Kinger
Imagine lost your partners TWICE. Lolololol loser/J
Everything seems to occur in slow motion from Kinger's point of view, a heart he once had is somehow beating against his body. He prays to any god on this earth, be it real or not, or even Caine maybe, that this nightmare isn't happening again to him. Please, everyone, but not you.
Kinger tries to do everything so his lover don't reach the great peak of their insanity, even though he's not very good at it, knowing his personality. But trust me when I said, he tried. Who cares if he will get all glitched for touching your form, he needs you.
He never thought he would live another nightmare inside a nightmare. And in seconds that felt like painful hours to Kinger, here "you" are, a noisy form covered in eyes that flash in different colors. Your skin (if we can call it skin) moves abruptly as if it were a bag full of enraged cats. And, god, how he wished it was him instead.
Things are resolved by the talking human jaw, and yet the silence in Kinger's little pillow fort is no longer comforting as it once was. Silence now makes the small chess piece itch in agony. Silence that could be enjoyed with your presence, with holding your hand or dancing with you, and chat about random stuff he and you knows. The feeling of missing someone is familiar to him, and yet, it hits him in ways that his years in this circus haven't hit him.
Caine
While Kinger tries to do everything, Caine actually does anything to try saving your corrupted mind, and the lack of power in this situation leaves the digital being in panic. A simple snap of the fingers is not enough, and this information makes him tremble in ways he never thought he would tremble before for a simple human.
You aren't just any character, you are his favorite, the lil' buddy he spoils every hour and that always push a giggle from him. You were his very own star. The show could continue the same without you, Caine was sure of it, but could he? Without a character as entertaining as you in action?
"Of course I can fix them, I am Caine!" It's a phrase that was repeated several times in the presenter's programming, But with every grunt coming from the thing that once was you, it's just a reminder to Caine that he did a horrible job trying to take care of you. There were other characters that were abstracted of course, but... You were special to him. His favorite star. His star.
Caine even feels hesitant to put you in the hole of other characters who were abstract before. He preferred to keep you in a cage away from other people's contact, with no one hurting you and no one hurting you.
He knows, he knows the painful truth that you cannot be considered a sapient being, but even though you are a trace of what you once were, Caine doesn't have the courage to lose you forever.
With the other characters, Caine will act normally, with his loud and lively personality. Only if they analyze Caine close enough, the characters would notice something wrong with him.
And then, sometimes, he just stares at you in the cage. Caine ponders if he should admit the lost of his favorite star, it would be easier, but the pride in his chest screams that there must be some way that he could actually save you from...this.
Ragatha
Somehow, the scene is all silent for her. Ragatha stares at you as if the impossible itself is happening in front of her.
Ragatha holds your hands about to disappear, she caressed what was left from your shoulders, she hurriedly whispers words that would normally calm you down, but nothing can save you from the fate of your sanity, just leaving her with the pain of being glitched.
Of course, she had her other friends like Pomni, but lost you?!
Ragatha thinks she saw everything during her new experience in the digital circus, but something common like losing someone so important was the end of the line for her. You were her darling, her sunshine and her little everything even.
Everything she did sounded slightly more boring and boring without your presence, and Ragatha could do nothing about it. She continues (at least tries) to remain strong after that, still trying to complete the little adventures that Caine gives to the participants. But Ragatha's slow pace and lack of smiles was very noticeable.
The weight on Ragatha's chest is too much, losing someone so sweet and perfect for her in such a horrible way is too much. And the worst part is that Ragatha believes that she could have done something to save you, she could have been with you more often so that your mind didn't fall apart like this. But now, she can do nothing but mourn.

Hi! How are you doing? Sorry to bother you, but i dont know many scottish people and idk who to talk to about this book I found on audible. It's called Imogène, by french author Charles Exbrayat. Do you know him /the book? I've started reading it but I had to pause because, while being sold as a "humorous spy story" I find the protagonist, a "very proudly scottish" woman, to be... an offensive caricature? Like she acts like a fool, honestly. This book contains some interesting points about sexism (it was published in 1959), and ridiculous british habits (such as employees forced to give money for princess anna's birthday or being socially scorned). I'm sure the shared dislike / distrust the protagonist and her british colleagues feel are (were?) realistic. But she is so extra, and the story keeps telling how lonely she is, even after working 20 years in london. She has No friends, most acquitances dont talk to her for various motivations, her bosses hates her ... idk I feel this book is actually mocking scottish people? Or scottish women??? I was SO there for a "strong woman protagonist who gives cutting remarks to her boss or peers", but this looks wrong. Idk. I didnt know whom ask for inputs. Maybe i'm reading too much into it. Feel free to ignore this mega rant. Have a good day!
I think cultural and historical context and time of publication-- which was almost 70 years ago --are important factors to take into consideration when we look at fiction through our current expectations.
I can’t speak to the book as I’ve never read it, but speaking as a Scots woman who worked for an English publishing house for a while, being made to feel alienated by my boss and others due to being Scottish was unfortunately still something going on in 2011.
I’d get lots of “Oh but you sound so eloquent” remarks regarding my thinned-out accent (something I did on purpose to avoid being told to “speak properly” which was also something I heard a lot in school if I ever used my native Scots language instead of “Queen’s English.”) and one time my boss referred to me as “their civilized Scot” to an American author, whose Scottish romance book I was supposed to be fixing the dialogue on.
The phrasing was along the lines of, “Don’t worry, you’ll be able to understand her. Joy is our civilized Scot.”
The author laughed and made another derogatory comment about how they just loved Scottish accents even if it was unintelligible a lot of the time. I kept my mouth shut because I didn't want to lose my first career job.
I kept my mouth shut a lot in that job.
In that regard I could very well empathize with the character being lonely and not engaging with anyone, even after 20 years.
The proud Scottish woman can be a bit of a caricature, but that doesn't necessarily mean it is intended as mocking.
Again, cultural/historical context matters.
I wasn’t alive in 1959, but I know there was a lot of Scottish media about the time that leaned into the stubbornness and pride of Scots women both for humor and to make societal commentary on the fact that women were strong and more independent than they’d ever been following two world two and a lot of men weren’t happy about it and wanted them to go back into their boxes. As a result the mouthy, proud Scots woman became a mockable caricature that turned women into shrill, over proud scolds.
Get back in your box or we’ll make fun of you, basically.
So is this book being mocking, or is it employing popular tropes of the time, knowing that audience will understand what it means and that the female protagonist is being subversive despite what others expect from her?
I can’t say. Again, haven’t read it. It could be utter dogshit and making total fun of my culture. But I do think when looking at older media we need to put our thinking caps on and think, “How would the audience of the time, 1959, have viewed and engaged with this?”
Expecting a “strong female protagonist” as we know it from media today isn’t going to work with media that’s almost 70 years old.
Hell, the “strong woman protagonist” wasn’t even something any piece of media could agree on when I was growing up in the 90s.
Times change. Literary tropes and preferences change. It helps to keep that in mind.

