that gets taken down. Druck has writing is trash. It's an embarassment that it is affiliated with skam.

I have seen some people comment negatively about Mailin already because she’s “letting” Zoe take the heat for this. So, no, I don’t think everyone understands the impact of this storyline, which is why I made a post about it. The fallout is already occurring with Mailin v. Zoe—and of course, even as a person who doesn’t like Mailin, at least the s7-s8 version of her, I can see how the writers have weaponized the topics of feminism & activism against her. She’s a caricature at this point for the network to poke fun at these very real issues. So, given that backlash from this morning, we can see how viewers clearly DON’T see Ben as the only guilty party here. While I also want to see Mailin punished for what she did to those books, I don’t want to see her used to prop up a misogynistic and victim-blaming narrative. Same goes for Zoe, a character I adore.

As for your last few sentiments, anon, I would have to disagree. Seasons 1-6 of Druck did a lot for the Skamverse as a whole. David was the first transgender character ever introduced in this franchise. Mohammed was an incredibly interesting take on the Yousef character—a refugee who has lost his sense of faith. Druck sent their Vilde character to therapy, and her relationship with their Magnus was incredibly loving and consensual, rather than a “last resort” for Kiki or a stalker-type of situation on Carlos’s part. They handled mental health issues with the care and tenderness they deserve through Nora’s season, and Fatou’s season was also revolutionary in how it put an out, proud Black lesbian at the center of a story & spoke about performative activism, fetishization of both LGBTQ+ and Asian people, and learning disabilities. While there are certainly things that can be criticized about this show, I don’t want to shit on everything people have tried to do within this show. Even season 7, though I have my issues with it, put a non-binary person at center stage. So, no, I don’t see it as an embarrassment that is associated with SKAM, I see it as a show that has lost its way under the hands of a conservative network, and a tone-deaf production company and writing team. Even though I dislike season 7 & 8, I could never discredit the work in the past that has done so much to showcase different types of backgrounds, communities, and people.

love these asks there’s so much here. ik what you mean about expecting better. eskam4 isn’t the worst season ever imo but it’s my least fave bc of the hopes & expectations i had going into it, given how much transformative effort they’d put into 1-3. ardi was saying recently about how at a certain point with these seasons, you’re stubborn about it ending one way (mayla endgame in s9, the kasim/amira/dani/lucas plot being different, ava/isi being addressed properly) not just for your own pride, but for the creators' sakes that they won't write something that embarrassingly bad.

re: anais, mailin & queerness - i’m the opposite where i don’t think anais is coded at all, i think the Heart Eyes™️ clip was just s10 set up eg: showing her being kind, establishing a link with maya. other than that there is nothing to suggest anais is queer imo and it’s so so so obvious when her stans use biphobia to dodge criticism like “you can’t call her straight just bc she kisses hugo in the finale, bi people exist!” etc. headcanon and stan whatever but don’t pretend anais being an attractive white girl doesn’t play a large role in the latter (bc it can’t be her ample screentime and riveting personal growth storyline that attracts you lol), and that the former isn’t all her “queerness” is rn lmao; you’re basically saying it’s fine that for the second time in the new gen they have picked a rich, cis white girl with a history of bullying and classism and transphobia over a trans man or a man of color bc she might be bi. (and if she is: who cares after how they already treated their actual bi character + their asian lesbian main? why not write max or redouane as bi, given there’s no current mlm characters?)

