Wait is there like a book delivery guy who has to fight off wolves to get all these English books to castle Dracula or does Dracula have like a deal with the wolves to not eat the postman
This is incredibly interesting to me!! What Dracula describes here, how he sees humanity, is the exact opposite of what Jonathan has experienced so far - the strangers who feared for him, took risks for him, cared for him
"Count Dracula was for some reason checking out Train schedules. I am glad to know Mina is going to have a Train Schedule Friend" - Jonathan Harker. May 7th.
I know we have been making fun of May 7th where Dracula apologizes for his poor English, but it's never really hit me that he claims to have only ever seen it written on paper, because how the fuck did he learn the pronunciation then? English has a notorious mismatch between how words are written and how they are pronounced, so what is happening here? Is he lying to Jonathan about never having heard it? Is he just grossly mispronouncing words and is Jonathan too British to comment? Something else entirely?
I think it's incredibly satisfying to read about Dracula losing his composure and panicking when he notices the sun's about to rise and knows he could be burned to a crisp any second, practically running out of the room like the loser he is