Oooh Val's uses his coat wings to hide reader away whenever he gets jealous because someone looked at you.
Do you think he would do that to like some of his workers to make the reader jealous?
GOD this immediately makes me think of him doing something EVEN WORSE ACTUALLY
To make him a little more unhinged and sadistic here, imagine a sadistic yan Valentino who will literally bully you to fucking tears and hurt your feelings on purpose because it 'proves you care about him'.
You and him have an actually sweet mutually respectful moment and he says something specific to you... calls you a new nickname or gives you a really specific compliment, and, it also just really makes you all warm and fuzzy. Or there's a specific way he likes to hold you or nonsexually touch you.
Then you "cross him", you two are arguing, there's several days of you basically all but completely ignoring him, and Val's suddenly making sure to deliberately do that same action or pet name or phrase to someone else RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU and I'm talking you're like, IMMEDIATELY SNAPPING YOUR HEAD IN HIS DIRECTION, and he's already fucking looking at you with this shit eating grin to look at your offended, upset expression
Like sorry can you even fucking imagine he tells you something that makes you feel really special in private and he KNOWS THAT and he compliments someone else the exact same way and you're looking at him literally IN TEARS and he's ENJOYING THAT HE'S MAKING YOU CRY
Just.... setting the scene.... you and him have been drinking, smoking, doing your drugs of choice, whatever, and... it's late at night... you guys are completely alone... and you're just... talking. Talking about your lives, about being in Hell, about experiences you've had, and then Valentino just kinda pokes your arm all coyly smirking/flirting like "It's weird but I feel like I can talk to you like we've known each other forever, like i actually care what you have to say and shit"
And then later on he gets pissed off at you (and it's something stupid like he gets jealous of you talking/bonding with another person) and he says that to some bitch that he like BARELY KNOWS, I would be GASPING CRYING WANTING TO THROW THINGS AT HIM like he could have you sitting there borderline suicidal and he's GRINING WITH GLEE, internally cheering "awwww they DO care about me 🥰 they care what i think about them and they're upset cause they think i dont like them 🥰" like some genuinely evil shit
Like lmao I've talked about "what if Reader became the fourth Vee" but I haven't mentioned "what if when Vox goes to calm down Valentino he also has to go to YOUR tower and comfort YOU because the reason you're both upset is YOU WERE ARGUING" (and maybe Vox takes your side more often because, you're his baby duh and you're newer and you probably have a better head on your shoulders than Val)
Vox is going upstairs, finding Velvette, "so, what kind of mess do I need to help clean up today?"
"The two of them started going at it right inside of my studio! Valentino said some NONSENSE to one of my models and then Vegas went BERSERK! Tore that unlucky bitch to pieces and then launched right at that lush, RIPS OUT a patch of his hair, then HE goes into A RAGE, they were both drunk and THROWING THINGS AT EACH OTHER--"
Like just the mental image of Vox having this dichotomy of, dealing with Valentino having his drunken rages where he wants to resort straight to violence, he's screaming, throwing things, and then Vox goes to YOUR section of the place and you're opposite end of the spectrum, crying, I mean ALSO angry as fuck but in a "Val makes me feel worthless I hate him I hate everyone" kind of way. Vox finds Valentino drinking and wanting to hurt other people and lashing out at his employees and breaking shit, and then he finds you like facedown on a couch in a cloud of smoke and booze, crying about what a pathetic worm you are, why do they even keep you here, you don't belong here, Vox probably hates you too- WHICH HE IMMEDIATELY CORRECTS YOU ON BTW
Vox is out here having to baby and infantilize and SCOLD Valentino to talk him down to a normal level and then to you he's like GENUINELY like "nooooo oh my gosh are you kidding, dont say THAT, you're so cool though 🥺 Val said WHAT, noooOoooo, that's fucked up, I'm sorry, I'll talk to him. You wanna eat cereal and watch anime? I developed a new gacha game for you to play, you wanna play while i watch?" like forreal the favorite is so obvious fkcnckcnfb which is also why it hurts extra hard when VOX loses his cool with YOU because who are you gonna run to, Val or Velvette? Oh you mean the catty narcissistic pimp or the even cattier bully of an influencer? I'd sooner double die.

Bdubs' speech patterns & quirks
i made a post a while back about Bdubs' typing habits and ya know what. ill be a little stupid obsessed and unhinged again and do this one. might be useful for fics.
been watching this man from day one and im trying to throw together everything i can in my head. he really hasnt changed that much if we arent considering a shift of humor and energy-- but i will regard it at certain points for clarity of how his speech is handled.
General speech pattern
Through time Bdubs has gained more energy in his voice, and more confidence in how he speaks as a person presenting in his videos. But he still has his quirks, quirks that have remained forever.
biggest one. There is a big habit of stuttering in some sense. Either on the same words with the intended phrase:
Example: "You-- you don't- you don't understand!"
or a phrase that is altered during the stutter:
Example: "Yeah but-- you-- I don't think you get it..."
They aren't the stutters people default to in most cases (no "y-yes" "i th-thought.." etc-- in *some* cases you can throw this in but i suggest the bigger ones and never make it too frequent).
Theyre long and very obviously, and make him take longer to get his words out. sometimes it cuts his train of thought and he stops his sentences, maybe even starts over entirely.
in addition to that, bdubs also cuts words in a way i think most people will- goin', gonna, thinkin' etc. however at times he will enunciate the whole word for effect (plays into his "exaggeration" described below)
With his awkward pacing and stumbling, there are times where he fumbles and might say something in a "weird" way. sometimes, it becomes purposeful! he'll keep doing it when its funny, but you can tell its more of a slip than on purpose at first. there are far too many examples of this, but its obvious that he picked up the funny way of saying 'hermitcraft' on purpose at a certain point, for example. this may be hard to get across in writing however and its not as important.
bdubs loves to exaggerate. personality wise, hes like this obviously. and it plays into how he talks. boisterous is the best word. dont be afraid to go hard on the exclamation points or question marks! "!!" and "??" may describe what you want when you need to imply more of his noise.
Exclamations, regarding swearing
Bdubs doesnt swear anymore, but its worth addressing it, in context to what... replaces it, in a sense. or if youre writing something based in the years when he did swear.
Lets get one thing straight. bdubs does not say fuck. like, even back when he swore. there may have been some very light instances of words slipping (the old video where he completely bleeped out his words may have likely had that) but it is not how he spoke on the regular.
bdubs' most used 'bad' words were "damn", not as often "ass". he used a lot of 'safe' words-- shoot, crap (crapper, directed at someone/thing), frick (fricker, directed at someone/thing), dang ('dang man'), freaking (this is exclaimed very strong when it comes up, as if he was saying "fucking". comment phrase "very freaking funny!")....
these are the most frequent choices. id say bdubs has the capability of more swears, but it would be a last resort/under extreme duress.
Other notable phrases
Some of these fall under 'exclamations' at times, but i wanted to address the phrases he says in response to things, one subject is what people like him say in place of things like "oh god". you can see this in some hermits too, but bdubs does not say "oh (my) god". there is no exclamation of "god" when he needs to say something like this.
some are more or less frequent in the overall timeline, but you will likely hear...
"judas priest!" "oh goodness!" "oh jeez/jeezer!" if there is any phrase regarding god its a sorta "dont use the lord's name in vain" situation. none of the "oh god" stuff.
in terms of other frequent phrases,
"Trying my heart out/off" pops up a lot, and it means that he is trying hard at something whilst also saying he is 'putting his whole heart into it'.
Older/less frequent these days:
the good ol 'pet names'. it is/was never a super frequent thing (that bdubs/etho ooge video was surprisingly frequent...) "sweetheart" is most likely, "baby" but not always in a 'pet name' way, just a casual word to throw out at nothing. might get a "darlin'" in there too. the instance of calling someone specific those things is not super common, but still important to note.
a final notable one is "boy", directed at others in a more like. jokingly stern way. "What are you doin' boy?" a direct aim at a person, perhaps in a (joking) accusatory way at times? (wanted to comment there was an early ooge instance where etho picked it up as well lol). and imo i saw this way more in the early days, less so now.
Conclusion
bdubs has a variety of expressions in his speech. generally very relaxed and sometimes even careless, hes not tryin to focus too hard on every word he speaks. which is only natural! imo i think his personality is what affects this more than anything. hes silly, extroverted, and acts first.
his 'loudness' and stutter is important and it can be hard to express through words. outside of the way you describe the way he tackled talking in fics, seriously dont be afraid to double those punctuation marks imo. definitely dont be afraid of those big 'stutters'!! its probably the most defining part of his voice imo. i hope this is useful and feel free to add on or ask about it!