as for mailin…i think there’s things in s5 & 6 that could be read as hints of her being aromantic and/or asexual (but not gay/bi tbh), but it’s not definitive, like it could just as much be she’s inexperienced. i wouldn’t be surprised if ace!mailin was jünglinge’s plan given how careful they were about setting up other plots up from 5 > 6, though i honestly don’t think they were going to give mailin a season. regardless it’s not confirmed and like anais, even if it is, this is a really good post about whiteness, racism & queerness in fandom, and i can’t find it rn but i know there’s a post about who gets to even be seen as worthy of queer headcanons in the skamverse too (black characters almost never, white characters almost always), which plays a part in the queer mailin stuff. (also re: mailin dating a guy…as soon as that writer said zoefinn needed to break up for a s8 plot, i thought they’d reveal finn was ace too and pair him with mailin 🥴)

anyways would you be surprised to learn that there’s actually anais stans who hate mailin and mailin stans who hate anais and both think s8/s10 should’ve had different mains and both feel superior to each other? 😭

Heya!! I’m actually not in a wtfock discord server. If there ever was one, which I’m sure there was, I don’t know about it. I’m currently in a skamverse creators server, which covers all the og and remakes, and the Skam Big Bang server, which is only open to bang participants.

The first one fluctuates with activity. Since there’s overlap with the bang, the server is less active when the bang server is open, but when it’s closed, it can be very active. And not everyone participates in the bang, so ppl still post in there regularly. And about interacting, plenty of ppl join and never post afterwards. Some don’t even introduce themselves. It kind of depends. It’s a much smaller server than some others I’ve heard about. I can always give you more info about it if you dm me, but sadly I have nothing wtfock specific. I wasn’t actively engaged in fandom when all that probably happened, and by the time I felt comfortable enough to do so, everyone was already settled in places. Maybe someone else knows something. The last few days I spend a lot of time thinking about the season. I've come to the conclusion that I still like it. Its probably one of my lower ranked Druck seasons for me but there are worse skamverse seasons out there. But I also realized that with just a few changes they could have made the season so much better. So after the cut I wrote down my thoughts about this season.

First of all like so many people already pointed out they shouldn't have introduced two new characters. For Lou the 'quirky' friend aspect could have been Zoe and the gnc aspect (which in the end was almost ignored) could have been shown through the youth center. For Sascha the 'loyal best friend' aspect could have been Kieu My (who is probably also close to Ava after a year of dating Fatou). And I am still not convinced that a love interest was necessary this season. I don't want to bring people against me, I just think depending on the focus they could have get rid of at least one or maybe both new characters.

Secondly, they should have never made Ava and Isi childhood friends. It's already bad enough that the bully got a season before the victim but without them being former best friends and with more focus on the apology they could have maybe gotten to the point at which Constantpain and Isi are right now. Friendly around each other at parties.

Then focus more on the toxic friendship aspect without using Lou as a vessel. Now the Construction/Isi fallout is more about jealousy than about the toxicity.

Additionally the writer should have had more confidence in their writing and the characters. All characters were already fleshed out and loved from the previous seasons. The ground work for all storylines was layed. Give us a bit more pov and don't be afraid to show us the main alone. People are speculating that Isi doesn't like to be alone and therefore that never happened. But after 10 weeks we shouldn't have to speculate about these things. I get that writing scenes alone is hard. You can't rely on dialogue or put music over people hanging out. But that's where the characters usually develop most.

Last but not least focus more on the gender storyline. I've seen a lot of people arguing that it's not realistic to figure it all out in 10 weeks. And I think that's true but Druck is still fiction. And from what we have seen the last two seasons it's nothing completely new to Isi. I am still unsure why it had to be a coming out story but even that deserved more focus and time. They threw in the youth center, they could have used it more. Let Isi meet other queer people and learn about queer culture.

With these fixes it probably still wouldn't have been the best season ever and not what we are used from Druck but maybe a good one.

i was thinking you know, and maybe the fact that we know virtually nothing about ismail besides some superficial stuff is purposeful. they don’t really seem to know who they are/who they want to be besides being constantin’s shadow. their persona is unreliable and completely different based on the company they keep. if that’s the case, cool but it feels so weird in the context of the skamverse where are meant to know our mains. we are meant to love and root for them, even the ones that might have fucked up a little like isak or a lot like tiff. so i am a bit confused but let’s see how it goes.