i really cant remember what i said in that conversation so i cant tell you if i said "i think proshipping is fine if its in private", although it certainly doesnt sound like the way id phrase it. i probably said that i dont think that stuff is harming people if its in private, which truth be told i did believe at the time. my views on that have changed over time but i will admit i probably said that i didn tthink it was a big deal or somehting liek that. i am not a proshipper

this is another thing where yeah, i did do it. you can see it clearly through my handwriting and style. im not going to try to tell you i didnt. what i will say is that it was late april-early may last year. which like, yeah. not an excuse for drawing that. but i didnt think that would get out because i sent it to you in a private folder. i would not do this now. i do not think it is ok.
3. the fnf porn
yeah those are adults. 19 in the games canon, pico is 20 maybe? semantics. but i dont blame you for being confused. im realizing most of this post is just admitting i was wrong because no i did not draw those two looking old enough no. i thinkt hat one was drawn when i was 13. it was jsut kind of how i drew them but absolutley no yoreu right they look like kids.
if there were other claims, i didnt see them, at least specifically about my images.
4. the "ghoting you for 2 months"
again yeah. im not going to deny i did that. i think something about our relationship confused me and i handled it extremely immaturely. i didnt know how to talk to you but probably i felt weird or bad after sending you all that, which is no fault of yours.
most of this post is admitting i was wrong and you were technically right bout what you said about me. but god man, i want you to listen to me for a second. i was 14 and stupid and i didnt think doing that meant anything. i know it was a mistake that i did it but i sent it to you in a folder where i thought it would be ok to share those things. i think we may have been talking about it? i assumed it was ok at the time based on your reaction. its not your fault that you didnt express discomfort at the time, im not blaming you. i understand its hard, but i couldnt read you. i would not have done somehting like that today. i dont really know what to say about all of this so this is really all i can say at the time. if theres any more specific claims, ive only seen the post through screenshots so. i dont think i can see them in full.

A Guide to playing GnR Mermaids - shit post
(Explaining why we do this so some of you dont look at me weirdly:
My friend and I haven’t seen eachother in years, and before I went away I was also obsessed with gnr and we did this, so it’s really just bringing back nostalgia)
- in the pool(ofc) - 2 people edition
- my storyline change it however you please

Preparation:
- figure out your love interests
- 2 each
- you will be playing each-others love interests
- the member left is the clinically insane one that will make plot points ( will be in-love with both of you to make things interesting)
- aswell as make a phrase that they never stop saying
-( we chose Axl for this one and not sharing our secret phrase 🤫)
- figure out how you’re going to style your hair to show different characters
(if you dont got hair improvise)
-( for this, an example we did:
Axl: use hair as mustache
Slash: flip hair up underwater so you look like George Washington
Duff: hair up at the back, like using a claw clip.
Izzy: hair down to the side like a braid
Steven: hair fully to the side like an emo style )
- next choose your colour tails obv
- next chose your powers, including the guys
-( For this we did:
Axl: Fire
Slash: Nature
Duff: Air
Izzy: Darkness
Steven: Light ) (we actually forgot we did this part)
- lastly choose your spawning point, is it a specific oceanic place in real life, or just a simple lagoon, ect.
-( we chose Cape Town)
Chapters will now be very specific to our story line
Chapter 1:
- You spawn in
- Go to a bar/ club ect.
- make up an excuse to separate
- Whoever’s love interest is Slash, the other person has to now be in character.
- Slash comes to flirt with said person
- add details, like why he’s here, and that he’s in a band ect.
- he gives you his (shellphone) number
- friend comes back, chat about it
- other friend goes to do something
- clinically insane character comes along - say the most outrageous shit - doesnt matter how much you retaliate he keeps coming back
- tries to get your number (you can choose if you give it to him or force him to give to your so you never text him.)
- he leaves somehow
- friend comes back, talk about outrageous man, ect
- just keep rotating through meeting characters and setting up dates for when to meet up.
(- clinically insane bitch likes both of you so have fun with that as you will)
- when the insane one is in scene, maybe ask and point to one of your love interests asking for their numbers and he makes an excuse to why you shouldn’t do that
-(example:
Friend - “ That blonde one over there is in your band, can I have his number?”
Insane - “ uhh he’s actually gonna die tonight cus he got this infectious disease so don’t go near him.”) (sumthing to that extent)
- i don’t remember the rest just have fun and do whatever
- make the insane guy get arrested for funzies (optional)
Chapter 2:
- next day
- find out insane one has escaped jail ( optional ) (ALL ARRESTS ARE OPTIONAL THIS WAS SPECIFIC TO US)
- bump into different characters, all love interests asking to meet at the same time. At their crib
- (example: my interests were Izzy and Duff
- Izzy: “okay 3pm my place”
-*later*
- Duff: “Ive been looking for you, heres chocolate and flowers, wanna come to my place at 3?”
-someone: “thank you, but Izzy already asked me”
- izzy and duff live together
- “nah izzy wont mind.” )
- Insane one shows up running from the police
- him ready looking like he finna kill whoever gave the chocolates, flowers /ect.
- says sum deranged stuff
- (example:
“Insane: “you haven’t texted me yet *looks at you with my crazy eyes*
Someone: “uhh, my dog ate my phone but the cover with my credit card is still intact”
Insane: “oh okay, because I have you as my pfp.”
Someone: “huh?!
Insane: “Yeah it’s your perfect hair, no split end in sight.”
*later*
Someone: “oh my lord he has me as his pfp”
The other one: “ARENT THOSE YOUR BEDSHEETS IN THE BACKROUND???”

Insane: -to the other person- “I got your toe hairs as my wallpaper bbg” )
- add in more interactions
- we also added the crazy guy getting chased by the police and trying to take shelter in one of yours houses
- do your scheduled timings
- (example: - 3pm rolls around - my story
Someone: *knocks on door*
Duff: “Come in”
Someone: “Thank you, where’s Izzy?”
Duff: “Uh…in his room.”
Someone: “Oh okay”
- then pick a movie or something, (we chose Hamilton)
- do a house tour, his room has photos of you in but you didn’t see
Someone: “Izzy is supposed to be here, should we not go get him”
Duff: -makes excuses but you get him to take you to the room-
Duff: * unlocks door* * gets yelled at by Izzy* *Izzy drags him inside and runs out of his room locking the door*
Izzy: “Don’t worry about him, he’s like a baby, he needs a nap every few seconds”
- watch some of the movie
- make some moves
- ( we did that Izzy asked them to be his bae but you dont have to do that)
-( also they apparently fucked for 10 hours CUS MY FRIEND SAID *10 hours later* after they went to a room)
Someone: *opens the door for Duff*
Duff: *traumatised at the noises he’s heard*
- we made Duff Izzy and them a throuple
- but Izzy said to think about it and say the next morning. )
- after your adventures go home to your friend
- run into the house and start boarding the windows and doors with wooden planks because the insane one was chasing after you.
- call your baes to look after you cus the police can’t do their job
- he does get arrested tho (again)
*next day*
- insane one in prison calling one of you
- you thinking its your bae and saying some coupley stuff or whatever but make sure it’s directed at one of your interests
- * screaming, bombs, and destruction on the other line*
- “ HE ESCAPED AGAIN”
Chapter 3:

Chapter 3 and 4 are in my notes im just a bit to lazy to write it
Chapter 5 and up are not gonna be out for like maybe 2 years cus I wont see my friend again for that long

dont feel obligated to answer this at all; I'm sort of just musing but also really appreciate your thoughtfulness on here and wondered if you have any thoughts.
with "terminally online" often being used as a dismissal, would it serve us better to reframe complaints about the reactivity/bad faith (which at least in my spaces are what I notice get classified as terminally online) as conversations about how to improve online discourse? instead of dismissing it?
I do think there is a real difference in tone and approach in online conversations than in offline, and that online conversations can often lean towards taking others in bad faith because there are less consequences to doing so than in person. or seek to gain clout in a way that isnt as possible in casual offline conversations.
But I also recognize the importance of online spaces for disabled folks or just for people who maybe don't have the time to be engaged in physical spaces that discuss things like politics and activism. and its worth making our online spaces better for everyone.
I guess I just wonder what might be a way to approach the real problems present in online discourse spaces besides the dismissal that comes with insisting a take is just "terminally online" and leaving it at that.
Earlier (after you sent this ask) I reblogged another ask I had answered a while back regarding the phrase "terminally online" that might get into some of this!
Yeah, I definitely don't believe that there aren't any differences between online and physical spaces, or that we shouldn't talk about said differences--both the ones that may be inherent to at-a-distance communication, and the ones that may have more to do with how we think about online communication or how social media and other forms of at-a-distance communication are practically organised. But I will note that in-person groups are not immune to any of the criticisms that such a conversation might involve--people destroy popular movements by clout-chasing (i.e. viewing the accrual of power and influence as their primary goal--whether formal or informal influence depends on the structure of the organisation in question) or through interpersonal abuse, escalation of interpersonal conflict, ostracisation of people they think they can get away with ostracising (because they're trans women or Black or just weird or something and so people are more likely to view them as the aggressors of whatever situation).
So if what one wants to posit is that "online spaces" (which ones?) are more prone to bad-faith readings, immediate ostracisation or hostility, clout-chasing, &c. than "in-person spaces" (which ones?), I guess my questions are 1. how would you prove that? Is it a falsifiable statement / what are the conditions that we would have to meet to be able to claim that the statement had been proven in a way that wasn't just anecdotal? How do you divide "online" and "irl" spaces up in order to be able to compare them (what's the status of "online spaces" that arise out of in-person groups, e.g. workplace slack channels, club groupchats? Are large social media platforms considered to be in the same experimental group as these things, and if not, why not)? and 2. (more importantly) what's the use of making this statement? What does it allow us to say that we wouldn't be able to get at otherwise?
I'm not sure what the answer to 1. is, but the more I think about 2. I think the answer is that this type of statement isn't particularly useful. It's enough to say that online spaces are prone to misreadings or hostile readings in ways that may in part arise from the fact that they are at-a-distance, and in part from how they are practically organised (by which I mean, the possible behaviours on whatever social media site we're talking about). And now suddenly we're getting somewhere, because describing exactly what it is about this space that could lead to hostility is probably going to be useful in trying to counteract it. Off the top of my head:
The ability to reblog or retweet can push a take far outside of its intended context. Do I know anything about the other political viewpoints of the OP that would help me to contextualise what they're saying here? Does it seem like this post was written in response to a particular argument or event that isn't as immediate for me? What kinds of argument does it seem like the OP is seeing a lot of / what kinds of experience does it seem like they often have? Could this make their frame of reference different from mine?
I may be assuming that someone knows the etiquette on a given platform well enough to intuit that a reblog/quote retweet is considered more or less hostile than a reply/comment, whether screenshotting is considered a polite avoidance of conflict or a rude talking-behind-someone's-back, &c. &c. Should I be making that assumption?
I may be assuming that any given person is writing in their native language, and is otherwise pretty much aware of how their tone will come off to someone else reading their writing or to me in particular. But is that a fair assumption? How does the English-dominated nature of social media constrain the rules of engagement?
I tend to believe that someone who's come back with a false idea of my post's main argument is not even trying to understand what I'm saying. But is it fair to assume that everyone has a high degree of literacy?
A lot of different kinds of statement or argument (self-consciously political, solely personal, &c.) can co-exist on one website or on one person's blog without necessarily broadcasting their intended audience or scope (like, a political post or a personal post could "look" the same). What are the actual, immediate, material stakes of the conversation someone is trying to have? Am I wrongly assuming that someone else is attributing actual stakes to something that they intended as musing? How much does it matter if this person and I disagree about this? Does this disagreement prevent us from agreeing about other things?
If I do fundamentally disagree with someone about something I think is important, what action (of the range of actions the platform makes possible) should I take about it? What does it seem like the developers probably intended (e.g. unfollowing, blacklisting a post, blocking, reporting), and what informal or user-driven models do I have for what to do (the "call-out post" comes to mind)? What is the ideal end goal of each of these actions (to stop engaging with this person? to get my followers to stop engaging with them?), and what is the actual result of each of these actions likely to be? Which is to ask--am I writing a post about x user because I actually want them to be ostracised or whatever (by whom?), or because I believe it's just "what one does" when you encounter substantial disagreement? What has given me that model?

You are so right for this. Those two are not only my favorites, but they are probably my favorite ship (I don't know if I've made that clear in my writing, but I feel like there have at least been hints). We are on the same boat here (I apologize for the pun, but I'm sending it out into the world anyway). I am right there with you. They are precious individually and together. I generally am not a touchy/hugging person, so I wouldn't want to squeeze them, but I would make them a delicious bowl of soup, give them pats on the head, and tell them that they're both good boys.
Especially as a fellow SimBarb lover, you are welcome talk about your AU here! Also, in general, I love reading about how people view character relationships (romantic, platonic - in any form, really).
While I'm here, I would like to fuel the SimBarb love with a few thoughts of my own it won't be too much because I'm going to head to bed soon, so my brain is in wind down mode.
Okay, so I lied to myself about the "a few" and rambled for 10 bullet points, so more under the cut:
Canonically, Barbatos and Simeon just often find themselves on outings together. Barbatos phrases it like it's unintentional; it just happens; they just have accidental dates. Well, considering that Barbatos seems to always have good luck, maybe there's a reason he keeps finding himself on outings with Simeon. Wouldn't it be lucky if he happened to run into a certain handsome angel while he was out?
I think it took Simeon longer to realize he liked being around Barbatos than it took Barbatos to notice how much he enjoyed spending time with Simeon. Simeon probably used Luke as a kind of affection proxy for a long time. A lot of "Luke really likes Barbatos," and "Barbatos is so sweet to Luke. It really warms my heart." Really? Is it just Luke who likes Barbatos?
They probably pick up groceries a lot together, and they both like to menu plan as they browse the markets, so they end up taking ideas from each other. Sometimes they'll plan to cook the same dish on the same night. It makes them kind of giddy. Even though they don't share meals often, when they cook the same thing on the same night, it almost feels like they're getting to eat together.
Whenever Luke goes to Barbatos for cooking/baking lessons, Barbatos tries to ensure they have leftovers for Luke to take back to Simeon. Additionally, Barbatos is especially motivated to help the final product turn out good (outside of just wanting Luke to learn and succeed) because he knows it's a reflection of his own skills and he wants to impress Simeon.
Also, I could see Barbatos sending Luke back home with two bouquets of flowers (especially edible flowers and sometimes herbs) from his garden. One is for Luke, but the other one, Barbatos will casually suggest that Luke "give it to Simeon, if you'd like."
These two both love taking care of others. Can you imagine how often they just try to out-spoil the other? I think it would occasionally end up in arguments that are basically just "sit down, and let me take care of you for a change."
Barbatos would be the least comfortable being taken care of because he's a demon. Being doted on by an angel. That's weird, right? He feels incredibly unworthy.
These two could flirt back and forth so well.
Barbatos would get extremely flustered if Diavolo commented on how wonderful it is to see a respectable demon such as Barbatos and a regarded angel like Simeon getting along so well, and that it gives him hope for the future between the Devildom and the Celestial Realm.
This is kind of angsty, and I don't remember if Barbatos and Simeon actually met before the war, but I have this thought (maybe a future story idea if I decide to lean into ships or something) that while Diavolo was enamored with Lucifer, Barbatos took a liking to Simeon. Actually, it was initially just an interest in the angel whose cooking skills could almost compare with his own. Then he realized how similar they were and how well they would get along. I just imagine younger Barbatos thinking hoping that when the war came around, Simeon would fall with Lucifer. Selfishly, he wanted the opportunity to even just be around Simeon. When that didn't happen, Barbatos was silently crushed but he carried on. He held his excitement the entire time when he first heard that Simeon would be one of the exchange students, and he was even more delighted when Simeon treated him with kindness.