Hello, someone planted the seed in my head that if there is a planned s8, Ava is unlikely to be the main bc she is too overexposed. I never even considered this but looking back over the seasons, I guess maybe is the Kiki of this generation in terms of screen time. What do you think?

hi, Anon! why are you now planting these negative seeds my head?! 🙈 jk jk! given the new team, i have zero confidence that the s8 main will be ava, but there are so many reasons why she should be! i'm going to link this great thread between @sotorubio and @norwaydumpsterfireremakes that sums up many of my thoughts.

listen, first and foremost, i am a sana fan and when i think about the skamverse as a whole, i just can't imagine a complete skam series without sana as one of the mains. it just doesn't work in my head. and i have many of the same thoughts about ava. yes, ideally, vilde would have gotten her own season too, but do i think mailin deserves a season before ava? heck no! and in terms of overexposed, was anyone as overexposed as noora? and yet, she got her own season and pretty much most of sana's too! 😬 so i don't think that should rule ava out. on the contrary, ava has so much throughlines for all the previous seasons that it would be a fitting way to close the chapter on this new gen.

jen has already called out the black best friend trope that ava has been squarely pushed into. and the fact that actors that don’t have conventional body types are less likely to be mains. but let's also talk about colorism and the trend to highlight lighter skinned actors and actresses and push darker skinned actors to supporting status only. this is not meant as criticism at all of one of my fav seasons (fatou's), but it's just an interesting mirror into fandom reaction when kieu my says she wants someone like zendaya (read: fatou). and zendaya has famously said:

“As a Black woman, as a light-skinned Black woman, it’s important that I’m using my privilege, my platform to show you how much beauty there is in the African-American community. I am Hollywood’s, I guess you could say, acceptable version of a Black girl and that has to change.”

anyway, just leaving that to marinate in your brain. and of course, we need more racial diversity in the german film industry.

and finally, i'm not saying that if ava is given s8 that it will necessarily be good (cough *these writers* cough. and hey, if i ever wanted to watch an interesting main's season be overshadowed and re-centered on a white love interest, i'll just re-watch bilal's season of skam france.) but ava deserves her shot at glory! and i personally will be even more disappointed than i currently am if that doesn’t happen.

Cuz i feel like Deborah is a certified shit writer and I don’t trust her to make maya’s arc make sense (hence endgame) and it just isn’t looking likely. Maybe idk they’ll do s10 endgame so they can keep ppl watching this dying little French web series

"do you genuinely believe they're endgame or are you just super committed to the bit" is actually a super valid question dadjsakasd. and the answer is both; i genuinely believe they'll be (rushed as hell) s9 endgame AND also that there's no point in me throwing in the towel now at this point, even with [waves at screen] everything going on. like there's only an episode left and this’ll be the last skamverse season i watch live, so why not clown to the very end?

deborah is definitely um. very interesting. i have manyyyyy thoughts on her + shirley + the network + all three’s aim for the show and how that effects how topics are chosen and approached, but that’s another essay for another time lol. i will say that i went into this season knowing i’d inevitably be disappointed and psychologically tortured, which was a risk i was willing to take because of how much i love maya lol. and given that 8x10 has jolal still arguing mid-week before a final clip endgame, i figured it was likely s9 would be the same, so as much as i also don’t trust the writers to pull off something satisfying, i am an endgame truther for a reason, and literally everything imo points to that being the logical conclusion this season, as rushed as it will probably be.

#i also wouldn't put it past them to do a s10 endgame to get people to watch s10 but #it's not like this is a normal show where a season ends with a cliffhanger to get people interested in the next season and try #and secure a renewal. like s10 is already filmed edited ready to go #so the biggest objective with getting people to watch s10 would be to secure s11/12 i guess? #but those would flop anyways since la mif are graduating in s10 #and nobody cares about the new new gen lmao #ask #anon #french posting