So fun things I've noticed while replaying Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations
- Franziska NEVER whips Miles. Several times over the course of the trial she prosecutes and the investigation, she NEVER hits Miles, only other people around him whenever she's upset with him. (Phoenix gets whipped when she's upset with Miles and he even asks why he's the one getting whipped)
- Miles blames himself for his (for lack of a better phrase) trauma response to earthquakes. When one happens, he passed out. He can't control it. But he still believes he could have stopped himself from passing out, somehow, even though that isn't true
- Maya and Phoenix gossip with each other. In one of the cases, during an investigation, Phoenix can talk to Gumshoe and show him a piece of evidence/profile that makes Gumshoe stutter out an excuse about how he definitely doesn't have a crush on Maggey Byrde. Phoenix's inner thoughts during this say, "Note to self: Gossip with Maya about this later!" I just think it's cute lol
- Miles has probably watched the Star Wars movies (specifically the prequels). In one instance, he says, "I detest talk of supernatural drivel. I suppose now you'll say she has midi-chlorians?" Nerd
- Godot is probably misogynistic (maybe this isn't a big discovery). During an instance when Godot and Franziska are talking to each other, he says, "Hey, Filly. Know your role, and shut your mouth. I can't stand women like you." Tbh this is kind of interesting though considering his previous relationship with Mia, always encouraging her to "show her claws" during trials
- After an earthquake, Phoenix's first concern is for Miles, even though the earthquake could cause the death of Maya (i have so many gay vids and screenshots of moments like this dont even get my started)

This wasn’t in your cards, but my cat just came to cuddle with me, so immediately I'm hearing, "cuddle with your cat!" Or spend time with any pets or animals you have. I have a feeling you might be stressed and could use the company and comfort. Now, on to the rest of your reading!
You may be defensive and/or closed off. You might also think all of this is bullshit and needed someone to acknowledge that thought in order to gain confirmation. That message is only for some of you. Anyways, you may also be in denial of something, likely your own emotions. You feel that if you let your guard down, you will get hurt. You think that pretending to be emotionless like this means that things can't and won't hurt you. But in doing so, you are only hurting yourself. You miss out on all the opportunities of making new friends, spending times with loved ones, and enjoying outings with other people. The hard truth is this, things will always hurt you. You cannot stop the world from being the world, you can't stop humans from being humans, and you can't stop yourself from experiencing inevitable things like death and reality and so much more. And that's ok. Life is meant to be lived, and you can't live life without getting a couple scratches and bruises along the way. Let yourself experience life! Let yourself open up a little more and live. You will be so thankful, so happy, that you decided to let yourself out of your shell, even just a little bit. One step at a time, not everything needs to happen at once, not everything needs to be rushed. Go at your own pace, but just remember to go. I also get the feeling that you are used to carrying other people's burdens. You take on their problems as your own, you wear their emotions like a cloak. I get the feeling that, despite being so harsh and/or closed off, you are a very empathetic person. My back started straining when I realized that and I think that empathy puts a lot of strain and pressure on you in many ways. In some ways, you strain yourself by taking on everyone else's problems. In other ways, it's simply because you feel so strongly. I'm going to suggest something I heard another tarot reader once say, swap your empathy with compassion. Empathy is taking on the emotions of others and feeling them as if they were your own. Compassion is understanding others emotions and being there for people, but not at your own expense, you don't take on their emotions, you simple see them. I think you may think of your empathy as a weakness in some ways, but it's not. Being empathetic is so important to you and to the world. Let yourself feel. The world needs more hearts like yours, hearts that care. Just don't let it burden you, don't take on too much. Set emotional boundaries. You don't need to be there for everyone and that's ok. And if the people around you can't understand that, then you need to spend a little less time with them as a whole. Now I'm not saying you need to cut people out(some of you might I'm sure, take what resonates), but you may need to distance yourself from people who are draining to much of you. Some of these people need room to grow and they can't do that with you coddling them. I don't mean to sound harsh, but taking on their emotions, being their major or only support system, not letting them stand up on their own, it only does more damage. These people may need help at times, sure, but they are also not your responsibility. They need to grow on their own and figure out how to heal themselves as well. Help them if you must, but remember to step away when it's important. Things need to change. Now I feel like our last message here is saying simply this; do these things and your life, your relationships, will thrive. You will have so many more and better opportunities and relationships. You contemplate too much in your mind and don't act, don't live. Go, live life. You will have such a great one. I promise.

Potential love may be in your future. A good unity you will trust. New relationships in general. For some of you, this will not be forever, but that's ok. Ren - He's like...some wealthy rich kid. I like to think he's an heir and supposed to inherit some company but he's never taken the thing seriously. He'll never talk about his family tho, mostly his dad, his mother left him and Ren doesn't remember her.
tbh I don't think anyone knows he's like rich lol. Maybe Asaka and Tetsu but he doesn't really act the type?? Maybe he throws money around...at cards mostly but man does not live that lavish lifestyle.
Probably gets cut off some funds when he's an adult but idk I can see him saving money or finding a way to have cash so he's p set doing...whatever it is he does as an adult (pre branch chief).
I joked once that he could probably get away with working anywhere and I kinda believe it?? Man says he works here and can play it off like nothing but only works one day and is never seen again...
Would randomly crash into his homies places in the middle of the night. You're sleeping? No problem. Ren is there, maybe grabbing something from the fridge before sleeping on the couch or the bed. It's impossible to Ren proof your home.
Asshole would 100% pick a random box from a cardshop and it has the most expensive Shadow Paladin card in it. Doesn't even need Psyqualia this just happens naturally.
Aichi - He's good with speaking other languages like...he knows the words/phrases/whatever to say but thinking isn't the same as speaking. So he usually trips over his words. Can translate very well just give him a sec so he doesn't mess up words.
100% a lil bookworm. Didn't have a lot of friends in his youth so he turned to books. That was like his escape fantasy along with thinking of Vanguard.
No matter how much more confident he is in his older years...he still struggles with public speaking. Please don't make him go up and talk to the crowd...he's so nervous...
Likes to send Emi and his mom gifts!! Little things from traveling. Would send Emi ocean/mermaid related things and I think in a note somewhere his mom plays Vanguard too (I think it was something to do with hot men?? let it be touken ranbu...) he'll send her things related to what she plays and just whatever she wants lol

Kazumi - Hates his family lmao. He's on bad terms with his father and is a little better with his mom but not really. The only good one in his fam was Kazuma (pleading emoji).
Knows how to conceal his true feelings p well?? He has to in the business world and around his parents. So he'll bottle up things a lot. His more childish side peeks through usually during Vanguard or when he's around people he knows he can relax with.
Wants to learn how to cook and kinda be on his own?? He doesn't want to rely on his family's wealth and probably only uses it for housing, away from the main house, but he wants to be able to live on his own and not follow the family name.
Has a lil...dragon collection. Maybe it's cuz of Shiranui but I like to think he collects little dragon trinkets. Please don't let him go off about his collection because he will. Also is v proud of it.
Mamoru - He doesn't make dad jokes, other people make dad jokes for him!! He takes care of Ryuzu and just kinda...adopted him?? Yeah the whole association is supposed to take care of him but legally he is Mamoru's kid.
He needs to take better care of himself. Probably eats fast food or whatever the dragon empire cafeteria has that's quick and can be found sleeping at his desk, especially during the heavier seasons. Tokoha usually helps him out but he's gotten a little better at it.
Probably would have been like...a teacher or something in that field if he wasn't doing Vanguard. That wouldn't be his go to or something he aspired at first but that's what he would have settled upon.
Somehow knows everyone. Could say hi to someone on the street and has seen/spoken to them before. I like to think he's kinda famous cuz of his status and all the stuff he does but like...a lot of locals know him too. Support the community!!
Overdress
Yuyu - Ends up going to the student council because of Raika lol. I don't think he'd go for any of the president or VP seats but would do something like secretary or treasurer.
Would go out of state for college!! He wants to be a pro Vanguard fighter but wants to get a degree for his fam. His sisters all have degrees so baby boy has to do it to!!
Probably genderfluid. tbh? Doesn't mind dressing up as feminine but doesn't quite like the frilly dresses his sisters pick out for him. I think he'd like more of the androgynous stuff.
He's not into max rarity for his decks. He pulls like 1 SP/FFR and is like aight cool. At most he'd would make his sideline bling but wouldn't go insane over it. Also he's a high schooler so he has no budget for this lskfjds

okay i truly think scotch argues with seraph in his head all the time. ALL the time. scotch largely ignores them, and vice versa, because he dislikes them and they know it. seraph is very conflict avoidant lol, and as long as hes not a "threat" they dont care to talk to him about their problems. he probably argues with atlas and jacob (his older brother) too, atlas about more stupid small stuff, and jacob about childhood and life stuff :p
im trying to think of more general groups he would argue with but i cant come up with anything BAHAH. hes not exactly conflict avoidant in the annoying libra way that seraph is, he more just ignores conflict for his friends’ (mostly atlas’) sake. idk if that makes sense LOL

hmmm.. smallest? i mean scotch strings eloise along for most of the time pre timeskip. its not a main focus but its definitely important in order to understand scotch as a whole. she and scotch go out for a while, and mid way through that he realizes hes GAY gay. lol. and obviously lying to her about that is pretty questionable after a while. especially since he and atlas have been 👉👌 like the whole time. but she kind of knows. well
something a little bigger would be him encouraging or otherwise turning a blind eye to all the weird stuff atlas is up to. he doesn't know what it's like to be a werewolf, he can't say anything, right? lol.... murder is okay if its a talking dog doing it. scotch enabler supreme. actually when seraph is introduced, he and atlas have a 'joke' (kind of starts being real) about luring seraph somewhere to kill them. obviously doesnt happen and gets abandoned. but i think its important to know about their dynamic LOL

atlas is a big fan of saying 'its fine' for all situations ever. family in mortal danger? its fine. completely splitting? its fine. arthritis excruciating? its fine. hes one of those people that dont like to deal with the fawning of others unless hes feeling real special. Ends up putting people in more danger a lot of the time. i think eloise is the only fan of communication in this friend group to be honest. i should have made her the main character
he tends to make promises he cant keep as well, but thats more general..

i have NO idea. i feel like atlas would be a music snob, so maybe his favorite 'super underground' bands. otherwise he'd probably never recommend raw human meat to another human (no matter how much scotch asks -__-).. (he would chicken out anyway)

um. so atlas hates working out. he especially hates running, you know, the thing that wolves are known for doing a lot of? unfortunately the lycanthropy came with a side effect of pretty bad arthritis, so that doesnt exactly encourage him. he DOES exercise, a lot since hes pretty much required for his ermm "side job", but he hates it 😸 besides the arthritis it’s mostly because I think it’s silly that he hates it. yay

hello, i had some maybe broad-but-vague stuff i wanted to ask to someone who knows more about ace stuff since i've been seeing a surge of related content about that topic lately, and i wondered if you might be someone i could ask? i know it's alot, and please ignore this if it makes you uncomfortable. im not trying to be hateful or anything, i just feel sort of ignorant about it all. ace stuff, specifically. until now, i always ignored people saying they were ace before, because i didnt get it and i just figured that i didnt need to get it to just mind my own business, but it seems so much more prevalent online now than it used to be, id like to understand. i dont mean to be crude, but in my mind it's like- not fucking people is the baseline. thats just how people are. like, the template of a human isn't sexual. starting point of humanity or something like that, and everything else is just extra, though as i type that i actually can see that that might be too flawed and general of an outlook, but that's the best way i can think to phrase my thoughts. so to put focus on that baseline, as an entire identity, always seemed extraneous to me? im really not sure if theres more to it that im missing to put it in some different context. i did wonder if it was to do with just like, reacting to societal expectations that everyone, idk, be sexual? or just the assumption that everyone would (or should) end up like that at some point in their life? and that's pretty fucked up, but i always just thought that was really weird of the people expecting that sort of thing, not of the people they criticized, and that if it were just a reaction that it wouldn't be considered an identity. and the same really goes for the romance stuff, in my mind. it just seems like such a non-problem to me. and that sounds alot harsher than i mean it to be, but i dont get it. its just the regular way to be, and everything else is extra, so all of the controversy is for what? it always came off as making a big deal out of nothing to me. personally, i've never felt any sort of realistic romantic or sexual attraction to another person before in my life, but (other than here) i don't go around talking about that. if the people around me went around talking about how they DID feel that stuff, i would think they were oversharing rather inappropriately. so i don't get that the difference is. it just people searching for other people who feel how they feel using "ace" as a label, a way to do that? a community thing? then why rally around that minuscule aspect of a person's being? or maybe it doesn't feel minuscule? i dont want to come off as belittling, so if theres a better way to refer to all this, please let me know. sorry for the wall of text and like i said, feel free to ignore this. i'm not trying to be an asshole and its not on you to field this sort of question, but i just want to understand. thank you for your time!

I'm honestly not sure what you mean by this. I don't believe there is a baseline template for humanity, we are too complex for that. But even if there were a baseline I would set it to what the majority of humanity experiences and I think it's safe to say that a large majority of people experience sexual and romantic attraction to others (the number that usually gets thrown around is 1% of the human population is asexual, but I do not believe this number is still up to date.) If asexuality were the norm then the asexual community would not have this many struggles with medical doctors (here, read this great article that just came out for some context).
That being said - you can view humanity this way if you want, I'm not going to say it's wrong. Just be aware that most people do not see it this way, and that many reactions people have when first learning about asexuality and aromanticism shows how much they view it as something unnatural, abnormal and something to be fixed.

Most people I know experience romantic and sexual attraction as a normal part of their life, and they talk about it a lot, which I don't necessarily consider to be oversharing. Relationships and crushes and heartbreak and sex are important topics for many people, to the point where I would claim that a considerable amount of time goes into writing songs and books and movies and other media about it. Most coming-of-age stories involve romance and sex as milestones, most "humanizing the monster" stories involve falling in love as a proof of humanity, most commercials use sex-appeal to make people buy shit. All of this is integrated into everyday life, so all of this can make aspec people feel alienated and othered, even before they find the aro/ace labels.
When I was a teenager people wouldn't stop talking about sex, it was a way to measure your worth, so I felt.. worth less than my peers. Now I'm an adult and the older I get the more being single and unmarried is seen as a personal failure.
All this is to say that in my experience sexual and romantic attraction are not quiet aspects of society. And, for the record, I don't talk about my orientation much with people outside of my close family, even when it makes things awfully awkward because my disinterests does not go unnoticed, and is very much seen as an oddity.

Why do you think any identity label exists? They are there to help us understand ourselves, to help us explain ourselves to others and to help us find others with similar experiences so we can feel less isolated. We live in a heteronormative society where everyone is assumed to perform sex and romance in a very strict and narrowly defined manner. People that fall out of that norm tend to struggle on many different, complex levels. Asexual and aromantic people are not exempt from these struggles. For some being ace and aro does not have a large impact on their lives and that's fine, for others it does have a large impact - that's what the community is for, and that's what the labels are for. For me personally, being aroace impacts a lot of my life. It influences my politics, my living situation, how I approach friendships, my decisions for my future.. it is not something trivial.

No, I do not believe that is the origin of the asexual and aromantic identity. It is certainly a source of aphobia and a much needed point of conversation, but asexuality and aromanticism would continue to exist in a society in which this were not a problem, the same way homosexuality will continue to exist when the world is no longer homophobic, and heterosexuality exists right now in a world that is not "heterophobic". I also want to gently add here that the belief that asexuality is a "reactionary" identity due to an oversexualized society is one I've almost exclusively seen in radical feminism circles, just something to keep in mind when following such train of thought.
Everyone is free to decide the degree to which experiencing little to no sexual/romantic attraction impacts their life and if they want to view it as something important or not. But to generalize and say that it doesn't matter on a societal scale rings false. I highly recommend just listening to more aromantic and asexual people's experiences in society to get a feeling of how it impacts our lives.

He will try to be very careful with you and treat you like glass because he is a literal WAR GOD and fears he will hurt you.
Saying if you freed him from the mask in some way and it's like say very far in the future in Wilds time he would be kinda confused on how you and everyone else speaks.
He was from years and years ago so the hylian written and spoken language would of changed alot. So the way he speaks would seem very formal and he would be confused on any hylian speech.
You would have to teach him any phrases or words he doesn't know because they were made after he was imprisoned in the mask.
He sometimes has to duck through door ways and will forget this if he is talking to you while you both go through because he tall as hell.
He doesn't hit the frame hard but you will hear a soft thunk.
He doesn't know how to express his emotions well so you most you will physically see is a small smile or frown. Maybe his eyebrows furrowing if he is annoyed or confused.
LOVES music. Doesn't matter the kind. He loves all the music in hyrule. Because it's made for a reason and most of it tells a story.
If someone gets something wrong about history he will correct them but say nothing more. Like only the bare minimum needed. It annoys many people.
He is a normally really calm and collected but if he gets into a fight you will be the only thing to get him to calm down.

You were on a little adventure just to head out and do some exploring on your own away from the others. Of course Fierce went with you. He didn't say why he did, he never does. He just followed you. The one time you asked he just said "To protect you." And nothing else about it.
You didn't mind that badly. You were dating him somehow. It was a bit ago when he asked you surprisingly. You guessed when a Deity wanted something it strived to obtain it. Lucky for you honestly. You crushed on him for awhile but he was too intimidating for you to ask directly.
While thinking you didn't noticed him walking up to beside you. You finally noticed him and jumped slightly. You can see a sliver of a smile appear. "Don't laugh at me." "I was not laughing." You glare although with no malice behind it.
You loved him and love the small smiles and such. You finally loom around your destination. A little pond. You walk over and sit at the edge.
Fierce sits next to you and kisses the crown of your head. You look up and are about to ask why but he says somthing first. "I love you." You smile. That's a lovely reason. "I love you too."

hi hello, sorry it's another amputee question, idk if you get tired of these. i found your blog and i like how you share your experiences, thank you for this. im abled myself but im writing a story, and i want my main girlie protag to have a prosthetic leg and here's the thing, i dont really have a reason for it. i guess it says something about me, don't know what, but i just don't know if that's considered, well, offensive, or rude, or something. i don't plan to have any focus on it in the story. the medium is a comic so it's going to be always visible as a prosthetic, but i don't want to explain it in-story either, no backstory, she would probably just have it since early childhood. it won't affect the plot. and that's where i don't know if that's even okay. it feels weird to want that, to include that, almost as if i need to somehow turn the story about it, to have some kind of statement. which i don't actually want to make or even feel able to make as never experiencing it. i want for her to have a prosthetic leg just because. and i don't have anyone to ask this, and i don't mean to offend you by this, and i apologize if i somehow did. but if it's okay with you to answer, i'd appreciate reading. if it's gonna be an angry rant i'd like to read it too. i know you're an upper body amp, but idk, i feel like this question isn't much about the use of prosthetics and more of the general amputee characters, and im scared to ask reddit, i don't even know if that ask made sense. thank you if you read that all, please don't feel pressured to answer. hopefully you'll have something good that brightens your day a little!

so, i've gotten a lot of asks/dms/notes from writers asking about how to write their amputee characters/ocs after my big "writing advice" post, and i think i've ended up ignoring every single one of them, because… well, not to be rude to all those people, but they seem to have completely bounced off the whole 'know why you are writing this' thesis, too caught up in the excitement of their own fantasy to even notice the bit about understanding your own intent as an author and why that matters, let alone really engaging with it. and at that point, i don't think there's any advice or feedback i can give that would break through, especially when it seems what most people are seeking is little details and nuances to add authenticity to their token representation characters or unintentional stereotypes.
but, without any other details or nuances that shape a character's portrayal, based solely on what you've said in this ask, i feel like you're on the right track and probably gonna do fine. the thing that sticks out most clearly to me is how you phrase it, "i WANT to write a protagonist to have a prosthetic leg", you are acknowleding your role as omnipotent author, and i honestly think that's worth a lot more than many people realise when it comes to crafting fiction. you've acknowledged your desire for this character to be a certain way, and you're being introspective about the source of those desires and how it will come across - and that means you're almost certainly also thinking about how it interacts with the rest of the story, how it serves your themes, and how it will be interpreted and understood by the audience.
a lot of responses or people asking me for advice say things like "i am writing a character who HAS an amputation", implying it's an observable fact, pre-concluded before their authoring of them, and therefore something they're much less likely to examine critically. maybe it's unfair of me to draw such deep conclusions from shallow choice of language, but firstly, so many people have been far more obvious about it, saying a character "revealed" or "told" them about the amputation, or just straight up talking abot them as independent entities with their own agency, as if it's a biography and not fiction. and secondly, what are we even doing talking about improving the craft of our writing and how it will be recieved by the audience if we're not going to think about how framing affects interpretation? if someone is reaching out to me asking for writing advice, you bet i am going to assume this is a person who wants to improve the details of their own writing craft, and i'm going to critically engage with the tiny snippet of writing they've given me and analyse how it reflects on them, even if it is "just" a tumblr interaction. i don't even consider myself a writer really, the art i mainly dedicate myself to is music, but i still put careful thought into anything i write that's more than a few sentences, and think about the audience it will be seen by.
sorry, that's a whole other tangent… not at all about what you asked. but by way of example and segue back; what i see you reveal in the writing of your ask is a nervousness and anxiety to 'do well' in your writing, to create a character with an amputation in a way that holds up to scrutiny and criticism, and also a fear of what unfortunate things you might be saying and the responses it would provoke if you misstep. i can totally understand that, not just because you messaged me and i personally have a track record of going off on people lol, but also… yeah, people are very eager to judge and attack art based on a hidden metric of how 'well' it does 'representation' or handles things, and be vocal about the failings of things that make an earnest attempt. and i can see that it's very appealing to want to pull back and hide from that; a character who has a prosthetic leg opens you up to your audience critiquing how well you've handled it, most of them not amputees, many of them with the subtlety and media analysis skills of a sledgehammer… while if you write a story with no amputees in it, nobody has anything to critique.
unfortunately, no matter how well or carefully or authentically you write, there will always be someone engaging with it in bad faith yelling loudly about how awful you are; i recently made a short sharp post giving a trigger warning for medical abuse and body horror in the new zelda game that painfully evoked some of my own experiences, i still got people reblogging it telling me i'm ableist for saying disability is body horror (piss on the poor reading comprehension) and should apologise to all amputees (waves my one hand and nub around in a comical hello gesture). maybe that is on me for writing it quickly in an upset huff instead of making at least two proofreading and editing passes and oh geez, this is getting waaay too long and off topic. okay, to the point.
honestly, from what little you've told me, to be overly reductive, i'd give it a stamp of approval. sometimes people just only have one leg and that's fine, people are born like that, it's a thing that happens - and it doesn't need to shape the entirety of their lives, and reflecting that in fiction is more than just fine, i think it's what we need. sure any amputee character i write is going to be an overt commentary on ableism and medical abuse, because that's what i live, that's what affects me. but i know because i've watched their stuff on youtube, that there are so many people out there that were born limb different that just, don't care about it, and it doesn't really affect their life at all. if your protag has a prosthesis, sure she's had to get fitted for it and train for it, and it might benefit you to do an afternoon of research into that if you want to see how it might holistically flesh out her worldview (look up osseointegration vs external sockets, if you want keywords to help, look for patient experiences instead of doctors).
but also, if her other leg has finished growing and she's got a prosthesis that works, she may not have thought about it literally for years, maybe decades depending on her age. i had braces as a teen and it has zero impact on my life, i've had foot and back problems in the past, and it's irrelevant to me now other than getting new off the shelf shoe inserts every few years. i can think of at least one (australian) celebrity with a pretty long and successful comedy career who most people don't even know was born without one foot, it's just not relevant.
sometimes people just have things going on in the background that don't matter, and sometimes characters should have something just going on in the background too, no matter what "save the cat" sort of writing advice tells you. sometimes cutting literally everything out of a story unless it serves the plot or themes is bad actually, and i guarantee you, even as a hand amputee, i would absolutely LOVE to see a leg amp character who is just having a life, doing other plot relevant things. especially much more than i want to see all the characters of people leaving tags saying some version of "thanks OP, now i can write the suffering and torment of my oc much more authentically". think of the hypothetical little girl born without a leg that just wants to see someone like her.
and finally. what i think is maybe at the core of your anxiousness, at least to my read of your ask. you've thought about your role as author and self reflected about why you want to write a character with a prosthetic leg, and you can't find an answer in you, and you're not sure if that means it's something bad. well, assuming good faith from you, i think that's fine too. people who fetishise prostheses or amputations, people obsessed with the suffering or (percieved) depenedncy, or whatever else it is that makes them yearn to write their hacky awful robot arm characters; they probably don't do the introspection, and if they did, they'd find their answer right away (horniness or power fantasy usually), although i doubt they'd be honest with themselves about it, let alone others. assuming good faith and honesty, if you can't find in yourself WHY you want to write this character with a prosthetic leg….. it's probably just a harmless aesthetic preference.
if you wanted it to do cool things or make her more powerful or more special than others or be endless inconvenience and suffering or make her the chosen one because of it or something, that'd set off alarm bells for me yeah, and i'd be reading into it as a much more harmful aesthetic choice, and responding much more aggressively. but if you want to write a story about other things that features a protagonist who just so happens to have a plausibly normal boring prosthetic leg…. that seems fine to me, honestly. i tend towards having characters with certain hair and eye colour combinations that i find aesthetically pleasing, and as long as i'm thinking about how that could come across and trying to avoid any pitfalls around fetishisation and nastier implications, i think it's probably fine.
there are really only three concrete pieces of advice i would give you:
one, when you've got a cohesive first/beta draft, try to find at least one sensitivity reader who's got as similar disability experience as possible to your character (lower limb, same kinda circumstances, same general use of prosthesis), and listen to their feedback.
two, while i totally acknowledge that leg protheses can be super useful everyday kit for many people, i still have a general aversion to "this character NEEDS a prosthesis or they're helpless" readings, and many people don't want to or can't use leg prostheses… if it were me doing it, i'd make acknowledgement of that, and in a visual medium like a comic, i think that's as simple as having a single panel showing your character waking up in bed without the prosthesis, and maybe at her home there are forearm crutches leaning against the wall as background decoration. maybe if you have any scenes where she's woken up in the middle of the night, or interrupted before being fully dressed for the day, you could show them in use. but that's a personal value suggestion from me, your judgement or sensitivity readers might disagree on the importance of that.
three, you will absolutely need to establish as early and overtly as possible that the prosthesis and amputation DOES NOT MATTER to the story or her character arc. people still very much have a default normative body in mind when engaging with fiction, and anything that deviates from that will 100% be interpreted as a checkov's gun that they will be anticipating and theorising about going off, unless you squash that down. if you want to make a statement about it not mattering, unfortunately i think you're going to have to spell that out as obviously as possible without breaking the fourth wall, or else the audience trained on existing robot limb tropes will be waiting for the traumatic tragic backstory or secret rocket booster to become relevant.
but also…. i'm just some bitch on the internet, talking like i'm more important than i am, getting loudly angry about limb difference when i'm a pretty recent and unusual addition to the group myself. so like, don't take anything i say as absolute, and while it's always good to listen to others, at the end of the day you still gotta synthesise all their thoughts into your own.
i don't really have a nice concluding statement other than to say, thankyou for appreciating my post, and most importantly, thankyou for caring about the craft of writing enough to critically analyse your own authorship, and being curious about how to improve on a sensitive topic.

im on this side probably because i was born into circumstances that made me be. maybe my parents gave me values or put me in enviroments that made me develop like this. maybe the people who were and are nice to u in life were from a different side than the ones who were and are nice to me so we went our own ways... i cant talk well about this without u telling me what type of sides u and i r on. i am assuming ur question to have a tone of longing for getting to other sides of stuff. maybe not but if it is there it gives me a chance for babbling about stuff ive been thinking about so im going to do that now. - imo if u want to switch sides on anything really fast, u could try hitting rock bottom and then everything tends to let itself get rearranged pretty easily. i think this works for so much stuff, like changing behavioural patterns or political paths or religion like my aunt that became a taoist after my grandpa died. when ur comfortable theres no pressure for change, but when u r thrust into thunderstorm and whatever u had before doesnt seem to work enough to help u there, its much easier to acclimate to new ideas. recently ive babbled to a couple people about ego towers which is also about this. as a self defense mechanism i think every person needs to be able to dismiss some ideas that are stupid and not give them the time of day. i think its beautiful to be able to do that, give everything that ultimate attention and consider if its right or not, but also its exhausting and u cant expect it from everyone at all times. so u build urself a castle of ideas of whats right and what isnt and u construct a tower at the entrance from which u can look down at the drawbridge where knights sent by other castles are flaunting their feathers of their ornate helms at u. but thru infinite confirmation bias, bubble world economy planet, etcetera, ur ego tower can reach heights where ure too high up to see stuff and all the flaunting knights look like ants and then PAH thats dirt to u! waooow . its good to have a tower of some kind though- i just dont think u should raise it to a height where ants is real. good example for this is hardcore qanon truthers after waves of falsely predicted waves of dates when biden will be turned into wine or similarly religions promising exact dates for doomsday or anyone who was ever said the phrase "paper hands". what im saying is you need to give ur qanon grandparents lsd so they experience eagledeath and get reborn as liberal hippies. sorry, my uncle john lennon came in and typed that. thats the extreme way the fast way but also the dangerous way cuz when its dark and u lost ur lamp and u see a saving glow to hurry towards, u wont be able to pay as much attention to its source due well youre trying to get out of here as fast as possible. and then ur like thos damn stupid fishes getting eaten by a angler fish. fuuuckkkk... the slow way the safe way the tedious and boring way is the only other way i know about. treading down the tower slowly 10000 steps down the staircase. it helps when people people from different towers are nice to u. grandma warming up to the weirdos when one helps her. a weirdo warming up to grandmas when one is very receptive to help. that can lower tower height a bit on both fronts. but dont who ur friends with guide ur morals let ur morals guide your friendships probably. do it slow & do it nice, see u anon
